  [SPEAKER_00]: Hey, grow squad.
• 0:17
[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome to another episode of the Eugene Hamilton podcast.
• 0:20
[SPEAKER_00]: Man, I've got something hot today to share with you.
• 0:23
[SPEAKER_00]: There's a little bit different from our normal conversation.
• 0:26
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm actually targeting leaders and educators and people that have
• 0:32
[SPEAKER_00]: Great influence on the lives of those that they are in close contact with every single day.
• 0:38
[SPEAKER_00]: So let's bring it going, God, thank you for this moment for this time, bless us, give us insight and understanding in your name, amen.
• 0:47
[SPEAKER_00]: Um, everyone you step into, people should know that you've been there.
• 0:55
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not saying you got to walk in and do the electric slide or walk in and have the loudest voice or walk in and be the flyest or have the most business cards passed out.
• 1:09
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm saying when you walk into a room, if that asks yourself, what happens when you walk into
• 1:21
[SPEAKER_00]: Our people are excited that you came into the room, and after you left, are they, or do they feel as if they've been, they've been impacted positively, because you were there, because I know, I know, I know for a well that people walk into a room.
• 1:39
[SPEAKER_00]: And the room is impacted either positively or negatively.
• 1:43
[SPEAKER_00]: I get it, I get it, I get it.
• 1:45
[SPEAKER_00]: I understand that when you walk into a room, you may be saying, yeah, the room's shift, but it makes shift the room direction or in a direction that I don't want it to shift, you've got to understand this.
• 1:57
[SPEAKER_00]: For the most part, you can't control that.
• 2:01
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I know you're looking at me like, oh, oh, are you listening to me like, I don't know, I don't know, I don't agree.
• 2:05
[SPEAKER_00]: And that's cool, you don't have to agree.
• 2:09
[SPEAKER_00]: But I want to share with you some ways in which you, listen, you control the narrative relative to how you leave a room.
• 2:20
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, there's something to be said about people who walk into a room and the vast majority of people are excited and delighted that they're there and only a fraction of people.
• 2:39
[SPEAKER_00]: Have something negative to say.
• 2:41
[SPEAKER_00]: Because in life, just just the way of the world, this always going to be some haters, right?
• 2:50
[SPEAKER_00]: Whether you are as meek and as humble as I'll get out, whether you come in and you leave with questions and leave with an inquisitive mind, whether you come in and you just lay down your vision and lay out your expectations, somebody, unfortunately, somewhere, is going to take issue with you.
• 3:11
[SPEAKER_00]: And when I started as a local church pastor it was so funny to me how I would sometimes approach meetings
• 3:21
[SPEAKER_00]: after having prayer, after getting counsel, after feeling like God had laid it up on my heart to share with those individuals that I was serving that this is the direction we're moving in.
• 3:33
[SPEAKER_00]: Here is how much money is going to take.
• 3:35
[SPEAKER_00]: Here's how much effort is going to take.
• 3:37
[SPEAKER_00]: Here's who we need on board.
• 3:38
[SPEAKER_00]: There was always somebody and it was funny because some people would show up to some of these meetings that didn't show up from week to week.
• 3:45
[SPEAKER_00]: They would show up for
• 3:47
[SPEAKER_00]: on these town hall meetings of sorts that we would have with the congregation, but they never showed up to support the weekend and the week out, minutiously that we were engaged in.
• 3:58
[SPEAKER_00]: But we're so funded to me that sometimes people would show up and they're so purpose was to let me know that whatever that vision I was about to share with them, it wasn't gonna push forward.
• 4:10
[SPEAKER_00]: what it wasn't going to materialize.
• 4:12
[SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't going to happen.
• 4:13
  [SPEAKER_00]: Why?
• 4:14
[SPEAKER_00]: Because they had the influence and the ear of the room and they could sway it.
• 4:20
[SPEAKER_00]: Now that was the case when I first got there.
• 4:24
[SPEAKER_00]: But after time, and I kept making positive deposits into that congregation.
• 4:32
  [SPEAKER_00]: After time,
• 4:34
[SPEAKER_00]: When that congregation saw that my heart was pure and they saw that, hey, we're getting results.
• 4:42
[SPEAKER_00]: When that congregation finally saw after a little while that, hey, they heard that I was a man of God, but then they experienced the fact that my heart was only wishing to be led by God.
• 4:56
[SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes when those haters showed up, I mean, listen, those haters never stopped showing up.
• 5:02
  [SPEAKER_00]: Here's the point I'm making.
• 5:03
  [SPEAKER_00]: Here it is.
• 5:04
  [SPEAKER_00]: Listen very clearly.
• 5:06
  [SPEAKER_00]: Those haters never.
• 5:08
[SPEAKER_00]: Even though I started getting some wins in my belt.
• 5:11
[SPEAKER_00]: Even though I started getting some some reps under my belt that were positive.
• 5:15
[SPEAKER_00]: Even though I started making contact and making strides in in our efforts.
• 5:20
[SPEAKER_00]: Those haters never stopped showing up.
• 5:29
[SPEAKER_00]: haters will not stop showing up.
• 5:32
[SPEAKER_00]: If you a classroom teacher, listen, walking into those rooms with those students for that school year or for that semester listen, those young people that are going to come to class to give you a negative time or give you a hard time, they're not going to stop showing up.
• 5:50
[SPEAKER_00]: you walk into their school campus and there are people who don't like the fact that you're making inroads and making positive impact they're not going to stop for the most part they're not going to stop showing up when you walk into that that office building the day right and there are people who see that you're making a positive impact as the new CEO or as whatever whatever your role is the haters are not going to stop showing up
• 6:19
[SPEAKER_00]: And because they won't stop showing up, here's my message to you.
• 6:24
[SPEAKER_00]: You can't stop showing up.
• 6:27
[SPEAKER_00]: Just because haters show up doesn't mean that you're assignment is canceled.
• 6:31
[SPEAKER_00]: I just said something there.
• 6:32
[SPEAKER_00]: Just because haters show up does not give you the green light to stop showing up.
• 6:39
[SPEAKER_00]: In fact, the fact that you know that people are going to show up and they're going to do their best to upset the cart.
• 6:46
[SPEAKER_00]: They're going to do their best to throw something in a negative twist on things.
• 6:52
[SPEAKER_00]: That means you should show up even more prepared.
• 6:54
[SPEAKER_00]: Even more ready, even in a position where you're like, you know what?
• 6:59
[SPEAKER_00]: No weapon formula, gas means it's going to prosper.
• 7:09
[SPEAKER_00]: into a room where positive intent or not, excuse me, people are going to show up on one side of the street of the other.
• 7:23
[SPEAKER_00]: The way that you impact and influence despite the noise, as you keep being real,
• 7:36
[SPEAKER_00]: you continue to keep others first and you don't allow the negative energy to sway you.
• 7:45
  [SPEAKER_00]: I know it's hard.
• 7:46
  [SPEAKER_00]: I know it's hard.
• 7:46
  [SPEAKER_00]: I know it's not easy.
• 7:48
[SPEAKER_00]: I know without a doubt that you're human and sometimes when things happen, sometimes when when individuals, sometimes things get under your skin because you are human.
• 8:03
  [SPEAKER_00]: I understand it.
• 8:03
  [SPEAKER_00]: I'm not saying
• 8:06
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not suggesting that you're anything other than who you really are.
• 8:09
[SPEAKER_00]: What I'm telling you today is when you're convinced and convicted about your assignment, when people show up with the desire to do something other than what you know you supposed to do, you know that it's just noise.
• 8:28
[SPEAKER_00]: You can't control the noise, but you can control you.
• 8:33
[SPEAKER_00]: Write that down, put a stamp on it, put in the mailbox into your friends.
• 8:38
[SPEAKER_00]: You can't control the noise, but you can control how you respond to the noise.
• 8:45
[SPEAKER_00]: I can't control the haters, but I can't control how I respond to the haters.
• 8:51
[SPEAKER_00]: I can't control the negative people, but I can control how I respond to the negative people.
• 8:56
  [SPEAKER_00]: You can't control trolls.
• 8:58
[SPEAKER_00]: Trolls are going to show up.
• 9:02
[SPEAKER_00]: All right, but I can control how I respond to a troll, or to someone that's trolling, I should say.
• 9:11
  [SPEAKER_00]: Get this, get this.
• 9:15
[SPEAKER_00]: Your greatest leadership tool is your influence.
• 9:24
[SPEAKER_00]: Your greatest leadership tool is your input.
• 9:28
[SPEAKER_00]: Now it's funny because I think sometimes, when I say you can control you, people take that to me that you should lay down like a rug and let people just walk all over you.
• 9:40
[SPEAKER_00]: I am not saying that and that is not a good example of being a great leader.
• 9:48
[SPEAKER_00]: You guys stand up for yourself.
• 9:50
[SPEAKER_00]: You gotta speak up, but the way you do it.
• 9:55
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not saying that I return equal for evil.
• 9:57
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not saying if someone curses you out, you got to use their saying derocatory language.
• 10:02
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not, please don't go tip for tat.
• 10:05
[SPEAKER_00]: Don't go toe for toe.
• 10:06
[SPEAKER_00]: Don't respond evil with evil with the wh-this and you can defend yourself and stay in character and put people in their place at the same time.
• 10:14
  [SPEAKER_00]: It's possible.
• 10:15
  [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I know it.
• 10:16
  [SPEAKER_00]: I know it's possible.
• 10:17
  [SPEAKER_00]: I've done it.
• 10:18
[SPEAKER_00]: I've seen it done with mastery.
• 10:21
[SPEAKER_00]: People who know that they're on assignment with the purpose.
• 10:25
[SPEAKER_00]: understand that it is not your duty to clown or to embarrass people, but it is your duty to stand on business.
• 10:34
[SPEAKER_00]: It is not your duty to make people look foolish or feel foolish or feel little, but it is your duty to carry out your responsibilities with further, with professionalism
• 10:54
[SPEAKER_00]: wrote people the wrong way?
• 10:56
  [SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.
• 10:58
  [SPEAKER_00]: Can you control that?
• 11:00
  [SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely not.
• 11:01
[SPEAKER_00]: Can you control you and your influence?
• 11:03
  [SPEAKER_00]: Listen, listen.
• 11:10
[SPEAKER_00]: I love the way that I see people in leadership position
• 11:23
[SPEAKER_00]: individuals who are only trying to tear them down.
• 11:28
[SPEAKER_00]: I love to see it.
• 11:29
[SPEAKER_00]: Now now now I've seen people who again be little other people and that almost weak is their influence.
• 11:41
[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, yeah, you, you set that person up for the moment.
• 11:45
[SPEAKER_00]: But for the other onlookers,
• 11:49
[SPEAKER_00]: They didn't see you respond with grace and in a manner that will make, of course, make people stop them in their tracks, but also get them to think about what they're doing in a different way.
• 12:08
[SPEAKER_00]: It's almost as if we've got to, we must, we must get to a place in our journey where we're so confident and who we are that sometimes, and I use it as an example, sometimes I will give people just enough, I don't want to say, let me use another expression, I will give people just enough leeway to kind of trip themselves up, yeah, I give them just enough rope,
• 12:39
  [SPEAKER_00]: to trip themselves.
• 12:41
[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't have to do it for them.
• 12:45
[SPEAKER_00]: It's like I will give them just, eat enough.
• 12:47
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, cool, you won that one.
• 12:50
  [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, you won that.
• 12:50
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, you won that argument.
• 12:52
  [SPEAKER_00]: God, you.
• 12:55
[SPEAKER_00]: Then I watch God do his work on the other end.
• 12:59
[SPEAKER_00]: So I want to encourage you to protect your influence by protecting your mouth,
• 13:12
[SPEAKER_00]: Masterful and how you respond is again everything that need to be responded to But at some point Either I let your work speak for you Are you got a respond verbally while the work is getting done?
• 13:34
  [SPEAKER_00]: But you control that
• 13:36
  [SPEAKER_00]: Right.
• 13:37
[SPEAKER_00]: So, so here it is.
• 13:38
  [SPEAKER_00]: Here it is.
• 13:38
  [SPEAKER_00]: Now land here.
• 13:40
[SPEAKER_00]: But I want you, I want you to really get to a place where you understand that as you are as you are navigating whatever over the terrain.
• 13:57
[SPEAKER_00]: It's important that you, because I see people all the time.
• 14:00
[SPEAKER_00]: Some people I see, they have one bullet in the chamber.
• 14:04
[SPEAKER_00]: And when I mean that, what about that is they have one way of responding to people who are getting under their skin and that's it.
• 14:09
[SPEAKER_00]: They have one way of trying their best to get their point across and that's it.
• 14:14
[SPEAKER_00]: When you read and avail yourself to other styles of leadership and other styles of influence, you actually broaden your vocabulary.
• 14:25
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, you read, and you study, or you even watch ducking, and listen, if you're in a lot of work and you're sending yourself, I want to lead like this person, right?
• 14:37
[SPEAKER_00]: And there could be a person that's walking this earth.
• 14:39
[SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes people, you know, I want to lead like Jesus, I got you.
• 14:42
[SPEAKER_00]: But sometimes there's a person who is who is leading right now in modern history in modern, this modern era.
• 14:56
[SPEAKER_00]: It's okay to look at examples.
• 14:58
[SPEAKER_00]: They may have a podcast, but they're responding and letting you know how they navigate.
• 15:02
[SPEAKER_00]: It's okay to broaden your scope, broaden your horizon, and invite other ideas into your mind that will aid you and help you navigate the space that you're in.
• 15:16
[SPEAKER_00]: So, hope that if you're in a position of influence, you're using it correctly.
• 15:26
[SPEAKER_00]: If you're in a position of influence, you're not abusing your position of influence, but you're using it.
• 15:32
[SPEAKER_00]: to lift people up and you're using it.
• 15:35
[SPEAKER_00]: Hear me out, to ensure that you're leaving a legacy that will help people become the best version of themselves.
• 15:45
[SPEAKER_00]: Hope you'll share this out.
• 15:47
[SPEAKER_00]: Hope that you've been impacted in some way by this week's episode.
• 15:50
[SPEAKER_00]: I hope that through at all, you're going, you're growing, and you're glowing.
• 15:55
[SPEAKER_00]: I'll see you next week.
• 15:57
  [SPEAKER_00]: Same time, same place.
• 15:58
  [SPEAKER_00]: Onto then.
• 15:59
  [SPEAKER_00]: Take care.
• 16:00
  [SPEAKER_00]: Peace.
