- 0:00SPEAKER_00: What?
- 0:01SPEAKER_00: Hello, Christians.
- 0:02SPEAKER_00: This is Dallas Beecham, and I've got good news.
- 0:08SPEAKER_00: Yesterday we left Jerusalem with a sound from heaven filling the house where Jesus' followers were gathered.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: They had waited, they had prayed, and when the day of Pentecost fully came, they were all filled with the Holy Ghost and began to speak with other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: But what God did inside that house could not remain hidden.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: Jerusalem was filled with devout Jews from many nations.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: They had come for the feast of Pentecost from places with unfamiliar names.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: Parthia, Methamatia, Cappadocia, Egypt, Libya, Rome, Crete, and Arabia, different lands, different customs, different languages.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: Then they heard it.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: The sound brought them together, and when the crowd gathered, every man heard the believers speaking in his own language.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: These Galileans had not traveled the world to learn all those tongues, yet the visitors heard them declaring the wonderful works of God.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: The people looked at one another in amazement.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: Acts tells us they were confounded.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: They could hear the words, but they could not explain the sign.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: Then the question moved through the crowd, What meaneth this?
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: Some honestly wanted an answer.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: Others laughed and mocked.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: They said the disciples were drunk.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: When people cannot explain what God is doing, they may dismiss it instead of examining it.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: But Peter stepped forward.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: This was the same Peter who had denied knowing Jesus.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: The same Peter who had once trembled before a small servant girl.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: Now he stood there before the multitude.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: Something had changed.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: He was no longer hiding.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: He had received the power Jesus had promised him.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: Peter lifted his voice and said, Ye men of Judea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you and hearken to my words.
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: He told them their accusations were wrong.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: It was only the third hour of the day, about nine o'clock in the morning.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: Then Peter, recalling the scriptures, declared, This is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel long before the morning.
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: God had promised, I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh.
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: Sons and daughters would prophesy.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: Young men would see visions.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: Old men would dream dreams.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: God would pour out his spirit upon his servants and his handmaidens.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: Pentecost was not an accident.
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: It was not uncontrolled emotion.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: It was not a private experience invited by the disciples.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: Peter said, This is that.
- 3:18SPEAKER_00: What the crowd saw and heard was the fulfillment of the word of God.
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: And Joel's prophecy carried another promise.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: Whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
- 3:32SPEAKER_00: That word, whosoever, reaches beyond the people standing in Jerusalem.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: It reaches beyond one nation, one family, and one generation.
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: It reaches the person who feels forgotten.
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: It reaches the person who has failed.
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: It reaches the person who is searching for an answer.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: But Peter's sermon was not finished.
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: After explaining what they were seeing, he turned their attention to the one they needed to see, Jesus of Nazareth.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: Tomorrow, Peter will remind the crowd of Jesus' miracles, his death, and his resurrection.
- 4:13SPEAKER_00: And before the sermon ends, the people who ask, What meaneth this?
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: will ask a far more personal question.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: I hope the message today touched your heart and causes you to have a good day.
