- 0:02[SPEAKER_00]: Hi folks.
- 0:03[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome to the episode of Film Study.
- 0:04[SPEAKER_00]: This is Ken McCusik.
- 0:05[SPEAKER_00]: It's time for camp notes from August 4th, the sixth day of Ravens Training Camp, the second day that they've been in pads, sunny day mid 80s, the fans are back at the facility.
- 0:17[SPEAKER_00]: The big news came out in the middle of practice.
- 0:20[SPEAKER_00]: We heard it happened early in practice.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_00]: The Z-flowers contract extension came out and four years, 140 million
- 0:27[SPEAKER_00]: I do not have the end year on that yet, but I suspect it's 231 after the fifth year option and then a four year extension is completed.
- 0:38[SPEAKER_00]: It's the injuries today.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_00]: We had John Jenkins missing from practice.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_00]: Also, not they met a PK, not there.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_00]: Colleys Campbell was back, however.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_00]: And Travis Jones, Teddy Buchanan, still on PUP, Corey Bullock, so NFI.
- 0:54[SPEAKER_00]: Zee Flowers was a way finishing his contract as we're told in Jesse Metra mentioned that he didn't want him to be out there on the football field with that kind of a high.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_00]: He didn't, he would be that kind of a, it would be a good idea.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_00]: And any of his people's the only really undisclosed absence, John Jenkins was out also after working on this sled yesterday.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_00]: The Ravens had Kendall Lamb in uniform, he was signed to fill out the 15 man offensive line group, the teams, or at least the Ravens typically carry during camps, they can have exactly three full units and lamb was playing right tackle on one of those.
- 1:30[SPEAKER_00]: We had Tyler Loup tried some field goals, so these happened at the end of camp, but just for flow of the show recently, I'm going to tell you about them right now.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_00]: He had 7 of 7, 32 from the left hash, 37 from the right hash, 41 from the left hash, 45 from
- 1:44[SPEAKER_00]: 49 from the left hash 53 from the right hash and 57 from the left hash that just creeped over the bar, but a great set of kicks by him that 49 yard kick would have been good by plenty.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_00]: Both the 53 and the 57 had a simulated run on to go with them the 53 in particular had outstanding end over end rotation to to make it over the bar.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_00]: The offensive line drills included past-bocking today.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_00]: Something I hadn't seen too much of before, but there is a good two-handed lockout reps and some one-handed control reps will call them.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_00]: We tried to redirect a defensive lineman.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_00]: They did some work on twists and stunts, and they did it with two and three-man groups, so they're really getting, obviously, if you do a twist and stunts, you doesn't really make sense to do that drill unless you have at least
- 2:33[SPEAKER_00]: two offensive linemen to make that exchange, but it also can make sense with three, and you do a lot of things with three-man protections where you're trying to show how the third man has to look for work or control the inside.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_00]: Use the usually his outside arm on one side of the other in order to keep a player from moving into a lane and then look for work to the other direction.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_00]: So, some good work on pass-bocking today, it looked like they were working hard and it does look like you know, Ledford is teaching that as well.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_00]: One of my concerns to this point in camp had been almost everything I've seen has been a run-blocking drill and you know, you're trying to get fast off the ball and maybe that's you know, a foundational thing he wants to build on.
- 3:18[SPEAKER_00]: But they're doing a lot of work trying to do that.
- 3:20[SPEAKER_00]: Get into their blocks to move people to do good zone blocking technique.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_00]: But this is the first day where I really saw a lot of pass blocking work done.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_00]: It was probably 2-3rds of I'd say of what they did today.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_00]: Lamar Jackson, I kind of another tough day today, two interceptions, there were some plus plays as well, too, and I'll get to them in just a second.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_00]: You threw some nice balls to Rashad Beatman early in practice.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_00]: He hit Lejante, Western several times, Western by the way, big day today, really making
- 3:52[SPEAKER_00]: good advantage of the fact that safe flourist was out.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_00]: And he had a chance to play with Lamar Jackson.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_00]: I think this is very good bonding time for the two of them.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_00]: And they definitely had a connection today that was working out.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_00]: Jackson was intercepted by David Ola Jiga.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_00]: It was a defensive lineman in the first 11 on 11 period, a big boy interception.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_00]: He dropped just a few steps into coverage and Lamar got hit him in the belly with the ball.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_00]: Older Jigger ran it back, then he fumbled, Roger Rosengarten force that, and the office got the ball back, but it was still an interception that Lamars probably got to have the field vision to see and not give up.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_00]: And then late in practice, he was intercepted by Nate Wiggins, good play by Wiggins in 707.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_00]: You don't see a lot of 7 on 7 interceptions, but he made a play, and I think it was about 15 yards down the right side line, or near the right side line.
- 4:43[SPEAKER_00]: on that play.
- 4:43[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, I don't know that we're really concerned about Jackson.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_00]: His ball seemed to have better touch today in terms of some of the balls he threw with the dice up and down ball of beatman.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_00]: He wasn't tested in the same way on some of the deep balls where he'd been coming up short so far in camp, so that had been a concern, but didn't really see that repeated self today.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_00]: go through some extended 11 on 11 highlights and it looked like they did more 11 on 11 today to take advantage maybe the fact that they're in pads when they're not in pads you know it the 11 on 11 reps don't have the same kind of meaning to them when they are they mean a lot and so you probably don't want to use 7 on 7 on a padded practice where you can do 11 on 11 so they did more of that.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_00]: So the first was David Oligega to get his name's going to mention a couple
- 5:34[SPEAKER_00]: In the back field for what a what a bit of a TFL not you didn't actually take them down or tackle them to the ground.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_00]: I don't believe they're doing that At least I didn't see it happen a couple players got knocked down, but not not not tackling to the ground
- 5:48[SPEAKER_00]: Then see, saw Lamar complete a 10 yard pass by the left side line, the beatman, a beautiful up and down throw over Rhoquant Smith and good touch pass there for Jackson, just to see a burst in a level two on a run right, we saw Jackson through a 20 yard ball.
- 6:04[SPEAKER_00]: It was between the numbers and the right hash, it was for Bateman, but Wiggins had a near PD, sorry, a PD and a near I&T coming up on the football, so nice play by Wiggins again on that very tight window there for Lamar to squeeze the ball in.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_00]: So Jackson's scramble left from jailbreak pressure and I think that was a run play here, but actually it almost seems like I've written that and I haven't completed this sentence.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_00]: So I'll just say there was a jailbreak pressure.
- 6:32[SPEAKER_00]: Jackson, scramble to the left, I believe you through the ball going out of that.
- 6:37[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, Jacobi Lane then.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_00]: made the play of camp to date and you may have seen it already on Twitter the videos out there the Ravens have certainly released it but he was being covered about 15 yards down the right sideline by Nate Wiggins Jackson through him ball and he stabbed back with one hand to catch the ball and pulled it in amazingly we're all waiting for the ball if you know
- 7:02[SPEAKER_00]: Roll loose somehow at the end of this place.
- 7:04[SPEAKER_00]: I'm out of still got it.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_00]: Crowd went absolutely bananas when he hit the ground and easily the play of camp to date.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_00]: And it would be kind of between a couple of Jacobi Lane plays.
- 7:15[SPEAKER_00]: He had an earlier play where he, you know, skyed up in the middle of the field to get the football.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_00]: It showed off of that great leaping ability.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_00]: And this was really more of a hands play.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_00]: This definitely, I had given some estimates of how many targets I think each of the receivers got.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_00]: I'd be changing that right now to say that I think Jacobi Lane is going to be a more significant part of the Ravens offense as a rookie here and perhaps more so than Tez Walker, we'll see how that snaps and targets get allocated, but Jacobi Lane looks like the real deal and I think that Jackson is going to try to incorporate him in a number of ways in the offense.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_00]: All right, we then saw Jackson complete a 15 yard pass to La Jante Wester with Wiggins again in coverage that Tyler Huntley through one of the really beautiful balls of camp so far a 40 yard completion to Tez Walker down the right sideline unlike a lot of the other throws some of them from Lamar earlier in camp this ball was not under thrown in fact he laid it out there.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_00]: probably with extra juice on it given all the underthers we've seen to walk or so far and walk a ran under the ball really outstretched to make the catch, be sure good hands, you know, pulling it in.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, it was one of the first times they really seen to happen.
- 8:27[SPEAKER_00]: Hopefully that's a teaching moment for all the quarterbacks to say, wait a minute, that's Ted's throw it five more yards kind of thing and he'll go get it in.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_00]: You know, that's, it's really nice to see a Tyler locking on that and make that play.
- 8:42[SPEAKER_00]: So Adam Randall run middle, he went down, he appeared like he was trying to truck Jay Higgins and he in fact was the one who went to the ground and we see an Adam Randall run over some people in Campsofar but this one went to Higgins.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_00]: Ethan Burke who's been a pretty darn good outside linebacker so far, beat Jared, licked an hand outside for a pressure that forced Huntley to scramble right so nice play by him.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_00]: Huntley escaped the pocket left, he threw a
- 9:12[SPEAKER_00]: Towards the left side of the field outside the numbers in the end zone, and both Keon Martin and TJ Tampa were fairly close in coverage, but Huntley led him well away from those two, and Gillery reached out to make a nice grab for the touchdown.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_00]: Jackson was back on next again, he rolled left and hit Wester on an extended play 10 yards by the left side line.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_00]: He then threw for Gillary and Humphrey was flagged for either a DPI or DH, not sure what they did it for, but obviously the flag came out.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_00]: We saw that.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_00]: Then we had Jackson's throw over the middle that was intercepted by Ola Jiga, I talked about that earlier, but Ola Jiga returned it and he was then stripped by Roger Rosengarten,
- 9:56[SPEAKER_00]: So Mike Green have a pressure to force Huntley on a scramble right Huntley then through incomplete to hybner.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not sure if hybner dropped the pass or he was actually stripped by Tampa, but it looked like Tampa had a sand in on the play.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_00]: Tampa has been having a really nice camp by the way.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of plays on the football.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_00]: And Hibner, this has been an ongoing problem that he hasn't been able to secure the footballs easily.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_00]: And I think there's a couple things going on here.
- 10:21[SPEAKER_00]: One is, there's a lot of double catching.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_00]: There's been some balls knocked free.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_00]: And there's also been a problem that the angle he's catching the ball at and a lot of these short passes is probably not ideal to improve his chance to make a nice clean catch.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, the middle of the field, you probably have a better opportunity to focus on a ball coming in.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_00]: All right, Adam Randall had a fall start seem sheepish about getting back into his stance there, but he was up early, Huntley then overthrew Cornelius Johnson.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_00]: That was about 20 yards down the right sideline.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_00]: So, in a practice where he hit his right on the money overthrew Cornelius.
- 11:02[SPEAKER_00]: just by a few yards there as well.
- 11:04[SPEAKER_00]: Aaron Graves beat Ethan Posek.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_00]: It looked like it was Posek by the way.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_00]: It could have also been the second team right guard as well, but in either way he was in for a pressure as Thompson threw the ball away.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_00]: Thompson then threw a pass about 10 yards between the numbers and the left hash.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_00]: that was intercepted by or Rory A.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_00]: And he appeared to step in on a pass intended for Titan, Mike Petzza.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_00]: He looked like he either just got in front of it or even he kind of stripped the ball as he ran by Petzza.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_00]: So either way, impressive interception by Orory A, finding the spot and taking the ball away.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_00]: The last 11 on 11 note I have is for David.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_00]: oligga again, knocking down a screen pass in the backfield.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_00]: So the guy was all over the field today, number 65 on the defensive line.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_00]: Ravens have a very old defensive line.
- 12:02[SPEAKER_00]: They already are having trouble making room for a couple draft picks of the last two years, specifically Peoples and Benny.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_00]: Chris C. J.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_00]: A. Koye got lots of playing time last year about 200 snaps.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_00]: He's looking like he's on the outside looking at him.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_00]: David Olajiga.
- 12:16[SPEAKER_00]: Boy is he played some great balls so far.
- 12:19[SPEAKER_00]: Would make a great player at the top of the practice squad.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's certainly a guy you can get excited about having on game day as an elevation at some point.
- 12:28[SPEAKER_00]: But I wonder about whether or not he'll stay around if the ravens do cut him.
- 12:34[SPEAKER_00]: Alright, a few seven on seven highlights, Jackson through a 15-yard pass, a rip-a-between the numbers for Jacobi Lane that was intercepted by Wiggins.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_00]: Wiggins took a very hard hit on that play from G-Lin Hawkins, by the way, the second collision of camp so far that is involved Hawkins and Wiggins.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_00]: And something's got to be said, I mean, I would think anyway.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_00]: And interestingly enough, both of them were the podium after the time.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_00]: Now, we can's got up slowly, left the field kind of slowly, but he did return.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, no harm done, but you can't wait until something really terrible does happen when you're start players to have that talk with Hawkins about taking care of your teammates in practice like this.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_00]: So Chidobia, Wusier deliver a past offense on a past middle for Elijah Serrat.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_00]: He was coming up on the play.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_00]: Key on Martin had a PD and coverage of gillery between the numbers on the left hash, Huntley through a 30 yard plus bomb to Legente Wester.
- 13:31[SPEAKER_00]: He was 10 plus yards behind a Wusier on the left sideline.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_00]: Not sure how that coverage broke down there, whether it was a
- 13:38[SPEAKER_00]: a fake or just, you know, was an unbelievable move by Western, which is possible, or that he was expecting help from the back side.
- 13:47[SPEAKER_00]: But didn't appear like anyone was really deeper than Luzia on the play.
- 13:51[SPEAKER_00]: So if he was expecting help on, you know, there wasn't anybody there to do that, to give that to him.
- 13:57[SPEAKER_00]: And another just fantastic day for Western, you know, getting some targets and making some plays.
- 14:03[SPEAKER_00]: He's still very good in camp.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_00]: I've heard people say they're talking about writing off, La Jante Wester, and I would not do that.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_00]: I think he'll be the sixth wide receiver.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think there's any chance to play it like Chris Morse, it takes his spot if it is conceivable that if there was an injury,
- 14:22[SPEAKER_00]: that Chris Moore could be on the team as the six-wide receiver on game day as activation because you need a special team's player but I don't I don't really see Chris Moore as being a threat to any of the receivers frankly that are on the on the big six all right we got more seven on seven action here we had a Skyler Thompson was intercepted by Mark Wies Robinson 15 yards by the right side I'm sorry Mark Wies forgetting your name wrong all these years I
- 14:49[SPEAKER_00]: You spelled the same way as Mark East Brown.
- 14:50[SPEAKER_00]: I apologize for getting it wrong, but I'll try and get it right.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_00]: It was a ball intended for Chris Moore by the right sideline 50 years.
- 14:57[SPEAKER_00]: I think I said that.
- 14:58[SPEAKER_00]: Thompson then completed a 10-yard out pattern to Cornelius Johnson.
- 15:02[SPEAKER_00]: Longer beam was in coverage on the play, and longer beam then stripped the football from Johnson and Matthew McDume recovered it by the right sideline.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_00]: So a great game, great name for Matthew McDume, by the way, but he got the turnover in that despite the fact,
- 15:18[SPEAKER_00]: that the rivets had allowed a reception on the play.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_00]: So nice, nice play there.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_00]: At a final set of one on one, so that consisted of three one on one pass reps and three more one on one pass rush reps.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_00]: So the three one on one pass reps were cave on Wallace was flagged for defense of holding on Matt Hibner.
- 15:38[SPEAKER_00]: Jackson then completed a 30 yard pass down the right
- 15:48[SPEAKER_00]: from Chandler Rivers, who was right there with him, obviously.
- 15:52[SPEAKER_00]: And Sarat put his hands up late.
- 15:54[SPEAKER_00]: Rivers had not yet found the football ball dropped right into his bread basket, but obviously really good receiving instincts there by Sarat to not show the ball to rivers by his hand movement to early and made a beautiful catch on that play.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_00]: In terms of the past rush reps, we saw Carson Vincent stand up Zion, young and a one-on-one past rush.
- 16:17[SPEAKER_00]: Now, he's, he got beat on a one-on-one past rush rep by young the day before, really a tough bull rush that he put it on him.
- 16:27[SPEAKER_00]: But this was a nice play.
- 16:29[SPEAKER_00]: Young did not like being controlled in that matter.
- 16:31[SPEAKER_00]: He kind of gave him a little shove after the play, but he, uh, it, uh,
- 16:34[SPEAKER_00]: really good play by Carson Vincent.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_00]: Then we saw Emery Jones give up ground slowly to Ration Benny.
- 16:41[SPEAKER_00]: And this kind of like an advantage of Jones' play.
- 16:44[SPEAKER_00]: I'd say that Jones, you know, gets a B on the rep or, you know, you know, scale one to five.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_00]: He would get two on the rep, whereas Vincent got a one on the rep versus Jones, brought a Washington kind of a similar thing.
- 16:56[SPEAKER_00]: He pulled
- 16:57[SPEAKER_00]: Danny Pinter for what looked to be a pressure is kind of a slow developing pressure again maybe a two for broader Washington on on that scale so uh uh the defense uh um you know really only did one out of three versus the offense in that group so I think pretty good showing by the offense in these one-on-one drills.
- 17:16[SPEAKER_00]: I asked mentor about this during the interviews and he said he asked me with some sort of a you know challenge or a game that they were doing and
- 17:24[SPEAKER_00]: He said that it was just an opportunity to get some one-on-one reps and have individuals from each side play.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_00]: So I think that's the answer was yes, it kind of was a challenge and a best when the best is needed.
- 17:35[SPEAKER_00]: One thing he did say is they gave him situations that they would think about in those cases.
- 17:41[SPEAKER_00]: So that was interesting and then they have to really work on, you know, okay, it's okay for me to give him five yard completion and then make a tackle.
- 17:48[SPEAKER_00]: It's not okay for me to give up a ten yard completion kind of thing and apparently each of them had something they were working on with that.
- 17:55[SPEAKER_00]: Stars on offense today, we'll go with Jacobi Lane, the catch of camp so far.
- 18:00[SPEAKER_00]: If he didn't have a big receiving day in total, and one of the other passes that was intended for him was intercepted, but that catch was the catch of camp to date.
- 18:10[SPEAKER_00]: I'd say Lajante Wester is my next guy.
- 18:13[SPEAKER_00]: He would be probably the number one guy, honestly, of the offense.
- 18:16[SPEAKER_00]: I definitely made the most of his points.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_00]: I've had about three different catches, and they were catches where he was,
- 18:23[SPEAKER_00]: had significant yak on those plays.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_00]: So, uh, Western guy who could definitely figure into the offense somehow.
- 18:29[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, they've got a lot of receiving targets here, um, receiving threats, and they have to somehow translate that into targets.
- 18:36[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, and it'll be interesting to see how they do that.
- 18:38[SPEAKER_00]: We saw Venge, you want to look very effective as a past protector, and I give one to Roger Rosengarten as well.
- 18:44[SPEAKER_00]: He had after Ola Jiggas Interception,
- 18:47[SPEAKER_00]: He had a forced fumble to get the ball back for the offense that is a big play anyway you look at it.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_00]: The stars on defense no doubt about it David Olegiga made plays all the day.
- 18:57[SPEAKER_00]: Interception, a past offense on a screen.
- 18:59[SPEAKER_00]: I tack up a loss of Derek Henry on a run play.
- 19:01[SPEAKER_00]: So he filled up the stat sheet today and he'd be an extended treatment player.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_00]: If this were a regular season game that I was talking about it, but very good play there.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_00]: Nate Wiggins, the airception, a past offense.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_00]: He was also beaten a couple of times, but that's okay.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_00]: You don't have to win them all as a corner back.
- 19:20[SPEAKER_00]: He had to have a closer mentality and he had a great productive ball skill day today.
- 19:27[SPEAKER_00]: And then also Marquise Robinson and sorry Marquise Robinson, it's going to take a long time to break that habit I can tell.
- 19:34[SPEAKER_00]: And Amane or Rauaria had intersections, and I'm going to give one also for longer being the way the force fumble after you gave up her section.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_00]: So it's a nice play from those defensive backs on the defense as well.
- 19:46[SPEAKER_00]: The podium we had Jesse Minter got lots of Zay questions to start, so he talked about how hard Zay was to prepare for as an opponent when he was with the chargers, and obviously everybody was very happy for Zay, and he talked about why he held about a practice because he didn't really want him practicing right after he'd signed the contract, and you
- 20:09[SPEAKER_00]: what he might be thinking about after a high like that.
- 20:14[SPEAKER_00]: He was asked an interesting question about Jeff's Rebek and it's how he felt about training camp fights.
- 20:19[SPEAKER_00]: That's particularly appropriate right now when practices are first starting to get into pads.
- 20:24[SPEAKER_00]: When you do that, that's when tempers flare.
- 20:26[SPEAKER_00]: The next time that's a very key, gate point is when they have,
- 20:31[SPEAKER_00]: joint practices.
- 20:32[SPEAKER_00]: They've got to really watch that because they hate each other and they're they're trying to win every rep they're not trying to take care of their player opposite them and you need to be really careful about that.
- 20:42[SPEAKER_00]: He said
- 20:44[SPEAKER_00]: kind of took a ground that was not as as percony and about it as you might you might say just look I don't want my guys pushing each other right even but he said there's a level of of competitiveness that is kind of naturally said but if you throw a punch if it's anything you get thrown out of a football game for then you don't want it.
- 21:01[SPEAKER_00]: So I think it's a good stance to have about that and yeah I think the ravens have had
- 21:08[SPEAKER_00]: I won't say a policy, but they've had a certain tolerance for fights in the past during the horrible era, and maybe even during the billock era where a fight is not necessarily the worst thing, as long as it only gets hurt, which by the way, you can never guarantee when a fight breaks out, but they kind of like to see the competitiveness.
- 21:30[SPEAKER_00]: They like to see and us versus them kind of thing, and they almost want to build on that.
- 21:35[SPEAKER_00]: and help a defense bot or an offense bot together.
- 21:40[SPEAKER_00]: All right, Mike Dickens was at the podium.
- 21:42[SPEAKER_00]: Next, he praised Jesse Minter.
- 21:43[SPEAKER_00]: Talked about how happy he was for the opportunity, both with him and the organization.
- 21:48[SPEAKER_00]: He said, Minter did not have to sell him on this opportunity, which is good to hear.
- 21:53[SPEAKER_00]: I asked a question about technique.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_00]: He said technique is what gets you over the hump when talent is equal.
- 21:59[SPEAKER_00]: It seems to be very much a kind of a fundamentals teacher that if you're building blocks of there for fundamentals, then you can bring them into play when you need to.
- 22:09[SPEAKER_00]: I like that as someone who really loves, first principles, and a lot of things, I really like the notion that you coach technique as opposed to coaching a particular scheme, which can be like kind of putting up the 37th floor of a building before you built the foundation.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_00]: kind of thing.
- 22:27[SPEAKER_00]: So you got to understand your players know how they're going to get in a position before you tell them that this is the position you need to be in on this particular scheme and by the way, we have 324 of these.
- 22:38[SPEAKER_00]: So anyway, I think he'll be very good for developing some of these young defensive backs that are on the team now.
- 22:45[SPEAKER_00]: He was asked about 2025 Marlon Humphrey and what he'd like to see him do better effectively and he wouldn't pick anything out.
- 22:53[SPEAKER_00]: He wouldn't pick out specific elements.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_00]: He wants to give out, he just wanted to praise Marlon Humphrey.
- 22:57[SPEAKER_00]: And so we'll see how that relates.
- 22:59[SPEAKER_00]: It's probably just prudent to use coach speak in that situation.
- 23:04[SPEAKER_00]: But if Mickon doesn't really have an idea of what Neenie's to improve about Marlon Humphrey from last year, whether or not he can actually enact it.
- 23:11[SPEAKER_00]: then that would be bad.
- 23:12[SPEAKER_00]: But I don't think that's a case.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_00]: You hear him talk.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_00]: He seems to be a real real football coach, his football coach.
- 23:20[SPEAKER_00]: Somebody who is clearly very much loves the game, and in fact, he loves to teach it from first principles.
- 23:26[SPEAKER_00]: It reminds me of maybe a Jodie in a way a guy who taught offensive line from first principles very much.
- 23:33[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, we've already heard from Hamilton or than camp, he's not an install king, so to speak.
- 23:39[SPEAKER_00]: And there are other people in the team who can do that.
- 23:41[SPEAKER_00]: Midterm could do it and just the way that Joe D could have somebody else install a run game scheme using the building blocks that he would teach offensive line.
- 23:55[SPEAKER_00]: All right, Jalen Hawkins was next to the podium.
- 23:57[SPEAKER_00]: He praised Hamilton and Stark separately.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_00]: Basically, I've got to say a question about each of them in terms of the best safety in the game.
- 24:04[SPEAKER_00]: And then, Hamilton had said, Stark's is going to be the best safety in the game.
- 24:07[SPEAKER_00]: And he said, yeah, they're both great kind of thing.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_00]: Didn't expect anything to come to that differently.
- 24:12[SPEAKER_00]: He said that the playoff run in 2025 had made him a hungrier.
- 24:16[SPEAKER_00]: And he said about pre-stab communication, there's just something he's always done.
- 24:20[SPEAKER_00]: It was something Hamilton had pointed out earlier
- 24:25[SPEAKER_00]: a lot of people in defense speak up, but he, the single-out, Jalen Hawkins is a guy.
- 24:31[SPEAKER_00]: By the way, I think it's really important that your free safety is one of the loud guys' three or four major positions I would point to.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_00]: I want, I want the Mike Linebacker doing because he's right in the heart of the defense.
- 24:42[SPEAKER_00]: I want both back-and-safety doing it, and then I want the slot corner doing it.
- 24:47[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think you're defensive linemen could do it.
- 24:49[SPEAKER_00]: I think they're worried about a lot of other things, and they have their back to most of the defense.
- 24:53[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think either corner back can do it on the outside.
- 24:56[SPEAKER_00]: It's just more difficult.
- 24:57[SPEAKER_00]: And I can communicate with the nickel on the strong side, but I don't think they can really do it normally.
- 25:02[SPEAKER_00]: And the weak side linebacker could be a communication sky, but I just don't think it's necessary.
- 25:07[SPEAKER_00]: It's the ideal guy to be making that communication.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_00]: So it's really, it's two safeties and it's Ropequan and it's Hamilton on this team who ought to be doing the communication and the reorganization of the team and that post-player has a lot of responsibility, particularly if he's back there alone because he's the one who can see we're all ten.
- 25:28[SPEAKER_00]: Well, you can see all other 21 players at one time.
- 25:33[SPEAKER_00]: All right, Nate Wiggins, next at the podium, he said it just got the wind knocked out of him on the collision with Hawkins.
- 25:37[SPEAKER_00]: And by the way, no one asked a question.
- 25:39[SPEAKER_00]: I probably should have of, you know, this is the second time you guys have collided.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_00]: Is there anything these we said kind of thing, but that question did not come up.
- 25:47[SPEAKER_00]: He talked about what made Z-flowers a special receiver.
- 25:51[SPEAKER_00]: He said this to us.
- 25:52[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if they're really usually talk about this, but he said he had runesurgery this off season.
- 25:57[SPEAKER_00]: So the question was basically poised as he said he'd never really been 100% healthy as a pro.
- 26:07[SPEAKER_00]: And then he was asked about that again and he said, yeah, I just had surgery a couple of months ago and I feel great now.
- 26:15[SPEAKER_00]: It was growing surgery and rehab went fine everything supposedly.
- 26:18[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, he's playing well right now.
- 26:20[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if that's something that one of the PR people or perhaps mentor will tell him, hey, that's not something we talk about here, but.
- 26:27[SPEAKER_00]: You know, is what it is, and it's scary to think that a player like Nate Wiggins could be, you know, better and even more able to move around and get after it in the secondary.
- 26:40[SPEAKER_00]: He had an interesting kind of a contradiction in a couple of his answers.
- 26:46[SPEAKER_00]: The first that he said that the defense was essentially the same as it was with small tweaks, and basically as an observer, I would say that's probably true.
- 26:56[SPEAKER_00]: The derivatives play effectively the same positions and I think we're going to see a ton of big nickel this year.
- 27:01[SPEAKER_00]: I think that what mentor the background that mentor came from is similar.
- 27:05[SPEAKER_00]: I think what we'll see is maybe a little more changes in terms of how they disguise in terms of the past Russian whatnot.
- 27:11[SPEAKER_00]: But like I've said, I think I'm about 75% sure about what the defense will look like this year and I'm maybe about the 25% sure maybe at this point of what
- 27:24[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm going to be continually surprised, I think, on the offensive side, but on the defense, I am expected to be largely saying.
- 27:29[SPEAKER_00]: But anyway, after saying that the defense was a thing with their tweaks, he was asked a question about the new defense.
- 27:34[SPEAKER_00]: He said, yeah, it's a new defense.
- 27:36[SPEAKER_00]: So everybody has to relearn kind of thing.
- 27:38[SPEAKER_00]: I think the question was about Kyle Hamilton saying they had to unlearn some things about the old defense and, you know, so
- 27:46[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, I think in his own mind, the difference in those two answers is clear, but to the reporters there.
- 27:54[SPEAKER_00]: It's just kind of an interesting distinction there that he's saying it two different ways.
- 27:59[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, that'll do it for campus today.
- 28:00[SPEAKER_00]: I appreciate you as always, folks.
- 28:03[SPEAKER_00]: Please send your questions to film study mealbag at gmail.com.
- 28:06[SPEAKER_00]: If there's anything you'd like me to answer, either.
- 28:08[SPEAKER_00]: a video or or do a short with me if you'd like to.
- 28:11[SPEAKER_00]: I've had another good one coming up.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to show with cadre ishvail.
- 28:14[SPEAKER_00]: I hope this comes to pass.
- 28:16[SPEAKER_00]: Of course, we're going to talk about how we each watch camp when we do that.
- 28:20[SPEAKER_00]: So I think that'll be a fun show to do together.
- 28:23[SPEAKER_00]: We'll talk to you soon.
