- 0:06Speaker 1: Bob Joyce Debfisk have all the action beginning at twelve
- 0:10Speaker 1: thirty here along the Yukon Sports Network, the Varsity Network App,
- 0:14Speaker 1: and the Varsitynetwork dot Com. We continue with Dan Hurley.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Last time Huskies were in gamble, they had a tough
- 0:21Speaker 1: one with Providence. That thing got down to the final
- 0:24Speaker 1: seconds because it just dragged out at the free throw
- 0:27Speaker 1: line and all that stuff. But getting back home and
- 0:29Speaker 1: getting back in your home gym, Dan, You've always spoken
- 0:33Speaker 1: highly about what kind of a home court advantage that is.
- 0:38Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, you know, playing you know at home.
- 0:42Speaker 3: We obviously we have a unique arrangement unlike any other
- 0:48Speaker 3: team in college basketball or college sports. You know, with
- 0:53Speaker 3: the split between the Excel Center and gamble. You know,
- 0:58Speaker 3: no one else is no one else is doing that.
- 1:01Speaker 3: Villanova does a little bit of it, but no one
- 1:04Speaker 3: else is doing it. Seton Hall does a minuscule level,
- 1:08Speaker 3: you know, but no one else is doing it.
- 1:10Speaker 2: Where you basically, you know, you have two home courts.
- 1:14Speaker 3: So yeah, when they're when you know, when they're both
- 1:17Speaker 3: Rocking and obviously Campbell. You know, the student element helps
- 1:22Speaker 3: a great deal, and I think with our home crowds
- 1:25Speaker 3: in general this year, I think, you know, maybe in
- 1:28Speaker 3: the past two years minus January a couple of years
- 1:31Speaker 3: ago in twenty three, our fans have been able to
- 1:36Speaker 3: come to games and see fantastic shows of displays of basketball.
- 1:41Speaker 3: They've been able to just kind of come to a
- 1:44Speaker 3: game which has turned into a celebration of of dominant
- 1:48Speaker 3: basketball where we've just blown people away at home and
- 1:53Speaker 3: you know, we're we're We're not, That's not who we are.
- 1:57Speaker 3: This year, especially with Liam out, we need our home
- 2:01Speaker 3: crowd to be on fire from the start, to impact
- 2:06Speaker 3: the opponent negatively the entire game and to try to
- 2:10Speaker 3: lift us up the entire game. You know, they have
- 2:16Speaker 3: a different role for us. I think, you know this
- 2:19Speaker 3: year in particular, whereas.
- 2:22Speaker 2: You know, we just need them.
- 2:23Speaker 3: We need them engaged in the game from the start,
- 2:28Speaker 3: you know, not kind of waiting for us to go
- 2:31Speaker 3: on eighteen to run and blow the game open, but
- 2:36Speaker 3: you know, just to help us win games. Is it's
- 2:42Speaker 3: a different team and we need our crowd to be
- 2:46Speaker 3: dialed in from the start.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Yeah, they got up on their feet in the Providence
- 2:51Speaker 1: game when it really mattered. I mean, team trailed seven
- 2:53Speaker 1: and a half, got down and I think double figures.
- 2:57Speaker 1: I can't remember the exact numbers, but it was uncomfortable,
- 3:01Speaker 1: or it could have been, but the crowd sensing that,
- 3:03Speaker 1: you know, there was a need there, there was going
- 3:05Speaker 1: to be a turning point or had to be, and
- 3:07Speaker 1: they were able to get behind the team. And I
- 3:10Speaker 1: thought it mattered against Providence, yet.
- 3:13Speaker 3: Matters, and every possession it matters with this team, I think,
- 3:18Speaker 3: you know, having you know, from the anthem all the
- 3:21Speaker 3: way through to the end of the game, you know,
- 3:24Speaker 3: being loud when the other team is on offense and
- 3:26Speaker 3: shooting free throws, especially in the second half or especially
- 3:31Speaker 3: in one on one situations.
- 3:33Speaker 2: And you know, I think obviously you know, the.
- 3:39Speaker 3: Every basket, every stop, every rebound for this team is critical.
- 3:45Speaker 2: It's more of reality of what most teams need. Uh.
- 3:49Speaker 3: You know, these last couple of years have been, you know,
- 3:52Speaker 3: have been not realistic relative to just a level that
- 3:58Speaker 3: we've blown dominated teams, especially at home, but across the board.
- 4:04Speaker 3: So playing at Gamble is a major advantage for us.
- 4:08Speaker 3: Playing at the Excel Centers of major advantage for us,
- 4:12Speaker 3: and we need like those environments to be absolutely as
- 4:17Speaker 3: awesome as they can be for this team because this
- 4:19Speaker 3: team needs that competitive advantage. Yeah, whereas last year's team
- 4:24Speaker 3: the year before minus January, you know, we would just
- 4:28Speaker 3: those teams would just get rolling and it would turn
- 4:30Speaker 3: into a celebration.
- 4:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:33Speaker 1: I mean, I think last year he had thirty plus
- 4:36Speaker 1: runs of ten ozho at least, I mean crazy numbers obviously.
- 4:40Speaker 1: And then the other number I saw, which is amazing
- 4:42Speaker 1: to me. You had one two possession game or something
- 4:47Speaker 1: like that. The Villanova game that the Huskies won last
- 4:49Speaker 1: year in Philadelphia was ended up being a one point game,
- 4:52Speaker 1: but at three pointer winning at the buzzer for Villanova
- 4:55Speaker 1: didn't matter. You come was gonna win. But my point
- 4:57Speaker 1: is this, all those big wins in the last couple
- 5:00Speaker 1: of years, this is different. As you say, you've got
- 5:02Speaker 1: eight games what have been basically two possession up to
- 5:06Speaker 1: five point or less game, maybe six, anything could happen.
- 5:10Speaker 1: You won five of those after Maui dropping two early.
- 5:14Speaker 1: You won five in a row before the Villanova game.
- 5:17Speaker 1: I guess the question here is can that help you
- 5:20Speaker 1: going forward? Especially doing it without McNeely available, you know,
- 5:24Speaker 1: finding ways to win a close game, whether it's home
- 5:27Speaker 1: or away. Uh, that's got to help this team, I
- 5:30Speaker 1: would think in the long run.
- 5:32Speaker 3: I just think being in in a lot of you know,
- 5:35Speaker 3: close games, it's just you get accustomed to, you know,
- 5:39Speaker 3: to that type of press, you know, to the pressure
- 5:41Speaker 3: and having to execute offense or get stops and just
- 5:46Speaker 3: get uncomfortable, you know, being being you know, experiencing you
- 5:50Speaker 3: know what that feels like.
- 5:53Speaker 2: And having to believe and function under pressure. Uh.
- 5:57Speaker 3: You know, we've you know, we got the Providence to
- 6:00Speaker 3: twelve on the aid and Mahiney three, and then down
- 6:04Speaker 3: the stretch of that game, we made so many mistakes
- 6:08Speaker 3: that have turned into whatever we ended up winning by
- 6:12Speaker 3: four or three or whatever the final score was. Yeah,
- 6:15Speaker 3: that was a game that if we execute defensively and
- 6:19Speaker 3: offensively better as bad as we were in the first
- 6:22Speaker 3: half in the beginning of the second half, that was
- 6:24Speaker 3: a game we should have won by twelve to fourteen.
- 6:27Speaker 3: The Georgetown game was a game that we should have
- 6:29Speaker 3: won by sixteen to eighteen points. Obviously, we you know,
- 6:35Speaker 3: we we played Texas on the road and showed you know,
- 6:39Speaker 3: separation ability there so obviously we got to get Liam back,
- 6:44Speaker 3: and we've got to be able to play a full
- 6:47Speaker 3: forty minute game.
- 6:48Speaker 1: All right. We'll talk about Liam McNeely and the Husky's
- 6:52Speaker 1: upcoming game with Creighton when we continue here with Dan
- 6:55Speaker 1: Hurley on the Yukon Men's Basketball Coaches Show on lear Field.
