- 0:07The Insider I've covered a little while, Jeff leg disappearances are always must listen
- 0:13radio. You learn a lot Altitude Sports Radio ninety two five. Yeah,
- 0:24Jeff Flagwell, time here on a Thursday afternoon. No, ta's done.
- 0:28They didn't even do it today. Jeff Lagwall joins us on the ramos Law
- 0:32Hotline car accident. You need ramos Law medical doctor and attorney. Visit ramos
- 0:37Law dot com. Go to ESPN dot com and get all of his breathless
- 0:41coverage of mandatory miniature camp. Uh. Jeff Legwald of the two days that
- 0:47you saw where the players were compelled contractually, uh to be in attendance.
- 0:54Did any Broncos pop for you? Was there? Was there anything that you
- 0:59saw where you were like, Okay, they're on the right track there.
- 1:03Well, I mean, you know, it's it's such a controlled environment,
- 1:08you know it. I've told people sometimes we get lost and with the purpose
- 1:15of the time of year is OTA's and Minie camp is really the coach is
- 1:22just trying to get everybody familiar with assignments. They're not necessarily you know,
- 1:29grading depth chart performance. You know, they do have a depth chart,
- 1:34and there are starters and our backups and all of that, but the basis
- 1:38of it all is they're really checking everyone's understanding of their assignments. So that's
- 1:44that's kind of the prism I look at it through and I did see,
- 1:49you know, of the rookies and he and he's not going to get talked
- 1:53about given the you know, quarterback is all encompassing everything right now. But
- 2:00you know, I thought Jonah Ellis looked like a guy who's gonna contribute something
- 2:06right away for their defense. And I thought Nick Benito looked really good in
- 2:13the OTAs that we were in on and then you know, just just as
- 2:17far as his movement, reaction and all those things. So I'm kind of
- 2:22I was unsure where they were going to consistently create pass rush opportunities. And
- 2:29now I think I see enough athleticism there overall for them to mix and match
- 2:36and do some things that can be that can be really good for the defense.
- 2:39You know, I'm glad you brought up the name Nick Benito right there
- 2:42when you sort of think of like hinge players of like this thing could really
- 2:46swing in a good direction. Possibly. Nick Benito is one of those guys
- 2:50of like, okay, if there's another next step right there, and he
- 2:53can become a reliable double digit sack kind of producer, then you know,
- 2:58vance Joseph has a chance to meet maybe do something on this defense this year,
- 3:00because I think that the depth up front is better than what they had
- 3:06a year ago. Like, there there appears to be improving of that area
- 3:09of the field. The question is can there be consistent pressure to be able
- 3:14to help out the second area, et cetera. Like Benito to me is
- 3:16one of those guys of like, okay, if there's if there's a big
- 3:19leap forward there for that guy, like they could really have something. Yeah,
- 3:23And honestly, it's it's sort of a hidden item, but it doesn't
- 3:28have to be that big e lite because you know, in terms of analytics,
- 3:34Nick Bonito created among the best number of pressures last season as any rusher
- 3:42per SMAM, and you know a lot of defensive coaches will tell you that's
- 3:46a pretty good indicator of how a guy's playing. Now, he didn't turn
- 3:52those pressures into very many sets, and we you know, they weren't consistently
- 3:57good enough up front, But I think this year, if you turned pressures
- 4:00into sacks. I mean, Zach Allen isn't playing out a position now,
- 4:05you know, DJ Jones isn't because John Franklin. He changes the whole equation.
- 4:13And now if you get a pressure, you could be running people into
- 4:15sacks they didn't get last year. And that's that's what I mean. It
- 4:19doesn't have to be that big a jump for a player like him to to
- 4:24really suddenly pop in the eye of you know, the public, so to
- 4:29speak. But I think defensively, you know, defensively, they're sort of
- 4:32in I think, in better shape depth wise in a lot of places than
- 4:39they are in offense right now. I think that's that's one thing that I
- 4:42came away with as well. All Right, if the quarterbacks are going to
- 4:45perform a key element to that will be the offensive line. How good do
- 4:48you think they'll be? You know, the only decision they're making Andy's center,
- 4:54and you know they're not making it with any sort of rookie players.
- 4:59They're are making the decision with people who've been either here or around a while.
- 5:04So I think they feel pretty good. Again, it's all injury faced.
- 5:09You know, and I think mcglinchy and Bulls can't miss any time.
- 5:13I think they're really thin on the perimeter. If those two guys were injured
- 5:18for any significant amount of time, I think it would be really hard for
- 5:21them to cover it up without just going full blown, you know, too
- 5:27tight end all the time. So if the starters stayed in the whole way
- 5:31like last year, you know, they only have one game where the same
- 5:34five guys didn't start. If they get that again, I think they have
- 5:39a good chance at performing pretty well. Obligatory quarterback question time, now,
- 5:45Jeff Lagwald, how did they look? What did you make of Sean Payton's
- 5:50rotations during mandatory mini camp and going back through OTAs and how does that all
- 5:58translate to, you know, training camp and actually getting ready for a football
- 6:01season. Well, and I'll tell you I was intrigued. I asked him
- 6:06yesterday, did you see anything in this camp that would determine how you do
- 6:12things or in the off season program that will determine how you do things in
- 6:15training camp? And he actually, if you really look and listen to what
- 6:19he said, he actually did not commit to them starting training camp with equal
- 6:25reps again. You know, He essentially said, that'll be considered, but
- 6:30we haven't made that decision yet. And I think that's a pretty significant,
- 6:36pretty significant door to leave open. You know, it would have been very
- 6:41easily for him to say, you know, yeah, we're going to do
- 6:45it the same way when camp opens, all three guys, and he did
- 6:47not. He did not say that. In fact, he took great pains
- 6:50into not saying it. In my mind, so that's what I want to
- 6:55see when they come back. Is it a two man race? Is it?
- 7:00You know, are they leaning one way and you know, one guy
- 7:02gets I think the first week of camp will be certainly something to keep an
- 7:08eye on for that, you know, is it really still a three person
- 7:14battle? Again? It was so assignment oriented for those guys. There were
- 7:19an awful lot of areas of the field, none of them challenged because they
- 7:24either weren't asked to or did not shake out that way. Now, Davis
- 7:29Webb, the quarterbacks coach, was asked, you know, how do you
- 7:31keep guys from being conservative in a quarterback battle? And his quote was,
- 7:38we don't want to be checked down Charlie's So I think it's something they are
- 7:42aware of. And he said he did not think that was the case in
- 7:46the OTAs in the mini camp, but I certainly did. I certainly thought
- 7:50that was the case all right. So I'm asking you, based on performance,
- 7:56just your opinion, how do you think if they have eliminated maybe one
- 7:59guy getting as many reps as the other two, how do you think it
- 8:01would shake out on performance? How would it look. I don't know that
- 8:07they have Andy because I think each guy played his trump card effectively. Stidham
- 8:15was showed composure, comfort level the other guys don't have. Wilson showed athleticism
- 8:22the other two guys don't have. And Nick showed what they wanted him to
- 8:26see, which was maturity, and you know, his decision making and accuracy
- 8:31was was good. And again in a limited menu, you know, it
- 8:35was kind of a brunch menu instead of the full blown, you know,
- 8:39dinner menu type of thing. But they all three played their trump card.
- 8:46So I think if they were going to limit the race in any fashion to
- 8:50open and I'm not saying they are, I just said I thought it was
- 8:54intriguing, he would not fight at that. But if they do cut it
- 9:00down, I think they're they're doing it on projection rather than what they saw
- 9:05and you know on the field when we were there. Jeff Legwalden, you
- 9:09watch him on ESPN, you rate him on ESPN dot com. So September
- 9:13eighth, Broncos will be in Seattle offense takes the field for the first time.
- 9:20Who will be lining up at tight end for the Denver Broncos An excellent
- 9:26question. They you know, until I see him on I'd say Dulphins until
- 9:31but until I see him in who they said he well, they said he
- 9:35was going to be ready for what we saw and he was not so uh,
- 9:41But they also say it was just a precaution, so you know.
- 9:43I but he is who they want on the field when they want to throw
- 9:50the ball, and that room will be far less productive if he's not right
- 9:56now, you know, it's business as usual and he can't get it,
- 10:01you know, or you know, the struggles continue. I mean, it's
- 10:05never a guy's fault when he gets injured, but it's still frustrating. It's
- 10:11troutman if if they can't get him on the field, but they'd like it
- 10:16to be dulcin You're not buying Sean Payton's Lucas Kroll hype. Is that what
- 10:20you're telling me, he'll get plenty of snaps, especially you know if they
- 10:24they try to mesh you know, what they want to do on third down
- 10:28type, that type of thing. But Dulphin's changes the equation if he's ready
- 10:31to play, because he again like the quarterback that you know, he he's
- 10:37athletically different than all of the other guys. Yes, you know, and
- 10:41it's just it's very obvious when he plays that he can be impactful. But
- 10:45you know, I can't express to people enough how much they need that position
- 10:50against nickel defenses. In today's league. There's not a good offense in the
- 10:54league that doesn't have that impact player. All right, let's go back to
- 10:58Nate's phrasing of the question, because I kind of like that. Come September
- 11:01eighth, as we get on the plane they get on the plane anyway to
- 11:03travel to Seattle, will you Audric estimate Javonte Williams and samaj p Ryan all
- 11:11be in that same running back room or do you think they shed one of
- 11:13them? Well, if they're they're most likely going to keep Burton for sure,
- 11:20because he's a fullback and the only fall back and he plays every special
- 11:24teams known to man Uh for them, you know that that's a that's a
- 11:30pretty big running back room. You know you're talking five five players. Uh
- 11:37So it's hard for me to believe they would keep five running backs. It's
- 11:39been a long time since we've seen, uh seen them do that, so
- 11:45uh, I guess I would say no. Jeff Legwald, everybody ESPN we
- 11:52say yes to his appearances every time that he comes onto the show, filling
- 11:56us in on what's going on at mandatory mini camp this week. No preank
- 12:00today, Jeff Lagwalld summer vacation starts soon, so long as nobody gets arrested
- 12:07or anything else like that. That's a fourth of July post fourth of July
- 12:09thing. He's fine, He's gotta tell mid July. You're telling me there's
- 12:15no crime in June. No, Jeff, am I wrong? You always
- 12:18tell me it's the fourth of July weekend that gets these coaches nervous. That's
- 12:24the one. You know. Anytime you got Festivus, fireworks and uh and
- 12:30halfy hour, I think it's uh that could be a tough combination, or
- 12:35we let you go. Favorite water athlete, Date's got a great question for
- 12:39his personal four pack of water World tickets. He's given away. We defined
- 12:43we we could have come up. We came up with stuff in the water,
- 12:48under the water, near the water. Frankly, what do you got
- 12:52your favorite athlete? Aquatic athlete? Michael Saltz. That's where I'm going.

- 13:07history lesson just a little bit. I thought you were asking me my
- 13:13favorite. I'm sorry, Jeff Lego hyping up this, Wayne Gretzky, this
- 13:18Michael. If you heard of these guys, they're pretty good. What this
- 13:20Tom Brady? Oh yeah, let's let's pick against secretariat. That's great strategy.

- 13:35be my favorite water athletes. The guy that swammed the English Channel whatever you're
