  SPEAKER_00: It's gonna be a fun one.
• 0:49
SPEAKER_00: Yes, it's gonna be a solo one with just my lovely Foghorn pipes.
• 0:53
SPEAKER_00: After I did the Amy episode, I had a lot of people reach out to me and ask me about boobs.
• 0:58
SPEAKER_00: Yes, you heard that right, boobs.
• 1:01
SPEAKER_00: I think it's because we did talk about boobs and we discussed that Amy went through breast cancer, not once but twice.
• 1:08
SPEAKER_00: And so she's in remission and she's kicked cancer's butt, so to speak.
• 1:12
SPEAKER_00: But not only that, she has gone through a lot.
• 1:15
SPEAKER_00: And throughout that, she talked about the surgery, her process in, you know, having her breast implants removed, the surgery itself, and then also finding out that the actual implants that she had were those ones that were found to cause cancer.
• 1:27
SPEAKER_00: She mentioned having them out felt liberating.
• 1:30
SPEAKER_00: And the bit that she actually really struggled with was the hysterectomy part of her surgery.
• 1:36
SPEAKER_00: We can talk about that on another day.
• 1:38
SPEAKER_00: Today's topic is, like I said, gonna be boobs.
• 1:40
SPEAKER_00: The amount of people that asked me about her situation, but not only that, my situation, and the fact that I made comments that yes, I have had surgeries not once but twice.
• 1:52
SPEAKER_00: And that's not because I had breast cancer myself.
• 1:54
SPEAKER_00: That's because I and I'll be honest with you, because this seems like a topic that lots of women sometimes, well, a lot of the time they want to know about it, but they might not want to speak about it.
• 2:04
SPEAKER_00: I have two daughters and with my first daughter, I breastfed naturally and I had absolutely no issues.
• 2:10
SPEAKER_00: Now let me just paint a picture.
• 2:12
SPEAKER_00: I've never had boobs, never had them.
• 2:14
SPEAKER_00: Always wanted them, but wasn't blessed with them.
• 2:17
SPEAKER_00: So when I got pregnant, they kind of got a little bit bigger, but as I started breastfeeding, only one worked.
• 2:23
SPEAKER_00: Now, this is apparently fairly common.
• 2:25
SPEAKER_00: I didn't know it at the time because I was a first-time mum and I thought that there was something terribly wrong with me.
• 2:30
SPEAKER_00: Turns out that this is quite common.
• 2:32
SPEAKER_00: My right breast worked like it should do, and to put it bluntly, you could probably put out a fire with it.
• 2:38
SPEAKER_00: And the other one would get red and angry and swollen, and it would trickle out two or three drops.
• 2:44
SPEAKER_00: It was just enough to let off the pressure.
• 2:46
SPEAKER_00: It wasn't enough for it to feed my baby, and it was a nightmare, to be honest.
• 2:51
SPEAKER_00: And then I obviously breastfed up until uh my daughter was, I think, 10 months.
• 2:56
  SPEAKER_00: That was it.
• 2:57
SPEAKER_00: They kind of went back to normal-ish, uh, as in, you know, maybe A cups, like a bit bigger than what a mozzie's bitten.
• 3:04
SPEAKER_00: And then after I had my second daughter, I only breastfed her for seven months.
• 3:08
SPEAKER_00: This was something that I wasn't expecting because I just kind of assumed that it would be like the first time.
• 3:13
SPEAKER_00: And it wasn't that my milk wasn't any good, it's just that my breasts decided that by the seven-month mark they were done with breastfeeding, as in they'd started to kind of dry up.
• 3:23
SPEAKER_00: And not only that, my daughter made the decision that that was enough for her.
• 3:26
SPEAKER_00: I'm sure that there are mums out there that are probably thinking, oh wow, that's actually like me, or that's, you know, I know somebody similar.
• 3:33
  SPEAKER_00: It's actually quite common.
• 3:35
SPEAKER_00: And I'd wished at the time that I knew about it or that people had spoken about it more, that women in general talked about breastfeeding and the ups and the downs and all the in-betweens of what could actually happen.
• 3:45
SPEAKER_00: So yeah, look, I was left with a boob on the right hand side that was floppy, it was saggy, and look, it wasn't down at my belly button, but it certainly was not perky anymore, and it was like a deflated balloon.
• 3:57
SPEAKER_00: On the other side, it looked like an 18-year-old's breast.
• 4:00
SPEAKER_00: So it was back to being normal, small-ish, perky, and you know, didn't really look like it'd been through the wars.
• 4:07
SPEAKER_00: But the size difference really bothered me.
• 4:10
SPEAKER_00: I know that having a slight difference between your left boob and your right boob isn't completely normal, but on this occasion, it was to the point where I felt like I needed to fill the left side with a chicken fillet.
• 4:20
  SPEAKER_00: Anytime I went out.
• 4:21
  SPEAKER_00: At home, I didn't really care.
• 4:23
SPEAKER_00: But going out, filling out a dress and having it lopsided underneath uneven, it bothered me.
• 4:28
SPEAKER_00: Okay, fast forward down the track.
• 4:30
SPEAKER_00: It's been a it was a couple of years that, you know, I think I was maybe 32 when I decided.
• 4:34
SPEAKER_00: Actually, no, it must have been earlier than that.
• 4:36
SPEAKER_00: I think maybe it was two years after my second daughter because I went down to Perth, I had breast implants put in, and the problem was is that I really should have had a lift.
• 4:46
  SPEAKER_00: But I didn't.
• 4:46
SPEAKER_00: The surgeon chose to put in two completely separately sized implants.
• 4:51
SPEAKER_00: One was obviously a lot bigger than the other, and thought that that would be the best case scenario.
• 4:55
  SPEAKER_00: Turns out it wasn't.
• 4:56
SPEAKER_00: I'd only had the breast implants for six years, and they're meant to last at least 10.
• 5:00
SPEAKER_00: And one day it was like overnight.
• 5:02
SPEAKER_00: They just the right one decided that's it, we're heading south.
• 5:05
SPEAKER_00: It dropped, the other side just become incredibly hard.
• 5:09
SPEAKER_00: And it was it had capsular contracture, and that's the technical term, where the space between your breast muscle and where the implant sits, slowly but surely it's like it starts to suffocate the implant.
• 5:20
SPEAKER_00: I thought, you know what, I can either just leave this.
• 5:23
SPEAKER_00: Uh at the time I was early 30s, I thought, there's no way I can do this.
• 5:27
  SPEAKER_00: I feel yuck.
• 5:28
SPEAKER_00: I actually started to feel like I was sick.
• 5:31
  SPEAKER_00: It was incredibly painful.
• 5:32
SPEAKER_00: It'd be hot to touch, it'd be very hard.
• 5:35
SPEAKER_00: And I thought, I'm gonna have to get this fixed.
• 5:37
SPEAKER_00: So I did a bit of research and absolute shout out.
• 5:40
SPEAKER_00: I know he's probably not gonna listen to this, but Dr.
• 5:42
  SPEAKER_00: Maroshnick in Sydney, Dr.
• 5:44
SPEAKER_00: M, as he's best known, is an absolute genius.
• 5:47
SPEAKER_00: If anyone knows of a breast wizard, in your mind, if you think in Australia who is a breast wizard, it's Dr.
• 5:54
  SPEAKER_00: M.
• 5:54
SPEAKER_00: And that's what he did.
• 5:55
SPEAKER_00: You know, once I discovered him and had done plenty of research, I knew that he was the person that was going to take them out, replace them with new ones, but also do a lift and also put them together so it wasn't such vacant desert land in the middle of my chest.
• 6:09
SPEAKER_00: It was the absolute best thing that I could have done because afterwards, yes, the surgery recovery time took a lot longer because I'd had a lift during that surgery.
• 6:17
SPEAKER_00: And on top of having my old implants taken out and then replaced, it was the best decision that I have made at that point in my life.
• 6:25
SPEAKER_00: Look, I've made a lot of good decisions in my life, and that is certainly one of them.
• 6:29
SPEAKER_00: I just couldn't go through life having this sore, hard boot.
• 6:33
  SPEAKER_00: I just couldn't do it.
• 6:33
  SPEAKER_00: The fact that Dr.
• 6:34
SPEAKER_00: M was able to have these breasts, get them out, put new ones in, do the lift, make it look Mickey Mouse, and look, that was 2017.
• 6:43
SPEAKER_00: I'm coming up to 10 years next year in September.
• 6:46
SPEAKER_00: His aftercare, I mean, he still touches base with me now.
• 6:49
SPEAKER_00: I've seen him twice since having them done when I've gone over to Sydney, just so he can have a look at them.
• 6:54
SPEAKER_00: I mean, he probably has seen thousands of boobs, and he just knows straight away that one of my issues was I had very thin skin on the breastfeeding boobs.
• 7:04
SPEAKER_00: So it really had turned to tissue paper.
• 7:06
SPEAKER_00: And all that meant was is that there is a limit in regards to the size that you can have.
• 7:11
SPEAKER_00: Now I didn't want to have giant bolt-on Pamela Anderson boobs.
• 7:14
  SPEAKER_00: That wasn't me.
• 7:15
SPEAKER_00: I chose to get the teardrop shape, and anybody that's researched breast implants would know that Yui can either get a round and like a high profile, or there is like a teardrop shape.
• 7:25
SPEAKER_00: And so I chose that one because I kind of wanted it to look like I didn't have breast implants.
• 7:29
SPEAKER_00: Anybody that's had them can usually pick it, and especially now as I get older, they'll be a bit like, oh, they're actually fairly decent.
• 7:37
SPEAKER_00: As in, they're still fairly perky.
• 7:38
SPEAKER_00: I think going into next year, I know I definitely need to get an MRI.
• 7:42
SPEAKER_00: I've had one at the five-year mark and I'm due to have one at the 10-year mark.
• 7:45
SPEAKER_00: And all that means is they will check for any issues in regards to the implant size, shape, if there's anything that's untoward, usually you would get some type of pain.
• 7:55
  SPEAKER_00: I don't have any pain.
• 7:56
SPEAKER_00: That's sort of what I need to do next year.
• 7:59
SPEAKER_00: I have had plenty of friends reach out and ask me about breast implants.
• 8:03
SPEAKER_00: I could talk about boobs all day.
• 8:04
  SPEAKER_00: I am a boobs lady.
• 8:06
SPEAKER_00: You know when people say, are you a boobs, boobs person, a ass person, legs person?
• 8:10
  SPEAKER_00: I'm definitely a boobs person.
• 8:12
SPEAKER_00: And I appreciate the womanly body, that's for sure.
• 8:14
SPEAKER_00: I've had friends that have had breast implants, had them taken out, had them taken out because they've actually got that sickness from the implants themselves that have made them feel sick.
• 8:24
SPEAKER_00: I appreciate those women that have to make that difficult decision.
• 8:26
SPEAKER_00: If there's anybody out there that wants any information in regards to why or if or how or when or if it's worth it, I guess first of all, I could say my personal opinion is definitely do not get breast implants if you are planning on breastfeeding.
• 8:42
SPEAKER_00: Your body changes shape so much.
• 8:45
SPEAKER_00: Your waistline, your, you know, midsection, obviously.
• 8:51
SPEAKER_00: But yes, your breasts change significantly.
• 8:54
SPEAKER_00: And I feel like they do, even if you don't breastfeed.
• 8:57
SPEAKER_00: I guess if you're planning on not breastfeeding at all, you could probably get it done before that.
• 9:02
SPEAKER_00: But I feel like, look, it's just my personal opinion.
• 9:05
SPEAKER_00: Because I saw the changes in my body were quite significant, I would have hated to have had breast implants before that, and then decided to have two kids, breastfeed, and then see what happens then.
• 9:16
SPEAKER_00: Because I would have had to have definitely got them changed anyway.
• 9:19
SPEAKER_00: So that's my first tip is that if you know that you want to have kids, I would wait and see what happens to your body and the way that it changes, and then do it like as in a wow, it's I've had kids and now I'm going to have these new boobs happen.
• 9:32
SPEAKER_00: And if it's something that you really honestly care about in regards to self-confidence, the way that you dress, the way that clothes fit on your body, and if it's something that you've always sort of toyed with, I really feel like it's important to do your research.
• 9:45
SPEAKER_00: Again, I've had friends that have gone to Thailand, they've gone to Malaysia, they have had breast implants over there and not had issues.
• 9:52
SPEAKER_00: For me though, I wanted to get it done in Australia for that exact reason.
• 9:56
SPEAKER_00: As in, I wanted to be able to go and see somebody if anything happened, which I wasn't to know at the time, but something did obviously happen in the future.
• 10:04
SPEAKER_00: And I didn't want to have to muck around with going on overseas flights and the aftercare of it being overseas.
• 10:09
SPEAKER_00: Third tip: have a think about how it's going to affect yourself mentally, whether you are prepared to have the financial cost.
• 10:18
SPEAKER_00: I think that's something also that isn't spoken about a lot as well.
• 10:21
  SPEAKER_00: It's not cheap.
• 10:23
SPEAKER_00: So even the first surgery that I did was at least 15 grand.
• 10:29
SPEAKER_00: That was for the first surgery in Perth.
• 10:31
SPEAKER_00: Then when I had to have the second surgery with Dr.
• 10:34
SPEAKER_00: M, at the time, with the flights, the accommodation, the surgery which included lifts, and the replacement of old implants and then into new implants, all up, that would have cost me just over$32,000.
• 10:49
SPEAKER_00: And that was nearly 10 years ago.
• 10:51
SPEAKER_00: So that's just something to take into consideration.
• 10:53
SPEAKER_00: I'm being completely honest, and I get that every surgeon has different prices, and I have no doubt that in the last 10 years, Doc Dam certainly would have increased his prices.
• 11:02
SPEAKER_00: That's just how much it was.
• 11:03
SPEAKER_00: So I make jokes that these are nearly close to 50k gold-plated breasts, and do I love them?
• 11:08
  SPEAKER_00: Yes.
• 11:09
SPEAKER_00: And if something was to happen to them in the future, touch would that it doesn't.
• 11:13
SPEAKER_00: But if something was to happen, I would have to have a really good think as to whether I would go again.
• 11:18
  SPEAKER_00: I mean, I've only just turned 44 recently.
• 11:21
SPEAKER_00: Uh, if I was to get them out, even in the next couple of years, they're gonna last at least another 15, and then I probably wouldn't.
• 11:27
SPEAKER_00: I guess it's just a financial thing and whether I'd want to go down that track again.
• 11:31
SPEAKER_00: And look, whether I could be bothered having breasts as I get older.
• 11:36
SPEAKER_00: I think it's just a confidence thing for me.
• 11:38
SPEAKER_00: I remember when I was growing up, it was just something I always wanted.
• 11:43
SPEAKER_00: I was so incredibly self-conscious about not having any boobs.
• 11:47
SPEAKER_00: I was that girl that had every different size chicken fillet.
• 11:50
SPEAKER_00: I didn't try tissues because there was a girl in year 12 that had tried that and she jumped into the pool and they'd fallen out and she was forever called tissues, and I thought, well, I'm never gonna do that, and it just stuck in my mind.
• 12:01
SPEAKER_00: I think it's just for me, for my own personal confidence, it's just something that I've always wanted, and I'm very, very happy with my decision to even get them done in the first place because obviously it was nice to know what it was like to have breasts to start with, and then even having to get them out and replaced again, don't regret that at all.
• 12:18
SPEAKER_00: It's something that I've been proud of that I've made that decision to do.
• 12:21
SPEAKER_00: And I think, look, I don't think the shame in having breast implants, that's gone.
• 12:26
  SPEAKER_00: That's long gone.
• 12:26
SPEAKER_00: I feel like even 10 years ago, it wasn't even a thing.
• 12:29
SPEAKER_00: You know, people might go, oh, she's got a boob job or she's got fakies or she's got bolt-ons, whatever, you know, ridiculous names that they would use for people with breast implants.
• 12:37
  SPEAKER_00: That's gone.
• 12:38
SPEAKER_00: The shame of that has gone.
• 12:39
SPEAKER_00: And look, you know what?
• 12:40
SPEAKER_00: If there's people that make comments, well, fuck them.
• 12:42
  SPEAKER_00: Really?
• 12:43
SPEAKER_00: Hey, it needs to be something that only you care about, and that if you choose to tell people, whatever.
• 12:49
SPEAKER_00: I mean, I'm more than happy to discuss this.
• 12:51
SPEAKER_00: Like I said, I can talk about boobs all day long, and I'm happy to tell people about my own journey and the reasons why I decided to get breast implants.
• 12:59
SPEAKER_00: I do want to make mention of the people that have sent me private DMs just asking about Amy's journey and the fact that look, I could possibly have a second episode with her and ask her more specifically about it.
• 13:10
SPEAKER_00: But like she mentioned in her episode that she found a lump to start with.
• 13:14
SPEAKER_00: And because her family has a history of lumpy boob sort of syndrome, I guess the first lot of doctors dismissed it and thought, you know what, that's just your family history.
• 13:23
SPEAKER_00: But then she got a second one in such a short amount of time and then trusted her gut instincts.
• 13:29
  SPEAKER_00: I can't say this enough.
• 13:31
SPEAKER_00: Checking our breasts is my last thing that I want to talk about.
• 13:34
SPEAKER_00: It's definitely something you've got to do.
• 13:37
SPEAKER_00: As I get older and because I live in Broome, they do have the breast cancer clinic van come up.
• 13:42
SPEAKER_00: But because I've got breast implants, I choose to go to Perth.
• 13:45
SPEAKER_00: It's only once a year that I have to do it, and I do go to Perth quite regularly, but I actually go to the breast cancer specialist clinic in Netherlands because I want somebody that deals with breast implants to do my mammogram.
• 13:56
SPEAKER_00: And I guess because obviously they're squeezing the life out of your chest, I just don't want to, but for the fact that it was painful to start with, the surgery and also the cost, I don't really want an amateur dealing with my breast implants.
• 14:10
SPEAKER_00: And then something was to go untoward, if you catch my drift.
• 14:13
SPEAKER_00: Even those people that don't have breast implants, check your boobs.
• 14:16
  SPEAKER_00: Trust your gut instinct.
• 14:18
SPEAKER_00: If you've got any type of lump, any changes, any abnormalities where you can see something kind of sort of poking out, or if there's like a raised lump, or even if you feel a lump deep inside, then yes, go and get it checked out and do it.
• 14:32
SPEAKER_00: Trust your gut instinct if you feel like there's something that needs to get checked, because I have had lots of friends, probably seven or eight, which I feel is a lot of different friends my age, uh even in the early 30s, that were diagnosed with breast cancer.
• 14:45
SPEAKER_00: My best friend, Sam, went through breast cancer herself.
• 14:49
SPEAKER_00: And I will get her on the podcast soon and she can talk about that, plus many other things.
• 14:53
SPEAKER_00: She had that and she had the family history of the brackagene that Angelina Jolie has.
• 14:58
SPEAKER_00: And look, we will discuss that in a later episode.
• 15:01
SPEAKER_00: Having breast cancer surgery though, like what Amy discussed, that's huge.
• 15:06
SPEAKER_00: The mental load that that would take on your confidence, all of that is huge.
• 15:11
SPEAKER_00: And I mean, Amy said it herself.
• 15:13
  SPEAKER_00: She actually felt liberated.
• 15:14
SPEAKER_00: She felt that getting them out and having them taken off and making that decision to not have new implants and the surgery that goes along with it.
• 15:22
  SPEAKER_00: Kudos to her.
• 15:22
SPEAKER_00: And I love that she was so forthcoming with that.
• 15:25
SPEAKER_00: And I honestly think that's why I've had so many DMs.
• 15:28
SPEAKER_00: It's one of the highest episodes where I've received that amount of private DMs from different people, people that I know, but quite a lot of random people that have obviously tuned into the podcast that have asked me questions about it.
• 15:39
SPEAKER_00: Like, oh, I noticed that you mentioned that you've got breast implants.
• 15:42
SPEAKER_00: Why did you get that done?
• 15:43
SPEAKER_00: Or how did that make you feel?
• 15:44
SPEAKER_00: Can I ask you why you got breast implants?
• 15:47
SPEAKER_00: You know, all those sorts of questions.
• 15:48
SPEAKER_00: And that's why I decided to come on today and talk about it.
• 15:51
SPEAKER_00: I hope that's answered some questions that people have asked me.
• 15:55
SPEAKER_00: I figured it might be useful for me to go into an episode and just talk about it freely.
• 15:59
  SPEAKER_00: Like podcast title is.
• 16:01
SPEAKER_00: She said it out loud.
• 16:02
SPEAKER_00: I'm saying it out loud in regards to boobs, breasts, knockers, titties, whatever you want to call them.
• 16:06
SPEAKER_00: Send me a message if I've missed something.
• 16:08
SPEAKER_00: If there's something else you want to know, again, send me a private message.
• 16:12
  SPEAKER_00: I'm all for it.
• 16:12
SPEAKER_00: This is what I love.
• 16:13
SPEAKER_00: It's incredibly refreshing to be able to talk about these topics that, you know, sometimes people still consider as taboo.
• 16:20
SPEAKER_00: Like, why are we not talking about boobs?
• 16:22
SPEAKER_00: It's every single woman has them.
• 16:24
SPEAKER_00: Whether they are A cups, B cups, giant G cups, fake ones, real ones, saggy ones, you know, juicy ones.
• 16:30
SPEAKER_00: Juicy ones are my favourite.
• 16:31
SPEAKER_00: But yeah, look, send me a message, I'm all for it.
