  here today. You know, when I was back home
• 1:36
  and in the District over the weekend, everywhere I went to
• 1:39
  grocery store, walking around the park, doing anything, people
• 1:43
  were coming up to me asking about Social Security.
• 1:46
  And I think a lot of people are worried and scared right now.
• 1:49
  I think part of it has to do with a lot of the myths and
• 1:52
  disinformation that's going around.
• 1:54
  I mean, we've heard this constant lie from Elon Musk that
• 1:58
  10s of millions of dead people are getting Social Security
• 2:02
  paychecks. Claiming fraud.
• 2:05
  And Social Security, I think is one way that folks are going to
• 2:08
  justify cutting it, pocketing the benefits for billionaires,
• 2:11
  privatizing it. Miss Kosilek, Elon Musk is now
• 2:17
  calling Social Security a Ponzi scheme.
• 2:20
  How concerned are you that Social Security is a Ponzi
• 2:23
  scheme? I don't think we have seen
• 2:27
  indications in our work that that is the case.
• 2:31
  Musk is calling it a Ponzi scheme as an excuse to destroy
• 2:34
  it. In my opinion, Americans earn
• 2:36
  Social Security, three years of hard work, and it's a good
• 2:39
  investment. It could be a better investment
• 2:41
  for Black men because we're pretty much donors because we
• 2:43
  live less time. But that's another conversation
• 2:47
  for another time. It's one of the most popular
• 2:49
  government services. And most people support more
• 2:52
  funding for Social Security, not less.
• 2:54
  Miss Wagner, You know, people want shorter wait times,
• 2:58
  payments processed more quickly. But at the same time, the
• 3:01
  administration wants to cut 7000 employees from the
• 3:04
  administration. Yesterday somebody from my
• 3:06
  office called Social Security 30 days to process something on
• 3:11
  retirement, 30 days on Medicaid, 230 days as it relates to
• 3:15
  disability. What would be the effects of
• 3:19
  these cuts to the Social Security Administration right
• 3:21
  now? When staff shrinks, there are
• 3:23
  fewer people to take appointments to answer phones,
• 3:25
  to process applications for different benefits and that
• 3:28
  hurts people nationwide. And in addition to their own
• 3:31
  staff, Social Security Administration funds state
• 3:34
  Disability Determination Service employees who decide whether
• 3:37
  applicants disabilities are severe enough to qualify for
• 3:40
  benefits. Their processing time was
• 3:42
  already at a record high of seven months and we expect cuts
• 3:46
  will have further impact. In addition, 7 in 10 of Social
• 3:49
  Security staff do serve the public directly.
• 3:51
  So this will have a major impact on customer service.
• 3:54
  Thank you. It's and it's not just, you

  know, billionaires like Elon Musk who are going around
• 3:58
  attacking it. My own Florida Senator Rick
• 4:01
  Scott, the richest person in Congress, which are the topic of
• 4:04
  fraud. You know, my senator made
• 4:06
  history. He's the man responsible for the
• 4:09
  largest Medicare fraud in the history of this country, $1.7
• 4:12
  billion. He says that Republicans are
• 4:14
  going to have to cut Social Security and quote, why are they
• 4:19
  doing this? Well, to take money from Social
• 4:21
  Security to use it for tax cuts for people who are too rich to
• 4:24
  need it. House Republicans plan to make
• 4:26
  $880 billion in cuts to health care.
• 4:29
  This means cuts to Medicaid and Medicare, too.
• 4:32
  Miss Wagner, Four and eight American children are Medicaid
• 4:35
  recipients, including over 60,000 people in my district
• 4:39
  alone. For an Orlando family currently
• 4:41
  receiving Medicaid, what could be the financial fallout from
• 4:44
  losing access to Medicaid? Well, first, when states are
• 4:49
  forced to cut back on funding, they are going to cut back on
• 4:52
  who's eligible and the benefits they receive.
• 4:54
  But cuts will have broader impacts than just those who are
• 4:57
  no longer eligible. They will directly or indirectly
• 5:00
  affect the amount of funds available for state staff, for
• 5:02
  IT systems that support Medicaid.
• 5:05
  And they'll probably lead to more improper payments and
• 5:07
  reduce program integrity. And it will impact people who
• 5:10
  even whose eligibility isn't cut longer call center wait times,
• 5:13
  more errors, uncertainty, stress, and possibly not be able
• 5:16
  to get approved for benefits or losing coverage at renewal even
• 5:19
  though they remain eligible. Thank you.

  You know, before coming to Congress, I worked in
• 5:24
  organizations and one of the proudest things I did was work
• 5:28
  at March for Our Lives. They came after the shooting
• 5:29
  that happened in Parkland. I traveled this country speaking
• 5:33
  with people that disagreed with me on the issue of gun violence,
• 5:36
  but it made me a better person. And something I learned during
• 5:40
  my travels is in order to speak about something in a bipartisan
• 5:45
  way, I think it's really important to make sure people
• 5:47
  are coming at this on the right foot in good faith.
• 5:52
  And I'm all for the modernization of our government.
• 5:54
  I think it's really important. And I say that's the youngest
• 5:57
  person in the United States Congress.
• 5:58
  I think it is very important, but when I see the people
• 6:03
  leading the effort like Elon Musk call something like Social
• 6:07
  Security a Ponzi scheme and I hear crickets on the other side
• 6:11
  of the aisle, I have a really hard time taking any of this
• 6:16
  seriously. When I go home and I have people
• 6:18
  coming up to be. In the grocery store.
• 6:20
  Who are living? Paycheck to paycheck asking me.
• 6:23
  What are you going to do to? Protect Social Security.
• 6:26
