- 0:03Speaker 1: Wake up.
- 0:05Speaker 1: next
- 0:07Speaker 1: Kicking off your day in the best way. It's Sonia
- 0:10Speaker 1: and Joakim on the shock circuit. Good morning and welcome
- 0:13Speaker 1: to the show. We're almost arriving to the weekend. And
- 0:17Speaker 1: today is the day the Cheers Breakfast Club bundle becomes available.
- 0:21Speaker 1: 12,000 bundles island-wide. Wow, that's incredible. Stay tuned for more
- 0:26Speaker 1: great music. Joakim's disappeared to the restroom for like the
- 0:29Speaker 1: past 10 minutes, so I'm going to drop him a
- 0:31Speaker 1: text to ask him if he's OK.
- 0:34Speaker 1: This happens every once in a while, you know, the
- 0:36Speaker 1: beauty and the joy of live radio, right? Anyway, welcome
- 0:39Speaker 1: to Thursday, the 3rd of September. Tomorrow is Teachers' Day.
- 0:43Speaker 1: Have you planned anything just yet? Drop me a message, 90050987.
- 0:50Speaker 1: Let me know, like, have you bought your teacher a
- 0:53Speaker 1: Teacher's Day present? I mean, that's still a thing, right?
- 0:55Speaker 1: You know, you write letters, you give them little gifts,
- 0:58Speaker 1: and it's the one time a year teachers feel extremely,
- 1:01Speaker 1: extremely loved, despite whatever has happened throughout the year, you know,
- 1:05Speaker 1: whether or not you've had to have difficult conversations with
- 1:08Speaker 1: your students or
- 1:10Speaker 1: You know, unfortunately give a bad grade, maybe. I think
- 1:13Speaker 1: it's not easy to be a teacher at all. So,
- 1:16Speaker 1: drop me a message, 90050987. Let me know what your
- 1:20Speaker 1: school has planned for Teacher's Day. I would love to know. You,
- 1:24Speaker 1: you disappeared for like 15 minutes. Are you OK, bro?
- 1:27Speaker 1: I apologize. Are you OK? Just morning digestive. Thank you
- 1:32Speaker 1: very much. You're most welcome. All good. I said, you know,
- 1:35Speaker 1: that's the, that's the beauty of life radio.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Um, most things can't be, can't be escaped or missed,
- 1:40Speaker 1: you know, because it's, it's life. a.m. to 10 a.m.
- 1:42Speaker 1: you know. Yeah, 100%. We keep secrets. You know, the
- 1:51Speaker 1: funny thing is because
- 1:53Speaker 1: We, we're, we're on 6 to 10 every day, right?
- 1:56Speaker 1: But it's not every day that our friends and family
- 1:59Speaker 1: or like even my partner can listen to us on,
- 2:01Speaker 1: on air. So sometimes he will get people texting him
- 2:05Speaker 1: saying like, hey, bro, this happened to you. And then he,
- 2:10Speaker 1: he'll be like, let me guess, you heard it on radio,
- 2:11Speaker 1: is it? Jeremy is all around us. Nothing is really
- 2:16Speaker 1: a secret when it comes to our show in our lives,
- 2:19Speaker 1: I guess, right?
- 2:20Speaker 1: Anyway, um, stick about. It's closing in on 6:30. Earlier on,
- 2:24Speaker 1: I asked if you're doing anything special for Teachers' Day
- 2:27Speaker 1: that's happening tomorrow. Oh, celebrations. So it's a long weekend
- 2:34Speaker 1: here in Singapore. Yeah, yeah, that's right. Um, we have
- 2:38Speaker 1: one coming in and just say hi over here to,
- 2:40Speaker 1: you didn't leave a name.
- 2:42Speaker 1: But you said, hey, um, we are pretty excited. My
- 2:44Speaker 1: favorite teacher, I wanna give a big shout out to
- 2:46Speaker 1: my English teacher. Thank you so much for um just
- 2:49Speaker 1: giving me all the care and attention in class. So,
- 2:52Speaker 1: I'm just googling PSLE written examination schedule. I believe it
- 2:59Speaker 1: begins 15th of September. Oh, OK. We start with mother tongue. Oh, yeah,
- 3:05Speaker 1: usually that's the case. So all the best to you. Alright.
- 3:09Speaker 1: Well, whatever it is that you are strong in in
- 3:12Speaker 1: terms of your subjects, keep working on that and don't
- 3:15Speaker 1: give up hope with your weaker ones. I meant to say. Oh, OK, OK. Wait,
- 3:20Speaker 1: you're talking about PSLE PSLE. Well, I guess oral examinations
- 3:24Speaker 1: have been cleared for PSLE already. And now it's listening. Yeah, exactly.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Keep right here on 987, Singapore's number one hit music station.
- 3:32Speaker 1: Son and Jokim with you. Thank you so much for
- 3:35Speaker 1: joining us. It's a bit of an early days to
- 3:38Speaker 1: do crime news here in Singapore. That's. Is it crime
- 3:42Speaker 1: or real crime? Not crime, Oh no, but a follow
- 3:44Speaker 1: up to what I was very excited about when I
- 3:47Speaker 1: shared it with you on Tuesday, uh, that $3 billion
- 3:50Speaker 1: money laundering case. How did it become $1 billion to
- 3:53Speaker 1: $3 billion all of a sudden? Like, so I guess
- 3:55Speaker 1: in total it's the $3 billion. There you go. They, they,
- 3:59Speaker 1: they managed.
- 3:59Speaker 1: To get the value of everything. Perhaps. So apparently we
- 4:03Speaker 1: know that the luxury items are being auctioned very soon. OK.
- 4:07Speaker 1: How about the apartments? 00, wow, apartments can be auctioned.
- 4:11Speaker 1: I never knew that. I think they have the River
- 4:14Speaker 1: Valley and Tanjong Pagar apartments that will go under the
- 4:19Speaker 1: auction guide prices between 2.238 million and 6.78 million. How?
- 4:27Speaker 1: Why look at me. Do you have a 6.78 million
- 4:30Speaker 1: lying somewhere in the bank, Sonia? I mean, you know,
- 4:32Speaker 1: when is the next total draw? Let's hope for the best.
- 4:35Speaker 1: And then they got 4 apartments over at the Wali
- 4:39Speaker 1: residence that will go on sale from 4.42 million to
- 4:43Speaker 1: 6.78 million. I'm curious to know how that matches up
- 4:47Speaker 1: or measures up with like what is, you know, the
- 4:50Speaker 1: price on the market. I think that that was it.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Oh, they probably went to people when they go down
- 4:56Speaker 1: and to really look and value the house and prices.
- 4:59Speaker 1: Maybe it comes with like furniture and art and stuff.
- 5:02Speaker 1: I don't know. There's also one at the Tower area
- 5:05Speaker 1: and Martin River Valley. Oh, that's a nice place. Yeah. Wow.
- 5:10Speaker 1: I mean, look, all very great locations.
- 5:13Speaker 1: So I'm sure that a lot of people are gonna
- 5:15Speaker 1: go and um bid for it. The price tag 2.3
- 5:19Speaker 1: million square footage so there's 23 and 4 bedrooms. There
- 5:25Speaker 1: you go, ranging from 764 square feet to 1,733 square feet. OK,
- 5:32Speaker 1: I mean, you're really paying for the area for sure.
- 5:35Speaker 1: The location is good. You're right.
- 5:38Speaker 1: OK, well, Joakim, time to raise some funds. So let
- 5:40Speaker 1: me know when you have your 6 million. Again, I
- 5:44Speaker 1: can't even make the starting bid. I'm ready. I'll just
- 5:46Speaker 1: go there as a spectator. Starting bid for the bottle
- 5:49Speaker 1: of wine, right? Remember how the SG Culture pass was,
- 5:53Speaker 1: was introduced about almost a year ago already. Around this
- 5:56Speaker 1: time last year, I remember this one. And we were
- 5:58Speaker 1: quite excited about that because it shows strong support for
- 6:02Speaker 1: our local scene, you know, arts and, and other types of.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Performances and experiences. I remember being on stage with then
- 6:10Speaker 1: Minister of Culture, Community and Youth Minister Edwin Tong. So
- 6:13Speaker 1: I actually cracked the door. So, for example, if Beyonce
- 6:16Speaker 1: comes to Singapore, can use the culture cannot cannot only
- 6:20Speaker 1: for local acts and local activities. Yes, exactly. So if it's,
- 6:25Speaker 1: I don't know, Beyonce from Ang Mo Kio, you know, yes,
- 6:28Speaker 1: maybe you can use. Do you think on that note,
- 6:32Speaker 1: there's like a Beyonce Tan or a Beyonce.
- 6:35Speaker 1: Well, I wouldn't put it past people to name their
- 6:38Speaker 1: kids after famous. I know I've I've met someone who's
- 6:41Speaker 1: called Rihanna before, but it's not spelled like the same.
- 6:44Speaker 1: Fair enough. But still, Rihanna, you immediately think the singer, right? Anyway, um,
- 6:48Speaker 1: speaking of the SG Culture Pass, it was about um
- 6:51Speaker 1: 300 million allocated to this. Can you guess the percentage
- 6:55Speaker 1: of Culture pass that has been used so far? I'm
- 6:59Speaker 1: going with maybe 50 or 60% or 60, right, at
- 7:02Speaker 1: the one year mark.
- 7:03Speaker 1: Uh, a bit far off, it's only been 10%. Yeah,
- 7:07Speaker 1: I was quite shocked to read that. 10% of 300
- 7:11Speaker 1: million worth of SG Culture Pass funds have been spent
- 7:15Speaker 1: in the first year. OK, um, there's, it's not entirely
- 7:19Speaker 1: bad because it shows you that people are interested, but,
- 7:23Speaker 1: but I think, um,
- 7:25Speaker 1: Our friends from Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth are
- 7:27Speaker 1: just taking the time to, um, taking the chance to
- 7:31Speaker 1: review it as well and maybe revise the way that
- 7:34Speaker 1: it's being used or what you can use it on. So,
- 7:36Speaker 1: it's just a way of um determining whether or not
- 7:39Speaker 1: people are interested in the things that are allocated. I
- 7:41Speaker 1: have a question. Do you think the SG right?
- 7:47Speaker 1: It's also doubling up as a small study to see
- 7:50Speaker 1: how interested Singaporeans are in our very own arts and
- 7:53Speaker 1: culture scene. Yeah, like what are they interested in because
- 7:56Speaker 1: I think you can see what they used it. So
- 7:59Speaker 1: maybe they see like, oh, perhaps more people are using
- 8:01Speaker 1: it to watch local plays or pantomimes or whatever, then
- 8:04Speaker 1: maybe they'll ramp up the amount of plays that are
- 8:08Speaker 1: being screened, perhaps, I don't know. I used to.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Secondary the musical, yes, I remember that in the year. Yeah.
- 8:13Speaker 1: So yeah, if you can do support the local theaters.
- 8:16Speaker 1: When I say theaters, I don't mean Golden Village or Share,
- 8:19Speaker 1: I mean your Wild Rices, your SRTs, so many other
- 8:22Speaker 1: theater companies now staging plays. So, um, well, if you
- 8:26Speaker 1: want a breakdown, I would say, uh, MCCY actually showed
- 8:31Speaker 1: what it has supported the most. 10.
- 8:33Speaker 1: 400 cultural programs, over 3000 books, and 23 films have
- 8:39Speaker 1: been supported ever since the launch of this, and it
- 8:42Speaker 1: includes over like 900 arts and heritage partners. Um, 76
- 8:46Speaker 1: publishers and 17 bookstores have benefited from this. So I
- 8:50Speaker 1: think it's a good start. It's a good start because
- 8:51Speaker 1: when you introduce something new, people are still unsure of
- 8:54Speaker 1: how to use it. And I think they brought up
- 8:56Speaker 1: a very good point.
- 8:58Speaker 1: How can we help the seniors gain more accessibility to
- 9:01Speaker 1: it because they may not even know like what to
- 9:03Speaker 1: do or how to use this. And with the rise
- 9:06Speaker 1: of more dialect-related films being introduced, maybe they should ramp
- 9:10Speaker 1: that up, I think. Maybe make a, yeah, dialect and
- 9:14Speaker 1: let them use it in the cinemas to watch it.
- 9:17Speaker 1: So you know what that means? Maybe.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Next year are Boys to Firemen. You can use your
- 9:22Speaker 1: SG Culture pass to watch it in cinemas because it's local.
- 9:25Speaker 1: It is local. I mean, it is, yeah, it is
- 9:28Speaker 1: a local film. You're right. You're not wrong. So we'll
- 9:30Speaker 1: see where it goes. Hopefully more people will utilize it
- 9:33Speaker 1: very soon and just make a day out of it,
- 9:35Speaker 1: you know. Beautiful. Yeah. That's all I know. I don't
- 9:39Speaker 1: know the next line actually. What is the next line?
- 9:42Speaker 1: But it's a classic Thai song.
- 9:45Speaker 1: Are you gonna Google it right now? I assuming it's
- 9:48Speaker 1: safe for airing on, that's a song. I know I know.
- 9:58Speaker 1: Oh, OK, it's, sorry, it says, uh, I can't provide
- 10:03Speaker 1: the full copyrighted lyrics.
- 10:07Speaker 1: OK, boo. GBT has failed me this morning. Anyway, when
- 10:11Speaker 1: it comes to Thailand and our visa-free stays, it used
- 10:16Speaker 1: to be 60 days. It used to be. So that's
- 10:19Speaker 1: about like 2 months. But come September 15th, they're going
- 10:22Speaker 1: to halve it to 30 days, not just to us.
- 10:26Speaker 1: But loads of other countries as well in a way
- 10:29Speaker 1: to limit foreigners doing dodgy and naughty things in Thailand
- 10:33Speaker 1: like in terms of crime and all that, and they
- 10:36Speaker 1: don't want people to misuse the visa-free stay. However, if
- 10:40Speaker 1: you're thinking, hey, but I go to Thailand often for
- 10:42Speaker 1: work or for business, what, what, what do I do?
- 10:45Speaker 1: You can extend your stay at least once, depending on
- 10:49Speaker 1: the immigration officer if he grants it or not. So
- 10:51Speaker 1: that kicks in September 15th, but if you're from Peru, Brazil,
- 10:57Speaker 1: or South Korea, your 60 days will be extended visa-free
- 11:01Speaker 1: to 90 days. Oh, interesting. So I googled.
- 11:06Speaker 1: What is the flight time from Brazil to Thailand? It's
- 11:09Speaker 1: about 27, 27 hours. I said 36 with a few
- 11:13Speaker 1: layovers and all that. Yeah, I think you have to
- 11:16Speaker 1: switch flights at minimally twice. Yeah, at least twice. So
- 11:19Speaker 1: I'm wondering why the special love to Peru, Brazil, and
- 11:23Speaker 1: South Korea. Maybe it's just oh, South Korea as well.
- 11:27Speaker 1: I don't have any Thai friends in high places to
- 11:30Speaker 1: ask this question. I don't think. You don't know. No, no, no.
- 11:36Speaker 1: So please take note again, September 15th, that's when the
- 11:38Speaker 1: new rulings for Thai immigration take place, take place. I mean,
- 11:41Speaker 1: I actually thought that, you know, Singaporeans will not have
- 11:45Speaker 1: a problem staying for longer, I guess. I think most
- 11:48Speaker 1: of us Singaporeans, we do it for like 4 days,
- 11:51Speaker 1: 3 nights or 5 days.
- 11:52Speaker 1: I don't think I know any Singaporeans that do like
- 11:55Speaker 1: long stays unless I've got a couple of friends who
- 11:58Speaker 1: have moved there for like work and stuff, so unless
- 12:00Speaker 1: you're not just going there to Bangkok, you're going to
- 12:03Speaker 1: the countryside or other regions of Thailand. Yes. Yeah. Um,
- 12:07Speaker 1: speaking of which, have you been to other places of Thailand? Phuket.
- 12:11Speaker 1: Only Phuket. Bangkok, Speaking of Pattaya, um, the USS Abraham.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Ham Lincoln is officially docked. The sailors were, were on sea,
- 12:23Speaker 1: were at this word at sea rather for 270++ days.
- 12:28Speaker 1: It's like opening the gates of Troy. Yeah, I, you
- 12:31Speaker 1: know what, they deserve some R&R, some food. I want
- 12:34Speaker 1: some some drinks, live life, you know, live life. I
- 12:39Speaker 1: got a question for you, Joe, that might wake you
- 12:41Speaker 1: up this morning, OK. You know we've been working for
- 12:45Speaker 1: over 10 years now, right?
- 12:47Speaker 1: Uh, what if one day I told you, like, Joe,
- 12:49Speaker 1: I want to become a nun? Like what would you?
- 12:55Speaker 1: What would you do? What was your reaction? Is that
- 12:58Speaker 1: your reaction? The fall of the Catholic Church has begun.
- 13:01Speaker 1: It's so bad. What do you mean? What do you mean?
- 13:05Speaker 1: You know, you know, the funny thing is, for legal reasons,
- 13:07Speaker 1: I meant that as a joke just in case we're joking. Um,
- 13:10Speaker 1: but my, my parents had a similar reaction to you
- 13:13Speaker 1: because
- 13:14Speaker 1: So, hold on, I'm sorry. This, this is worse than
- 13:18Speaker 1: Whoopi Goldberg in Sister Act, OK? This is worse than
- 13:21Speaker 1: a throwback, um, no, because over, over the weekend, right, I,
- 13:26Speaker 1: why are you laughing? Very rude. This is an image
- 13:28Speaker 1: of you in the habit habit and the nun outfit, right,
- 13:32Speaker 1: with your hands clasped together looking very holy. Wow, so
- 13:36Speaker 1: bad you don't have faith in me.
- 13:38Speaker 1: Um, it was so funny because over the weekend, I
- 13:41Speaker 1: was in, we were in church as family, and um
- 13:44Speaker 1: it's something we do every Sunday and I think the,
- 13:47Speaker 1: during the er like the homily, which is when, you know,
- 13:49Speaker 1: they share certain things, the priest will share some stories
- 13:52Speaker 1: and stuff, right? Just to put it very plainly.
- 13:55Speaker 1: Um, he did bring this up. He said, you know,
- 13:56Speaker 1: some people get their calling at any time of their lives.
- 13:59Speaker 1: It may not be like you're born and you know
- 14:02Speaker 1: that you want to be a priest or a monk
- 14:04Speaker 1: or a nun or whatever. Sometimes it comes to you
- 14:06Speaker 1: like in the middle of your life, right? And all
- 14:08Speaker 1: of a sudden I saw this story that was posted
- 14:11Speaker 1: just last night actually, that got me thinking like, what
- 14:15Speaker 1: if one day either one of us got a calling,
- 14:18Speaker 1: you know.
- 14:19Speaker 1: I'll tell you
- 14:22Speaker 1: Honestly, I don't think, I think the church will reject
- 14:24Speaker 1: us lah. OK, let's just say for yourself, OK. Oh,
- 14:28Speaker 1: come on, joking. So to be fair to you, to
- 14:30Speaker 1: be fair to you, you wanted to be a priest
- 14:32Speaker 1: last time. What if one day I tell you sons,
- 14:37Speaker 1: stop it.
- 14:38Speaker 1: Just sent Joakim into a burst of laughter early on
- 14:41Speaker 1: when I asked him a question he did not expect.
- 14:43Speaker 1: When I asked him, what if one day I come
- 14:46Speaker 1: to work after, you know, over 10 years of working,
- 14:49Speaker 1: I say, Joakim, I want to become a nun, and
- 14:52Speaker 1: he just cackled so hard. I think I saw tears
- 14:54Speaker 1: in his eyes. I mean for Halloween? No, like for real.
- 14:59Speaker 1: The reason why I'm saying this is because an extraordinary
- 15:01Speaker 1: story coming in from Thailand right now, OK. Sister Mary Sonia, no, no,
- 15:06Speaker 1: Sister Chu, do I have to change my name? You
- 15:09Speaker 1: must always put Mary before your, your, your nun name. Really?
- 15:13Speaker 1: I didn't know that. As an homage to Mary, Sister Mary.
- 15:16Speaker 1: What kind of guessing am I? OK.
- 15:20Speaker 1: Anyway,
- 15:22Speaker 1: I didn't, I really didn't know that because I was
- 15:25Speaker 1: in school, in a convent school and there were nuns
- 15:27Speaker 1: there and we called them by their names, like, you know,
- 15:31Speaker 1: Sister Angela or sister or something. OK, so they just
- 15:37Speaker 1: cut it out, I could be wrong. Oh, now you
- 15:39Speaker 1: say you could be wrong. OK, anyway, um, take you
- 15:41Speaker 1: to Thailand right now, where this ice cream founder and
- 15:45Speaker 1: businessman who's actually really successful, like he's built a brand
- 15:49Speaker 1: for himself in Thailand.
- 15:51Speaker 1: And by the way, he has a wife and daughter.
- 15:54Speaker 1: He's decided to sell his business for over $6 million
- 15:57Speaker 1: Singapore dollars, OK? And he wants to be a monk.
- 16:01Speaker 1: He's going to cut off all contact with his, yeah,
- 16:03Speaker 1: like with his worldly life, as we call it, and
- 16:07Speaker 1: he's going to fully dedicate the rest of his life
- 16:09Speaker 1: to meditating and to to monkhood, which I thought was, wow,
- 16:13Speaker 1: an incredible story, but at the same time, I'm like,
- 16:16Speaker 1: Then his wife and his daughter, how? Like, I, I,
- 16:19Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know, maybe they will live off
- 16:21Speaker 1: the sale of his business. rulings. I, I have no idea.
- 16:28Speaker 1: So this one, I really don't know, but he, he
- 16:31Speaker 1: has given quite a bit of like um interviews in
- 16:33Speaker 1: regards to this because I think people have found it
- 16:35Speaker 1: quite fascinating, um, you know, that he's got a family,
- 16:39Speaker 1: he's got everything going for him, like why, right? Now,
- 16:42Speaker 1: he's searching for a successor at this point in time.
- 16:46Speaker 1: Um, and he feels like he has about maybe 2
- 16:48Speaker 1: more years in his worldly life with, you know, material
- 16:51Speaker 1: items and all that before he wants to renounce that completely.
- 16:54Speaker 1: In those 2 years, he wants to find land for
- 16:57Speaker 1: a retreat where he can meditate before ordaining himself as
- 17:00Speaker 1: a monk and devoting entirely to spiritual solitude. That is,
- 17:06Speaker 1: that is next level, you know, so I don't, I mean,
- 17:09Speaker 1: this story will continue to develop and fascinate the world,
- 17:12Speaker 1: I'm very sure. But as you know, in Thailand,
- 17:15Speaker 1: Um, the whole concept of becoming a monk is, is
- 17:17Speaker 1: a very big deal for them. Some people actually do
- 17:20Speaker 1: it for a short period of time where you can,
- 17:22Speaker 1: you know, go into solitude and meditate for like, I
- 17:24Speaker 1: don't know, a week or a month or something like that.
- 17:27Speaker 1: Both men and women have done this before, I feel.
- 17:31Speaker 1: So I don't know how legit or this is, but
- 17:34Speaker 1: when I Google Thai monks, men.
- 17:38Speaker 1: I get loads of articles saying that Thai men are
- 17:41Speaker 1: expected to become a short-term ordained monk at some point
- 17:45Speaker 1: in their life. Yeah, yeah, I've seen articles as well,
- 17:48Speaker 1: and you know, some people have made comments about how
- 17:52Speaker 1: handsome blah blah blah. Then you realize, oh, he's not
- 17:55Speaker 1: a full-time monk.
- 17:56Speaker 1: For like a month or a few months. So they
- 17:58Speaker 1: are expected to do their stay at a monastery after
- 18:01Speaker 1: the age of 20 once they have the maturity needed
- 18:04Speaker 1: to endure the strict guidelines of a monastic life. Yeah,
- 18:08Speaker 1: I like that about Thailand, to be honest. Maybe that's
- 18:11Speaker 1: why they're so happy and peaceful and loving and spiritual. Yeah, yeah,
- 18:14Speaker 1: I loved it. Anyway, all the best to this guy
- 18:16Speaker 1: and um.
- 18:18Speaker 1: Yeah, don't, don't laugh at me if I ever, if
- 18:21Speaker 1: I ever have a calling, OK. This one really is
- 18:22Speaker 1: a divine intervention sort of situation. You know, it's. You
- 18:29Speaker 1: will know that it's real. You know that it's real.
- 18:31Speaker 1: You won't burst out laughing. But for now, because you
- 18:34Speaker 1: know it's not real. OK, so, um, this happened just
- 18:38Speaker 1: yesterday and if my friends that I was with are
- 18:41Speaker 1: tuning in now, I just want to reassure you that
- 18:43Speaker 1: I'm not annoyed or mad or anything, OK? It's just funny.
- 18:47Speaker 1: It's just funny.
- 18:48Speaker 1: And um when I tell you the story, you understand why.
- 18:51Speaker 1: And this is, this is by no means meant to
- 18:53Speaker 1: make them feel bad at all. OK? So, as you know,
- 18:57Speaker 1: Joim and I, I would say I go to Hai
- 19:00Speaker 1: T Lao the most with you and two of our
- 19:04Speaker 1: other friends whom you know. Um, so you would kind
- 19:07Speaker 1: of know what I might order at Hai T Lao.
- 19:09Speaker 1: All the vegetables, true, no meat. Let's start with the
- 19:13Speaker 1: soup base. Like what would I usually, what would we order?
- 19:16Speaker 1: Tomato and.
- 19:18Speaker 1: Yes, OK. And then, as you rightfully said, yeah, I
- 19:21Speaker 1: love all kinds of vegetables. Maybe just half, half beef
- 19:25Speaker 1: for me is enough. No, no, no, and your crab stick.
- 19:28Speaker 1: What a waste of money. But, excuse, are you my
- 19:31Speaker 1: mom or what? She always tells me that why I
- 19:33Speaker 1: always buy the cheap stuff and overpay for it. I mean,
- 19:35Speaker 1: I'd rather you get proper, like, you know, fish. I
- 19:39Speaker 1: do get proper fish. I get the fish slices. OK,
- 19:43Speaker 1: never mind, moving on. OK, this one for another day. OK,
- 19:45Speaker 1: we fight another day.
- 19:47Speaker 1: So I was coming from a work thing yesterday and
- 19:49Speaker 1: I knew I was gonna be behind time already. So
- 19:52Speaker 1: I texted them and I said like, hey guys, you know,
- 19:54Speaker 1: like please go ahead, start first. I'll, I'll be there
- 19:56Speaker 1: in like 20 minutes or so. So they said, yeah, OK, sure, like,
- 19:59Speaker 1: you know, we'll start.
- 20:00Speaker 1: And I didn't think to communicate with them like what
- 20:05Speaker 1: I usually would order at Hai Tilao because for this
- 20:07Speaker 1: group of friends, we've never eaten at Hai Tilao together before.
- 20:10Speaker 1: This was like the first time ever, OK, so I
- 20:13Speaker 1: don't know why. I kind of just thought a standard lah.
- 20:15Speaker 1: They confirm order mala, you know, confirm order these things, right?
- 20:19Speaker 1: So I arrived, lo and behold, there's no mala soup.
- 20:23Speaker 1: So what was the soup? It's basically things I've never ordered. It's, um,
- 20:27Speaker 1: it was the collagen soup.
- 20:28Speaker 1: And a chicken soup. So, OK, they explained that um
- 20:34Speaker 1: I think one of them was recovering from like a
- 20:35Speaker 1: cough or something. So she said she didn't think to
- 20:37Speaker 1: order and I think their spice tolerance is not so high.
- 20:40Speaker 1: So then, you know, we didn't communicate these things and
- 20:42Speaker 1: we didn't even realize that about each other, right, at
- 20:44Speaker 1: hotpot restaurant. Can I ask, did none of them even
- 20:48Speaker 1: ask you what soup base you want? No way.
- 20:51Speaker 1: That's strange because if I, if you told me to
- 20:54Speaker 1: go ahead first, right, I'll say, hey, what soup base
- 20:56Speaker 1: you want? Tell me now. So that's the thing. So
- 20:58Speaker 1: I went, please start first. Just go ahead and order. I,
- 21:01Speaker 1: I wrote that in the chat, so maybe I sounded
- 21:02Speaker 1: very chin shy about it or I sounded very easy
- 21:05Speaker 1: about it.
- 21:06Speaker 1: And OK, you, you've known me long enough to know
- 21:08Speaker 1: that I can be quite particular with the way I
- 21:10Speaker 1: enjoy my food. Like I need to enjoy it in
- 21:13Speaker 1: a specific way, right, OK, but hai Tauo and, and
- 21:17Speaker 1: hot pot still not so bad because I still love
- 21:19Speaker 1: soup and you know, when it comes down to like
- 21:21Speaker 1: making your own sauce, you can still spice it up
- 21:23Speaker 1: or like add as much chili as you want. So
- 21:25Speaker 1: that's fine. I can still tweak it and like I said,
- 21:27Speaker 1: this is.
- 21:28Speaker 1: If they're tuning in now, it's not to make them
- 21:29Speaker 1: feel bad at all, but I just chuckled and found
- 21:31Speaker 1: it hilarious because why didn't I just say something when
- 21:35Speaker 1: I texted them? Maybe I was in a rush or
- 21:37Speaker 1: a hurry and it didn't occur to me, but I
- 21:39Speaker 1: should have just said it if I'm so particular, you know.
- 21:41Speaker 1: My next question, did they order half and half or
- 21:44Speaker 1: quarter pots? Half and half. Yeah, exactly. So I was
- 21:49Speaker 1: gonna save money.
- 21:51Speaker 1: Yeah, yo, you know what, I think they don't really
- 21:53Speaker 1: go hot pot very often as well. So this is,
- 21:55Speaker 1: that's why I said this is our first time going
- 21:57Speaker 1: for like a hot pot meal together, which then got
- 21:59Speaker 1: me thinking, are you very particular about what you order
- 22:04Speaker 1: at a restaurant? So for example, if you're going to
- 22:07Speaker 1: hang out with your friends and all that, will you
- 22:09Speaker 1: trust them to order for you, or would you specifically
- 22:13Speaker 1: give them some instructions or guidance? Nothing against my friends,
- 22:17Speaker 1: but I'm the kind of person where if I'm gonna
- 22:19Speaker 1: be late.
- 22:20Speaker 1: You tell me which restaurant we're going to. I will Google.
- 22:24Speaker 1: I will search the menu tell them what you want,
- 22:25Speaker 1: and then I'll say, Hey, help me order this pizza
- 22:27Speaker 1: or that pasta or that piece of meat. Yeah, OK, OK.
- 22:30Speaker 1: So you can be quite particular. I mean, I guess
- 22:33Speaker 1: for you it's more of like just in case they
- 22:34Speaker 1: order things that you don't eat, like different types of
- 22:37Speaker 1: seafood that you're not so comfortable with or what. For example,
- 22:41Speaker 1: at a restaurant, they ordered a steamed fish which I don't. Yeah,
- 22:44Speaker 1: I'm like, guys, can you just order the sweet and
- 22:46Speaker 1: sour pork for me, please? Basic, basic. Hey, hello, it's delicious.
- 22:49Speaker 1: I love it but good pepper beef, sweet and sour pork, kangkong,
- 22:52Speaker 1: hot plate tofu. I'm done. Oh no, OK, hot plate tofu. Um, well,
- 22:56Speaker 1: give us a call 669-11987. Are you the sort that
- 23:01Speaker 1: would trust your friends or family to order for you,
- 23:03Speaker 1: or are you too particular and you want to be
- 23:06Speaker 1: in control of the ordering? OK, let us know, OK? 669-11987.
- 23:11Speaker 1: In exchange, this is your second last chance to walk
- 23:13Speaker 1: away with a lovely treat thanks to one Hao Chinese restaurant.
- 23:16Speaker 1: It is worth almost 2.
- 23:17Speaker 1: $200. They're over at Marriott 10 Plaza Hotel and since
- 23:22Speaker 1: Mid-Autumn Festival is around the corner, they want to gift
- 23:25Speaker 1: you this beautiful assorted mooncake treat. You can also WhatsApp
- 23:28Speaker 1: us at 90050987. Are you the kind that's very particular
- 23:34Speaker 1: with ordering your food or you don't mind entrusting it
- 23:36Speaker 1: to your family and friends? Let us know. Talking about
- 23:39Speaker 1: my experience yesterday where, um, admittedly, I didn't give any
- 23:43Speaker 1: directions when it came to ordering food over at the
- 23:45Speaker 1: hotpot restaurant.
- 23:46Speaker 1: Only to arrive because I, I was running late due
- 23:50Speaker 1: to work. I arrived there and realized that my friends
- 23:52Speaker 1: didn't order mala soup, to which I said I, I
- 23:56Speaker 1: should have told them beforehand. Yeah, no, it's quite interesting
- 23:58Speaker 1: because again, if I were one of those friends you yesterday,
- 24:03Speaker 1: I would have texted you, Hey, what do you want? Why, why,
- 24:06Speaker 1: why didn't they do that? Because I, I said, um,
- 24:09Speaker 1: just go ahead and order and start without me. Even then,
- 24:12Speaker 1: I would say, hey, what soup you want?
- 24:15Speaker 1: I don't know. Maybe it just didn't occur. Look, like
- 24:17Speaker 1: I said, we've never had hot pot together before. So I,
- 24:20Speaker 1: I don't want him to feel bad about it too,
- 24:21Speaker 1: because honestly, I still had a good time and I
- 24:24Speaker 1: still had a good meal, so it's all good. I,
- 24:26Speaker 1: I topped it up with my own chili.
- 24:28Speaker 1: But different, right? No kick, right? I need to go
- 24:30Speaker 1: back again soon. Yeah, there you go. Anyway, we wanted
- 24:32Speaker 1: to pose this question to you. Would you trust your
- 24:35Speaker 1: family and friends to order food for you, or are
- 24:38Speaker 1: you really particular and you want to order the way
- 24:41Speaker 1: that you want? We got a text coming in from Selena. Morning,
- 24:44Speaker 1: Sonia and Joakim. I'm very particular in ordering my food.
- 24:47Speaker 1: I have gastric and my stomach is very tight.
- 24:50Speaker 1: OK, mess with that one. I get you. Um, Charlotte says,
- 24:55Speaker 1: hi here. If you want something, must say, cannot complain after.
- 24:58Speaker 1: There's also something to be said about hot pot etiquettes. Um,
- 25:01Speaker 1: are your friends the kind that put all the ingredients
- 25:03Speaker 1: in and it's free for everyone to take, or what
- 25:05Speaker 1: you put in is what you take out? And if
- 25:08Speaker 1: someone takes like your beef, for example, will you go, hey,
- 25:10Speaker 1: who took my beef?
- 25:13Speaker 1: I'm that guy. Actually, I think for most part, um,
- 25:18Speaker 1: most of the time we will put in what we
- 25:20Speaker 1: want to take out, yeah, typically I feel like that's
- 25:23Speaker 1: the way we do it. Again, having with you is
- 25:25Speaker 1: easy because you know you eat all the vegetables, I
- 25:27Speaker 1: eat all the meat, that's true. But with groups of friends, right,
- 25:30Speaker 1: I'm like, hey, who took my beef? That's my beef
- 25:33Speaker 1: because the size of beef got your name on it.
- 25:35Speaker 1: I mean, I put it in there. I'm cooking it escape,
- 25:38Speaker 1: you know what I mean, yes, yes.
- 25:40Speaker 1: Keep the calls coming in over at 669-119-87 or WhatsApp
- 25:44Speaker 1: us at 90050987. Yeah, we got Kai who's hanging on
- 25:49Speaker 1: the line in just a little bit, but of course,
- 25:51Speaker 1: still time for your calls, 669-11987. Let us know, are
- 25:54Speaker 1: you very particular about the way you order your food
- 25:57Speaker 1: or can you trust your family and friends to order
- 26:00Speaker 1: for you? We're talking about whether or not you are
- 26:03Speaker 1: very particular about the way you order.
- 26:04Speaker 1: Your food or can you entrust it to your friends
- 26:08Speaker 1: and family members to order for you? OK, I got
- 26:11Speaker 1: one coming in from Herman. Hey, Sonia and Joakim, I
- 26:15Speaker 1: think I qualify as very particular with food. I'm the
- 26:19Speaker 1: kind of person who can reject a restaurant because the
- 26:21Speaker 1: menu has nothing I feel like eating, then spend another
- 26:25Speaker 1: 40 minutes scrolling for food, only to end up ordering
- 26:28Speaker 1: the same thing.
- 26:30Speaker 1: I always eat and if my food arrives looking different
- 26:33Speaker 1: from the photo, my mood immediately affected ha ha ha
- 26:36Speaker 1: ha ha. Fries must be crispy, eggs cannot be too cooked,
- 26:40Speaker 1: drinks cannot be too sweet, and if I'm craving something,
- 26:43Speaker 1: no substitute will do. Actually, to some extent, I think
- 26:47Speaker 1: I am very similar to him, you know, by the way,
- 26:50Speaker 1: our texter earlier, because I, I personally feel that if
- 26:54Speaker 1: I have one bad meal, it ruins.
- 26:57Speaker 1: My mood for the day. Like it needs to be
- 26:58Speaker 1: satisfying to me because food to me is life and
- 27:01Speaker 1: it's really important. Yeah, I remember going to some restaurants
- 27:04Speaker 1: around the Tanjung Pagar area, right? I won't say which one,
- 27:07Speaker 1: but there was one that was quite famous for its
- 27:09Speaker 1: chicken cutlet, some Shanghai style chicken cutlet or something like that.
- 27:14Speaker 1: It looked great in the picture when it arrived. Whoa, catfish,
- 27:19Speaker 1: catfish is absolutely correct. catfish. There you go. One more coming.
- 27:23Speaker 1: In from Johannes, who says morning guys. Of course, one
- 27:26Speaker 1: of the best parts going out with a group of
- 27:28Speaker 1: friends or doing trips overseas is that I don't need
- 27:30Speaker 1: to order, especially Hai Tauo. They know what I don't
- 27:33Speaker 1: like and will always make sure we will all eat well.
- 27:36Speaker 1: It gives you the chance to try new things and
- 27:38Speaker 1: have the best time over makan without having to worry
- 27:41Speaker 1: about the menu or deal with QR code ordering. Can't
- 27:45Speaker 1: ask for a better time than that. That's sweet. Yeah, hey, um, Jonas,
- 27:48Speaker 1: thank you so much for that text. We also realized.
- 27:50Speaker 1: That you might be texting us from elsewhere. Like, are
- 27:52Speaker 1: you tuned in from Singapore? Are are you based overseas
- 27:55Speaker 1: or overseas number? Yes, overseas number. So thank you for
- 27:58Speaker 1: tuning in regardless from where, where you are. Kai is
- 28:01Speaker 1: on the line right now. OK, Kai, tell us which, which, uh,
- 28:05Speaker 1: which category do you fall in?
- 28:06Speaker 2: For me, I have this rule in life if there's chili,
- 28:09Speaker 2: I'm fine. So, uh, if you go to like I
- 28:11Speaker 2: had the same scenario that what you guys talk about
- 28:15Speaker 2: in the morning, right? You just spend.
- 28:17Speaker 2: The chili sauce, get your garlic, your chili, and everything
- 28:19Speaker 2: goes down, even if there's no mala, you can't sort
- 28:22Speaker 2: of like make your own mala, even if like your
- 28:24Speaker 2: friends order like meatball stuff, you know, then you just
- 28:26Speaker 2: go to the store and like, I'm gonna jiala jiao lima,
- 28:29Speaker 2: then everything goes down.
- 28:30Speaker 1: Yeah, I think joki and I are exactly like you.
- 28:32Speaker 1: It's like chili is life for us, but the hai
- 28:34Speaker 1: tila experience, right, no mala, no cake. I know. So
- 28:37Speaker 1: I didn't even order the, you know, the kung fu noodles.
- 28:40Speaker 1: I didn't order it because it's no cake without the
- 28:42Speaker 1: mala soup.
- 28:44Speaker 1: It's OK. Thank you so much, Kai, for your call.
- 28:47Speaker 1: Take care. We're still down to more of your messages.
- 28:49Speaker 1: Based on my experience yesterday where I mentioned that um
- 28:52Speaker 1: I didn't have control over what was ordered for dinner, admittedly,
- 28:56Speaker 1: because I said, you know, hey, I'm easy, just start first,
- 28:58Speaker 1: order without me, go ahead, you know, um, only to
- 29:00Speaker 1: get there and realize that at Hai Til Lao, they
- 29:03Speaker 1: didn't order malatang for me. To which, you know what,
- 29:08Speaker 1: I don't blame them because we, this group of friends,
- 29:10Speaker 1: we've never had Hai Tillao together before.
- 29:13Speaker 1: And they had their reasons for why they didn't want
- 29:15Speaker 1: to order spice. OK, so I said, OK, never mind,
- 29:18Speaker 1: it's fine. Like I'll just add spice to my own sauce.
- 29:20Speaker 1: Can I counter the argument? Because let's just say for example,
- 29:24Speaker 1: if it's my first time having tila or anything with you, right,
- 29:27Speaker 1: and I know you're gonna be late.
- 29:29Speaker 1: And for example, I want to time it as such
- 29:31Speaker 1: as when you get there, the food arrives at the
- 29:34Speaker 1: same time. You can start, right? I would actually send
- 29:37Speaker 1: you a picture of the menu. No, really, I would.
- 29:39Speaker 1: I mean, OK, I already know what I would typically, right,
- 29:41Speaker 1: but because I was in such a rush, I didn't
- 29:45Speaker 1: think to.
- 29:46Speaker 1: I didn't think to direct them, you know. OK, yeah,
- 29:49Speaker 1: by the way, we have a text coming in and
- 29:50Speaker 1: this person can join the club, same as you. I
- 29:53Speaker 1: want to say good morning to VC. I'm not picky
- 29:56Speaker 1: with food. I can eat almost anything, but I have
- 29:58Speaker 1: a preference in the way I eat them. So I did,
- 30:01Speaker 1: so I do rather be in control of the ordering,
- 30:03Speaker 1: ha ha, because food affects my mood.
- 30:06Speaker 1: Hot pot preferences are the same as Sonia. Vegetable, crab stick, tofu, fish, mala, cheese, tofu,
- 30:13Speaker 1: cheese tofu. Exactly. There you go. I love it. I mean, it's, yeah, but,
- 30:18Speaker 1: but now I need to go back again soon just
- 30:20Speaker 1: to enjoy it in the mala soup. I need to
- 30:23Speaker 1: understand this obsession with crab stick really. I mean, it's
- 30:27Speaker 1: just tasty. You don't find it tasty.
- 30:29Speaker 1: OK, Jeremy would tell me that it tastes like nothing.
- 30:33Speaker 1: He calls it a non-event. A man with good sense.
- 30:36Speaker 1: There you go. Love that man. Hey, once again, you
- 30:39Speaker 1: are my friend. You're supposed to support me. You understand?
- 30:44Speaker 1: I support you with honesty, lah. I mean, you want
- 30:47Speaker 1: to go be his friend, go be his friend. He
- 30:48Speaker 1: lied to you or not? No, right? This is a,
- 30:51Speaker 1: this is an argument we cannot win. OK. Let's just
- 30:54Speaker 1: agree to disagree. OK, well, last few messages here, just
- 30:57Speaker 1: having a good laugh right now because I really think
- 30:59Speaker 1: it shows a lot about your personality, the way that
- 31:01Speaker 1: you order food, OK? And based on my own experience
- 31:05Speaker 1: yesterday where I wasn't exactly in control of what was
- 31:07Speaker 1: ordered for dinner, admittedly, because I also didn't give them
- 31:10Speaker 1: any direction I was rushing.
- 31:12Speaker 1: And um I asked you this question here today. Are
- 31:15Speaker 1: you the sort that's very particular about what kind of
- 31:18Speaker 1: food and how it's eaten and ordered, or are you
- 31:20Speaker 1: OK to trust your friends and family to handle it?
- 31:23Speaker 1: Want to say good morning to Naomi. Morning, Sonia and Joakim.
- 31:26Speaker 1: I'm usually the kind of person who says, you guys
- 31:28Speaker 1: order for me, I trust you. So when I was
- 31:31Speaker 1: running late one day, I left my friends in charge
- 31:33Speaker 1: of my food. Big mistake. When I finally arrived, they
- 31:37Speaker 1: proudly told me they had
- 31:38Speaker 1: Ordered me pasta. I was so excited until I saw
- 31:41Speaker 1: the plate covered in a beautiful creamy sauce. I just
- 31:44Speaker 1: stared and asked, you guys, this is cream sauce, right?
- 31:47Speaker 1: The table went silent. Then someone slowly said, Oh, you
- 31:50Speaker 1: can't take milk. Lactose intolerant. Oh no. I couldn't stop
- 31:54Speaker 1: laughing because they had somehow forgotten the one thing I've
- 31:57Speaker 1: told them countless times. I ended up eating the safest
- 32:00Speaker 1: thing on the table.
- 32:01Speaker 1: While they enjoyed the creamy pasta. So yeah, I trust
- 32:04Speaker 1: my friends to order for me. Just maybe remind them
- 32:06Speaker 1: about the milk thing before I take the first bite. yeah, true, true.
- 32:09Speaker 1: Oh man, Naomi, so no, no carbonara for you. I mean, OK,
- 32:13Speaker 1: so that's the thing. I have a preference for tomato-based
- 32:16Speaker 1: pastas as well. Um, yeah, if we're doing a sharing situation,
- 32:19Speaker 1: you know, there can be one cream-based one, but I,
- 32:22Speaker 1: I will probably eat more of the tomato-based one.
- 32:24Speaker 1: So when it comes down to that, I feel like
- 32:26Speaker 1: I also don't want to come across like fussy. Like
- 32:28Speaker 1: if I'm not allergic or I'm not lactose intolerant, for example,
- 32:31Speaker 1: will I still just eat it? I might, you know,
- 32:33Speaker 1: was at Casa Vostra last night, the sausage pepper, very good,
- 32:37Speaker 1: and the broccolini. Oh, OK, so this one has nothing
- 32:41Speaker 1: to do with you as well. I will, I will.
- 32:43Speaker 1: I love my vegetables, OK, um.
- 32:46Speaker 1: That's it for now. We, uh, that's all the time
- 32:48Speaker 1: we have for your stories and your messages. When we
- 32:50Speaker 1: come back, one person walks away with this treat worth
- 32:53Speaker 1: almost $200 all thanks to One How Restaurant. Joakim just
- 32:57Speaker 1: run on out to, what is he doing actually? I
- 33:00Speaker 1: think he went to get some breakfast or something from
- 33:02Speaker 1: the vending machine, if I'm not wrong. I was leaning
- 33:04Speaker 1: out to see if he's still around, but anyway, I'll
- 33:06Speaker 1: do this one without him. So,
- 33:07Speaker 1: Just um on social media this morning, when I saw this,
- 33:12Speaker 1: I burst out laughing, absolutely burst out laughing. So you know,
- 33:16Speaker 1: it's F1 season and it's coming to Singapore very, very soon.
- 33:19Speaker 1: We're so excited because, you know, all your favorite drivers
- 33:21Speaker 1: are going to be here. There's going to be tons
- 33:22Speaker 1: of parties, activations, events. Um, drivers may just make their
- 33:26Speaker 1: appearances at some of these events too, if you're lucky
- 33:29Speaker 1: enough to catch them.
- 33:30Speaker 1: And um there was a clip here from an interaction
- 33:34Speaker 1: between Peggy Goo, the DJ whom you, you know, Peggy Go,
- 33:37Speaker 1: I mean, she's like a world-famous DJ at this point,
- 33:39Speaker 1: and uh the Ferrari team. So you've got Lewis Hamilton
- 33:43Speaker 1: and you've got Charles Leclerc behind the decks with Peggy Goo, OK?
- 33:48Speaker 1: And they're over at this event, the crowd is screaming
- 33:50Speaker 1: for them.
- 33:51Speaker 1: Um, they're just chilling out and supposedly Charles Leclerc is
- 33:55Speaker 1: like looking at the DJ deck being very curious, you know, and, uh,
- 34:00Speaker 1: Peggy Goo is like just showing them the ropes a
- 34:02Speaker 1: little bit. Oh, Joakim's back, by the way. She's showing
- 34:05Speaker 1: them the ropes and showing, uh, Charles Leclerc and Lewis
- 34:08Speaker 1: Hamilton how to press certain things or like this button
- 34:12Speaker 1: does what on the DJ set and all that, OK,
- 34:14Speaker 1: on the console. Very much a reminder for us to
- 34:16Speaker 1: just stick to our day jobs, yeah, and just don't
- 34:18Speaker 1: touch things, you know. Yeah. What's the Singaporean?
- 34:21Speaker 1: Uh, a phrase, see no touch, touch, no see, right.
- 34:25Speaker 1: So here's what happened. I'm just gonna play a clip
- 34:28Speaker 1: of it.
- 34:35Speaker 1: OK, what happened was that blasted off really loudly, by
- 34:38Speaker 1: the way, I already lowered the volume. All three of them, Peggy, Louis,
- 34:42Speaker 1: and Charles Leclerc got so shocked they immediately closed, uh,
- 34:45Speaker 1: shut their ears, right, because it blasted out really loudly.
- 34:49Speaker 1: And it was because Charles Leclerc go and press one button.
- 34:51Speaker 1: That's a 5 2nd penalty there for Charles Leclerc. That's
- 34:55Speaker 1: in the comment section as well, and he fired off
- 34:56Speaker 1: the hook of one of her songs, to which I
- 34:58Speaker 1: think they just burst out laughing and Lewis Hamilton laughs
- 35:01Speaker 1: and looks at the crowd and just goes like, sorry, sorry.
- 35:05Speaker 1: It's like Peggy Guo and Luo are like mom and dad. No,
- 35:08Speaker 1: Charles Leclerc is the guy that's like the kid pressing everything.
- 35:11Speaker 1: Charles Leclerc let his intrusive thoughts win that moment, you
- 35:14Speaker 1: know what, a relatable moment that we all laughed at,
- 35:17Speaker 1: and it just shows us that no matter who you are,
- 35:20Speaker 1: like you might still make some of these mistakes. Now
- 35:22Speaker 1: I'm just wondering what song was it from Peggy Goo
- 35:25Speaker 1: that he fired off. Could be Starry Night. It sounds
- 35:27Speaker 1: like doom doom doom doom doom doom doom doom doom
- 35:28Speaker 1: because the starting part is the clapping, yeah, OK.
- 35:34Speaker 1: There we go. Yeah, I think whatever we just did
- 35:36Speaker 1: does not sound at all like the actual song. I'm
- 35:38Speaker 1: taking you to, well, not exactly my hood directly, but very,
- 35:42Speaker 1: very nearby to the Joo Chit area right now. You're
- 35:45Speaker 1: familiar with Free Day, right? Once in a while it
- 35:49Speaker 1: takes place over at the CBD area. If I'm not wrong,
- 35:53Speaker 1: I think, you know, the Padang stretch around the Supreme
- 35:56Speaker 1: Court area. They usually close it off to cars and
- 35:58Speaker 1: let pedestrians just go and walk and enjoy themselves. I think.
- 36:02Speaker 1: This year for the very first time outside the main
- 36:05Speaker 1: area of Singapore, it's going to be taking place at
- 36:08Speaker 1: Joo Chiang. Welcome to East Coast. So it's along Dunman
- 36:12Speaker 1: Road and East Coast Road. It will be closed to
- 36:14Speaker 1: traffic from 3:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on October 3rd.
- 36:19Speaker 1: You've been warned a month ahead of time. Actually, you know, it's,
- 36:23Speaker 1: it's the perfect place to do something like that because
- 36:27Speaker 1: the whole East Coast area, right? Yeah, and I would
- 36:29Speaker 1: say specifically.
- 36:31Speaker 1: It has so much to experience and to offer. You know,
- 36:33Speaker 1: you've got your cafes, you've got your local food, you've
- 36:37Speaker 1: got restaurants, you've got um shops and a lot of
- 36:40Speaker 1: good Vietnamese food around there as well.
- 36:42Speaker 1: I, I've always wondered why they haven't done this sooner,
- 36:45Speaker 1: because you see plenty of people making the trek to
- 36:48Speaker 1: our East Coast area to walk around and experience the
- 36:50Speaker 1: whole place. So you can actually walk around or cycle,
- 36:55Speaker 1: but make sure you cycle safely, and I wonder whether
- 36:57Speaker 1: some of these stores are set up small stands like
- 37:00Speaker 1: giving you lemonade or like cool from the heat here
- 37:02Speaker 1: in Singapore, like a little taste test kind of thing,
- 37:04Speaker 1: or you know they say, hey, you get this, you
- 37:06Speaker 1: come in and you shop at our store, we give
- 37:07Speaker 1: you more discounts, right? Yeah, maybe, maybe I mean.
- 37:10Speaker 1: I'm excited to see how it goes because it could
- 37:12Speaker 1: really help with, uh, you know, footfall there, although it's
- 37:16Speaker 1: already really pretty popular place. I mean, you got loads
- 37:19Speaker 1: of very good again people who live in Jet who
- 37:21Speaker 1: are still in shape. How do you do it? Uh,
- 37:24Speaker 1: because you got two man bagel, you got all sorts
- 37:27Speaker 1: of puppies tacos, you got, uh, what, yeah, Italian Little greens,
- 37:34Speaker 1: it's called Little Farms, Little Farms Little greens.
- 37:39Speaker 1: Hey, you come to, yeah, and there's this very nice
- 37:44Speaker 1: English Bakute an English pub that has good Sunday roast.
- 37:47Speaker 1: It's quite near, um, awfully chocolate and that yoga studio.
- 37:51Speaker 1: It's the Ali Alibaba corner, right? Alibaba.
- 37:57Speaker 1: Correct. Is it Alibaba or Barba? Are you talking about
- 38:00Speaker 1: the same thing? It's about a 3 minute walk away
- 38:02Speaker 1: from the 5 chicken rice place. OK, I think we,
- 38:04Speaker 1: I think I know where you're talking about. Guinness pause
- 38:07Speaker 1: as well. Oh, nice. OK, well, hey, plenty to look
- 38:10Speaker 1: forward to. Not that I'm the official ambassador for East Coast,
- 38:13Speaker 1: but come, you will love it, and then you want
- 38:15Speaker 1: to stay there. Go, come on, you should be the
- 38:17Speaker 1: poster girl fort. I mean, I'm not exactly living in.
- 38:21Speaker 1: It's like maybe 8 minutes away from me because I'm
- 38:23Speaker 1: in like more Siglap area, but we are familiar with
- 38:26Speaker 1: the whole stretch because you know East Coast is pretty
- 38:28Speaker 1: big lah. So yeah, you've experienced it before. East Coast
- 38:31Speaker 1: after all that's right. So given how it's Teachers' Day
- 38:35Speaker 1: tomorrow and most schools today might be having their Teachers'
- 38:38Speaker 1: Day celebrations and perhaps early dismissal, yeah, perhaps, and tomorrow
- 38:43Speaker 1: you mentioned is a public holiday for them, not public holidays.
- 38:46Speaker 1: School holiday sorry, sorry, school holiday. That's what I meant. Yeah,
- 38:49Speaker 1: but others still come to work like us, you know
- 38:51Speaker 1: what I mean? Yes, yes. So teacher from Saint Anthony's,
- 38:54Speaker 1: do you want to give a shout out to anyone? Um, OK,
- 38:56Speaker 1: I would say several teachers, but one of the teachers
- 39:00Speaker 1: that actually was so kind to me, um, in a
- 39:03Speaker 1: subject that was terrible at math, OK, Mrs. Heng, I
- 39:07Speaker 1: just want to say hi to her. I don't know
- 39:08Speaker 1: if she's still there. Yeah, I don't know if she's
- 39:10Speaker 1: still there.
- 39:10Speaker 1: But she never quite gave up on us, even though
- 39:13Speaker 1: a math was really difficult and I almost wanted to
- 39:15Speaker 1: give up and drop the subject, honestly, yeah, so shout
- 39:18Speaker 1: shout out to her. So that said, aside from teachers
- 39:20Speaker 1: in schools, maybe your favorite yoga teacher, teacher, your gym trainer,
- 39:26Speaker 1: it counts as them teaching you something and making sure
- 39:29Speaker 1: you have good discipline to stay fit and active. So
- 39:33Speaker 1: everyone on leave tomorrow.
- 39:35Speaker 1: I mean, look, if your parents are your life teachers,
- 39:38Speaker 1: then they should also get a day off. I mean,
- 39:40Speaker 1: I've thanked my favorite teachers from Choon Secondary School many times.
- 39:43Speaker 1: So I think for today I want to thank my
- 39:46Speaker 1: gym trainer, whose name is Jim. Yeah, I know. I
- 39:49Speaker 1: always find that hilarious, by the way. I go to
- 39:51Speaker 1: Jim's gym. There you go. OK, who's now become a
- 39:55Speaker 1: very good friend of mine. Never gets old. On that note,
- 39:57Speaker 1: we're gonna hand you over to.
- 39:59Speaker 1: Nicole, and we'll catch you tomorrow at 6 a.m. Yeah,
- 40:03Speaker 1: so if anyone's awake, we're here with you tomorrow. Uh,
- 40:07Speaker 1: speaking of which, we are considering moving our little Cheers
- 40:11Speaker 1: Breakfast Club bundle giveaway to slightly later so that we'll
- 40:14Speaker 1: get more of you, you know, up and awake first
- 40:16Speaker 1: so you get a chance to call in and win.
- 40:18Speaker 1: And speaking of that, if you're in primary 6 and
- 40:20Speaker 1: coming down to Ang Mo Kio Hub in a bit,
- 40:22Speaker 1: I'll see you there. Yeah, I will catch you tomorrow
- 40:24Speaker 1: at 6:00 a.m.
