Transcript
- 0:00SPEAKER_00: They were funny and clever.
- 0:03SPEAKER_00: They stood up for what they believed was right.
- 0:05SPEAKER_00: Harry Potter, HBO trailer, can the magic work again?
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: Hey everyone, it's Gilbert K here.
- 0:11SPEAKER_00: Welcome back to my channel.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: HBO has released its most detailed trailer yet for Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Tone.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: We see Hogwarts, The Sorting Hat, Quidditch, The Mirror of Eyes, Invisibility Cloak, A Mountain Troll, and many other moments fans know very well.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: The series premieres on HBO and HBO Max on December 25th, 2026.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: Yes, Christmas Day, because HBO apparently wants the entire family fighting over the remote before dessert.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: But the biggest question is not whether the series will be popular.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: Come on, it's Harry Potter.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: You could release eight hours of Hagrid reading the Hogwarts lunch menu and people would watch.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: The real question is this can HBO actually make us fall in love with Harry Potter all over again?
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: Because this is not like remaking an old movie that people barely remember.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: The original Harry Potter films are still everywhere.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: People rewatch them every Christmas, they visit the theme parks, they buy the wands, the robes, and the mugs.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: Some fans probably know the Hogwarts floor or plan better than the layout of their own house.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: So HBO is not replacing a forgotten version.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: It's walking directly into one of the most love film franchises ever made and saying, thank you very much.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: We'll take it from here.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: No pressure.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: The trailer knows exactly what we want.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: The trailer is full of familiar images.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: We see Harry arriving at Hogwarts.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: We see the Great Hall.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: We meet Ron and Hermione.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: We see Snape, Dumbledore, Hagrid, and McDonnell.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: We get boomsticks, floating candles, and enough school robes to keep the dry cleaning business alive for another decade.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: Dominic McLaughlin plays Harry.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: Alice Star Stout plays Ron and Arabella Stanton plays Hermione.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: John Lithgow steps into the enormous robes of Dumbledore.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: Nick Frost plays Hagrid, Jenning McTear is Professor McDonald, and Papa Esuidu takes on the very difficult role of Severus Snake.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: And let us be clear, these actors are not only playing famous characters, they are following performances that have lived in people's minds for more than 20 years.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: When John Lithko appears as Dumbledore, viewers are not seeing him alone.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: Somewhere in the back of their minds, Richard Harris and Michael Gamin are sitting there with scorecards.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: When Papai Shew walks in as Snake, the shadow of Alan Rickman enters the room with him.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: And when Nick Frost appears as Haggard, millions of people will immediately remember Robbie Coltrane.
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: That doesn't mean the new actors cannot succeed, it means they need to make these characters their own.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: If they try to copy the previous performances, the series may feel like the word's most expensive school play, the trailer's biggest strength.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: For me, the most promising thing about this trailer is that it feels interested in Harry as a child.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: Before The Magic, Harry is a lonely boy who has never had a real home.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: Hogwarts matters because it's the first place where he feels that he belongs.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: The spells are fun, the broomsticks are exciting, but the heart of the story is a boy discovering friendship, family, and his own value.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: If HBO understands that, the series could work.
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: The Darsley scenes are important because we need to understand Harry's life before Hogwarts.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: If we rush through that part just to reach the castle, then Hogwarts becomes a beautiful building.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: If we feel how unwanted Harry was, the castle becomes his home.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: This is the difference between showing us magic and making us feel in it.
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: More time could change everything.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: The biggest advantage HBO has is time.
- 3:47SPEAKER_00: The first Philosopher's Stone movie ran for a little over two and a half hours.
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: This new season reportedly has eight episodes.
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: That gives the writers much more room to explore the book, the characters, and the smaller moments the films have to cut.
- 4:01SPEAKER_00: We could spend more time with Harry, Ron, and Hermione before they become the famous trio.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: Their friendship does not need to happen because the script says, okay, you're our best friends now.
- 4:13SPEAKER_00: We can watch them annoy each other, misunderstand each other, and slowly become a family.
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: We can see more classes, more Hogwarts secrets, more of Neville, more of the ghosts, more of the teachers, and maybe we can finally understand how these students complete any homework when something tries to kill them every school year.
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: Imagine being a parent at Hogwarts.
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: How was school?
- 4:35SPEAKER_00: Good.
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: We learned a new spell, played Kidditch, and almost died again.
- 4:40SPEAKER_00: Wonderful.
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: Don't forget your homework.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: TV can also give the mystery more room to breathe.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: The story of the Philosopher's Stone can unfold piece by piece instead of racing from one major event to the next.
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: This is the best argument for making this series.
- 4:54SPEAKER_00: Not bigger visual effects, not a newer hogwarts, not another set of toys.
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: More story, but nostalgia can become a trap.
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: The trailer looks polished and expensive, but several shots are so familiar that they create a strange feeling.
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: It's exciting, but it also makes you ask, haven't I already seen this?
- 5:13SPEAKER_00: That reaction has been appearing online.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: Some fans are excited about a more detailed version of the books.
- 5:19SPEAKER_00: Others feel the series looks too similar to the movies and question why the entire story needs to be made again.
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: This is the dangerous part.
- 5:27SPEAKER_00: Nostalgia can bring people through the door, but it cannot carry on in eight-episode season.
- 5:33SPEAKER_00: HBO can show us the train, the castle, and the sorting hat in every trailer, but eventually the series needs its own identity.
- 5:41SPEAKER_00: I do not want the new Harry to become Daniel Radcliffe 2.0.
- 5:45SPEAKER_00: And I don't want the new Hermione to copy Emma Watson's expressions.
- 5:50SPEAKER_00: And I certainly do not want somebody telling the new Ron, could you please look more like Rupert Grant?
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: Let these young actors breathe, let them find new humor, new emotions, and new relationships inside these characters.
- 6:02SPEAKER_00: If HBO gives us the same scenes, the same look, and the same feelings, then why would we not simply watch the films again?
- 6:10SPEAKER_00: The enormous expectations.
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: The first teasers reportedly earned 277 million organic views across platforms in only 48 hours, making it the biggest trailer launched in HBO and HBO Max history.
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: The number shows how powerful this franchise remains, but it also shows how closely people will be watching.
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: Every costume will be compared, every performance will be judged, every missing book scene will produce a 14-minute angry video from someone standing in front of a shelf full of wands.
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: That's the deal HBO made when it shows Harry Potter.
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: The audience is guaranteed, but so is the pressure.
- 6:47SPEAKER_00: The series is being led by showrunner Francesca Gardner, with succession director Mark Milloy directing.
- 6:54SPEAKER_00: David Heyman, who produced the original movies, is also involved.
- 6:58SPEAKER_00: That combination gives me hope because there's both a new creative team and someone who understands the history of this world.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: Season 2, based on Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, is already being developed.
- 7:10SPEAKER_00: HBO clearly is not treating this like a small experiment.
- 7:13SPEAKER_00: It's preparing for the long journey before the first year students have even unpacked their bags.
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: My Gilbert K take.
- 7:20SPEAKER_00: So can HBO make us fall in love with Harry Potter all over again?
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: Based on this trailer, I think it has a chance, but only if it understands that love can't be recreated by copying old memories.
- 7:31SPEAKER_00: The trailer gives us everything we expect.
- 7:34SPEAKER_00: Hogwarts look grand, the creatures look convincing, Quiddish look exciting, the new cast is interesting, and the longer format could finally bring more of the books to the screen.
- 7:44SPEAKER_00: But the series must give us something in movies didn't.
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: More character, more heart, more room to the friendship to grow, and most importantly, a new season to care.
- 7:54SPEAKER_00: The original movies introduced the entire generation to Harry Potter.
- 7:57SPEAKER_00: The HBO series now has a much harder job.
- 8:00SPEAKER_00: It must satisfy those fans while welcoming children who may be meeting Harry, Ron, and Hermione for the first time.
- 8:07SPEAKER_00: That's like trying to make one Christmas dinner for grandparents, parents, teenagers, and children.
- 8:13SPEAKER_00: And every person has already memorized the old recipe.
- 8:16SPEAKER_00: I'm interested, I'm hopeful, but I'm not under the spell yet.
- 8:19SPEAKER_00: The trailer has opened the door to Hogwarts.
- 8:22SPEAKER_00: Now the series must prove there's a new adventure waiting on the other side.
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: What do you think?
- 8:27SPEAKER_00: Did this trailer bring back the magic for you, or does HBO series still feel like a remake we do not need?
- 8:33SPEAKER_00: Let me know in the comments below.
- 8:35SPEAKER_00: And if the sorting had placed you in charge of HBO, what is the one thing you would change from the original movies?
