- 0:06[SPEAKER_01]: Hi, I'm Connor Jones, I'm Mike Atama-Sella, and this is Culture Brief, a Dinnison Foreign Podcast where we navigate the cost and stream of top stories and news, politics, sports, pop culture, technology, and we do it all from a crisp perspective.
- 0:18[SPEAKER_01]: And Mike, I just got a breaking news alert that the Dallas Cowboys have traded deck press got to the Arizona Cardinals.
- 0:23[SPEAKER_01]: It's a good thing I remembered to say it for a fulls day.
- 0:24[SPEAKER_00]: How did that?
- 0:25[SPEAKER_00]: This silence.
- 0:25[SPEAKER_00]: I looked at me like, oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, oh my god,
- 0:31[SPEAKER_00]: for who yeah, it's it that's good.
- 0:33[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, did you just come up with that in the moment?
- 0:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_01]: Well, like you play on the right hit the record button.
- 0:38[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, okay, I got to think of something to throw you off here on April.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_00]: Well, what's interesting about that is you didn't say what we were getting back, but also you picked the airs on a cardinals.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_00]: And I was like, I don't think there's
- 0:49[SPEAKER_00]: anybody on that team I'd want like over deck and I'm not even I'm not even like the biggest deck press got fan like I do I do love deck but he hasn't been successful in the playoffs and so that's how he should be judged but anyway go cowboy.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_01]: I thought of the cardinals because they need a quarterback so I was like they they could make a trade you know
- 1:08[SPEAKER_00]: So we are recording on Wednesday April 1st April fools this episode will be released on Thursday April 2nd.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_00]: So April fools will be old news at that point.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_00]: That would actually be a fun thing is please send us in to our email and to our DMs.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe one of your greatest April fools jokes recently or a long time ago a prank you played or something that was played on you and let us know about that.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I would love that.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_01]: Michael, what else?
- 1:36[SPEAKER_01]: I think we got a loaded week, right?
- 1:38[SPEAKER_01]: There's so much that's happening.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_01]: So we're going to cover a lot.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_00]: What are we talking about today?
- 1:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we're talking about Alan Richson.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_00]: We're talking about March madness.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_00]: We're talking about the Artemis moon launch.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_00]: We're talking about TMZ Congress picks.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_00]: We're talking about Gary Woodland and Tiger Woods and so much more.
- 1:52[SPEAKER_00]: So let's jump into the brief.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_00]: Again, we apologize for that short side of joke that Connor made there that delayed us a little bit.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_00]: So here's the first thing that we're going to talk about.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to talk about Alan Richardson.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_00]: Connor, do you know who Alan Richardson is?
- 2:11[SPEAKER_00]: Corridor, yes, you can't miss him.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_01]: Just a walking giant of a human.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_00]: Starring literature.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_00]: Absolute unit.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_00]: So Alan Richardson's best known for playing Jack Reacher.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_00]: in hit series, Reacher.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_00]: So he went viral this week after a video surfaced of him writing through his neighborhood on motorcycle.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_00]: So he's on a normal size motorcycle in his kids.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's his two sons are behind him on smaller motorbikes.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_00]: And the video shows him throwing punches at his neighbor.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_00]: It blew up.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_00]: It was everywhere.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_00]: So the first video that came out was from a neighbor filming from a second story.
- 2:46[SPEAKER_00]: And then it seemed like Alan Richardson had some sort of recording
- 2:51[SPEAKER_00]: And so then that, recording, released a couple days later, which gave even more clarity, and part of why people care it is because they weren't just reacting to an actor in a neighborhood fight, although that is not every day news.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_00]: They were reacting to the idea of Reacher in a neighborhood fight.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_00]: Right, like this guy, I mean, just look him up, just, I mean, truly, it's about as big as a human being can get.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_00]: And he plays Jack Reacher, who is,
- 3:18[SPEAKER_00]: just the most skilled like take you out in 10 seconds.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_00]: And so because of who this guy on screen is, it is basically unstoppable.
- 3:27[SPEAKER_00]: He's calm, he's controlled, he's highly skilled in the show, right?
- 3:32[SPEAKER_00]: And so the kind of character who ends up in a fight and then, you know, as I said, it ends in three seconds.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_00]: And so here's what actually happened, right?
- 3:38[SPEAKER_00]: So Richson was writing his motorbike with his kids in the neighborhood when the neighbor confronted him about speed and noise.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_00]: The neighbor stepped into the street, blocked him, and looked like kind of shoved him, and Alan Richardson, reach her, fell off his bike.
- 3:53[SPEAKER_00]: That's when things escalated and turned physical.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_00]: All right, police reviewed the video and witnessed accounts and ruled itself defense and no charges were filed, right?
- 4:03[SPEAKER_00]: But basically,
- 4:05[SPEAKER_00]: The neighbor steps in front kind of shoves him.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_00]: He falls off the bike in front of his kids, reach her then, Alan richs and then kind of throws a few punches at him, tells him to stay down.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_00]: And so Alan richs in a couple days later, he posted on social media and he said, he didn't say anything publicly other than this, never interrupt your enemy when he's making a mistake.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_00]: which was interesting because it's like it's he is he admitting that he was making a mistake by by being loud in his neighborhood and like writing motorcycles.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_00]: But either way, you know, the context as him and his neighbor I guess were enemies in that situation and he was interrupted while he was or was not making a mistake and then it ended up in that guy getting beat up, but maybe not as bad as people would have expected.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_00]: Connor what what were your initial reactions to all this when it came out and who's in the right here?
- 4:55[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know who's in the right.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I do know this.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_01]: The neighbor who came out and stopped him on his bike.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_01]: It was kind of dangerous.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_01]: He stopped him as he was moving could have easily caused a bigger.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_01]: accident involved with kids.
- 5:06[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's why Richardson was so mad, but it's just the irony of like man.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_01]: You're going to pick a fight with the one guy who the the whole nation knows is this massive human being in a fighter.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_01]: And do you remember in the 2000s there was the Jack Richard movies that came out with Tom Cruise?
- 5:20[SPEAKER_01]: Of course.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_01]: and they were good movies, but the idea of Tom Cruise being like, you know, he's known for being short.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_01]: And that was kind of always the, the, the, the, the, the get him being the reacher character.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_01]: So when Amazon started the show reacher, they were like, we got to find the exact opposite of Tom Cruise.
- 5:35[SPEAKER_01]: And they found a perfect guy.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_01]: They found this dude who's just a he's the giant perfect for the role.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_01]: He could play Goliath and like a David and Goliath thing.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you know that kind of that kind of guy in this neighbors like let me Let me choose that guy to pick a fight with and they're like Tustlin man.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_01]: They're like punching and Tustlin on the ground is crazy and this guy now are just sitting on their bikes watching like yeah dad take him out
- 5:56[SPEAKER_00]: I know and like so like even though even though like Alan Richardson looks the part and plays it well this it was just it struck me like this wasn't a choreographed scene like we're used to see him in seeing him in it was a it was like a very real moment where he was with his kids where he felt threatened in some way whatever it might be.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_00]: I think cooler heads could have prevailed in that situation, but I mean, I kind of go back and forth there on exactly how that should have been handled.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so that's that's the first thing that kind of happened.
- 6:23[SPEAKER_00]: I just wanted to cover that.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_00]: The second thing I want to talk about is March Madness.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_00]: All right, so March Madness has been going on and we're down to the final four now, Connor Jones.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_00]: or through the Elite 8, the Final Four tips this weekend and the National Championship is early next week.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_00]: One of the biggest reasons people are still talking about this tournament and talking about it even more is what you can just did to Duke my brother.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_00]: So Yukon was down 19 in this game, looked finished for long stretches and then freshman.
- 6:55[SPEAKER_00]: A freshman guy, by the name of Braille and Mullins, hit a 35 foot buzzer beater to win at 73 to 72.
- 7:04[SPEAKER_00]: Duke had the ball, Yukon stole it with about 10 seconds left.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_00]: dribbled, dribbled, point three seconds on the clock is left after he nails that shot, Duke doesn't have time to get another shot off, and you can wins.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_00]: It was like one of the greatest moments in March madness history, obviously.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_00]: And a 35 foot buzzer beater is like close to half court by the way.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_00]: Well, well, beyond the three point line, just for reference.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_00]: But what made it even harder for you, confans is the is the history behind it, but also I think it made it more beautiful for the you, confans because it felt like, um, I don't know, like justice.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_00]: So a lot of people immediately thought that to 1992, when, uh, because there's a lot of history behind this, when Duke's Christian Latiner hit that famous game winner against UConn, a shot that became one of the most defining moments like the greatest buzzer beater in March Madness history.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_00]: Well, that was in 1992, Duke did it to UConn in the now in 2026.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_00]: The second greatest to maybe
- 8:13[SPEAKER_00]: how poetic is that so it wasn't it wasn't just like a dramatic win for a lot of people it felt like a full circle moment of like justice and that's what makes March madness different right is like I know that players are getting paid these days but there is a special passion that people have for colleges and for their schools that they attended and just the you're talking about generations because I mean like Duke and Yukon are very storied universities very prestigious
- 8:41[SPEAKER_00]: Think about the generations of people that are being raised to be Yukon and Duke fans and like how much this means to them in that moment It just kind of all crescendoed So it's not just a game itself.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_00]: It's the way one shot that one shot carries years of history with it and it turns this sour thing into something sweet
- 9:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's pretty cool.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_01]: March minus man, it just continues to prove every year that it is actually madness and there's always some unique moment like this or Cinderella story that the whole country can be like, holy cow, what just happened type of situations and it's so fun to watch.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_01]: Mind blowing stuff and Braille and Mullins.
- 9:17[SPEAKER_01]: Freshman.
- 9:18[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if he's got an NBA career ahead of him chances are that's the other thing about this is a lot of these guys Like this is their moment.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_01]: This is the typical of where they will go in their basketball career He might be selling insurance in 10 years, but he will always remember this moment, right?
- 9:31[SPEAKER_00]: And he will have no issue selling insurance especially if he stays in the state of Connecticut.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_00]: You hear me?
- 9:36[SPEAKER_00]: He'll never have to pay for a drink or food again as long as he stays in Connecticut.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_01]: You call it buzzer be a is a hero Yeah, his company can be buzzer beater insurance or something like that.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_01]: You know like everyone will know
- 9:47[SPEAKER_00]: everyone will know in the state of the or they'll know as they like the moments well i mean he would have to be an insurance broker right because unless he's going to start his own insurance company itself he'd have to be a broker that then sells multiple insurance is but maybe i'm getting into the weeds yeah maybe i mean you and i right before we hopped on your we're talking about setting up s corpse so you know we can get all into the into the weeds here we really need that's true that's funny okay
- 10:15[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_00]: So I want to talk about the Artemis moon launch here for a second.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_00]: So they're supposed to take off at some point today.
- 10:20[SPEAKER_00]: So NASA is sending a crew of four astronauts to travel farther than any astronauts have ever traveled before towards the moon.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_00]: It's a 10 day mission.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_00]: So that should be happening.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_00]: Something really hasn't happened like this in like 50 years.
- 10:33[SPEAKER_00]: So it's kind of surprising because you know, we think about the moon landing and honestly, I think about whenever I think about the moon landing, I think about the conspiracy theories of all the people who believe that the moon landing didn't happen.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_00]: It's just like
- 10:45[SPEAKER_00]: You get around a group of people that maybe you don't get around very much like this past weekend.
- 10:50[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm telling you, that's like a top three thing that's going to come up.
- 10:53[SPEAKER_00]: There's going to be a debate about the moon landing or somebody's going to say, the earth is flat.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I don't know, anyway, I digress on that.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_00]: There's this very cool mission that astronauts could potentially be traveling farther than they ever have.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_00]: And so we'll see how that turns out.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_00]: And he thoughts on that.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, by the time y'all are listening to this, we'll know if they're up in space assuming the weather goes well tonight after we record everything They should be launched and hopefully they are safe and God speed to the man that it takes bravery and courage to get on a spaceship and just go up to space But then to go that far away from earth totally.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_01]: It's not for me
- 11:22[SPEAKER_01]: But I'm glad somebody else is doing it.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_01]: I think what's going to be unique is to see the images that they take from the spaceship and the scene, the backside of the moon will be so cool.
- 11:30[SPEAKER_01]: And it's been seen before in Apollo 13, they went around the moon as well.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_01]: Did the slingshot in order to rescue their ship?
- 11:36[SPEAKER_01]: If you've ever seen that movie, you'll get an idea of what happened there.
- 11:39[SPEAKER_01]: But
- 11:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, man, these astronauts, they're going to be allowed in for like just a trip of a lifetime, but ultimately, yeah, this paves the way I think for a moon landing series in the next few years, that's going to be what's really cool.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_01]: So we get more astronauts on the surface of the moon.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_00]: I think some people are going to say it's fake no matter what, but definitely.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_00]: We'll see what happens.
- 11:58[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, the last thing I want to talk about and really I'm just going to set Conor up to talk more about this because he's been all over this and it's actually been really funny to see, but I'm going to talk about TMZ and Congress.
- 12:08[SPEAKER_00]: All right, so TMZ they're kind of the premier celebrity news organization right like if there's ever a breaking video like a domestic dispute we talked about.
- 12:19[SPEAKER_00]: What was that?
- 12:19[SPEAKER_00]: The first name.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_00]: Taylor Frankie Paul from the Bachelor at TMZ was the one that got the video and released it.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_00]: They have a knack for finding the hidden secret videos, all right?
- 12:30[SPEAKER_00]: And they have a show every day and a newsroom every day just reporting on celebrity news.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_00]: So TMZ has turned this Department of Homeland Security funding fight into a straight-up optics story.
- 12:40[SPEAKER_00]: So the biggest example so far, I mean, there's been multiple examples, but like I'm thinking about Senator Lindsey Graham was spotted at Disney World during the shutdown, so he was able to travel when everybody else was having a hard time traveling during spring break, because Congress is refusing to fund DHS.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_00]: Side note, Trump signed an executive order TSA is getting paid, but there are still parts under the Department of Homeland Security that are still not getting paid.
- 13:06[SPEAKER_00]: And then on the Democratic side, rep Robert Garcia also got pulled into it.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_00]: He was on a trip.
- 13:12[SPEAKER_00]: So basically, TMZ is saying this, if go and find these congressmen congresswoman.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_00]: out in the wild.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_00]: If they're traveling, if they're somewhere internationally, if they're on some sort of a vacation, snap a photo and send it to us.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_00]: And so this is why the story's landing, right?
- 13:29[SPEAKER_00]: Is it's not really about somebody going to Scotland or Disney world or wherever, or one member of Congress being seen in public, it's about perception.
- 13:39[SPEAKER_00]: when it seems like they're kind of sitting on their hands and not doing anything Congress congressional approval by the American public is at an all-time low they're taking these trips enjoying themselves when a lot of other people are suffering because they're refusing to fund the government fully.
- 13:55[SPEAKER_00]: And so all these federal workers are caught in the middle, people are having a hard time traveling.
- 13:59[SPEAKER_00]: So that's what TMZ understands.
- 14:02[SPEAKER_00]: They're not just posting photos.
- 14:03[SPEAKER_00]: They're feeding into this public frustration that says if regular people are dealing with the consequences of this mess, lawmakers should not get to move around like nothing's happening.
- 14:13[SPEAKER_00]: And in this environment, right, it's like everything Congress is doing is under a microscope.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_00]: And to be completely honest in the way I feel about it,
- 14:21[SPEAKER_00]: Good.
- 14:22[SPEAKER_00]: What about you?
- 14:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I feel the same way.
- 14:24[SPEAKER_01]: What's funny is teams these like always been noticed the and they still are noticed they like slimy tabloid that will pay for leaks will pay for sources to send them stuff that's how they are able to find out deaths of celebrities before even family members know that's why they you know they announced Kobe's death to the world before Kobe's wife was even aware that he died in a helicopter crash which is slimy it's picky.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_01]: but they're on a little bit of a redemption toward this year.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_01]: They've been on at the you know the pinnacle of the nancy got through case they've been at the pinnacle of the Taylor Frankie Paul situation at the bachelor rep and then this week yeah they announced this whole effort and they basically said we're gonna also open up a DC office we're coming for congress now we're gonna start trying to like cover
- 15:03[SPEAKER_01]: all the gossip that's going on in DC.
- 15:06[SPEAKER_01]: I saw a tweet this morning.
- 15:07[SPEAKER_01]: I think I said to Mike of that said some hillstaffers, people that are on staffs of congressmembers are trying to prep their senators and their congressmen for this situation.
- 15:16[SPEAKER_01]: Say, hey, you got to be on the lookout TMZs here now.
- 15:19[SPEAKER_01]: Like.
- 15:19[SPEAKER_01]: Hollywood people know how to deal with this and how to hide from TMZ, we're going to have to learn this too, because they are trying to expose the hypocrisy of Congress here.
- 15:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, these people are all in vacation.
- 15:29[SPEAKER_01]: The cop Robert Garcia at a poker table in Vegas, meanwhile, the government is still partially shut down.
- 15:34[SPEAKER_01]: And then the Lindsey Graham wants the one that really has arced a lot of people, because not only see a Disney world while people are, you know, while TSA was not getting fully funded and still isn't, yeah, Trump signed the executive order to pay them, but travel
- 15:49[SPEAKER_01]: But beyond that, Lindsey Graham has been the foremost spokesperson in Congress for the war in Iran.
- 15:54[SPEAKER_01]: And so he's all about sending troops overseas and everything, but he's going to Disney World.
- 15:58[SPEAKER_01]: In the pictures nude, he's dressed like a senator at Disney World.
- 16:01[SPEAKER_01]: Like, who goes to Disney World and loafers and slacks in a button down shirt?
- 16:04[SPEAKER_01]: I'm pretty sure that's like, I'm pretty sure he sleeps in that too, right?
- 16:09[SPEAKER_01]: Probably does.
- 16:10[SPEAKER_01]: And then the best part is the picture, like he's holding this like Disney Princess Cup.
- 16:13[SPEAKER_01]: So the next day his staff posted on his Twitter a picture of him, like,
- 16:19[SPEAKER_01]: You know, masculine and tough because the day before he was, he's got this princess guppies at Disney World.
- 16:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it just doesn't look great.
- 16:27[SPEAKER_01]: And I, I don't love CMZ.
- 16:28[SPEAKER_01]: I think they do like I said a lot of really dirty things.
- 16:31[SPEAKER_01]: But this is them stepping out of saying, hey, Americans, we're going to try to help.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_01]: we're going to recruit you to help us and then we're going to try to help you call out Congress who is being hypocritical and traveling and going to Scotland.
- 16:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, there's a whole group of congressmen together in Scotland that somebody took a picture of they're all over their ought to trip together.
- 16:48[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, come home, solve the problems here and open the government back up.
- 16:52[SPEAKER_01]: Please fund DHS.
- 16:54[SPEAKER_01]: We are in war.
- 16:55[SPEAKER_01]: We need a Department of Homeland Security.
- 16:57[SPEAKER_01]: Like this is ridiculous.
- 16:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, I think like, like all jokes aside at
- 17:04[SPEAKER_00]: I agree with you that this probably isn't the highest form of accountability.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_00]: But it is a form of accountability and that's why I'm for it.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, right.
- 17:13[SPEAKER_00]: Like it's this, you know, it's, it's just this concept of like we elect these members to represent our best interests.
- 17:20[SPEAKER_00]: And we've talked about this a lot at a certain point.
- 17:22[SPEAKER_00]: You spend enough time in DC, you spend enough time in Hollywood, you know, all the examples, right?
- 17:27[SPEAKER_00]: You just kind of become, you just start to stay there.
- 17:29[SPEAKER_00]: You kind of become indoctrinated by it and you forget.
- 17:32[SPEAKER_00]: that the district in Iowa, you represent even exists, that the struggles that they're dealing with even exist, right?
- 17:39[SPEAKER_00]: And so I'm for this because it's a level of accountability, that I think could potentially light a fire under people, especially as we're heading into midterms here in the fall.
- 17:49[SPEAKER_00]: I think that this is actually pretty good timing, and hopefully it helps with getting things done.
- 17:53[SPEAKER_00]: But anyway, that's it for me, Connor.
- 17:55[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, cool.
- 17:56[SPEAKER_01]: Something else that's happened this week.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_01]: We've obviously all seen that Tiger Woods was in another car accident.
- 18:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he was arrested.
- 18:02[SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna hit on that here in a minute, but before I get to that, I want to mention a guy named Gary Woodland.
- 18:07[SPEAKER_01]: Mike, you know who Gary Woodland is, but I'm sure a lot of people don't.
- 18:10[SPEAKER_01]: If you're in the if you're a golf fan, you're in the golf world, you know that name.
- 18:13[SPEAKER_01]: Nonetheless, it's worth hearing his story real fast, and I'm going to juxtapose it to Tiger Woods story, because there aren't completely different paths here.
- 18:20[SPEAKER_01]: But Gary Woodland is a professional golfer.
- 18:23[SPEAKER_01]: He's won the U.S. Open.
- 18:24[SPEAKER_01]: He won it in 2019.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_01]: He's won a few other tournaments as well.
- 18:27[SPEAKER_01]: He's never been World No.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_01]: 1 or anything.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_01]: He's not Scotty Sheffler or Tiger Woods or film, film Nicholson level, but he's good.
- 18:33[SPEAKER_01]: And he in 2023 had his life flipped upside down when he was diagnosed with a brain tumor that was pressing on the part of his brain that is in control of fear and anxiety.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_01]: And it was causing him appetite loss.
- 18:45[SPEAKER_01]: It was starting to cause a memory loss when he started taking medications for it So him and his wife decided the best course of action was to actually go under the knife and have it removed and He did that he had a procedure before he did that Understanding the riskiness of the procedure.
- 18:59[SPEAKER_01]: He actually wrote letters to his family his children and his wife And Gacy did pass away during the surgery.
- 19:04[SPEAKER_01]: He talked about that on the Netflix show full swing a show Mike and I both love and he just you know He described the emotional
- 19:10[SPEAKER_01]: elements of writing a letter to your family, believe me, you made Passaway.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_01]: Thankfully, he survived.
- 19:16[SPEAKER_01]: In four months, he recovered.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_01]: It was back on the golf course, but it has been a journey.
- 19:20[SPEAKER_01]: 2024 or 2025.
- 19:22[SPEAKER_01]: Really hard seasons for him.
- 19:24[SPEAKER_01]: And he's talked about that.
- 19:25[SPEAKER_01]: And he has opened up about how much of a mental struggle he still has.
- 19:28[SPEAKER_01]: And then this past month at the Players Championship.
- 19:31[SPEAKER_01]: He sat down for an interview and explained he's still suffering from PTSD.
- 19:34[SPEAKER_01]: uh... from parts of the tomb where that could not be removed that are still pressing on that piece of his brain that caused the fear of anxiety uh... he is he's got he's got issues being out on the course with crowds he's constantly at fear he used to live in complete fear that he's going to die because of this tumor pressing on that part of his brain but now he's moving forward and he started to open up and he's realized being vulnerable has opened up the opportunity for him to discuss and start talking to better into a PTSD find ways forward talking to the PGA about extra security
- 20:03[SPEAKER_01]: extra space and all that and he's just explained basically going public has lifted this thousand pound weight off of his chest all that to say that led up to this past weekend he goes to the Houston open a pretty big golf tournament in the PGA world and he went and it's just this beautiful moment of redemption his wife comes and rushes out to him after he gets that last uh ball on the whole 18 on Sunday afternoon it's just this moment of like
- 20:32[SPEAKER_01]: a journey of healing and trying to get better and now he's trying to be vulnerable and open up and I just kind of want to read the statement that he said afterwards to ESPN.
- 20:42[SPEAKER_01]: He said, I appreciate that the love and support, but inside I feel like I'm dying and I feel like I'm living a lie.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_01]: I want to live my dreams and be successful out here, but I want to help people too.
- 20:52[SPEAKER_01]: I realize now I've got to help myself first.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_01]: All that to say, I think that is a sentiment that Tiger Woods should take into consideration.
- 21:03[SPEAKER_01]: As you know, golf ants, if you are golfhand, you've been waiting for Tiger to come back.
- 21:09[SPEAKER_01]: This man has been through tons of surgeries, has been through multiple car accident.
- 21:12[SPEAKER_01]: His body is basically half metal at this point.
- 21:14[SPEAKER_01]: It is broken, and he consistently goes through rehabbing towards ACL again, or not ACL.
- 21:19[SPEAKER_01]: His Achilles last year, just playing golf.
- 21:22[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he's been always in the, probably last decade or so, working towards coming back to the golf course.
- 21:27[SPEAKER_01]: He did win the Masters in 2019, but since then, he has been trying to get his body back and shape so he can play.
- 21:33[SPEAKER_01]: here and there, handful of times over the last five years, but everybody's waiting to see if he's going to come back and play the Masters next week.
- 21:40[SPEAKER_01]: And a lot of people were excited to see him try to make that recovery and make it to the course.
- 21:45[SPEAKER_01]: He went and played on an indoor simulator last week that was televised on ESPN, a nearly a million people tuned in for that just to see Tiger Woods swing the ball at his screen.
- 21:53[SPEAKER_01]: That tells you how important it is to see him back out on the golf course.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_01]: That was on Tuesday, by Friday.
- 21:58[SPEAKER_00]: widely known, just to clarify for people who aren't big sports fans.
- 22:01[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, there's, there's a debate, but widely known as the greatest golfer ever.
- 22:05[SPEAKER_00]: You know, like this, I mean, the most championships, the most went, I mean, just like an unbelievable run.
- 22:10[SPEAKER_00]: You know, and he's just captivated golf fans for years and years.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_00]: And we all as golf fans like want him to come back, want him to be healthy.
- 22:19[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it's, it's sad to see him like this right now.
- 22:22[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's I've compared them before and I actually I wrote an article on this and we'll link it in the show notes diving more into this Tiger Woods saga and things he needs to do and ways we can take this spiritually and I'll get into a little bit here in a minute, but you can like to Tiger Woods to like a Michael Jordan or Tom Brady.
- 22:37[SPEAKER_01]: but really more so like Michael Jordan, Michael Jordan's popularity and start him took the NBA to new heights in the 90s.
- 22:43[SPEAKER_01]: Tiger did that for golf in the 2000s and just going to introduce the sports to a much wider audience and so many people are into golf now play golf, watch golf because of Tiger's influence on the game because he was so great.
- 22:56[SPEAKER_01]: And so it's really sad to see him not be so great anymore, and a lot of that is because of his own moral failures, including driving recklessly, he was arrested this past Saturday after, or sorry, Friday after he rolled his vehicle when he clipped another truck, and he was arrested for driving under the influence police found him to be impaired.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_01]: They found two hydrocodone pills in his pocket.
- 23:18[SPEAKER_01]: They said his eyes were glassy glazed over.
- 23:20[SPEAKER_01]: He was a large, stumbling around.
- 23:22[SPEAKER_01]: And he did take a breath laser test, blew up 0.00.
- 23:26[SPEAKER_01]: So he was not, it was not alcohol impairment.
- 23:29[SPEAKER_01]: This was drug impairment.
- 23:30[SPEAKER_01]: And it's been widely known for a while that he,
- 23:33[SPEAKER_01]: may have an addiction to painkillers.
- 23:35[SPEAKER_01]: And so there's a lot to take with that.
- 23:37[SPEAKER_01]: This is not his first accident.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_01]: He's had four accidents in the last four single vehicle accidents in the last 16 years, which is insane.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_01]: It's dozen 90 crashes car in his neighbor's yard into a fire hydrant.
- 23:48[SPEAKER_01]: And that was after his then wife was kind of like chasing him out of the house because she just found out he was cheating on her with multiple women in that.
- 23:56[SPEAKER_01]: That accident then led into the big moral public scandal
- 24:02[SPEAKER_01]: And that was a big fall for Grace, fall from Grace for Tiger in the world and then in 2017 he was found behind the wheel of another vehicle, a sleep and impaired the vehicle as part.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_01]: He was arrested for DUI at that time as well.
- 24:16[SPEAKER_01]: He pleaded guilty and he did a short stint and a clinic for help.
- 24:20[SPEAKER_01]: After that, and then 2021, Mike and yo remember this one pretty well as when he was in a really bad accident out in L.A.
- 24:26[SPEAKER_01]: Single vehicle car crash where he lost control because he was going 87 and a 45 mile per hour zone rolled the car, went airborne.
- 24:34[SPEAKER_01]: He was nearly killed in the accident and they had to use the jaws of life to extract him.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_01]: Nearly lost his leg, doctors were considering the amputating they opted not to at the last second.
- 24:44[SPEAKER_01]: So he did keep his leg, but it was practically destroyed, so a lot of what's been going on in the last four years is him trying to revive his right leg to come back so he can just swing a club normal right so much there is his body has been taking a toll, but so has his heart and that's kind of where I want to go with this is
- 25:00[SPEAKER_01]: You know, there's a lot of people talking about Tiger's not okay, and that's a physical thing.
- 25:06[SPEAKER_01]: That's a mental thing.
- 25:07[SPEAKER_01]: It's emotional for sure.
- 25:09[SPEAKER_01]: I would say he's spiritually not okay and needs spiritual healing first and foremost.
- 25:12[SPEAKER_01]: That's going to be the right path towards a journey to physical healing if we ever want to see him back on a golf course.
- 25:19[SPEAKER_01]: The good news is he did say on Tuesday, he's taking a step back and he's going to go
- 25:28[SPEAKER_01]: He's still needs to admit that he has an issue.
- 25:30[SPEAKER_01]: He is not publicly confess that.
- 25:32[SPEAKER_01]: He has not said, I have an addiction.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_01]: I have a problem.
- 25:35[SPEAKER_01]: I'm seeking relief in all the wrong places.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_01]: I shouldn't be driving when I'm like, everyone has pointed out, dude, you're a billionaire.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_01]: You can have a full-time driver.
- 25:45[SPEAKER_01]: Take you around.
- 25:45[SPEAKER_01]: He said no.
- 25:46[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he refuses to do it.
- 25:48[SPEAKER_01]: He continues to get behind the wheels of these cars and that is dangerous man He's a danger to himself.
- 25:53[SPEAKER_01]: He's a danger to the people around him.
- 25:55[SPEAKER_01]: His neighbors.
- 25:55[SPEAKER_01]: He's a danger to Anyone on the street.
- 25:58[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he's been very fortunate not to have killed or injured somebody all along besides himself in all of these accidents
- 26:06[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, man, Michael, I would just say his decisions in life that they've impacted a lot of people.
- 26:11[SPEAKER_01]: He's blown up his family.
- 26:12[SPEAKER_01]: He drags him into messes.
- 26:14[SPEAKER_01]: He's obviously damaging the legacy of his name as the greatest golfer of all time.
- 26:17[SPEAKER_01]: Like you just mentioned, he is known as the greatest.
- 26:20[SPEAKER_01]: And ultimately, it damages the sport.
- 26:22[SPEAKER_01]: He sits on the PGA committee competition committee.
- 26:25[SPEAKER_01]: His name is tied to tons of events and sponsorships.
- 26:28[SPEAKER_01]: He's the star who took this.
- 26:29[SPEAKER_01]: sport to another level and golf journalist Alice ship Nick he had a really good same with this week he said it makes you worry about tiger's future makes you worry about his kids and that too much of tiger's inner circle is quote on his payroll and has enabled his addiction for years.
- 26:44[SPEAKER_01]: Just a little bit of thoughts here, Michael.
- 26:46[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 26:48[SPEAKER_00]: Well, you know, I think it's it's hard to even compare him to
- 26:53[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I definitely get the comparison with Michael Jordan and Tom Brady because I think that they all had this similar obsession.
- 27:01[SPEAKER_00]: of, like, I will force sake all to be the best.
- 27:06[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, and that was, you know, like, for example, like, we talked about Scotty Sheffler and the way that he views life of life golf is not my identity, my identities and Christ and being a good husband and a good dad.
- 27:15[SPEAKER_00]: And then Tom Brady comes out and, you know, kind of writes up this whole thing of like, what are you talking about, right?
- 27:20[SPEAKER_00]: Like, winning is everything, right?
- 27:23[SPEAKER_00]: And this is like goat talk, right?
- 27:24[SPEAKER_00]: Like, this is,
- 27:26[SPEAKER_00]: Tom Brady, like the greatest quarterback of all time, all the championships, all the MVP's.
- 27:30[SPEAKER_00]: And then so for Tiger, it's also interesting because he's widely known as the greatest golfer of all time, but but also has had all of these moral failures and things that have side-tracked him.
- 27:41[SPEAKER_00]: I think my thoughts are these moments remind us that we put these celebrities in these champions.
- 27:48[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, the people who are just the best at their craft on this pedestal and can sometimes forget that they are human, sinful, fallen, struggling.
- 27:58[SPEAKER_00]: And without community, without accountability, without a relationship with Jesus, where you've actually surrendered your life to something greater than yourself and you acknowledge, my life is not my own.
- 28:11[SPEAKER_00]: without that acknowledgment, without those pieces around you, were all susceptible to falling, to struggle.
- 28:20[SPEAKER_00]: And so if you surround yourself with people who are gonna enable whatever it is that you wanna do, at some point it's gonna come back to bite you.
- 28:28[SPEAKER_00]: So no matter how great Tiger is, he's also still human.
- 28:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yep, exactly right, and that's why I'm saying I think you could take a page out of Gary Woodland's Playbook.
- 28:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, be vulnerable, be open, find people you can trust and tell them what you're struggling with.
- 28:42[SPEAKER_01]: And admit that you have a problem, that's the first step is you got to say, hey man, I'm battling something here, I need help.
- 28:47[SPEAKER_01]: You have to be willing to do that, but you're right, a lot of people.
- 28:50[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Tiger is so unique.
- 28:52[SPEAKER_01]: He's been on this pedestal.
- 28:54[SPEAKER_01]: He is seen as a god by so many people.
- 28:56[SPEAKER_01]: I want this Christian golfer writer that I like to read his stuff, his name's Kyle Porter.
- 29:00[SPEAKER_01]: He writes a normal sport, the newsletter.
- 29:03[SPEAKER_01]: He noted this week that Tiger's been doing full of things for a long time because whatever one treats you like you're a god, why wouldn't you act as if you're invincible, right?
- 29:10[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 29:10[SPEAKER_01]: Why, why, right, wouldn't you reject an accountability?
- 29:13[SPEAKER_01]: You're considered a god to the world.
- 29:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, this particular incident though, Kyle points out because that it's it's a good reminder that he's very much so not a God and that he's just like to rest of us, we're all in need of help and that's why everything you're saying, Mike, about accountability about finding those people in your life and being real and raw and honest with them, but also real and raw and honest with God and saying God, I need
- 29:36[SPEAKER_01]: you.
- 29:38[SPEAKER_01]: I can't do this on my own, right?
- 29:41[SPEAKER_01]: And that's, I was going to mention Scotty Sheffler as well.
- 29:43[SPEAKER_01]: The, the, the now the number one golfer in the world and just at the prime of his career and yet he said last year going into the British open.
- 29:51[SPEAKER_01]: Golf is great, but it's not my end all be all.
- 29:54[SPEAKER_01]: I want to be known as a man of God.
- 29:55[SPEAKER_01]: I want to be known as a family man.
- 29:57[SPEAKER_01]: I enjoy golf.
- 29:58[SPEAKER_01]: I love golf.
- 29:59[SPEAKER_01]: I will continue to try to be the best and compete at my highest level.
- 30:02[SPEAKER_01]: But it's not, it's not my purpose.
- 30:04[SPEAKER_01]: Like, God has given me this platform.
- 30:06[SPEAKER_01]: That is a purpose.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_01]: But when it becomes your everything, and then, and Tiger's instance, golf probably is, has everything, right?
- 30:15[SPEAKER_01]: He's got family of stuff.
- 30:16[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm sure he cares and loves his family.
- 30:17[SPEAKER_01]: But
- 30:18[SPEAKER_01]: When you've been told that golf is your purpose and it starts to not be something you can even do because your body is Be up by it.
- 30:25[SPEAKER_01]: Your heart is sore from all the public failures that you've had doing or that you've brought upon yourself and now endured the public reaction to it And that that really puts things into perspective for you.
- 30:37[SPEAKER_01]: So my hope is that we can take this lesson from tiger and apply it to our own lives, right?
- 30:42[SPEAKER_01]: Say, Lord, I need you
- 30:44[SPEAKER_01]: And we can look at Scripture and see that God has given us all the wisdom that we need to recognize He is the one who heals.
- 30:52[SPEAKER_01]: Exodus 1526 says that God is Jehovah, Rafa, which in English means the Lord who heals you.
- 31:00[SPEAKER_01]: Thanks a very powerful Sam.
- 31:01[SPEAKER_01]: It's actually the only time it's said in the Bible Jehovah, Rafa, but it's a very powerful word in name for the Lord.
- 31:06[SPEAKER_01]: And so I would encourage anybody who is looking for healing today in emotional healing, spiritual healing, mental healing,
- 31:14[SPEAKER_01]: call out to Jehovah Rafa, our God.
- 31:17[SPEAKER_01]: Who is our healer?
- 31:18[SPEAKER_01]: He's the one who can do that.
- 31:19[SPEAKER_01]: My prayer would be that we would all take that and do that.
- 31:22[SPEAKER_01]: I would also ask us all to pray for Tiger.
- 31:24[SPEAKER_01]: Can you imagine of Tiger Woods would surrender himself to God?
- 31:30[SPEAKER_01]: humble himself and kneel down before the war would make and the platform that Tiger Woods has and this is true of everybody and there's people with massive platforms and they're still not, you know, they're Christians and they're still not going to go and blast about it all the time, but man, what a what a different dude making his life and then the impact he could have on the world with that.
- 31:47[SPEAKER_01]: So I would encourage us all to pray for Tiger and his heart.
- 31:49[SPEAKER_01]: that as he steps aside from golf from the public eye for a little bit, he would seek help and treatment here in medical treatment and all that, but also spiritual treatment for his heart with the Lord of Lords.
- 32:01[SPEAKER_01]: Remember that Psalm 231 says, the Lord is in my shepherd.
- 32:04[SPEAKER_01]: I shall not want.
- 32:05[SPEAKER_01]: He makes me lie down and green pastures.
- 32:07[SPEAKER_01]: He leaves me beside still waters.
- 32:09[SPEAKER_01]: He restores my soul.
- 32:10[SPEAKER_01]: He leaves me in paths of righteousness for his namesake.
- 32:14[SPEAKER_01]: So let's all take that to truth.
- 32:17[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, thank God that he leads us to still pastors, right?
- 32:20[SPEAKER_01]: Green pastors, what a beautiful thing that is.
- 32:24[SPEAKER_00]: Love it, Connor.
- 32:24[SPEAKER_00]: I love the way that you took that.
- 32:26[SPEAKER_00]: And I think it was a good wrap up for all of these things that we discussed.
- 32:30[SPEAKER_00]: Some of them were fun.
- 32:30[SPEAKER_00]: Some of them were difficult.
- 32:32[SPEAKER_00]: We have to remember where our identity truly is.
- 32:35[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so cool.
- 32:35[SPEAKER_00]: So let's jump into the mail bag and think,
- 32:39[SPEAKER_00]: really just want to remind you to send us some stuff.
- 32:42[SPEAKER_00]: We'd love to continue to hear from you.
- 32:44[SPEAKER_00]: We try to include everything that we get ultimately sometimes it needs to be relevant.
- 32:49[SPEAKER_00]: So like that's so but we're grateful for all the correspondence that we get.
- 32:53[SPEAKER_00]: So we want to hear from you.
- 32:54[SPEAKER_00]: Send us your questions, your thoughts, your topic ideas to culture brief at DenisonForm.org.
- 32:59[SPEAKER_00]: And follow us on Instagram, Culture Reef podcast, and you can send us a D in there specifically what we're asking for is of course Send us any reactions to the topics of this show, but would love to hear some fun April Fool's stories pranks that you played or pranks that have been played on you maybe this year or in the past.
- 33:16[SPEAKER_00]: All right, let's jump in a check-in
- 33:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, obviously, the big things still going on here is Iran.
- 33:23[SPEAKER_00]: What's that?
- 33:23[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 33:24[SPEAKER_01]: No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
- 33:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you know, anyways, it's going on.
- 33:37[SPEAKER_01]: Still, there is still a pretty big hold on the shoot of our moves, some ships are getting through.
- 33:41[SPEAKER_01]: It's starting to really put a crunch on oil.
- 33:44[SPEAKER_01]: We officially hit $4 a gallon in the U.S. this week as the average gas price, no boy now.
- 33:50[SPEAKER_01]: That's not great.
- 33:51[SPEAKER_01]: That never looks good.
- 33:52[SPEAKER_01]: It always damages presidents, that affects elections.
- 33:54[SPEAKER_01]: And then it affects our economy.
- 33:56[SPEAKER_01]: So we would like to see that gas price come down.
- 33:58[SPEAKER_01]: I think a lot of people would, but at the same time,
- 34:00[SPEAKER_01]: Trump and the Pentagon have ordered tons of people overseas still.
- 34:04[SPEAKER_01]: There are hundreds of Navy SEALs, army rangers, other special operations forces that have arrived in the Middle East over the last week or two.
- 34:11[SPEAKER_01]: They've joined the Marines that have been sent over there already.
- 34:14[SPEAKER_01]: It's giving Trump basically a menu of military options to have all those people over their pair of troopers are there.
- 34:19[SPEAKER_01]: Just you want to take Carg Island, just you want to go further inland and try to secure the uranium that Iran has in rich.
- 34:24[SPEAKER_01]: There's apparently a idea that
- 34:27[SPEAKER_01]: That may happen.
- 34:28[SPEAKER_01]: Trump has been presented the plans for retrieving essentially a thousand pounds of uranium for my ran that would be an extremely dangerous mission to go deep into I ran into the mountains into the caves where they have stored these basically massive scuba-like tanks of uranium that require a very Particular way of extracting and pulling out so that you don't accidentally crack it open and release the radiation like there's so much danger to that How do you even get these troops in and out and then with that uranium?
- 34:54[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 34:55[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure they drawn up great plans for it.
- 34:58[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not sure it's the best use of the military, but we'll have to just see what Trump does.
- 35:03[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's basically in his hands out and decide what he wants to do.
- 35:06[SPEAKER_01]: That said, by the time you're listening to this, we'll have heard Trump's address to the nation.
- 35:11[SPEAKER_01]: Wednesday night, as we're recording now, we'll see what he says tonight.
- 35:15[SPEAKER_01]: He's apparently making an address.
- 35:17[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be about 20 minutes long.
- 35:21[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, it will interrupt
- 35:24[SPEAKER_01]: I know I saw survivors like planning a cliffhanger around it.
- 35:27[SPEAKER_01]: They're going to do like a part one of the episode cliffhanger and then come back.
- 35:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but I'll just say anything I'll just go ahead I was just going to say he could announce a de-escalation that they were going to pull back were approaching the end of this conflict and that it's been success.
- 35:42[SPEAKER_01]: Now, we can all judge if it's been a success or not, but he wants to declare a success.
- 35:46[SPEAKER_01]: He could also announce doubling down sending in ground troops.
- 35:49[SPEAKER_01]: He could announce a retrieval or like a retreat from NATO, like we're going to pull out of NATO.
- 35:53[SPEAKER_01]: There's a lot of things being tossed out there that he could announce by the time of the sentence.
- 35:57[SPEAKER_01]: Like we said, you'll already know and we'll know and maybe we'll come back and address that next week.
- 36:01[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, Michael, what are you going to say?
- 36:03[SPEAKER_00]: I think there's a reason that Trump posted this morning on April 1st, okay, now that that's interesting, because it's April fulls day.
- 36:10[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe he shouldn't post anything today because people would see the opposite, but this morning, like an hour before we're recording, he posted that the Iran regime leaders in charge, he keeps saying they're much less radical, they're much more understanding, whatever.
- 36:24[SPEAKER_00]: They have officially asked for a ceasefire.
- 36:27[SPEAKER_00]: Now, that hasn't been backed up by any other sources, however, he has never said something like this, so like there's something going on there.
- 36:33[SPEAKER_00]: I just wonder what he's setting the stage for tonight, like he knows his speeches tonight,
- 36:39[SPEAKER_00]: So I feel like he's setting the table for it, but again, the whole April 1st April fulls thing.
- 36:45[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, that was the first thing with it.
- 36:47[SPEAKER_00]: I just think that was interesting that he posted that this morning of any day in the year that he posted that this morning.
- 36:53[SPEAKER_01]: Well, even last night when they announced that the White House is going to be doing this and that he's going to be doing this address to the nation, people were like, you guys really waited till April 1st like what do you understand what this means?
- 37:03[SPEAKER_01]: Like people are going to
- 37:06[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, man.
- 37:07[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see what he decides and we'll just sleep y'all posted on Iran.
- 37:10[SPEAKER_01]: Continue to pray for our troops over there and they are still in harm's way.
- 37:14[SPEAKER_01]: something else.
- 37:15[SPEAKER_01]: Project Hill Mary, I mentioned this last week.
- 37:17[SPEAKER_01]: It was really doing good at the box office.
- 37:19[SPEAKER_01]: Dude, this movie has really just taken off and it's great and I just want to point it out because I did go see it over this past weekend.
- 37:25[SPEAKER_01]: I thought it was amazing and I just want to say this is the kind of movie Hollywood that we want more of.
- 37:31[SPEAKER_01]: It was clean.
- 37:32[SPEAKER_01]: It was fun.
- 37:33[SPEAKER_01]: It was creative and original and visually very impressive and it had a great movie star Ryan Gosling at the center of it
- 37:43[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he very much so displays Ryan Gosling, which is not a bad thing.
- 37:46[SPEAKER_01]: This movie is sitting at 8.4 stars and 90% in 95% around tomatoes.
- 37:50[SPEAKER_01]: The people love it.
- 37:51[SPEAKER_01]: It has brought in over $300 million to the box office that is unheard of for an original film that rarely happens.
- 37:57[SPEAKER_01]: It's typically, it's doing better than Marvel movies do, and it didn't really have a big second we can drop off the way that most movies do.
- 38:05[SPEAKER_01]: It's got legs, man, because the word of mouth is great, and it's kind of reminded me of Top Gun Maverick, just a movie that is pure and fun and pretty clean and people can just go see.
- 38:15[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, well then, I have to go see it.
- 38:16[SPEAKER_00]: If it's anything like Top Gun Maverick, then I'm going to go see it, because Top Gun Maverick is like one of the greatest, it's probably the greatest movie of our generation, my opinion, but anyway, I digress.
- 38:24[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I, I honestly, I think you'd like this movie.
- 38:28[SPEAKER_01]: It's very fun.
- 38:28[SPEAKER_01]: They didn't even use that much CGI.
- 38:30[SPEAKER_01]: It is a space epic.
- 38:31[SPEAKER_01]: It is Ryan Gosling on a spaceship.
- 38:33[SPEAKER_01]: Millions of miles away from Earth and they didn't even use that much CGI.
- 38:36[SPEAKER_01]: They built a spaceship for real.
- 38:38[SPEAKER_01]: It's all practical effects.
- 38:39[SPEAKER_01]: There's an interesting detail.
- 38:42[SPEAKER_00]: You can tell.
- 38:43[SPEAKER_01]: You can tell.
- 38:43[SPEAKER_01]: Man, you can totally tell.
- 38:44[SPEAKER_01]: It's kind of like top on fabric.
- 38:45[SPEAKER_01]: Man, there's not that much CGI.
- 38:47[SPEAKER_01]: They're using real planes.
- 38:48[SPEAKER_01]: It's cool.
- 38:49[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, man.
- 38:49[SPEAKER_01]: Go read our, we've got an article on tinstone form.org.
- 38:52[SPEAKER_01]: We'll link it in the show notes by Parker Jones to spoiler free review.
- 38:55[SPEAKER_01]: If you kind of want to learn more about this movie and why you should go see it.
- 38:57[SPEAKER_01]: But I would encourage everybody if you got time go see it is two and a half hours long.
- 39:01[SPEAKER_01]: Otherwise wait for it to come on streaming and definitely check it out.
- 39:03[SPEAKER_00]: And fun fact, Parker Jones is Connor Jones is little brother.
- 39:08[SPEAKER_00]: Good job, little bro.
- 39:09[SPEAKER_00]: Good article.
- 39:10[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 39:11[SPEAKER_00]: So let's jump into tune in.
- 39:15[SPEAKER_00]: All right, so the men's final four.
- 39:17[SPEAKER_00]: So we talked about that, but it's set for Saturday, April 4th.
- 39:20[SPEAKER_00]: And in the semi finals, you've got Illinois versus UConn.
- 39:23[SPEAKER_00]: That's the first game.
- 39:24[SPEAKER_00]: And the second game is Arizona versus Michigan.
- 39:27[SPEAKER_00]: Both games will air on TBS.
- 39:29[SPEAKER_00]: And then we get the National Championship game coming up on Monday, April 6th.
- 39:34[SPEAKER_00]: Tune in for that.
- 39:35[SPEAKER_00]: It's always fun.
- 39:36[SPEAKER_00]: The most fun part of March madness is over.
- 39:38[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 39:38[SPEAKER_00]: Because the Cinderella teams are all out now.
- 39:41[SPEAKER_00]: But you never know what you're gonna get from game to game in the buzzer computer.
- 39:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and then finally listen Sir, Easter's coming up.
- 39:50[SPEAKER_00]: So Friday is good Friday.
- 39:52[SPEAKER_00]: Sunday is Easter as followers of Jesus I think the best way I can describe Easter is the verse Roman 623 For the wages of sin is death But the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
- 40:07[SPEAKER_00]: That kind of sums it all up right there
- 40:09[SPEAKER_00]: You will never hear, betterness, than what you were told when you were young, or maybe what you've been told recently, or maybe you're being told it right now, that Jesus died for you.
- 40:21[SPEAKER_00]: His death, his burial, his resurrection, taking on the sins of humanity, taking on what we couldn't take on.
- 40:27[SPEAKER_00]: Changes absolutely everything, and so for Christians,
- 40:31[SPEAKER_00]: This is not Easter Egg Hansen.
- 40:34[SPEAKER_00]: Easter Bunnies.
- 40:35[SPEAKER_00]: All those things are fun.
- 40:36[SPEAKER_00]: Nothing wrong with doing those things I'm looking forward to doing those things with family.
- 40:40[SPEAKER_00]: And with my kids.
- 40:41[SPEAKER_00]: But this is a special time to be able to reflect on the most amazing moment in human history when God stepped down and sacrificed himself for each and every one of us so that we could have an opportunity for salvation.
- 40:54[SPEAKER_00]: have an opportunity for eternal life in heaven with Jesus, but even more than that, when you have a relationship with him, it changes everything about your everyday.
- 41:03[SPEAKER_00]: Every circumstance in your life can be off track and wrong.
- 41:07[SPEAKER_00]: People can despise you, not like you, you can be struggling with work, you can be struggling in family, you can be feeling like you're getting every single thing wrong.
- 41:17[SPEAKER_00]: But Jesus changes everything.
- 41:19[SPEAKER_00]: The best thing about us is what Jesus did for us, whether if we acknowledge it as true or not.
- 41:25[SPEAKER_00]: So, for me, I came to faith when I was young and I've never heard better news in my entire life than Jesus died for me.
- 41:33[SPEAKER_00]: Then Jesus's death, burial, and resurrection.
- 41:36[SPEAKER_00]: And that's what this week and symbolizes.
- 41:38[SPEAKER_00]: So we encourage you to get to church.
- 41:40[SPEAKER_00]: We encourage you to find a Bible believing.
- 41:42[SPEAKER_00]: Christian church that preaches the truth and that you go on Easter and that you invite people to come with you and you invite your neighbors and you just use it as an opportunity to share the hope that you have within you as we're seeking to share every single week every single day the hope that's with us with us
- 41:58[SPEAKER_01]: Amen to that brother.
- 42:00[SPEAKER_01]: The tomb is empty and what a blessing that is the best news.
- 42:04[SPEAKER_01]: Amen.
- 42:05[SPEAKER_01]: You just detailed force man to gospel so cool.
- 42:08[SPEAKER_01]: Love the gospel.
- 42:09[SPEAKER_01]: All right guys, enjoy your Easter.
- 42:11[SPEAKER_01]: And thanks for joining us on this week's episode of The Culture Brief, the Dinnison Forum podcast.
