- 0:38Speaker 2: as the Huskers come off a bye week. Dak, what's
- 0:41Speaker 2: your Halloween costume for this year?
- 0:45Speaker 3: That'll be actually a surprise. I do have one.
- 0:48Speaker 4: Are you wearing it to the football game?
- 0:51Speaker 3: No, I'm taking it off before I go to the game.
- 0:53Speaker 3: But I do have a costume. It's a surprise. I'm
- 0:56Speaker 3: not going to give it out yet.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Let me guess. Jason Tatum.
- 1:01Speaker 5: Nope.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Shocker.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Nope.
- 1:04Speaker 4: It is not.
- 1:07Speaker 6: By the way, I don't want to say it, but anyway,
- 1:09Speaker 6: he ain't a buzzer beater, but all right, let's dive
- 1:11Speaker 6: into Washington.
- 1:13Speaker 4: Are you going to wear a costume to the Game Hunter?
- 1:15Speaker 7: No.
- 1:16Speaker 5: No?
- 1:19Speaker 2: I don't have a costume that's black.
- 1:23Speaker 4: Fair enough. Is the blackout more important than costumes?
- 1:27Speaker 1: No.
- 1:27Speaker 2: A thousand percent.
- 1:29Speaker 5: No.
- 1:31Speaker 4: Probably agree.
- 1:33Speaker 5: The uh the field looks sick i'm sure you guys
- 1:36Speaker 5: saw the they finally did it they did what we've
- 1:40Speaker 5: been wanting and painted it black baby gave us the
- 1:44Speaker 5: skull and crossbones.
- 1:46Speaker 6: Oh yeah no it's it's gonna be awesome when i
- 1:48Speaker 6: see him i i'm pumped for it i do need
- 1:52Speaker 6: to find a black husker shirt i don't know where
- 1:54Speaker 6: i put mine but it's somewhere around.
- 1:56Speaker 2: Here is the full field painted black like that.
- 2:00Speaker 4: No, just the end zones. Just the end zone and
- 2:03Speaker 4: just the.
- 2:04Speaker 2: I want a game that eventually, maybe we will in
- 2:07Speaker 2: the future, where everything is black.
- 2:10Speaker 4: Oh gosh.
- 2:11Speaker 2: Every possible thing you can find to paint is black.
- 2:16Speaker 2: And maybe whatever you leave for a little bit of
- 2:18Speaker 2: red at the end somewhere, but that'd be sweet.
- 2:23Speaker 4: That would be sick. But then you could wear, well,
- 2:26Speaker 4: you could wear black uniforms. Oh, yeah.
- 2:29Speaker 2: Everywhere.
- 2:30Speaker 6: I thought seeing the video that they did paint it
- 2:32Speaker 6: all black, but then, no, it's just the end zones.
- 2:34Speaker 4: Yeah. What a buzzkill.
- 2:39Speaker 5: No, it looks sick. But the end zones look better
- 2:41Speaker 5: than they do for regular. I hate our regular season
- 2:45Speaker 5: end zones. I think it still looks like we play
- 2:47Speaker 5: for Rutgers.
- 2:51Speaker 2: Well, let's dive into Washington. With the blackout. They are
- 2:58Speaker 2: also coming off a bye week as well. And.
- 3:03Speaker 6: I.
- 3:05Speaker 2: Guess you could say their season has not gone the
- 3:09Speaker 2: way that a lot of people thought. They opened with
- 3:13Speaker 2: three wins. Barely escaping Utah State, if you remember that
- 3:18Speaker 2: early game. That was weird.
- 3:22Speaker 4: And then.
- 3:23Speaker 2: They lost three conference games before beating Purdue on the road.
- 3:27Speaker 2: So they come in here at four and three. I
- 3:35Speaker 2: don't know. Like, what's your overall read on this Washington
- 3:40Speaker 2: team under Jed Fish in, I guess, yeah, his first year.
- 3:45Speaker 5: I mean, preseason they were ranked. But, you know, you
- 3:52Speaker 5: look at, Minnesota is shaking out. I was actually thinking
- 3:55Speaker 5: about this before we came on. It's just how weird
- 3:57Speaker 5: the Big Ten season has gone. You know, Wisconsin drank.
- 4:01Speaker 5: Is USC any good?
- 4:02Speaker 4: I don't know. But they lost to USC. They got
- 4:05Speaker 4: killed by Iowa.
- 4:05Speaker 5: That's the only part where I'm like, if your defense
- 4:08Speaker 5: gives up 41 points to Iowa, I know we thought
- 4:12Speaker 5: Iowa's offense was going to be a little different this year,
- 4:14Speaker 5: but that's a rough look. Minnesota is actually pretty good
- 4:18Speaker 5: this year. So losing by three to Minnesota is not
- 4:21Speaker 5: that crazy. If you don't lose by three to Minnesota,
- 4:27Speaker 5: don't lose by four to USC in one of those games.
- 4:30Speaker 4: They're probably still ranked. Maybe five and two.
- 4:34Speaker 5: Wisconsin's five and two with a.
- 4:38Speaker 4: Win over a ranked opponent.
- 4:42Speaker 5: I don't know what my real full read of them is,
- 4:45Speaker 5: but I don't think it's as bad as people think
- 4:47Speaker 5: it is.
- 4:49Speaker 4: I think.
- 4:52Speaker 6: I thought I'm really surprised by it because in the
- 4:55Speaker 6: preseason pod, I said Washington's going to be super good.
- 4:58Speaker 4: I thought they were good, too.
- 4:59Speaker 6: Yeah, their O-line and D-line are supposed to be the
- 5:01Speaker 6: best in the Big Ten. And their quarterback, I was
- 5:03Speaker 6: very high on, too. Like you said, it's not been
- 5:08Speaker 6: a horrible season so far. It's just that Iowa game,
- 5:10Speaker 6: they got absolutely slaughtered in. Yeah, I thought for sure
- 5:15Speaker 6: we'd be playing a ranked team in this one, but
- 5:18Speaker 6: we're not. And this one where You kind of got
- 5:22Speaker 6: to take care of business in this one. I think
- 5:25Speaker 6: they're going to have a backup quarterback in this game, should,
- 5:29Speaker 6: which bodes well for us because I do think their
- 5:32Speaker 6: quarterback is actually still very good.
- 5:34Speaker 3: Scary quarterback if he does end up playing.
- 5:38Speaker 2: Yeah, and early on, I guess the word with Washington
- 5:42Speaker 2: was they're hit with the injury bug, and that continued here.
- 5:48Speaker 2: So I think the question is, You know, what Dak
- 5:54Speaker 2: just said, can we take care of business? Because I
- 5:57Speaker 2: think coming into the year, this was maybe a coin
- 5:59Speaker 2: flip game. We have the advantage. We're at home. Halloween night,
- 6:02Speaker 2: we were hoping we were going to get a blackout
- 6:06Speaker 2: and then hoping we were going to get the night game. Well,
- 6:07Speaker 2: guess what? Both of those boxes get checked. So, I mean,
- 6:12Speaker 2: it's a big game. I don't want to call every
- 6:16Speaker 2: game the game of the year because, I mean, it
- 6:18Speaker 2: kind of is, but. I don't know. I think this
- 6:23Speaker 2: game is going to dictate a lot for the rest
- 6:26Speaker 2: of the year.
- 6:27Speaker 5: Yeah, you look at the rest of the games on
- 6:29Speaker 5: the schedule, this is one of the ones that if
- 6:32Speaker 5: you want to have a good year, you need to
- 6:33Speaker 5: win this.
- 6:35Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 6:36Speaker 6: No, if we lose this, I think it's like a
- 6:38Speaker 6: roller coaster. We are in straight down after this. This
- 6:42Speaker 6: would be a terrible loss if we lose this one.
- 6:45Speaker 6: Especially because, let's.
- 6:49Speaker 3: See, then we go.
- 6:50Speaker 6: Illinois on the road looking tougher too now. They don't
- 6:53Speaker 6: play Rutgers and they don't have to stay out. So
- 6:55Speaker 6: this one you got to get to keep the hope
- 6:58Speaker 6: still alive in it. And I think the fan base
- 7:03Speaker 6: will really start to flip on rule this game here
- 7:06Speaker 6: if we lose this one.
- 7:09Speaker 2: So yeah, Washington, Jed Fish, head coach, and a very
- 7:15Speaker 2: offensive mind himself running the West Coast traditional West Coast style,
- 7:19Speaker 2: and you mentioned the quarterbacks. You got DeMond Williams working
- 7:23Speaker 2: back from that rib injury that he took. And then
- 7:27Speaker 2: the backup quarterback, Brown, he's got some, you know, some
- 7:32Speaker 2: snaps recently, and those two have been splitting some reps.
- 7:36Speaker 2: I haven't seen the updated availability report on what to do,
- 7:41Speaker 2: but I think we, you know, should expect both. And
- 7:46Speaker 2: I think, I mean, both of them, but they have
- 7:49Speaker 2: some differences as well. The whole West Coast system, I guess,
- 7:54Speaker 2: is designed, as we know from Bill Callahan, to stretch
- 8:00Speaker 2: the field a little bit, and it's a little more dynamic,
- 8:06Speaker 2: and especially with DeMond Williams, you've got some legs to
- 8:10Speaker 2: be considering in the run game.
- 8:14Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 8:15Speaker 2: They also are very balanced with pass and run, too.
- 8:18Speaker 2: You're going to see some run the ball, some play
- 8:21Speaker 2: action stuff as well. It's one of those things that
- 8:27Speaker 2: I wouldn't say anything they do is great and phenomenal,
- 8:31Speaker 2: but they're capable of doing everything pretty well, which some
- 8:38Speaker 2: people would say that makes offenses tougher to go against.
- 8:43Speaker 5: Yeah, they're definitely a pass heavy team the rushing game
- 8:47Speaker 5: has not worked out super well for them this year
- 8:50Speaker 5: for some reason I totally forgot about this until just
- 8:53Speaker 5: right now but when you said DeMond Williams do you
- 8:56Speaker 5: remember the offseason when he like tried to transfer and
- 9:01Speaker 5: then Washington I don't remember did they try to sue
- 9:05Speaker 5: him after signing him to I don't remember exactly what
- 9:07Speaker 5: it was but now it just anyways totally forgot about
- 9:11Speaker 5: that um Yeah, he's listed as questionable for the game,
- 9:18Speaker 5: so I think he's going to play.
- 9:19Speaker 4: He's the better of the two quarterbacks.
- 9:22Speaker 5: Elijah Brown last week had three touchdowns, but he also
- 9:24Speaker 5: had three interceptions against a Purdue defense that hasn't been
- 9:27Speaker 5: very good this year.
- 9:28Speaker 4: So I think that they'll try to avoid playing him
- 9:31Speaker 4: as much as they can.
- 9:32Speaker 5: Yeah, talking West Coast offense, definitely spreads, run it out.
- 9:38Speaker 5: They're not quite as explosive as they were a couple
- 9:41Speaker 5: years ago when they had two NFL games. starting caliber
- 9:44Speaker 5: wide receivers and I guess Michael Penix.
- 9:48Speaker 4: I don't know what he is.
- 9:48Speaker 5: NFL backup caliber knee injury riddled quarterback. But yeah, Desmond Roebuck,
- 9:59Speaker 5: I mean, he's pretty good. I think it's another situation
- 10:03Speaker 5: where we have to watch out for the last couple
- 10:05Speaker 5: of weeks we've been being on explosive plays where we've
- 10:08Speaker 5: held offenses pretty low and then they're capable of having
- 10:11Speaker 5: those 40 yard.
- 10:13Speaker 4: Catches, which I think Washington definitely is.
- 10:15Speaker 5: So I don't think, I know they're not, you don't
- 10:20Speaker 5: think of Washington's offense this year as this killer, but
- 10:24Speaker 5: I think we could have the exact same thing happen
- 10:26Speaker 5: that's happened the last three weeks where their offense hasn't
- 10:28Speaker 5: looked great, but we gave up, like Indiana, we gave
- 10:31Speaker 5: up three plays, and I think Washington's totally capable of that.
- 10:36Speaker 6: Yeah, that's the scary part of Washington is I still
- 10:39Speaker 6: think they're a good team. The record doesn't show it,
- 10:42Speaker 6: which a lot of fans will think, oh, this team
- 10:43Speaker 6: ain't good. No, Washington's still, I think, pretty dang good
- 10:46Speaker 6: football team, so it's going to be it's going to
- 10:49Speaker 6: be a battle. I think four quarters, like come down
- 10:51Speaker 6: in the end, like you said, now will be another
- 10:53Speaker 6: heartbreak or will we actually pull one of these one
- 10:55Speaker 6: score games out? Cause I, I think it will come
- 10:57Speaker 6: down this spread. I've, I've not touched the spread in
- 11:00Speaker 6: the breast here by eight and a half when I
- 11:01Speaker 6: touched that, I think it's going to be anywhere from
- 11:03Speaker 6: three to seven point game.
- 11:04Speaker 3: Like it's, it's going to be tight. Most of the game.
- 11:08Speaker 6: Um, if Williams does play, I think they're going to
- 11:11Speaker 6: put up some points. I, I'd still think he's one
- 11:14Speaker 6: of the better quarterbacks out there. Um, Yeah, they just
- 11:18Speaker 6: don't have as many explosive players on the outside like
- 11:21Speaker 6: they did. Like, coming into the year, we thought they would.
- 11:25Speaker 6: I'm still, yeah, just worried about that offense a little bit.
- 11:29Speaker 6: I think they are a good team still.
- 11:33Speaker 2: Yeah, it's just interesting. Their offense has been so– I mean,
- 11:36Speaker 2: they had such high expectations. And so, definitely, you would
- 11:38Speaker 2: say they've underachieved. You know, Austin mentioned Desmond Roebuck and–
- 11:45Speaker 2: Another guy, Chris Lawson, adds that deep threat. And Rashad Williams. Like,
- 11:51Speaker 2: I think these receivers and these skill players are still
- 11:56Speaker 2: some of the better ones we've played this year. I mean,
- 12:01Speaker 2: definitely better than, like, Maryland and Michigan State, our first
- 12:05Speaker 2: two Big Ten opponents. So, like, there's a component of
- 12:09Speaker 2: being able to contribute or attribute a lot of people
- 12:15Speaker 2: to those players. But I also think you can't just,
- 12:17Speaker 2: you can't just fully sell out on that, on their,
- 12:20Speaker 2: you know, deep passing game because against Purdue, they, they,
- 12:24Speaker 2: they were able to run the ball pretty well. And
- 12:25Speaker 2: then yes, Purdue, Purdue's improved this year too. So like, again, this, this,
- 12:30Speaker 2: this balance piece, it's, it, it raises a question then of,
- 12:33Speaker 2: of what, what strategy or what defensive strategy are we
- 12:37Speaker 2: going to come in with? And, and the other, the
- 12:39Speaker 2: other thing we haven't mentioned yet either is their offensive line. Um,
- 12:44Speaker 2: has allowed quite a few sacks.
- 12:46Speaker 3: And so surprising.
- 12:49Speaker 2: What, what, what, what goes into that is, you know, what,
- 12:51Speaker 2: what's your plan on as far as getting home to
- 12:55Speaker 2: the quarterback, you know, whether it be drawing a blitzes or,
- 12:59Speaker 2: you know, if it is DeMond Williams and having the
- 13:01Speaker 2: ability to scramble, sometimes when you blitz, you're, you're more
- 13:04Speaker 2: vulnerable to giving up quarterback runs too. So I think
- 13:07Speaker 2: all of that, God, it is like, I could see
- 13:10Speaker 2: Washington scoring more, I could see them struggling and them
- 13:14Speaker 2: scoring 10 to 17 points. I also could see them
- 13:18Speaker 2: scoring 35. I hope they don't score 30, but I
- 13:24Speaker 2: think they're capable of doing that, whereas some of the
- 13:26Speaker 2: other teams we've played, I don't know, are. So I
- 13:29Speaker 2: think this is a very high-variance game going in when
- 13:33Speaker 2: Washington has the ball.
- 13:34Speaker 5: I mean, Big Den play, they haven't scored less than 21,
- 13:39Speaker 5: and that's been enough to beat us the last two weeks. Right.
- 13:44Speaker 6: Here's another thing I'm worried about here in this game is, too,
- 13:46Speaker 6: Washington coming out there, like, after this fight and everything,
- 13:50Speaker 6: and their coach is saying, everyone thinks you suck.
- 13:52Speaker 2: And all this.
- 13:52Speaker 6: This being the game where they come out and be like,
- 13:54Speaker 6: all right, let's prove that we're actually this good team here.
- 13:57Speaker 6: And it's going to be the game they just come
- 13:58Speaker 6: out and kick our ass. And then they take off
- 14:00Speaker 6: for the rest of the season and be like, all right,
- 14:02Speaker 6: let's prove how good we actually are. That's one thing
- 14:06Speaker 6: that scares me a little bit about this game. They're
- 14:09Speaker 6: going to– because I heard– I heard during their bye week,
- 14:11Speaker 6: they basically just rebooted and had a brand new fall camp.
- 14:15Speaker 6: Like they just basically said, all right, new season now.
- 14:17Speaker 6: Let's just reboot, do it all over again.
- 14:20Speaker 5: You know, that doesn't scare me. If I hear a
- 14:24Speaker 5: team said, oh, hey, we had a reboot and had
- 14:26Speaker 5: a fall camp during bye week, that tells me, oh boy,
- 14:28Speaker 5: you guys are lost. You know, that's not what, I
- 14:32Speaker 5: wouldn't say that that's something that strikes fear in me.
- 14:35Speaker 5: That's what I want to play. I want to play
- 14:36Speaker 5: the team that needed to reboot halfway through the season.
- 14:41Speaker 2: The scary part of that is it might bring some
- 14:45Speaker 2: unknowns that we're not ready for, but I'm with you.
- 14:48Speaker 2: I'd rather play that than a team that's.
- 14:51Speaker 4: Hey, we're just resting. We've got it. We've got it
- 14:54Speaker 4: figured out.
- 14:56Speaker 2: That's what I always think. It seems like every year
- 15:00Speaker 2: when we have a bye week, the other team has
- 15:01Speaker 2: a bye week as well. It always makes it fascinating
- 15:05Speaker 2: when you have two weeks to prepare and yeah, we
- 15:08Speaker 2: know that there's recruiting in there and everything, but You
- 15:10Speaker 2: do have more time, and so there's a little bit
- 15:14Speaker 2: of that suspense factor as well that you're waiting to see, okay,
- 15:17Speaker 2: what are we going to change? What are we going
- 15:18Speaker 2: to adjust? And you forget the other team is also
- 15:23Speaker 2: in that same boat.
- 15:25Speaker 5: Right.
- 15:25Speaker 2: And you're used to thinking and what you think about
- 15:29Speaker 2: the team, but we'll see. Let's flip to the other
- 15:32Speaker 2: side of the ball here and talk about our offense
- 15:37Speaker 2: and– The conversation here, I guess for me is, is
- 15:44Speaker 2: Washington a team that we are going to be able
- 15:48Speaker 2: to one, I mean, we got to attempt it first,
- 15:52Speaker 2: but identify that we can produce a run game outside
- 15:56Speaker 2: of Calandria, you know, making plays. And I, I, I totally,
- 16:03Speaker 2: I'm not disagreeing with the fact of why we maybe
- 16:05Speaker 2: couldn't run the ball against Oregon and Indiana because if
- 16:09Speaker 2: they're that much better than us up front. And that's
- 16:12Speaker 2: the reason. And we tried it and nope, couldn't do anything.
- 16:15Speaker 2: So scratch that next thing. Try the next thing. I
- 16:19Speaker 2: I'm curious with Washington. Is it going to look more,
- 16:25Speaker 2: is it going to look closer to Oregon, Indiana, or
- 16:27Speaker 2: is it going to look closer to Michigan state and.
- 16:31Speaker 4: Maryland, Maryland?
- 16:34Speaker 5: My gut tells me it's going to look closer to
- 16:35Speaker 5: the last two. They're allowing 131 rushing yards a game,
- 16:40Speaker 5: which isn't... I mean, it's 54th nationally, so they're kind
- 16:44Speaker 5: of middle of the road on their run defense.
- 16:51Speaker 4: And I wouldn't.
- 16:51Speaker 5: Say Dana Holgerson struck confidence in me this week about
- 16:55Speaker 5: our run game when he was addressing it.
- 16:58Speaker 4: Our running backs need to grow up. This needs to
- 17:02Speaker 4: be better. I don't know. It's not really.
- 17:07Speaker 4: People are hurt. Welcome to Big Ten. Just grow up.
- 17:09Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 17:10Speaker 5: This is a striking confidence that this is a thing
- 17:12Speaker 5: we can fix. Oh, okay. I guess that's the solution.
- 17:17Speaker 5: I think we'll have more success than we did the
- 17:26Speaker 5: last two weeks. I don't think it's going to be
- 17:31Speaker 5: like what it was the first three weeks. Do I
- 17:35Speaker 5: think We could get like 130 yards, 150 yards.
- 17:40Speaker 4: Yes, and I think that's better. That's enough. That's enough.
- 17:44Speaker 4: That's what we need.
- 17:47Speaker 6: I mean, I'm getting to the point where I just
- 17:49Speaker 6: don't think we have a good run game at all.
- 17:50Speaker 6: But besides outside of Calandra, we have just struggled so
- 17:55Speaker 6: much the last couple games. There's nothing there at all
- 17:59Speaker 6: with it. Just to get it going just a little
- 18:02Speaker 6: bit will help Calandra so much with that freaking– passing game,
- 18:06Speaker 6: run game, he doesn't need everything on his shoulders. Just
- 18:09Speaker 6: to have a little bit taken off him will help
- 18:11Speaker 6: so much of that offense open up. If we get
- 18:14Speaker 6: five yards here and there, second and fives are amazing,
- 18:17Speaker 6: and we just have not had that lately. Like, we
- 18:20Speaker 6: need to get this run. That's the main focus of
- 18:22Speaker 6: this bye week, I hope. We don't know with Dembo,
- 18:24Speaker 6: our coach, if he worked on that or what he
- 18:27Speaker 6: worked on. But hopefully this bye week.
- 18:30Speaker 3: What did you say, Dembo? Yeah, I don't know if
- 18:33Speaker 3: he knows how to coach at all. I truly don't.
- 18:35Speaker 6: But anyway, I hope that's what they worked on this
- 18:39Speaker 6: bye week. Now we will see if that's– they probably
- 18:41Speaker 6: worked on freaking, I don't know, wide receiver screens, something
- 18:44Speaker 6: like that. But we hope that's what they worked on
- 18:46Speaker 6: this bye week. That's got to be priority number one.
- 18:50Speaker 2: And I still think Calandria's legs are still part of
- 18:52Speaker 2: the run game solution. Like I'm not taking that out.
- 18:55Speaker 3: Yeah, it just doesn't need to be all of it.
- 18:57Speaker 2: Yeah, and I think like design run stuff is like
- 19:01Speaker 2: plant– I think a lot of our run games sometimes
- 19:03Speaker 2: are just Calandria scrambling out and, you know, like, because
- 19:07Speaker 2: that's all that's left. So, I mean, I think we
- 19:11Speaker 2: all can agree that if you can have a run
- 19:14Speaker 2: game established, it opens a lot of stuff up. And, yeah,
- 19:22Speaker 2: you hope to see that early on in this game.
- 19:25Speaker 2: And what will be interesting, I guess, and this is
- 19:29Speaker 2: going to be part of it, you know, the counter–
- 19:31Speaker 2: To the to the run game is how many guys
- 19:33Speaker 2: Washington brings into the box and how much are they
- 19:37Speaker 2: focused on it? Because here's if you think about defending us,
- 19:40Speaker 2: are you concerned about the run game? It hasn't been
- 19:41Speaker 2: good the past two games. So are you are you
- 19:44Speaker 2: still reading into, okay, Nebraska is going to try to
- 19:47Speaker 2: establish the run. I hope we do. And if, and
- 19:50Speaker 2: if they don't, I bet you it looks a lot better,
- 19:54Speaker 2: but if they do, okay, so now, now, now it
- 19:56Speaker 2: goes back to what, what are, what's our strategy out there?
- 19:59Speaker 2: Are we still trying to do it? Are we trying
- 20:01Speaker 2: to take advantage of the numbers and are we going
- 20:03Speaker 2: to stretch it downfield more? Because that's what everybody's wanting
- 20:06Speaker 2: to do this game from, yeah, I don't know. Like
- 20:10Speaker 2: that again, I just think, and you know what? It's
- 20:13Speaker 2: probably a good thing. If we're here questioning, what are
- 20:16Speaker 2: we going to do? It probably makes it kind of
- 20:18Speaker 2: hard to go against. But I do think getting that
- 20:21Speaker 2: run game established is very, very important. And I would
- 20:25Speaker 2: expect us to try to do that. Dana's bluntness on
- 20:31Speaker 2: everything is, I still just love it. Like, why not?
- 20:35Speaker 2: Like say it.
- 20:36Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 20:37Speaker 2: The, the, the, running backs are, yeah. I mean, they're
- 20:40Speaker 2: all banged up. And, um, one of the guys, is it,
- 20:44Speaker 2: I get what Jamal rule said from the second you,
- 20:47Speaker 2: you take the field in the very first game, you're
- 20:48Speaker 2: going to be not a hundred percent until the end
- 20:50Speaker 2: of the year. Like you're always going to have some
- 20:54Speaker 2: sort of banged up thing. So yeah, I guess today
- 20:58Speaker 2: in this point, you grow up, you get, you're going to,
- 21:00Speaker 2: you're just gonna have to do it. But again, running backs,
- 21:02Speaker 2: we've talked about, we've talked about running backs. I, I, I,
- 21:08Speaker 2: I think it's more the offensive line. Yeah. Running backs,
- 21:12Speaker 2: unless you have elite ones, and I don't know that
- 21:15Speaker 2: any of these guys are elite, your offensive line's got
- 21:20Speaker 2: to do their job. And that's the piece that I
- 21:24Speaker 2: do their job, but I just don't know how good
- 21:27Speaker 2: they are.
- 21:27Speaker 5: I mean, the first couple weeks, the holes the offensive
- 21:31Speaker 5: line was creating were huge.
- 21:33Speaker 4: It was like, oh, wow.
- 21:35Speaker 2: Yeah, we were excited.
- 21:36Speaker 4: We were like, yeah, like, wow.
- 21:39Speaker 2: I just don't know that, I don't know, like the
- 21:41Speaker 2: last two games, it was obviously they didn't have success,
- 21:44Speaker 2: but it's like we knew they wouldn't have success because
- 21:48Speaker 2: we didn't really try a lot of it because we
- 21:51Speaker 2: assume they're just not capable of blocking an Oregon and
- 21:55Speaker 2: Indiana front.
- 21:57Speaker 5: Right.
- 21:58Speaker 2: So, I don't know. That to me is more worthy
- 22:03Speaker 2: than the running backs, like the running backs. I just,
- 22:07Speaker 2: I just think that they come with the offense helps
- 22:10Speaker 2: have a better one, but if you have a hole,
- 22:12Speaker 2: you're going to be able to run through it. Yeah.
- 22:16Speaker 6: If they create a hole that semi trucker run through
- 22:18Speaker 6: that as five, 10 yards wide open there, it does
- 22:20Speaker 6: not matter who's back there. Like it's yeah, no, it
- 22:23Speaker 6: comes down to the, and I am, that's something I've actually,
- 22:26Speaker 6: so the D line, I think I've said this a
- 22:28Speaker 6: couple of podcasts, the line I am very impressed with
- 22:31Speaker 6: the old line. I still don't think the old line is,
- 22:34Speaker 6: I think they're mediocre at best. I think Landry is
- 22:39Speaker 6: helping them a lot. I feel like that might be
- 22:44Speaker 6: a bit harsh. I just think Landry's ability to move
- 22:49Speaker 6: is not showing just how bad.
- 22:51Speaker 3: I think.
- 22:53Speaker 4: Their offensive line is... I would not say mediocre at best, though.
- 22:56Speaker 2: Dak, I will say this, and we're not going to know.
- 22:59Speaker 2: That's an opinion, but if Dylan Argyle is sitting back there...
- 23:05Speaker 2: Would the sack numbers be the same as they were
- 23:07Speaker 2: last year? I can't say definitively the answer to that's no.
- 23:13Speaker 2: I do think that's a very big hidden perk of
- 23:17Speaker 2: having a mobile quarterback, and that goes along with pocket
- 23:20Speaker 2: presence as well, not just mobility, that you can hide sacks. Now,
- 23:29Speaker 2: when you talk about the inside run game or outside
- 23:32Speaker 2: run game with the offensive line, not quarterback-related, That's a difference.
- 23:36Speaker 2: That's not hidden there with a quarterback. But, yeah, it does.
- 23:42Speaker 4: It hides a lot of it.
- 23:42Speaker 2: It's hard to tell.
- 23:43Speaker 6: While we're talking about O-line, I do want to give
- 23:46Speaker 6: a shout-out to somebody I saw this yesterday. Justin Evans
- 23:49Speaker 6: has not allotted pressure all season. So I will say,
- 23:52Speaker 6: great player. Hats off to you, buddy.
- 23:53Speaker 3: That guy's great.
- 23:57Speaker 4: Yeah, one of our five guys is great.
- 23:59Speaker 5: I just feel like I don't want us to forget
- 24:02Speaker 5: that our offensive line has looked good against indiana and
- 24:05Speaker 5: oregon who both going to the year had national title
- 24:10Speaker 5: expectations so i mean like there it wasn't like they
- 24:12Speaker 5: were bad against maryland or you know the other teams
- 24:16Speaker 5: they were just bad again and they weren't even like
- 24:18Speaker 5: just weren't good they weren't like it wasn't like noticeably
- 24:21Speaker 5: like oh my gosh our offensive line is getting killed
- 24:23Speaker 5: it was just like i said i think i saw
- 24:26Speaker 5: like the average uh you know rated defensive lineman for
- 24:31Speaker 5: oregon was like 4.5 and nebraska's was three by stars,
- 24:35Speaker 5: not that stars are everything, but it's just, you know,
- 24:37Speaker 5: we were playing like those were elite teams that the
- 24:40Speaker 5: offensive line was not thriving against.
- 24:44Speaker 4: So I think that's important to remember.
- 24:46Speaker 6: That's what I'm saying there about middle of the road,
- 24:47Speaker 6: because if you had big boy back there, they'd look horrible.
- 24:50Speaker 3: I think Lander makes them look a lot better.
- 24:52Speaker 4: So right in the middle there, I think they looked horrible. I, I.
- 24:57Speaker 6: Think Viola makes your offense line look a lot worse
- 24:59Speaker 6: because that dude, you can just swarm that dude and
- 25:02Speaker 6: you get 20 mile on our gust to win.
- 25:03Speaker 3: That dude's falling down.
- 25:04Speaker 4: Like, You keep talking shit on Rayola. Of course. He
- 25:10Speaker 4: did beat us two weeks ago. I don't know if
- 25:13Speaker 4: you remember that.
- 25:14Speaker 6: I feel like that's... The bye week made me forget about...
- 25:18Speaker 6: Speaking of that, whoever scheduled this bye week, this is
- 25:21Speaker 6: one of the best bye weeks of all time because
- 25:23Speaker 6: it took that to get over the Oregon game. If
- 25:25Speaker 6: there was a football game last week, I don't know
- 25:26Speaker 6: if I would have been pumped up for it at all.
- 25:29Speaker 3: I needed a week to get over that Oregon game.
- 25:31Speaker 3: But now I'm back. All right.
- 25:37Speaker 2: My big thing here, and this is going to be
- 25:40Speaker 2: in the back of the mind of every fan in person,
- 25:44Speaker 2: and no matter how the game goes, when that clock, well, first, after,
- 25:50Speaker 2: when the clock hits zero in the third quarter, we
- 25:52Speaker 2: go to our light show. It's going to be nuts.
- 25:56Speaker 2: Everybody's going to enjoy it. It's going to be awesome.
- 25:59Speaker 2: They have a great thing planned, all that. Then the
- 26:01Speaker 2: lights come back on, and the 15 minutes get put
- 26:04Speaker 2: up for the fourth quarter. No matter what the score is,
- 26:09Speaker 2: the question is, can we win a game in the
- 26:11Speaker 2: fourth quarter against a team like this? And yes, we've
- 26:15Speaker 2: done it now against a few different teams, but we
- 26:19Speaker 2: obviously didn't seal the deal against Oregon. We didn't seal
- 26:22Speaker 2: the deal against Indiana. And you can play the what-if
- 26:25Speaker 2: card for both of those games, but man, you would
- 26:29Speaker 2: almost say if we're 7-0 right now, you're in the
- 26:32Speaker 2: top five with the way college football's gone.
- 26:36Speaker 4: We're not.
- 26:37Speaker 2: We're at 5-2. You play the game, that's why you
- 26:41Speaker 2: play the games. Now, Washington comes in, I would say,
- 26:44Speaker 2: the next toughest team on our schedule outside of those
- 26:46Speaker 2: two teams yet. And no matter what the score is,
- 26:50Speaker 2: can we find a way to win this game, whether
- 26:52Speaker 2: we're ahead, down, tied, whatever that is, in the fourth quarter?
- 26:57Speaker 2: And we saw two almost extreme opposites on the defensive
- 27:01Speaker 2: side where Indiana beat us off of a couple of
- 27:05Speaker 2: big plays. Oregon, on their couple of drives, went dink
- 27:10Speaker 2: and dunk, dink and dunk, dink and dunk, scored. So
- 27:14Speaker 2: on the defensive side, what's that going to look like?
- 27:16Speaker 2: On the offensive side, things got stale again in the
- 27:20Speaker 2: fourth quarter, both those games. Whereas Maryland, Michigan State, we
- 27:27Speaker 2: got to the point in the fourth quarter where the
- 27:29Speaker 2: other team was worn out. We wore them down over
- 27:31Speaker 2: the course of the game. And then the fourth quarter came,
- 27:34Speaker 2: we put together two beautiful drives. to basically seal the
- 27:39Speaker 2: game and not even make it a one possession game.
- 27:40Speaker 2: So again, two very extremes of what has happened. Where's
- 27:45Speaker 2: this Washington game going to fall?
- 27:50Speaker 4: I think it's going to be close to the performers.
- 27:52Speaker 5: I think talent-wise, we match up better with Washington than
- 27:55Speaker 5: we do against Indiana and Oregon.
- 27:57Speaker 4: So physically, I think we're going to be able to
- 27:59Speaker 4: last a little bit longer. Yeah, I think I just
- 28:07Speaker 4: think physically we're going to do pretty well.
- 28:09Speaker 5: I think talent-wise we match up, especially like offensively, I
- 28:15Speaker 5: think we match up better with their defense than we
- 28:17Speaker 5: did against some of the other teams. I think Washington
- 28:22Speaker 5: struggled with turnovers this year. I think that favors us.
- 28:28Speaker 5: Washington's been bad in the red zone. That favors an
- 28:31Speaker 5: offense that's struggling. I don't know.
- 28:34Speaker 4: I feel all right with.
- 28:36Speaker 5: How we match up across the board, and what we
- 28:40Speaker 5: saw the last two weeks from us versus what we've
- 28:42Speaker 5: seen the last couple weeks from Washington.
- 28:44Speaker 6: I just don't see the game being blown off unless
- 28:47Speaker 6: Washington's completely given up on the season. So it's going
- 28:50Speaker 6: to be a close game, I think, for most of
- 28:53Speaker 6: this game. And for the love of God, can we
- 28:55Speaker 6: do this from once? When one of these close games against,
- 28:59Speaker 6: I still think Washington's a good team, win this for once.
- 29:03Speaker 3: Find a way to do it. I don't know what
- 29:04Speaker 3: the recipe is.
- 29:05Speaker 6: By the way, when you were talking about the third quarter,
- 29:09Speaker 6: I thought you were seriously going to say, are the
- 29:11Speaker 6: players going to be dancing or not? That's where I
- 29:14Speaker 6: thought you were going to go with that.
- 29:19Speaker 3: That's another thing. Will the players be dancing when the
- 29:21Speaker 3: Thunderstruck comes on? I hope not.
- 29:24Speaker 6: But, find a way, I don't know what it is,
- 29:28Speaker 6: find a way to win one of these close games.
- 29:30Speaker 3: And you know what?
- 29:33Speaker 6: I don't think I don't think uh william's gonna be
- 29:37Speaker 6: moving that much this game send the blitz at him
- 29:39Speaker 6: as much possible like with this.
- 29:40Speaker 3: Injury that he has i don't think gonna be out
- 29:42Speaker 3: there letting him run around the ball that much so i.
- 29:44Speaker 6: Don't think in the and the guy at the do
- 29:46Speaker 6: the backup and he doesn't run either blitz these quarterbacks
- 29:49Speaker 6: hit him early hit him often find a way to
- 29:52Speaker 6: get in their heads and hold this team to freaking
- 29:55Speaker 6: 20 or less points.
- 29:57Speaker 2: That's Like, we were talking, you know, a long time
- 29:59Speaker 2: about the defense and Washington offense, and you just had, like,
- 30:02Speaker 2: a light bulb go off of, like, this is how
- 30:04Speaker 2: we're going to beat them, so I got to throw
- 30:06Speaker 2: this in here.
- 30:08Speaker 3: It was turning and finally came through.
- 30:10Speaker 2: Yeah, and the thing that we haven't mentioned, I think
- 30:15Speaker 2: that should help a lot in the fourth quarter, Halloween night, blackout.
- 30:18Speaker 2: I mean, I think the crowd should be a very
- 30:21Speaker 2: big impact there, assuming the game is close and everybody's engaged.
- 30:24Speaker 2: You know, the worry is that is everybody, like, back
- 30:27Speaker 2: of their mind going don't do this again don't do
- 30:29Speaker 2: this again um I don't know I guess this is
- 30:35Speaker 2: a this is a funny part of that is I'm
- 30:37Speaker 2: like used to blowing games in the fourth quarter so
- 30:39Speaker 2: like I don't get as hurt that much again like
- 30:42Speaker 2: anymore like I just like it's frustrating it's frustrating but
- 30:47Speaker 2: I'm just like well we did it again like yeah
- 30:49Speaker 2: I've never I've never too excited to win until the
- 30:52Speaker 2: clock actually hit zero no and and we win a
- 30:55Speaker 2: game in the fourth quarter.
- 30:57Speaker 4: So I don't know.
- 30:58Speaker 5: I guess another thing just to factor in is it
- 31:03Speaker 5: is a seven o'clock game.
- 31:04Speaker 4: Washington is two hours behind us traditionally.
- 31:06Speaker 5: So by the end, by the time we get to
- 31:07Speaker 5: the fourth quarter, it's probably going to be realistically feel
- 31:09Speaker 5: like after midnight for their players. I know it's not,
- 31:13Speaker 5: you know, like, Oh, they're college kids, but I do
- 31:14Speaker 5: think that does kind of mess with your, your internal
- 31:18Speaker 5: messy with playing that opposite.
- 31:21Speaker 3: Yeah, no, it'll feel like eight o'clock for them.
- 31:23Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 31:24Speaker 4: Oh yeah. You're right. You're right. It is opposite.
- 31:26Speaker 3: They'll be, Not that part.
- 31:30Speaker 4: No, I'm just kidding.
- 31:31Speaker 2: You had me thinking.
- 31:32Speaker 3: About the map there for a second. I was like,
- 31:34Speaker 3: wait a second.
- 31:35Speaker 2: We are going to do score predictions here this week.
- 31:39Speaker 2: So you guys got something in mind?
- 31:44Speaker 4: I'm going to go 27 to 27-20 Nebraska.
- 32:02Speaker 6: I've got 31-27 Nebraska. I think it's going to come
- 32:06Speaker 6: down the fourth quarter. Last three minutes, I think it'll
- 32:10Speaker 6: be super tight there, and I think we're going to
- 32:12Speaker 6: pull one score game out finally.
- 32:14Speaker 2: I love the under. I think our defense is pretty
- 32:19Speaker 2: damn good, especially coming off a bye week for both teams.
- 32:23Speaker 2: I know our offensive coaches might not like to hear
- 32:25Speaker 2: the score, but I'm going to go 17-13 Nebraska.
- 32:32Speaker 7: Wow.
- 32:34Speaker 2: Oh, boy.
- 32:35Speaker 3: Wow.
- 32:36Speaker 4: If we.
- 32:39Speaker 5: Score 13 points this game, I'll have serious concerns about
- 32:42Speaker 5: our offense.
- 32:44Speaker 4: 17.
- 32:44Speaker 5: 17. 17.
- 32:44Speaker 4: Oh, sorry. I still have serious concerns. Still, yeah.
- 32:47Speaker 3: No, 17 is not enough for me to be like.
- 32:48Speaker 2: I think we're Iowa, guys, and I love it. I
- 32:50Speaker 2: think we're Iowa without understanding quite yet how to win
- 32:54Speaker 2: close games, but we're getting there. I think we're Iowa.
- 32:57Speaker 2: I think we're slowly making progress towards that. I think
- 33:00Speaker 2: our defense is getting better with that. And, yeah, low scoring.
- 33:06Speaker 2: And it's the Big Ten. I just think you look
- 33:08Speaker 2: at these Big Ten scores. Unless Purdue's involved, it's low scoring.
- 33:14Speaker 4: Or Iowa against Washington.
- 33:17Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 33:20Speaker 6: I got two things to say before we head out here.
- 33:22Speaker 6: Where has Vincent D'Antoni been?
- 33:23Speaker 3: Is he out for the year?
- 33:25Speaker 4: He is out for the year.
- 33:26Speaker 2: Do your research. Yes.
- 33:28Speaker 4: Okay.
- 33:29Speaker 3: Well, he's out for the year.
- 33:31Speaker 6: Anyway, that's, I was wondering, I was like, all right, where's,
- 33:33Speaker 6: where the hell's this guy been?
- 33:35Speaker 4: That's where I am. That's where running games sucked. Well, I,
- 33:38Speaker 4: I was actually like running back.
- 33:40Speaker 6: This guy needs to second off. All right, Hunter, take
- 33:43Speaker 6: your hat off real quick. Can't be welcome announced on
- 33:49Speaker 6: Monday that he's going to retire. So we're all going
- 33:52Speaker 6: to take our hats off and say, great career. You,
- 33:54Speaker 6: we are going to miss you. No idea who's going
- 33:56Speaker 6: to be after you, but no one can do what
- 33:59Speaker 6: you did. I don't know what he did 30 years,
- 34:01Speaker 6: but hats off to you.
- 34:01Speaker 5: There you go. Ken Pavelka and Ernie Johnson.
- 34:06Speaker 4: All-time great.
- 34:06Speaker 3: Oh, yeah, Ernie Johnson. Yep, take your hat off again.
- 34:09Speaker 3: Ernie Johnson.
- 34:12Speaker 6: Ernie Johnson retiring. No, have you guys heard anything about
- 34:19Speaker 6: who's after Pavelka?
- 34:21Speaker 4: He just announced it, so they'll do it.
- 34:23Speaker 2: It's going to take some time, bud.
- 34:25Speaker 4: Yeah. I'll do a shirt. It's like the different cow crooks,
- 34:29Speaker 4: which I like cow crooks.
- 34:31Speaker 5: He's not as good.
- 34:33Speaker 4: It doesn't quite have the same feel, but he's good.
- 34:37Speaker 2: You're not, you're not going to get the same feel
- 34:38Speaker 2: for a while. I, it just, it's one of a kind.
- 34:41Speaker 2: It's just, he, he's done it for so long, you know,
- 34:45Speaker 2: football and basketball. It just, he's just a, it's a legend.
- 34:49Speaker 2: It's a legend.
- 34:50Speaker 6: Yeah. I, I sure thought he was just going to
- 34:51Speaker 6: croak on the mic and do it until he died.
- 34:53Speaker 3: But, But, nope, Collin quits.
- 34:57Speaker 4: A little early. He should have gone last year on
- 34:59Speaker 4: the high.
