- 0:05Welcome to The Hypnotist, the show that gives you inside
- 0:09access to cutting edge hypnosis with real clients facing.
- 0:12Genuine issues. Brought to you by The
- 0:14Hypnotherapist, Demanded by celebrities, CEOs and even
- 0:18royalty, Adam Cox. These recordings took place live
- 0:22from Adam Smith in London's world famous Harley Street.
- 0:29So get yourself comfortable and enjoy today's episode of The
- 0:33Hypnotist. How would you like to?
- 0:40Feel invincible in. Particular situations where
- 0:45you're. Presenting in public.
- 0:47And that doesn't matter if it's a best man speech or a company
- 0:51presentation or a dinner party or an informal gathering.
- 0:55Where you're just. Sharing a particular message or
- 0:58all eyes are on you. But if you felt invincible in
- 1:01that situation, would it be useful?
- 1:05My name is Adam, and I've helped a particular client to feel
- 1:09invincible in the kind of situation that was getting them
- 1:14on edge and anxious and nervous. Now, this hypnosis session that
- 1:19you're about to listen to takes them back to a time where they
- 1:23felt really, really good, but it had nothing to do with public
- 1:26speaking. It had to do with snowboarding.
- 1:29And they felt on one particular day they were in that flow
- 1:33state. They felt they could do anything
- 1:35and they felt, to use their words, invincible.
- 1:38So what this session does? Is.
- 1:40It takes that feeling of invincibility and maps it across
- 1:44to a public speaking environment.
- 1:48Now, to get the best out of this session, I'm going to prime you
- 1:51right now. I want you to think even before
- 1:53the hypnosis starts, when in your life have you felt
- 1:57invincible? And if you can't think of that,
- 2:00when in your life have you been in a flow state where whatever
- 2:03came up, you felt that you could just deal with it?
- 2:06Think of that. And then when you hear the
- 2:09beginning of this hypnosis session talking about
- 2:10snowboarding, I want you to think about that time that you
- 2:14felt either invincible or in a flow state.
- 2:18And then that way you're going to get more out of this session.
- 2:22Now I also want you to think of the kind of environments where
- 2:25you feel anxious. Maybe it's very.
- 2:29Senior High. Status, people observing you.
- 2:32Maybe it's the size of the audience, maybe it's the fact
- 2:35that you feel under prepared or ambushed.
- 2:38Whatever it is, think of that. So I want you to think of the
- 2:40resource state and the kind of context that currently is making
- 2:44you feel anxious. And just by thinking of those
- 2:46two thoughts or memories, you're going to get so much more value
- 2:49from this session. It was created in it for an
- 2:52individual, obviously with the snowboarding reference.
- 2:55So not all of the suggestions are going to be right for you,
- 2:57but if you like the idea of working with me and you're not
- 2:59quite sure. Have a look.
- 3:01In the description and you're going to see a suitability test.
- 3:04It takes under 2 minutes to do. It just asks you a series of
- 3:08questions, you answer them, and then it's going to give you the
- 3:11percentage probability that you would actually benefit from
- 3:15hypnosis. So if you've been curious about
- 3:17that, check that out and it will also let you know what to do
- 3:21after that if you are interested in using hypnosis beyond just
- 3:25listening to a podcast. For now though, I want you to
- 3:28find a quiet, comfortable place, the kind of place where you're
- 3:31not going to be distracted or disturbed.
- 3:33Relax and enjoy this session. Take a deep breath in, and as
- 4:04you breathe in, breathe in that long, slow, relaxing breath.
- 4:12And as you exhale, feel a feeling of release, releasing
- 4:23any tension, any stress, any worries, slowly and
- 4:34incrementally. And I want you to think of a
- 4:39colour that represents a fusion of relaxation and confidence.
- 4:49And maybe it's gold or yellow or something else that might be
- 4:56bright or vibrant. And just imagine as you breathe
- 5:02in, you're breathing in that color that represents
- 5:06resourceful confidence. Imagine it going in through your
- 5:12nose into your lungs, and maybe you can imagine your heart
- 5:20taking that resourceful confidence in the same way it
- 5:25does with oxygen and distributing it to every cell in
- 5:31your body. And instead of that carbon
- 5:39dioxide leaving your body in the outward breath, I want you to
- 5:42imagine anything unresourceful, any fears, any doubts, any
- 5:55concerns, any insecurities. Just imagine it leaving your
- 6:04body like a grey shadowy sensation, just leaving your
- 6:09body as you exhale, breathing in the resourceful confidence and
- 6:19exhaling any limitations, any echoes of old experiences,
- 6:33narrative stories. Just feel it leave your body in
- 6:39your outward breath. The deeper you breathe, the more
- 6:49relaxed you feel. And the more relaxed you feel
- 6:56the deeper you breathe, each breath taking you deeper and
- 7:07deeper, relaxed. And as your body relaxes, your
- 7:14imagination awakens. And I want you to imagine.
- 7:21Imagine seeing an old phone that maybe you had 20 years ago, or
- 7:32maybe an old laptop, an old computer.
- 7:38Now. Just imagine finding a location
- 7:42filled with old photos and pictures of a particular
- 7:49snowboarding trip. And these photos don't have to
- 7:53exist, It's just imagine if they did.
- 8:00And I want you to imagine seeing photos of you at a time when you
- 8:06felt invincible. Some people call it a flow
- 8:12state, that period in time where it just feels like you're
- 8:21harnessing skills and capabilities beyond what should
- 8:27be happening. And I want you to imagine as you
- 8:32see these photos, whenever you look at one for more than two
- 8:38seconds, it turns into a movie of that moment.
- 8:43I want you to see yourself perfectly balanced, gracefully
- 8:50or effortlessly gliding down slopes.
- 8:56See the creativity, the confidence, the self belief.
- 9:04And maybe you're seeing yourself do jumps or manoeuvres that
- 9:09you'd never done before. And if you can get a sense that
- 9:14this version of you has got absolute belief in their
- 9:20capabilities, let me know by nodding your head.
- 9:27And I want you to imagine what it would feel like to go into
- 9:32the screen, into the picture, into the memory, not in your own
- 9:38body yet, but as an observer, see that version of you from the
- 9:46past in a highly resourceful state.
- 9:53And perhaps you come to a natural conclusion that when
- 9:59you're in a highly resourceful state, you don't need to
- 10:04overthink. You don't need to over prepare.
- 10:11That version of you, when you're at your most resourceful, has
- 10:16self belief, self trust and the ability to respond quickly to
- 10:25what's actually happening. And as you come to that
- 10:32conclusion that if you would have over prepared and
- 10:38overthought and had your thoughts in your own head in
- 10:42that moment, you would have been worse, not better.
- 10:48Then imagine floating into your body and feeling what it would
- 10:51feel like to see the line up of the jumps, to get a sense of
- 10:58your balance on the board. Perhaps even the cool crispness
- 11:03in the air, the tightness around your ankles and calves, the
- 11:12feeling of exhilaration, acceleration, perhaps even the
- 11:19feeling of weightlessness while you're mid jump.
- 11:23And I want you to get a sense this, this is a blueprint, the
- 11:38blueprint of accessing this flow state in any other area of your
- 11:46life, trusting and then focusing not on yourself, but on the
- 11:57terrain, that balance between capability and situations.
- 12:08And maybe you feel something there in the chest, something
- 12:12that feels that if in that situation someone challenged
- 12:17you, questioned your abilities, there would be something
- 12:25appealing about that. If someone didn't know how well
- 12:31you could snowboard, the fact that you are underestimated or
- 12:40just simply not known would mean that if you were challenged, you
- 12:47might smile because you know that your abilities exceed
- 12:56either the demand or the perception.
- 13:02I want you to imagine it's the end of a great day of
- 13:09snowboarding, of connecting, of laughing, of feeling all of that
- 13:14dopamine and connection. And I want you to imagine
- 13:19somewhere close by is a cabin. Not necessarily the cabin you
- 13:24were in, but just a cabin. I want you to imagine you're no
- 13:30longer on the board. You're no longer in the gear and
- 13:36I want you to imagine you walk into that cabin and maybe you
- 13:40can imagine the warmth of a log fire, feeling connected,
- 13:50comfortable. And I want you to imagine that
- 13:54in this cabin is your own private cinema.
- 14:02And here in this cinema, rather than seeing movies, we see
- 14:07memories. And I want you to imagine a
- 14:13moment from the past when you were the most confident, the
- 14:21most comfortable that you can recall being when presenting.
- 14:29Maybe it was a small meeting or a large presentation to 100
- 14:35people or more, but I want you to see on that screen what you
- 14:40look like when you are grounded, confident, comfortable, and
- 14:50maybe even occasionally defiant. Well, you get a sense of what
- 14:57you look like when you are in a highly resourceful state when
- 15:01speaking. Let me know by nodding your head
- 15:09and let's just test it out. Imagine floating into the screen
- 15:12and feeling how it would feel to be that way, to connect with
- 15:19that feeling or feeling grounded.
- 15:24Feel the weight evenly distributed.
- 15:26Feel your chest expand, shoulders back, chin up, eye
- 15:34contact. Slow, steady, deliberate.
- 15:38Imagine looking at your hands and just seeing how rock solid
- 15:42stable they are. Imagine putting a hand on your
- 15:47belly and your chest and just assessing how you breathe.
- 15:51When you're calm, confident, comfortable, awaken all these
- 15:59parts within you. Return to the cabin and then see
- 16:04a memory of a time when you were anxious presenting.
- 16:11See it as it was, maybe looking agitated, nervous.
- 16:20But then imagine rewinding that and replacing that version of
- 16:28you with the version of you that is calm, confident, comfortable,
- 16:35grounded, perhaps even defiant. Still seeing it on the screen.
- 16:43But now imagine yourself reliving that moment the way you
- 16:52would have wanted it to have been if you were at your most
- 16:55resourceful. And if you can see how the
- 17:00memory changes when the resourceful version of you is in
- 17:06control, let me know by nodding your head.
- 17:20And you can play around with different scenarios, the
- 17:24confident version of you testing out different postures, facial
- 17:33expressions, until you find the wrong that is just right.
- 17:40And when you find it and it feels like if you were in that
- 17:45state, it would have gone that way, let me know by nodding your
- 17:49head. That's it.
- 17:51Rewind it and step into the screen.
- 17:56And that version of you feeling that resourceful state.
- 18:04But rather than seconds before you talk, I want you to imagine
- 18:10being in the resourceful state, going back when you very first
- 18:16got notified of it. Maybe it was an e-mail, a
- 18:20meeting invite, something that comes up in the calendar.
- 18:23And just imagine seeing the meeting invite smiling, knowing
- 18:27you've got this. And every time you see it in the
- 18:31calendar, you smile, I've got this.
- 18:37And then it's minutes before it starts and your focus isn't on
- 18:42you. Perhaps it's on whoever's
- 18:45talking before you and you feel I've got this.
- 18:51And then you're invited to speak.
- 18:54And then imagine you smile right before fill your eyes.
- 19:02You're completely relaxed from your eyebrows, eyelids all
- 19:05around your eyes, feel a sense of slow steady breathing,
- 19:12grounded every footstep or even when you stand you just feel
- 19:17rock solid. And then imagine saying whatever
- 19:24you wanted to say and feeling how calm and confident you feel.
- 19:35And if it feels that if you were in that state instead of the old
- 19:41memory, then you feel that you can handle it.
- 19:46Just let me know by nodding your head.
- 19:51And then I want you to imagine we make it more challenging than
- 19:56it actually was. I want you to imagine the facial
- 20:04expressions of whoever you're talking to being bored,
- 20:08disinterested, disengaged. Judgmental.
- 20:15And I want you to feel somewhere in your body that you like the
- 20:19challenge. It makes you really feel either
- 20:27more engaged or that you have nothing to lose.
- 20:31Whatever makes you feel more resourceful.
- 20:36Imagine someone asking a question.
- 20:39You don't know the answer and yet it does not faze you.
- 20:44Connect with that feeling of you can thank them for the question.
- 20:52If it's a really tricky question, congratulate them on
- 20:57the knowledge or the understanding they have because
- 20:59it's such a good question. And maybe use humour or
- 21:07authenticity, honesty. Maybe you say something like
- 21:15well I don't know the specifics there, but here's what I do
- 21:18know. Maybe you turn it into a joke.
- 21:24I want you to feel how comfortable you feel even if
- 21:29someone catches you off guard with something you don't fully
- 21:32know. Imagine someone else asks a
- 21:38question, but not from a desire to understand.
- 21:45Imagine someone ask a question to try and catch you out, to see
- 21:53you trip up. And I want you to scan your body
- 21:58for where you feel that defiance, the playfulness, the
- 22:04fun. But the more tricky they make
- 22:11it, the more fun it feels. And maybe maybe you hold a
- 22:20mirror back to them, let them know that you know what they're
- 22:26doing. Or maybe maybe you just deal
- 22:32with it in a very humble, polite way.
- 22:38Or maybe maybe you answer a question with a question.
- 22:44Play the Uno reverse card. Allow your unconscious to give
- 22:49you different scenarios so that you can feel that even if this
- 22:54happened, your resources exceed the demands.
- 23:01No different than if you're snowboarding and something you
- 23:06didn't see in front of you, you then become aware of a branch, a
- 23:10rock and you trust your ability to manoeuvre well.
- 23:17Whatever comes up when you notice it.
- 23:24If you feel resourceful, confident, grounded and calm
- 23:34that your brain will give you a new belief.
- 23:38And that belief is then the more you encounter challenging
- 23:46situations when presenting, the more competent you become, the
- 23:54more confident you feel. And the more confident you feel,
- 24:01the more relaxed and the more fun you can have.
- 24:06And I want you to imagine leaving the screen and still
- 24:15being in that cabin. But instead of seeing the past,
- 24:19I want you to imagine seeing something in the future that
- 24:23hasn't happened yet. And I want you to imagine seeing
- 24:28that version of you get a meeting invite and see that
- 24:34version of you smile the very moment it arrives.
- 24:38You're looking forward to it, genuinely.
- 24:43But whenever that version of you sees it in the calendar, there's
- 24:48a feeling of I want this. I don't have to do this.
- 24:52I get to do this. It's fun for you.
- 24:58And then imagine the day arrives.
- 25:03See that version of you minutes before it happens, looking calm,
- 25:10composed and relaxed with the same facial expression that you
- 25:16had back on that day snowboarding, knowing that you
- 25:23were invincible. Just allow neural pathways from
- 25:33the past and the future to update new meanings, new
- 25:39connotations, certain emotional pathways close and others open.
- 25:47And don't be surprised if in the next few days there is an
- 25:51invitation to present, to speak, to share ideas.
- 25:57And don't be surprised if your very first reaction is to smile.
- 26:04And maybe there's a voice, maybe that same voice from 20 years
- 26:12ago. And knowing that you could
- 26:16snowboard in any terrain, what if it's that voice that just
- 26:22tells you in that moment you've got this, and as you hold that
- 26:31thorn, it's time to return. Return from that moment all the
- 26:37way to the present, but taking these new beliefs, ideas and
- 26:41connotations with you. So take a deep breath in through
- 26:45your nose and out through your nose.
- 26:49Wiggle your fingers, wiggle your toes.
- 26:51Connect and calibrate into the here and the now as I now count
- 26:56from 1:00 to 10:00 to awaken you.
- 26:59Starting to count 123 waking up 456 More alert 7-8.
- 27:07Open your eyes. Open your eyes, 910.
- 27:10Wide awake, wide awake, wide awake.
- 27:20Thank you so much for joining me on.
