- 1:50Speaker 1: this shirt.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Are they always wearing the shirt? You're wondering why we're

- 3:04Speaker 2: I don't know how to respond to when people say, oh,
- 3:06Speaker 2: you're handsome, I'm like, okay.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Yes, this man, this man on the podcast with me
- 3:12Speaker 1: is a beautiful person. And I'm not just saying that
- 3:15Speaker 1: because he's my best friend, because he is. He's a beautiful, stunning,
- 3:19Speaker 1: amazing person. And he's Pooky.
- 3:23Speaker 2: Oh shut up, Pooky.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Yes, do I have a boyfriend? Yes, well I still
- 3:28Speaker 1: called Jacob Pooky. Yes on site.
- 3:32Speaker 2: Am I very uncomfortable by it? Yes, yes I am.
- 3:35Speaker 1: You'll deal with it. You don't see me going up
- 3:38Speaker 1: to you pinching your cheeks?
- 3:42Speaker 2: You try?
- 3:43Speaker 1: No, I don't. I try to boop, I boop all
- 3:46Speaker 1: the time. Boop boop. Because you're a werewolf. A woo.
- 3:53Speaker 1: You're a werewolf on Sundays.
- 3:56Speaker 2: On Sundays.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Yes, well not anymore because you're mad. Spoiler alert, major
- 4:03Speaker 1: spoiler alert. You will not know that for another year.
- 4:06Speaker 3: Yeah, you like Brah the spoiler alert. The spoiler you leave,
- 4:12Speaker 3: you leave that good you leave my good boy out
- 4:15Speaker 3: of this.
- 4:15Speaker 1: Okay, that's a spoiler alert. So getting into today's episode,
- 4:20Speaker 1: we're I'm continuing on the journey of manga. So today
- 4:24Speaker 1: we're gonna be getting into a starting of a series
- 4:27Speaker 1: or a one one shot manga in a series of
- 4:31Speaker 1: different manga and also novels. We're gonna be getting into
- 4:35Speaker 1: the Ring and the Ring you're like the Ring like
- 4:39Speaker 1: Samara now Baby Stutcle the Japanese the Ring because the
- 4:45Speaker 1: Ring has a bunch of novels as well as manga.
- 4:48Speaker 1: And eventually we are going to do the novels because
- 4:50Speaker 1: I have all of them except for one because one
- 4:54Speaker 1: has not been released in the States unfortunately, and I
- 4:57Speaker 1: have pretty much all the manga but one as well,
- 5:01Speaker 1: but I want to talk about all of them, so
- 5:03Speaker 1: this is gonna be more spread spread out. So we're
- 5:06Speaker 1: gonna do I'm gonna do the probably two one shots
- 5:09Speaker 1: between this week and next week, and then I'm sure
- 5:11Speaker 1: Real Time has not come back, and then after that
- 5:13Speaker 1: will go into the main series of manga from the
- 5:16Speaker 1: nineties of manga, and then from there eventually we'll we'll
- 5:20Speaker 1: talk about the novels because let me tell you, the
- 5:23Speaker 1: novels and what you think the Ring is are two
- 5:25Speaker 1: different things. Because the novel is insane. So I've already
- 5:30Speaker 1: read the first one by the time of this recording,
- 5:31Speaker 1: and I'm like partially through the second one, and shit's
- 5:35Speaker 1: just crazy. So getting into this book, it's called Sadako
- 5:40Speaker 1: at the End of the World. It's super supervised by
- 5:44Speaker 1: Koji Suzuki, which is the original author, and the character
- 5:50Speaker 1: provisions are done by Coda Kawa and the author and
- 5:56Speaker 1: artist is Koma Natsumi. Now, this story, this story is
- 6:07Speaker 1: the most heartwarming and heartbreaking thing I've read in a
- 6:12Speaker 1: long time. I was like, Oh, this is so adorable
- 6:16Speaker 1: and yet so fucking sad. So these two kids decide
- 6:21Speaker 1: to watch a videotape and Samara comes out of the TV.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Not Samora, Oh God, Soda go, Soda Go Sodago and
- 6:30Speaker 1: tomorrow two different people, y'all. Samara as a child. That's
- 6:34Speaker 1: that's from the Curse tape. In the American version of Well,
- 6:37Speaker 1: Sotaca is a full grown woman those of you who
- 6:40Speaker 1: don't know. So they watched a videotape for the first
- 6:44Speaker 1: they watched a videotape for the first time, and Sodaca
- 6:46Speaker 1: comes out of the TV and they find out that
- 6:55Speaker 1: Sodaco finds out that these two people the last people
- 7:00Speaker 1: on Earth. She comes out of a TV during the
- 7:05Speaker 1: middle of apocalypse. Not everyone's alive, it's just these two
- 7:09Speaker 1: kids living in a house by themselves. Children, literal children,
- 7:14Speaker 1: and she's like, oh, She's like and of course there's
- 7:20Speaker 1: so they had no idea about the curse tape at all.
- 7:21Speaker 1: They're like, oh, wow, a person and they're like, oh,
- 7:24Speaker 1: will you come join us? We hang out with us
- 7:26Speaker 1: and play with us, and she's like, I can only
- 7:27Speaker 1: be here for seven days, and that's when the sat
- 7:32Speaker 1: it's like it's heartwarming and cute, and that's when the
- 7:34Speaker 1: sadness hits me, like, oh shit, she's gonna kill them
- 7:38Speaker 1: in seven days, isn't she. I don't like where this
- 7:42Speaker 1: is going. So Sadako hangs out with them literally, she
- 7:48Speaker 1: plays games with them. She kind of just keeps them
- 7:50Speaker 1: company because they're by themselves in a world that's just
- 7:54Speaker 1: destroyed and decrepted and there's no one else around. So
- 7:57Speaker 1: they decide to go on an adventure together to try
- 8:00Speaker 1: I find other people. And it's them just literally traveling
- 8:04Speaker 1: to like the next town over and whatnot between the
- 8:07Speaker 1: in these in those seven days. So when they start traveling,
- 8:12Speaker 1: they make a vow. He's like, cool, we're gonna pack
- 8:15Speaker 1: up our ship and we're gonna leave in the morning.
- 8:17Speaker 1: We're gonna go on a venture and fine, try to
- 8:18Speaker 1: find other people to see if we're really alone in
- 8:21Speaker 1: this world. And it's just these two kids, so happy
- 8:24Speaker 1: to finally have somebody with them because it's just been them.
- 8:27Speaker 1: These kids are like I would say maybe six and
- 8:31Speaker 1: like three, like literal children. It's so sad and they're
- 8:37Speaker 1: trying to make it on their own because there's no
- 8:39Speaker 1: one else around because everyone's dead, and I'm like, this
- 8:42Speaker 1: is sad. And side of co was just chilling with them.
- 8:45Speaker 1: She's just like on the bad, like what am I doing?
- 8:50Speaker 1: She has she's and she has like inner monologue kind
- 8:53Speaker 1: of and she's like, I might have to kill these
- 8:55Speaker 1: guys in seven days, she's like, and then she agrees
- 8:59Speaker 1: to go with them. She's like, oh, maybe will meet
- 9:02Speaker 1: other people that I can kill. And then it gets
- 9:09Speaker 1: just real sad. So they go on a journey and
- 9:13Speaker 1: they go to the next town over and they find
- 9:15Speaker 1: a hairdresser. They find this guy who lives who works
- 9:21Speaker 1: and lives in a hair salon, and he decides to
- 9:26Speaker 1: take these three girls in obviously, and he does, and
- 9:28Speaker 1: he does their hair, gives them a haircut, makes them
- 9:31Speaker 1: look real pretty, and he even gives a haircut a
- 9:35Speaker 1: Sodaco goes like, please don't cut off on my hair
- 9:38Speaker 1: because she has like a little so she can't talk,
- 9:40Speaker 1: so she has like a little board that she writes
- 9:43Speaker 1: in like marker, like a dry race marker, and what
- 9:46Speaker 1: she says and stuff, and she's like, don't take everything off, please,
- 9:49Speaker 1: and she so he basically cuts off all her split
- 9:53Speaker 1: ends the very tips of her hair, and she blows
- 9:56Speaker 1: and he hair dries her hair and washes it and shit,
- 9:59Speaker 1: and she he looks gorgeous. He makes her hair look stunning.
- 10:06Speaker 2: And they.
- 10:10Speaker 1: They try to ask him to you grady, convince him
- 10:12Speaker 1: to come with them, but he's like, nah, I'll stay back.
- 10:17Speaker 1: And then what's real fucked what's real fucked up is
- 10:20Speaker 1: that they all leave, right, and then we come back
- 10:23Speaker 1: to him and Soda Cooka walks back in, and he thinks,
- 10:31Speaker 1: she's let me see if I can get the line,
- 10:34Speaker 1: because you can kind of tell where this is going.
- 10:38Speaker 1: So Sodako walks back in and because they mentioned a video,
- 10:45Speaker 1: and they're like, hmm, because they mentioned because they mentioned
- 10:47Speaker 1: that this video that Sodaka came out of, and he's like,
- 10:50Speaker 1: I remember our customer talking about something like that. That's
- 10:53Speaker 1: probably nothing. And then when they leave, she comes back
- 10:56Speaker 1: to his own a video. Huh oh, Suta go you
- 10:59Speaker 1: for got something, and it says, you got a great
- 11:03Speaker 1: head of hair, so be sure to brush it every day.
- 11:06Speaker 1: Let me touch it and give you and get and
- 11:09Speaker 1: give me work to do. And she basically kills them
- 11:13Speaker 1: like he kind of just accepts it. He's like, you
- 11:17Speaker 1: gave me one last job to do, and that's all
- 11:20Speaker 1: he wanted. He missed doing someone's hair. You gave me
- 11:23Speaker 1: one last job to do. And he basically accepted his death.
- 11:27Speaker 1: And I'm like, that is wholesome and depressing, and what's worse.
- 11:34Speaker 1: The next person they see is an old lady, a granny.
- 11:40Speaker 1: So they come across his grandmother who lives in the house,
- 11:43Speaker 1: and they stay with her for a while and it
- 11:45Speaker 1: turns out she used to be an actress and they're like,
- 11:48Speaker 1: oh my god, an actress. What's an actress? And she's like,
- 11:51Speaker 1: y know, and someone who someone who performs. So they
- 11:54Speaker 1: started to put on a play Hansel and Gretel, and
- 11:57Speaker 1: the granny plays the old witch. And again it's so
- 12:02Speaker 1: wholesome because she takes care of him, she gets in
- 12:04Speaker 1: place to stay. They do this whole play because she's
- 12:06Speaker 1: always wanted to perform again. And at the end of it,
- 12:11Speaker 1: when they leave. She is reminiscing about her daughter who
- 12:19Speaker 1: lives in next town over, and she has no idea,
- 12:21Speaker 1: and she's like, she hasn't come by in a while,
- 12:24Speaker 1: so she presumes that she's probably dead, that she didn't
- 12:28Speaker 1: that she has not made it for whatever's happening in
- 12:30Speaker 1: this world. And she's holding the picture and Sandeko comes
- 12:34Speaker 1: in after they leave, let me find it, and she's
- 12:40Speaker 1: holding the picture and she's like, thank you for the
- 12:45Speaker 1: final performance. Be good to those girls now. And then
- 12:49Speaker 1: you see a shot of her in bed holding the
- 12:50Speaker 1: picture of her daughter and she died. She died nursely
- 12:55Speaker 1: and I'm just like, oh, I'm like, this is sad.
- 12:59Speaker 1: This is so sad. They're fulfilling people's dreams and then
- 13:04Speaker 1: putting him the rest. I'm like, this is the most
- 13:06Speaker 1: this is the pressing. And I'm like, oh my god,
- 13:10Speaker 1: in the most cutest way, this is the pressing. So
- 13:13Speaker 1: after this, they come to the seven days, or they
- 13:19Speaker 1: get very close to seven days, they find a well,
- 13:22Speaker 1: right this is like the sixth day. They find the
- 13:24Speaker 1: well and they're like, oh, Sun, the is this your well?
- 13:27Speaker 1: And she's like, no, it's not. But they find out
- 13:30Speaker 1: that there's another curse. In this well, there's a ghost
- 13:34Speaker 1: and the ghost was put in there because she broke
- 13:37Speaker 1: a plate in her life. So they give her basically,
- 13:40Speaker 1: they give her a plate. They're like, here from a
- 13:43Speaker 1: plate you lost, and she's like, oh, they free the ghost.
- 13:48Speaker 1: They free the curse. So the ghost is the spirit's
- 13:50Speaker 1: finally free to move on, finally because somebody's generosity. And
- 13:54Speaker 1: she comes back and she tells him, Hey, because you
- 13:57Speaker 1: helped me, I'm gonna help you. You stay with that girl,
- 14:02Speaker 1: death awaits you. And by this point you kind of
- 14:06Speaker 1: realize that the oldest child already knew that that she
- 14:13Speaker 1: was gone, that they were both gonna die. And in
- 14:17Speaker 1: this story, Sodako is kind of not the curse death lingering,
- 14:24Speaker 1: waiting to take its next victim peacefully or whatever. And
- 14:29Speaker 1: I was like, oh, I see where this story is
- 14:30Speaker 1: kind of going, Like this is sad So she they sleep,
- 14:35Speaker 1: they sleep together again, and they tell Sadako that she
- 14:41Speaker 1: Basically they tell us Adako that they enjoyed the seven
- 14:44Speaker 1: days that she had that they had with them and
- 14:47Speaker 1: if only make it over to her well, if all
- 14:49Speaker 1: I go to Sodika's well and Sodako talks about how
- 14:54Speaker 1: she was in this well and there are seven days
- 14:57Speaker 1: or seven days are up, she has to leave, and
- 15:00Speaker 1: they realize that they're about to go, and they thank
- 15:05Speaker 1: her for giving the time that she had with them
- 15:10Speaker 1: and they're like, I love you. And then Soko says, hey,
- 15:17Speaker 1: one week together, I can record it in there. We
- 15:20Speaker 1: can be that we could be together forever, and she's like,
- 15:25Speaker 1: is that even possible. I'll try my best. So indicating
- 15:28Speaker 1: with that is Sodaco is going to try to alter
- 15:33Speaker 1: her tape The Curse to include those two in it
- 15:38Speaker 1: so they can be in her video with her and
- 15:41Speaker 1: the Curse tape forever. And then we jump to those
- 15:47Speaker 1: two as they're in bed dead died in their sleep,
- 15:55Speaker 1: and I'm like, I'm like, oh my god, this is
- 15:59Speaker 1: the most thing ever. I'm like, this is so wholesome
- 16:04Speaker 1: and so fucking depressing. I'm like, this is so sad.
- 16:07Speaker 1: Is it so sad? They're just children, but they got
- 16:12Speaker 1: to go in their sleep. And then Sana CoA shows
- 16:14Speaker 1: up and she's like, what, there's still people here and
- 16:17Speaker 1: then she turns to the viewer says, oh, there you are,
- 16:20Speaker 1: and there's like a scene of her coming out of
- 16:22Speaker 1: the panel like she's coming out of the page. It's
- 16:24Speaker 1: kind of cool. But yeah, that's Sonica at the end
- 16:30Speaker 1: of the world. Two kids spend seven days with her
- 16:33Speaker 1: because they're alone and in a dying world as they
- 16:38Speaker 1: meet other people and they die too. I mean, you
- 16:42Speaker 1: can use Sonaco as a metaphor for the apocalypse. So
- 16:46Speaker 1: it's just it's so sad. It is depressing, y'all. It's
- 16:54Speaker 1: so sad. Now, this episode might not be thirty minutes old. Well,
- 16:59Speaker 1: we can get out to but this book is a
- 17:03Speaker 1: one is a one off out know, if it's really considered,
- 17:06Speaker 1: it might be a considered canon. But let's see. So
- 17:16Speaker 1: that is the book. So at the end of the world,
- 17:19Speaker 1: and you may be wondering, oh my god, if there
- 17:20Speaker 1: are more books or more manga to the Ring series.
- 17:23Speaker 1: Oh my god, please your focus.
- 17:31Speaker 2: Come on, not the side eyes to your webcam.
- 17:39Speaker 1: Oh there we go, there we go focused again. Thank you.
- 17:42Speaker 1: I'm pretty I'm not blurry. Yes, there are more books
- 17:47Speaker 1: and manga in the Ring series. So we actually got
- 17:49Speaker 1: a timeline and where the Ring franchise began.
- 17:54Speaker 2: Okay, so we have.
- 17:56Speaker 1: Everything started back in nineteen ninety one with the Ring
- 18:00Speaker 1: the very first book nineteen ninety five you have the
- 18:03Speaker 1: sequel novel called Spiral, and then nineteen ninety five you
- 18:08Speaker 1: have the first TV the first film adaptation, which is
- 18:11Speaker 1: a TV movie. And let me tell you, the TV
- 18:14Speaker 1: movie is more accurate to the book than the actual
- 18:16Speaker 1: first movie, because the first movie is not really that
- 18:20Speaker 1: accurate to the book. They joke some creative liberties in
- 18:22Speaker 1: the movie. I mean, for God's sakes, not really a spoiler,
- 18:27Speaker 1: but kind of see what you're getting into when you
- 18:30Speaker 1: watched the original TV aptation of the movie of the book.
- 18:34Speaker 1: There's a woman in there that I call her the
- 18:37Speaker 1: Yesification of Stak, the Yasification, because she's there at the
- 18:42Speaker 1: very end with her tits out, the Asian woman, completely topless, nude,
- 18:49Speaker 1: completely nude in every way, shape and form, because I mean,
- 18:51Speaker 1: she's kind of like that in the book too, but
- 18:53Speaker 1: like big t's out and I'm like, damn, I'm like yes,
- 18:58Speaker 1: So I call it the Yestification of Sodaco. I will
- 19:02Speaker 1: send you a link, Jacob, so you can watch this buffoonery.
- 19:05Speaker 1: Because when we talk about the novels, we're gonna I'm
- 19:07Speaker 1: gonna watch the movies. I'm not but che, but I'm
- 19:09Speaker 1: gonna watch the movies, the Japanese ones again as well
- 19:11Speaker 1: as the American ones, which I all have.
- 19:13Speaker 2: We should we should have a movie night to do that,
- 19:15Speaker 2: because I haven't seen the original Japanese movies. I don't
- 19:18Speaker 2: think I've ever actually watched the original the American movies
- 19:21Speaker 2: of the Ring.
- 19:23Speaker 1: There's three of them. We have all of them in
- 19:26Speaker 1: this house.
- 19:26Speaker 2: Yes, I did watch them move a long time ago.
- 19:29Speaker 2: I barely remember him.
- 19:30Speaker 1: Because, uh, so you got The Ring, the Ring two,
- 19:34Speaker 1: and then Rings. That's the American ones and the Japanese ones,
- 19:38Speaker 1: the ones that have been released in the States. Anyway,
- 19:40Speaker 1: you have Ring Ou Ring U to Spiral because the
- 19:46Speaker 1: Ring Wo. That's where the films get a little weird,
- 19:50Speaker 1: because the films don't really follow the books, except for
- 19:55Speaker 1: the second one kind follows the book more. Because so
- 20:00Speaker 1: you got the Ring and then Ring two and then Spiral.
- 20:03Speaker 1: Ring two in Spiral will kind of release at the
- 20:05Speaker 1: same time. No scratch that the first Ring in Spiral
- 20:09Speaker 1: will released at the same time. Spiral is a sequel
- 20:12Speaker 1: to The Ring. It did not do that well in
- 20:14Speaker 1: the box office, so they decided to go back change
- 20:16Speaker 1: the sequel and make the Ring two. Because Spiral is
- 20:19Speaker 1: something completely different, and it made The Ring two. And
- 20:22Speaker 1: then from there that's where you got the Korean version,
- 20:26Speaker 1: the Ring Virus, and you kind of learn obviously when
- 20:29Speaker 1: we get to the books, you'll learn the origin of
- 20:31Speaker 1: the virus and all that fun stuff. Then you got
- 20:35Speaker 1: the Ring. The first Ring manga was released in nineteen
- 20:39Speaker 1: ninety nine for the Ring Rings Volume one and two.
- 20:42Speaker 1: And then you got the Ring to manga which was
- 20:44Speaker 1: released nineteen n eighty nine, the Spiral manga which is
- 20:47Speaker 1: released nineteen ninety nine, and then you got the video
- 20:50Speaker 1: games Ring zero Birthday, which is another film that's also
- 20:56Speaker 1: kind of a prequel, and at the Ring the American version.
- 21:01Speaker 1: In two thousand and two, they S, which is another
- 21:04Speaker 1: novel in the series. Of course, Loop also came out
- 21:08Speaker 1: somewhere in there. Do they not talk about Loop? They
- 21:12Speaker 1: don't talk about Loop. It's weird. It's Loop not considered
- 21:15Speaker 1: to Ring novel. That's weird. Now I'm concerned. I guess
- 21:26Speaker 1: I'll get to it when we guessually get to that book.
- 21:29Speaker 1: But yeah, S novel got released in twenty twelve, and
- 21:32Speaker 1: then the last one, Tied, got released in twenty thirteen,
- 21:36Speaker 1: which is the final of the series. But there's another
- 21:39Speaker 1: book called Loop that's also another it is Loop was
- 21:41Speaker 1: released in nineteen ninety eight, was the end of the
- 21:44Speaker 1: original trilogy, got It, although they're not considering Loop are
- 21:48Speaker 1: of the series. All the books are released in the
- 21:53Speaker 1: States except for one, and it's been over ten years
- 21:57Speaker 1: since they released in Japan, and we still have now
- 22:00Speaker 1: gotten in the States, and I'm still mad about it. Tied,
- 22:04Speaker 1: the last one, the one that ends it all, we
- 22:07Speaker 1: have not still gotten an English translation in the States,
- 22:09Speaker 1: and I'm like, give it to me, give me it.
- 22:11Speaker 1: I want it, want it. So what we might do
- 22:16Speaker 1: is there's the Wikipedia page. There's a page I found
- 22:20Speaker 1: that has the plot. I just can't verify if it's
- 22:23Speaker 1: actually real, if that's actually a plot or not. So
- 22:27Speaker 1: I'll I'll cross that bridge when we get to Tide.
- 22:31Speaker 1: But all the other books I have, I broke my
- 22:34Speaker 1: elbow for it. I lost an elbow for it, y'all.
- 22:39Speaker 1: I lost an elbow for it. So we're gonna talk
- 22:42Speaker 1: about those damn books one way or another. But yeah,
- 22:48Speaker 1: that's the at the end of the world. There's next week.
- 22:52Speaker 1: I want to talk about another one shot, another one
- 22:55Speaker 1: off manga and son. It's where Santa meets a little girl.
- 23:02Speaker 1: That's there's a lot more to that, but that's another
- 23:06Speaker 1: little one off manga that I want to talk about.
- 23:08Speaker 1: And then of course we'll jump we'll probably jump back
- 23:10Speaker 1: to the Will of Time, finishing off of that most likely.
- 23:14Speaker 1: Most likely.
- 23:15Speaker 3: So I'm almost done. Oh yeah, period, period, finally almost done.
- 23:23Speaker 3: Like I'm on book fourteen now, which is the last
- 23:26Speaker 3: in the series, and I gotta tell y'all it is
- 23:30Speaker 3: a roller coaster tea like tea, yeah, tea, so.
- 23:37Speaker 1: To look forward to all that, and then from there
- 23:41Speaker 1: we'll jump to other books. Eventually reached the I'll get
- 23:43Speaker 1: to the manga Ring Ring two Spiral Birthday Birthday zero
- 23:50Speaker 1: Ring zero Birthday. We'll get to the manga gets the
- 23:53Speaker 1: books at some point we'll spread them out. But yeah,
- 23:57Speaker 1: that's today's episode, y'all. Catch next time as I talk
- 24:02Speaker 1: about Silao again because I love the Ring. But until then, bye,
- 24:09Speaker 1: Uh let me let me end the recording for this
- 24:13Speaker 1: at the same time I cut the recording. Uh do
- 24:18Speaker 1: do do do? Corraig, where are you at, Miss Mail?
- 24:23Speaker 1: Are you
