- 0:00What's going on, everybody, and what's going on, folks? Welcome to the Deconstructed Top Podcast.
- 0:05I like to do a little bit of animation here going on because we got the New
- 0:10York Knicks on game one tonight. We're making it happen.
- 0:14It's going to be real quick, real short, because I'm kind of like running out
- 0:17of time. The Knicks game is tonight.
- 0:19I'm trying to get a little bit of saucy too, you know what I mean?
- 0:22And trying to enjoy the night as well. Responsibility, we got the Knicks game
- 0:26one. my finals breakdown, or at least game one breakdown.
- 0:30We make it happen to New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs.
- 0:34I know some people like to say it is a beat match of the 1999 NBA finals where
- 0:40we got, that's all I can say.
- 0:44Dave Robinson and Tim Duncan, what a beast. But you know what?
- 0:48This year is different because none of those players probably existed at that time.
- 0:54No, but more or less, it is something that, hey, listen, you know, two teams play.
- 0:59Can this be the repeat, or can the Knicks just be like, you know what?
- 1:03We need to get this championship for the New York City and all those Knicks
- 1:08fans across the city, across the boroughs, Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Staten Island,
- 1:14excuse me, Queens, and all that, and across the nation, and across the world,
- 1:18because Knicks Nation, we already here.
- 1:20We making it happen. I mean, that's what I'm talking about because,
- 1:22hey, listen, I'm a wrestling guy.
- 1:24And these next team right now, we are playing with Cero.
- 1:29Let's go. We make it happen. It's going to be a good one. I mean,
- 1:32you know, real quick, we got Bronson and all that.
- 1:35They's having to have won a championship in 1973.
- 1:39We got Jalen Bronson late in New York. Then we got Victor Wemba. Oyama Wemby.
- 1:46Toe Du, Young Du, 7'5", players like he, owns the whole court.
- 1:54I can't really say much about him. And, wow, it should be very interesting.
- 2:00And this is our finals matchup. Again, we're going to bring it up to 1999.
- 2:03I know that a couple of people say, come on, David, that's not a rematch.
- 2:08But, you know, again, in the scope of sports, sometimes they are franchised
- 2:13that tend to play and play and play in the finals because that builds those
- 2:18kind of rivalries in the future.
- 2:20And obviously in the NBA, we got the Boston Celtics and the LA Lakers.
- 2:27Hey, listen, that's what's going on. So it's going to be like kind of like a
- 2:30superstar type of field energy throughout San Antonio.
- 2:35So I get it. You know what I mean? And, yeah, listen, New York things,
- 2:39we've been playing on a 11-game playoff win streak ever since we lost game four,
- 2:45like, against Atlanta in the first round.
- 2:47And I, myself, was like, this can't be. Am I bugging or what's...
- 2:54Going on with that, you know, we fire Tom Thibodeau last year for this and Mike
- 3:00Brown and all that, and then, you know, to say, hey, listen,
- 3:03there's a reason the echoes of Mass Square Garden just rose up and say,
- 3:08you got this, New York, because the fact is that we lost those couple of games
- 3:13against Atlanta a little bit close, so we kind of just said, you know what?
- 3:17I'm dialed up. I often have said when it comes to the New York Knicks,
- 3:20For some reason, they tend to last year and the last couple of years switch on.
- 3:25Twitch switch on. On and off. On and off. On and off.
- 3:28And then this year, we kind of been doing it the same. But now we collective
- 3:32have the good players coming from the bench, Bronxin, Bridges.
- 3:37Oh, man. What can I say? Cat and all those people. Now we got that switch on and just leave it on.
- 3:44Even if we get electrocuted. No, no, no funny stuff. But I'm just saying it
- 3:49should be a good one. But you know what?
- 3:51San Antonio, despite the fact
- 3:54that they went to Game 7, they beat the defending champion OKC Thunder.
- 4:00And really, OKC, they give it all. Hey, they are the defending champion after all. But let's see.
- 4:07But let's see, you know, history have shown that the team that comes here with
- 4:12the most rest is the team that wins.
- 4:14You might say, OK, San Antonio probably has three or four days less to rest
- 4:20than the New York things.
- 4:21But you might say, listen, David, when it comes to that, these are young cats out there.
- 4:25You know what I mean? These are not crazy plays over the age of 30.
- 4:30I mean, for the most part, these are still young cats, so they're going to recover.
- 4:33But once again, sometimes that energy, because keep in mind,
- 4:37even though San Antonio might have rested, and even though, but the fact is
- 4:42this, resting is resting, but you still have to practice.
- 4:48Practice? Somewhere about practice? No, no. But I mean, you have to.
- 4:53So the thing is that the Knicks need to kind of continue that momentum.
- 4:57We need to kind of continue, continue, continue.
- 5:00Turn, leave that light on. You know what I mean? leave it all,
- 5:04leave that on, especially Bronson and all those cats.
- 5:07The Spurs? They think.
- 5:11You know, because even though the Spurs is the number two best team in the league,
- 5:17the fact that you have like 62 wins or whatever wins, 61, 62,
- 5:22the fact that you're still number two, any other NBA season you'd be at number
- 5:26one, they're playing with a ship on the shoulder to say we're the best.
- 5:29We're not just the best in the West, but we're the best in the whole NBA.
- 5:35Can this be something? Can the Spurs be that team that this can't be the beginning
- 5:41of the dynasty? See, I'm hoping not because my Knicks, can this be the beginning
- 5:45of a little dynasty or good run?
- 5:47Absolutely. Absolutely. So, you know, we got a couple of key matchups.
- 5:52And one of the things is that it comes down to what exactly?
- 5:55Brunson and Wemby. I'm just saying, even though one is a guard,
- 5:59small dude, you know, Brunson ain't, with all due respect, with the title being small guy. Come on, man.
- 6:07Stop playing, Becky Hammond. Relax out there. Brunson knows how to play.
- 6:11And Wemby, you know, Wemby, even though despite the fact that people covered
- 6:16him back in whatever he was doing in Europe, the fact is this.
- 6:20You know, a lot of people kind of say, you know, he could be like a little Kevin
- 6:23Durant, you know, a little bit too slim for the NBA, but the fact is this.
- 6:28Durant, he have had a successful NBA career, despite his length,
- 6:33I mean, his stature, very, you know, slim in the body, you know what I mean?
- 6:38But the fact that they, you know, they bang hard.
- 6:42And they're like, these people just disappear through the sun or something like
- 6:46that, through the wind. I'm like, no, they play hard.
- 6:48So one of the things is that, hey, we need to control the tempo.
- 6:53And Bronson is that dude that, you know, his father played with the Knicks.
- 6:57He was drafted by the Knicks.
- 6:58So he comes from that basketball lineage of something.
- 7:01You know what I'm saying? Shout out to his pops and his parents out there.
- 7:05So he, since a young age, you know, he probably picked up a Christmas present
- 7:11that was all basketballs.
- 7:13No funny stuff. All balls. You know what I mean?
- 7:16He's like, hey, that, that, you know, been around players, been around the fact
- 7:22that he was he around the 1999 Knicks?
- 7:25The fact that this young fella has been around basketball he's smelly,
- 7:30he's sensey he's like a Spider-Man slash Wolverine of whatever it is,
- 7:35he the dude is basketball and Wemby, huh,
- 7:40What the hell he came from? Again, you know, historically speaking,
- 7:45most 7 feet players, 7 feet, 7'2", 7'3", who are a bit on the slimmer side,
- 7:51hey, listen, he's young, so this is his second year.
- 7:55But the fact that sometimes they tend to be a little bit fresher and a little
- 8:00bit nimble on the feet, but Wambi, I'm telling you, Wambi's a different beast.
- 8:05So that's all I can say, because Wambi could just put in some 20-plus points.
- 8:09He's going to get 10 rebounds just.
- 8:13Just putting his hand out that's it he don't even need to jump and he could
- 8:18just hit blocks like poof I mean again he doesn't even need to jump he just
- 8:24goes like that you know remember the camera no no no not in my house,
- 8:29well we could just do that but just with a pinky be like,
- 8:34no not here but that's when with that French accent.
- 8:40But the fact that the Knicks need to kind of be physical here.
- 8:47Cat Robinson, who's hurt with the pinky, maybe, you know, let's see.
- 8:51But the fact that the Knicks need to be a little bit physical, especially with Wemby.
- 8:55Now, I know that Wemby's a little bit fast, and he could just do something like that.
- 9:00But, I mean, you know, sometimes in the NBA, we might allow certain plays.
- 9:08I'm over here winking, but we might allow a couple plays here and there.
- 9:11You know, I'm not trying to say hurt the kid. I'm just saying that play physical.
- 9:16Despite that he is young, I mean, again, he got 7'5", or something that you could just, you know.
- 9:24Play some physical. The Spurs, they do tend to play a lot of the pace. They tend to relax.
- 9:30They tend to play a little bit old school. Their former coach,
- 9:32Greg Popovich, one of the greatest of all time, tends to kind of play big.
- 9:38No funny stuff. But the fact that, you know, the Spurs have had a history,
- 9:42the team that was that franchise, that team that was that destiny to have dynasty,
- 9:48I'm sorry, to be that right there, whatever it is,
- 9:52you know, it was David Ronson and Tim Duncan and Tim Duncan and,
- 9:55you know, fast forward, you know, during Devin Robinson once he retired,
- 10:00the fact that the Spurs play big, they play to a pace that surrounds the center.
- 10:04So that's going to be Wemby. So that's going to be Wemby.
- 10:08So the Knicks need to, despite that we outpaced, we need to,
- 10:13you know, let the captain, let Bronson just focus on whatever it is,
- 10:20defense, rebound, you grab it, you know, and make sure that when you shoot the
- 10:24ball, make sure that Cat is playing outside so that Wambi might not be in the perimeter.
- 10:30Because if we could just take Wambi off the rim, we could just probably do some work.
- 10:35You know, just focus on that defense for the Spurs. I say, listen,
- 10:38they probably wouldn't match up well against the Knicks.
- 10:42Run, run, run. And the fact that they're a young team, a young team,
- 10:46so their energy is going to be elevated, like pow, pow, pow,
- 10:50pow, pow. They're going to do some crazy stuff.
- 10:52Oh, there you go. Oh, there you go.
- 10:56So I'm just saying, I mean, as far as the Knicks, even though we got a couple
- 11:00of more of the experience plays in terms of age,
- 11:04in terms of been there, done that, But I think that that's one thing that we
- 11:08might forget, even though the Spurs is that this team, but the fact that Ninks
- 11:13in the last couple of years, we've been there.
- 11:16You know, the fact that we played Sam, you know, we got bumped last year against
- 11:20the Indiana Pacers. They went to the finals.
- 11:22You know, they lost that NBA final through the OKC Thunder.
- 11:26But the fact that we played that team, you know, we've done that thing with Boston.
- 11:33You know, we bang hard with Boston, with Detroit. Hey, listen,
- 11:36Detroit, it's a great team. They just happened to fall short.
- 11:39And, you know, for Draymond Green to say, well, in the East,
- 11:43you know, whatever the case might be, this is the chance for the Knicks.
- 11:46Because the fact is this, we've been in that little pool of whatever nonsense.
- 11:52That you might say, oh, garbage teams in the East.
- 11:54The fact that here in the West, again, youth is youth with San Sonia,
- 11:59but they had experience with the Knicks.
- 12:01Hey, we got that little matchup going on.
- 12:05In regards to, look, and the devil, Ken Anthony and Bridges...
- 12:10And all that good stuff, you know, we're going to play against the young players.
- 12:14And I think that if we get on this little big lead, let's say Wemby gets into
- 12:23like little fire troubles or something to that effect, I think that the young
- 12:27players might be rattled.
- 12:29And I think that this is the perfect example, wherever Wemby goes,
- 12:33the young players will follow.
- 12:35So if Wambi's a little bit rattled, not playing well, missing his shots,
- 12:40taking wild shots, or whatever the case might be, I think that's going to be an issue.
- 12:45So I think, you know, that young core of the Spurs team, you just got to keep watching it.
- 12:54Because, again, bridges and towns and so on and so forth don't mind me.
- 12:59I'm just a little bit over here like me, me, me, me. Did a lot of networking
- 13:04today, a lot of podcasting.
- 13:06So in the last 24-7, because we got, go New York, go New York, go.
- 13:12So game one is going to be about, you know, you're going to have the feel,
- 13:15the nerves, and so on and so forth.
- 13:18But I think this Knicks team, again, as a Knicks fan, Knicks team,
- 13:24they're together. So they feed off each other.
- 13:27The fact that against the Cavaliers in game one, that we was down like by 20
- 13:32points or whatever case with eight minutes, seven minutes.
- 13:36The fact that we were just focused and prunching stuff up and talking about
- 13:40the guys like, hey, come on.
- 13:42Come on, let's go. We just came off a big win, destroying, demolishing team.
- 13:47And guess what? The niggas just turning up.
- 13:53And they just looked hard on that sweep on the basis of that fourth quarter.
- 13:58So that's going to be definitely interesting.
- 14:01It's going to be Sanso again Sanso even though they had the home call advantage,
- 14:07And they favorite on this one because of the home court and because of the best
- 14:13record or whatever it is.
- 14:15You know, the Knicks kind of match up good. They kind of match up.
- 14:19And then, you know, we had the NBA Cup situation going on early in the year.
- 14:23Again, it was months ago.
- 14:25San Antonio is a much better team. But I'm going to say that the Knicks are
- 14:30a much better team since then. Especially in the last couple of weeks,
- 14:34we've been just in that trajectory.
- 14:39It's a shame by one of my favorite wrestlers right now, Jacob Fatou,
- 14:44let's go, is that, hey, listen.
- 14:46What's that saying that he goes? All gas, no breaks, basically.
- 14:52Something to that effect. It's a nod that, hey, listen, you just going.
- 14:56You ain't stopping. And I think that the next, for this game,
- 15:00to set the setting, you start wherever you finish in game four.
- 15:07Just use that extra energy because you got to keep in mind is this you got to
- 15:12test the San Antonio Spurs if they really tired tired tired and then they haven't gotten full rest,
- 15:18then do you test them out because you're supposed to be the team that has the
- 15:21most rest and you knock them on the boom you knock them right there boom boom boom boom boom,
- 15:28do a couple of things there you just want to kind of get that feel and that's
- 15:32what I say I understand that game one is kind of like that boxing fight.
- 15:37You want to get the feels, but at the same time, you know what?
- 15:40Just relax. Just go crazy.
- 15:43Push the tempo. Go on a 10-0 run or whatever the case, opening the first five minutes.
- 15:50If I see that the Knicks are winning like 20-8 or something like that,
- 15:54and that tempo, I think you got to be, I'm not going to say I think.
- 15:59I believe San Antonio would be a little bit rattled.
- 16:02Tired, yes. How can they overcome their tiredness with youth? So props to that.
- 16:08Should be an interesting first half. And then, you know, I'm pretty sure that
- 16:12Santonio is going to be kind of, you got Greg Popovich, even though he's not
- 16:16the coach, he's out there somewhere watching.
- 16:19I'm pretty sure he's going to tell them, hey, listen, just relax.
- 16:22But I'm going to say that if the Knicks start with that run,
- 16:26a 28, you know, 20-8 run or whatever the case might be, Yeah,
- 16:32I think that's going to be the difference.
- 16:34But if it's me, you already know. I'm ready for New York, and we're making it happen on game one.
- 16:41We got to push that tempo. We got to just continue, continue to put that press
- 16:46the way we've been doing it against the Cavaliers, against the Sixers,
- 16:50against Atlanta in the last three games.
- 16:54Just go all crazy, 100 miles per hour, nonstop, because we got to bring that
- 16:59orange and blue skies all the way to San Antonio, Texas.
- 17:03People are gonna say oh it's antonio texas remember the alamo remember
- 17:06the nicks that's for sure but anyways hit up
- 17:09the uh like button feel free to comment let me know who you're going for or
