Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Good morning, everybody who's got a trillion dollars to spare
- 0:03Speaker 1: this morning, have you? That's the value of our new
- 0:07Speaker 1: climate change tab from COP twenty nine. The Climate change
- 0:11Speaker 1: conference this year, all the officials, the politicians, the experts,
- 0:15Speaker 1: the industry, every man and his dog has flown to
- 0:19Speaker 1: Azerbaijan to lecture everybody not in the room about climate change.
- 0:24Speaker 1: And they're already cranking the classics through the stage speakers.
- 0:27Speaker 1: We're at a turning point, the Paris Agreements, at a
- 0:31Speaker 1: crucial tipping point, because Donald Trump's going to pull out,
- 0:34Speaker 1: even though we've been through this crucial tipping point before.
- 0:37Speaker 1: Last time he was in our house, is burning all
- 0:40Speaker 1: the classics. And this is the problem with Cop insert
- 0:43Speaker 1: number here. No one really listens. Every year they make
- 0:47Speaker 1: the same pilgrimage and give the same speech, and every
- 0:49Speaker 1: year we shrug our shoulders and wonder, why doesn't the
- 0:52Speaker 1: number ever match the year? Shouldn't it be COP twenty four?
- 0:56Speaker 1: Oh well, back to them all for another coffee at
- 0:59Speaker 1: Robert Harry Rus. I also need to pick up some
- 1:02Speaker 1: presents from Kmart for the grandkids this Christmas. Things to
- 1:05Speaker 1: do if the definition of insanity is doing the same
- 1:09Speaker 1: thing every year, over and over and expecting a different
- 1:11Speaker 1: result than These guys are beyond nuts. The big push
- 1:15Speaker 1: this year is finance. They wanted rich countries supposedly like ours,
- 1:20Speaker 1: to pay one hundred billion dollars a year to poor
- 1:22Speaker 1: countries to stop them from burning coal and adapting to
- 1:24Speaker 1: climate change by twenty twenty. Well, we missed that goal,
- 1:27Speaker 1: and now they want a trillion dollars a year. That's
- 1:31Speaker 1: one thousand billion, or four elon musks. Despite all the
- 1:36Speaker 1: talk and flying around in threats and end of day's speeches,
- 1:39Speaker 1: global emissions went up last year, reaching record levels. Do
- 1:45Speaker 1: we care about climate change? Yes, enough to change our
- 1:48Speaker 1: habits in a major way. No, we keep electing leaders
- 1:52Speaker 1: to fix other things like inflation, and until that changes,
- 1:56Speaker 1: or all of our houses actually do catch fire, will
- 2:00Speaker 1: be at the mall down at Robert Harris not listening
- 2:04Speaker 1: to Azerbaijan For more from Early edition with Ryan Bridge.
