- 0:08Speaker 1: Ooh, London. We know it's a little bit hot over
- 0:11Speaker 1: there at the moment. We know, in fact you're frying
- 0:13Speaker 1: and wondering that there's ever going to be any rain.
- 0:15Speaker 1: But you know what, it's going to get hotter for
- 0:17Speaker 1: you guys, because Poulse has stolen a little bit of
- 0:21Speaker 1: sunshine and a little bit of lightning and this has
- 0:24Speaker 1: got the netball world agog. This week you are on
- 0:27Speaker 1: No Dribble strapping. Hello and welcome to No Dribble, the
- 0:43Speaker 1: podcast where we talk about netball, we talk about so
- 0:45Speaker 1: much more. My name is Carolyn Swindell.
- 0:47Speaker 2: I'm Kath Cox, I'm lose us.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Look at Cath Cox and justin cameras and things. If
- 0:52Speaker 1: you don't know, we're now on YouTube, come and watch
- 0:54Speaker 1: us on YouTube and you can see Kathy justin mcamera.
- 0:57Speaker 2: I didn't do it very well.
- 0:58Speaker 1: That's what you did, a spectacle killer job.
- 1:01Speaker 3: I don't know what's different.
- 1:04Speaker 4: Well, probably nothing. I moved it and I moved it
- 1:06Speaker 4: too far, so I moved it back and just the
- 1:08Speaker 4: whole thing. It's the most exercise I have done in
- 1:10Speaker 4: three days though.
- 1:11Speaker 1: I'm just excited to have you back. And it's been
- 1:14Speaker 1: ages since the three of us have been together. In fact,
- 1:17Speaker 1: I think the last time was in Melbourne.
- 1:19Speaker 2: Drinking Yeah and having fun with the Dream Dreamgo, wasn't it.
- 1:24Speaker 1: Yeah, A lot has happened, Catherine. You're just back from holidays.
- 1:29Speaker 2: I know I haven't turned it on a bit.
- 1:31Speaker 4: These holidays, well off season and school holidays. It all
- 1:34Speaker 4: was nicely in sync for me. So we got home
- 1:36Speaker 4: from Queensland, I ditched the child for a couple of days,
- 1:39Speaker 4: worked at the Swans one night, which was great and
- 1:42Speaker 4: they lost. And then I've been up the Central Coast
- 1:45Speaker 4: with two other mums and four kids, all girls, so
- 1:50Speaker 4: I had a little girl's weekend away and it was
- 1:53Speaker 4: so fun. But my kid has come back so busted.
- 1:58Speaker 4: It is not funny. They get up there and they're
- 2:00Speaker 4: all over excited because we've been talking about it for ages,
- 2:05Speaker 4: and they're let loose together. So within five seconds she
- 2:09Speaker 4: had banged a head on a side table in the
- 2:12Speaker 4: bedroom because they were jumping up and down on beds.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Had she broken anyone's nose? No, touch Wood had not
- 2:18Speaker 1: at that point at that point no.
- 2:21Speaker 4: And then the next night actually came downstairs holding her
- 2:24Speaker 4: own nose that was bleeding. Ah, wasn't broken, but had
- 2:28Speaker 4: hit her nose again.
- 2:29Speaker 2: On the same freaking side table.
- 2:33Speaker 4: But she had also learned to ride a bike. So
- 2:35Speaker 4: city kid, there's too much traffic near our house, there's
- 2:38Speaker 4: too many hills. She's got a bike, she's never ridden it.
- 2:42Speaker 4: So we got up there and I was like, that's it,
- 2:44Speaker 4: this is happening. It's all flat, there's no cars. Got
- 2:47Speaker 4: her on a bike and she did really well. She
- 2:49Speaker 4: can ride it. But it just gave me flashbacks to
- 2:52Speaker 4: when I was a kid. Has taken all the skin
- 2:55Speaker 4: off of calves and a shins from the pedals.
- 2:58Speaker 1: Oh is she going fast? And she takes her feet
- 3:02Speaker 1: off the pedals and the.
- 3:04Speaker 4: Because you know, when you're teaching someone to ride, you
- 3:06Speaker 4: hold the bike to start with so they don't have
- 3:09Speaker 4: to worry about trying to get their feet on the
- 3:10Speaker 4: pedals because they're already on the pedals. But then when
- 3:12Speaker 4: she said, I want to do it myself constantly, so
- 3:17Speaker 4: her legs are so bruised, batter than Bruce. But I
- 3:19Speaker 4: said to her, God, back in our day, those things
- 3:21Speaker 4: were made from steel, Like we did serious damage.
- 3:24Speaker 2: Do you remember those She.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Got some sort of carbon fiber lightweight to a de
- 3:29Speaker 1: France thing.
- 3:30Speaker 4: It's nothing like that back in the day. And then
- 3:33Speaker 4: the other stupid thing she did. So we went for
- 3:35Speaker 4: a beach walk, finding cuttlefish everywhere. You know your average
- 3:38Speaker 4: size of cuttlefish you find at the beach. We found
- 3:40Speaker 4: one that was on steroids. It was probably five sizes bigger.
- 3:43Speaker 4: One of the other kids said, kick it, bare feet.
- 3:49Speaker 4: She kicked it and then cut her foot and was like,
- 3:53Speaker 4: toe was all bruised.
- 3:54Speaker 2: What is wrong with you?
- 3:56Speaker 1: So are these girls older than her?
- 3:58Speaker 2: No, these are like, well, one's a little bit older.
- 4:00Speaker 2: But it was just they just go crazy when they're together,
- 4:04Speaker 2: don't they.
- 4:04Speaker 1: Because I remember anyone who was two years older than
- 4:08Speaker 1: me was a god and I would do whatever they
- 4:11Speaker 1: asked me to do to my peril at times.
- 4:14Speaker 4: Yeah, you learn the hard way anyway. So she's covered
- 4:17Speaker 4: in bruises, but the happy kids and we're home and
- 4:19Speaker 4: I am now happy. Some vegetables and a big deep
- 4:23Speaker 4: breath for dinner.
- 4:25Speaker 1: Catherine has arrived at my house with a bag full
- 4:27Speaker 1: of vegetables that she's going to take home to address
- 4:30Speaker 1: her scurvy. I am friends with a comedian, a female
- 4:35Speaker 1: in her forties who has had scurvy twice.
- 4:38Speaker 3: I did not know it was to get not on
- 4:42Speaker 3: a ship.
- 4:43Speaker 1: By having an appalling diet.
- 4:46Speaker 2: So what does she eat?
- 4:49Speaker 1: Well, it's not very good balanced diet apparently, so, but
- 4:54Speaker 1: I love old beef.
- 4:57Speaker 2: Can you go?
- 4:58Speaker 1: Twice?
- 5:00Speaker 2: I'm just wondering how she poops? Let alone the.
- 5:02Speaker 1: Skivvy again episode, Second episode in a row, Second week
- 5:06Speaker 1: in a row, where we're starting with poop.
- 5:08Speaker 2: Yeah, tune in, everybody, Wow, straight to thee.
- 5:12Speaker 1: Something I discovered this week. Do you know what a
- 5:14Speaker 1: canker saw is? It's an American expression?
- 5:17Speaker 2: Well, I know what a cankel is?
- 5:18Speaker 1: No, a canker saw.
- 5:20Speaker 3: No, it's different.
- 5:21Speaker 1: It's a mouth ulcer. I didn't know that. I always
- 5:24Speaker 1: thought it was. I don't know what I thought it was,
- 5:25Speaker 1: but I've heard that expression from TV for years. And
- 5:28Speaker 1: then went, well, well let's have a look at what
- 5:30Speaker 1: this is. And it's a mouth ulcer. Oh okay, yeah,
- 5:33Speaker 1: smarter than I thought. Who knew?
- 5:34Speaker 5: Doesn't sound good?
- 5:36Speaker 4: Elizabeth put me to shame because I know you will
- 5:39Speaker 4: country kids. When are they learning to ride bikes? Your
- 5:41Speaker 4: kids have been riding since probably one or two?
- 5:44Speaker 3: Well, yeah, I reckon as you were telling that story.
- 5:47Speaker 3: I reckon. Austin was riding his pushy when he was
- 5:52Speaker 3: three or four. He's onto his motorbike. Man, that's the
- 5:54Speaker 3: next thing. That's the next thing for half of when
- 5:56Speaker 3: she comes up sing her on the back of.
- 5:57Speaker 2: The motorbike with him.
- 6:00Speaker 1: Been riding their bike since about.
- 6:01Speaker 2: Three or four.
- 6:02Speaker 3: Have you ever heard of a park?
- 6:07Speaker 2: Yes?
- 6:07Speaker 4: No, Well, now that she's onto it, the netball courts
- 6:10Speaker 4: are actually I tell.
- 6:12Speaker 1: You where he's great now that she's riding. Go out
- 6:14Speaker 1: to Sydney Olympic Park. It's this massive flat area. There's
- 6:18Speaker 1: so many interesting things to look at. There's not lots
- 6:21Speaker 1: of cars around and things. Take the bikes out there
- 6:23Speaker 1: on a weekend. It's great.
- 6:24Speaker 3: Yeah right, okay, t yeah anyway, yeah, bikes and scooteress.
- 6:29Speaker 3: But you know, my kids learned to ride early. So
- 6:31Speaker 3: Evylyn learned to ride I reckon when she was about
- 6:36Speaker 3: just before she started school. She got really proficient and
- 6:39Speaker 3: we bought a new bike and we said to her,
- 6:41Speaker 3: you can ride your bike down the hill to the
- 6:43Speaker 3: bus stop and I'll go with you. And so Catherine
- 6:48Speaker 3: is making that sound because she's seen our hill and
- 6:50Speaker 3: I am a really, I'm a shit mother. Because I
- 6:53Speaker 3: just don't think ahead.
- 6:54Speaker 5: Right.
- 6:54Speaker 3: Matthew would have said, no, we'll carry your bike to
- 6:57Speaker 3: the bottom of the hill and then you can ride along.
- 6:58Speaker 3: I was like, yeah, for you, I just use your brakes.
- 7:01Speaker 3: So I started to jog along, and I'd said to her,
- 7:04Speaker 3: just wait for me at the bottom of the hill.
- 7:05Speaker 3: I help meet you there. And my little beautiful blonde
- 7:10Speaker 3: five year old took off down the hill and she
- 7:14Speaker 3: started to gather speed, and I started to speed up.
- 7:17Speaker 3: She got to the last year, the last part of
- 7:19Speaker 3: the hill. It's a really steep pinch, and I just
- 7:22Speaker 3: had sang in this screen and she came. This little
- 7:27Speaker 3: person came running up with her hands out, so much
- 7:31Speaker 3: skin off her everywhere in her uniform and a helmet.
- 7:34Speaker 3: Say god, she was wearing a helmet or she would
- 7:36Speaker 3: have actually done a solf some awful damage. So she
- 7:40Speaker 3: was running up the driveway towards me, screaming she'd lost
- 7:44Speaker 3: so much skin, and it was like she was like
- 7:47Speaker 3: was like week four or week five of KINDI, and
- 7:49Speaker 3: she had to say hope for the full week and
- 7:50Speaker 3: I had to scrub all of the ash felt out
- 7:53Speaker 3: of her. And she's still got a piece of ash
- 7:55Speaker 3: felt in her hand, which she always points to it
- 7:59Speaker 3: and just like that's because you're a bad mum. So
- 8:01Speaker 3: it's still there, and then a few it's still there.
- 8:04Speaker 3: So that a few years later we bought her an
- 8:06Speaker 3: Austin scooters and he's always been so careful. Right at
- 8:09Speaker 3: this place. If you've ever been to Letex Head in
- 8:11Speaker 3: this northern New South Wales, it's called pat Morton look at.
- 8:14Speaker 3: And she just took off from the top and I
- 8:16Speaker 3: was like, Evelynne, come back, put your brains on. Next minute,
- 8:19Speaker 3: she gets all wobbly and she comes off and all
- 8:23Speaker 3: these people came running, so we came running down and
- 8:25Speaker 3: she's taken the skin off again. She would have been nine.
- 8:29Speaker 3: We had to pick her up and carry a bash
- 8:31Speaker 3: because she was so broken. She's broken her arm on
- 8:37Speaker 3: a trampoline like and then so we buy her a
- 8:40Speaker 3: ute to drive down to the front gate and.
- 8:43Speaker 4: Well, at least she's protected by that, like if if
- 8:45Speaker 4: that comes across padding around her.
- 8:49Speaker 3: Yeah, she ran into into a guide guardrail and a
- 8:52Speaker 3: fence or not the guardrail, she ran austrating post at
- 8:55Speaker 3: the front gate and I'm like anything and then so
- 8:58Speaker 3: now she's winging that we haven't taught her to the motorbike.
- 9:00Speaker 3: I'm like, you are never writing the motibikeike. You would
- 9:06Speaker 3: never ride a motorbike, never, never, never, So Catherine, that's
- 9:09Speaker 3: what I.
- 9:09Speaker 4: Was thinking when you started talking. It's not so much
- 9:12Speaker 4: the steepness of your heel, it's the it's the loose
- 9:15Speaker 4: gravel and stuff like that's dangerous yourself and then if
- 9:19Speaker 4: you do come off, My god.
- 9:22Speaker 1: So your two kids have quite different risk appetites, is
- 9:24Speaker 1: that right?
- 9:26Speaker 3: Very different? Austin's like his father and Evidence like a mother.
- 9:30Speaker 1: Isn't it interesting, Like it's just that hole that that
- 9:34Speaker 1: risk appetite comes from within them. It's not. It's not
- 9:37Speaker 1: really a.
- 9:38Speaker 2: Your kids are they different?
- 9:41Speaker 1: Ah? They take different sorts of risks. And let me
- 9:45Speaker 1: tell you, I have an eighteen year old son. Now
- 9:47Speaker 1: I'm not enjoying the risk taking that he thinks is
- 9:50Speaker 1: a great idea. But anyway, we're like, we'll get through it.
- 9:53Speaker 1: Everyone gets through it. Oh well, you know, use your imagination.
- 9:56Speaker 1: We can go to the pub whenever we want to.
- 9:58Speaker 1: Now we can pop up to the bottle shop whenever
- 10:01Speaker 1: we want so, and he's just about today he starts
- 10:03Speaker 1: his pre trial exam, so today. He's not even an
- 10:06Speaker 1: official school day yet. They don't go back until tomorrow,
- 10:09Speaker 1: doesn't even go until the day after that. But he
- 10:12Speaker 1: has pre trial exams today from one to three and
- 10:15Speaker 1: then six to nine. And it's like, oh, that really
- 10:18Speaker 1: sucks as a return to school after the school holidays,
- 10:20Speaker 1: doesn't it big time? Yeah, we dropped him back to
- 10:23Speaker 1: school today with all of his gear because he's a
- 10:26Speaker 1: border Now, I said, where's your doner? I didn't have
- 10:29Speaker 1: a doner with him, and it's like, okay, where's your blazer? Yeah,
- 10:32Speaker 1: it didn't have a blazer. So he'll come home soon
- 10:34Speaker 1: and between his exams and pick up some stuff and
- 10:37Speaker 1: I'll drive him back down again.
- 10:38Speaker 3: But lucky it's not a long way away.
- 10:41Speaker 1: Yeah, that's exactly right. But I've actually been watching some
- 10:46Speaker 1: soccer World Cup.
- 10:47Speaker 4: Oh yeah, I was so going for a penalty shootout.
- 10:52Speaker 2: We were so close to getting one. Wouldn't that have
- 10:54Speaker 2: been awesome? But how's the shots at goal? Did he see?
- 10:57Speaker 2: Towards the end of the game they put up attempts
- 10:59Speaker 2: at goal.
- 11:00Speaker 1: It's like teen to zip, yeah, twenty to zip in
- 11:03Speaker 1: the end. But you know, I have had and for
- 11:06Speaker 1: our English dribblers and I know that we do have
- 11:08Speaker 1: quite a lot of English dribblers and we love you.
- 11:10Speaker 1: I tried being an English sports fan for the first
- 11:13Speaker 1: time in my life. I think it lasted maybe about
- 11:16Speaker 1: one hundred and twenty minutes. It was at the back
- 11:18Speaker 1: end of the game that they won. Who was that with?
- 11:20Speaker 2: Oh, they smashed them for third and fourth?
- 11:22Speaker 1: No. No. And then I was an English sports fan
- 11:26Speaker 1: when they were playing against Argentina and then they lost,
- 11:29Speaker 1: and I thought, well, I've now had the full experience
- 11:31Speaker 1: of watching this, having hope, seeing something amazing, and then
- 11:36Speaker 1: having those hopes dashed and being disappointed that the team
- 11:39Speaker 1: I was supporting were bundled out. So I am now
- 11:43Speaker 1: a card carrying former English sports fan.
- 11:47Speaker 4: You know, you could have just been an Aussie sports
- 11:49Speaker 4: fan something like a World Cup.
- 11:51Speaker 1: Yeah, well that finishes a bit earlier, doesn't it. Forty
- 11:54Speaker 1: So I don't really care about the soccer, but the
- 11:57Speaker 1: Commonwealth Games are coming up. That's very exciting. We should
- 12:02Speaker 1: maybe take a little break and then come back and
- 12:04Speaker 1: talk about some netball. Okay, so I flagged this before
- 12:19Speaker 1: the show. I don't think we'll talk about the common Games.
- 12:22Speaker 1: We'll talk about that on Friday. I who saw this
- 12:25Speaker 1: one coming. Steph Fretwell coming out of retirement playing netball
- 12:30Speaker 1: in the UK for London Pulse.
- 12:33Speaker 5: What I love this.
- 12:35Speaker 2: Good honor.
- 12:36Speaker 4: Like she's clearly I'm not saying it's not a great league.
- 12:39Speaker 4: It's a great league. It's not as good as our league,
- 12:42Speaker 4: but I love the fact that she might be at
- 12:44Speaker 4: the stage of her life where she's retired from like
- 12:47Speaker 4: full on really you know, the toughest camp in the league.
- 12:49Speaker 4: She still wants to play a bit of netball, but
- 12:52Speaker 4: maybe wants to do a bit of travel.
- 12:53Speaker 2: You know, she's now got a baby.
- 12:55Speaker 4: She's going over there and spending a year, you know,
- 12:57Speaker 4: still having some fun, enjoying the sport that she loves,
- 13:00Speaker 4: but able to go and do bits and bobs around it.
- 13:02Speaker 2: Good honor. I love this.
- 13:04Speaker 1: Do you think this was on her Bengo card when
- 13:06Speaker 1: she retired? So we don't think there's any question that
- 13:10Speaker 1: she retired on her own terms? Do we like she
- 13:12Speaker 1: she chose the time of her retirement. Yeah, and then
- 13:19Speaker 1: very soon thereafter announced her pregnancy and has had a baby,
- 13:23Speaker 1: So like, do you think this is just an opportunity
- 13:26Speaker 1: that's come her way or has she just been starting
- 13:28Speaker 1: to get life back under control and think I really
- 13:30Speaker 1: miss Nepple.
- 13:32Speaker 4: I reckon England would have been smart, London would have
- 13:34Speaker 4: been smart to.
- 13:35Speaker 2: Ask the question.
- 13:36Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 13:37Speaker 4: Yeah, like if they had a shooting spot available and
- 13:40Speaker 4: she's only freshly retired obviously, because you know, a little
- 13:43Speaker 4: bit of training could be just as good as she
- 13:46Speaker 4: was when she finished, and they thought i'll give it
- 13:48Speaker 4: a cry, and she's considered it like you got to
- 13:51Speaker 4: ask the question, right.
- 13:52Speaker 3: Yeah, And she's a slightly shorter season than super Netble,
- 13:57Speaker 3: So I think that's appealing too. If you've you know,
- 13:59Speaker 3: if you've finish your international career and you finished up
- 14:03Speaker 3: with super Netball, as Katsman said, the ability to go
- 14:06Speaker 3: and live you know, London or somewhere like that is amazing. Yeah,
- 14:10Speaker 3: but that might not have to be at the same
- 14:13Speaker 3: level you're at, but you can still you still need
- 14:15Speaker 3: to be fit enough to compete, and I think that's
- 14:17Speaker 3: where she'll find herself. And it's yea a bit of
- 14:19Speaker 3: a shorter season mightible so played a partner too, It's exciting. Yeah.
- 14:23Speaker 4: So I mean we don't know who asked the question first,
- 14:26Speaker 4: if it was the club or if it was Steph
- 14:28Speaker 4: but it would it have been the same answer had
- 14:31Speaker 4: it been Team Bath.
- 14:32Speaker 2: Yeah that asked the questions, then.
- 14:34Speaker 1: Yeah, that's right. I think that the appeal of living
- 14:37Speaker 1: in London and I get like a bit of a
- 14:40Speaker 1: gap here, so I go over and old work for
- 14:42Speaker 1: a bit and play some netball and then at the
- 14:43Speaker 1: end of the season I'll go traveling around Europe or
- 14:46Speaker 1: doing whatever I do. Fantastic, Yeah, I hope we can
- 14:49Speaker 1: watch it.
- 14:50Speaker 2: I'm excited. I know there's a lot of Steph Fretwell
- 14:52Speaker 2: fans that are very excited one.
- 14:53Speaker 1: That news and is this a blueprint for stuff we're
- 14:56Speaker 1: going to be seeing with other Australian players perhaps moving
- 15:00Speaker 1: offshore more. I mean, I know we saw Sophie Fawns
- 15:03Speaker 1: go and do that, but she's at a very different
- 15:05Speaker 1: stage in her career. I think where she was like
- 15:07Speaker 1: I need the I need somewhere I'm going to be
- 15:10Speaker 1: getting more court time. So this for Sophie Fawns is
- 15:13Speaker 1: not not by any stretch of the imagination and end
- 15:16Speaker 1: of Korea move over to the UK. I would think
- 15:18Speaker 1: it is all about getting back into super netball on
- 15:21Speaker 1: her own terms at some stage. But I'm wondering that
- 15:24Speaker 1: we're going to be seeing, particularly because we're looking probably
- 15:27Speaker 1: next year after the World Cup at a number of retirements.
- 15:31Speaker 3: Right, there be a few people.
- 15:32Speaker 4: Jealous that it wasn't that sort of thing wasn't around
- 15:34Speaker 4: when we finished playing. Would have loved to have done
- 15:36Speaker 4: something like that for a minute. I mean, Gretel Boyd
- 15:38Speaker 4: has done similar not in the UK, but has gone
- 15:41Speaker 4: over to Malaysia.
- 15:43Speaker 2: Malaysia to play over there. And you know, again someone's
- 15:45Speaker 2: asked the question of her just come out of retirement.
- 15:48Speaker 1: Now Gretlter is not coming back to Australia. But this
- 15:51Speaker 1: seems to just be this endless talk about Gretel Boyder
- 15:54Speaker 1: coming back into.
- 15:55Speaker 2: We're trying to manifest it is that, okay?
- 15:58Speaker 1: Is that what we're trying to do?
- 16:00Speaker 2: I am I reckon everybody is why would you not?
- 16:04Speaker 4: But good on them? Like such a fantastic opportunity. You're
- 16:07Speaker 4: seeing cricket all the time because there's so many different
- 16:09Speaker 4: places in the world you can play in basketball, it
- 16:11Speaker 4: happens all the time across the world as well. I
- 16:14Speaker 4: love it that we've now got those opportunities.
- 16:17Speaker 3: She looks fit enough, she looks like she could, she
- 16:19Speaker 3: looks like she could step onto you the Super Netball
- 16:21Speaker 3: or the international court. I don't think that. It's more
- 16:25Speaker 3: like she's got three kids, where do you find time.
- 16:29Speaker 1: Yeah, maybe life's just a little bit easier for her
- 16:32Speaker 1: in Malaysia at the moment. But yes, Steph Frett, well
- 16:36Speaker 1: what twenty twenty seven. We are looking forward to seeing
- 16:38Speaker 1: you back on court. I know that lots of people
- 16:40Speaker 1: are very excited. I am certainly one of them. Last
- 16:44Speaker 1: week we talked a lot about Briany and we did
- 16:47Speaker 1: flag something that obviously, by the time the episode went
- 16:50Speaker 1: to air, was a well known fact. So Sodyla Nexsip
- 16:54Speaker 1: has been appointed as the head coach of the Swift,
- 16:57Speaker 1: so that we just need to flag that that has
- 17:00Speaker 1: happened in reality and we do know that. And congratulations Dylan,
- 17:04Speaker 1: And as a Swifts fan, I am wishing you every success.
- 17:09Speaker 1: I mean we're all wishing all the coaches' success, right.
- 17:12Speaker 1: The better they all go, the more entertaining the comp is.
- 17:14Speaker 1: So it's so exciting. But yeap, obviously that was a
- 17:18Speaker 1: bit of a glaring omission last week, but not at
- 17:20Speaker 1: the time.
- 17:21Speaker 5: That we recorded.
- 17:23Speaker 1: Before we go off our netball segment, I have a
- 17:25Speaker 1: win beneath our wings. And it's a quite kind of
- 17:28Speaker 1: a strange time to do this in the episode, but
- 17:32Speaker 1: it's important I think that we do it now, so
- 17:35Speaker 1: Key we Karen, Karen Blackall, she is just taking it
- 17:39Speaker 1: upon herself to organize get togethers of dribblers in Glasgow
- 17:45Speaker 1: at the Commonwealth Games. And she's doing it for there's
- 17:48Speaker 1: a Diamonds Roses match followed immediately by a Fern South
- 17:51Speaker 1: Africa match. And so if you're interested in this, you're
- 17:55Speaker 1: going to Dockyard Social on Sunday the twenty.
- 17:58Speaker 2: Six and wait, let me just write this because.
- 18:01Speaker 1: You'll be going there for love from the studios, will you? Yeah? So?
- 18:05Speaker 1: But Karen, thank you. That's wonderful. I'm so so jealous. Gord.
- 18:09Speaker 1: He's going to try to drop in, but I reckon
- 18:11Speaker 1: that she might be a little bit busy, but we
- 18:14Speaker 1: want to see plenty of photos and Karen Blackhall, this
- 18:17Speaker 1: is the spirit of the dribbler. This is what Bonnie
- 18:21Speaker 1: Tyler was talking about when we're holding out for a hero.
- 18:25Speaker 1: You are the wind beneath our wings in establishing this,
- 18:27Speaker 1: Karen Blackhall, do.
- 18:28Speaker 2: You know what we need Karen to do?
- 18:30Speaker 3: Though?
- 18:31Speaker 4: So when I got here Liz Carolyn showed me a
- 18:34Speaker 4: map of the world and on it all the countries
- 18:37Speaker 4: that no Dribble's been listened to it and.
- 18:39Speaker 2: There's a few that haven't been touched yet.
- 18:42Speaker 4: So I think, well, Karen is over there and she
- 18:44Speaker 4: can get her mitst on some international talent. There's a
- 18:49Speaker 4: few little white spaces she needs to go and recruit.
- 18:53Speaker 2: Yeah, don't you reckon?
- 18:54Speaker 5: I think.
- 18:56Speaker 1: Who are there are traveling?
- 18:57Speaker 2: So we don't find someone in Greenlands?
- 19:00Speaker 5: Greenland?
- 19:00Speaker 1: Can we tick off Greenland? But also Estonia, Lithuania and
- 19:05Speaker 1: Latvia surely are going to be going over there. Well,
- 19:10Speaker 1: we do have Iceland, we don't have Mongolia, we do
- 19:13Speaker 1: have Russia, we do have China. I think that if
- 19:16Speaker 1: anyone can listen to the podcast in North Korea, we
- 19:21Speaker 1: will find a good prize for you if you if
- 19:23Speaker 1: you can color in North Korea on the map for us.
- 19:26Speaker 1: So how we get this showing up on the platform
- 19:30Speaker 1: that we published the podcast on is you listen to
- 19:33Speaker 1: an episode of the podcast in that country and it
- 19:35Speaker 1: shows up there. So don't VPN it or do any
- 19:37Speaker 1: of that fancy stuff that shows you somewhere. Obviously, the darker,
- 19:42Speaker 1: the more listens we have so most of it, most
- 19:44Speaker 1: of it is from Australia, New Zealand, UK. But you
- 19:48Speaker 1: know we've.
- 19:49Speaker 2: Got we can get.
- 19:50Speaker 1: What is this landlocked country in the middle of South America?
- 19:53Speaker 2: There that's weird, A little gap in the middle.
- 19:56Speaker 1: Wise landlocked Paraguay.
- 20:01Speaker 3: Why did you ask me that Olivia? Is it Bolivia?
- 20:07Speaker 1: I don't know Bolivia named Oliver just an outlast. So look,
- 20:13Speaker 1: there's still a few that we need to fill in.
- 20:15Speaker 1: There quite a number of countries that we need to
- 20:18Speaker 1: be getting heard in. But please, if you've got friends
- 20:22Speaker 1: in any of these countries, I'll put this map up
- 20:24Speaker 1: on the Facebook group let them know that they need
- 20:27Speaker 1: to listen to this because we want to be a
- 20:29Speaker 1: worldwide movement obviously, so.
- 20:32Speaker 2: And come on, Karen, get some recruiting there.
- 20:34Speaker 1: But Karen win, beneath our wings, there's a dodgy scrunchy
- 20:38Speaker 1: and a fifty dollar of Ala voucher here with your
- 20:41Speaker 1: name on it, because you are building communities where we
- 20:45Speaker 1: can't be and I love that, So thank you, Karen.
- 20:47Speaker 1: And again she's one of our fabulous ki We listeners
- 20:50Speaker 1: who we absolutely love. And I don't know, we may
- 20:54Speaker 1: have to fight in the final.
- 20:56Speaker 5: I'm not sure.
- 20:57Speaker 1: I mean they won't fight, but as supporters maybe will
- 21:00Speaker 1: need to.
- 21:00Speaker 2: Well, we need to do another catch up then so
- 21:02Speaker 2: we can all go fifty corps.
- 21:03Speaker 1: Yeah, I am looking into that. We're trying to find
- 21:05Speaker 1: our venue for our Constellation Cup Eve event on the
- 21:10Speaker 1: what do we say, twenty fourth of October here in Sydney.
- 21:14Speaker 1: So I want to see a lot of key.
- 21:15Speaker 4: Well, we can do one a little earlier, maybe in
- 21:17Speaker 4: the gold medal match too this common Wealth Games if.
- 21:19Speaker 1: Oh, well, like no, Alexi Prino is doing what well?
- 21:22Speaker 1: Because in Western Australia it's the first center passes at
- 21:26Speaker 1: a reasonable hour. It's like eight point thirty in the
- 21:28Speaker 1: evening or something. She is running an event, so jump
- 21:31Speaker 1: online if you want to go to that. It's like
- 21:33Speaker 1: ten o'clock ten third. No way, I'm leaving my house
- 21:36Speaker 1: at that hour.
- 21:37Speaker 2: So I'll think of you.
- 21:41Speaker 1: I really admire people who do want to go out
- 21:43Speaker 1: and watch the game, and you have my moral support.
- 21:46Speaker 1: But no, I'll be in pajamas and they probably won't
- 21:50Speaker 1: even be green and gold pajamas. But that is not
- 21:53Speaker 1: a reference to who I think is going to be playing.
- 21:55Speaker 1: It's just that I don't know inn green and gold pajamas.
- 21:58Speaker 2: But they will be playing.
- 21:59Speaker 1: Yeah, right, good, that's very exciting. Okay, well, why don't
- 22:02Speaker 1: we have a little break and we will come back.
- 22:04Speaker 5: For some more chat.
- 22:30Speaker 1: So something that is happening next week, and this is
- 22:34Speaker 1: not netball related, but I think it's important that we
- 22:36Speaker 1: talk about it. On Monday, the twenty seventh of July,
- 22:40Speaker 1: all mobile devices, phones, iPads, watches, whatever, are going to
- 22:46Speaker 1: have an alert at two o'clock that's Eastern Seaboard time.
- 22:49Speaker 1: So do your conversions for NT South Australia WA to
- 22:54Speaker 1: test the Australia's emergency warning system. Now most of us
- 22:59Speaker 1: will hear that and that won't be a problem. But
- 23:01Speaker 1: it's really important that we get this message out to anyone.
- 23:05Speaker 1: And this is particularly women who might have a device
- 23:10Speaker 1: that if they are in an unsafe relationship or an
- 23:13Speaker 1: abusive relationship, if you have a secret device there, you
- 23:17Speaker 1: need to put that phone onto airplane mode for a
- 23:21Speaker 1: couple of hours, either turn it off or put it
- 23:23Speaker 1: on airplane mode, because every phone is going to go off.
- 23:26Speaker 1: And the domestic violence experts in this country say that
- 23:29Speaker 1: it is not uncommon and it is predominantly women in
- 23:33Speaker 1: these positions, for women in these positions to have some
- 23:36Speaker 1: sort of device that they use for communicating with their
- 23:39Speaker 1: safe people or whatever. So you just have to be
- 23:42Speaker 1: mindful of that Monday, the twenty seventh of July. So
- 23:45Speaker 1: spread the word on that, put it on your social media,
- 23:48Speaker 1: anyone you know who might know. You know. Let's just
- 23:51Speaker 1: make sure that this great initiative to test our emergency
- 23:56Speaker 1: warning system doesn't actually put people in danger.
- 24:01Speaker 3: Can I just ask if you turn your phone off,
- 24:04Speaker 3: does it still be big?
- 24:06Speaker 1: I don't believe that if it is off or on
- 24:09Speaker 1: aeroplane mode that it won't make the sound. So but
- 24:13Speaker 1: people need to obviously go and go and look this
- 24:16Speaker 1: up yourselves and make sure you know what is required.
- 24:20Speaker 1: But aeroplane mode or off, I believe, are the two
- 24:23Speaker 1: modes that the phone can be in and you won't
- 24:26Speaker 1: get this emergency alert. And for everybody else, if your
- 24:29Speaker 1: alert goes off at two o'clock on Monday the twenty
- 24:31Speaker 1: seventh of July, don't worry. It's not armageddon. It's actually
- 24:35Speaker 1: just testing so that we're ready for armageddon when that happens.
- 24:39Speaker 3: I look, no, I'm thinking that when that happens and
- 24:42Speaker 3: my alarm goes off. That alert goes off. I think
- 24:44Speaker 3: it's depends down for the day, is it not? Are
- 24:46Speaker 3: you done? I'm done on Monday after two next week.
- 24:49Speaker 1: Absolutely, I think that's that's very recent though. We all
- 24:52Speaker 1: need to take it, take a deep breath. We've survived
- 24:56Speaker 1: the alert, we got through it together.
- 24:58Speaker 2: Maybe we can speak to some people and make it
- 25:00Speaker 2: one o'clock.
- 25:00Speaker 1: Then well, we're usually finished by two. I am this
- 25:07Speaker 1: Thursday night, though, which is not the twenty seventh July.
- 25:10Speaker 1: I think it's about the twenty third of July. I'm
- 25:12Speaker 1: doing a fundraiser at the Comedy Store for Women's and
- 25:14Speaker 1: Girls Emergency Center, so Dribbler's in Sydney if you want
- 25:17Speaker 1: to come along and see that. It is a sensational
- 25:19Speaker 1: lineup and all money goes to a very good cause.
- 25:22Speaker 1: And yeah, we should talk about something more cheerful now,
- 25:26Speaker 1: because domestic violence is a very sad reality of life.
- 25:29Speaker 1: But let's get a little bit peppier here, Catherine. I'm
- 25:33Speaker 1: looking to you.
- 25:34Speaker 2: I know, and I'm feeling an enormous amount of pressure.
- 25:37Speaker 5: Are you umm not.
- 25:43Speaker 1: Okay? Well, then over to me, obviously, to talk about
- 25:46Speaker 1: something hereful. As I said, I watched a little bit
- 25:48Speaker 1: of the Soccer World Cup, more interested in it than
- 25:50Speaker 1: I ever expected to be. But will now park that
- 25:52Speaker 1: for four years again until I become interested one more time.
- 25:55Speaker 1: But Lionel Messi leon Arl Messi, I'm not quite sure
- 25:59Speaker 1: how to pronounce, obviously legend of the game from Argentina.
- 26:02Speaker 1: I was thinking, God, how old is this guy? Looks
- 26:04Speaker 1: so much older than all of the other and the Argentinians,
- 26:07Speaker 1: My god, they're a handsome team. Lionel Messi was born
- 26:11Speaker 1: the year after I finished high school. So and I
- 26:15Speaker 1: know this because this Saturday night I have my forty
- 26:20Speaker 1: year high school reunion.
- 26:23Speaker 5: What who?
- 26:25Speaker 3: Who's organizing that?
- 26:27Speaker 1: Melinda?
- 26:28Speaker 3: Has Melinda kept everyone's phone numbers in contact demers?
- 26:31Speaker 2: It's got had to be Melinda.
- 26:33Speaker 1: No, well, I organized the last one. And well, so
- 26:36Speaker 1: have you been to Facebook's one? I've been to all
- 26:38Speaker 1: of them?
- 26:39Speaker 5: Have you?
- 26:40Speaker 1: I love them?
- 26:41Speaker 3: Now?
- 26:41Speaker 4: Tell me can you recognize people when you walk into
- 26:45Speaker 4: these rooms straight away because you've been to them regularly?
- 26:48Speaker 2: Do you reckon? You're all over the whole year group?
- 26:50Speaker 1: Most people there are one or two people though that
- 26:53Speaker 1: I still I just I can't I can't remember them,
- 26:58Speaker 1: like I, you know, and I meet them and I
- 27:01Speaker 1: know the name and this is me. It's yep, sorry,
- 27:05Speaker 1: don't know Elie.
- 27:06Speaker 2: Have you been to yours?
- 27:07Speaker 3: Well, I went to one, but then when I moved
- 27:10Speaker 3: out of Sydney, I just ye, and then like anyway,
- 27:13Speaker 3: I haven't been to them. But so I think, Catherine,
- 27:16Speaker 3: you and I've added ourselves as old because one I
- 27:18Speaker 3: was like, who still kept everyone's phone numbers? Like that's
- 27:21Speaker 3: what Facebook's for. You don't need to know how Facebook,
- 27:25Speaker 3: I'm pretty sure just for the records, do you still
- 27:28Speaker 3: recognize you? You're still like do you still recognize people? Well?
- 27:32Speaker 3: Their photos are on Facebook?
- 27:33Speaker 4: Like if I walked into my school reunion, I reckon
- 27:38Speaker 4: I would know my immediate friends that I hung out with, and.
- 27:41Speaker 2: I would have zero clue about anybody else.
- 27:46Speaker 1: That's interesting. So you haven't been to a lot of the.
- 27:48Speaker 4: Region, no, because they're always bloody when there's netball on
- 27:51Speaker 4: it's on a weekend and working the last one I
- 27:53Speaker 4: was a chance of going to and last minute I
- 27:56Speaker 4: couldn't get there.
- 27:57Speaker 2: I would love to go.
- 27:58Speaker 1: Well, I think this we got saved the date on this.
- 28:01Speaker 1: So there's a woman named Lisa, who I organized last
- 28:03Speaker 1: one with. I think she put a save the date
- 28:06Speaker 1: out eighteen months ago on this, which is terrific because
- 28:08Speaker 1: it's like, great, I know when it is, I will go.
- 28:11Speaker 1: I will be there for it. So it's in Brisbane,
- 28:13Speaker 1: I've got to travel up there. But yeah, I'm quite excited.
- 28:17Speaker 1: But it's also, what do you mean forty? And I
- 28:20Speaker 1: think that's what I'm going to be saying all nights.
- 28:22Speaker 5: What do you mean forty?
- 28:23Speaker 3: Oh my god? Yes, So did you go to a
- 28:26Speaker 3: girls school or a boys school or co eds boys school?
- 28:30Speaker 3: You go girls? Or so you went to a girls school? Yeah,
- 28:33Speaker 3: this is this is an observation that won't apply to you.
- 28:36Speaker 3: I did go to my maybe ten year one for
- 28:41Speaker 3: me twelve, and I ended up flirting with the same
- 28:45Speaker 3: boys that I flirted with in high school. And I
- 28:47Speaker 3: was like, I didn't know in high school for something
- 28:49Speaker 3: to do to pass the time. I'm out done.
- 28:53Speaker 2: Well, but that I'll be born in the house.
- 28:55Speaker 3: There's no points, yeah exactly, Like that's just yeah. Anyway,
- 28:59Speaker 3: the girls who I was friends with I'm still friends
- 29:02Speaker 3: with from school, so I'm like I still see the
- 29:03Speaker 3: people I want to see, and I don't know. It's funny,
- 29:07Speaker 3: isn't it.
- 29:07Speaker 1: Well, See, that's the thing. I still see the people
- 29:09Speaker 1: who I really want to see. I had my best
- 29:12Speaker 1: friend from high school who lives in Adelaide now. She
- 29:14Speaker 1: and her husband came over for dinner recently, so I
- 29:16Speaker 1: still see those people. But what I love about is
- 29:19Speaker 1: seeing the people who you just don't have time to
- 29:21Speaker 1: keep up with and go, God, that's you know, I
- 29:24Speaker 1: don't really know what's going on with you. A lot
- 29:26Speaker 1: of us are connected on Facebook, so we know a
- 29:28Speaker 1: little bit about one another's lives. But that's my favorite
- 29:31Speaker 1: part of it, is not talking to the people who
- 29:33Speaker 1: i'm I'm still friends with and look, here's something that's
- 29:36Speaker 1: going to surprise everyone. I usually get a teensy bit
- 29:39Speaker 1: excited and drink a lot and then make an ass
- 29:42Speaker 1: of myself.
- 29:44Speaker 4: I was going to actually ask you if you drink
- 29:47Speaker 4: at these things because I recognize.
- 29:49Speaker 1: Let's all sing the school song together, girls.
- 29:53Speaker 2: You did not do that.
- 29:54Speaker 1: Last time we did. We were at a pub singing
- 29:57Speaker 1: our school hymn, which is though God, our helping agent.
- 30:00Speaker 2: I can't even remember the school him, But.
- 30:02Speaker 1: Is it not ingrained? Didn't you know?
- 30:06Speaker 2: When did you have a school song.
- 30:07Speaker 3: Later, Catherine, you had to turn up regularly. Didn't remember
- 30:10Speaker 3: the school him.
- 30:14Speaker 4: Listen, there was only a few days I wagged school.
- 30:18Speaker 2: Not many.
- 30:19Speaker 4: One of them actually went to the it's a funny story, unrelated.
- 30:22Speaker 4: One of them actually went to the beach. So our
- 30:24Speaker 4: school uniform was blazer kilt stocking as the works.
- 30:27Speaker 5: One of them.
- 30:28Speaker 4: I went to the beach and my mum later on
- 30:30Speaker 4: that week goes, how many your legs burnt? And I said, oh,
- 30:34Speaker 4: my stocking ripped at school, and so then I had
- 30:37Speaker 4: to kind of just take them off, and I was lying,
- 30:39Speaker 4: and then just like, oh my god, never got caught touchwood.
- 30:44Speaker 2: I have now though, haven't I.
- 30:45Speaker 1: So the lesson is, if you're going to wag school
- 30:48Speaker 1: wear sunscreen, yes, yep.
- 30:50Speaker 3: That's true. But I was going to say, Catherine, now
- 30:52Speaker 3: that you're a mother and you know you told that
- 30:54Speaker 3: bullshit line of Fronci, she clearly didn't believe you, but
- 30:58Speaker 3: just thought, I can't even bother with the argument. At
- 31:00Speaker 3: the time you think you've gotten away with it, you
- 31:01Speaker 3: haven't gotten away with it. Your Mum's just like, oh,
- 31:04Speaker 3: I'll just save that for when I need it.
- 31:06Speaker 1: All you've done is given your mother plausible deniability, she
- 31:09Speaker 1: can go, you know what, that's close enough to a
- 31:11Speaker 1: believable story that I don't have to ask any more questions,
- 31:14Speaker 1: and I can say that I've discharged my responsibility.
- 31:17Speaker 4: And we also nailed the signatures to forge her signature
- 31:20Speaker 4: all the time on the absentee notes.
- 31:23Speaker 3: Did you Yeah, that's very naughty but funny. But now
- 31:27Speaker 3: you can't do it right because now everything comes into
- 31:29Speaker 3: the app right, can you can? Your daughter is not
- 31:32Speaker 3: at school, like I'd hate to be a kid these days,
- 31:35Speaker 3: trying to get away with stuff.
- 31:36Speaker 2: I don't know, how do you be naughty? I mean,
- 31:38Speaker 2: let's not give anyone any ideas, particularly our children.
- 31:41Speaker 1: But I will tell you I am not the person
- 31:43Speaker 1: to ask how to break rules. I am so even
- 31:47Speaker 1: through high school, I wagged one day of high school.
- 31:50Speaker 1: It was the second last day of year nine. So
- 31:54Speaker 1: my friend and I went, well, they won't be chasing
- 31:57Speaker 1: notes at that time of year. We don't want to
- 31:58Speaker 1: miss the last day because stays really fun. So we
- 32:01Speaker 1: were super strategic about it. It's like, you know, and
- 32:04Speaker 1: what did we do? We went to Indrapilli shopping town,
- 32:06Speaker 1: like you know.
- 32:07Speaker 2: Freaking the whole time, so this is it's just.
- 32:10Speaker 1: It's not in my nature. It's like, well, if you'd
- 32:13Speaker 1: meant to be at school, then you go to school
- 32:14Speaker 1: and you wear the uniform the way it's meant.
- 32:17Speaker 4: To be worn, well you've made up for it. You'll
- 32:20Speaker 4: get blind, drunk and sing hymns.
- 32:22Speaker 1: That's why it was so exciting to do that lap
- 32:24Speaker 1: around the court after the grand final, because it's such
- 32:26Speaker 1: an unmean thing to do, to just think, just just
- 32:30Speaker 1: do it and don't look back. But yet we our school.
- 32:35Speaker 1: The school captain who was elected by us that year,
- 32:39Speaker 1: a lovely lady named Jane. Jane is a much quieter
- 32:42Speaker 1: personality than I am, but we still make Jane make
- 32:44Speaker 1: a speech every year because it's like, well, school captain
- 32:47Speaker 1: is a job for life, obviously, and she hates it.
- 32:50Speaker 1: But like last time at our thirty year reunion, she
- 32:54Speaker 1: talked about how she didn't want to be making a speech,
- 32:56Speaker 1: but that she had been forced into it, bullied into it. Yes,
- 33:01Speaker 1: that's right, and she said, but it's interesting to reflect
- 33:04Speaker 1: on us. We actually don't know each other, but we
- 33:07Speaker 1: all have more in common now than we did when
- 33:10Speaker 1: we were at school together. And it's so true, like
- 33:13Speaker 1: there's so many that all of those kind of weird
- 33:17Speaker 1: sorts of that group, this group, whatever, it all just
- 33:20Speaker 1: becomes completely irrelevant. And it's there's one person who I
- 33:26Speaker 1: don't know why, but she doesn't like me. Now I'm
- 33:29Speaker 1: not everyone's cup of tea.
- 33:30Speaker 3: But it's like start like her spoke, I never liked her.
- 33:35Speaker 3: I never liked her either, really.
- 33:37Speaker 1: But it's like we left school in nineteen eighty six.
- 33:41Speaker 2: No, but you need to ask it on the weekend.
- 33:43Speaker 1: Well, she usually doesn't come to the reunion, so I
- 33:46Speaker 1: want to know. Yeah, yeah, I don't. Yeah, it's weird
- 33:48Speaker 1: though it's like forty years like what I was annoying,
- 33:54Speaker 1: but I wasn't mean or anything, so you know, I
- 33:57Speaker 1: wasn't a fundamentally different person to what I am now.
- 34:00Speaker 1: It was just sort of like a bit loud. But yeah,
- 34:04Speaker 1: so why what can annoy you for four years? So
- 34:07Speaker 1: I'll report back after that, Yes, coming, and will she
- 34:13Speaker 1: speak to me? Who knows exciting? Yes, So that's that's me.
- 34:21Speaker 3: If you tube punched on in the car park afterwards,
- 34:23Speaker 3: can you please make sure there's video because we want to.
- 34:26Speaker 1: See it absolutely absolutely. I've been working, Yes, you know that.
- 34:31Speaker 2: Yeah, I wouldn't take you.
- 34:33Speaker 1: Okay, so that's going to be my there's still a
- 34:35Speaker 1: few days away though, we've still got another episode to go.
- 34:37Speaker 1: It's only Wednesday, excellent. So for all of our dribblers
- 34:47Speaker 1: at home. We've got a little bit of an Internet
- 34:49Speaker 1: lag today with Paul Liz, whose internet seems to have
- 34:53Speaker 1: have just given up the ghost, and so she's toggled
- 34:56Speaker 1: to her phone, which means that she keeps wanting to
- 34:59Speaker 1: make a con tribution to the conversation. So as soon
- 35:02Speaker 1: as Catherine and I see that, we stop and pause,
- 35:05Speaker 1: and then there's a delay in the pause, and then
- 35:08Speaker 1: there's a delay. It lives responding, And by that stage
- 35:11Speaker 1: went on to.
- 35:12Speaker 4: Say, yeah, I was about to say, it's exactly how
- 35:16Speaker 4: my brain works.
- 35:17Speaker 1: Delay Alex Right, Alex, our producer who has to make
- 35:22Speaker 1: sense of all of this nonsense for us.
- 35:24Speaker 3: But if it all feels the problem with my internet
- 35:28Speaker 3: is I live in the country and it's windy. That's
- 35:30Speaker 3: all it needs when it's windy that it all just goes.
- 35:35Speaker 3: Oh god, it's crazization is tenuous, it is anyway it is.
- 35:40Speaker 1: That's why we have to read books, Catherine. One day
- 35:43Speaker 1: there might only be books.
- 35:45Speaker 2: Yeah, we'll get on board then till that day.
- 35:48Speaker 1: All right, Well, that's all we've got time for. Today
- 35:51Speaker 1: is an extraordinary amount of dead air and editing for
- 35:54Speaker 1: Alex to do No eighty songs references. I know we
- 35:58Speaker 1: did have a Bonnie Tyler holding out for the hero
- 36:00Speaker 1: in My Wind Beneath the Wings, and obviously Win Beneath
- 36:03Speaker 1: Our Wings is an eighties song reference eighties nineties. Oh
- 36:08Speaker 1: that's a funny story. I'll just tell you briefly. You
- 36:10Speaker 1: know whin Beneath Our Wings?
- 36:12Speaker 5: What movie?
- 36:14Speaker 1: That song is from? The bet middle of song you
- 36:16Speaker 1: win Beneath Our Wings, it's from Beaches, right, remember Beaches.
- 36:19Speaker 1: So this was about nineteen eighty eight or eighty nine
- 36:22Speaker 1: and one of my very dear friends from high school,
- 36:25Speaker 1: her mother died after a long illness, and I went
- 36:28Speaker 1: over one day, a few days after the funeral and said,
- 36:31Speaker 1: come on, I'll get you out of the house, and
- 36:33Speaker 1: we gathered another school friend and we went to the
- 36:35Speaker 1: movies and we just went and watched any old shit.
- 36:38Speaker 1: Oh beaches. Now you know what happens in beaches?
- 36:41Speaker 5: Yeah, that was cruel.
- 36:43Speaker 1: Yeah, well, we didn't know. There was no internet back then,
- 36:46Speaker 1: so you just go Bet Midler. She's funny. But of course,
- 36:49Speaker 1: if you haven't seen Beaches, spoiler alert. But the movie
- 36:52Speaker 1: is thirty eight years old, so don't blame me.
- 36:55Speaker 3: You should say it.
- 36:56Speaker 1: One of the main characters dies of cancer. So that
- 36:58Speaker 1: was so. Look, if you want cheering up, ask Catherine.
- 37:03Speaker 1: She'll take you somehow.
- 37:04Speaker 2: I'm all over happy.
- 37:06Speaker 1: Gilmore is probably more you think beautiful. All right, well
- 37:10Speaker 1: that's all we've got time for today, but we will
- 37:13Speaker 1: be back on Friday. I'm Caroline Swindle, I'm Cathcox.
- 37:17Speaker 3: I'm lose Ellis, I'm delayed.
- 37:24Speaker 2: Bye bye. It might be Friday by the time we
- 37:27Speaker 2: get there.
