- 0:00Speaker 1: Time now for back to the basics and healthcare with
- 0:02Speaker 1: balanced Life Chiropractic. We're here with doctor Harley. Hello, doctor Harley,
- 0:05Speaker 1: how are you, hey, John?
- 0:06Speaker 2: I'm doing great.
- 0:07Speaker 1: We are almost into June. I can't believe that. So,
- 0:10Speaker 1: like next time we talk, it's going to be June.
- 0:11Speaker 1: It'll be after a Memorial Day. I mean, we were
- 0:13Speaker 1: cruising right into summer. And this is a time of
- 0:16Speaker 1: year when it feels like if you drive by any
- 0:18Speaker 1: baseball field or soccer field, or basketball court or tennis court,
- 0:23Speaker 1: there's like people out there doing sports all the time,
- 0:26Speaker 1: and from time to time, people will have a little
- 0:28Speaker 1: bit of a sports injury. And that is kind of
- 0:30Speaker 1: how you actually got involved in chiropractic in the first place,
- 0:33Speaker 1: isn't it.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Yeah, you remember I do. Yeah. I was a big
- 0:36Speaker 2: athlete through high school and even into college, so I
- 0:39Speaker 2: dealt with a lot of sports injuries, mainly lower like
- 0:42Speaker 2: ankles and knees.
- 0:43Speaker 1: And you were a bull rider, right, just kidding, because
- 0:47Speaker 1: I remember what you were. I just thought I would
- 0:49Speaker 1: throw that little again just to be salling. But let's
- 0:53Speaker 1: talk about the type of injury that you had.
- 0:55Speaker 2: Yeah, so I had an ankle injury, in softball. That
- 0:58Speaker 2: was the main one that really got me in sitting chiropractic.
- 1:02Speaker 2: Junior year of high school, playing were I was rounding
- 1:05Speaker 2: third base to go home and I remember stepping on
- 1:08Speaker 2: the base wrong and I actually sprained it inside and
- 1:11Speaker 2: outside my ankle, you know, kind of twisted both ways.
- 1:15Speaker 2: So that's a pretty major injury. Lettlone, spraining your ankle
- 1:17Speaker 2: one way right, and at the time, you know, you're
- 1:21Speaker 2: only thinking about getting back into playing. Like for Iowa,
- 1:24Speaker 2: the spring like end of May was like beginning of
- 1:27Speaker 2: our softball season, so that was the very beginning of
- 1:30Speaker 2: the season. To get injured, and you know, it's kind
- 1:32Speaker 2: of like, oh man, I don't want to deal with it.
- 1:34Speaker 2: So I was going to the chiropractor. What I would have,
- 1:37Speaker 2: you know, aches or pain. So I wasn't going really regularly,
- 1:39Speaker 2: but I went to the chiropractor that week. My parents
- 1:42Speaker 2: were kind of mean and made me walk on it again.
- 1:44Speaker 2: At the time, great because I was playing in a
- 1:47Speaker 2: week after this ankle injury, getting chiropractic, getting it, getting
- 1:51Speaker 2: it adjusted, walking on it, not babying it. Great now,
- 1:56Speaker 2: looking back on it from like you know, the doctor
- 1:58Speaker 2: lens of things, like probably not the best. I'm sure
- 2:00Speaker 2: I very damaged my ankle. It needed time to rest.
- 2:05Speaker 2: But so now you know, I still have ankle injuries
- 2:07Speaker 2: from time to time. It's definitely something you know, doing
- 2:09Speaker 2: more keeping up with like PT work, stretching exercises can
- 2:12Speaker 2: help with managing that. But so if you're a parent
- 2:15Speaker 2: and you're listening to this, you're like, oh, well, my
- 2:17Speaker 2: child just got injured. You know, we didn't really know
- 2:19Speaker 2: what to do. Should we go to the urgent care
- 2:21Speaker 2: Should we go to the chiropractor pt I always think
- 2:24Speaker 2: chiropractor is a great place to start for sprains and
- 2:27Speaker 2: strains like that. Obviously, if they've a broken bone or
- 2:30Speaker 2: a torn you know, ACL or something, definitely go to
- 2:34Speaker 2: urgent care er. Do not come into my office with those.
- 2:37Speaker 2: But yeah, like a simple sprain or strain, definitely we
- 2:40Speaker 2: can assess it if the joint needs to go back
- 2:42Speaker 2: into place. So in the case of my ankle, it
- 2:45Speaker 2: needed to go back into its proper alignment for it
- 2:48Speaker 2: to move properly. So if it had healed and I
- 2:50Speaker 2: hadn't gotten adjusted, my ankle problems would have been way
- 2:53Speaker 2: worse because nothing would have been moving like it was
- 2:56Speaker 2: supposed to. It would still be in the out of
- 2:58Speaker 2: alignment part of that injury.
- 3:01Speaker 1: So it's it's a good first step, and it might
- 3:03Speaker 1: be the only step. If you come in here and
- 3:05Speaker 1: and this is something that you can fix with chiropractic,
- 3:08Speaker 1: why wouldn't you start there?
- 3:10Speaker 2: You know, all of y'all don't think about it. You know,
- 3:12Speaker 2: I was going to the chiropractor a lot through high school,
- 3:14Speaker 2: just for sports. So my parents already were like, Okay,
- 3:16Speaker 2: we're going to take you the chiropractor, not the medical
- 3:18Speaker 2: doctor or the urgent. Can we you the chiropractor, get
- 3:21Speaker 2: adjusted and see what they have to say, because we
- 3:23Speaker 2: do a test and assessment, so if we do identify
- 3:25Speaker 2: that there is a tear, then we can actually send
- 3:28Speaker 2: you to the next step.
- 3:30Speaker 1: So if it's a muscle thing and not a joint thing.
- 3:32Speaker 2: Right or I mean like an ACL tear or something
- 3:34Speaker 2: like that, if you have ligaments are strained or sprained,
- 3:38Speaker 2: or if the joints out of a lane and just
- 3:40Speaker 2: needs an adjustment, you know a lot of hims that
- 3:41Speaker 2: can help clear up that injury a lot faster versus
- 3:44Speaker 2: if you know, you just go in a boot and crutches.
- 3:47Speaker 1: Very nice, and again that was a sports injury. That
- 3:50Speaker 1: was softball, but I was being silly when I said
- 3:53Speaker 1: bull riding. But somebody could probably put their back out
- 3:56Speaker 1: or do something with that or plan if they're playing
- 3:59Speaker 1: any kind of what you can think of. There's you know,
- 4:01Speaker 1: when you're doing sports, there's a lot of physical activity
- 4:04Speaker 1: and that's where something could get jostled and there could
- 4:06Speaker 1: be an issue.
- 4:06Speaker 2: Right, So you know, having a chiropractor in mind when
- 4:09Speaker 2: you or your child get injured is never a bad thing.
- 4:12Speaker 2: You know, It's a good place to start if you
- 4:15Speaker 2: aren't sure what the next step is because we can
- 4:17Speaker 2: all we can assess you see what's going on, and
- 4:20Speaker 2: if it's something we can take care of in the
- 4:22Speaker 2: office and we can do that. If it's somewhere okay,
- 4:24Speaker 2: we need to send you out for more stuff, then
- 4:26Speaker 2: we can do that.
- 4:27Speaker 1: And I'm not a real sports related gain. I don't
- 4:29Speaker 1: even watch it on TV. But here's where I'm at
- 4:32Speaker 1: in my life. I'm fifty and now I can literally
- 4:35Speaker 1: hurt my back like sneezing, So that's yeah.
- 4:38Speaker 2: I mean, there's the weekend Warrior projects that you can
- 4:41Speaker 2: you know, throw your back out something like that.
- 4:44Speaker 1: What happened, John? Do you hit by a truck. Now
- 4:45Speaker 1: I sneezed, and now I have to I can't wait
- 4:47Speaker 1: till let go see doctor Harley help me get back
- 4:49Speaker 1: in shape.
- 4:50Speaker 2: Yeah, there's never a bad time to see a chiropractor.
- 4:52Speaker 2: I would say, of course, been going to a chiropractor
- 4:54Speaker 2: before an injury is a great thing because if you
- 4:57Speaker 2: do have a tweak or sprain, you can recall a
- 5:00Speaker 2: lot faster because you're already in proper alignment, your nervous
- 5:03Speaker 2: stems functioning better. We've talked a lot about.
- 5:05Speaker 1: Oh yeah, and Heidi and I both have mentioned that
- 5:07Speaker 1: that is the way it is now because in the
- 5:09Speaker 1: past this spring, as we were getting the yard ready
- 5:12Speaker 1: and the things that we're doing, you know, we're kind
- 5:14Speaker 1: of dragging for a day or two. But boy, in
- 5:16Speaker 1: the past, if we hadn't been going to see a
- 5:18Speaker 1: chiropractor on a regular basis, that would have been a
- 5:20Speaker 1: week or two instead of a day or two.
- 5:22Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, So it's your body heals much better when
- 5:25Speaker 2: you are under chiropractic.
- 5:26Speaker 1: Here, if somebody listening is going, Okay, this is something
- 5:29Speaker 1: I'm interested in for me or for my kiddos. What
- 5:31Speaker 1: is the best first step to come in and see
- 5:34Speaker 1: you at Balanced Life Chiropractic.
- 5:36Speaker 2: First step is a schedule a new patient appointment. So
- 5:38Speaker 2: the way we can make sure to take our time

- 5:44Speaker 2: you know, giving you all of our time versus you
- 5:47Speaker 2: know someone walking in like well, we're going to schedule
- 5:49Speaker 2: you for a different day. So as simple as giving
