Latest / Rugby Rivals - Sir John Kirwan & Victor Matfield / Did Scotland Just Expose The Springboks?! Will Jordan Makes History!
Transcript
- 0:00I mean, I couldn't believe it. He puts Quinn Horn at 10, takes Andre off. It's like, what the hell are you doing? I thought it was more mental, Victor. Like, the team seems to have just switched off. Do you think Scotland is probably the third best team in the world? Victor, no. Has Russell brainwashed you? Scotland are not the third best side in the world. They were average, mate. Your team was average. They played average.
- 0:24Can we talk about the yellow cards? How do New Zealand get away with stuff? Rubenloff punches the ball out of the hands of another player. Like it was not a purposeful, it was not. He knocked it out of his hand. The guy would have gone to the score. The guy knocked it on. Unfortunately, I think the power and the quality of the French team was just too much for Australia. The Australian reserves came on and let their side down because they just didn't make any impact. I've said it. I think there's only three teams that can win the next World Cup. South Africa, All Blacks or France.
- 0:54Scotland, both. Exactly. Right, welcome to Rugby Rivals for another week. And Victor, a bit closer than we thought that South Africa-Scotland game. Yeah, I think like we've seen with Rusty, a lot of changes to the team. Things didn't go as planned, especially I think on defence. They won't be very happy with...
- 1:22the defensive effort, but still, I mean, make 10 changes, play against a very good Scotland team, have an off day. To beat them by 14 points is still not too bad. In the old days, we would have taken that. But yes, I think just the defensive effort, they cut us with the inside balls quite a bit. So something to work on.
- 1:49Yeah, I mean, I thought at 14-all when Scotland sort of blew that try, Victor, you know, it was time for Scotland to sort of build the pressure. I thought it was more mental, Victor, to be fair. Like, the team seems to have just switched off. Like, you know, in the second half when you think, oh, they've got this tied up. And then there was that...
- 2:1215 minutes where Scotland just, like, it just seemed like the Springboks thought they'd won and just switched off defensively. I don't know if it was a technical thing. I think it was more a mental thing, you know. But once again, Scotland, you know, I think good teams play badly and win, you know. And I don't think... I don't think...
- 2:33I think Rossi will go away and go, well, okay, I need to maybe think about how I'm doing the changes and maybe do less changes to keep a bit of, you know, to keep a bit of fluidity into the selection and that sort of stuff. But, you know. I don't agree. I mean, if you listen to Rossi afterwards, he was, he says he thinks Scotland is probably the third best team in the world. And
- 3:00Yes, there were mistakes. I mean, Scotland beat France last year. They went over. They beat Argentina in Argentina. They came very close beating you guys at the end of the year. So it's a quality side. And I mean, for these guys to go out there with 10 changes, I mean, if you just mention the names that hasn't played, Oxman Chair, Malcolm Marks, Iben Ezeved, Siakulisi, Cheslin, Sasha didn't play, Damien Dalendek.
- 3:27I mean, those are big names in the Springbok team. And I mean, for this younger team, yes, he was still some experience, to go out and to feel that pressure. And that's the thing that Rossi likes to push. There's pressure. I mean, I couldn't believe it. He puts Quinn Horn at 10, takes Andre off,
- 3:50It's like, what the hell are you doing? Then we get an injury, Andre is back on, but he doesn't put him on 10, keep Damien at 12, Quinn at 15, where he normally plays. He keeps Quinn at 10, puts Andre at 12, moves Damien to 15. So, you know, he likes to put him under pressure, but…
- 4:08Victor, no. Has Rusty brainwashed you? Scotland are not the third best side in the world. You are so Springbok focused. They were average, mate. Your team was average. They played average. Scotland were good. They did and still won a quality Scotland team by 14 points.
- 4:27Russie can't come out and say this is the third best side in the world when they perform like that. No way. Because they're not. Like, they are a good side. Don't get me wrong. No disrespect to Scotland. Thought they were outstanding. But they're not the third best side in the world. I won't say third, but they're right up there.
- 4:43You've got everyone in South Africa that hates you now, everyone in Scotland, so that's good. We're just growing that audience. People that don't like you, so that's a good plan. But you've got to sort of say that it's scary the depth that South Africa are building. Whether they're the third best team or the fifth best team, to have the balls to make that many changes
- 5:03in the long run, is going to come to something, you know, depth around the World Cup, et cetera, et cetera. Now it's two versus one, is it? Now it's two versus one. I've never been on your side. Well, you're born in New Zealand. But apart from that, look, I think, you know, we look at these individual performances, but you've also got to look at France. Like, France played jelly bear at fullback. And I think, to get to your point, Ricardo, I think to go to the next World Cup, and I think...
- 5:32In 2011 when we lost Dan Carter, then Cruden, and Beavis then stood up. I think that's what France are doing. For France to play Jelly Bear at fullback and Intermac at 10, and have the performance that they had, I don't disagree. I think what, I'm not saying Russie's wrong or right. What I'm saying is that
- 5:56at some stage, you gotta look at combinations, right? So he has built, South Africa has 35 players now that can play at that level. And I was thinking about it, I was thinking about it the other night. When you go to next year, France and South Africa have to be the favorites because of the depth of their side. Like you look at the Italian side, the poor Italians, you know, my favorite, my second favorite team from an emotional point of view. They've played the same players all season.
- 6:24I mean, Milicello must be absolutely knackered. Like, he's played every game, played incredibly well, and then they've got to face Aussie this week, but they just don't have the turnover. So I think that siding on Victor's side, Riccardo will forgive,
- 6:41because I can't believe that he's brainwashed you as well. But, yeah, they do have 35 sides. But when do you start thinking about, you know, really complete performances versus swapping the team? Can I just clarify, JK, I'm not on Victor's side. I'm just always against you. Yeah, good point. Good point.
- 7:03like all of South Africa and now all of Scotland. I said Scotland were a good side. I just didn't say they were the third best side in the world at the moment. You can't say that. Well, Rusty did, so it must be right. Dr. Rusty, Rusty. Dr. Rusty, yeah. Yeah.
- 7:22What did you think of the French actually, Victor? I mean, you know, they were behind at half-time. And I'm in Sydney and everyone was sort of all excited. Then as the game sort of got through the second half, you could see all the Australians going, oh, here we go again. You know, it's almost like they've resigned to not winning. Yeah, it's unbelievable. I mean, if you look at that first half, I thought the straight were really good. And the work rate on the fence, turning balls over on their own
- 7:52really scrambling hard and working hard. And when they got those turnovers, they had a go as well. Unfortunately, I think the power and the quality of the French team was just too much for Australia. They just don't have those quality players. I mean, if you see Ntemak, Jolibere, when they see opportunity cross kick or they put the ball through, it works for them. And that's what you need in big games against big teams.
- 8:21You need players that got that something special. And at this stage, for me, Australia don't have it. They're a team that really work hard for each other. You can see they're trying. There's something missing. There's magic missing in that Australian team. But the French, I'm with Jay, and I've said it from the start. I think the French will probably be the team to beat at next year's World Cup. I mean, the previous World Cup, they were a young team.
- 8:50But they're building. They've got a lot of depth as well. So, yeah. He's probably... I mean... I've said it. I think there's only three teams that can win the next World Cup. South Africa, All Blacks, or France. Scotland. Scotland's obviously one of them now, Victor. But I think... I say there's three other teams. Look, I think...
- 9:11Australia have a fundamental problem, and we're talking about it. Their bench came on and did not perform. You know, when Big Will's there, I don't know where he is at the moment, not coming back from France or something, you know, the difference. I mean, they beat Aussie. When he's there, he's an enforcer. Their locks are competent, but they don't bring that X factor. I mean, they brought – the French brought an Aussie guy on. What was his name? Stanford or something. Stanford. Yeah, he's like –
- 9:38Yeah, and all he did was carry the ball incredibly hard. When you watch the Australian locks, they don't carry that hard. This kid comes on. He's not the tallest man in the world, but he just gets the ball and just flies into the defensive system. So I think the two problems with Australia at the moment is I agree with Victor, although you can cut that out of this show. I think they don't have...
- 10:02the depth of squad. They don't have a big lot coming on. You know, when you think about South Africa, even New Zealand, you know, the reserves came on the other weekend, made a real impact. The Australian reserves came on and let their side down because they just didn't make any impact. So they've got, they're well coached, they play a nice brand of football, but is it the brand of football that's gonna win them games? I don't know if it is. So, you know, they need to find
- 10:26some more players. They need to make sure that they've got a bench that's coming on, but they need to find some mongrel up front. You know, the French are just, I mean, I don't need to talk about how tough the South Africans run into the line, but that's all the French do. Their big men just know their role, and that's, you know. Even that skinny guy, the new guy that scored the tri-late, can't remember his name either, Viv or something. Excuse me, I don't mean to be rude. Viv, Viv, Viv. Yeah. Yeah.
- 10:56I just put a French accent on Louis. He's not a big man, man, but he was hoeing into stuff, you know? Remind me of Ian Jones. To win a World Cup, you know, they often say that you need seven or eight world-class players in your side. So what are the teams now that you think have those seven or eight world-class players? I'll start with you, Victor. I mentioned them already.
- 11:26I really believe there's only three teams that can win the World Cup, and that's South Africa, France or the All Blacks. I think Ireland can get close, but somehow I don't see them winning three big games in a row. So I think it will be difficult for them. The All Blacks are coming through really nicely at the moment. But I think for South Africa, the big threat is France.
- 11:53I mean, the depth that they've got, the players that they've got, the confidence. If you look at the European competition as well, dominating it with Bordeaux and with Toulouse. So, I think the French just got the players. And I mean, if you name a world team now, there'll probably be 10 South Africans and five Frenchmen in that team. So...
- 12:17No Scotsman. I'm joking. No, there will be quite a few of South Africa, the All Blacks and France. When you think about how Russie has changed the game with his selection philosophy and the stuff that he's been doing, but what it has highlighted, and I think Gautier has come away this season, he's asked all his players to be available, and I think he's asked them to be available now
- 12:45to win the World Cup next year because what he wants to do, like, you don't pay, I mean, you know, Jally Bear last week against the All Blacks just about beat us by himself. He is a world-class player. The following week against Aussie, you put him at fullback. You don't do that without a big picture in mind. And I think he's gone away, Gautier, from the last World Cup and said, look, we rely too much on DuPont. What if he gets injured next time? You know, they've now got a...
- 13:12well, the halfback is world-class. So they now have a complete, I reckon, 30 players. So I agree with Victor. I think I'm really interested to see Ireland play the sweet Victor against New Zealand. I think they have some depth issues and some, you know, when Ireland have a good run, they have this really –
- 13:34confirmed set of rugby players that learn how to play together. And so, you know, I think Ireland will be knocking on that door, really interested to see how they go this week. But I agree. I think you've got to build depth. You've got to build depth in players. And that's where the other sides are missing out. Just talking about depth, Victor, tell me a bit more about the South African halfback. It scored an amazing try. Oh, yeah.
- 13:59Papir, Ambrose. Yes. Yeah, I know. So, I mean, Ambrose was outstanding for the Bulls the whole year in the URC. I think he was man of the match in probably seven of the games that he played at Loftus. Somehow, there's just so many other nines in front of him at the moment. So, everyone has been asking, where's Ambrose? Why haven't they had a chance? But I mean, if you look at the system, Grant Williams is there, Kuyburs Reinhardt is there.
- 14:28There are so many quality 9s at the moment. Glad he got his opportunity. I couldn't believe when Rossi took him and Andre off two minutes into the second half. I actually thought they didn't play too badly. Grant Williams is special. When Grant came on, that speed also scored a great try.
- 14:51difficult for Ambrose at the moment. Victor, do you think that Rossi is putting the team under different pressures every week to practice for the World Cup? Like you say, two minutes into the second half. Is he throwing a bit of a bomb into the camp so that they have to adjust and they have to understand how to deal with a little bit of versary? Because you...
- 15:16You don't normally take your 9 and 10 off, right? With two minutes into a game. No, it's funny. There's certain things that Drassi do that I sometimes actually don't agree with what he's doing. But somehow it works. I mean, I couldn't believe, I mean, Andre was playing one of his best games. I've seen him play it in a long time. He hasn't played a lot for the box. And I mean, he gets pulled.
- 15:41We get an injury. I don't know how Andre got on the field firstly. Me either. I don't know how that works. How does that work? Yeah, rolling subs. He comes back on, doesn't play 10, he goes to 12. Quinn, he's a 15. He plays him 10, Andre 12, and he moves out 12 to 15. I'm like, why don't you just put Quinn at 15 and keep going with 10, 12, Damien and Andre? But, I mean, that's how Rossi looks at it. He probably wanted to open up the game.
- 16:10thought he needs a different style of 10. Then Andre actually played really well at 12 as well. He's playing five-dimensional chess. He's just that much further apart. No one knows what's happening. He's the only one that can play with rolling subs.
- 16:27Yeah, yeah. Well, I think rolling subs is something we need to think about, especially when, you know, teams are slowing the game down. It really annoys me, especially South Africa. Hey, mate, seriously, you got so much hate last week for your negative box kicks and, you know, like the whole of South Africa fight up against you. So don't attack them again.
- 16:51I'm not attacking them. I'm stating something that I think needs to change in the game. I like the idea of rolling subs, especially for the front row. You know, because what I want to see is the last game. I thought last year you said you want people to get tired so there's space. Now you want rolling subs again. I don't understand. Yeah, no. Rolling subs for the front row when they go down when they're tired.
- 17:14Right? That's what I want. Isn't that when you want to attack them? So you want to tire them? They're sitting on the ground giving themselves. So it's an anaerobic game, Victor. So what's happening is when the team gets tired, I mean, there was a rest. I'm not saying it's just South Africa. I mean, there was a break in the Aussie game for about two and a half minutes at one stage for a water break that I didn't understand.
- 17:36So I just want fatigue to come back into our game. When you were saying rolling subs, you mean that they should roll the front rows off the field when they're lying on the ground, just roll them off? Exactly. Exactly. Can we talk about the yellow card? How do New Zealand get away with stuff?
- 17:54Last year, Kirtle Owens almost got an intercept. This week, your guy, Ruben Lov, punches the ball out of the hands of another player and he gets called back onto the field.
- 18:07Yeah, because did you see the replay, Victor? The replay didn't even, like, it was not a purposeful, it was not. He knocked it out of his hand. The guy would have gone to school. The guy knocked it on. The guy knocked it on. No. You're kidding yourself, Victor. Of course, he knocked it out of his hand. He did not, mate. Did you not watch the replay? I did. You're so biased, mate. You're so biased. I can't believe how biased you are. It's incredible. No.
- 18:29It's the first time I've seen that. We were saying a few weeks ago that we don't think that should be a card anyway. No, that I do agree, but then everyone should be treated the same, not just the New Zealanders. It's a really good point being treated the same. As someone that's linked with a Japanese team, Japan having to play a home game,
- 18:53in australia it looks to me you know eddie said this that it was really done so ireland didn't have to travel too far before they came back to new zealand to play at eden park how's that the truth it must be it must be i mean i thought they did it for money victor like the fijians they played at twickenham or whatever for the money i mean they play in front of a few thousand people
- 19:18Yeah, it will be sold out if they play in Japan. It was an innocent question, guys. It was an innocent question. I know I'm annoying you this morning, but it won't. It's difficult for, I mean, it would have been really difficult for Ireland to go to Japan, play in that humidity. And I think Japan would have a really good...
- 19:39opportunity against Ireland and now they need to travel, need to play away. So yeah. That's an absolute, if that's the case, that's an absolute disgrace because one of the hardest places to play is Fiji.
- 19:51So you're saying that Fiji had to go back to England to play England and Japan had to go to Aussie to make it convenient for the top five in the world. That is disgrace. Eddie should be blowing up and that should be like that is wrong in all types of ways. You try and go, you ever played in Fiji, Victor?
- 20:11I've played there once as a youngster, I think 23. It was the beginning of January, played a warm-up game for Super Rugby. I almost got my head taken off as well. We played against the Fijan at 21 side and they just climbed into us. Yeah. You know, it's humid, it's hard to play. So that's really disappointing. I mean, what's going on with that? Then it's not a fair tournament.
- 20:36Yeah, and well, if you look at Ireland, so instead of going to Japan, they've had a good sort of couple of weeks in Australia. And make no mistake about it, they have targeted this game at Eden Park. You know, they want to be the first team to beat the All Blacks at Eden Park for 32 years since you lost it, JK. So, you know, it's... Ireland are in not a bad position going into this test match. Why did you have to drop that, Peter? Yeah.
- 21:06I have to. Every time I mention that, I have to mention that. It brings the facts to the table. I was the last player to lose at Eden Park. Thank you for that, Ricardo. Yeah, I mean, that's the trouble with our game, right? I'll tell you how this would have happened.
- 21:23they would have presented this World Champions League or whatever it's called, Champions Cup, right? Nations Cup. Eh? Nations Cup. Thank you, Riccardo. Nations Cup. And then they would have gone into a side room or gone out for dinner and Ireland would have done a deal and so would have England done a deal, say, oh, we're not going to do this competition unless this happens. That's what would have happened.
- 21:45And so they would have held it to ransom, gone into a room, and then they would have said, oh, we don't have to worry about Fiji or Japan. We won't worry about them, you know. And that's what happens. That's the trouble with our game. Right. So let's go to Ireland. You know, they're feeling good. They've had a couple of wins under their belt. They've had a nice time in Australia, and they're coming to Eden Park. What did you see from the All Blacks, JK, that's going to keep Ireland at bay?
- 22:14I'm starting to see the team play what's in front of them a wee bit, which is so organisation but playing what's in front of them. So I'm starting to see some of the style of rugby that us New Zealanders love to play. I think the line speed defensively, and I'd be interested to get Victor's thoughts, I think we need to work a bit harder on our line speed. I thought at times the line speed...
- 22:38could get better. But I think we're finding the confidence to attack that we've seen in the past. I think there's going to be a real test for us this week. Not that the French weren't. The French were really tough. But I'm starting to really enjoy the style of rugby that this team's trying to play. I think we're getting some depth.
- 22:58You know, it's great to see our locking depth starting to get bigger. I think Cegna starting, coming on early in the second half, is growing our depth, which is what South Africa and France have done. So I think it's a massive test, but I think we'll be too strong for Ireland just because I don't think they have sort of grown their squad like the other sides. What do you think of the All Blacks, Victor?
- 23:28Yeah, I think it's going to be a great game. I think both teams want to play ball in hand. It looks like New Zealand's also starting to play from a little bit deeper in their own half, holding on to the ball. So it's going to be a crack of a game. But I'm with JK here. I don't think Ireland's got the team to go to Auckland and...
- 23:54do something very special and beat the All Blacks at Eden Park. I mean, I don't know why, but New Zealand's just a different team when they play at Eden Park and it's the worst place to play against them. So it will be tough, but I do like what I'm seeing at the moment from the All Blacks. A lot of grunt up front. They've got some special players at the back. And then also, you don't like this word, but they're also starting to build a bomb squad that can come on
- 24:24and make a big difference. I like that front row that comes on in the second half. Strong scrummages, but great ball carriers as well. And even some of the backs. What's the winger that came on this weekend? Just Morby. Morby, really good. I just like him. He's outstanding. You can just see how he understands the game. What a great player.
- 24:46I mean, he's had a fantastic super season, plays fullback, plays wing. But I agree with you, Victor. I think he's one of those guys that when they go up a level, they just get better. And I just think we're getting some really good depth. And I'm like you, Victor. I think...
- 25:08They noticed they named the bench the other day. They didn't call it the bench, they called it Impact. The 15 were named in the Impact. I think Sir Ted and also Steve Hansen, after test matches in their era, they would talk about whether the Impact players came on and did their job.
- 25:32And I think that sort of pressure is really, really important. Like I said about Australia, I don't think their bench came on and made too much of an impact, whereas our guys are coming on and really making a difference. And that's what happens when you get internal competition. I mean, you talk about Sia. Is Sia injured or is he just not playing? But anyway, you can answer that. He's injured. He's injured. Yeah. We have not played Bowden Barrett yet.
- 25:58You know, this is the world's best player twice, right? We haven't played him yet. So I'm expecting him to be in the team in some way this week, you know, either on the bench or starting. So I think that's what's going to happen now. He's going to now start creating some internal competition. And I think that's really healthy. Can you tell me a bit more about
- 26:20why you like Morby. You know, obviously you played on the wing. What is it that you liked about his ability to play wing? I think the thing I like about him is he's got different angles. So when I watch a winger, I see like what their skill set is.
- 26:37And he's got pace, but he's got pace that you think – he's a little bit like Will Jordan. You think, oh, he's not that quick, but then he beats guys. Like, he's deceptive, I guess is the word I'm looking for. I think he's got a really nice – he came on – he ran a really hard angle.
- 26:55amongst the forwards in the second half as well. So I like the way he plays angles. And when you're marking someone, if they hit your inside shoulder, that squares you up a bit. But then he's got the ability to go on the outside. He's also got a nice little subtle kicking game. So he's really the complete. But I think that he's deceptive from a pace point of view is a really interesting one from trying to defend it point of view. So that's why I like him.
- 27:23You mentioned Will Jordan, so he scored a trick and became the highest scoring test tri-scorer of all time for the All Blacks. Just from both of you gentlemen, what are your thoughts on him and what makes him such a special player?
- 27:37I think his timing is incredible. You know, a wing must also finish tries, so he's a great finisher. I think his acceleration off the mark is incredible, and you'll see that get even better. I just think his ability to turn up, like one of his tries was on the other side of the field, so his work rate and his ability to back up and be –
- 28:02When we played, we used to call it get a couple of touches. So he gets a couple of touches, right? He can be in one movement, then you find him on the other movement. So, you know, three things, incredible deceptive speed, timing, vision, and then, you know, that work rate. Just a guy that understands the game. That's what I said. He makes it look easy. You always think, how did he get there? Why is he always at the right place at the right time?
- 28:31He's got the ability to read the game, to feel the game, when to show up, when maybe not to show up. He's a really special player. If I was a coach, I would still pick him at 15, get him more involved. But he can play anywhere in real quality.
- 28:53I think it'll be interesting this week, Victor, to see what the selection committee does with the All Black, whether they actually have a, like, you know, whether they're going to have the courage to change quite a few players. Like you say, play Willett fullback, bring Bowdoin into the environment. It'll be really interesting because one thing you cannot say that Russie doesn't have, and that's courage. But if you're sitting there as a coach and your team's won, it's a really hard decision to make. So I'll be really interested to see the selections this week, Ricardo.
- 29:23And it's interesting, like I know Rossi said this first three games, he said to the players who's going to play in which game, even before they started. I wonder if the All Blacks had the same thing, listen, we're going to give these guys a go, third game, or do they go week by week, see how does it go, do they change, do they keep... So Rossi went out and he said to the players, you're playing in this game, this is your role, this is what's going to happen, and then we're getting ready for the big test matches.
- 29:52Right. Just so you know, Victor, so Will Jordan broke the record for the most test tries, but we're very fortunate to have the greatest All Black try score of all time on this call, and it's not me. JK scored 67 tries for the All Blacks. I did like what Trimby said. You can't take tries to score in the amateur area. It doesn't count.
- 30:17Just for the public there, there's a bit of banter on our internal thing. Yeah, so back in my day, amateur days when we used to get, well, we started on $15 a day, Victor, and then we went up to $55 a day towards the end of my career. But we used to play midweek. So, yeah, I think some of the hardest things for us was playing a test match and then playing, because we only had 26 on tour. And then you play Wednesday. So there was 76 in how many games, J.K.?
- 30:47Pardon? I played 96 games. 96 games. 76 tries and 96.
- 30:5367 tries, I think. It wasn't too bad for an average winger. Yeah, exactly. It wasn't too bad for a slow winger. Yeah, no, I think I don't know why they don't talk about that just because they don't have midweek games anymore. That's why I'm so excited. Jack, I generally think because we don't have midweek games anymore, a lot of people that are around the game,
- 31:17don't understand that part of our history. You know, they go, well, we only play test matches, so that's all that ever happened. But, you know, as you said, you know, sometimes those French selections or, you know, I don't know, Pontypool in the midweek or, you know, they were tough games.
- 31:36Mate, like some of the midweek games in France where you'd play these French selections, man, it was just really, really, really tough. And the pressure on you was doubled. I mean, I remember that game against Randwick that Eddie Jones played in and so did, I think, so did also Chekhov.
- 31:55You know, the All Blacks played in 1988 or something like that. Yeah, yeah. It was just the hardest game we've ever played, you know. They hoed into us. There was about five or six Wallabies in the squad. But you imagine if you're an All Black. I mean, you're famous if you lose those games, right? They still talk about – you go to Pontyprede and they've still got the scoreboard up from when they beat us. You go to Clannetly and they build a museum just to that one day when they beat the All Blacks.
- 32:21Yeah. But maybe with the greatest rivalry starting now, that's something that will pick up again. I mean, there will be games, there will be opportunities. I think people will start talking about those games again. So hopefully that will just bring back the memories. Well, talking of memories, what was your clip drift moment of the week, Victor? And I'm sure that you celebrated the rugby with plenty of clip drifts. So what was your moment of the week? A lot.
- 32:51Yeah, I just think that last try that Jesse Creel scored, Andre, actually, I'm worried that Andre pulled his hamstring. He was down. They strapped it up. I thought you won't be able to run and there gets the ball at 12. Little Grubber, almost exactly the same when they played under 21 and win the under 21 World Cup. Little Grubber threw Jesse picking it up and scoring under the post. So,
- 33:18Actually, for Andre, just to push through with that hamstring and do something special to get that last try. And J.K., your clip drift moment of the week? Yeah, mine was probably Will Jordan's, mate, like scoring three tries. I remember one of the biggest honors of my career was when I got the try scoring record off Stu Wilson. You know, I'd grown up watching Stu Wilson. He was an incredible man. May he rest in peace. He died.
- 33:45last year and he was just this incredible player and I'm sure Will Jordan you know when he surpassed you know Dougie Howlett, Dougie Howlett would have been someone that he was watching as he was growing up so I think to score three tries and then to get the test record although thank you for reminding me Ricardo that I didn't even know I had that record but
- 34:07I think it's a very special moment for a player. And I don't know if you guys watch tennis, but I was watching Sinner. I was watching Sinner play last night against Zeziv. And he pulled out of, Sinner had to sort of retire, or he got really badly beaten in Roland Garros. And he went away and he just committed himself
- 34:33to training. And what I don't think we see, eh, Victor, is all those mornings you get up, all the recovery, all the hard work, and so to reach a milestone like that for Will, I'm just really stoked for him because there'd be a hell of a lot of hard work. He's had a hard season. He's been injured a few times. You know, there's a little bit of criticism about him being picked without form, and he's just repaid it.
- 34:54tenfold. So well done, Will. Enjoy your record. Keep scoring them because the higher you set the bar, the higher the All Blacks continue to grow. So he's building on the legacy by making it really, really hard for the next guy. Alright, well that's a great way to end for rugby rivals this week. People of South Africa might be a little bit warmer towards you, JK, but you've certainly lost the Scots, so we'll just go country by country. Trying to tell the truth, Ricardo. Who have Scotland got this week? The fourth best team or...
- 35:24Well, Scotland beat Argentina. Didn't they beat the All Blacks last year? Who have you got this year? Who have you got this week, Victor? We're playing Wales. Oh, Wales. Yeah, I'm worried for Wales. It's fair to say. You should be. It depends. Let's see what Russia picks. We'll probably see today. I see he likes announcing the teams on Monday now.
- 35:49That's a stupid rule anyway. We all name our teams on Monday. We just don't announce them till Thursday because we're all paranoid that someone's going to work something out. I don't get that stuff. It's stupid. Yeah, I'm just trying to see who Scotland's playing, actually. Scotland are probably going back to Scotland and playing Fiji. Are they playing Fiji and Fiji? I don't know. I haven't got that detail. Well, that's your job, Riccardo. You're supposed to know this stuff. Yeah, let's call it off here, eh?
- 36:20Thanks very much for joining us. We'll catch you next week. See you guys.
