- Lucas: Luna, welcome back to Learn Amharic with Fexingo. Ready for today's tiny lesson? Luna: More than ready. I've been practicing my vegetables from last time — carrots, onions, cabbage, garlic. I can almost say them without thinking. Lucas: That's fantastic. And today we're going to build on that. If you're cooking with those veggies, what do you need to eat them with? Luna: A spoon? A fork? Something like that? Lucas: Exactly. Kitchen utensils. And since Fexingo has been helping you make actual progress with Amharic, we want to keep this show ad-free. If you'd like to support that choice, you can find us at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Every bit helps us keep going. Luna: Yeah, it means a lot that we can focus purely on learning without interruptions. So today, utensils — let's dig in. Lucas: Let's start with a basic one: spoon. In Amharic, spoon is ማንኪያ. Say it with me: ማንኪያ. Luna: ማንኪያ. Lucas: Good. Now fork: ሹካ. Luna: ሹካ. That one feels a bit like 'shooka'. Lucas: Right. And knife: ቢላዋ. Luna: ቢላዋ. That's a mouthful. Lucas: You'll get it. Say it slowly: ቢላዋ. Luna: ቢላዋ. Okay, I think I've got it. Lucas: And plate: ሳህን. Luna: ሳህን. So if I want a spoon, I'd say ማንኪያ እፈልጋለሁ. Lucas: Perfect. And if you're asking where the plate is? ሳህኑ የት ነው? Luna: ሳህኑ የት ነው? — where is the plate? Lucas: Exactly. Let's practice these in a little scene. Imagine you're setting the table. I need a spoon: ማንኪያ እፈልጋለሁ. Luna: ማንኪያ እፈልጋለሁ. Lucas: Now I need a fork: ሹካ እፈልጋለሁ. Luna: ሹካ እፈልጋለሁ. Lucas: And a knife: ቢላዋ እፈልጋለሁ. Luna: ቢላዋ እፈልጋለሁ. That's a lot of utensils. Lucas: And where are the plates? ሳህኖቹ የት ናቸው? Luna: ሳህኖቹ የት ናቸው? — plural plates. I see how we add ኖች. Lucas: You're catching on. Let's do a quick review. Spoon? Luna: ማንኪያ. Lucas: Fork? Luna: ሹካ. Lucas: Knife? Luna: ቢላዋ. Lucas: Plate? Luna: ሳህን. Lucas: Great. Now can you ask for a spoon at a restaurant? Luna: ማንኪያ እፈልጋለሁ. Lucas: And where's the knife? Luna: ቢላዋው የት ነው? Lucas: Perfect. You're ready to set the table in Amharic. Luna: I feel like I could actually do that now. These utensils are so practical. Lucas: That's the goal. Practice these words today: ማንኪያ, ሹካ, ቢላዋ, ሳህን.
