- 1:06Speaker 1: Good evening, everyone. Welcome to the Bet365 Guardians warm-up show. Tonight,
- 1:11Speaker 1: from Progressive Field in downtown Cleveland, it's the Guardians and
- 1:15Speaker 1: the New York Yankees. This is game two of a
- 1:19Speaker 1: three-game series. Jim Rosenhouse along with you. About a half
- 1:22Speaker 1: hour prior to tonight's first pitch, Guardians and Yankees played
- 1:26Speaker 1: a 10-inning thriller last night, won by New York 7-5.
- 1:31Speaker 1: As a result, the Guardians now still in first place
- 1:33Speaker 1: in the AL Central, their lead over the White Sox
- 1:36Speaker 1: just a game and a half heading into play tonight. Meanwhile,
- 1:40Speaker 1: Tampa Bay and the Yankees are in a virtual tie
- 1:43Speaker 1: atop the American League East, percentage points separating the two
- 1:47Speaker 1: with Tampa Bay in that virtual top spot.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Stay with us. We'll have more to come after.
- 1:54Speaker 4: This.
- 1:55Speaker 5: That's really the essence of what the Cleveland Guardians Charities
- 1:58Speaker 5: does is helps... baseball and softball, you know, kids, you know,
- 2:05Speaker 5: in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, you know, do that.
- 2:09Speaker 2: A ton of great things going tonight.
- 2:12Speaker 1: But earlier today, you were with CeCe Sabathia at his field,
- 2:16Speaker 1: which is awesome. And he played the game a little bit.
- 2:20Speaker 1: What's it like watching kids spend a day with CeCe,
- 2:23Speaker 1: just from your perspective?
- 2:24Speaker 5: Well, I've gotten to know CeCe probably over the last
- 2:27Speaker 5: five years, and so it's just really cool. It's actually
- 2:29Speaker 5: cool for him. As you know, CeCe doesn't even live
- 2:33Speaker 5: here anymore. And so he literally just comes back to
- 2:36Speaker 5: Cleveland to do this camp. Every kid out there is
- 2:39Speaker 5: wearing a number 52 jersey, which is really cool and
- 2:43Speaker 5: surreal and really, really cool for him. You know, even
- 2:47Speaker 5: talking to him today, he was just talking about how
- 2:50Speaker 5: he feels like he grew up here. I mean, he
- 2:52Speaker 5: came here as a kid, came to Cleveland as a kid,
- 2:55Speaker 5: and then left as a man. And so for him
- 2:59Speaker 5: to be able to give you know, backed a free
- 3:02Speaker 5: baseball camp and softball camp like to these kids is
- 3:05Speaker 5: really special. And like I said, we're all about giving
- 3:08Speaker 5: back to the community and all about giving back to
- 3:10Speaker 5: the kids. And so just to even be a part
- 3:12Speaker 5: of that and be a sponsor of that and helping
- 3:14Speaker 5: them out is cool and special.
- 3:18Speaker 2: Stay with us. We'll have more with Matt Collick after
- 3:20Speaker 2: this short break.
- 3:22Speaker 4: Here's the Bet365 Minute, where winning is everything, with Scott Davidson.
- 3:27Speaker 6: Let's check out the numbers tonight. The Yankees, the favorite
- 3:29Speaker 6: in Game 2. They're minus $ 1. 20, totals 8.5. And off
- 3:33Speaker 6: another winner last night on the Phillies, got a pitching
- 3:35Speaker 6: prop I really like tonight, and it's going to be
- 3:37Speaker 6: Chase Burns of the Reds to go over 17.5 outs,
- 3:40Speaker 6: and here's why. This one's based on how bad the Reds'
- 3:44Speaker 6: bullpen is. I don't see how they can take Chase
- 3:46Speaker 6: Burns out. He's been their best pitcher all year long.
- 3:49Speaker 6: He should have a big leash tonight of at least
- 3:51Speaker 6: 95 pitches and has thrown six-plus innings in six of
- 3:54Speaker 6: his seven starts. And get this, right-handed batters have a
- 3:58Speaker 6: 143 average against him. The Padres should have at least
- 4:01Speaker 6: six of those in the lineup. I go Chase Burns
- 4:03Speaker 6: over 17.5 pitching outs my play of the day. You
- 4:06Speaker 6: can join me when you download the Bet365 app. You
- 4:09Speaker 6: bet $ 10, you get $ 365 in bonus bets.
- 4:12Speaker 2: Win or lose, terms and conditions apply.
- 4:14Speaker 6: And that's the Bet365 Minute.
- 4:16Speaker 2: I'm Scott Davidson.
- 4:17Speaker 7: Gambling problem?
- 4:18Speaker 2: Call 1-800-MY-RESET.
- 4:19Speaker 4: 21 plus only. Must be physically located in Ohio.
- 4:23Speaker 2: Welcome back.
- 4:24Speaker 1: It's Guardians Warm Up. Matt Collins joining us, part of
- 4:27Speaker 1: the 8th annual Cleveland Guardians Charities Give-A-Thon Night here at
- 4:31Speaker 1: the ballpark. Guardians and Yankees coming up shortly. And Matt,
- 4:35Speaker 1: Youth baseball, obviously a big part of this and a beneficiary.
- 4:39Speaker 1: Collin Company is hosting a 16U baseball tournament. Fill us
- 4:43Speaker 1: in on that and how that works.
- 4:44Speaker 2: Well, we have a team.
- 4:45Speaker 5: So with the Cleveland Guardians Charities, with the RBI program,
- 4:49Speaker 5: we've got six teams. And so Collin Company, we are
- 4:54Speaker 5: essentially a sponsor of the 16U team. So, I mean,
- 4:58Speaker 5: it's going to be great to get to know these
- 5:00Speaker 5: kids and get to be, you know, we're on their uniform.
- 5:04Speaker 5: I mean, we're the sponsor. And so, I don't know,
- 5:07Speaker 5: it's cool for me. I mean, I own a NASCAR
- 5:09Speaker 5: team as well, and to have, you know, your name
- 5:11Speaker 5: on the cars and everything else, but to have our
- 5:13Speaker 5: name on a team, and these kids are good. So,
- 5:19Speaker 5: it'll be fun to watch. And so, it's a different
- 5:22Speaker 5: way to be supportive. I mean, we give a lot
- 5:25Speaker 5: back to Cleveland Guardians Charities and even the RBI program,
- 5:28Speaker 5: but to actually have our own team that we can
- 5:31Speaker 5: root for that when they go out and win, we
- 5:33Speaker 5: can actually say, Hey, we won, uh, is really cool.
- 5:36Speaker 5: So I'm, I'm looking forward to getting to know the kids, uh,
- 5:40Speaker 5: on a better, you know, more intimate level and some
- 5:43Speaker 5: of the parents, uh, you know, these kids.
- 5:47Speaker 2: And the, the big key to any give a thought
- 5:49Speaker 2: night is a fast start. And, uh, we're recording this, uh,
- 5:52Speaker 2: before first pitch time, but I know prior to that, uh,
- 5:56Speaker 2: you have a special announcement before the game even begins.
- 5:58Speaker 5: Yeah, I get to be, you know, I call it
- 6:01Speaker 5: like there's, there's gotta be a lead off batter, right?
- 6:04Speaker 5: So we're leading off the give-a-thon by with college companies
- 6:08Speaker 5: and college giving, we're giving $ 50, 000 to Cleveland guardians charities.
- 6:12Speaker 5: And that's how we're kicking off the night. I mean, we,
- 6:15Speaker 5: Over the last eight years, we've raised a million dollars,
- 6:18Speaker 5: you know, for the kids here in Cleveland. And so, again,
- 6:23Speaker 5: tonight we're giving $ 50, 000 and leading this whole thing off
- 6:27Speaker 5: and getting it started. And we hope to raise a
- 6:29Speaker 5: whole lot of money for these kids tonight.
- 6:31Speaker 2: So you're the Travis Bazana of the Give-A-Thon. Yes, I am.
- 6:35Speaker 5: That's how we're rolling.
- 6:37Speaker 2: Great stuff, Matt. Great to see you. And have a
- 6:40Speaker 2: wonderful night.
- 6:40Speaker 8: Thanks, man.
- 6:41Speaker 5: Thank you.
- 6:41Speaker 2: That's Matt Collick.
- 6:43Speaker 1: Executive chairman of Collick Companies, founder of Collick Giving, and
- 6:46Speaker 1: a great partner with the Guardians and the 8th annual
- 6:50Speaker 1: Cleveland Guardians Charities Give-A-Thon.
- 6:52Speaker 2: Stay tuned. More to come after this.
- 6:54Speaker 7: Okay, I have to tell you.
- 6:56Speaker 3: I was just looking on eBay where I go for
- 6:58Speaker 3: all kinds of things I love.
- 6:59Speaker 5: And there it was.
- 7:00Speaker 2: That hologram trading card.
- 7:02Speaker 4: One of the rarest.
- 7:03Speaker 9: The last one I needed for my set.
- 7:04Speaker 10: Shiny like this.
- 7:05Speaker 11: Designer handbag of my dreams.
- 7:07Speaker 2: One of a kind. eBay had it, and now everyone's asking.
- 7:11Speaker 4: Ooh.
- 7:11Speaker 11: Where'd you get your..
- 7:12Speaker 2: Windshield wipers.
- 7:13Speaker 12: eBay has all the parts that fit my car.
- 7:15Speaker 2: No more annoying..
- 7:17Speaker 13: Just beautiful.
- 7:19Speaker 5: Millions of finds, each with a story.
- 7:22Speaker 4: eBay.
- 7:22Speaker 14: Things people love.
- 7:24Speaker 3: Progressive knows there's no one more important to your team
- 7:26Speaker 3: than your pet.
- 7:27Speaker 2: They're like your top draft pick. And it looks like
- 7:30Speaker 2: Chuck has selected Pepper the Corgi. Bold pick there, Debra.
- 7:33Speaker 7: Yeah, Rich, Pepper has a high ceiling for sure, but
- 7:35Speaker 7: he does have a tendency to bark at every tree.
- 7:37Speaker 10: Yeah, he brings a lot to the table, but also
- 7:39Speaker 10: takes a lot off of it, especially when it's been
- 7:41Speaker 10: left near the edge.
- 7:42Speaker 15: Nothing left to do now but suit him up for
- 7:44Speaker 15: the dog park.

- 8:58Speaker 1: Welcome back to the Bet365 Guardians warm-up show. Let's check
- 9:02Speaker 1: in with our friends at WKYC for our pregame weather forecast.
- 9:06Speaker 1: It's presented by Window World.
- 9:09Speaker 7: We'll see a chance for an isolated shower, a rumble
- 9:11Speaker 7: through the evening and overnight. We'll stay very muggy with
- 9:14Speaker 7: temperatures only back into the 70s. Hot and humid again
- 9:17Speaker 7: for your Wednesday upper 80s to near 90. We'll have
- 9:20Speaker 7: some dry time, but we'll also keep a chance for
- 9:22Speaker 7: an isolated shower or storm in that forecast. In the
- 9:25Speaker 7: 3 News Weather Center. I'm meteorologist Jessica Van Meter.
- 9:28Speaker 2: That's the story here downtown.
- 9:30Speaker 1: When we come back, Todd Hamilton checks in with manager
- 9:33Speaker 1: Stephen Vogt. It's the KeyBank Manager Show, and it comes
- 9:37Speaker 1: your way next on the Cleveland Clinic Radio Network.
- 9:42Speaker 3: To you by NHTSA and the Ad Council.
- 9:49Speaker 2: Hi again, everybody. With Klingler manager Stephen Vogt, this is
- 9:52Speaker 2: Tom Hamilton. Welcome to the Manager's Show brought to you
- 9:55Speaker 2: by Key Bank it was June 8th yesterday you and
- 10:00Speaker 2: Aaron Boone didn't manage that game like it was June
- 10:02Speaker 2: 8th that was a.
- 10:03Speaker 17: Great game I mean obviously we ended up on the
- 10:05Speaker 17: losing end but what a fun game back and forth
- 10:08Speaker 17: good pitching good hitting good defense a lot of moves
- 10:12Speaker 17: I think almost everybody used almost everybody on their roster
- 10:15Speaker 17: last night it definitely had a playoff feel and I
- 10:17Speaker 17: think you're going to get that with these two teams.
- 10:19Speaker 2: I mean, we felt it in New York.
- 10:21Speaker 17: There's definitely, I don't like to throw out the word rivalry,
- 10:24Speaker 17: but we know who we're playing and they know who
- 10:26Speaker 17: they're playing. And these are really important games, just.
- 10:29Speaker 2: Like every game. Do games like that, not that you're
- 10:32Speaker 2: not into every ball game, but do you find yourself
- 10:37Speaker 2: like you're even more, I don't want to say involved,
- 10:40Speaker 2: but it's even more intense?
- 10:42Speaker 17: I think what it is, is that we know them
- 10:44Speaker 17: really well and they know us and we just played five,
- 10:46Speaker 17: three days ago, whatever it was. And I think what
- 10:49Speaker 17: happens is you have to follow the game.
- 10:52Speaker 2: You have to think the game.
- 10:54Speaker 17: Somebody told me you don't watch the game as a manager.
- 10:56Speaker 17: You think the game. And you kind of know when
- 10:59Speaker 17: you need to take chances, which of their pitchers are
- 11:03Speaker 17: you going to be able to get to, and you've
- 11:04Speaker 17: got to know when to go, when to not go.
- 11:06Speaker 17: And we're always talking about those things throughout. But you're
- 11:09Speaker 17: definitely paying attention very closely in these one-run games.
- 11:12Speaker 2: Well, it's interesting. You were taught to think the game,
- 11:16Speaker 2: not watch the game. Is it hard not to watch
- 11:20Speaker 2: the game sometimes? Well, yeah.
- 11:21Speaker 17: Sometimes you actually can watch the game. You can sit back,
- 11:24Speaker 17: but not very often.
- 11:25Speaker 2: Here in Cleveland. We're usually playing pretty close games.
- 11:28Speaker 17: But it was very difficult for me early in 24
- 11:31Speaker 17: when I was first starting to do this. But now
- 11:33Speaker 17: I find myself, I'm not paying attention to what pitches
- 11:36Speaker 17: we're throwing. I'm not paying attention to anything else other than, okay,
- 11:39Speaker 17: what's the result of the play?
- 11:41Speaker 3: What's the next move?
- 11:42Speaker 17: If this happens, what are we going to do if
- 11:43Speaker 17: that happens? And it really helps to hopefully not get
- 11:46Speaker 17: caught off guard.
- 11:47Speaker 2: Again, it's one game, but you invested a lot. So
- 11:50Speaker 2: did the Yankees. Those are the harder games to lose.
- 11:53Speaker 17: Yeah, when you use all of your leverage guys and
- 11:56Speaker 17: you end up losing the game, it's an expensive loss,
- 11:58Speaker 17: as we like to say. But the good part is
- 12:00Speaker 17: that we haven't used our leverage guys a ton leading
- 12:03Speaker 17: up to last night.
- 12:04Speaker 2: So everybody's available.
- 12:05Speaker 17: Everybody's ready to go tonight.
- 12:07Speaker 2: All right, Slade Ciccone just saw the New York Yankees. Obviously,
- 12:11Speaker 2: they just saw him. And we saw Garrett Cole. Again,
- 12:15Speaker 2: we kind of talked about this last night with Gavin Williams,
- 12:18Speaker 2: and it looked like New York had made some adjustments.
- 12:21Speaker 2: What's the game plan tonight for Slade and your game
- 12:24Speaker 2: plan going against Garrett Cole?
- 12:26Speaker 17: Well, the good part is our guys saw his repertoire
- 12:28Speaker 17: five days ago, and same thing for Slade. He and
- 12:32Speaker 17: Hedgie navigated them beautifully five days ago, and hopefully they
- 12:35Speaker 17: do that again today, but really, you don't change your
- 12:38Speaker 17: game plan a whole lot because it worked, and yeah,
- 12:41Speaker 17: you might sequence a little differently, and Gavin wasn't as
- 12:44Speaker 17: sharp as yesterday and they made him pay for it
- 12:46Speaker 17: at times. So hopefully Slade gives us.
- 12:48Speaker 3: A chance to win tonight.
- 12:50Speaker 2: Voter, when you look at these two ball clubs, obviously
- 12:53Speaker 2: there's a vast difference in the Yankee power. But right
- 12:58Speaker 2: now you're able to match up with them in the bullpen.
- 13:00Speaker 2: You've been able to match up with them starting rotation.
- 13:03Speaker 2: You're both very athletic. I don't think people would expect
- 13:06Speaker 2: you two ball clubs to both lead the league in
- 13:10Speaker 2: stolen bases. Where do you find your.
- 13:13Speaker 17: Edge to beat them? We just have to take care
- 13:15Speaker 17: of the ball. I thought we gifted them some free
- 13:17Speaker 17: bases last night. We gave them a couple extra 90
- 13:20Speaker 17: feet that we shouldn't have. You can't take it back.
- 13:23Speaker 17: You wish you could. For us, we just need to
- 13:26Speaker 17: worry about us. We need to worry about playing clean baseball.
- 13:29Speaker 17: We need to worry about moving runners. We need to
- 13:31Speaker 17: take care of the things that are within our control.
- 13:34Speaker 17: That goes for any team, let alone the Yankees. Again,
- 13:37Speaker 17: it's been really fun to watch these two teams go
- 13:39Speaker 17: at it for the last four games and Here we go.
- 13:42Speaker 2: Let's get it again tonight. Cleveland manager Stephen Vogt, Tom
- 13:45Speaker 2: Hamilton inviting you to stay tuned. Cleveland and the Yankees
- 13:48Speaker 2: next on the Cleveland Clinic Radio Network.
- 13:57Speaker 1: Welcome back to the Bet365. Guardians warm-up show. The Guardians
- 14:01Speaker 1: and Yankees getting ready for game two. of this three-game series.
- 14:06Speaker 1: Time now for the pitching matchup. Veteran right-hander Garrett Cole
- 14:09Speaker 1: back on the mound for New York. He's 1-1 after
- 14:12Speaker 1: three starts and earned run average of 2.00. Season started
- 14:17Speaker 1: late as he continued his recovery from Tommy John surgery.
- 14:21Speaker 1: The Guardians pin that only loss of the season for
- 14:23Speaker 1: Cole on him. in his last start at Yankee Stadium
- 14:27Speaker 1: last Wednesday. For the Guardians, it's right-hander Slade Ciccone. On
- 14:31Speaker 1: the season, Ciccone is 3-5 with an earned run average
- 14:35Speaker 1: of 4.92. Threw the ball well last Thursday in New York,
- 14:39Speaker 1: and he's looking to get back on the winning track.
- 14:42Speaker 1: Assistant pitching coach Joe Torres says Ciccone dives in to
- 14:47Speaker 1: every available avenue to get better start to start.
- 14:52Speaker 8: Yeah, Slade is hyper-aware of everything around him, whether it's physical,
- 14:56Speaker 8: you know, the analytics, I mean, his delivery. So he
- 14:59Speaker 8: has a lot of questions, and he does want to
- 15:01Speaker 8: work through things, and it's important to him to kind
- 15:03Speaker 8: of build routines that support him and give him preparation
- 15:07Speaker 8: for these games. So he does go to every domain,
- 15:09Speaker 8: you know, using his whoop, for instance. He tracks his
- 15:12Speaker 8: heart rate, right, and how that affects him and where
- 15:14Speaker 8: he can recognize in-game, like, am I getting too high,
- 15:18Speaker 8: too low, and what that means for him, and be
- 15:20Speaker 8: able to use our our S & C staff, our
- 15:23Speaker 8: medical staff, to help him navigate and understand those things, right?
- 15:26Speaker 8: So there's little things like that that he does, but
- 15:28Speaker 8: with us, like, he's hyper-aware. He knows, you know, stuff models.
- 15:32Speaker 8: He understands, like, his grades, like, where it's all at.
- 15:35Speaker 8: So we have really, really in-depth conversations with him. But
- 15:39Speaker 8: with all that, like, keeping it simple is really the
- 15:41Speaker 8: main thing. It's number one is just find repeatable delivery
- 15:44Speaker 8: where he is consistent And that's actually where we've seen
- 15:47Speaker 8: a lot of success with them this year.
- 15:49Speaker 2: So it's Ciccone against Cole.
- 15:50Speaker 1: The Guardians and Yankees at it again after last night's
- 15:53Speaker 1: 10-inning thriller. That's your pitching matchup, and that'll do it
- 15:57Speaker 1: for Guardians Warm-Up.
- 15:58Speaker 2: Stay tuned. Starting lineups and the first pitch, they come
- 16:01Speaker 2: your way next. The Guardian's warm-up show has been brought
- 16:07Speaker 2: to you by Cleveland Clinic. When defying the odds is

- 22:25Speaker 2: From Progressive Field in downtown Cleveland, Ohio, it is game
- 22:31Speaker 2: number 69. Tonight, the Cleveland Guardians and the New York
- 22:37Speaker 2: Yankees play in the second game of this three-game series,
- 22:42Speaker 2: and the fifth game of the season series, as these
- 22:47Speaker 2: two ball clubs are knocking out this season series in
- 22:51Speaker 2: a week and a half, having played three games last
- 22:55Speaker 2: week in the Bronx, in which Cleveland took two out
- 22:58Speaker 2: of three, and now playing three games here on the
- 23:02Speaker 2: shores of Lake Erie, Yankees winning a wild one last night,
- 23:07Speaker 2: in extra innings. Hi again, everybody. This is Tom Hamilton,
- 23:11Speaker 2: along with Jim Rosenhaus and Brian Motze. It's an overcast
- 23:16Speaker 2: night on the lakefront, but the rain has stayed away.
- 23:20Speaker 2: It is going to be warm. It is going to
- 23:22Speaker 2: be humid. We have a light breeze blowing out toward right,
- 23:26Speaker 2: and as we all know, that makes this ballpark play
- 23:30Speaker 2: a whole lot smaller than, say, in April and May
- 23:34Speaker 2: when the winds are blowing off the frigid Lake Erie.
- 23:37Speaker 2: Lineup cards are being exchanged with Jacob Metz, the home
- 23:41Speaker 2: plate umpire tonight, Mark Wagner, the crew chief at first,
- 23:45Speaker 2: Bruce Dreckman at second, and Nate Tomlinson, the third base umpire.
- 23:50Speaker 2: Cleveland comes in with a record of 37-31. Cleveland still
- 23:56Speaker 2: on top in the American League Central, but their lead
- 23:59Speaker 2: now down to a game and a half over the
- 24:01Speaker 2: White Sox, and they have the same number of losses
- 24:05Speaker 2: Cleveland simply took has three more wins. On the other hand,
- 24:10Speaker 2: New York tied for the top spot in the East
- 24:13Speaker 2: with Tampa Bay as the Yankees with a record of 39-26.
- 24:17Speaker 2: Tampa Bay and New York now have an eight-game bulge
- 24:24Speaker 2: over the Toronto Blue Jays as the Blue Jays, Baltimore,
- 24:28Speaker 2: and Boston. None of those three teams even at the
- 24:34Speaker 2: 500 mark, all well below The 500 mark. Guardians take
- 24:39Speaker 2: the field in their home whites tonight with a navy
- 24:41Speaker 2: blue and red trim. And they'll go with the red
- 24:44Speaker 2: caps tonight with the navy blue pill. Yankees, it's tradition.
- 24:50Speaker 2: That means the all gray road uniforms with the navy
- 24:55Speaker 2: blue and some white trim. 325 down the lines. 370
- 25:01Speaker 2: to left center. 375 to right center. 400 to dead center.
- 25:06Speaker 2: The 19-foot wall from the left field corner to center.
- 25:10Speaker 2: Then the 9-foot wall from center field toward the right
- 25:13Speaker 2: field corner. Slade Ciccone on the hill for Cleveland tonight.
- 25:18Speaker 2: He pitched very well in the Bronx last week. The
- 25:23Speaker 2: right hander. against the New York Yankees in last week's affair,
- 25:29Speaker 2: in which Cleveland lost 2-1 to Carlos Rodon. Ciccone had
- 25:33Speaker 2: no decision, as in that ballgame, he would go six
- 25:38Speaker 2: strong innings. He only gave up one run, and he
- 25:42Speaker 2: only allowed four hits. He pitched about as well as
- 25:45Speaker 2: he has pitched at any time this year, and he'll
- 25:49Speaker 2: try to replicate that tonight. Slade Ciccone now throws three
- 25:54Speaker 2: different fastballs, the four-seamer, two-seamer, and the cutter. He's also
- 26:00Speaker 2: got the curveball and a split change. He'll occasionally throw
- 26:04Speaker 2: the slider, but the slider has been so ineffective for
- 26:08Speaker 2: him that he's really discarded it for the most part. Ciccone, 6'4, 230,
- 26:14Speaker 2: now 26 years of age. And he'll face a lineup
- 26:20Speaker 2: tonight that Aaron Boone has put seven left-handed bats in
- 26:25Speaker 2: that lineup. And as far as the numbers are concerned,
- 26:29Speaker 2: it's interesting because the numbers are kind of reversed as
- 26:34Speaker 2: to what you would think. Left-handed batters are hitting. 277
- 26:40Speaker 2: against Ciccone, but the right-handers have had a lot more
- 26:43Speaker 2: success batting. 301, but only two right-handed bats left. in
- 26:48Speaker 2: the lineup tonight for the Yankees. Lading it off for
- 26:53Speaker 2: New York, Trent Grisham, the left-handed hitting center fielder. Talk
- 26:57Speaker 2: about hot. He is batting. 383 over the last 16 ballgames.
- 27:04Speaker 2: So we're about ready to start this ballgame on an
- 27:08Speaker 2: overcast night here in Northeast Ohio. Yankees victorious in that
- 27:13Speaker 2: wild 7-5, 10-inning affair last night. Both managers admitted, yeah,
- 27:20Speaker 2: it had an October feel to it last evening. Ciccone's ready.
- 27:24Speaker 2: The set and tonight's first pitch. And it's in their strike.
- 27:29Speaker 2: And we're underway at the corner of Carnegie and Ontario.
- 27:32Speaker 2: Game time temp of 86 degrees. Ciccone does not use
- 27:40Speaker 2: the windup. First base side of the slab. Back partially
- 27:43Speaker 2: turned to the hitter. And he delivers downstairs, missed with
- 27:48Speaker 2: a sinker, and they count one and one. The next delivery,
- 28:00Speaker 2: and Grisham choking up about an inch, takes a look
- 28:04Speaker 2: at a called strike. Nicked the outside corner with it.
- 28:08Speaker 2: One ball, two strikes. On the year, Grisham batting. 227,
- 28:13Speaker 2: eight homers, 33 RBIs. This is a Yankee ball club
- 28:18Speaker 2: that leads the American League in runs scored, five a game.
- 28:22Speaker 2: Leads the league in walks, leads the league in OPS,
- 28:25Speaker 2: leads the league in steals. Now the one-two. And Grisham
- 28:34Speaker 2: cuts and misses strike three. Boy, he got a good
- 28:37Speaker 2: cut fastball in on the hands of Grisham and tied
- 28:42Speaker 2: him up for the strikeout. That'll bring up the DH tonight,
- 28:45Speaker 2: Ben Rice. Anil Martinez in left, Stephen Kwan in center,
- 28:50Speaker 2: Chase DeLauder in right, Kyle Manzardo at first, Travis Pazana
- 28:54Speaker 2: at second, Brian Rocchio at short, Jose Ramirez at third,
- 28:58Speaker 2: and Austin Hedges doing the catching. Now Ben Rice, the
- 29:03Speaker 2: DH tonight, left-handed batter, Takes a look at a pitch outside,
- 29:07Speaker 2: a sinker for ball one. Rice batting. 304, 18 bombs,
- 29:14Speaker 2: 15 doubles, 45 RBIs. What a year. Now the 1-0,
- 29:22Speaker 2: and he drives it foul down the left side to
- 29:24Speaker 2: even the count. Ben Rice is now sixth in the
- 29:30Speaker 2: batting race, third in home runs. fourth in RBIs, leads
- 29:36Speaker 2: the league in extra base hits, second in the league
- 29:39Speaker 2: in OPS. The pitch, and he fouls it back again.
- 29:45Speaker 2: Good location, in on the hands. One ball, two strikes.
- 29:52Speaker 2: Ben Rice out of Dartmouth University, a 12th round pick
- 29:55Speaker 2: five years ago. You can't get any deeper in the
- 29:59Speaker 2: box than Ben Rice is. Open stance. Bit of a crouch.
- 30:05Speaker 2: The pitch, and it's down and away. Missed for ball two,
- 30:09Speaker 2: two and two. Rice last year had 26 home runs,
- 30:14Speaker 2: 65 RBIs. He may blow back those numbers before the
- 30:19Speaker 2: all-star break. The 2-2. And he bangs one up the
- 30:23Speaker 2: middle on the ground. Behind second, fielded by Rocchio. Shortstop
- 30:27Speaker 2: throws him out. That is out number two. That'll bring
- 30:31Speaker 2: up Paul Goldschmidt. Needless to say, both managers need some
- 30:38Speaker 2: length tonight from their two starters. My goodness. Both managers
- 30:43Speaker 2: invested a lot in last night's game, using everybody on
- 30:48Speaker 2: their benches, almost everybody in the bullpen. Gavin Williams went
- 30:53Speaker 2: five innings. Starter Will Warren went four and a third.
- 30:56Speaker 2: Here's Paul Goldschmidt looking at a called strike. Good fastball
- 31:01Speaker 2: again from Ciccone. Goldschmidt homered last night, batting.
- 31:06Speaker 4: 274.
- 31:06Speaker 2: Eight homers, 27 RBIs. The 0-1. And he waves at it.
- 31:15Speaker 2: Nothing into the count. Paul Goldschmidt in his 16th major
- 31:20Speaker 2: league year. Three times in his career, he's had a
- 31:26Speaker 2: three-home run game. Seven-time All-Star, the pitch, a swing and
- 31:33Speaker 2: a line shot to center base hit. Well, on an
- 31:37Speaker 2: 0-2 pitch, Slade Ciccone hung a breaking ball on the
- 31:42Speaker 2: plate and Goldschmidt roped one into center field. That'll bring
- 31:50Speaker 2: up Cody Bellinger. Got the game winning two run single
- 31:54Speaker 2: in the 10th inning last night. Left handed hitter in
- 31:57Speaker 2: left field. Batting 276. Nine homers. 43 RBIs. Now the pitch.
- 32:06Speaker 2: And it's high. Ball one. Bellinger in his 10th year.
- 32:12Speaker 2: So much experience on this Yankee ball club. And so
- 32:18Speaker 2: many of these guys have been in The biggest games
- 32:22Speaker 2: the game has to offer. Bellinger, this guy, longtime Los
- 32:28Speaker 2: Angeles Dodger. The pitch to him, and he hits a
- 32:32Speaker 2: high chopper toward second. Bazana charges, gets rid of it
- 32:35Speaker 2: in a hurry, and he gets Bellinger on a close
- 32:39Speaker 2: play at first and a strong first inning for Slade Sigone.
- 32:44Speaker 2: Yankees do not score. Cleveland coming to bat. Hi, Max
- 32:48Speaker 2: the Bald Eagle from Marathon here.

- 34:34Speaker 19: Hey, it's Ron Burb, and I'm taking on the stories
- 34:36Speaker 19: that actually matter. Tomorrow afternoon at 3 on 570 WKBN.
- 34:43Speaker 2: Well, Cleveland gets another crack at Garrett Cole. They beat
- 34:46Speaker 2: him last week, and that's a rarity. No score, bottom
- 34:50Speaker 2: of the first. Garrett Cole went five and a third
- 34:53Speaker 2: in the Bronx, gave up four runs, as Cleveland hit
- 34:57Speaker 2: three home runs off Garrett Cole. Kyle Manzardo, Reese Hoskins,
- 35:02Speaker 2: Jose Ramirez all homered off Garrett Cole last week. Cole
- 35:08Speaker 2: facing Travis Bazzana to lead off the first no score
- 35:12Speaker 2: in Cleveland. The veteran right-hander pumps, fires, and it's high.
- 35:17Speaker 2: Ball one. Garrett Cole, this is just his fourth start.
- 35:23Speaker 2: Missed all of last year. Tommy John surgery. The 1-0 pitch.
- 35:29Speaker 2: Bazzana takes the strike and then was still recovering and
- 35:34Speaker 2: missed all of April and most of May. First start
- 35:37Speaker 2: was May 22nd. So this is his fourth start. Now
- 35:43Speaker 2: the 1-1 pitch. Lozano looks at a curveball strike. He's
- 35:47Speaker 2: challenging the call in the first inning. And the board
- 35:59Speaker 2: says it was low ball. Good challenge by Lozano. So
- 36:07Speaker 2: that changes things. And the count, two balls and a
- 36:10Speaker 2: strike on Travis Bozzana. The rookie batting 263, four homers,
- 36:16Speaker 2: 17 RBIs. The 2-1. High, 3-1. So Garrett Cole, four
- 36:25Speaker 2: starts now in 25 and 26, and two of them
- 36:30Speaker 2: against Cleveland. And in the windup, the 3-1 pitch. Swung on,
- 36:36Speaker 2: broken bat, roller to first as Bozzana got jammed. And
- 36:40Speaker 2: Garrett Cole gets Bozzana to start the game on an
- 36:46Speaker 2: unassisted play at first by Paul Goldschmidt. Garrett Cole, 6'4, 220,
- 36:52Speaker 2: 35 years of age. Fastball, sinker, curve, slider, changeup. Lifetime
- 36:59Speaker 2: against Cleveland, 7-3 in the regular season with a 3-0-9 ERA.
- 37:06Speaker 2: and 4-0 in the postseason. Jose Ramirez digs in, takes
- 37:11Speaker 2: the strike. In his career against Garrett Cole, Jose Ramirez
- 37:16Speaker 2: is batting. 423 and hit his third career home run
- 37:21Speaker 2: off Cole last week. The pitch, and he foul tips it,
- 37:25Speaker 2: and that was a good changeup, 0-2. Garrett Cole, in
- 37:31Speaker 2: the three starts he's made, Tampa, Kansas City, Cleveland, One win,
- 37:36Speaker 2: one loss, ERA two. Hadn't given up any runs in
- 37:40Speaker 2: the first two starts, so Cleveland has scored the four
- 37:43Speaker 2: runs off of him in 18 innings. The pitch, down low,
- 37:48Speaker 2: one and two. Cole averaging seven strikeouts, two walks per nine. Again,
- 37:55Speaker 2: shut down Tampa, shut down Kansas City. Cleveland got to
- 37:59Speaker 2: him last week. Can history repeat itself? No score in
- 38:04Speaker 2: the first. The pitch got him swinging. So Garrett Cole,
- 38:12Speaker 2: two quick outs as Ramirez strikes out. Here's Chase DeLauder
- 38:15Speaker 2: with two down. The Conrad score for win four new
- 38:20Speaker 2: tires contestant, Kathy Solberg of Mentor. Kathy Solberg will win
- 38:26Speaker 2: Bridgestone tires from Conrad's Tire Express and Total Car Care.
- 38:31Speaker 2: And Cleveland has a four-run inning. Visit econrats.com to enter.
- 38:37Speaker 2: Garrett Cole into the wind-up. And the pitch to DeLauder.
- 38:41Speaker 2: And it's fouled out of play to the left. Strike one.
- 38:44Speaker 2: DeLauder hitting. 254. Seven homers, 33 RBIs. Cleveland with a
- 38:51Speaker 2: rookie leading off. A rookie batting third. And in first place.
- 39:01Speaker 2: The kick and the 0-1 pitch. Outside 1-1 and visiting
- 39:06Speaker 2: with the Yankee manager Aaron Boone in the Yankee clubhouse tonight.
- 39:10Speaker 2: Boone was saying, boy, this is as good a team
- 39:14Speaker 2: as I've seen in Cleveland going back into the 2017 era.
- 39:21Speaker 2: That pitch outside 2-1. Boone said, look, the teams have
- 39:26Speaker 2: been really good that we've had to beat in the playoffs.
- 39:28Speaker 2: But he goes... this club's even more dangerous. Now the
- 39:34Speaker 2: wind-up and the 2-1. De Lauder fouling it upstairs 2-2.
- 39:49Speaker 2: Cleveland trying to get the offense kick-started. They were 0-4-11
- 39:53Speaker 2: last night with men in scoring position. Still scored five runs.
- 39:58Speaker 2: Cole looks over to the first base dugout a lot.
- 40:01Speaker 2: That's where the Yankees are. And the pitch swung on,
- 40:04Speaker 2: sliced down the left side foul. Not sure what that's
- 40:07Speaker 2: all about, but a number of times he's been looking
- 40:11Speaker 2: into that first base dugout when he's on the mound
- 40:16Speaker 2: before he delivers the pitch. No score, two outs, nobody on.
- 40:20Speaker 2: 2-2 count on De Lauder. Into the windup. Here it comes.
- 40:27Speaker 2: And it's inside maybe? But the Yankees might challenge. They didn't.
- 40:32Speaker 2: Full count. Outfield for De Lauder is pretty much straight away,
- 40:36Speaker 2: but the infield really pulled to the right. Massive gap
- 40:43Speaker 2: on the left side of the infield. Payoff pitch. Again,
- 40:47Speaker 2: foul back and out of play. Seventh pitch at bat
- 40:50Speaker 2: so far for Chase DeLauder. And boy, you want to
- 40:54Speaker 2: get into that bullpen if you can. Aaron Boone was saying.
- 41:01Speaker 2: I started looking at my card last night going, am
- 41:04Speaker 2: I going to need a position player to pitch in
- 41:07Speaker 2: extra innings? What a matchup that was last night. The
- 41:11Speaker 2: two managers going at it. The payoff pitch. Swung on,
- 41:15Speaker 2: fouled upstairs again. Great respect for these two ball clubs
- 41:20Speaker 2: amongst each other, amongst the managers, the front offices. And
- 41:27Speaker 2: both Aaron Boone and Stephen Vogt said, that's a pitch
- 41:31Speaker 2: clock violation. That is a strikeout. Not sure what Chase
- 41:36Speaker 2: DeLauder did. followed the ball upstairs, and just like that,
- 41:41Speaker 2: Jacob Metz set a pitch clock violation, a strikeout to
- 41:45Speaker 2: end the inning.
- 41:47Speaker 4: Huh.
- 41:49Speaker 2: Last night, we saw Yankee hitters take forever to get
- 41:53Speaker 2: in the batter's box. Who knows? No score, one in
- 41:57Speaker 2: the books.
- 41:58Speaker 19: Hey, it's Ron Verb, and I'm taking on the stories
- 42:02Speaker 19: that actually matter.
- 42:03Speaker 2: Tomorrow afternoon at 3 on 570 WKBN. No score, second inning.
- 42:13Speaker 2: The number five hitter, second baseman Jazz Chisholm leans off
- 42:16Speaker 2: against Slade Ciccone. Warm and humid tonight. Ball will jump
- 42:22Speaker 2: out of here. Ciccone's ready. And the pitch. And it's
- 42:31Speaker 2: sent in the air foul. Third base side into the
- 42:35Speaker 2: lower deck. Strike one. Jazz Chisholm batting. 230, eight homers,
- 42:40Speaker 2: 25 RBIs. Outfield plays him deep and toward right. Ciccone
- 42:50Speaker 2: lets it fly. And a curveball strike, 0-2. Ciccone pitched
- 42:57Speaker 2: at the University of Miami. First round pick by Arizona
- 43:01Speaker 2: in 2020. And traded to Cleveland. December of 2024 for
- 43:06Speaker 2: Josh Naylor. Now the 0-2 delivery. And it's down and in.
- 43:13Speaker 2: One ball, two strikes. Saccone. Hand set. Belt high. Time
- 43:31Speaker 2: called by a Jazz Chisholm as he steps up. Tomorrow
- 43:44Speaker 2: day game, remember, 1-10 Parker Messick against Carlos Rodon. What
- 43:49Speaker 2: a matchup. The 1-2. A little bit high, 2-2. And
- 43:57Speaker 2: if you're wondering about the Tigers coming to town this weekend...
- 44:03Speaker 2: No word yet on Tarek Scouble. The 2-2 pitch outside
- 44:09Speaker 2: full count. He will throw a bullpen tomorrow. And if
- 44:13Speaker 2: all goes well, it is expected that Tarek Scouble will
- 44:18Speaker 2: make his next start here in Cleveland this weekend. But
- 44:23Speaker 2: as always, you'll know more after the bullpen session tomorrow.
- 44:29Speaker 2: Now the payoff pitch. Down low, he walked him on
- 44:36Speaker 2: an off-speed pitch of some kind. So Chisholm's aboard, and
- 44:41Speaker 2: now this is where their speed comes into play. Cleveland
- 44:46Speaker 2: and the Yankees are the league leaders. Each team 64 steals,
- 44:53Speaker 2: and Chisholm fourth in the league with 16. Jose Ramirez
- 44:59Speaker 2: leads the American League with 23. The batter, Spencer Jones,
- 45:08Speaker 2: tossed to first, back with the dive is Chisholm. The
- 45:12Speaker 2: young man is almost freakish in his athleticism. He runs
- 45:19Speaker 2: extremely well, does Spencer Jones. He is 6'7, 240. The pitch,
- 45:26Speaker 2: and it's high. Snap throw to first, tagged, not quite
- 45:29Speaker 2: in time.
- 45:30Speaker 4: Wow.
- 45:32Speaker 2: Austin heads his from his knees, having to throw around
- 45:36Speaker 2: the left-handed batter, nearly picked off Jazz Chisholm. Jones had
- 45:44Speaker 2: 13 homers, 48 RBIs in AAA, now getting to play
- 45:49Speaker 2: in the absence of Aaron Judge. The pitch, and he
- 45:53Speaker 2: hits a ton of a drive to center.
- 45:56Speaker 4: Wow.
- 45:57Speaker 2: That is way out of here. His first Major League
- 46:02Speaker 2: home run. Well, that's what he is capable of if
- 46:06Speaker 2: you make a mistake. Last night, Cleveland kept throwing fastballs
- 46:12Speaker 2: by him. But that time, he got a slider and
- 46:18Speaker 2: he absolutely murdered it for his first home run to
- 46:22Speaker 2: dead center. 443 feet. And it's 2-0 New York. The
- 46:31Speaker 2: thing about Spencer Jones, he is so big that there
- 46:36Speaker 2: are a lot of holes you can exploit, but boy,
- 46:38Speaker 2: you better not miss. And Ciccone missed. Anthony Volpe takes
- 46:44Speaker 2: a called strike. That was a cannon shot from Spencer Jones.
- 46:49Speaker 2: 2-0 New York to pitch. Volpe looks at strike two.
- 47:00Speaker 2: The young shortstop trying to get it going, batting. 203
- 47:04Speaker 2: with a homer, eight RBIs. Been in the minors, he's
- 47:08Speaker 2: battled injuries. And Jose Caballero has outplayed him at short. Tonight, though,
- 47:16Speaker 2: Volpe gets the start. Righty-righty matchup, 2-0 New York, second inning.
- 47:22Speaker 2: The 0-2 pitch, and it's a touch high, one ball,
- 47:26Speaker 2: two strikes. When you've got rust to bust, use PB Blaster.
- 47:31Speaker 2: It's a Cleveland original since 1957. PB Blaster, always work
- 47:37Speaker 2: it like a pro. The 1-2. Down and away ball, 2-2-2.
- 47:42Speaker 2: Now for the Yankees, Spencer Jones, or maybe when he
- 47:50Speaker 2: gets healthy, Jason Dominguez. The 2-2 pitch. Swing and a miss,
- 47:57Speaker 2: tied him up inside with a fastball. Second strikeout, Volpe
- 48:01Speaker 2: out number one. Aaron Judds is going to be out
- 48:05Speaker 2: for a while. Not days, not weeks, probably months. So
- 48:13Speaker 2: guys like Spencer Jones and Jason Dominguez are going to
- 48:17Speaker 2: get an opportunity to show what they can do. Here's
- 48:21Speaker 2: Ryan McMahon, homered last night, left-handed hitting third baseman. 2-0
- 48:25Speaker 2: New York. The pitch swung on and missed. Strike one.
- 48:30Speaker 2: McMahon batting 2-11. Seven homers, 21 RBIs. Second round pick
- 48:36Speaker 2: out of high school by the Rockies 13 years ago.
- 48:40Speaker 2: Tenth year in the big leagues. The pitch to him.
- 48:43Speaker 2: And he foul tips it. And the count 0-2. But
- 48:47Speaker 2: once again, a boy that's happened a lot lately. Both
- 48:51Speaker 2: for and against Cleveland. A leadoff walk. It's an inning going.
- 48:56Speaker 2: Jazz Chisholm was behind in the count, worked a walk,
- 49:01Speaker 2: and then Spencer Jones hammered a slider that didn't do anything.
- 49:07Speaker 2: The pitch swung on, fouled upstairs, still an 0-2 count.
- 49:21Speaker 2: 2-0 New York. Saccone's 0-2 delivery. And McMahon swings. It's
- 49:31Speaker 2: a high bouncer to first. Handled by Manzardo.
- 49:34Speaker 4: 2-0.
- 49:34Speaker 2: That'll bring up J.C. Escarra. Well, the one thing about
- 49:39Speaker 2: pitching against New York, chances are you're going to make
- 49:43Speaker 2: a mistake here and there and you're going to get
- 49:45Speaker 2: taken deep. The key is minimize the damage. And since
- 49:49Speaker 2: the home run, Ciccone with two outs. Now can he
- 49:53Speaker 2: get the number nine hitter, catcher J.C. Oscara, who had
- 49:57Speaker 2: headed back to the minor leagues because he was batting $ 1.
- 49:59Speaker 14: 72.
- 49:59Speaker 2: And then Austin Wells, with headaches, had to go on
- 50:04Speaker 2: the injured list. Oscara back up. He looks at a
- 50:08Speaker 2: called strike. Sun trying to peek through the overcast skies.
- 50:17Speaker 2: Hot and humid here in northeast Ohio. Now the 0-1 pitch.
- 50:24Speaker 2: And a curve in the dirt. One ball, one strike.
- 50:31Speaker 2: Not nearly as big a crowd as last night. Almost
- 50:36Speaker 2: 30 fouls in here last evening. Now the 1-1. Kerr
- 50:47Speaker 2: ball swung on, pounded foul right side. And the count now,
- 50:51Speaker 2: one ball, two strikes. Now the 1-2. Got him swinging.
- 51:12Speaker 2: Came back with a breaking ball and good job of
- 51:16Speaker 2: recovery by Ciccone. But Spencer Jones, what a memorable first
- 51:22Speaker 2: Major League home run. A prodigious blast to center. 2-0
- 51:27Speaker 2: New York in the middle of inning number two. Hon,

- 53:16Speaker 2: News Radio 570 WKBN Youngstown. 2-0. Yankees have the lead.
- 53:31Speaker 2: Middle of the order. Manzardo, Hoskins, Martinez against Garrett Cole.
- 53:36Speaker 2: Kyle Manzardo homered last week off Garrett Cole. Hitting. 229,
- 53:42Speaker 2: 7 bombs, 21 RBIs. The right hander's pitch. And it's
- 53:46Speaker 2: fouled out of play to the left. Strike one. Garrett
- 53:48Speaker 2: Cole and Adam Pletko. Good friends. They were UCLA teammates.
- 53:53Speaker 2: And of course... If you ever meet a better guy
- 53:57Speaker 2: than Adam Pletko, please introduce us. Here's the wind-up and
- 54:01Speaker 2: the 0-1 pitch. Up high, 1-1. What a pitching staff
- 54:07Speaker 2: with Garrett Cole, Trevor Bauer, Adam Pletko. The UCLA Bruins.
- 54:15Speaker 2: Now the wind and the 1-1. Checked on a pitch
- 54:19Speaker 2: called a strike. Manzardo thought it was high. One ball,
- 54:23Speaker 2: two strikes. Garrett Cole was the number one pick in
- 54:27Speaker 2: the draft out of UCLA in 2011 going to Pittsburgh.
- 54:32Speaker 2: And Trevor Bauer was the number three pick in that
- 54:35Speaker 2: draft going to Arizona. Now the windup. Now the one-two.
- 54:44Speaker 2: Swung on. Fouled again. Left side out of play. But
- 54:48Speaker 2: Garrett Cole's arm finally gave out after Tommy John's surgery
- 54:53Speaker 2: last spring. A lot of mileage on that arm when
- 54:58Speaker 2: you think college, the major leagues. Down the one-two. Swung on,
- 55:06Speaker 2: lifted in the air to center. Grisham is under it.
- 55:11Speaker 2: And that's out number one. I would think at some point,
- 55:15Speaker 2: depending on how long he pitches, Garrett Cole's going to
- 55:19Speaker 2: be in discussion for the Hall of Fame. I mean,
- 55:21Speaker 2: right now... Garrett Cole has a record of 146-76. That's
- 55:26Speaker 2: an incredible winning percentage. A career ERA of just over three.
- 55:35Speaker 2: Six-time All-Star. Cy Young Award winner. Here's Reese Hoskins, the D.H.
- 55:41Speaker 2: He had a two-run homer off Cole last week. And
- 55:45Speaker 2: he looks at a pitch down and away. 2-0 Yanks.
- 55:57Speaker 2: The 1-0 pitch. Swung on, drilled to left. That's a
- 56:01Speaker 2: base hit near the line. Cut off near the line
- 56:04Speaker 2: by Bellinger and Hoskins as Cleveland's first hit. Rosier's just
- 56:09Speaker 2: looking some things up today. You know, it looks like
- 56:12Speaker 2: Felix Hernandez could very well go into the Hall of
- 56:16Speaker 2: Fame based on how the vote went last January. And look,
- 56:21Speaker 2: he had a marvelous career. And I'm not saying he
- 56:27Speaker 2: shouldn't go in by no means. King Felix, mistake King
- 56:31Speaker 2: Felix for a reason. I'll tell you what, that guy
- 56:36Speaker 2: sitting right next to us, David Cohn, has even better numbers.
- 56:41Speaker 2: And no one talks about David Cohn for the Hall
- 56:43Speaker 2: of Fame. Angel Martinez takes the strike. Who's licking up
- 56:47Speaker 2: David Cohn's numbers? 194 wins. A winning percentage of 61%.
- 56:58Speaker 2: Here's the 0-1. A swing and a ground ball. Pulled
- 57:00Speaker 2: a first diving backhand. It's stopped by Goldschmidt from his knees.
- 57:05Speaker 2: Flipped to Cole covering. So Martinez retired. To second is Hoskins.
- 57:12Speaker 2: Two down, 2-0 New York. David Cole. His numbers are
- 57:17Speaker 2: even better than King Felix. More wins. Better whip. He
- 57:24Speaker 2: was 12-3 in postseason. He had an ERA of under 3.5.
- 57:29Speaker 2: A Cy Young Award winner. He had a war, if
- 57:34Speaker 2: you're into that, of 62. Here is Stephen Kwan in
- 57:42Speaker 2: center tonight. Cole checked second, the pitch. Outside a ball.
- 57:48Speaker 2: For instance, CeCe Sabathia went into the Hall of Fame
- 57:51Speaker 2: last year. Same war as David Coleman. Juan Marichal in
- 57:55Speaker 2: the Hall of Fame. Same war as David Cohn. And, Tom,
- 57:59Speaker 2: you mentioned the postseason. I think that counts for a lot.
- 58:02Speaker 2: It should, I think. The 1-0 pitch outside 2-0. I
- 58:07Speaker 2: guess my point is, why do we never hear people
- 58:11Speaker 2: talk about David Cohn? David Cohn's a Hall of Famer.
- 58:15Speaker 1: You wonder. I mean, and it's crazy to say, 194 wins.
- 58:19Speaker 1: If he had gotten over 200, would the perception be different?
- 58:24Speaker 1: Which isn't fair, I don't think.
- 58:26Speaker 2: King Felix has like 160 here. The pitch, swing and
- 58:30Speaker 2: a foul down the left side, 2-1. I just, I
- 58:34Speaker 2: think you could have these arguments, obviously, about a lot
- 58:37Speaker 2: of players, but just in visiting with David Cohen, one,
- 58:42Speaker 2: visiting with him is like getting your Ph.D. in baseball.
- 58:47Speaker 2: He is such a brilliant baseball mind. The pitch, check swing,
- 58:52Speaker 2: inside he didn't go. So it's always great when David
- 58:56Speaker 2: Cohn's in the ballpark, three and one to count. Then
- 59:00Speaker 2: you look up those numbers, and David Cohn never talks
- 59:03Speaker 2: about himself. And it's like, I think sometimes we forget
- 59:07Speaker 2: how great these guys were.
- 59:09Speaker 1: And if you saw him on the street you would
- 59:11Speaker 1: never say hall of fame pitcher because like the jose
- 59:14Speaker 1: ramirez he's not a big man no but he was
- 59:17Speaker 1: durable and pitched a ton of innings with a lot of.
- 59:20Speaker 2: Success i think cleveland manager steven both thought maybe steven
- 59:24Speaker 2: kwan got hit by that pitch And so the home
- 59:27Speaker 2: plate umpire, Jacob Metz, will discuss it with the first
- 59:30Speaker 2: base ump and crew chief, Mark Wagner. There's interference. Oh, okay.
- 59:38Speaker 2: Not hit by the pitch, but catcher's interference. Anyway, I'm
- 59:44Speaker 2: not trying to start some raucous debate. I just think
- 59:49Speaker 2: guys like David Cohn and Oral Hershiser haven't maybe been
- 59:54Speaker 2: given their proper due yet. how good they were and
- 59:58Speaker 2: how quickly people forget how good they were. They're Hall
- 1:00:02Speaker 2: of Fame worthy.
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: So much of what you base it on changes because, look,
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: no one's getting the 300 wins, much less 200 anymore,
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: just the way the game is set up for starting pitchers.
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: But you feel like there's a place for two that
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: you just mentioned, Cohn and Hershiser.
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: Never forget in 1995, David Cohn was at the peak.
- 1:00:25Speaker 2: of his incredible career, pitching for Toronto. 7-0 Blue Jays
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: had the lead. Cleveland came back to win it. And
- 1:00:34Speaker 2: Paul Sorrento walked it off. At the review, the call
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: on the field is overturned. There was catcher's interference. The
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: batter's awarded first base, and Cleveland will retain their talent.
- 1:00:44Speaker 2: I'll tell you what. Gunnar Wilhelmi has been on a
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: roll here. He's Every challenge that Gunner comes up with
- 1:00:56Speaker 2: is the correct call. Great job there. It was catcher's interference.
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: That's an error on the catcher. It does not count
- 1:01:06Speaker 2: as an official at bat. Stephen Kwan is now at
- 1:01:12Speaker 2: first base. Two out, two on. Two-nothing Yankees, second inning.
- 1:01:16Speaker 2: Here's catcher Austin Hedges. The set and the pitch. And
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: it's in there, a strike. And this is the second
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: game in a row that Oscara has been charged with
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: catcher's interference. Now the 0-1 pitch, outside a ball, 1-1
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: to count.
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: When's the last time you saw catcher's interference in back-to-back games?
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: Same catcher. Yeah. Two down, two on. 2-0 Yankees, second inning.
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: The 1-1 to Hedges, and he takes strike two. Hedges batting. 250,
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: a homer, seven RBIs. Hey, when the Guardians do win,
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: your Northeast Ohio Ford dealers donate $ 500 to Cleveland Guardians Charities,
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: supporting expanded access to youth sports in Cleveland. Well, Hedges
- 1:02:19Speaker 2: has had a number of big hits this year. Can
- 1:02:23Speaker 2: he deliver again? The 1-2 pitch. Fouled it back. I mean,
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: this is a guy, Austin Hedges, batting. 250. His career
- 1:02:36Speaker 2: batting average,. 185 coming into this season. Hits out of
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: an open stance. Cole checks second. Another look. The pitch.
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: Swung on. Fouled it. Ball bounced up off the ground
- 1:02:59Speaker 2: and hit Hedges in the batter's box. They count one
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: and two, and the good news is no matter what
- 1:03:05Speaker 2: happens this inning, Cleveland again has made Garrett Cole work.
- 1:03:10Speaker 2: He's had 35 pitches, and the inning isn't over yet.
- 1:03:21Speaker 2: The pitch, and Hedges skies one in the air. Shallow left.
- 1:03:25Speaker 2: Cody Bellinger's there. The left fielder makes the catch, and
- 1:03:29Speaker 2: Cole works out of it. The Yankees lead 2-0. Third
- 1:03:32Speaker 2: inning next. This is the Cleveland Clinic Radio Network.
