Transcript
- 0:00The following program is produced by the tech Talk Radio network, where the cable
- 0:04guy and you're listening to tech talk Radio. Welcome to another episode of tech
- 0:10Talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor, I'm Seanda, Weird Dan, I'm Slick.
- 0:15Thank you for joining us. We've got a lot to talk about in
- 0:18the world of tech. We've got some cool products to feature. If you
- 0:21haven't caught last week's video of the first ten minutes of the show where we
- 0:25talked about mid Journey and ais available for you to watch, including the picture
- 0:30samples, which we didn't get up by showtime, but you could certainly watch
- 0:34it now and listen to the segment again. With the different creations that Justin
- 0:39did with mid Journey and it's I mean, it's pretty amazing stuff. I
- 0:42had a couple of people who had no idea that it could do stuff that
- 0:46realistic, that photo realistic, the pumpkin spice ones. No, but the
- 0:50three guys doing the Tech show kind of we're kind of surprising, I'll be
- 0:55honest with I was kind of blown away by that it looked that good.
- 0:58Even though that's not us, so it's still create it's still creepy. It
- 1:02really is. I mean, it's creepy that it's not a real person,
- 1:06that it's a bits and pieces of different people and you know, the eyes
- 1:10and everything, and there's gotta be think about it. If you ever run
- 1:12into your doppelganger, somebody that looks like you, Yeah, I think I
- 1:15think everybody's got a doppelganger, right, It's got somebody that looks kind of
- 1:19like them. And then you get that whatever they call the matrical facts dejav
- 1:23with that type of thing. Right, So everybody's got somebody that looks like
- 1:25them or somebody that they think looks like them. Sean, I think kind
- 1:27of looks a little like the kid from Two and a half Men, like
- 1:30grown up? Now, have you ever got that? No? Why not?
- 1:34No? No, I've never That's that's something I've been associated with.
- 1:38But yeah, slick, have you ever been mistaken for somebody? Yes?
- 1:44Who's that? I'll never forget it? And this was I mean, this
- 1:47is way out feel for everyone, right, But Gil Scott Iran, Gil
- 1:53Scott Iran, who is that jazz musician? Really? Yeah? And you
- 2:00I this was back before the Internet when I was first told about this,
- 2:04right, this is I'm gonna say late seventies early eighties, and uh so
- 2:09I'm digging around trying to go to the library trying to find a picture of
- 2:13this guy, and I see one, and yeah, I do well I
- 2:16did. Let me put it away. Yes, I did look absolutely like
- 2:21Gil Scott Ran. Now I'm gonna have to look the guy up. I
- 2:23think Sean's doing that right now. He says that the revolution will not be
- 2:28televised. The revolution will not be televised. And what kind of music is
- 2:32jazz? Yeah, like the new fusion jazz. Yeah. Actually I did
- 2:37try to listen to some of his stuff, but sorry, man, a
- 2:39little bit, I would say, yes, currently still oh wow, yeah
- 2:44he just pulled it up on the screen. Yea. Yeah, I keep
- 2:46kind of I keep kind of see that. Yeah. Yeah. There there
- 2:52is an actor as well that I remember one day. Oh my gosh,
- 2:54he does look like you Slick. Really, I knew slick when his hair
- 2:58was that color. Yeah, but you know, but but you can you
- 3:05can say that slightly only because it started to change great when I was sixteen.
- 3:08No, he did it A little spot, A little spot radio started
- 3:13and it's and it's spread out that way. We made a trip one day
- 3:16and there's a video up on our YouTube page of taking Slick to the haircut
- 3:22to get a haircut. You remember that. Yeah, I was very unhappy
- 3:25that day. That was a lot of fun I have. Actually, when
- 3:30I used to round glasses and had a little different physique, I would get
- 3:37mistaken for John Landis, which is great because he's one of my favorite directors,
- 3:40you know, Guy Kentucky Fried Movie, Blues Brothers, so many different
- 3:45movies over the years. And uh, it really really made us open our
- 3:50eyes out when me and Mark and Mike, my friends, we actually drove
- 3:53onto the Universal lot. We drove to the gate, the guard looked at
- 3:57me and waved me on if we just drove our blue whimsy station wagon right
- 4:03there onto the parking lot. Park got out and went to the cafeteria.
- 4:08And that's when we realize, oh, wow, gee, I'm hoping I
- 4:12sense a road trip in our future. Not anymore, though I don't think
- 4:15so anymore. No, Sean said, you're much more better at that video
- 4:18compositing thing than I am editing and all, can you pull up a picture
- 4:21so we can compare Andy to Uh, oh, John Landis, let me
- 4:27let me google it here. So he's I think he's coming over there see
- 4:31Seawn's toys one day. I think he is a full grad. Yeah,
- 4:34Sean, uses you still use the A ten mini, don't you do?
- 4:39Yep, I've got one. I just never haven't hooked it up yet.
- 4:43I've got to actually hook up the cameras. There you go it he does.
- 4:48Look. Yeah, if you were the round glasses, yeah, this
- 4:53is a good one. This is what I had, the red glasses.
- 4:55Yeah. Oh wow, that is kind of scary. Here here an older
- 4:59picture. This is older. Yeah, definitely. Here's here's one that's the
- 5:01one from American Werewolf in London, and that's why I had a black Beard
- 5:05too. And we drove right onto the lot and it was pretty funny.
- 5:11But I said, it's a fund raising trip in our future to some Hollywood
- 5:15studios. Andy, that would be great, wouldn't it if you think about
- 5:17it. John Landis was here in Tucson. He also filmed The Three Amigos.
- 5:23He was the director of that movie as well. All right, but
- 5:26enough of that. Tech Wise, Sean, you did something kind of cool
- 5:30over the weekend. And what we love about this is sometimes you've got to
- 5:34unleash the tech and let it go and you did something fun that was kind
- 5:39of non tech. Oh yeah, So you know, we always talked about
- 5:42technology on the show, and a lot of times it's just nice to not
- 5:48deal with technology. So we went camping. How do you do that?
- 5:55Not check email and not I mean josen were were only one bars us into
- 6:00your phone, only updates livery three or four hours, and then you get
- 6:03fifty emails at the same time. Do you get anxiety though? I mean
- 6:06like, no, I don't. I used to when I was younger.
- 6:10Yeah, when when I used to, I don't anymore. And so the
- 6:16story involves a little bit of hicdowgy because earlier this summer we went camping,
- 6:21probably I want to say, in June, and there were these this couple
- 6:26one or two sites over that was playing a yard game I'd never seen before.
- 6:30You know, you have lawn darts, you've got cornhole, you've got
- 6:33ladder ball, you've got all these these They were playing a portable version of
- 6:41axe throwing. It was a plastic target. Plastic target, right. I
- 6:46sent pictures to Andy, but I don't think he got the email yet.
- 6:48And you stand, you know, fifteen to twenty feet away and you throw
- 6:53these plastic axes in it and they sticks in the board and it was probably
- 6:57the most fun I've had in a long time, just playing a yard game
- 7:01with my family and we cha, you know, we made up some of
- 7:03our own rules and we probably spent six hours Sunday night just playing our version
- 7:14of ax throwing in the middle of the woods where we were camping. And
- 7:18it was awesome. This looks like a lot of fun. And we had
- 7:21set up we had set up a light on the tree. We had strapped
- 7:25an led light to the tree, so it cast over the whole playing area
- 7:30and we played until almost midnight. I think I've heard of cornhole. I've
- 7:32heard of lawn darts, even lawn bowling. I guess, you know here
- 7:38it's a little hard to do because we have rocks and the ball goes everywhere.
- 7:42But but never heard of axe throwing. We had I had never seen
- 7:46it before this summer, and I just I set it up early in the
- 7:50morning and then told told one of my cousins, was like, look,
- 7:53I've got this new game. They're like, oh, we left your games.
- 7:56And then all right, right, axe right? Can you go to
- 8:00a bar and you throw it? Right? But this is like a portable
- 8:03version of ax strowing that you can just set up in your yard. You
- 8:07don't have to go. And it's not real axes. Right. Are the
- 8:11axes weighted or I mean they are? I mean there, they have a
- 8:15little bit of a half to them, but they're not going to hurt somebody
- 8:18if you hit them with it. It's kind of cool. Now where do
- 8:20you get these? Because you know somebody listening might be going well, I
- 8:24tuned in to find out how to get my right. This is this is
- 8:28where the tech part picks in. Right right, I saw it, I
- 8:31got out my phone, googled it. Oh, Costco has them cart by
- 8:39ship is that my house? Two days later? You know, I had
- 8:43this weirdest experience the other day, Uh Google, I use Google Photos.
- 8:46I know a lot of people people do that, right, And I was
- 8:50looking at something and I don't know what. I don't know what I hit
- 8:54on my phone, but it suddenly to highlighted certain products that were in the
- 9:00picture and showed where they were available for sale, and I thought, well,
- 9:05that's kind of different. Again. I don't know what I did or
- 9:09if that's said automatically, but it even provided a link where you could buy
- 9:13them and the whole bit just using you know, photos dot Google dot com.
- 9:16I've been seeing ads for those Unreddit ads for that specifically on Reddit.
- 9:20First it was plants. They had a thing for plants. Do you take
- 9:24a picture of a plant? It would identify the plant and tell you where
- 9:26you could buy the plant or more about it. But then you started seeing
- 9:30it identify products and images and give you links to it. So also it
- 9:33just scans images and ads and all of a sudden it's like, hey,
- 9:37this cup was made by Herman Miller or whatever, this lawn chair was made
- 9:43by whatever. It's all just from an image. Yeah, and it's scans
- 9:48it and finds the best deal for you through Google Shopping, which I'm sure
- 9:52Google gets a piece of, you know, But the best deal for you
- 9:58it's going to be different for me. No. Why Why is that?
- 10:01Because pricing is different on the Internet. So if you go to a website
- 10:05based on your location, your pricing could very well be different than what mine
- 10:09is. Oh I see what you're saying. Yeah, not only based off
- 10:11your taxes are different, your location is different price, the demand in your
- 10:18area may be different. Variable pricing is all around you because I've noticed it
- 10:24when I've bought something and then gone back to buy the same thing again or
- 10:28recurring purchase and the price has either been different or Caitlyn has seen a different
- 10:31price the same day. Right. Is it true though that if you're shopping
- 10:37online and I've heard people say this that you need to like try different browser
- 10:43or you know, try It's like, if you're you're using your shopping with
- 10:46Google, maybe shop with Edge or some people said Firefox, because what happens
- 10:52is, you know, you might look at it and you'll see a price,
- 10:54and then you'll go somewhere else the price to be a little higher.
- 10:58Yeah, that's what I'm saying. That's what I'm say. It's like you're
- 11:00either getting a website that is selling you a promotional ad that is paid,
- 11:07so they might drop the price a little bit more, so you buy it
- 11:11from them, right because they're gonna get a cut. It's sneaky, but
- 11:18it works, right, there's a way to make the sale. That's that's
- 11:22kind of cool. Do you guys, I'm want to slick. Do you
- 11:24use photos that Google? You can do? Right? Do? But I
- 11:28haven't noticed that. I don't want to call it a feature do I because
- 11:33that kind of bothers me. If I've got a photo and Google photoshoo you've
- 11:39taken maybe exactly yeah, and it's recommending, Hey, you want to buy
- 11:43this. I don't want to. You know, that's a little that's a
- 11:46little too much help Google. Yeah, now you're getting Now I'm really concerned.
- 11:50Yeah, because that means there's some AI looking at your photo that is
- 11:54saying, well, wait a minute, we can help him buy this.
- 11:56Because I've done this before where I go to Costco or go to say MS
- 12:00or even you know, Walmart or whatever, and I'll see something and I'll
- 12:03go, oh, I may want to buy that. At some point I'll
- 12:05take a picture of it. And I don't know if other people do this
- 12:09the same kind of thing. Recently, I saw the I think it's uh
- 12:13Energizer puts it out and it's a power bank that can you know, run
- 12:20your devices. If you say you're out in a picnic the Sean, this
- 12:24would be great for you. You're out in a picnic and you want to
- 12:26plug a laptop in, you can actually power the laptop and it comes with
- 12:31solar panels. So and it was like nine ninety nine bucks and the same
- 12:35thing happened. It took a picture of it, and then suddenly I started
- 12:39seeing an ad and you know, my feeds for that same type of product.
- 12:46It's happened when I've looked at furniture or if I've looked at well,
- 12:50I'm you know, I'm going to take that fa course, the part one
- 12:52oh seven and I followed through and I got you know, Sean sent me
- 12:56the information on it, and then I was looking at one of the us
- 13:00offered online. Now my feet is full of those part one oh seven training
- 13:03programs, you know, and and it does that so it learns from your
- 13:07shopping. I had a listener that had asked me about using you know,
- 13:13Google Photos. She got herself a brand new Motorola device, which of course
- 13:18Android, and she has h you know, Google Google on it her photos.
- 13:22She takes pictures and it puts them to the cloud. The problem is
- 13:28she wanted to get photos, older photos from her computer and put them onto
- 13:35her device. She couldn't. I couldn't understand how do you do that?
- 13:37And actually it's pretty easy to do. So if you've got a Google account,
- 13:45so you log on to your Google account, Google Chrome and you're gonna
- 13:48see and in an upload button. So you say you go to uh photos,
- 13:54Uh, just go ahead and get Google dot com. Once you're there,
- 13:58you'll see your photos, but you'll see upload in the top right.
- 14:03You can upload from your computer a Google drive, you can transfer from services,
- 14:09you can back up from your computer. But if you want to,
- 14:11you know, get those older photos that maybe you don't have on your smartphone
- 14:16from your computer. That's what's kind of cool about it. You could do
- 14:20it that way. And that was the step that she was missing. Couldn't
- 14:22figure out how to do it. And then I said, once you get
- 14:24them on your phone, then you can you can text those, you can
- 14:30send those, you can share them again. But that's a good way to
- 14:33do it if you want to send it via text or you just want to
- 14:37have them on your device. Yeah, the easiest way. So I've come
- 14:39across this where I've I've I have a lot of my old Facebook images and
- 14:46stuff on my Google Photos because when I got rid of Facebook, I was
- 14:48able to transfer all of my images from Facebook directly into Google Google Photos.
- 14:54Yeah, you can do that one step, just downloading them right, Yeah,
- 14:56once one step. It just moves them right in from Facebook right straight
- 15:01into your Google which is great. But I wanted to get some back onto
- 15:03my phone. And you can have the Google Photos app on your phone,
- 15:09but then it's difficult to get them onto your device. So the easiest way
- 15:13to do that is to share the photo from your device, and it gives
- 15:20you the option to download it, so you share it. Who do you
- 15:22share it with? You don't have to share it, you just click the
- 15:24share It's hidden. It's kind of hidden, a hidden thing within the share
- 15:28function, like there's no download option, Like you're you're gonna look at it.
- 15:33I want to download this picture. You don't think sharing would be the
- 15:37way to get a download link for it, But you click the share function
- 15:41and then it says, how do you want to share it? You can
- 15:43download it to your device? Okay, all right, So that's the way
- 15:46you can get them quickly off of Google Photos on your device, or something
- 15:52from Google Drive, like if somebody shares you an image or a video and
- 15:56Google Drive, same thing. Yep. The other way that I have found
- 16:00that works out really good is the that I expand drive from sand disc that
- 16:07I just I love. You know, you plug you install the app on
- 16:11your smartphone. You just take your whether it be USBC or a lightning lightning
- 16:17jack for your iPhones, and you get two of them. You know,
- 16:18you get one, you know what, one one on each end. You
- 16:22just plug it in and it will download all your all your phone, all
- 16:26your photos right off your smartphone, and then you can plug it into your
- 16:30computer and vice versa. You can plug it into your computer. Uh,
- 16:33if you've got USBC or an adapter, you plug it into your computer and
- 16:37you can copy them all off onto the onto that drive, plug it into
- 16:42your phone and transfer them up to your phone. That's another way to do
- 16:45it. But you know, some people don't want to spend the money for
- 16:48these one hundred, nineteen hundred and twenty nine dollars depending on the capacity you
- 16:52get. But those the eye expand from from uh sand disc is really good.
- 16:57I really like those. There's the thing about the Android phones that I
- 17:02appreciate is most of them, if not all. And I say that because
- 17:04there's got there's some rarities out there. You know. I just put in
- 17:08a micro SD card and generally generally save everything I really want to that card,
- 17:17the good old micro SD cards. Yeah, yeah, what did Apple
- 17:21do? Is Apple. Never did they ever have those. I don't think
- 17:23they ever created they allowed for that. I mean, not the Microwest cards.
- 17:30But I know for the iPads you can get a lightning adapter to plug
- 17:34in a st card to read from right right. I don't know if that
- 17:38works with the iPhones or things for that, but I know the iPad you
- 17:44could take pictures on your digital camera and then copy them into photos via the
- 17:48SD card. That was pretty cool to have that with the Android because I
- 17:52remember I had a Samsung Galaxy device and I remember I loved it because yeah,
- 17:57you had you had that card in it. You can take the card
- 18:00out and with a reader. What's the best reader out there? Because I've
- 18:03had problems with readers. I've had some some readers that don't work or after
- 18:07a while they can actually cause corruption, at least in my luck that I've
- 18:11had. Yeah, I still got an off brand reader that gives me problems.
- 18:15I got. I got one on my desk at the office and the
- 18:18one I carry around. And they're weird, you know, sometimes they work.
- 18:22Yeah, Well it's like it's it's like you run into it. It's
- 18:26like do you for me specifically? I know a lot of people are multi
- 18:32platform users Windows at Mac. Sometimes you get one that works with once platform.
- 18:37Sometimes you don't. Sometimes you get one that doesn't, and then you
- 18:40you know, then you encounter when you transition into a new OS. Does
- 18:42it work with Windows seven? Does it work with Windows ten? Does it
- 18:45work with Windows eight? Does it work with Mac os? Does it with
- 18:48Mac OS ten point five? Work Os ten points six point five? So
- 18:55it's it's hard to always find one. But you know, typically any of
- 18:59your normal USB C or USB three card readers are going to be decent,
- 19:03right, but you and your baby was a cheap skate to always get the
- 19:07cheap one first and didn't work by way up. Yeah, but I always
- 19:11seem to get you always have different speeds now on your reader, on your
- 19:15SD cards too now and so they might have a problem reading some of the
- 19:18newer ones. You know, if you've got it, Oh yeah, you're
- 19:19you're not gonna be able to go and get a Gen one USB reader and
- 19:25expect to read a Class ten two hundred and fifty six gig eight meg read
- 19:30wright speed card. Right, it's well, I am until it doesn't work,
- 19:34until it explodes, and let's get all the magic smoke exactly. It
- 19:38was with the adapter, no luck. All right. So we were talking
- 19:42about your your axe throwing and the vibe, which I think is cool.
- 19:48How much did it end up costing you? And where did you find it?
- 19:49I think I got it at Costco and I think shipped to my house.
- 19:53It was somewhere just over sixty years close to seventy bucks maybe shipped.
- 19:59Yeah, it was that much fun. Oh man, it was. We
- 20:02played it for hours. Yeah, and we made up a couple of our
- 20:06own variants, you know, root you know, play variants, and you
- 20:11know, there were we were probably rotating teams of two. We probably had
- 20:12about six teams of two, and then we just kind of rotated in and
- 20:17out. We're playing each other and stuff, and yeah, I can imagine
- 20:18it's only a plastic axte just stand in front of the targets trying to tip
- 20:22out the way before didn't know. The big The big test though is kids.
- 20:26When you have kids, did you have anybody under the age of fifteen
- 20:30or sixteen? There they know they're really the age gap is like twenty five
- 20:37and then like three, So there's really okay. Yeah, because you at
- 20:41that age group sometimes it's really hard to introduce him into something that doesn't have
- 20:45a screen or doesn't you know, doesn't you have any kind of technology to
- 20:52score. Yeah, there were no There were definitely no teenagers, no tweens.
- 20:56I mean you had a couple of my cousins kids who were two three
- 21:00years old, Max, he's two. I mean did he through them?
- 21:07But not? Well, like he throws everything else. You never know where's
- 21:11going to throw duck everybody duck. Yeah, I just I see, I
- 21:17got a I got a visual of this as kid and diaper right holding an
- 21:19axe or the this toy ax let's just say a toy ax. Yes,
- 21:23is that a real ax? Yeah? That that wouldn't be a good thing.
- 21:27Yeah. That We were talking real quickly about how you know companies will
- 21:33change uh through different oss, whether it be hardware software. Uh, there
- 21:40was an announcement made this past week. Uh and I'm I'm kind of bummed
- 21:44at that because I was a big word perfect user used word Perfect, loved
- 21:51it. That of course moved to Microsoft word and then I found when I
- 21:57was hired by that the company and I did national radio across the country on
- 22:03you know, different radio stations. I would do all my show prep in
- 22:07Microsoft WordPad because it was easy, uh, copy paste into it, write
- 22:14stuff, save it. And I have about six years of information, music
- 22:19information, tidbits of lifestyle info, you know anything that tech info, all
- 22:26in word Pad, documents RTF. Microsoft is officially announced after twenty eight years,
- 22:36it's saying goodbye to word Pad. Uh so word Pad will no longer
- 22:41be included in any future updates. And you may get an update and it
- 22:45may take it away. And while in twenty twenty they said they were kind
- 22:49of stopping it, they still made it available. People could still use it.
- 22:53I still use it to this very day. When you have a word
- 22:56Pad or RTF that corrupts, it's no fun because the good luck finding anything.
- 23:00And I thought about switching over the word since I use word but it's
- 23:06gonna be going away, and they're recommending, okay, well, if you're
- 23:08gonna do text documents, use notepad, or if you're gonna use our tf
- 23:14you or docs, you want to just use Microsoft word which to me was
- 23:18always too clunky and too much to get into. But I kind of wonder
- 23:22if Microsoft is doing this because they want people to use word I will I'm
- 23:26going to approach. This just from my experience. Okay, I used to
- 23:30work directly for Microsoft for five years. I worked in their technical support division.
- 23:33Right. I answered calls about all kinds of stuff, A lot of
- 23:37stuff I didn't know about, it had to learn about. WordPad was one
- 23:41of them. So my surprise. So Notepad and WordPad, what was told
- 23:48to me at the time that I worked for Microsoft, were never intended as
- 23:52consumer products. Really, Notepad was to do whatever you need to do just
- 23:56in pure text. WordPad because even I thought, oh it's you know,
- 24:02it's a it's a cheap word problem whatever thing. Yeah, Nope, No,
- 24:07it was to test rich text format. Because I remember I did work
- 24:11on some calls. I did work on some issues, some cases where people
- 24:15were having problems with Microsoft word and part of my troubleshooting technique was to take
- 24:23their document and view it through WordPad to see what was rendering, what was
- 24:29not rendering, and then reverse it create something in WordPad, opening up a
- 24:34Microsoft word to see what was rendering and what was not rendering. Right.
- 24:38So, and I mean, if we go start looking for the official documentation
- 24:42from Microsoft, is a good chance some of the official documentation regarding WordPad will
- 24:48state that is is not an official Microsoft consumer product. Yeah, well,
- 24:55Sean, you had kind of a and we were talking about that there,
- 24:57and I guess, you know, the whole intern face really the office interface
- 25:00with Office three sixty five. While some people may not be huge fans of
- 25:06it, you know, I was thinking about it. Okay, well,
- 25:08you've got Word, you've got you know, Excel, you've got you know,
- 25:12your your mail reader without look, So why not just have that on
- 25:15the desktop open you're scheduling all of that. Maybe maybe it would make sense
- 25:19just and I guess I can open my RTFs in Word and save them now
- 25:25as doc x and do it that way, and that way I always have
- 25:29a copy. It just seems so bulky, you know, And it was
- 25:33just created more of a file. But then I was talking to one of
- 25:36the guys here at the station. He said, well, think about this
- 25:37way. If you want a voice, you know, you want to voice
- 25:41dictate into it using Word, you'll be able to. Oh that's actually kind
- 25:45of cool, because you know some of us don't want to type all the
- 25:48time. We can actually voice dictate into it and we'd be able to use
- 25:52it that way, so a little more powerful with Word. But Sean,
- 25:56you you came up with an alternate. If somebody doesn't want to use you
- 26:00know, go to word or they don't want to use a note pad pad
- 26:06plus plus. Oh I love that product. Yeah no, no, Now
- 26:11this was created by Microsoft. But I don't know too much about the program
- 26:14itself. Uh, it's just another Nope, it's just another notepad. I
- 26:19don't really know how to explain it. You just have to download and use
- 26:22it. It's just it's much more than that, my friends is It's like
- 26:26yeah, I mean I don't use it, probably for what it's designed for.
- 26:30But it's just another notepad that's open source, it's free. It's yeah,
- 26:36many many years ago when I stumbled across that, man, I just
- 26:38fell in love because they had you could open multiple tabs in it. I
- 26:42mean, you had a lot of plug ins. You could do a lot
- 26:45of different things. I'm trying to remember one of the other things. I
- 26:48there was a plug in and I use okay think but you can create tables,
- 26:51you can create and it was I'm a big portable software guy. I
- 26:56always love to run my portable software off for USB drives and just unplug it
- 27:00and take it with me and just plug it somewhere else, the whole program,
- 27:03right, not just the documents exactly. Yeah. Yeah, and that's
- 27:07what what made me really fall in love with No No Pad plus plus and
- 27:11the guy who's doing it. I mean, I haven't used it in a
- 27:15while, uh, just because I've just been busy doing other things. So
- 27:18I've I've got it. I've got it saved on different flash drives with different
- 27:22notes. But the guy that does it, I mean, I just wonder
- 27:25how he keeps he stays on top of this thing. He's still taking donations
- 27:29and everything. Isn't he financial donations? Yeah, he's got us donate tab
- 27:33on his page and and you know, and about him. But No Pad
- 27:40plus plus. All right, we're gonna we gotta take a quick break.
- 27:42We come back. If you're looking for alternate programs, and we've mentioned it
- 27:45before, we're gonna we're gonna actually go over some of those when we come
- 27:49back. You definitely want to check out that website. I'm Andy Taylor,
- 27:52I'm Seandward Dad, I'm Slick, and you can find us on the web
- 27:56at tech talk radio dot com. We'll be right back now back to tip
- 28:00talk Radio. We found out during the break that Slick has not heard of
- 28:07Alternative two. Alternative It's one of my favorite websites. It's how I found
- 28:14out about Gimp back in the day. Oh yeah, gimp is a photo
- 28:17editor. It's how I've found about Cyberduck back in the day. Yep,
- 28:21it is a website. You go to Alternative The word alternative t o dot
- 28:26net. All right, Slick, you're gonna love this because, especially for
- 28:29somebody who likes you, like the budget software that you know saves a few
- 28:33bucks, but also can be used to find out what would be the best
- 28:37in your situation. Sean has told us about Alternative two a couple of years
- 28:41ago and still always some great fines on there. So the premise of this
- 28:45is finding alternative resources for a product or software that you like, mostly software.
- 28:52And since we just talked about WordPad, I went to Alternative two and
- 28:56they have written a blog post about alternatives too WordPad. So you type in
- 29:00a software that you have and it'll give you a list of open source alternatives
- 29:04to that product. Open source, now, is that the same as shareware
- 29:10or freeware? I mean with with some of the programs you find on Alternative
- 29:15two. You know you'll found oh you use it for thirty days and then
- 29:19you got to remove it. No open source, there are restrictions against what
- 29:26you can and can't do, and it's it has to be for the betterment
- 29:30of the community. An open source also means I have access to the source
- 29:34code, okay, so I can do whatever I want with it, well,
- 29:37whatever I want with it, but I can make my own mods or
- 29:41make my own additions or whatever. This is also a pretty safe community alternative
- 29:45too, because they kind of police it where they all test out the software
- 29:49and they can tell you, hey, this stuff has been tested. You're
- 29:53not going to be downloading something that's going to be bugged or have some malware
- 29:57on it. Getting it right from good hubs a good place to go too.
- 30:00So getting it riff from the source. I get that source. So
- 30:04I got it, Yeah, very good. So I in word Pad and
- 30:11the first thing that came up was Libra office. Oh, Libra open office.
- 30:15Yeah, which is a great open office source. Google doxes is it
- 30:19is an option? I didn't even think about that. Yeah, Microsoft word
- 30:23Taypora, I never heard of that. Scrivener never heard of that either.
- 30:27Focused writer Abbey word, notepad, and grid. There's a bunch I've had.
- 30:34I've had people asked me before for a for an office solution. They
- 30:37didn't want to spend the you know, ninety nine bucks a year for Microsoft
- 30:42Office, so they'll go ahead, and you know what, what's a good
- 30:45I forgot Libra. Open Office is phenomenal because it'll lets you do pretty much
- 30:51everything you need to do in say Office. There's not all the bells and
- 30:56whistles that you get with Office, but you could still get a lot of
- 30:59stuff done with it. You've viewed I know, Slick, you've used it.
- 31:03I have used it. It's on almost every machine I own. Yeah,
- 31:08you can even do rtfls on that, Andy, I didn't you think
- 31:12about that? Yeah? Yeah, yeah, you'll just jump straight to Microsoft
- 31:15Work. What is it with you had these large corporations? Well, I'm
- 31:22paying for it. I mean I've already paying for it because you know,
- 31:27I had to have more than you know, two installs on it, so
- 31:30I just went that route. But I never even thought about Open Office on
- 31:33it. If you actually tried that, Sean, here's open Office. Yeah,
- 31:38yeah, I've got it installed on my computer. It's my go to
- 31:41my parents when they were like, I don't want to pay for Microsoft three
- 31:45sixty five or whatever open office, mom downloaded. Yeah, it's just you.
- 31:51I'm just the only one there. You know, it's and and you
- 31:53know, at an enterprise level, right, sometimes it's just easier on mass
- 31:57too, follow the trend and pick whatever it's used to right, right,
- 32:02But if you go open office, you don't have to pay an absurd amount
- 32:07of money to Google or to Microsoft or to whoever. Yeah. Now,
- 32:13having said that, having said that, if you have money, some of
- 32:16us get some of us poor broke. But if you have money, please
- 32:21give them some money people. Yeah, for sure. You know, anytime
- 32:25you downloaded the right, please give us a PayPal donation or a bitcoin or
- 32:30whatever. Yeah. Even even Wikipedia asks for money, a couple of bucks
- 32:36for a program that you will probably use a ton for convenience. You can
- 32:42pitch them five or six blocks. What are some of the all right,
- 32:45So say you're you're at the computer, you're at Alternative too, And what's
- 32:49the website address our listeners that maybe you want to follow along they are looking
- 32:52for a solution. What is that's it's the word alternative ALT E R N
- 32:58A T I V e t O dot net. Okay, on the remember
- 33:06the Acasso camera that I looked at, the action camera. I showed it
- 33:09on television and you know, it was cool because you know, it has
- 33:13two battery chargers. It's a lot cheaper than the Go Pro. There were
- 33:16some people on one of the forums I was on and they were asking,
- 33:21they say, well, now that I've got this and I've got this action
- 33:22footage, how do I edit it? And you know, some people were
- 33:27saying, well, get the Premiere Pro subscription, you know from Adobe,
- 33:30which is great. But people if there's budget wise on the camera, that
- 33:35might want to be budget wise on their software. If you were to do
- 33:37video editing software on Alternative two, did you come up with anything? Well,
- 33:42I would tell them right now. Da Vinci Resol Resolved, DaVinci Resolve
- 33:46hundred percent. Get yourself a decent Windows based machine with a decent GPU in
- 33:52it, and you are going to be set with da Vinci Resolved. The
- 33:55non studio version is free, okay, so get it, use it,
- 34:01learn it for free? Is it as And that's the first thing that came
- 34:06up. What I typed in Premiere vid you resolved. That was the first
- 34:08thing in alternative? Do they came up? Does you resolved? Get it?
- 34:14Does it allow you to cut scenes? Does allow you to do wipes?
- 34:17Dissolves? It is a it is a literal, full nonlinear editing platform.
- 34:23Wow. Now you can go and buy the studio version and get all
- 34:27the fancy color correction and the studio quality stuff. But it's free. Get
- 34:32it. Yeah, very easy. It's very easy to learn, okay,
- 34:37And it's a powerful tool. If you're at at all technically inclined and like
- 34:42cutting together videos and photos, you were gonna have no problem learned jumping in
- 34:45and learning resolve. What about it for audio? Okay? So I've people
- 34:52have asked me this before, and I want to know if my what I
- 34:55suggest to people who don't want to spend the money on a w audition in
- 35:00or you know, Sony Sony software that they might want to use for that.
- 35:06Uh. I've always said Audacity. Yeah, that's the number one,
- 35:10number one. Yeah, yeah, that's again without even looking That's what I've
- 35:15told people. Audacity. It's mind numbingly easy to use, right, Oh,
- 35:22I'd go that far, But I mean I think it's easy. I
- 35:25mean, it's like you should you should be able to understand it. But
- 35:29radio background, right, I can understand it to a point. I even
- 35:32I've even now downloaded a manual. I've got a full manual on it for
- 35:37audacity. They have a manual. Yeah, there's a handbook. Man.
- 35:42You know, I love handbooks. I love manuals. I love having them
- 35:45available. So I could just look up something, because you know, I
- 35:46don't can't forget this. Yeah, I look it up and boom, there
- 35:50it is. But I mean, audacity is not hard. It's not difficult,
- 35:52but it's not easy. I won't say that it's coming from radio background.
- 35:55I can say that people not coming from a radio background, or or
- 36:00working regular consistently with audio, it might take a few minutes. Yeah,
- 36:06I don't know. I think it's really easy to use, and it works
- 36:08really well for us to integrate it with especially when you can integrate multiple channels
- 36:13from like a Dante to Dante source. You can do multi track recording with
- 36:15it, so it works out really great for our platform. Somebody I once
- 36:20recommended that if you have an older computer that you want to use just for
- 36:23creativity, that and you don't put any other programs other than you know,
- 36:28your operating system that sometimes some of these free programs can work out pretty good
- 36:31and make your computer full function without you having to spend a ton of money
- 36:35on them. I recommend that if you and and the specter or debatable.
- 36:40So let's I'm gonna try and say safely, sixteen gigabytes are ram okay,
- 36:46uboot too studio, oh a boot Now you see you're going in a whole
- 36:52different direction there for people that. Yeah, that people that, but that's
- 36:55on an older computer. Yeah, but a lot of people don't know how
- 36:59to get a bootoo and they don't know how to install it. I know,
- 37:02and we should say probably that a Bootoo studio is a full operating system
- 37:07with a suite of applications, programs for video and audio, et cetera,
- 37:13art, et cetera. It's been a while since I've installed in bootoo.
- 37:15I'm about to. I've I've downloaded an image of a bootoo from a Bootoo
- 37:22studio from a Bootoo, and I just need to burn it, if you
- 37:25will, and flash it to a USB flash drive and then install it on
- 37:30a machine. I've done it before. I just don't have one active right
- 37:34now, and I just kept it as my I kept one one unit as
- 37:38my my go to creative platform. One of the other questions that we get
- 37:43asked a lot is antivirus programs. Does Alternative to offer VPN or annivirus in
- 37:51that case where maybe somebody could be better protected, because you'll have people that
- 37:54say, well, I've got AVG, or I've got a VAST or I've
- 37:57got malware bytes, and you know, suddenly they've gone past the thirty days
- 38:01and they get the nag screen that keeps popping up or they're no longer protected.
- 38:07That can be a real challenge if people don't want to spend the money
- 38:08out to you know, e set or a chronics, which is you know,
- 38:14which is a great program, or even semantic. Yeah, I mean
- 38:17I don't know if I would skimp on the security side of things. Yeah,
- 38:22I don't know if I would. I mean, yeah, I trust
- 38:24Alternative too to find me other softwares that are good, But I'm not sure
- 38:30if I'm going to start downloading independent developed malware tools and stuff, right,
- 38:37You're gonna have to kind of go with something's a little bit more industry standard
- 38:39or industry trending. Right, So I typed in Norton and it brought me
- 38:45malware bites is the first one clam and have harriss have heard of? Yeah,
- 38:52a vass spybot searching destroy Oh my god, spy as Sky, which
- 38:57is uh their own first key. I thought it was Casper Sky. I
- 39:06like Casper Sky. I like it too. What is it actually, caper
- 39:12Sky sounds like it was made Montana. I think it's Russian, isn't it,
- 39:16Because all that makes sense. I did not think it was. I
- 39:20don't know. Yeah, and there's a couple of the ones that I had
- 39:22not heard of, but I mean he said, is in there AVG.
- 39:27There's one that I used for for a good amount of time and a first
- 39:30saw c Cleaner, Yeah clean. Yeah. So I quit using ce cleaner
- 39:36after they had an internal hack. Oh yeah, and and somebody was able
- 39:40to in their back end inject malware into an executable that so when you downloaded
- 39:46it from their site, it came with the malware, right. So I
- 39:52quit using sea Cleaner after that, just because I felt like that that was
- 39:55a little too much, like you're supposed to be security. Somebody got in
- 40:00got in your back door, that kind of tell you. So I feel
- 40:05like a sea cleaner is at the bottom of my list for those syp but
- 40:08the top one they recommended there was malware bytes, right, And I know,
- 40:12yeah, you're using You've used the enterprise version of that too, and
- 40:15you've been pretty happy with it. It is we That is what we have
- 40:20at work. Also, it runs on all of our machines at work and
- 40:22it runs great. But I use it here at home and I paid the
- 40:27forty nine dollars a year or whatever it is or something to have it,
- 40:30and it keeps you safe. I guess it now works. I haven't had
- 40:36any major compromises on my machine. Who knows, that could be a Russian
- 40:38bot farm for all I know. Now, some people with that cast fer
- 40:44Sky software. Yea, the casper Sky I love that. With the malwarebytes,
- 40:51I know that. You know. Somebody has asked before, well,
- 40:52how do you know if your computer is infected or they have different issues?
- 40:59And I have, Well, one way to do it is download mail road
- 41:01Bytes onto a clean machine, onto a clean USB drive that's not been installed
- 41:07in the machine in question, and run it that way. And that way
- 41:12you can put it onto that infected laptop or computer and you can run a
- 41:17scan and see if there's some issues there and sometimes it could be some pro
- 41:21I've had in the past where you run that scan and it's like WHOA,
- 41:24I've found a lot of problems on the system. So some to think about.
- 41:29All Right, we gonna take another quick break. We come back.
- 41:30A couple of cool products I showed on television, and I definitely want to
- 41:35give you a look at one that's coming up on Monday that you'll be able
- 41:37to see with more of tech Talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor, I'm Sean
- 41:42de Weird did I am slick and you can find us on Twitter or x
- 41:46at tech Talk Radio and now back to tech Talk Radio. So coming up
- 41:52on Monday on campus be Fox eleven and I'm pretty excited I'm gonna be showing
- 41:57something that is a good solution. Now, we've talked about George Devices for
- 42:01backing up old hard drives SSDs. There's so many different ones out there and
- 42:07so many different manufacturers, and SA Brent has been one that we've featured before
- 42:12in the show. But the question has come up now with so many people
- 42:15now being able to move to M two technology, I don't do you use
- 42:20an M two drive in your systems? Sean, because I know you just
- 42:22built one, right, I have one, and I have a slot for
- 42:24a second if I don't want it. Yeah, I'm using both. I
- 42:28have an Emptwo Black and an Emptwo Blue from Western Digital in my machine.
- 42:31Are you using M two tech yet? I have? Yeah, I've got.
- 42:35I've got mto tech in a few and a couple of machines. And
- 42:38there's I guess there's there's something that's something new. Yeah it is, and
- 42:44you know, a lot of people don't realize the benefit of it. You
- 42:45know, with the older hard drives, there's spinny as we call them.
- 42:49The Sean gave it the name spinning hard drive. What happens if you drop
- 42:52it, bang it too hard or simply the mechanics of the drive can basically
- 42:57fail. You have moving parts and that can render your drive useless. So
- 43:02or you have a newer computer, it's got its seta, it doesn't have
- 43:06the pins, so you know you've got then you've got this old drive laying
- 43:08around. You still have data on it, maybe, so you access it
- 43:12with a caddy. But the problem is is their caddies for M two's now
- 43:17that people want to like, I've got a one terabyte. I want to
- 43:21move up to a two Western Digital recently announced for a terabyte. So I
- 43:24did some searching and I found a sub brent USB three point one M two
- 43:31enclosure and I'm gonna be showing this along with a new M two. But
- 43:38this is what's so cool about it is I'm gonna show it to the guys
- 43:42here. Basically, it's a device that you can open up. Then you
- 43:46can slide an M two drive into the enclosure, so that way, if
- 43:51you have an old this is what's cool about it. It comes with across
- 43:53a software, so you can clone an M two connected to a working computer
- 44:00where you can upload the disk image and then put your new M two in
- 44:04and actually make a clone from that onto a new M two. So maybe
- 44:08you're just increasing it in size to you know, a two terabyte or four
- 44:13terabyte, and you don't have those restrictions that you may have. Uh,
- 44:16so you're able to do this just like you could with an SSD or even
- 44:21with an older IDE drive. And it's it's actually really sturdy aluminium and get
- 44:30hot, yeah they do. The newer M twos have heat sinks on them,
- 44:35which is good. But this one from Sebrante. I think I've paid
- 44:38it even it came Look at this. It even came with a screwdriver.
- 44:42That's what I love about Sebrante. Oops and and uh oops, we're still
- 44:47holding a screwdriver. Worry. You never want to hear the computer guys say.
- 44:52Oops. I think I ended up paying maybe forty or fifty bucks for
- 44:58this, But again, and it's a pathway for me to be able to
- 45:00work with the M two technology, because that's been the big question. Let
- 45:05me ask you this, the first time you ever put an M two drive
- 45:07on a motherboard, did you feel like you were gonna break it? Yes?
- 45:10Yeah, it's like a so how would you describ It's like a like
- 45:14a memory springboard? Yeah? Or it was gonna fly right out. Yeah.
- 45:17And when you put it, when you slide it it, you put
- 45:20it in like a forty, you bend it down and then it's like,
- 45:22oh, you better have the standoff ready to screw in, otherwise you left
- 45:27the thing that I felt like it was gonna launch right out of the motherboard
- 45:29like a spoon, or it launched the screw across the room. And good
- 45:31luck finding those, they're really small. I'm glad I'm not the only one
- 45:35that felt that way. Yeah. The other thing about M twos is you've
- 45:38got to remember when your case, you get your case or you know,
- 45:43maybe your packaging. It came with a computer you bought that has M too
- 45:45on it. Uh, you're those little screws. They're very small and so
- 45:50you know, plugs into a little slot on board. Again, you push
- 45:52it down like it's gonna you know, springboard it, but you hold it
- 45:55down. But you gotta have those little screws. Don't just throw them away
- 45:59thinking I'll never use because those are what will hold that M two into place
- 46:04on your motherboard. So there standard screws like for SSDs or other drives,
- 46:08they're pretty small. They're not they're not definitely, they're not the same screws
- 46:13that go on the actual motherboard itself, like to put it into the slot.
- 46:16Yeah, there might be a standard I'm gonna look it up and tell
- 46:19you, I don't know. It's probably really tiny. But standards, that's
- 46:22what the people we're talking about, the sizes of screws for hard drives are
- 46:29they really talking about? Yes they are, and can you believe it?
- 46:30Yes, all the hard time is M two is actually a standard for screw
- 46:36sizes. So I can't just type M two screw size because it's gonna give
- 46:38me an it's kind of own size. You can you can order them,
- 46:42you know, if you lose them. That's the nice thing about Amazon or
- 46:45the internet. You can always you can always order a bag of screws and
- 46:50or even go locally go to SWS or you know the guy here in Green
- 46:52Valley and you can you can probably buy a bag of screws from them.
- 46:57The other product I showed on television and I love that one. This one
- 47:00is super cool. So this is the shift Cam snap grip. And what
- 47:07it does is it turns your smartphone into It doesn't turn it into a DSLR,
- 47:14but it almost is like a DSLR because you have a button that triggers
- 47:16a photo on the top, connects via Bluetooth. You connect with a mag
- 47:22safe to the device right and holds it in place, and then with Bluetooth,
- 47:28you know, turn on. It turns into a really smooth video or
- 47:34still. I just realized when I saw you show that on television, this
- 47:37is uh for Android and iOS. Correct, yes, because I didn't realize
- 47:43it. I have to when you showed it on TV. I was thinking
- 47:45iOS. I was thinking Apple I Phone, well with the mag safe cases,
- 47:49and you know, it plugs on the back of that, which is
- 47:52pretty cool, but again you've got a real sturdy almost like shooting with a
- 47:54DSLR. But it does come with an adapter, a magnetic adapter that can
- 48:00go on the back of this and then connect on the back of the Android
- 48:04device. So if you don't have a mag safe for your Android or even
- 48:07an older iPhone that doesn't have it. But it does do a charge of
- 48:09via the g QI standard, it'll it'll actually charge the device, whether it
- 48:15be Android or iPhone. And these are not that expensive seventy nine bucks.
- 48:22But they have a whole bunch of stuff. If you go to their website
- 48:24for shift Cam, they make a tripod that could be used with this.
- 48:30They make lights, they make microphones all for your smartphones to just give you
- 48:35a better experience. And again, what would be really cool if they included
- 48:38a battery internally that would use the magma to wires the charger. I was
- 48:44kind of thinking about that, but Sean spoke it, yeah, oh yeah,
- 48:46no, it does. It actually has a charge a battery that can
- 48:52be charged up, and it will. As soon as you connect it,
- 48:55it starts charging. So how you're thinking is using the ch charge like when
- 49:00you go to bed at night and you you you charge your phone that way,
- 49:05right. I have a mount next to my bed, I put my
- 49:07phone on it and it charges right right right? Why can't that charge my
- 49:13phone while I use it? And that's what's cool because it does. It
- 49:15does have that and you charge it up via USBC comes with all the cabling
- 49:21that you need, the whole bit. When the phone's attached, it automatically
- 49:24starts charging. Yeah. So yeah, no, it's it will automatically start
- 49:30charging, is what you're talking about. Perfect, So that's that you definitely
- 49:34need to describe that as a function of the device because all right, so
- 49:37I think a lot of people are going to confuse it with just a device
- 49:40that hooks up and takes pictures and stuff like what you're saying. So we'll
- 49:45actually start charging your phone, which is pretty cool. Yeah, it right
- 49:47as soon as you attach the phone if you could see it says charging perfect,
- 49:54ask that question. So good, And it's not like the ten thousand
- 49:59million amp battery that I have in that my charge It will it will give
- 50:02it a pretty good charge though, I mean while you're or while you're out
- 50:06shooting, you don't have to worry too much about it. But again,
- 50:08yeah, you've got a full charge right here and it's charging up and it's
- 50:12connected via Bluetooth. So yeah, okay, I didn't understand what you were
- 50:15saying there, so that's perfect. So I showed these and they were cool,
- 50:19and I'm thinking, I'm actually gonna buy this the company that sent it
- 50:22to me and I'll send it back, but I'm gonna order. I probably
- 50:24order the full kit because the full kit actually has tripod and it has the
- 50:30has a I believe it has a light that goes with it as well.
- 50:34I know what battery size has come with it as well, because I mean,
- 50:37if you're shooting video, it's gonna burn through quite a bit of old
- 50:39Yeah, I know. It's like I said, it's not like the my
- 50:43Charge that has the ten thousand million amp, which is a hub which I
- 50:45love. But again, it just feel a little more safer being out somewhere
- 50:51shooting. And again you can find all their products available on the web at
- 50:54shift Cam Empowering Mobile Creativity, which I kind of like big game this week.
- 51:02Game out, not no no, no, no, Dame playing bass
- 51:05football or whatever they're playing this week. There is there is not a home
- 51:08game. So that's fine. Well, last week we talked about Balder's Gate
- 51:12three, and the week before we talked about and played it. Yet you've
- 51:15played it, you liked it. But this week, see now I'm torn.
- 51:19I was gonna go ahead and get Balder's Gate three after your recommendation.
- 51:22But now there's this one that a lot of people are talking about called Starfield,
- 51:28and it's for Microsoft and the Xbox. It's the first game that Bethesda
- 51:32is putting out after Microsoft, you know, kind of acquired them, and
- 51:37it's their first big game. And people are talking about this open world game
- 51:40that covers just about everything in space exploration, and they're saying it's it's a
- 51:46fun game and it goes into many different subjects including I mean there's a little
- 51:52bit of theology in there, which I think is pretty cool. Is they're
- 51:54exploring other planets and you know, checking it out, and you might go
- 51:58to a planet and would be nothing there, go to another one and you'll
- 52:00have creatures that want to eat you. So you might look for that star
- 52:06field and again a lot of people have been talking about that. All Right,
- 52:07gonna take another quick break. We will come back with more of tech
- 52:12talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor, I'm Sean to Weird Dan, I'm Slick.
- 52:15Find us on Facebook, Facebook dot com, Forward slash tech Talkers.
- 52:20We'll be right back and now back to tech talk Radio. Well, we
- 52:23just finished talking about shift cam and the snap break product that I was able
- 52:29to show on television. You can actually check out the video. It's up
- 52:30on our YouTube page for tech talk Radio. You can also view it on
- 52:36our website at tech talk radio dot com. But during the break, Sean
- 52:38has actually been on the shift cam website taking a look at some of the
- 52:43different products that they offer. Oh, they've got lens, they've got lenses
- 52:45for cameras. They've got a program which is bigger, a little beefeater,
- 52:50a little bit longer battery life. They've got LEDs, they've got bicolor panel,
- 52:54led panels. I mean, there's there's some cool stuff on this that
- 52:59you can do if you're a vlogger or if you're looking to just add a
- 53:02little bit of extra snazzy to your podcasting set up. These are really cool
- 53:07you said lenses in they're thinking, wait, can I put lenses on my
- 53:10smartphone? Yeah, there are ways you can get lenses for your phone that
- 53:16fit over the backside, wide angle lenses and amorphic lenses, all sorts of
- 53:22stuff. So they've got a full kit that has seven different lenses in it
- 53:24for a thousand bucks. When you think about it, the optics on our
- 53:29smartphones, whether you're using an Android and then of course the iPhones, the
- 53:32optics are just really good, so much so that a lot of the companies
- 53:37that have made dflrs have kind of back tracked on those and now they're making
- 53:43you know, mirrorist cameras instead, But still the optics are just great.
- 53:46That's shift cam dot com. I remember there was a company that made a
- 53:52lens that you could fit onto the top of your smartphone and it was cool
- 53:55because you could just flip it so you had a fish I or a acro
- 54:00if you wanted to have that. They were like thirty five bucks at the
- 54:04time. It doesn't work within the newer devices, but actually it was pretty
- 54:07cool back then. But if shift cam is doing that for your current smartphones,
- 54:12then why not do you get those microscope add ons? As well.
- 54:15Right, you can get microscope add ons or cameras that connect to your phone,
- 54:19vo Wi Fi, those types of things. All right. So we
- 54:21published a meme on our Facebook page and the meme says, am I the
- 54:24only one now as we got older, that you actually take a picture of
- 54:28something and then you look at the picture and zoom in to read the label
- 54:32because you know the small print as you get older eyes. I mean I
- 54:36do that. But then somebody come in and why don't you use the microscope
- 54:38app? Wait? Is there a microscope app app? I've never heard of
- 54:42seeing a microscope app. There probably is. There's an app for everything these
- 54:45days. Wow. So I don't have to take a photo, but I
- 54:49do the photo so I can remember what I was looking at. Getting old
- 54:52is wonderful. All right, that's it for this week's tech Talk Radio.
- 54:58That website again, shift cam dot com. Is that it shiftcam dot com.
- 55:02Check it out, Len's Grip Snapgrip program, LEDs travel pods and just
- 55:07it's it's a cool deal for your phone. All right. Well, we
- 55:09invite you to visit our website at tech talk radio dot com. Please have
