Latest / BREAK/FIX the Motorsports & Vehicle Enthusiast Variety Show / Preserving Provenance: How The Motor Chain is Revolutionizing Classic Car History
Transcript
- 0:00BreakFix podcast is all about capturing the living history of people from
- 0:04all over the autosphere, from wrench turners and racers to artists, authors,
- 0:09designers, and everything in between.
- 0:11Our goal is to inspire a new generation of petrolheads that wonder.
- 0:16How did they get that job or become that person?
- 0:19The road to success is paved by all of us because everyone has a story.
- 0:27What if there was a better way to manage, preserve, share, and
- 0:32transfer the history of your classic vehicle through its lifetime?
- 0:36Steeped in the latest technology, the Motor Chain, founded by computer
- 0:40scientist and car enthusiast Julio Saiz, aims to satisfy that very need.
- 0:46And he's here to explain how it all works and why securing and verifying
- 0:51the provenance of your collector vehicle is critical to its history.
- 0:55Julio, welcome to BreakFix.
- 0:57Hello, Eric.
- 0:58Thank you very much for having me in the Break and Fix podcast.
- 1:01Well, like all good BreakFix stories, there's a superhero origin.
- 1:05So let's talk about the who, what, when, and where of you
- 1:08and how all this came to be.
- 1:10What's your petrolhead origin story?
- 1:12I've been always fascinated about things that move fast.
- 1:16Originally, I wanted to be a fighter pilot back in Spain, and I'm from Madrid.
- 1:20I didn't make it.
- 1:21You have to study very hard.
- 1:23When you were 18 years old and, uh, finally didn't make it to the air
- 1:27force in Spain, then I decided to do computer science engineering.
- 1:31I was right before the internet bubble.
- 1:34So it was very, uh, you know, fashion to join that profession, which I did.
- 1:39And I've been in that industry for 20 years.
- 1:42Time to game.
- 1:43Okay.
- 1:43Salary.
- 1:44So I start to buy cars.
- 1:46I still own my very first car, which I bought in 2001.
- 1:50It's an Alfa Romeo hatchback, 147.
- 1:53I don't think that car was ever sold in the US, but I love it.
- 1:57My winter car, I just took it out on the summer sleep.
- 2:00Because in 2010 or 11, I bought...
- 2:04Honda is 2000, which is the car I was craving since I was, I don't
- 2:08know, I mean, maybe 20 years age.
- 2:11And I'm the second owner of that car.
- 2:13Very proud of that.
- 2:14And it has now 70, 000 kilometers of joy.
- 2:18It's a hundred percent OEM.
- 2:20I don't plan to modify the car at all.
- 2:21And then in 2017, I wanted to buy a proper classic car.
- 2:27And that was the starting of the motor chain, because I got
- 2:30my hands into 1977 Ferrari 308 GTB, with a new metallic saddle.
- 2:35And that was the origin of the motor chain idea.
- 2:38That was the ignition of that.
- 2:40In the video on your website, where you talk about the founding
- 2:43of the motor chain, the 308 is behind you and you're driving it
- 2:46around and you're talking about it.
- 2:47And you say very a matter of factly that when you were shopping for
- 2:51your first classic car, you really didn't have something in mind.
- 2:54And I kind of chuckled because we're all petrol heads of a certain
- 2:57age and the 308 is a bit the icon.
- 3:00So I wanted to ask, was Magnum PI as big of a deal in Europe as it
- 3:04was in the United States in the 80s?
- 3:06Yes, Magnum PI is very well known.
- 3:08It was never my favorite, to be honest.
- 3:10It's not a TV show I like it a lot.
- 3:13I'm more full moon with Bruce Willis, you know, and this kind of TV show.
- 3:17That was my show in the 80s.
- 3:19So Miami Vice, for example, more than Magnum PI.
- 3:22The 308 came by luck, I will say.
- 3:25I had a budget and I was considering 993 or 960.
- 3:30for Porsche.
- 3:31I wanted a very analogic car.
- 3:33I want to emulate Fangio feeling.
- 3:35And the reason I bought this car finally was because it's early still.
- 3:39So it's carburetor.
- 3:40There's not injection.
- 3:42And I was not sure because the car is not red, but it is blue, blue, blue metal.
- 3:47It's subtle.
- 3:47That's the reason that nobody wanted, but I think I made the
- 3:50right choice in buying these.
- 3:53So do you like driving it?
- 3:54What's the experience like?
- 3:55It is like working out.
- 3:57It's like going to the gym.
- 3:58I think I lost a kilo every time I drive it in summer, it sucks 20 liters
- 4:03of fuel per a hundred kilometers.
- 4:05And I think like really 10 go to the engine, five go to the air and then
- 4:11five go to me because you really smell fuel when you arrive home, I love it.
- 4:16And honestly, it's full experience, whole sensorial experience.
- 4:20I really, really, really enjoy the car big time.
- 4:23So as you mentioned, the 308 is the jumping off point for the motor chain.
- 4:27So let's talk a little bit more about what the motor chain is.
- 4:30The backstory here is that when you bought the 308, as you said, it leaks fuel,
- 4:35but it has that analog experience and there's probably a little oil in there.
- 4:39And you're not really sure.
- 4:40What the history of the car is.
- 4:42And that's the most important part.
- 4:43When you take ownership as a custodian of a classic car, you want as much
- 4:47information as possible because you don't want to throw good money after bad.
- 4:51And you don't want to start replacing parts that have
- 4:53already been recently replaced.
- 4:54And without those records, it's really hard to tell.
- 4:56So what was it about the 308 that made you go, Hmm.
- 5:00I wish I knew more about this car.
- 5:02In particular, I was lucky because the previous owner was a very good
- 5:06collector and he kept very good records of the work that he did.
- 5:10So the negotiation of the price was very transparent.
- 5:13Thanks to the fact that we knew what had to be done to the car, what
- 5:18there was done to the car before.
- 5:19But it is true that going back a little bit to the car
- 5:22had a gap between 77 and 85.
- 5:25Okay.
- 5:25The first carbon copy invoice I have from the car is from 1985,
- 5:31which by the way, I found the owner back in the U S of that car.
- 5:35He's helping me to build the story back of that car.
- 5:39But the most important is when I bought the car, I took all the
- 5:42paperwork with me, and then I felt the responsibility of keeping track of it.
- 5:47We, as an owners of cars, we do have a responsibility of documenting the car.
- 5:53And this is something that not everyone feels.
- 5:56That's why also one part of the Motochain is educating the community about the
- 6:00importance of documenting the car.
- 6:02This is fundamental.
- 6:03And what's funny about that is it parallels computer science as we have
- 6:07evolved in writing programming languages.
- 6:10What do we always tell developers?
- 6:11Document, document, document.
- 6:13Best practice.
- 6:14Exactly.
- 6:15As code changes hands, somebody else needs to pick up where you left off.
- 6:18And cars are very similar in that way.
- 6:20It's ironic that you're bringing these two worlds together.
- 6:23So let's talk a little bit more about how the motor chain
- 6:25works and how you developed it.
- 6:27At the beginning, it was a little bit like a paperless project.
- 6:30Like, Oh, I don't, I don't like paper.
- 6:32Paper get lost, so let's do something that you can accumulate
- 6:35all the paper in electronic format.
- 6:37But then I went a little bit further.
- 6:39I was familiar with blockchain technology, and then I'm also familiar
- 6:43with putting together business models using technology, and I further
- 6:47developed that and I put together the business model for the MotoChain.
- 6:50So with the MotoChain, what you do is you put the car in the middle of an ecosystem.
- 6:55Which is the classic car ecosystem.
- 6:57You put an asset in the middle of the ecosystem.
- 6:59Obviously that the first person who has to jump into the motor chain is the owner.
- 7:03The owner will have to register the car in the motor chain.
- 7:06You create a digital twin of the car with the registration
- 7:10process, chassis number, et cetera.
- 7:12And then the owner has the possibility of taking all the paperwork.
- 7:16From the past and put it on the motor chain in a timeline format.
- 7:20The most important thing of the motor chain is that you, as an owner, you
- 7:24can open the car to third parties.
- 7:26So you take the car to your shop, to your mechanic, and then
- 7:30the mechanic can participate.
- 7:32into your car's history.
- 7:34So they can input all the maintenance, all the work, all the restoration.
- 7:39They can document the work with photos.
- 7:41They can upload the invoices with photos, with PDF.
- 7:44And this input of any third party will be electronically
- 7:48signed off in the motochain.
- 7:50And because we use blockchain technology and a little bit of
- 7:53governance, which is the validation.
- 7:55Of the identity of every user in the motor chain, the input in the car history
- 8:00done by third parties is irrefutable and nobody can dispute in the future
- 8:05that this person did the job in the car.
- 8:07So you kind of fake it.
- 8:09That's the fundamental, let's say, functionality of the motor chain.
- 8:12I really like some of these features.
- 8:14One of them that sticks out to me and Julio, if you don't mind me adding a
- 8:17request for engineering here in RFE.
- 8:20Go ahead.
- 8:20The notebook part is fascinating.
- 8:23But I'd love to take it to the next level because there is the preservation
- 8:26part of classic car collecting, but there's also that resto mod part where
- 8:31you have a car that, you know, you're trying to do something different
- 8:33with, or you're building a show car.
- 8:35There's a lot of custom builds in the United States.
- 8:37It would be fun to expand upon that notebook and not just be.
- 8:41A to do list, but a mod list and to be able to write notes.
- 8:44And this is how we board over the engine.
- 8:46And this is how we rewired the fuel pump.
- 8:48And you know, this is where the trick switches to start the car, because
- 8:52some of these custom builds, when they change hands, you start scratching your
- 8:56head going, well, what did they do?
- 8:57Why is it like this?
- 8:58Why did they wire it like that?
- 9:00It'd be nice to have those builders notes in there where
- 9:02you can go back and go, Oh, okay.
- 9:04That makes more sense.
- 9:05And now I can trace back the history of that custom part of the build itself.
- 9:10Well, I have good news Eric, you can do that already.
- 9:13Oh, that's awesome.
- 9:14Yeah.
- 9:14Because you put an event in the timeline, we have a huge inventory
- 9:18of things that you can put there.
- 9:20And when you are building a restomode, you should document that.
- 9:24Like you start in January, 2024.
- 9:26Okay.
- 9:26We'll start with the engine and you can start documenting
- 9:30what you do with the engine.
- 9:31You take the engine out, you put the engine apart, and then I'm going to put
- 9:34it with these pistons, new bore, whatever.
- 9:38You should document all of that in the timeline of the car.
- 9:42Absolutely.
- 9:43It's available.
- 9:44You can do it and you should do it.
- 9:46Exactly the way you describe it should be part of the car history.
- 9:50No question.
- 9:51Can you also add where you purchased the parts from in case
- 9:53you need to order another one?
- 9:55You have to.
- 9:55I mean, so how to document something.
- 9:58So my recommendation is that at the moment that the car has a failure, for example,
- 10:02it broke, something broke, you start documenting straightforward that day.
- 10:06The mileage the car had, you make a photo of the odometer.
- 10:09You make a photo of whatever the mess is, all the oil leaking,
- 10:12whatever, you make a photo.
- 10:14And then you buy the spare part.
- 10:16You have the invoice of the spare part.
- 10:17It has to be part of the documentation.
- 10:19Then you take it to the shop and the shop will put the things
- 10:22apart and discover new things.
- 10:24You make a photo of whatever you discover.
- 10:26And then you make a photo of the after, when everything is clean and nice.
- 10:30You make a photo of that.
- 10:31And finally, the invoice.
- 10:32the date of the work and the mileage and that's it.
- 10:36So don't wait to document after the job is done because you
- 10:40will forget a lot of details.
- 10:43Start documenting when the thing happen.
- 10:45The Motochain you can work in draft mode so you can immediately lock something in
- 10:49the timeline and you can build up, you know, that event and then when everything
- 10:54is closed, it's done, it's fixed.
- 10:55The rest of the mode is Phoenix, then you just close everything, you remove
- 10:59the draft mode, and then you stamp it in the timeline, and that's forever.
- 11:02So the timeline part of this makes sense, right?
- 11:04You're building a chronology of the vehicle.
- 11:06But for our listeners that may not be familiar with blockchain technology,
- 11:10can you boil it down and explain how that works, and how it relates to
- 11:14the timeline that you're building?
- 11:15I think we're all familiar with the concept of database.
- 11:18So database, you accumulate information and you have it information somewhere.
- 11:22And then the information belongs to whoever owns the database.
- 11:25That's not the case of the Motochain.
- 11:27It's a distributed database.
- 11:29The timeline is just the format that we propose to represent
- 11:33the history of the car.
- 11:34I think it's very user friendly to have the timeline of your car
- 11:38history in a way to represent what happened to the car in the past.
- 11:42The features of the blockchain, so why we use it, as I mentioned.
- 11:46We make the history irrefutable, the inputs of third parties, but also
- 11:50you can modify any input in the car.
- 11:53When you transfer the car to the next owner, the next owner cannot
- 11:56modify anything in the timeline.
- 11:58And that mitigates the risk of someone telling lies about the car.
- 12:03So you can modify the past of the car.
- 12:05And the last thing we use blockchain is because the transfer of the asset.
- 12:09So we control the property of the car.
- 12:12So when you sell the car, you can transfer.
- 12:14The car and all the documentation to the next owner.
- 12:16And this is controlled by blockchain technology, which is
- 12:19fundamentally the property transfer.
- 12:21The timeline and blockchain technology that you're using, as you said, the
- 12:25history of the car becomes locked, but you also proposed a use case,
- 12:30which is contradictory to that in the sense that you have a hole in your
- 12:33history for the 308 between 77 and 85.
- 12:36So if you can't change the history, how are you able to modify missing
- 12:40records or add pieces where there are gaps in the timeline?
- 12:43No, you can.
- 12:44I mean, if I find something between 77 and 85, I can create an event and
- 12:50I'll say, Oh, I found a new owner and I have the evidence, very important.
- 12:53I have a document telling me that some person owned this car or some
- 12:58shop maintained this car in seventies.
- 13:00And I can do that.
- 13:01What you cannot do is modify an input in the timeline that.
- 13:06But you can put pieces in between if there's say you found another
- 13:09receipt or something like that.
- 13:11So this is great.
- 13:13That adds a layer, not only of security of chronology, but also accountability, which
- 13:20is really important with a collector car.
- 13:22Who has been touching it?
- 13:23Who's been responsible with it?
- 13:25Maybe there's some parts that are missing.
- 13:26You can go back to that mechanic or that person and say,
- 13:29Hey, is there a box of 308s?
- 13:31Stuff laying around that we forgot when the other gentleman or lady sold the car.
- 13:35Which also brings up an interesting point.
- 13:37You talk about the transfer of ownership.
- 13:39Is it possible to sell a vehicle through the motor chain?
- 13:42I didn't want the motor chain to be a marketplace.
- 13:45Cause there are many, there are very good, there are good, there are bad.
- 13:48There are online auctions.
- 13:49There are traditional marketplace, but if you are selling your car
- 13:54and you want to have transparent and honest conversation with.
- 13:59the final buyer or the two or three final buyers, you would like the buyer
- 14:04or as a buyer, I would like to understand better what the history of the car is.
- 14:08And this is when the motor chain enters into the discussion.
- 14:12As an owner, you can open the car to the buyer and the buyer in remote,
- 14:17obviously, will have time to take a look to the car history from the sofa
- 14:23in his living room with a glass of wine understanding what happened to the car.
- 14:28You cannot sell a car but it will participate into the buy and sell process.
- 14:34And then when you sell the car, you can transfer that to the next one.
- 14:37And then there's the concept of classic car auctions, ranging from
- 14:42your local auction to the Meecums and the Barrett Jacksons, all the
- 14:46way up through the Pebble Beach Concours and everything in between.
- 14:49So in that instance, using your technology, have you created an
- 14:53API where you can open that up to, let's say, a Mecham to go in and
- 14:58pull the provenance of the vehicle?
- 15:00How does that work in an auction situation where there might be a couple hundred
- 15:03people trying to look at the back history of the vehicle before they purchase it?
- 15:08Is there an option for that in the motor chain?
- 15:10There is an option for that as soon as, uh, all an auction company house
- 15:15like to take the next step in their value proposition for the clients.
- 15:19We can easily build an API and connect with these platforms.
- 15:22Not a problem.
- 15:23Are you working to partner with any auction houses now?
- 15:27We are having discussion with several parties.
- 15:29Which I cannot disclose as you can imagine.
- 15:32Okay.
- 15:32I will be more than happy to do so soon.
- 15:35They are all in houses.
- 15:36There are different kinds of parties.
- 15:38We like to make them as a step in maturity and value proposition for the clients.
- 15:42Yes.
- 15:42So over the years, there's been other tools, proposed ideas.
- 15:47Even rough application development that's been put together in the similar
- 15:52vein of the motor chain, but they never reached maturity like you did.
- 15:55But I've heard from some people that there's a reluctance to
- 15:59put data in a system like this.
- 16:00Because oftentimes the chassis number or the VIN, the vehicle identification
- 16:04number partnered with this record information or these receipts, which
- 16:08could have partial credit card numbers, addresses, names, things like that.
- 16:11Now we reach a realm of what we call PII or personally identifiable information.
- 16:17How is the motor chain handling PII sensitive data?
- 16:21And now with new regulatory compliances in play like GDPR and others, how do
- 16:25you deal with the destruction of data and the dissemination of information?
- 16:29First of all, the motor chain is 100 percent private.
- 16:32There is no website.
- 16:34Where you can browse for cars, the car and the information of the car
- 16:38belongs to the owner is only up to the owner to open the car to someone else.
- 16:43The sharing process starts with the owner and is in one direction
- 16:46only, and it's always one one.
- 16:48So you always know who you are sharing the information with.
- 16:51So there is no broadcasting of information.
- 16:54ever.
- 16:55Then as a data processor, which is our role here, we used best
- 17:00practices in development and best practices in hosting to avoid or
- 17:05to mitigate as much as possible the always inherent risk of managing
- 17:09electronic information in the internet.
- 17:11But we do not share the information with third parties.
- 17:15We do not have publicity in our platform.
- 17:18And of course we do not trade.
- 17:19With the collector's information or the cost information,
- 17:23that's not our business model.
- 17:25We are not a social media and we are not a marketplace.
- 17:29And therefore is the reason that the platform is a paid platform.
- 17:33It's not for free.
- 17:34When we dig a little deeper and we talk about the receipt process and
- 17:38having those added to the timeline.
- 17:40Not to expose exactly how it works under the hood, but let
- 17:43me throw a scenario out here.
- 17:44I take a receipt, maybe I use my mobile device or I'm on my desktop and I want
- 17:49to basically scan it into the system.
- 17:51Is that being stored as an image?
- 17:53A PDF?
- 17:54Is it being converted by OCR?
- 17:55OCR being Optical Character Recognition.
- 17:58And the reason I ask that is Is there an opportunity for an owner or a user
- 18:02to obfuscate personally identifiable information, like their name or their
- 18:06address or other billing information when the receipts are stored in the system?
- 18:11What the system will do is it will store an image in case you are making a photo
- 18:15with your mobile phone, or in case you are using your, uh, drive to upload
- 18:19information or a PDF, if you choose to upload a PDF, which it happens in
- 18:23the case of invoices from the garage, there's no OCR, we don't use OCR.
- 18:27If the owner feels like they want to obfuscate the
- 18:30information, they can do that.
- 18:31Obviously with GDPR, if I decide I sell the car and I don't transfer the records
- 18:36to somebody else, or I want to purge the records from the system, they are
- 18:39completely deleted by rule and regulation.
- 18:41Of course, if we receive the request to either list the information
- 18:46that we have of a certain user or delete, we will delete, of course.
- 18:50In the process of developing this whole portfolio, there's
- 18:54a validation aspect of it too.
- 18:56So now there's another layer of personally identifiable information.
- 18:59You're adding in an identification like a driver's license.
- 19:03Why?
- 19:04We need that to secure the irrefutability of the information.
- 19:10I think we mentioned before the accountability.
- 19:13When you ask someone to participate in your car's documentation, you as
- 19:18an owner, as a car collector, you will show two persons with reputation.
- 19:22You will like your restorer or your very respected and reputed
- 19:27shop to document their work.
- 19:29And of course we want that person when documenting the car is
- 19:32putting his reputation at stake.
- 19:35And you as a collector, you want that because it's not only the collector saying
- 19:38my car is A, B, C, it's good, it's bad.
- 19:41It's another party saying that this car is good or bad, or I have done this job.
- 19:47The trust on your car documentation increases with more people
- 19:52participating in your car history.
- 19:54The more people you have.
- 19:55Participating in your car history, the higher the trust and the higher
- 19:59the value of your car will be.
- 20:01Obviously, if we had allowed anyone to do so with any identity
- 20:06validation, it would have zero value when we're doing the MotoChamp.
- 20:10So I want the MotoChamp to be a very serious platform.
- 20:13So therefore I ask the participants to validate their
- 20:16identity for accountability.
- 20:18Does that also extend to the shops that are doing the work?
- 20:21Yes.
- 20:22Absolutely.
- 20:22There are some shops that maybe they were around for four decades
- 20:25and they're not here anymore.
- 20:26So now you almost have to build a history and a credibility on what they were
- 20:30doing with respect to maybe the Ferrari community or the Porsche community
- 20:33and all the cars that they worked on.
- 20:35If the garages appear, you have an invoice.
- 20:37From 50 years ago, we cannot ask this garage to validate their identity.
- 20:42I mean, in this case, the owner will upload the invoice and that's it.
- 20:45But from this point on, there is no excuse to have the validation and
- 20:50the electronic certification of the new participants in your car history.
- 20:55You mentioned earlier.
- 20:56A paid service.
- 20:57So let's talk about the pricing model.
- 20:59Is it a subscription?
- 21:00Is it a one time fee?
- 21:02The different versions of the motor chain?
- 21:03If it's a tiered system, is it a per seat?
- 21:06And I mean that by per driver's seat.
- 21:08Are you paying per car?
- 21:09Is it per owner?
- 21:11How does the pricing model work for the motor chain?
- 21:13So it's very simple.
- 21:14It's a subscription and you will pay 50 Per car per year, and that will give
- 21:20you access to all the features of the motor chain with a limited documentation
- 21:25for the car and or the shops is free so they can add whatever they want for
- 21:30free is just the owner needs to have the car subscribed in the platform.
- 21:34There is another service that we offer currently only in in Switzerland, which is
- 21:39professional documentation service because we discovered that there are owners.
- 21:44And we have clients with a lot of cars and they do not have time to
- 21:49take all the existing paperwork and put it on the motor chain.
- 21:52And we say, no worries, we do it for you.
- 21:55And we do where the cars are.
- 21:58And then we register the car, just his number, et cetera.
- 22:01And we take all the paperwork.
- 22:03We scan it professionally.
- 22:05And we indexed all that information into the motor chain.
- 22:08And from that point on is the responsibility of the owner or the
- 22:13owner's shops restore us to keep documenting the car Are you storing
- 22:17those physical files for them as well or they get returned to the owner?
- 22:21We do not neither.
- 22:23I allow the owners to post me the documentation.
- 22:26We go where the documentation is Cause you know, the paperwork is very
- 22:30valuable, so I don't want the paper to be flying around in any case.
- 22:34Is it all mobile based or is there a web equivalent?
- 22:37Both.
- 22:38The very first version was iOS, which is available in the Apple store.
- 22:43And instead of doing Android version, we decided to do web sensitive version,
- 22:48which you can use it from your laptop.
- 22:50So it's a web version, any device, mobile device with web brochure,
- 22:54we'll be able to use it with the same functionalities that we have in the iOS.
- 22:58You talked about transfer of ownership, especially within the app owner to owner.
- 23:02How does that work?
- 23:03I've been paying for my subscription for whatever car I have, and
- 23:07I sell it to somebody and I transfer all my records over.
- 23:10Suddenly they get a bill for 50 bucks for that new car, or is, does the
- 23:14subscription have to run out and then it's co termed into the renewal process?
- 23:18So when you transfer the car, your renewal as an owner will
- 23:21be automatically canceled.
- 23:23So you will not get further invoices for that car.
- 23:26And the next owner, at the moment that he will receive the car and
- 23:30the car documentation with no cost.
- 23:33But at the moment that he or she wants to continue the documentation, then the
- 23:37subscription will pop up for him or her.
- 23:40Is there a period of time That a car and its documentation can stay in limbo.
- 23:45Say I sell you my car.
- 23:47I say, okay, this car is sold.
- 23:48It no longer belongs to me.
- 23:50It's going to go to Julio and you don't accept it for a while.
- 23:53Maybe you're busy.
- 23:54You forgot about it.
- 23:55Is there a point where those records are deleted or they just permanently
- 23:58stay in limbo until you accept final ownership of the documents?
- 24:02So we'll keep sending reminders.
- 24:04to the seller and we will communicate to the buyer that the request is done
- 24:09is between them to accept and or get the request but if the buyer has executed the
- 24:14request and the seller is not sending the card we will send in automatic reminders
- 24:19in the case this is not happening the buyer will contact us and we will contact
- 24:23the seller about what the problem is could be a technical issue normally or this
- 24:28is something that you don't do every day So maybe they don't know how to do it.
- 24:32They get lost with the process, which is very simple.
- 24:34I mean, that should not be the case.
- 24:35And then normally the seller then send the car with no problem.
- 24:39It actually, it takes three clicks to transfer a car.
- 24:42It's no more than that.
- 24:44It happened and maybe someone does not want to receive the car in the
- 24:47moto chain because doesn't like it.
- 24:50And then the seller will communicate that to us and we will store the car.
- 24:54We have a special account, which is the storage.
- 24:57That's especially important, too, when you're thinking about
- 24:59maybe a state planning, where you have a large collection and the
- 25:02owner or the curator passes away.
- 25:04What do you do with those records?
- 25:06There's a provenance there.
- 25:07Nobody wants to start this process over again.
- 25:09Purging the information is one thing, but it's that lost in limbo situation
- 25:14where what do you do with that car?
- 25:15And I'm glad to see that you guys have taken the time and foresight
- 25:18to say, we need to hold this.
- 25:20We don't want to recreate the wheel every time a car transfers around.
- 25:24Thank you.
- 25:24Exactly.
- 25:25Exactly.
- 25:25I mean, our mission is to preserve the car history and avoid gaps.
- 25:28So obviously, I mean, we do not believe that information
- 25:31unless the owner asks for it.
- 25:33We spoke about that GDPR wise, the car will remain in the storage.
- 25:36And hopefully crossing fingers that in the future, maybe another owner
- 25:41will call us and say, by the way, is there a chance that this car was in
- 25:44the motor shape and we'll look for it.
- 25:46Obviously the owner will have to show evidence of ownership.
- 25:50There is a governance.
- 25:52They're not only technology and if we agree that effectively he or she is
- 25:57the new owner, then we will move the car to him or her expanding on that.
- 26:01There is a concept of community on the motor chain.
- 26:03How does that work?
- 26:04Is it open?
- 26:05Is it by invite?
- 26:06What kind of information is shared in the community portion of the TMC?
- 26:10It is not by invitation.
- 26:12So everyone who owns a car and believes that the car deserve documentation,
- 26:17which in my opinion, Any car deserves documentation is open to register to the
- 26:22car and start documenting the car the community right now We have growing a
- 26:27social media channel which communicate developments of the platform We are very
- 26:31strong in linkedin as well So you can follow me in linkedin which are sharing
- 26:35information of our progress and I have a regular newsletter Where we inform about
- 26:40changes in the platform upcoming events, etc Like every good software package,
- 26:46you have a roadmap and a release cycle.
- 26:49So what's next for the motor chain plans to expand any new features,
- 26:53some spoilers you can give us.
- 26:54Probably the first is sync a little bit, the iOS version with the web
- 26:58version in the iOS version, we, uh, fulfill these with not only the
- 27:03documentation of the car, but you have alarms, you have maintenance
- 27:06alarms, you have also what we call.
- 27:09Notebooks, which is a kind of electronic post its where you
- 27:12can list the to dos with the car.
- 27:15It's not really documentation, but you know, it's important to have the list
- 27:19of what you have to do with the car.
- 27:21So probably the next version will sync all these functionalities
- 27:24with the web version.
- 27:25The web version doesn't have this.
- 27:26It has only the documentation part, the history.
- 27:30A lot of users are asking me the possibility to print out In a
- 27:35PDF, a summary of the car, they still like to have a paper that
- 27:40could be probably next future.
- 27:41Something which is already available is the history preserve sticker.
- 27:46The owners, they do have the possibility of asking us for this sticker.
- 27:50This is unique per car and it comes with different colors in
- 27:54blue, silver or gold according to how good your documentation is.
- 27:59And then we will go through documentation and we will do a rating.
- 28:03Well, you know, we have the best documented car in the world.
- 28:06We will use the same methodology to rate the documentation of the car.
- 28:09And we will listen to this very special high quality sticker that our owners,
- 28:14they have it in the windshield of the car.
- 28:16And you can show that not only the car is in good condition, but you
- 28:20also look after the documentation and maybe you are a gold, a history
- 28:24preserved gold ring by the motor ship.
- 28:27So you're speaking my language, Julio.
- 28:28This is awesome.
- 28:29And you know what I can see?
- 28:30At least one convinced.
- 28:31I have one believer.
- 28:33Well, I can see it applying to even your passenger vehicles too, right?
- 28:37Because maybe they're not as prestigious as a classic car, but
- 28:40they have their own provenance.
- 28:41And when you go to go sell your Alpha 147 to somebody else and
- 28:45they go, well, this is a great car.
- 28:47It is what it is.
- 28:48It's a hot hatch, but it's nice to have that records that go with it.
- 28:51Right?
- 28:51So this is really awesome to be able to do this for pretty much
- 28:54any vehicle that exists out there.
- 28:55If you love the car, it should be in the motor chain.
- 28:58That's my motto.
- 28:59With that, we've reached the part of the episode where I like to ask our
- 29:02guests any shout outs, promotions, or anything else you'd like to share
- 29:05that we haven't covered thus far.
