- 0:26Speaker 1: question for the New Orleans Saints this week. How do
- 0:31Speaker 1: you bounce back? Do you bounce back? Do you get
- 0:34Speaker 1: up off the mat? You get your head kicked in
- 0:38Speaker 1: on Monday night football, primetime game with the world watching,
- 0:43Speaker 1: 20-year anniversary of Dome coming. I don't need to go
- 0:48Speaker 1: through the whole thing again. I've already spoken my piece.
- 0:51Speaker 1: I'll just get worked up and blow a gasket again.
- 0:55Speaker 1: But this is one of those. This is one of
- 0:58Speaker 1: those where you look and say, okay, How much pride
- 1:03Speaker 1: do you have? You are a professional football team. Everyone
- 1:07Speaker 1: is getting paid. You have to go earn your paycheck,
- 1:12Speaker 1: earn your money this week. Do you get up off
- 1:17Speaker 1: the mat after that humiliation? And oh, by the way,
- 1:23Speaker 1: it's a short week. You play on Monday. Now you
- 1:25Speaker 1: got to go to Sunday. Wednesday, which is normally a
- 1:28Speaker 1: practice day, is just a walkthrough day. So this isn't
- 1:31Speaker 1: even a real practice day. So the injury report we're
- 1:33Speaker 1: about to go through is a simulated injury report had
- 1:38Speaker 1: they practiced. You get one less day of preparation for
- 1:41Speaker 1: this game. Massive, massive moment. And you've got the Vikings
- 1:47Speaker 1: coming in who are 4-0 and through four weeks... I'm
- 1:55Speaker 1: not sure if you know this. There's 32 teams in
- 1:58Speaker 1: the NFL. They are first out of 32 in scoring defense.
- 2:05Speaker 1: The Minnesota Vikings allow the fewest points through four weeks
- 2:08Speaker 1: of any team in the NFL. That's pretty good. Now,
- 2:18Speaker 1: they're also dead last in passing offense.
- 2:23Speaker 2: So.
- 2:27Speaker 1: In fairness, Kyler Murray was concussed a minute into the
- 2:30Speaker 1: first game of the season. And if you want a
- 2:34Speaker 1: remedy for an awful pass offense, just look at the
- 2:37Speaker 1: Saints' pass defense. That would stand to reason, right? Or
- 2:41Speaker 1: you can look and say, this is your opportunity to
- 2:44Speaker 1: get up. Let's run through the injury report real quick. Again,
- 2:48Speaker 1: this was a simulate. The Vikings have not yet released
- 2:52Speaker 1: their injury report, although Kevin O'Connell did go through it,
- 2:54Speaker 1: so we'll let you hear that here in just a
- 2:55Speaker 1: quick second. But here's the Saints injury report, and it
- 2:59Speaker 1: is a lengthy one, here on the opening day of
- 3:03Speaker 1: work for the Saints-Vikings week. And this is, again, a
- 3:06Speaker 1: simulated injury report because there was no practice. Because normally
- 3:11Speaker 1: Tuesday's the day off and you practice Wednesday. Well, they
- 3:14Speaker 1: played on Monday, and so yesterday was a treatment day,
- 3:17Speaker 1: and today they're off. Okay, five players were DNPs. Barry
- 3:22Speaker 1: and Brown with the thigh injury did not practice. Caden Ellis,
- 3:27Speaker 1: a DNP with the calf. He obviously did not play
- 3:29Speaker 1: this past week. Anferty Jennings, who missed last week, was
- 3:32Speaker 1: a DNP. Alvin Kamara, a DNP with the back injury.
- 3:36Speaker 1: And then Chris Alave also was a DNP. Now, it's
- 3:42Speaker 1: noted as not injury-related that they were arresting the player. Okay. Okay.
- 3:50Speaker 1: We all saw what happened at the end of Monday
- 3:54Speaker 1: Night Football in the fourth quarter when Harold Perkins put
- 3:58Speaker 1: his helmet on Chris Alave's knee and Alave came up limping.
- 4:05Speaker 1: I don't want to draw conclusions. I don't want to
- 4:07Speaker 1: be presumptive when we're talking about injuries. I also find
- 4:11Speaker 1: it curious that Alave got a helmet on the knee,
- 4:15Speaker 1: limped off, and now is a DNP. You could say
- 4:18Speaker 1: it's a rest day. We don't typically see veteran rest
- 4:23Speaker 1: days for Chris Alave, so I'm a little skeptical on
- 4:26Speaker 1: what that's going to mean. Let's see how he fares
- 4:29Speaker 1: the remainder of the week. It goes without saying, you're
- 4:31Speaker 1: playing the number one scoring defense in the NFL. I
- 4:36Speaker 1: would like to have your number one receiver out there
- 4:39Speaker 1: for this game. And this is, as we mentioned, a
- 4:42Speaker 1: lengthy injury report. Julian Blackman, limited. Noah Fant, limited. He
- 4:48Speaker 1: didn't play, obviously, the abdominal injury. Carl Granderson, good to
- 4:53Speaker 1: see him out there, but limited or would be against simulated.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Mike Reed, limited with the ankle injury. Tyler Shuck, left
- 5:03Speaker 1: hand injury, limited. That's notable, and they were mentioning throughout
- 5:07Speaker 1: the broadcast about Shuck. You saw him flexing his hand,
- 5:11Speaker 1: that he was having an issue with it, and I
- 5:14Speaker 1: guess the one positive is that it's his non-throwing hand.
- 5:16Speaker 1: So in theory, he should be able to play in
- 5:20Speaker 1: practice without that affecting him greatly. Taking a snap would
- 5:23Speaker 1: be a problem, but it's not going to affect his
- 5:25Speaker 1: ability to throw the football. So we'll keep an eye
- 5:28Speaker 1: on that with Tyler Shuck. I was really concerned about
- 5:37Speaker 1: the matchup on Monday Night Football. Talked about it leading
- 5:42Speaker 1: up to that game. B. John Robinson's a problem. The
- 5:45Speaker 1: Saints were down two starters in their defensive front. Pete
- 5:47Speaker 1: Werner was limited. I don't think the Saints' secondary, especially corner,
- 5:50Speaker 1: is good at all. And you had Drake London and
- 5:53Speaker 1: Kyle Pitts and dudes that could get going, and they
- 5:55Speaker 1: really aired it out with Michael Penix. I hated the matchup. Now,
- 5:58Speaker 1: I picked the Saints because I said, I'm just not
- 6:00Speaker 1: picking against the Saints on the anniversary of the Dome
- 6:02Speaker 1: coming when a crowd and an atmosphere can elevate a
- 6:04Speaker 1: team like we saw on Sunday Night Football with Carolina.
- 6:08Speaker 1: And it just blew up in my face, in all
- 6:10Speaker 1: of our faces. This is a game where the matchup
- 6:15Speaker 1: isn't as daunting. Now, the Vikings are right in the
- 6:20Speaker 1: middle of the NFL in rushing offense. They're 16th in
- 6:23Speaker 1: the NFL in rush offense. Aaron Jones, of course, they're
- 6:27Speaker 1: leading rusher. They are dead last in the NFL in
- 6:31Speaker 1: passing offense. Now, we know with Minnesota dealing with Justin
- 6:37Speaker 1: Jefferson is always an unenviable task. But TJ Hawkinson right
- 6:43Speaker 1: now leads them with 22 receptions and 195 yards. Jefferson,
- 6:49Speaker 1: 13 catches, played in three games, 13 catches for 179
- 6:51Speaker 1: and two scores. But you've also got Jordan Addison there
- 6:54Speaker 1: as well. I don't like the personnel matchup at all.
- 6:58Speaker 1: I do wonder about their ability, Minnesota's ability to get
- 7:03Speaker 1: going in the passing game. This past weekend, they played Miami,
- 7:08Speaker 1: who Miami is objectively not a good football team. They
- 7:10Speaker 1: are 0-4. They might very well be the worst team
- 7:13Speaker 1: in the NFL, and the Vikings beat them 15-10. And
- 7:21Speaker 1: the Dolphins are the worst offense in the NFL, and
- 7:24Speaker 1: they're 21st in scoring defense. One of the worst scoring
- 7:28Speaker 1: defensive teams in the NFL held Minnesota to 15 points.
- 7:32Speaker 1: So I just... Minnesota didn't score a touchdown in the ballgame.
- 7:39Speaker 1: They kicked five field goals. So this, in theory, should
- 7:45Speaker 1: be a matchup where defensively you can get back on
- 7:49Speaker 1: track at home. Get healthy, show some pride, step up,
- 7:53Speaker 1: play a great game defensively, limit that team that has
- 7:56Speaker 1: not been good offensively so far, and then let's see
- 7:59Speaker 1: if this Saints offense can find a way to get
- 8:02Speaker 1: going against what has been so far the best scoring
- 8:04Speaker 1: defense in Now, Kevin O'Connell did run through the injury
- 8:08Speaker 1: report for the Minnesota Vikings.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Justin and Brian O'Neal will both practice on a limited
- 8:13Speaker 2: basis today. B.O. just with a little knee soreness, and
- 8:15Speaker 2: Justin's doing well with the ankle. We'll see how he
- 8:17Speaker 2: does the rest of the week. Chuck Demings, Christian Dersaw
- 8:21Speaker 2: will be out, as well as Jordan Addison just has
- 8:24Speaker 2: a little hamstring soreness. Kind of got tugged on one
- 8:26Speaker 2: of TJ's catches late in the game, but, you know,
- 8:30Speaker 2: going to give him another day and hopefully get him
- 8:32Speaker 2: back to some limited work and some work throughout the
- 8:35Speaker 2: rest of the week. But consider it minor if it's
- 8:37Speaker 2: anything at all, so... Everybody else should be accounted for
- 8:40Speaker 2: at practice.
- 8:41Speaker 1: The most notable item is that starting offensive guard Donovan Jackson,
- 8:49Speaker 1: who injured his knee last Sunday against Minnesota, he tore
- 8:52Speaker 1: his meniscus. He's expected to miss the rest of the season.
- 8:56Speaker 1: They placed him on IR. So this is a former
- 8:59Speaker 1: first-round pick. It started all four games this year at
- 9:02Speaker 1: left guard. Made 14 starts a year ago. As a rookie,
- 9:06Speaker 1: he was replaced by Joe Huber in the win over
- 9:08Speaker 1: the Dolphins. So that is one spot where you go, okay,
- 9:14Speaker 1: you catch a little bit of a break right there.
- 9:16Speaker 1: A starting offensive lineman on a team that's already been
- 9:19Speaker 1: struggling offensively out. Hopefully that helps the Saints maybe defend
- 9:25Speaker 1: better against the run. Give yourself a little break in
- 9:28Speaker 1: the passing game as well. So Maybe some of those
- 9:31Speaker 1: circumstantial pieces are coming together for the Saints against Minnesota.
- 9:36Speaker 1: As they start their preparation on a short week for
- 9:38Speaker 1: the Vikings, they try to bounce back and avoid losing
- 9:40Speaker 1: three straight home games during this home stand.
