- 0:10SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the Daily Writer, where we share a lesson each day to help you cultivate the habits for writing success.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: We writers want lots of things.
- 0:19SPEAKER_00: We want to have successful books.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: We want to be acknowledged for our creative work.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: We want to make a difference in people's lives with our writing.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: We probably want to make a little bit of money if we can, or even have a writing-based business that can support our family financially.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: There's another thing that many writers want, especially us introverts who have a limited amount of emotional energy to go around.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: What is it?
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: We want a day where we don't have to talk to anybody.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: We want a day where we can get lost in our thoughts without the distractions of conversations.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: We want a day that we can devote to making great progress in our current writing project.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: Sometimes we just want a day when we can recharge our emotional batteries instead of having them drained by the needs of friends, connections, clients, and family members.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: Now we love and respect those people, of course, and we've got to have people in our lives.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: I mean, people make the world go around, but in our hearts, if we're totally honest, sometimes we just want a day to ourselves.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: But here is how you can get that day to yourself.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: Make a cardinal rule that one day per week, you don't do any calls or social media.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: Now, this might be easier said than done depending on your schedule, your family situation, or your business, but it's helpful to make a rule that there are certain times of the week that you block out just for yourself.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: After all, you are your first client.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: You deserve your best time.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: Without taking care of yourself first, without giving attention to your emotional, mental, and physical energy, you can't serve anybody else very well.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: Now, personally, I block out Fridays on my calendar as my no-call days.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: I don't do any calls for connections, for clients, or even for friends.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: Now, I do occasionally break this rule if it's really needed, but for the most part, I set this rule and I pretty much keep it.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: Whenever I wake up on Fridays, I can do it with a big smile on my face because I have devoted the whole day to work and to writing with no distractions or conversations.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: Nobody's gonna set this rule for you, and you may not even have a whole day when you can do this.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: Maybe it's just a couple of hours per week.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: But if you're an introvert and you feel the pressure to constantly connect with people, maybe it's a good idea to have a no connection rule one day a week or at least for a couple of hours every week.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: Here's the daily question.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: How would your writing and emotional life benefit from having a set time of no connection once a week?
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: Thanks so much for listening to today's episode.
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: If you've been listening to this show for any length of time, you know that one of the four practices of a great writer is creativity.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: And in order to stay creative, you've got to have great input.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: And that's where writing prompts come in.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: A writing prompt is a sentence or two that helps you break through creative blocks, brainstorm new ideas, and get back into a state of flow.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: Writing prompts are an awesome creative tool for journaling, storytelling, creative writing, stress relief, social media posts, and so much more.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: But the great news is that you don't have to create these yourself.
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: We've put together an amazing package of 365 daily writing prompts.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: So every day for the next year, you can have a shot of inspiration delivered straight to your inbox.
