- 0:00[SPEAKER_01]: It's incredible how fast the week blows by and we've spent a good bit of time talking about Proverbs 29-1.
- 0:08[SPEAKER_01]: I appreciate your listenership today.
- 0:11[SPEAKER_01]: I'm Mike McCurrey.
- 0:12[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you for listening to Bible-tracked echoes.
- 0:14[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to ask you if you would go to the Book of Proverbs chapter 29.
- 0:17[SPEAKER_01]: I want to read for you.
- 0:19[SPEAKER_01]: I want to read with you.
- 0:20[SPEAKER_01]: If you have an open front of you, maybe you've heard it about it dozen times this week and you say, but the mic I've got it memorized and you don't need to say it again.
- 0:26[SPEAKER_01]: Now I think I do.
- 0:28[SPEAKER_01]: Because there are some areas of the Christian walk that we must be very careful about in reference to this verse because there may well be sudden destruction just around the corner if you don't heed what you hear.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_01]: Today, Proverbs 29 verse 1, he, that being often reproved, hardened at this neck shall suddenly be destroyed and that without remedy.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_01]: I alluded to, and I'm just passing the fact that as a young man about 12 years old, my last year in junior church, one of the men that split time teaching in junior church, he preached about half the time, so 26 out of 52 weeks of my 12-year-old self heard.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_01]: this thought.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_01]: He seemed to always come back to it.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_01]: He always referenced it.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_01]: It was either his text or a supporting scripture, it seemed like Parvus 291, he that being often reproved, hardened at his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy you say, that's quite a soapbox to stand up on.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_01]: It's an important soapbox stand-on when you're talking to some young knuckleheads who don't listen, who I should say, they hear what God says, but it goes in one ear and out the other, we harden our necks and say, I don't want to, but it's not just 12-year-olds like I was.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_01]: It's all of us, isn't it?
- 1:47[SPEAKER_01]: We can all be hard heads or hard necks, as the Bible says, we can all be rebellious.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_01]: And the punishment can be swift and severe.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_01]: We talked about how when you mess with God's work, sudden destruction may be around the corner, ooze on touching the cart, touching, I should say, the ark of God was being transported wrong.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_01]: God's work was diluted, was messed with.
- 2:13[SPEAKER_01]: God's worship, Nehdeb and Abahu, and Leviticus chapter 10, they approached God on their own terms the way they wanted to, even though God had laid out in precise and pristine detail, and these young man they weren't fools, they weren't this wasn't the first time they were aware of this, they were Eirin's sons.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_01]: They were there every step of the way.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_01]: They were the assistant manager of the tavernacle.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_01]: They knew which end was up, and yet they still chose to offer strange fire.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_01]: When you mess with God's work, you got a problem.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_01]: When you mess with God's worship.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_01]: You've got a problem, some destruction may be around the corner.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_01]: Head direct instructions, but disregarded.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_01]: God's wealth and anious and sapphire in the book of Acts sold a piece of land and they wanted to seem like big shots, they wanted to seem like real big givers, they wanted to seem like they were real invested in the work of God and they were they were going to give a piece apart of the money
- 3:15[SPEAKER_01]: We don't know, but for round numbers sake, maybe they sold it for $100,000, and they wanted to give a hundred thousand of it, and it was a big chunk of change.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_01]: I realized that, but they misrepresented, they told God, and they told Peter, they told the people, we sold it for a hundred thousand.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_01]: That wasn't true.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_01]: Again, these are just figurative.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_01]: These are just example numbers.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_01]: But whatever case was, they held back part of it.
- 3:39[SPEAKER_01]: The problem wasn't Peter lays out.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_01]: The problem was not that they held back part.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_01]: It was there money to give.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_01]: God had made them stewards of that piece of land of the money they could choose to just give part or none.
- 3:53[SPEAKER_01]: They didn't have to give any of it.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_01]: If they sold over 150,000, they could have given the 500 bucks.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_01]: It was in their power, Peter says, but the problem was they lied.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_01]: They wanted to seem more giving, more illustrious, more
- 4:10[SPEAKER_01]: more self-deprecating, we're going to give all of it.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_01]: They gave part and lied about it.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_01]: The lie was where the rubber met the road and sudden destruction followed and an iris failed down dead.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_01]: Sophia, three hours later, comes in, not knowing what happened and she doubles down a lie.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_01]: Peter says,
- 4:41[SPEAKER_01]: I wonder, have you ever messed with God's wealth?
- 4:45[SPEAKER_01]: The Bible is very clear that he loves a cheerful giver.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_01]: I wonder how often we put those, put that gift, that envelope in the offering play or whatever case may be and the word thing and I can't believe I have to give.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_01]: I wonder how much God enjoys your giving.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_01]: God's work, God's worship, God's wealth.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_01]: Andrew Murray once said this, the world asks, what does a man own, Christ asks, how does he use it?
- 5:22[SPEAKER_01]: Let's talk about God's workmen.
- 5:25[SPEAKER_01]: Go to St. King's chapter 2, St. King's chapter 2.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_01]: When you mess with God's workmen, you better be careful.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_01]: I don't love this story because it seems so harsh, but the message was received.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_01]: St. King's chapter 2, a lie she here, is mocked.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_01]: Verse 23, and he went up from then on the Bethel, and as he was going up by the way,
- 5:50[SPEAKER_01]: They came forth little children out of the city and mocked him and said unto him, go up thou bald head, go up thou bald head, and he turned back and looked on them and cursed them in the name of the Lord, and they came forth to shebearers, out of the wood, and tear 40 and two children of them, and he went from dense to Mount Carmel, and from dense he returned to Samaria.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_01]: Now, pause here for just a moment, I'm not telling you, you better be careful about talking about God's man, because God might judge you, I am saying that in the same time,
- 6:19[SPEAKER_01]: Man of God are men at best, okay?
- 6:23[SPEAKER_01]: So let me preface this and be balanced by saying, accountability in God's house for God's man is never a bad thing.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_01]: But you're going to be very careful about falsely accusing about mocking God's man.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_01]: If you have roast preacher for Sunday lunch every day, number one, your kids pay attention to that and they hear that and they lose all respect, not just for that man of God,
- 6:49[SPEAKER_01]: It's a double-edged thing, it cuts both ways, you might drag them down, but you drag yourself down the same time.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_01]: You don't make your building taller by blowing up all the buildings on the block.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_01]: That's not how it works.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_01]: Build up.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_01]: But these young people.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_01]: got mauled for their disrespect.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_01]: They mocked a man of God and faced immediate judgment.
- 7:17[SPEAKER_01]: I think about Korra, Rebellion against Moses, Dathen, and the Byrom, number 16, Hannah and I, the false prophet against Jeremiah there in Jeremiah 28, the officer who doubted Elijah's prophecy in St. King's 7, when Elijah declared the end of the
- 7:38[SPEAKER_01]: But I should prophesize that you're gonna see what happens, but you're not gonna partake of it.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_01]: He saw the fulfillment what was trampled to death of the city gate before he could partake.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_01]: But what about you?
- 7:49[SPEAKER_01]: What about me?
- 7:50[SPEAKER_01]: Do we disrespect or undermine the leadership of a pastor or spiritual leader, especially when that leader is trying to follow God's word?
- 8:00[SPEAKER_01]: We must be very careful.
- 8:02[SPEAKER_01]: Psalm 105-15 Touch Not Mine Anointed and do my prophets no harm.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_01]: This is a quote, I don't know, to attribute it to it's unknown, but it says this criticism is easy, but it takes a special kind of audacity to criticize God's man when he follows God's word.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_01]: If we were honest, are there men of God so called that a worthy of critique because of things they don't, oh sure, I'm one of them, all the time, I'm not perfect.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_01]: that at the end of the day, it's very likely that God's men have been criticized more for following God's Word than they were on the agenda.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_01]: Let's be careful.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_01]: There are times there places, but it should be more the exception than the rule.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_01]: God's work, God's worship, God's wealth, God's workmen, and lastly, God's word.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_01]: We don't have time to look at this, but the prophet from Judah in 1 Kings 13 long story short, he's sent with a message and he goes and delivers the message and is warned by God, do not go back the same way you came.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_01]: And an old prophet of God finds him comes across him and says, no, no, no, you got to come to my house.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_01]: You got to come back the same way.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_01]: And he does.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_01]: And he's told he's impressed upon by this man who says, I'm also a prophet of God.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_01]: I've also heard from God's Word.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_01]: And I, and you are supposed to go back the same way long story short.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_01]: And you get to read the context.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_01]: First King's 13 verse 1 throughout 32 is 20 verses to read right now.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_01]: I've left myself too short for time.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_01]: But he disobeyed God's direct command, even though a spiritual counselor tells him it's okay.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_01]: Now there's a balance here.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_01]: We gotta be careful.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_01]: But when you read something in God's word, and it is disagreed with by human mentality, or wisdom, or common sense, or logic,
- 10:11[SPEAKER_01]: you better go with God's word.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_01]: It didn't make sense for Abraham to offer Isaac.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_01]: God.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_01]: He was Isaac was a promise from God.
- 10:21[SPEAKER_01]: He had been given in their old age as a fulfillment of a promise that Abraham was going to be the father of many nations.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_01]: He was the father of of other people that could be numbered more than stars in the sky, sand in the seashore.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_01]: And so he's literally supposed to offer this promise.
- 10:38[SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't make any sense for him to kill Isaac, to offer Isaac as a sacrifice.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_01]: but he knew what God had told him to do.
- 10:47[SPEAKER_01]: It didn't make sense, but he knew what God wanted him to do.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_01]: And for this young prophet in first Kings, it made sense.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_01]: The old prophet was telling them what to do.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_01]: It's the right thing, right?
- 10:59[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_01]: If men dispute the message, go with God.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_01]: If man's wisdom disagrees with God's word, go with God's word.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_01]: When you mess with God's words, sudden destruction is bound to happen.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_01]: Lots of wife, disobeying God's command to not look back.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_01]: Despite the clear command, she turned back and was, she turned to a pillar of salt.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_01]: Ignoring clear biblical commands, you fill in the blank, purity, honesty, forgiveness,
- 11:36[SPEAKER_01]: There may be severe consequences because of that disobedience.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_01]: What happens if you cross some lines with God?
- 11:43[SPEAKER_01]: There may be no second chance.
- 11:45[SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes God's judgment is immediate and irreversible.
- 11:48[SPEAKER_01]: Hebrews 1026 for if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remain with no more sacrifice for sins.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_01]: No second chance, no sacrifice or confession.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_01]: We don't have time to look at it, but Samuel, telling Saul, that to obey is better than sacrifice.
- 12:08[SPEAKER_01]: And there's no staff for the consequences.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_01]: Some problems cause issues that cannot be fixed.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_01]: Proverbs 627, can a man take fire in his bosom and his clothes not be burned?
- 12:20[SPEAKER_01]: Can one go upon hot coals and his feet not be burned?
- 12:27[SPEAKER_01]: God's Word, God's workmen, God's wealth, God's worship, God's work.
- 12:34[SPEAKER_01]: Every time you think of Proverbs 29 and 1 or hear that verse and mention, I hope it's often.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_01]: I want you to think of the fact that God doesn't take lightly.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_01]: His people notice each of these people that would judge you harshly with God's people.
- 12:48[SPEAKER_01]: Props 29-1, key that being author-approved, hard-knit-his-neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that, without remedy.
- 13:02[SPEAKER_01]: Let's be careful, to avoid that sudden destruction in our lives, have a great day for His glory.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_01]: Thanks for listening.
