- 1:18Speaker 1: of The Dropping Gym's podcast. As always, I am your host,
- 1:22Speaker 1: Debbie Brown. As seems to always be the case when
- 1:26Speaker 1: I am recording like a really specific show just Me
- 1:30Speaker 1: in the room. UM. Life got kind of out of
- 1:32Speaker 1: hand today, so but I learned a really really valuable
- 1:35Speaker 1: lesson UM Earlier today. I wanted to record, you know,
- 1:39Speaker 1: this show. I've been kind of preparing for it because
- 1:42Speaker 1: it it's definitely one of the meteor shows that I've
- 1:45Speaker 1: done UM. And you know, at the last minute, I
- 1:48Speaker 1: had my day all planned out, and at the last minute,
- 1:52Speaker 1: a friend of mine's mom was in town, who I adore,
- 1:55Speaker 1: and so I ran out of the house to meet
- 1:58Speaker 1: them and grab you know, some delist just Asai bowls
- 2:01Speaker 1: and it was so beautiful. And then I was like, well,
- 2:03Speaker 1: I'm already out of the house, so let me go
- 2:05Speaker 1: run and do X, Y and Z else. And as
- 2:09Speaker 1: I was doing that, I blew out my tire, which
- 2:15Speaker 1: you know, if you do that, it's kind of like
- 2:18Speaker 1: you just don't know how long it's going to take. UM. Luckily,
- 2:21Speaker 1: I ended up having a great guy from Triple A
- 2:24Speaker 1: that came in like ten minutes. I had a spare
- 2:27Speaker 1: in my trunk, so it worked out, but it definitely
- 2:30Speaker 1: threw off the rest of my day. Got back, you know,
- 2:33Speaker 1: I had to make sure that my little baby, little
- 2:36Speaker 1: quest Mandela um was situated. So finally, just to paint
- 2:40Speaker 1: the picture for you, I am. It's pretty late, it's
- 2:44Speaker 1: like midnight, and I'm sitting outside doing the show. It's
- 2:49Speaker 1: super dark, very moody, and I have my baby monitor nearby,
- 2:54Speaker 1: so if you hear crying, I might have to pause
- 3:01Speaker 1: for the cause and go run and get my kid. Um.
- 3:04Speaker 1: But yeah, let's dive right in. I want to talk
- 3:07Speaker 1: about purpose. I feel like purpose is a conversation that
- 3:11Speaker 1: we are all having, or it's a word that we
- 3:14Speaker 1: are all confronted with pretty much on a daily basis. Now.
- 3:17Speaker 1: I know, I, for one, am having conversations about purpose
- 3:20Speaker 1: with all of my friends, really regularly having conversations about
- 3:23Speaker 1: purpose in my d M when you guys slide in
- 3:26Speaker 1: UM pretty often, and even on Instagram stories when I asked, Hey,
- 3:31Speaker 1: what questions do you guys have for my next episode?
- 3:35Speaker 1: Of the responses were in some way, shape or form
- 3:38Speaker 1: related to purpose. I have an issue with the concept
- 3:43Speaker 1: of purpose. I feel like it has become another tool
- 3:50Speaker 1: of mental and spiritual oppression on a lot of people.
- 3:54Speaker 1: I think that it has created this really unfair amount
- 3:59Speaker 1: of pressure on people, and I think that for some
- 4:03Speaker 1: it's stunting their growth. So let's let's get into this. Uh,
- 4:07Speaker 1: keep a pen and paper handy, because we're going to
- 4:09Speaker 1: get a little deep on some of this, some of
- 4:12Speaker 1: this breakdown. So for me, purpose has really become such
- 4:20Speaker 1: an on trend item. It's become such a buzzword, right,
- 4:24Speaker 1: like being your purpose, find your purpose, Like people are
- 4:28Speaker 1: selling all kinds of things online related to that word. Um.
- 4:35Speaker 1: I think at the core of it are our obsession
- 4:38Speaker 1: with purpose that has kind of existed since the dawn
- 4:41Speaker 1: of time, but definitely gotten a lot bigger since Instagram
- 4:46Speaker 1: really just stems from people wanting to know and believe
- 4:50Speaker 1: that their life matters, you know. I think that we're
- 4:53Speaker 1: so obsessed with the idea of purpose because we want
- 4:56Speaker 1: to know that this experience of being alive, of being
- 5:00Speaker 1: human has meaning. Um. But in that quest, I think
- 5:04Speaker 1: that purpose has also become a huge tool of comparison,
- 5:09Speaker 1: or should I say, yet another tool of comparison that
- 5:13Speaker 1: we are wielding around sometimes like a weapon, a weapon
- 5:16Speaker 1: against others, a weapon against ourselves. I think in a
- 5:20Speaker 1: lot of ways, a lot of people are using purpose
- 5:23Speaker 1: as a marker of status or of self worth, and
- 5:27Speaker 1: people think that purpose gives them value when in reality,
- 5:32Speaker 1: you already have value. You are enough simply because you
- 5:37Speaker 1: exist in Purpose is really just sharing yourself and your
- 5:43Speaker 1: gifts with others. Um. You know, I think that the
- 5:47Speaker 1: thing with purpose is a lot of it is misunderstood
- 5:50Speaker 1: because it is so intricately in our minds tied up
- 5:54Speaker 1: with career, job, and passion. And while all of those
- 5:58Speaker 1: categories can and really symbiotically exist, they don't have to
- 6:04Speaker 1: be mutually exclusive. UM. So I want to get kind
- 6:07Speaker 1: of specific on this because I think words are really important.
- 6:11Speaker 1: I think that it is very important for all of
- 6:14Speaker 1: us to expand our vocabularies when we are explaining our
- 6:17Speaker 1: emotions and thoughts. And I think that it is really
- 6:20Speaker 1: important that we get familiar with what the true meaning
- 6:24Speaker 1: and origins of certain words are because in a lot
- 6:27Speaker 1: of ways and then a lot of context is we
- 6:30Speaker 1: misuse them. And when we misuse them, we are not
- 6:35Speaker 1: really able to stand in our truth, liveing our truth,
- 6:38Speaker 1: or have the breakthroughs that are necessary for us to
- 6:41Speaker 1: get to whatever the next level for each of us is.
- 6:44Speaker 1: So I'm gonna go over a few definitions with you. Um.
- 6:49Speaker 1: The definition of passion. Passion is defined as a strong
- 6:55Speaker 1: feeling of enthusiasm or excitement for something or about doing something.
- 7:02Speaker 1: Passion is also strong and barely controllable emotion. Okay, that's passion. Career.
- 7:11Speaker 1: Career is defined as an occupation undertaken for a significant
- 7:15Speaker 1: period of a person's life and with opportunities for progress,
- 7:20Speaker 1: a profession for which one trains and which is undertaken
- 7:24Speaker 1: as a permanent calling. Job. The definition of job is
- 7:29Speaker 1: a piece of work or specific task done as part
- 7:33Speaker 1: of a routine with an agreed upon price. It's a
- 7:37Speaker 1: paid position of employment. Now, the definition of purpose, according
- 7:42Speaker 1: to the dictionary, is the reason for which something is
- 7:46Speaker 1: done or created have as one's intention or objective. So
- 7:52Speaker 1: these are very very different descriptives, right, Like passion, career, job, purpose,
- 7:59Speaker 1: they all mean pretty drastically different things, but there are
- 8:04Speaker 1: some ways in which they can coexist. Now, the biggest
- 8:07Speaker 1: issue that I think that we have is that we're
- 8:09Speaker 1: trying to make all of these words the same. We
- 8:13Speaker 1: are thinking that purpose equates career, and that is one
- 8:17Speaker 1: of the biggest mistakes that each of us can make,
- 8:20Speaker 1: because purpose is not a job title. Now, can those
- 8:26Speaker 1: things exist at the same time? Can you have a
- 8:28Speaker 1: job where you are deeply standing in your purpose. Absolutely.
- 8:34Speaker 1: Can you be a lucky one that has a career
- 8:37Speaker 1: that allows you to deeply stand in your purpose while
- 8:39Speaker 1: you're getting paid. Absolutely. However, it doesn't have to be
- 8:45Speaker 1: the case. You do not have to have some grand,
- 8:48Speaker 1: huge life or job to have purpose in your life.
- 8:52Speaker 1: To be standing in your purpose, living in your purpose,
- 8:55Speaker 1: working in your purpose. One of the questions that I got,
- 8:59Speaker 1: uh when I pose the you know, the idea of
- 9:03Speaker 1: submit some questions on my Instagram stories came from at
- 9:07Speaker 1: the Brittany Miller, and she asked me, how do you
- 9:11Speaker 1: define purpose and how did you know that radio was
- 9:14Speaker 1: no longer your purpose? So for me, my definition of
- 9:18Speaker 1: purpose is simply using my unique God given gifts to
- 9:23Speaker 1: be of service to others. I one hundred percent solely
- 9:29Speaker 1: believe that purpose at its core, at its root of
- 9:33Speaker 1: what it is, is being of service to others, utilizing
- 9:38Speaker 1: the unique things about yourself, utilizing your gifts to serve.
- 9:43Speaker 1: That is the entire point of purpose in the way
- 9:46Speaker 1: that I believe things right. Purpose is not just being
- 9:51Speaker 1: highly successful, being lit having people you know admire you
- 9:56Speaker 1: or look up to you. That's not it. That's completely
- 9:59Speaker 1: ego driven purpose. True purpose is using what you have
- 10:04Speaker 1: to be of service to others in a meaningful way,
- 10:07Speaker 1: you know. Um, So I responded to her with that,
- 10:11Speaker 1: But I also wanted to be super clear that I
- 10:14Speaker 1: never viewed radio as my purpose, especially now. You know,
- 10:18Speaker 1: like maybe when I was like first starting out in
- 10:21Speaker 1: radio when I was eighteen, it was kind of like, Okay, yeah,
- 10:25Speaker 1: this is this is like my career path, So this
- 10:28Speaker 1: is what I can plot and plan on for the
- 10:30Speaker 1: rest of my life. Um. But as I've you know,
- 10:33Speaker 1: just gotten deeper into my own journey, I definitely understand
- 10:37Speaker 1: that radio is not my purpose. Now. Was radio my
- 10:40Speaker 1: career for a really long time? Yeah? Did radio serve
- 10:44Speaker 1: as a beautiful vessel for me to extend my purpose
- 10:48Speaker 1: to other people? Apps so lutely I have and always
- 10:53Speaker 1: will view radio as such a sacred honor, you know.
- 10:57Speaker 1: The ability to connect act two people in the world
- 11:02Speaker 1: every single day using my voice. Um, to be able
- 11:05Speaker 1: to live inside someone's head, to be allowed into someone's head,
- 11:09Speaker 1: it's it's truly a sacred responsibility and and such a joy.
- 11:15Speaker 1: But it's not my purpose. It's a job. It's something
- 11:17Speaker 1: I got paid to do. It's something that you know,
- 11:20Speaker 1: I could gain or lose at any given day at
- 11:23Speaker 1: the whims of whatever company I was employed by. And
- 11:25Speaker 1: so purpose can't be your job because purpose can't be
- 11:29Speaker 1: controlled by anybody else. You know, um, purpose can't be
- 11:34Speaker 1: controlled by the whims of society. It can't be controlled
- 11:37Speaker 1: by you know, the whims of a boss. So it's
- 11:40Speaker 1: really important that you understand that that purpose is really
- 11:44Speaker 1: tapping into whatever your unique gifts are. So when I
- 11:47Speaker 1: was responding to Brittany on Instagram, you know, I said,
- 11:51Speaker 1: just to make it clear, you know, purpose is not
- 11:54Speaker 1: the same as a career or a job title. It
- 11:58Speaker 1: is not a title. It is not some thing that
- 12:00Speaker 1: defines you in a way that we put into a
- 12:05Speaker 1: box of societal standards. You know, Purpose is not societal perception.
- 12:10Speaker 1: It's so lead, it's so offering, it's so much bigger
- 12:14Speaker 1: and so much more meaningful. And it's also something that
- 12:16Speaker 1: you can apply to absolutely any and everything in your life. So,
- 12:21Speaker 1: for instance, I defined purpose as utilizing, you know, the
- 12:25Speaker 1: unique God given gifts that I have to be of
- 12:28Speaker 1: service to others. Well, if I were to try to
- 12:31Speaker 1: quantify what I consider to be some of my gifts.
- 12:34Speaker 1: I would say that one of my gifts is communication.
- 12:37Speaker 1: One of my gifts is the ability to really communicate
- 12:40Speaker 1: well with other people, and to be understanding and empathetic
- 12:45Speaker 1: and to be curious. I think curious curiosity is one
- 12:48Speaker 1: of my superpowers, and I also think it does fall
- 12:50Speaker 1: into my purpose because I'm always looking to seek and
- 12:54Speaker 1: understand things that are unknown and then share that information. Um.
- 12:59Speaker 1: I'll so, I also think that part of my gifts
- 13:02Speaker 1: are heart centered leadership. Whenever I've been in positions of
- 13:06Speaker 1: you know, authority in different working spaces, like I believe
- 13:11Speaker 1: at least let someone else sell it. I don't know,
- 13:14Speaker 1: but I believe that I really thrived in those spaces
- 13:17Speaker 1: because I didn't lead with ego. I really wanted people
- 13:23Speaker 1: to give their best and and us to all work
- 13:26Speaker 1: on this common goal with joy and with integrity and
- 13:30Speaker 1: with respect. You know. So I consider that to be
- 13:33Speaker 1: one of my gifts. Um. Another one of my gifts,
- 13:36Speaker 1: I feel is staying out of ego as I work
- 13:39Speaker 1: and as I live, and and sharing that knowingness and
- 13:43Speaker 1: that peace with other people. So if I go by
- 13:46Speaker 1: what I consider all my gifts to be, and I
- 13:50Speaker 1: stand in purpose with those things. Then let's add that up.
- 13:56Speaker 1: That means that I can do almost anything and be
- 14:00Speaker 1: in purpose. And I'm not trying to sound like overly simplified, right,
- 14:03Speaker 1: but what I'm about to say really does seem just
- 14:06Speaker 1: that simple. Whether I am on the radio, whether I
- 14:12Speaker 1: am doing a podcast at my house, whether I am
- 14:16Speaker 1: working at a restaurant, whether I am being a lifeguard,
- 14:23Speaker 1: whether I am you know, being a gardener, being you know,
- 14:28Speaker 1: a florist being. Whatever whatever I do to earn money,
- 14:32Speaker 1: I can still be living in my life's purpose because
- 14:35Speaker 1: the more closely I am connected with myself, the more
- 14:39Speaker 1: I accept and love myself, the more I work on
- 14:42Speaker 1: myself to heal and grow and then share those things
- 14:45Speaker 1: with other people. That is me being in my purpose
- 14:50Speaker 1: on purpose. Whatever I do to make money is completely
- 14:54Speaker 1: outside of that. Now, Can I do things with these
- 14:57Speaker 1: gifts that makes me money, A hundred percent? Absolutely, and
- 15:02Speaker 1: what a joy and what luck that would be. But
- 15:04Speaker 1: I don't have to. I don't have to to live
- 15:07Speaker 1: a purposeful life. And I really want to stress that
- 15:10Speaker 1: point because I talk to so many people who don't
- 15:14Speaker 1: like their jobs or being deeply hard on themselves. By saying,
- 15:18Speaker 1: you know, I don't know what my purposes or you know,
- 15:21Speaker 1: my my life isn't great because I don't have a purpose.
- 15:24Speaker 1: I want to have a purpose. We all have a purpose,
- 15:27Speaker 1: and don't equate yourself value with what you do for
- 15:31Speaker 1: a living. All of that is societal, A lot of
- 15:35Speaker 1: that you don't really have a choice in. Sometimes you know,
- 15:39Speaker 1: depending on your background, depending on where you came from
- 15:42Speaker 1: or what you're doing. But that doesn't mean that you
- 15:44Speaker 1: don't have purpose, and it doesn't mean that you aren't
- 15:46Speaker 1: deserving of living in your purpose. But by tying it
- 15:50Speaker 1: to what you get paid to do, by tying it
- 15:53Speaker 1: to what other people know you as as in a title,
- 15:58Speaker 1: that really is you placing it's on yourself. That's you
- 16:02Speaker 1: limiting who you are and who you can be because
- 16:05Speaker 1: you are living based on the humanity of your experience
- 16:08Speaker 1: and not your soul. So to put that in further context,
- 16:11Speaker 1: I would say this, you know, um, especially like in
- 16:14Speaker 1: the in the Christian community, like you'll hear the saying
- 16:18Speaker 1: of I'm a soul having a human experience. So like,
- 16:22Speaker 1: let me put this into more specific terms, um, Like,
- 16:25Speaker 1: in a lot of like New Age beliefs and understandings
- 16:29Speaker 1: and quotes you might hear the saying of you are
- 16:32Speaker 1: a soul having a human experience. Right. I absolutely believe that.
- 16:38Speaker 1: I believe I'm a soul first and right now my
- 16:40Speaker 1: experience is one of humanity. But that's not all I
- 16:45Speaker 1: am and all I will be right. I'm energy, I'm
- 16:47Speaker 1: a spirit, I'm I'm a soul. I'm of God. I'm
- 16:50Speaker 1: a piece of Him in a bag of bones right now, right,
- 16:53Speaker 1: So that very much speaks to my point of what
- 16:56Speaker 1: is societal ego driven and what is actual soul level purpose?
- 17:03Speaker 1: And actually, since I've mentioned ego a few times, I
- 17:07Speaker 1: want to break down the definition of what ego actually means.
- 17:11Speaker 1: It's funny, Um, a few weeks ago, one of my
- 17:14Speaker 1: girlfriends was over. I had a big group of people
- 17:17Speaker 1: over and Charlemagne was here and we were having fun.
- 17:24Speaker 1: It was very turned at this house, and by turn
- 17:27Speaker 1: I mean all the things, all the things, right, So
- 17:31Speaker 1: he was like, let's tart on the microphones. Let's let's
- 17:36Speaker 1: do a group podcast right now. So like probably six
- 17:40Speaker 1: of us come into the room, lit on a lot
- 17:48Speaker 1: of things, and we turn on the microphones and we
- 17:52Speaker 1: start talking. And mind you, probably none of that will
- 17:56Speaker 1: ever hit the light of day. It's like about forty
- 17:58Speaker 1: five minutes worth of audio that makes no sense. Um.
- 18:02Speaker 1: But like shar was here, Van was here, my Girl
- 18:04Speaker 1: Jazz was here, Humble was here. Like it was really
- 18:07Speaker 1: like a podcast reunion of people that have been on
- 18:10Speaker 1: the show. Um. But you know, I was talking. We
- 18:13Speaker 1: were talking about, you know, what is purpose? And one
- 18:15Speaker 1: of the things that I said was that I think
- 18:18Speaker 1: people when they when they talk about purpose, they get
- 18:22Speaker 1: way too caught up in their egos. And my girl
- 18:25Speaker 1: Jazz was like, no, I don't think it's ego. I
- 18:27Speaker 1: think it's you know, people want direction. A hundred percent
- 18:31Speaker 1: agree with that, but I think that we had a
- 18:33Speaker 1: different use of the way we were defining ego. So
- 18:38Speaker 1: I want to I want to break down what ego means. Now,
- 18:41Speaker 1: if you go by the Webster's Dictionary definition of ego,
- 18:45Speaker 1: it's a person's sense of self esteem or self importance.
- 18:49Speaker 1: So I think a lot of us tend to think
- 18:50Speaker 1: the word ego means like, oh, he has a big ego,
- 18:53Speaker 1: she has a big ego. That that simply means like
- 18:56Speaker 1: arrogance or that you think really highly of yourself. When
- 18:59Speaker 1: I talk about ego, that's not the way in which
- 19:02Speaker 1: I'm using it. Um. From a psychology perspective, ego is
- 19:06Speaker 1: defined as the part of the mind that mediates between
- 19:10Speaker 1: the conscious and the unconscious and is responsible for reality
- 19:15Speaker 1: testing and a sense of personal identity that gets closer
- 19:19Speaker 1: to it. From a more um metaphysical standpoint, ego is
- 19:27Speaker 1: defined as a conscious thinking subject. So the way I
- 19:33Speaker 1: would kind of break that down is the ego is
- 19:38Speaker 1: the human experience. The ego is the human part of
- 19:41Speaker 1: you that is having experiences an outside world and responding
- 19:46Speaker 1: to those experiences. Right, It's it's the piece of you
- 19:50Speaker 1: that is that things are happening to and that you're
- 19:55Speaker 1: reacting to. Your soul is not your ego. Your your
- 19:59Speaker 1: soul is having the experience of humanity, which is the
- 20:03Speaker 1: experience of ego. So to the ego, there's only positive
- 20:10Speaker 1: or negative, which is how we kind of quantify our experiences.
- 20:14Speaker 1: I had a bad day, I had a good day. Um,
- 20:17Speaker 1: oh that's bad news, or wow, things are going so
- 20:20Speaker 1: good for me right now, right Like, that's kind of
- 20:22Speaker 1: how the ego experiences it's human self. It's by the
- 20:27Speaker 1: positives and the negatives, the good and the bads. Um
- 20:30Speaker 1: and it's about creating judgments and perceptions about the experiences
- 20:36Speaker 1: that we're having. Now, your soul doesn't live in that way.
- 20:44Speaker 1: To your soul, there is no such thing as positive
- 20:47Speaker 1: or negative. To the universe. I believe to God, there
- 20:52Speaker 1: is no such thing as positive or negative. Like, you're
- 20:54Speaker 1: not being rewarded and you're not being punished. More so,
- 20:58Speaker 1: you are just having experiences that are meant to lead
- 21:02Speaker 1: you to another place, another level, experiences that are meant
- 21:07Speaker 1: to lead you towards another experience, and your reaction is
- 21:13Speaker 1: what makes all the difference on what that next experience
- 21:16Speaker 1: will be. So when we were talking about ego, and
- 21:20Speaker 1: I said that people are too caught up in their
- 21:23Speaker 1: own ego when they are trying to contemplate their purpose,
- 21:27Speaker 1: what I'm really saying is people are using purpose more
- 21:33Speaker 1: so as a measuring stick of their own self worth
- 21:36Speaker 1: and a measuring stick of how they fare in comparison
- 21:40Speaker 1: to other people. And that's where you can really limit
- 21:44Speaker 1: yourself and things can get really, really tricky when you're
- 21:48Speaker 1: quantifying it in that way. So I just found this
- 21:52Speaker 1: worksheet that I did with Ron and Mary Holnick, who
- 21:55Speaker 1: if you're in the l A area, they are both too,
- 21:58Speaker 1: absolutely brilliant thought leaders UM, who are both clinical psychologists
- 22:05Speaker 1: for over forty years. UM, but do a lot of
- 22:07Speaker 1: work around the soul, a lot of work around spirituality
- 22:12Speaker 1: and psychology. Um. They're incredible, incredible, incredible. But so they
- 22:16Speaker 1: have this worksheet about purpose that I filled out recently,
- 22:19Speaker 1: and it was kind of cool to fill it out,
- 22:21Speaker 1: being that I feel like I have a deeper understanding
- 22:24Speaker 1: from mine at this point in my evolution, so like
- 22:28Speaker 1: it's broken down in terms of human experience versus soul experience.
- 22:33Speaker 1: So number one asked me, what is my purpose? I said,
- 22:37Speaker 1: to use my unique God given gifts to be of
- 22:39Speaker 1: service to others, to share tools of healing and self
- 22:43Speaker 1: awareness with women of color, for generational healing of trauma
- 22:47Speaker 1: to occur. What are my opportunities within my human experience
- 22:52Speaker 1: to do this? I put broadcasting, literature, workshops, social media. Right,
- 22:58Speaker 1: those are all things that I kind of used to
- 23:00Speaker 1: share who I am and what I'm learning and um,
- 23:05Speaker 1: what I've discovered. What are Number three? The question was
- 23:10Speaker 1: what are my gifts? I view my gifts as communication, curiosity, empathy, kindness,
- 23:17Speaker 1: and authentic self expression. How can I be Number four?
- 23:21Speaker 1: Is how can I be of service and make a
- 23:23Speaker 1: meaningful contribution in my human experience. I put exhibiting authentic
- 23:30Speaker 1: self expression and heart centered leadership and staying out of
- 23:33Speaker 1: ego as I work. Now on another level, it says
- 23:37Speaker 1: one of the questions asked, or what are my soul opportunities?
- 23:42Speaker 1: What are the ways in which my soul has provided
- 23:45Speaker 1: opportunities to do this work of purpose? My response to
- 23:49Speaker 1: this is my own healing, transcending karma, transmuting karma, transcending
- 23:56Speaker 1: and transmuting generational trauma, living in loving and compassion. So
- 24:02Speaker 1: those are the things that I think that my experiences
- 24:05Speaker 1: of being a human thus far have provided me with.
- 24:08Speaker 1: Right Like I have done some deep dive digging on
- 24:12Speaker 1: a lot of pains that I've had in my life,
- 24:15Speaker 1: on a lot of experiences that I've had, um things
- 24:19Speaker 1: that I've done, things that have been done to me,
- 24:22Speaker 1: you know, And I think that even in a lot
- 24:24Speaker 1: of those challenges, the soul opportunities that have provided me
- 24:28Speaker 1: was my own healing, right like my own ability to
- 24:31Speaker 1: break patterns, my own ability to break karma, my own
- 24:34Speaker 1: ability to end certain traumas in my family lineage with
- 24:39Speaker 1: me and not pass them on to my child and
- 24:43Speaker 1: opportunities to with an open heart seek out a life
- 24:49Speaker 1: of more impact and meaning and live in a more
- 24:52Speaker 1: compassionate and kind mind state towards everyone, towards you know,
- 24:56Speaker 1: the peaceful ambi aggressive. So that I thought that was
- 25:00Speaker 1: really beautiful and that was really helpful, And that's kind
- 25:04Speaker 1: of a way for me to break down a little
- 25:06Speaker 1: further to you the ways in which I view purpose. Um,
- 25:10Speaker 1: I also want to share some ways that I think
- 25:13Speaker 1: that you can start tapping in a little bit deeper
- 25:16Speaker 1: into whatever you consider your purpose to be, or how
- 25:19Speaker 1: you can get a jump start on finding what that
- 25:22Speaker 1: is to begin with. So ways to begin to find
- 25:26Speaker 1: your purpose, I would say the first is that you
- 25:29Speaker 1: really need to accept that purpose is a constantly evolving
- 25:35Speaker 1: experience that is intertwined with the entirety of your life's journey.
- 25:40Speaker 1: If you have not figured out purpose from one weekend
- 25:43Speaker 1: of vision boarding, guess what you weren't supposed to. That's okay.
- 25:51Speaker 1: And at every new level of you discovering yourself, at
- 25:55Speaker 1: every new level of you healing yourself and growing, there's
- 25:58Speaker 1: gonna be new facets to your purpose. So it's kind
- 26:00Speaker 1: of like imagine like what a raw diamond is, you know,
- 26:03Speaker 1: raw diamond, It's it's stuck in the earth, it's covered
- 26:09Speaker 1: in rock, whatever the you know, specific geological measurements of
- 26:13Speaker 1: it are. But it's it's covered. It's not looking like
- 26:16Speaker 1: the ring on your finger. Right well, with every but
- 26:19Speaker 1: it's still valuable. It's still beautiful and valuable. And then
- 26:22Speaker 1: with every new piece of you that you're uncovering, there
- 26:26Speaker 1: is a refining, there's a sharpening, there is a chiseling,
- 26:31Speaker 1: and every new layer and every new opportunity eventually reveal,
- 26:35Speaker 1: you know, a VVS stone with beautiful clarity and and
- 26:39Speaker 1: all of the brilliant facets that make it dance and
- 26:43Speaker 1: come alive when you see it's set, you know, on jewelry.
- 26:47Speaker 1: And that's kind of how your purpose is really meant
- 26:49Speaker 1: to be. It's always you're always valuable. But depending on
- 26:53Speaker 1: how much work and effort you put into yourself, you're
- 26:57Speaker 1: either the raw, fresh out the earth diamond or you know,
- 27:00Speaker 1: you're the brilliant VVS stone on a fifty carrot ring.
- 27:04Speaker 1: You know, that's that that's in the news. So that's
- 27:08Speaker 1: kind of how I look at this evolution of purpose.
- 27:10Speaker 1: It's this constantly evolving, being an experience that is really
- 27:17Speaker 1: going to change and take new shape and new form
- 27:20Speaker 1: over time, and you just kind of have to surrender
- 27:22Speaker 1: to however you're being utilized in service, in purpose. For others,
- 27:28Speaker 1: it's it's not always going to look like what your
- 27:31Speaker 1: plan is um and God willing, it just continues to
- 27:36Speaker 1: expand and expand and expand, and before you know what,
- 27:38Speaker 1: you're living a life that you never really dreamed of,
- 27:41Speaker 1: your a version of yourself that you couldn't even fathom before.
- 27:45Speaker 1: So also in this line of things of ways to
- 27:48Speaker 1: find your purpose, UM, someone asked me on those Instagram stories,
- 27:52Speaker 1: how conscious do you need to be to realize your
- 27:55Speaker 1: God given purpose? That's from j Can Honeybean. How conscious
- 28:00Speaker 1: do you need to be to realize your God given purpose? Um?
- 28:07Speaker 1: Both vary and also not very I think the thing
- 28:13Speaker 1: about purpose again with it being that that being that
- 28:17Speaker 1: is constantly evolving and taking new shape. I mean, there's
- 28:21Speaker 1: so much opportunity for so many different versions of it.
- 28:24Speaker 1: So you can absolutely, even at the bare bones level
- 28:28Speaker 1: of your growth, be exhibiting pieces of your purpose in
- 28:32Speaker 1: the way in which they're available to you in that
- 28:35Speaker 1: moment um and then as you expand that and you
- 28:37Speaker 1: grow and you become more of who you've always been, UM,
- 28:42Speaker 1: you get to really tackle maybe some bigger service projects.
- 28:45Speaker 1: You get to tackle bigger ways and bigger vessels for
- 28:50Speaker 1: you to use that. UM. So, I think at whatever
- 28:55Speaker 1: stage you're in in your growth, you absolutely have an
- 28:58Speaker 1: incredible amount of all you and worthiness within which to
- 29:03Speaker 1: display your purpose. Another question that I got in that
- 29:08Speaker 1: same vein was how do you find your purpose in life?
- 29:11Speaker 1: I'm having a hard time finding mine. That's from at
- 29:14Speaker 1: Beautiful to four seven seven. This actually reminds me one
- 29:19Speaker 1: of my dear girlfriends who I know is listening to
- 29:21Speaker 1: this episode right now. I'm not going to call her
- 29:23Speaker 1: out by name, but I know she's going to know
- 29:24Speaker 1: who she is and text me when she hears this. UM.
- 29:28Speaker 1: You know, she had she had listened to one of
- 29:30Speaker 1: my other episodes, and she at texts me and she said,
- 29:33Speaker 1: you know, I just don't know what's wrong with me
- 29:36Speaker 1: because I have been spending the whole last few months
- 29:40Speaker 1: trying to figure out my purpose and I just haven't
- 29:42Speaker 1: figured it out yet. I don't know what's wrong with me. Um,
- 29:44Speaker 1: And I just want to bring back to what I
- 29:45Speaker 1: said earlier. You know, more than likely you are already
- 29:49Speaker 1: living a great deal of your life in purpose and
- 29:53Speaker 1: on purpose. You're just not giving yourself the credit for it.
- 29:56Speaker 1: And you're also thinking of purpose as a destination. You're
- 30:01Speaker 1: going to be arriving at your thinking of purpose in
- 30:04Speaker 1: terms of it being a job title. So because maybe
- 30:06Speaker 1: you didn't find the gig or the career or the
- 30:10Speaker 1: job that you can now stand in and say, yes,
- 30:13Speaker 1: this is my purpose, Um, then you think you failed.
- 30:17Speaker 1: Well new splash. The majority of the world, not just America,
- 30:21Speaker 1: but if we look at the scope of the world,
- 30:23Speaker 1: who's really doing that anyway? You know, Like, who's really
- 30:26Speaker 1: having these gigantic lives, um, where they're getting paid to
- 30:31Speaker 1: quote unquote being their purpose? I mean stop it be
- 30:35Speaker 1: way more gentle with yourself, you know. And and for her,
- 30:38Speaker 1: it's kind of like from outside looking in on her life,
- 30:41Speaker 1: I see this brilliant, incredible, like deeply empathetic woman who
- 30:48Speaker 1: serves as such a pillar of strength to not only
- 30:52Speaker 1: her own family, her husband and her kids, but a
- 30:55Speaker 1: pillar of strength to her friendship. She is one of
- 30:57Speaker 1: the most thoughtful people that I've ever met. She has
- 31:00Speaker 1: a hundred percent um strengthened me as a friend, been
- 31:04Speaker 1: been so supportive. She's one of those people that when
- 31:09Speaker 1: you know her, you feel seen, you feel heard, you
- 31:11Speaker 1: feel valued. And I'm like, girl, that's that's you standing
- 31:16Speaker 1: in your purpose. Whatever you do, You're already sharing your
- 31:20Speaker 1: purpose with so many people. Which leads me to another
- 31:23Speaker 1: question I got from at Carlita Durand she her question
- 31:27Speaker 1: to me, was you mentioned serving quote unquote a lot.
- 31:32Speaker 1: What does that exactly mean? So serving was one of
- 31:35Speaker 1: my favorite words, UM that I begin using in kind
- 31:39Speaker 1: of my more spiritual vocabulary. UM. I specifically use it
- 31:42Speaker 1: in terms of you've probably seen online me saying like
- 31:46Speaker 1: you know, UM, I make choices that are the most
- 31:48Speaker 1: serving to me. So there's a big difference between I
- 31:51Speaker 1: make good choices, or I make good choices for myself,
- 31:57Speaker 1: or this is the best choice or option for me,
- 32:00Speaker 1: and I have serving choices. I'm making serving decisions. Serving
- 32:06Speaker 1: is not necessarily equated with like the best option, but
- 32:13Speaker 1: it is the most soul satisfying option. Right. So if
- 32:17Speaker 1: I'm making if I'm saying I made the best choice,
- 32:20Speaker 1: that's more like ego line. That's more me talking about
- 32:24Speaker 1: my human experience and how that choice is going to
- 32:26Speaker 1: benefit me as a person in the world. Right, the
- 32:30Speaker 1: most serving choice is what fills my soul. It is
- 32:33Speaker 1: the choice that is the most spiritually beneficial to me,
- 32:37Speaker 1: and the choice that is the most beneficial to not
- 32:41Speaker 1: just myself but all those that are connected to me. So,
- 32:44Speaker 1: when you do things based from a space of thinking,
- 32:50Speaker 1: is this serving me? It's not is this rewarding me?
- 32:58Speaker 1: You know, it's this really serving what my soul needs
- 33:05Speaker 1: and desires. Is it really serving to help me ascend
- 33:11Speaker 1: to the best version of myself? Or is it serving
- 33:14Speaker 1: me in a way that helps this situation ascend to
- 33:18Speaker 1: the best possible outcome for those involved? So that's kind
- 33:21Speaker 1: of like the way that I think of that term
- 33:23Speaker 1: and the way that I use that term. So right now,
- 33:25Speaker 1: if you've been listening to the show and you are
- 33:28Speaker 1: feeling like a girl, I still don't know what the
- 33:30Speaker 1: hell are you talking about? Or I still don't know
- 33:35Speaker 1: what my damn purposes? Um again, that's completely fine. But
- 33:40Speaker 1: here here's some really like tangible ways to start diving
- 33:42Speaker 1: into that. Okay, A really important component about finding your
- 33:47Speaker 1: purpose and standing in your purpose is connecting with your
- 33:51Speaker 1: intuition and tapping into the things that are inherent to
- 33:54Speaker 1: you and the things that flow through you with effortless ease.
- 34:00Speaker 1: That is the real, real route of the way to
- 34:03Speaker 1: find what your gifts are. Because if if you were
- 34:05Speaker 1: listening to the show earlier and you're like, well, I
- 34:06Speaker 1: don't know what my gifts are. I mean I don't
- 34:10Speaker 1: I can't sing, I can't dance. What is my gift? Well,
- 34:13Speaker 1: I can't do either of those things either. That's why
- 34:18Speaker 1: when I listed my gifts, you know, it's I really
- 34:20Speaker 1: listed for you, guys. The things that come really naturally
- 34:24Speaker 1: to me, that are in that are inherent facets of
- 34:29Speaker 1: my character, that are are inherent facets of who I
- 34:33Speaker 1: am no matter what I'm doing, and and facets of
- 34:37Speaker 1: who I've always been. Um. There are also things that
- 34:40Speaker 1: come really deeply easy to me. Communication. It's always been
- 34:45Speaker 1: so easy to me. Um, That's what I always excelled
- 34:48Speaker 1: at in school. You know, even I think I was
- 34:50Speaker 1: in first grade and I was reading a twelfth grade
- 34:52Speaker 1: level or something. I got tested for something, right, Because
- 34:55Speaker 1: I loved to communicate, and I loved to be curious
- 35:02Speaker 1: about everything in the world. You know, I'm curious about
- 35:05Speaker 1: myself and I'm curious about the world, and those are
- 35:08Speaker 1: two of my superpowers. So I absolutely identify those things
- 35:13Speaker 1: as vessels for my purpose and pieces of my purpose puzzle.
- 35:18Speaker 1: So think of it in terms of that, you know, Um,
- 35:21Speaker 1: what are the things that are so effortless to you?
- 35:25Speaker 1: I I and even start looking at, you know, some
- 35:29Speaker 1: some things in childhood that maybe you haven't paid attention to.
- 35:32Speaker 1: You know, I've always been someone that I think, when
- 35:36Speaker 1: I'm my most balanced, UM, give really good advice, you know.
- 35:39Speaker 1: I I've naturally always been more of a counselor to
- 35:43Speaker 1: people in my life, and not because I know everything,
- 35:46Speaker 1: but just for whatever reason, that's how my soul connects
- 35:49Speaker 1: with other people. You know. UM, I think back to
- 35:53Speaker 1: I was in daycare when I was in elementary school,
- 35:56Speaker 1: and one of the daycare teachers asked me for advice
- 36:00Speaker 1: about her man, which now is crazy because no adult
- 36:05Speaker 1: better be talking to my child about their man problems.
- 36:08Speaker 1: But you know, I think that just really spoke to
- 36:11Speaker 1: someone's comfortability with me and relatability with me, and just
- 36:15Speaker 1: interest on what my perspective could be. UM. And so
- 36:19Speaker 1: look back at things like that, you know, what, what
- 36:21Speaker 1: are things that just kind of kept stumbling your way
- 36:23Speaker 1: or coming out of you really effortlessly that you do well.
- 36:27Speaker 1: You know, some people are master motivators. Some people are
- 36:31Speaker 1: so exceptional about helping other people see themselves. That's purpose.
- 36:37Speaker 1: You can do any job and be in and on
- 36:41Speaker 1: purpose with that gift, you know, with that ability. So
- 36:46Speaker 1: really spend some time connecting with your intuition. You know,
- 36:49Speaker 1: it's really important that before you buy every single course online,
- 36:53Speaker 1: before you go to every single empowerment brunch, which are
- 36:56Speaker 1: awesome tools, but they don't work if you don't work.
- 37:00Speaker 1: You know, before you do all of that, before you
- 37:02Speaker 1: expend all this money trying to get someone else to
- 37:05Speaker 1: guide you and lead you to the truth about yourself,
- 37:08Speaker 1: consider taking some time with you being more connected and
- 37:14Speaker 1: grounded in yourself, you know, valuing yourself more, loving yourself more,
- 37:19Speaker 1: accepting yourself more, and slowly uncovering and unlayering those pieces
- 37:24Speaker 1: of you that stand out that are so uniquely you,
- 37:28Speaker 1: that have benefited the people in your life in some
- 37:30Speaker 1: way or another. You know, you don't have to have
- 37:32Speaker 1: a lot of money to be generous of spirit. You
- 37:35Speaker 1: don't have to have a bunch of opportunities or things
- 37:40Speaker 1: um to serve other people, Like, what are ways in
- 37:44Speaker 1: which you have really helped people that don't include money,
- 37:48Speaker 1: or that don't include job perks, or that don't include,
- 37:51Speaker 1: you know, something physically tangible. Are you a great listener?
- 37:56Speaker 1: Are you somebody that you know is great at helping
- 38:00Speaker 1: people unlock themselves? Um? Are you somebody that is just
- 38:06Speaker 1: kind of naturally a safe place for others? Like? That's purpose?
- 38:11Speaker 1: You know. Another great way to access that too, if
- 38:14Speaker 1: if you're still kind of feeling like, you know, I'm
- 38:16Speaker 1: not centered enough is ask people that know you, Ask
- 38:20Speaker 1: people that you trust and admire. Don't just ask anybody,
- 38:24Speaker 1: don't just allow any and everybody input into your life,
- 38:26Speaker 1: but definitely tap into people that you trust and that
- 38:30Speaker 1: you admire for help people that know you and see you.
- 38:34Speaker 1: I'm sure you would be shocked and surprised at some
- 38:37Speaker 1: of the things that these people have to share with
- 38:39Speaker 1: you about yourself. You know, sometimes we're we're way too
- 38:42Speaker 1: hard on ourselves, We're way too biased to see ourselves
- 38:45Speaker 1: clearly and in real time, and it is important and
- 38:48Speaker 1: necessary for us to kind of concede to a deeper understanding.
- 38:53Speaker 1: Someone else may have some kind of intuitive input that
- 38:56Speaker 1: they can have into our lives. So I would really
- 39:00Speaker 1: really strongly suggest you go that route too. And for
- 39:04Speaker 1: those that are listening right now that are really really
- 39:08Speaker 1: serious and committed to either finding your purpose or activating it,
- 39:14Speaker 1: standing deeper inside of what you already know to be
- 39:17Speaker 1: your purpose, whichever whichever place you kind of fall on
- 39:21Speaker 1: that tree. Something that is truly a non negotiable to
- 39:25Speaker 1: that is developing your spiritual practice. It's really connecting with yourself,
- 39:31Speaker 1: getting to know yourself deeper, accepting all of the aspects
- 39:35Speaker 1: of who you are, the light and the dark, you know,
- 39:38Speaker 1: the shadow parts you don't want people to know about,
- 39:40Speaker 1: and the best parts that you want everyone to see.
- 39:43Speaker 1: It's really embracing all the sides of yourself and and
- 39:48Speaker 1: committing yourself to to a very serving daily practice, you know,
- 39:53Speaker 1: and daily practice, your daily spiritual practice. It doesn't by
- 39:57Speaker 1: that personally. I don't mean like, you know, you have
- 40:00Speaker 1: to be in church every day, or you know you
- 40:03Speaker 1: have to do all these really grand, grandiose rituals um
- 40:10Speaker 1: for me my spiritual practice. And I've done this on
- 40:13Speaker 1: i G t V before, So if you're on my
- 40:15Speaker 1: Instagram at Debbie Brown, one of the videos is me
- 40:18Speaker 1: going over what my daily spiritual practices. UM. But for me,
- 40:21Speaker 1: that looks like meditation. Meditation is my gateway drug. To me,
- 40:25Speaker 1: it is the most important part of my spiritual development,
- 40:29Speaker 1: That ability to get quiet and get still, that ability
- 40:32Speaker 1: to stop asking and trying to interpret and rationalizing and
- 40:39Speaker 1: all of the things, and being able to just let God,
- 40:43Speaker 1: let the universe download into me, input into me, you know, UM, meditation.
- 40:49Speaker 1: I do a lot of affirmations throughout my day. The
- 40:52Speaker 1: affirmation I created for myself for this season in my
- 40:54Speaker 1: life is I am a precious child of God living
- 40:58Speaker 1: in the mastery of my most loving and authentic self,
- 41:02Speaker 1: exercising joyful discipline and leading from my soul's center. So
- 41:08Speaker 1: I'm gonna say that again. I'm a precious child of
- 41:11Speaker 1: God living in the mastery of my most loving and
- 41:13Speaker 1: authentic self, exercising joyful discipline and leading from my soul's center.
- 41:19Speaker 1: That is affirmation I wrote just for me. If you
- 41:22Speaker 1: want to use it, please feel free. But that is
- 41:24Speaker 1: something I say to myself throughout the day. I have
- 41:27Speaker 1: it taped on the mirror in my bathroom. I start
- 41:29Speaker 1: my day with it, in my day with it. Whenever
- 41:32Speaker 1: I happen to pass by that bathroom at another point.
- 41:34Speaker 1: You know, throughout the day I say it, I stop,
- 41:38Speaker 1: I take a deep breath while I look at it.
- 41:41Speaker 1: And the way that that has subtly worked in my
- 41:43Speaker 1: life has been indescribable. You know. It's it's really all
- 41:47Speaker 1: of those little steps that make you who you are,
- 41:50Speaker 1: those little steps that are your unlocking and not the
- 41:52Speaker 1: grand gestures. You know. Um, I have that affirmation up
- 41:57Speaker 1: the thing that I say in my life, the moment
- 42:01Speaker 1: I wake up, before I get out of the bed
- 42:03Speaker 1: to go to the restroom, before I brush my teeth,
- 42:05Speaker 1: before I scroll, I start every day and I look up,
- 42:09Speaker 1: even on my most tired days, I look up with
- 42:12Speaker 1: a smile and I say, thank you God for my son,
- 42:16Speaker 1: thank you God for my family, thank you God for
- 42:19Speaker 1: my friends, thank you God for my life. I say
- 42:23Speaker 1: that all my best days. I say that all my
- 42:25Speaker 1: worst days. But that has really helped to cultivate a
- 42:29Speaker 1: lot of extra gratitude in my life. Finding daily joys
- 42:33Speaker 1: has become a part of my spiritual practice, identifying small
- 42:37Speaker 1: moments of joy that make me smile or make me
- 42:40Speaker 1: feel peace, um, and just appreciating them in real time.
- 42:45Speaker 1: And really taking a moment to notice them. That has
- 42:48Speaker 1: become a huge part of my spiritual practice. I'm a
- 42:51Speaker 1: big reader. I'm a big for lack of a better word,
- 42:54Speaker 1: like do good or like I like to reach out
- 42:57Speaker 1: to people. I like to do special things for people
- 43:00Speaker 1: that I care about on a daily basis in some
- 43:03Speaker 1: kind of way. Um, those are all parts of my
- 43:06Speaker 1: spiritual practice. But more than just giving me something to
- 43:10Speaker 1: do every day, those are all tools that have helped
- 43:13Speaker 1: me further unlock and deepen what my purposes and become
- 43:17Speaker 1: the most authentic version of myself. I would also say,
- 43:21Speaker 1: and and if you have a pen and paper nearby,
- 43:23Speaker 1: please I really want you to write these down. If
- 43:26Speaker 1: you are trying to figure out what your purposes or
- 43:30Speaker 1: again to stand more deeply inside of it. Here are
- 43:34Speaker 1: some great self inquiry questions to ask yourself and to
- 43:38Speaker 1: share with God. One of them is, God, please show
- 43:43Speaker 1: me my next step. If you have the job of
- 43:46Speaker 1: your dreams or if you're searching for a better one.
- 43:49Speaker 1: If you are trying to figure it out, do not
- 43:51Speaker 1: look up at that mountain and feel defeated. Get God involved,
- 43:56Speaker 1: but not in a way that it's you dictating to
- 43:58Speaker 1: him what you want your comes to be. He has
- 44:01Speaker 1: to lead you, he has to be in control. So say, God,
- 44:06Speaker 1: please show me my next step. Another one that I
- 44:09Speaker 1: think is really great if you're on your journey to
- 44:13Speaker 1: really figuring out who you are, or to loving all
- 44:15Speaker 1: of who you are, to being at peace and an
- 44:17Speaker 1: acceptance of who you are. God, please show me the
- 44:22Speaker 1: truth of who I am. That's probably one of the
- 44:26Speaker 1: most powerful things that you can say on your road
- 44:30Speaker 1: to purpose, that you can really say to yourself and
- 44:34Speaker 1: your mind and also outloud to the universe several times
- 44:37Speaker 1: throughout the day. Write this down, God, please show me
- 44:41Speaker 1: the truth of who I am. We play so many
- 44:46Speaker 1: expectations on God in the universe. While on one hand,
- 44:50Speaker 1: I do think it's really important to be as specific
- 44:53Speaker 1: as possible when you're creating your vision, to write out,
- 44:56Speaker 1: you know, line by line, all the ways in which
- 44:59Speaker 1: you want things to happen. I want the car, I
- 45:01Speaker 1: want the house, I wanted this, putting the pictures up.
- 45:03Speaker 1: All of that is amazing, But we also have to
- 45:07Speaker 1: be really clear that some of the things that we
- 45:09Speaker 1: want for us are not the things that are for us.
- 45:12Speaker 1: And usually there is so much more There's so much
- 45:16Speaker 1: more depth that God wants to offer to you. There's
- 45:19Speaker 1: so many more gifts an opportunity that God wants to
- 45:24Speaker 1: offer to you that we limit by creating the full
- 45:28Speaker 1: terms of our agreements with this life. So God, please
- 45:33Speaker 1: show me the truth of who I am and be
- 45:36Speaker 1: in full acceptance of whatever is revealed to you. Because
- 45:40Speaker 1: with saying that, it is such a powerful unlocking, and
- 45:43Speaker 1: it is such a powerful catalyst for transformational growth in
- 45:48Speaker 1: your life because it can be many things. It can
- 45:52Speaker 1: be God showing you the great pieces of you that
- 45:55Speaker 1: you are not looking at. And it can also be
- 45:57Speaker 1: God showing you your darkness so you can see yourself
- 46:01Speaker 1: with full eyes, you know, and and both of those
- 46:05Speaker 1: things are necessary for you to become the next evolution
- 46:09Speaker 1: of whoever you're meant to be. So those two things
- 46:11Speaker 1: one more time, where God please show me my next step.
- 46:14Speaker 1: Say that with me. God, please show me my next step.
- 46:18Speaker 1: God please show me the truth of who I am.
- 46:22Speaker 1: Say that with me, God, please show me the truth
- 46:26Speaker 1: of who I am. Yeah, I'm still here. I just
- 46:37Speaker 1: want to take a second and really create some space
- 46:41Speaker 1: after invoking that energy for us. All right, I have
- 46:45Speaker 1: some homework for you. I want you to go on
- 46:48Speaker 1: my I G t v s on my Instagram at
- 46:50Speaker 1: Debbie Brown, and there's two videos I want you to watch.
- 46:53Speaker 1: Both of them are nine minutes. Each one of them
- 46:56Speaker 1: is me going over my daily spiritual practice. The next
- 47:02Speaker 1: one is five Books to read for spiritual Growth. I
- 47:06Speaker 1: go over five of my current favorite books that I
- 47:10Speaker 1: think you'll really dig. I think it'll really add some
- 47:14Speaker 1: new layers of discovery for yourself that you can really
- 47:18Speaker 1: utilize on this journey to purpose. Also a great DVD.
- 47:22Speaker 1: I don't know all the places this is available. I
- 47:26Speaker 1: have it on iTunes. I also have it on DVD,
- 47:28Speaker 1: even though I don't have a DVD player anymore. Um,
- 47:31Speaker 1: but it's it's a movie that I watched long, long,
- 47:35Speaker 1: long time ago that I think really beautifully expresses and
- 47:39Speaker 1: illustrates what the true meaning of a life purposes. And
- 47:44Speaker 1: the movie is called Finding Joe. Finding Joe, it's a
- 47:50Speaker 1: documentary about the teachings of Joseph Campbell. Now, Joseph Campbell
- 47:54Speaker 1: was many things. Um theologist, he was a I meant God,
- 48:01Speaker 1: just a researcher on all the belief systems and all
- 48:04Speaker 1: of time, and in a lot of his teachings, he
- 48:09Speaker 1: has identified what he considers to be the purpose of life,
- 48:14Speaker 1: like the very real purpose of why we're even here,
- 48:19Speaker 1: the point of it all. UM. And it's also a
- 48:21Speaker 1: common thread that he had identified in every story ever
- 48:26Speaker 1: told and in every religion ever believed and followed. UM.
- 48:32Speaker 1: And it's it's this thing that he has identified, UM,
- 48:37Speaker 1: that I think can aid everybody really greatly in their purpose.
- 48:41Speaker 1: It's called the hero's journey. That's the thing that's the
- 48:45Speaker 1: common tie, the commonality in every story ever told and
- 48:50Speaker 1: every religion ever followed, UM, the Hero's Journey. And so
- 48:54Speaker 1: it's a really beautiful, beautiful movie. A lot of incredible
- 48:58Speaker 1: thought leaders are in this document, Nry. It's about ninety minutes.
- 49:02Speaker 1: Watch it, Watch it with your spouse, watch it with
- 49:04Speaker 1: your kids. It's really really beautiful no matter what background
- 49:09Speaker 1: you are. UM, this is not trying to change your
- 49:12Speaker 1: beliefs in any way. This is more so just highlighting
- 49:15Speaker 1: some of the beauty and what your beliefs are in
- 49:18Speaker 1: a way that is more applicable to you. So that
- 49:20Speaker 1: is called finding Joe. It might be on a streaming service,
- 49:25Speaker 1: but I do know for shorts on iTunes. So try
- 49:27Speaker 1: to rent or buy it there um and you won't
- 49:31Speaker 1: regret it. And if you check it out, please let
- 49:33Speaker 1: me know. So I hope this episode turned out okay.
- 49:38Speaker 1: I had a good time recording it. Um, it was
- 49:40Speaker 1: interesting to me. Uh yeah. So the pressures of purpose.
- 49:44Speaker 1: In closing, I just really want to say, please, please,
- 49:48Speaker 1: please be gentle with yourself. Um, do not use purpose,
- 49:56Speaker 1: the idea of purpose, in the same way that you
- 49:59Speaker 1: are using your Instagram, which is as a tool of comparison. Okay,
- 50:03Speaker 1: not all purpose has to be grant in the way
- 50:07Speaker 1: that is quantifiable by likes or by curated perception. Please
- 50:13Speaker 1: know and believe that because of the truth of the
- 50:16Speaker 1: matter is that's not everybody's mission in this life. Everybody's
- 50:21Speaker 1: mission in this life is not to be world famous
- 50:25Speaker 1: or super rich or whatever else you know society glorifies.
- 50:30Speaker 1: We are all here to learn and to be and
- 50:33Speaker 1: to do different things. But none of those things are
- 50:38Speaker 1: greater than another person's or better than another person's. We
- 50:42Speaker 1: just have to stop looking at our own growth and
- 50:44Speaker 1: our own lives through the very warped perspective of American society.
- 50:51Speaker 1: You will cause your own suffering if you do that.
- 50:53Speaker 1: You have to find the beauty and whatever your life
- 50:56Speaker 1: is in this moment, and whatever cards you were dealt,
- 50:59Speaker 1: whatever hands you're playing. All right, I gotta go before
- 51:02Speaker 1: Quest week, So I love y'all of peace. Big thank
