- 0:06Speaker 1: This is the Patriots Catch twenty two podcasts with Evan
- 0:09Speaker 1: Lazar and Alex Bart.
- 0:12Speaker 2: And Lazarre. Hello, everybody nailed it, joined as always by
- 0:15Speaker 2: our bar gap match no risk.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Here is Evan Lazar and Alex Barr. Fifteen.
- 0:23Speaker 2: That's like two percent of the entire entirety of the
- 0:28Speaker 2: plays that they called, right. They called a.
- 0:30Speaker 1: Thousand offensive plays.
- 0:31Speaker 2: I'm not very good at math, but I can tell
- 0:33Speaker 2: you that that's like two percent, right whatever.
- 0:38Speaker 1: This point at this point was probably Microsoft Exel's sponsor,
- 0:41Speaker 1: given how often we talk about them, although the way
- 0:43Speaker 1: I talked about him, I don't know how well that
- 0:44Speaker 1: would work. It's Alex Bart in the host chair today
- 0:47Speaker 1: on Catch twenty two. A little bit of a shotgun
- 0:49Speaker 1: start here. That's uh, you know, partially on me, but
- 0:51Speaker 1: we are off and running on a senior partially on me.
- 0:55Speaker 1: We are often running on a Senior Bowl edition of
- 0:57Speaker 1: Catch twenty two. It wasn't Evan's fault, that wasn't MA fault.
- 1:00Speaker 1: I'm just gonna say it was partially my fault. But
- 1:02Speaker 1: we are underway here. It's Alex Bart in the host
- 1:05Speaker 1: chair because Evan Lazar is down in mobile at the
- 1:08Speaker 1: Senior Bowl. That's gonna be the heavy majority of the
- 1:11Speaker 1: show today will be Senior Bowl topics. We'll get you know.
- 1:14Speaker 1: There are a couple more coaches that were hired the
- 1:16Speaker 1: last couple of days. Drake May is going to the
- 1:18Speaker 1: Pro Bowl. We can get to that as well. Your
- 1:20Speaker 1: calls eight five to five, Pats five hundred. But before
- 1:23Speaker 1: we get underway, I let people know our show is
- 1:26Speaker 1: brought to you by Toyota. Hey, Patriots fans. If you
- 1:28Speaker 1: want to see Toyota's best offers, including those Nazeen on TV,
- 1:32Speaker 1: go to buy at toyota dot com. It's Toyota's official
- 1:34Speaker 1: website for deals from the official vehicle of the New
- 1:37Speaker 1: England Patriots, Toyota, Let's Go Places and bud Light, Easy
- 1:41Speaker 1: to Drink, easy to Enjoy. Bud Light, the official beer
- 1:43Speaker 1: sponsor of the New England Patriots. So two days down
- 1:50Speaker 1: in mobile, two practices down, one to go tomorrow and
- 1:52Speaker 1: then the game on Saturday. So things hardly in the
- 1:55Speaker 1: books yet a lot of time for things to change.
- 1:58Speaker 1: But I think let's start here, Evan, because the Patriots,
- 2:03Speaker 1: you could argue, their biggest need on both sides of
- 2:05Speaker 1: the balls in the trenches we kind of knew when
- 2:08Speaker 1: you looked at the rosters going into this week. They
- 2:11Speaker 1: always do a good job of putting together complete roster,
- 2:13Speaker 1: but this year specifically, it felt like the strength down
- 2:16Speaker 1: there is in the trenches. And I think that that
- 2:19Speaker 1: just big pick trum curious if you're agree seeing it
- 2:21Speaker 1: in person. I think that's held up through two days.
- 2:23Speaker 1: On both sides of the ball, for the most part,
- 2:26Speaker 1: a couple of the players here and there, for the
- 2:27Speaker 1: most part, the best players at the Senior Bowls here
- 2:30Speaker 1: are offensive lineman and defensive linemen.
- 2:34Speaker 2: Yeah, I would definitely say that's true on the defensive
- 2:37Speaker 2: side of the ball, the defensive line group, and I
- 2:39Speaker 2: want to get into individual players here with you. We
- 2:42Speaker 2: can just kind of get through both rosters and I'll
- 2:45Speaker 2: just start throwing names at you that have stood out
- 2:47Speaker 2: to me here. But just watching this defensive line group
- 2:52Speaker 2: for both teams, but especially the American team, there's been
- 2:55Speaker 2: some dominant, dominant stretches of practice for this defensive line
- 2:59Speaker 2: and this is cutting off that. You know, there's no
- 3:01Speaker 2: Abdul Carter here, right, you know, like we're cutting off
- 3:04Speaker 2: the top of the class and really starting to talk
- 3:06Speaker 2: about you know, the kid from Texas A and m
- 3:09Speaker 2: is probably the best mastiest rated player. Yeah, are Green
- 3:14Speaker 2: from Marshall, Right, Like those are those are the two
- 3:17Speaker 2: top guys here that are fringe first round pick. So
- 3:20Speaker 2: we're not even talking about the top of the top.
- 3:23Speaker 2: And it's been a dominant group. Your boy Dion Walker
- 3:26Speaker 2: has some things to work out, but he's looked really
- 3:29Speaker 2: good in terms of his size and his strength and
- 3:32Speaker 2: all that translating. And there's a couple offensive linemen though
- 3:35Speaker 2: that I would agree. I mean, as Zabel kid from
- 3:38Speaker 2: North Dakota State is outstanding, He's fantastic. Some of the
- 3:43Speaker 2: tackles I think I've been up and down. We can
- 3:45Speaker 2: get to that here in a minute. But overall, my my,
- 3:49Speaker 2: my big picture of takeaway about the tackle group. You know,
- 3:53Speaker 2: I'm just curious about your thoughts. I think just getting
- 3:56Speaker 2: the general feeling down here about it. It seems to
- 3:59Speaker 2: me like there is some trepidation about this tackle group,
- 4:03Speaker 2: especially at the top of the draft. And we've discussed
- 4:05Speaker 2: this many times, like as Will Campbell tackle is the guards.
- 4:09Speaker 2: Kelvin Banks truly one of those types of guys, And
- 4:12Speaker 2: then you were kind of hoping that Ursery and Connorly
- 4:15Speaker 2: were going to take that next step this week of
- 4:17Speaker 2: putting themselves into that like top twenty top twenty five conversation.
- 4:22Speaker 2: And I think it's been a little bit up and
- 4:23Speaker 2: down for those too. So I'm not saying that there
- 4:25Speaker 2: aren't any good tackles in every draft. There's always gonna
- 4:28Speaker 2: be players. But in this draft, it definitely feels like
- 4:31Speaker 2: the tackle sweet spot might be closer to the Patriots
- 4:35Speaker 2: second round pick than their first round pick. And now
- 4:37Speaker 2: it just comes down to how do you divvy that
- 4:40Speaker 2: up right? How do you sort of figure that out
- 4:42Speaker 2: from there?
- 4:43Speaker 1: I think, I mean, we can start with the tackles.
- 4:44Speaker 1: I think that's probably what a lot of people are
- 4:46Speaker 1: interested in. I thought Erser and Connorley specifically, I thought
- 4:51Speaker 1: they were both pretty good yesterday. I thought yesterday you
- 4:53Speaker 1: more or less saw what you wanted to see from
- 4:55Speaker 1: them today. And they're both together on the national team.
- 4:59Speaker 1: They did that thing yesterday in the national team coaching
- 5:02Speaker 1: staff where they they cross trained everybody, and you know,
- 5:06Speaker 1: the left tackle spent a lot of time on the
- 5:08Speaker 1: right side, the right tackle spent a lot of time
- 5:09Speaker 1: on the left side. We obviously saw that here with
- 5:12Speaker 1: Alex van Pelt last year. Now it's it's a completely
- 5:15Speaker 1: different setting, and I understand why they do it, you know,
- 5:18Speaker 1: because teams want to see these guys on both sides
- 5:20Speaker 1: and figure out if these guys can be swing tackles.
- 5:22Speaker 1: And some guys took advantage of that opportunity. I don't
- 5:24Speaker 1: want to say like everybody struggled, but there's obviously the
- 5:27Speaker 1: clip going around of Josh Connolly getting blown up by
- 5:30Speaker 1: Mike Green. Arianta Ursery struggled a little bit as well
- 5:34Speaker 1: in that setting, but that's at right tackle. So you know,
- 5:37Speaker 1: the big takeaway for me from today is Connorley a
- 5:40Speaker 1: Nursery aren't right tackles, Which, okay, it's fine, Like, you know,
- 5:44Speaker 1: I don't think you're drafting them a play right tackle.
- 5:46Speaker 1: I don't think anybody. It's good to see and if
- 5:49Speaker 1: you're you know, if you're an evaluator, you definitely want
- 5:51Speaker 1: to see it. But I don't put and I maybe
- 5:55Speaker 1: this comes off as just me defending players I like,
- 5:57Speaker 1: but like, I don't put as much stock and a
- 5:59Speaker 1: guy that has played left tackle his whole career that
- 6:02Speaker 1: I'm looking to draft as a left tackle getting blown
- 6:05Speaker 1: up on one rep at the right tackle at a
- 6:07Speaker 1: showcase game.
- 6:08Speaker 2: Yeah, I would also mention, and not to take anything
- 6:11Speaker 2: away from Mike Green, who I thought was dominant today.
- 6:14Speaker 2: The rep that's going around of him bull rushing Connorly,
- 6:17Speaker 2: it's a fantastic display of power. It doesn't do a
- 6:21Speaker 2: whole lot for me, though, because if you watch the rep,
- 6:23Speaker 2: Mi Green ends up on the ground too. Yes, you
- 6:27Speaker 2: just kind of took you yourself out of the play
- 6:30Speaker 2: as much as anything as well, Like, yeah, you showed
- 6:32Speaker 2: off that you got some real human strength, which is great.
- 6:35Speaker 2: But let's if you're playing that in the game and
- 6:40Speaker 2: both guys go down and that's an arrow. If you're
- 6:42Speaker 2: playing Drake May and he sees that the right tackle
- 6:46Speaker 2: gets you know, bench pressed back into the pocket, but
- 6:48Speaker 2: the guy rushing on him falls to the ground. I
- 6:51Speaker 2: know what Drake May is doing. He's going right outside
- 6:53Speaker 2: the right right, you know, like he's just gonna run
- 6:56Speaker 2: right outside the pocket in that direction. So stay on
- 6:59Speaker 2: your feet. That that's the one thing that always you know,
- 7:02Speaker 2: balance and all that stuff is great. But I agree
- 7:05Speaker 2: with you that both those guys showed much better at
- 7:08Speaker 2: left tackle yesterday, just starting with Connory. I think the
- 7:12Speaker 2: one thing that really stands out to me with him
- 7:14Speaker 2: is that he's just got a really great urgency out
- 7:17Speaker 2: of his stance, just really quick, explosive, choppy, you know,
- 7:22Speaker 2: I should say opposite of choppy, fluid movements, like right
- 7:25Speaker 2: out of his stance, can get to the set points,
- 7:28Speaker 2: can get to his landmarks in the run game really effortlessly.
- 7:32Speaker 2: He's the one thing that just eye test wise and
- 7:35Speaker 2: just looking at him in person. He's not overly big,
- 7:39Speaker 2: and I'm not talking about that. He's Isaiah Winn right, Like,
- 7:42Speaker 2: he's not that small, but he's six four three ten
- 7:45Speaker 2: three fifteen, he's got the length, he's got thirty four
- 7:48Speaker 2: inch arms that that's not the concern, but just in
- 7:51Speaker 2: terms of you know, in the opposite side of the spectrum,
- 7:54Speaker 2: Ursery is a mammoth, right Like, he's like six six,
- 7:57Speaker 2: three hundred and thirty five, three hundred and forty pounds.
- 8:00Speaker 2: Talking about two really really different players, like Connorly is
- 8:03Speaker 2: more the athletic, you know, dancing bear type, whereas Ursery is.
- 8:08Speaker 2: If you want a guy that's gonna block downhill and
- 8:11Speaker 2: in the run game and move people and move bodies
- 8:14Speaker 2: at the tackle position, then Ursery is your guy. Like that.
- 8:17Speaker 2: That's the type of guy that's going to be able
- 8:19Speaker 2: to do that. Connorly, I think is a higher level
- 8:22Speaker 2: ceiling in terms of pass protection just because of his
- 8:24Speaker 2: movement skill with ersery. He's just a people mover. He's
- 8:28Speaker 2: a monster of a man that sticks out right away.
- 8:30Speaker 2: How big he is, just tall, stocky, you know all
- 8:34Speaker 2: the way through, very very powerful. But he does play high.
- 8:38Speaker 2: You know, he plays with higher pads and a wider
- 8:42Speaker 2: hand carriage too, that he's going to have to get
- 8:44Speaker 2: inside of those edge rushers that are going to try
- 8:47Speaker 2: to get underneath him and stuff like that. But both guys,
- 8:50Speaker 2: Like I'm not writing off either guy. I think both
- 8:52Speaker 2: guys have that potential. I just think again it comes
- 8:55Speaker 2: back to where do you find that sweet spot to
- 8:58Speaker 2: be able to target one of the those players? Is it?
- 9:02Speaker 2: Are you able to wait till thirty eight? Are they
- 9:04Speaker 2: gonna fall to you? Do you have to train up
- 9:07Speaker 2: from thirty eight to land one of those players at
- 9:09Speaker 2: the back end of the first round. Let's say, you know,
- 9:11Speaker 2: do they go into that Tyler Goeitton type range?
- 9:15Speaker 1: Right?
- 9:15Speaker 2: I think he went like twenty five or twenty six
- 9:17Speaker 2: last year. You know that that's a big question with
- 9:21Speaker 2: this tackle group because I don't think that there's a
- 9:25Speaker 2: lot of depth to this tackle group either. There's two
- 9:29Speaker 2: guys that have stood out here, and I'm sure you
- 9:30Speaker 2: you you feel the same way for a lot of people.
- 9:34Speaker 2: Benton from NC State has been solid. He might I
- 9:39Speaker 2: don't know if he's going to be an inside guy
- 9:40Speaker 2: or an outside guy at the NFL level. Might be
- 9:42Speaker 2: a little bit of both. I haven't been overly drawn
- 9:48Speaker 2: to the game from Boston College. I should know names. Yeah, yeah,
- 9:54Speaker 2: I haven't been overly enamored by him. I think he
- 9:58Speaker 2: plays pretty tall, and I doesn't have a whole lot
- 10:00Speaker 2: of bend and the lowers to kind of get down
- 10:03Speaker 2: and block guys that are going to be speed rushers
- 10:05Speaker 2: off the edge against him. But he's got all the tools,
- 10:08Speaker 2: he's got a good size to him, and he did
- 10:11Speaker 2: pretty well in one on ones yesterday and today, especially today.
- 10:15Speaker 2: So those two guys have popped in terms of like that.
- 10:18Speaker 2: Now we're talking early day three, mid day three, you
- 10:21Speaker 2: know that type of thing. I would say maybe late
- 10:23Speaker 2: day two if they sneak in there. But it's an
- 10:27Speaker 2: interesting group, you know, when you take Milom out of it,
- 10:30Speaker 2: He's gonna play guard or center at the NFL levels.
- 10:33Speaker 2: Able's gonna play guard or center at the NFL level.
- 10:35Speaker 2: Like those are two guys I think a lot of
- 10:37Speaker 2: people were hot on and I think Emery Jones might
- 10:41Speaker 2: play guard at the next level too. So you had
- 10:44Speaker 2: to take all three of those guys out of day
- 10:45Speaker 2: two in terms of what you look at at tackles,
- 10:48Speaker 2: and it bends out a little bit.
- 10:50Speaker 1: I'll just just to go backtrack real quick. I mentioned
- 10:52Speaker 1: there were some guys that I did have success on
- 10:55Speaker 1: the cross trading day and you just named both of
- 10:57Speaker 1: them in Belton and Pillow. And Belton in particular fascinates
- 11:04Speaker 1: me because he's probably gonna go late day to early
- 11:07Speaker 1: day three. So it's not you know, you're not using
- 11:10Speaker 1: top fifty pick on him. And I know I'm the
- 11:12Speaker 1: guy that for two years has been so anti moving tackles.
- 11:15Speaker 1: So this is gonna come as a little bit of
- 11:17Speaker 1: a surprise to people. But well, well, let me explain.
- 11:21Speaker 1: On one hand, no, let me it's it's a fair coritique.
- 11:24Speaker 1: Let me explain. On one hand, I think going from
- 11:27Speaker 1: left to right is easier than going from right to left.
- 11:30Speaker 1: On the other hand, I think for this specific scenario,
- 11:33Speaker 1: where are you gonna get him right? If you get
- 11:35Speaker 1: a guy like Belton and to the third top of
- 11:38Speaker 1: the fourth, okay, and you bring him in and you
- 11:42Speaker 1: instantly start training him on the right side and just
- 11:46Speaker 1: kind of keep him, you know, let him do enough
- 11:49Speaker 1: at left that he's comfortable, but you start training him
- 11:51Speaker 1: on the right side. Now you have a guy that's
- 11:54Speaker 1: a developmental player that even if he's not ready to
- 11:57Speaker 1: start the ear you still have Kayden Wallace right and
- 12:01Speaker 1: get you basically have him and Kane Walls competing for
- 12:03Speaker 1: that right tackle spot. Well, he's also a guy that
- 12:05Speaker 1: can give you a backup on the left side. And
- 12:08Speaker 1: his ability to do both of those things, like best
- 12:11Speaker 1: case scenario, he's better than can Wallas, he's your starting
- 12:14Speaker 1: right tackle and boom. Even if not even if he's
- 12:17Speaker 1: a little worse than that, well, now you have a
- 12:19Speaker 1: pretty good swing tackle. Now you have a pretty good
- 12:22Speaker 1: third guy who can give you depth in both spots. Which,
- 12:25Speaker 1: as much as we've talked about them needing starters at
- 12:27Speaker 1: the tackle position, they also need backups. They might not
- 12:30Speaker 1: have backups at either spot. So Belton, for if he
- 12:32Speaker 1: was going to go in the top fifty, I would
- 12:34Speaker 1: say no, I'd say it's too much for that value
- 12:37Speaker 1: of the pick. But if you can get him at
- 12:39Speaker 1: one oh four, well that you know, that changes the
- 12:43Speaker 1: math on it. And now suddenly a guy like that
- 12:45Speaker 1: makes a lot more sense to me. So I was
- 12:47Speaker 1: hoping one of the big things I was going to
- 12:49Speaker 1: be looking for was if we saw Belton on the
- 12:51Speaker 1: right side. The fact he's played inside of guard too,
- 12:54Speaker 1: I thought he was maybe one of these guys that
- 12:56Speaker 1: was too big to play guard. And I guess Makai,
- 12:58Speaker 1: Beckton and Philly of proven that maybe that's a myth. Yeah,
- 13:02Speaker 1: you can be too big to play guard, because that
- 13:03Speaker 1: asked me the vision right when you move him inside,
- 13:05Speaker 1: that's what you're looking to replicate. But I think, you know,
- 13:09Speaker 1: pound for pound again, I think Connolly Nursery have been fine.
- 13:12Speaker 1: They've had their issues, but they're not issues that worry me,
- 13:14Speaker 1: particularly in terms of being a guy you're going to
- 13:17Speaker 1: take at the end of the first or the beginning
- 13:18Speaker 1: of the second round. I'm not worried there. But I
- 13:20Speaker 1: think pound for pound, Belton might be having the best
- 13:23Speaker 1: week of any tackle down there. Zabel's been the best lineman,
- 13:25Speaker 1: and I don't think it's close. Yeah, Zabel's been unbelievable,
- 13:28Speaker 1: but I think Belton's really really helped himself out.
- 13:33Speaker 2: Yeah, and you mentioned backing up at tackle. I also
- 13:36Speaker 2: would throw out there that look good. They could need
- 13:40Speaker 2: to fill left guard also, Yeah, I just I'm not
- 13:44Speaker 2: saying that I am prioritizing left guard in this draft.
- 13:48Speaker 2: But if you draft a guy like Belton fourth rapped,
- 13:51Speaker 2: let's say, you know, he's there for you in the fourth.
- 13:54Speaker 1: One four is probably if you're the Patriots, it's probably
- 13:56Speaker 1: where you're taking them, unless he has like an awesome
- 13:59Speaker 1: combine and now maybe maybe he's in the conversation seventy seven.
- 14:03Speaker 2: Yeah, if you take Belton at one O four the
- 14:05Speaker 2: fourth round, and best case scenario, he's a tackle, right
- 14:10Speaker 2: and you develop him that tackle and maybe he plays
- 14:12Speaker 2: the right tackle in the Patriots system, specifically with McDaniels.
- 14:17Speaker 2: Worst case scenario, maybe he's a starting guard right in
- 14:20Speaker 2: the league too. And I know the worst case scenario
- 14:23Speaker 2: is that he's not in the league, right, Like I
- 14:24Speaker 2: understand that, I'm just saying, let's say it pans out
- 14:26Speaker 2: and right it works out for him somewhere, you know,
- 14:29Speaker 2: Belton eventually could play guard too or tackle. So now
- 14:33Speaker 2: you kind of have this player that can play both
- 14:37Speaker 2: inside and outside for you if Landon Robinson doesn't work out,
- 14:40Speaker 2: if Cole Strange doesn't work out, if they're giving up
- 14:43Speaker 2: on City. So you know, we've been over this, like
- 14:45Speaker 2: they have multiple spots to fill on the offensive line.
- 14:48Speaker 2: You can never have too many of those types of
- 14:50Speaker 2: guys that can play, you know, all over the offensive line.
- 14:54Speaker 2: It just is really valuable. Now, the other guy that
- 14:57Speaker 2: I want to mention who I think has been awesome
- 15:00Speaker 2: even though he wasn't on really anybody's radar. So like
- 15:03Speaker 2: props to Jim Nati and the Senior Bowl for bringing
- 15:06Speaker 2: Carson Vision here from from Alabama, A and M.
- 15:10Speaker 1: I mean I wanted to bring him up. I think
- 15:13Speaker 1: he's been good.
- 15:15Speaker 2: It's spelled v I N S O N. So I'm
- 15:18Speaker 2: gonna go with Vincent, right, I don't know, Uh, well,
- 15:21Speaker 2: we can look that up. But yeah, he's uh he's
- 15:24Speaker 2: a really really intense guy. And that's something that I
- 15:28Speaker 2: think is always cool about being here and being able
- 15:31Speaker 2: to see in between plays and like what happens and
- 15:35Speaker 2: stuff like that. One of the cool things that you
- 15:37Speaker 2: hear a lot of the scouts chatting about is just
- 15:39Speaker 2: watch this guy's demeanor, Like watch watches his him after
- 15:44Speaker 2: the play, and this guy is always always you know,
- 15:48Speaker 2: going crazy, and he had yesterday. They do that showcase
- 15:53Speaker 2: like thing at the end of the each practice session
- 15:55Speaker 2: where they put everybody at the fifty yard live and
- 15:57Speaker 2: they do one on once. It's wide receiver dB, it's
- 16:00Speaker 2: tight end safety, it's pass rusher, offensive lineman doing you know,
- 16:05Speaker 2: one on one pass blocking. And uh, Vincent got a
- 16:08Speaker 2: one on one against and absolutely walled, just like completely
- 16:13Speaker 2: shut him down and he was amped up afterwards. And
- 16:17Speaker 2: this is a HBCU prospect, small school guy. Yeah, not
- 16:22Speaker 2: somebody that is on a ton of radars, like on
- 16:25Speaker 2: the consensus board that we use. He's like considered like
- 16:28Speaker 2: a fringe draftable player.
- 16:30Speaker 1: I don't think he looks like the draft simulators looking
- 16:33Speaker 1: for that to the a couple of guys that weren't there.
- 16:35Speaker 2: Yeah, I think he's he's looked draftable to me, you know,
- 16:37Speaker 2: obvious saying you're him in the first round, But he
- 16:40Speaker 2: looked draftable.
- 16:41Speaker 1: To let me ask you what position because they moved
- 16:45Speaker 1: him around quite a bit. You think he's a tackle.
- 16:47Speaker 2: Yeah, I think he's a tackle. I think it, you know,
- 16:50Speaker 2: best case, you know again best case, worst case, like
- 16:53Speaker 2: probably a swing tackle uh in the league. But I
- 16:55Speaker 2: think he's got enough athleticism, uh to play left tackle.
- 16:59Speaker 2: And he's he's he's built like he's a really built
- 17:01Speaker 2: out guy, a really athletic build to him as well,
- 17:05Speaker 2: and like I said, just nasty, just a really physical guy.
- 17:08Speaker 1: Any guards that stood out to you just before we
- 17:11Speaker 1: wrap it up on the line, you mentioned those showcases
- 17:13Speaker 1: at the end. Clay Webb has had wins in those.
- 17:16Speaker 1: I think I'm back to back days now. The guard
- 17:18Speaker 1: from Jacksonville State, he stood out to me. He's held
- 17:22Speaker 1: his own really well. Obviously Zabel, but he's probably gonna
- 17:25Speaker 1: go higher than the Patriots and realistically take a guard.
- 17:29Speaker 1: Any other interior guys, especially for the Patriots, that have
- 17:32Speaker 1: stood out to you.
- 17:34Speaker 2: Yeah, Well, just really quickly on Zabel because I just
- 17:36Speaker 2: have to dusch about Zabel for a second. I mean
- 17:38Speaker 2: that guy is just fantastic, Like just plays with great
- 17:44Speaker 2: leverage and great power and his strikes and just great
- 17:47Speaker 2: balance to his body control as well. And we're talking
- 17:50Speaker 2: about a player that played tackle in college. And hasn't
- 17:54Speaker 2: repped a ton in the interior, and I think he
- 17:57Speaker 2: can play all three interior spots, you know, put him
- 17:59Speaker 2: at guard, put him at center, wherever you want to
- 18:02Speaker 2: play him. You know, not to like pick on him,
- 18:04Speaker 2: but I didn't think it was as smooth for Wyatt
- 18:06Speaker 2: Mylom who moved inside here this week. Yeah, and hasn't
- 18:10Speaker 2: been really very consistent. Zabel, on the other hand, has
- 18:14Speaker 2: been dominant at times, and it just moves extremely well
- 18:17Speaker 2: off the ball in the run game and has held
- 18:19Speaker 2: his own in pass pro like I said, despite the
- 18:22Speaker 2: fact that he hasn't bought a ton on the interior
- 18:25Speaker 2: where things are quicker, powerful, more powerful things like that.
- 18:28Speaker 2: So he's looked really spectacular. I think he's If it
- 18:32Speaker 2: was me, if you're looking at a guy like Zabel,
- 18:35Speaker 2: I would play him at left guard. I just think
- 18:37Speaker 2: that's where you probably get the most bang for your buck,
- 18:40Speaker 2: you know, make him, make him a Joe Toney right like,
- 18:42Speaker 2: you know, put him at left guard, and and have
- 18:45Speaker 2: a really high level pass protector at left guard who
- 18:49Speaker 2: played tackle in college is moving inside that whole thing,
- 18:52Speaker 2: which is similar to what happened with Tony Uh the
- 18:56Speaker 2: other gut one I would mention I was Jalen Rivers
- 18:59Speaker 2: from Miami. I thought he's been really solid, especially yesterday.
- 19:03Speaker 2: Uh he's playing guard here. Uh he looks really really good,
- 19:07Speaker 2: A strong guy, a good lower center of gravity, can
- 19:10Speaker 2: absorb power, Uh, can move a little bit. I think
- 19:13Speaker 2: he's been really solid. I thought he was definitely, uh
- 19:16Speaker 2: you know, a winner yesterday, having you know, looked at
- 19:20Speaker 2: him much today. Uh, since you know, I was looking
- 19:23Speaker 2: at some other players, a.
- 19:25Speaker 1: Couple of missus today. He had a couple of misses today.
- 19:27Speaker 2: But okay, yeah, he's been he was really solid yesterday.
- 19:32Speaker 2: Uh Membu the Missouri guard slash tackle he didn't practice. Uh,
- 19:37Speaker 2: so he didn't see him, which was disappointing. But overall,
- 19:41Speaker 2: I look at this group and I come back to
- 19:45Speaker 2: you know, how how do we kind of split this
- 19:48Speaker 2: baby here? I you know, you need to target tackle
- 19:50Speaker 2: an offensive line? You know where do you want to target?
- 19:53Speaker 2: It is important and we have to talk a little
- 19:55Speaker 2: bit at some point. I know he didn't was not inmobile,
- 19:59Speaker 2: But uh about Travis Hunter, who I think is like,
- 20:02Speaker 2: what what do you think of Travis Hunter right now?
- 20:05Speaker 2: If he's a corner or if he's a receiver was
- 20:08Speaker 2: a big topic and discussion here in Mobile. It just
- 20:12Speaker 2: kind of fun, like everybody has a little bit of
- 20:13Speaker 2: a different take on it.
- 20:14Speaker 1: Just like we you know you and I am right.
- 20:16Speaker 2: So it's it's an interesting one, but we can save
- 20:19Speaker 2: that after we get through all the players that are here.
- 20:22Speaker 2: But in terms of the offensive line, I thought Ursery
- 20:26Speaker 2: and Connorly just to sum it up, I thought both
- 20:28Speaker 2: those guys did enough. Like I wasn't oh wow, now
- 20:32Speaker 2: these one of these guys gonna drop, you know, be
- 20:34Speaker 2: drafted in the top ten or top fifteen. I didn't
- 20:36Speaker 2: necessarily get there, but I thought that they were okay
- 20:39Speaker 2: enough and they weren't complete liabilities that it was a problem.
- 20:43Speaker 2: And I would probably say in terms of the sleepers
- 20:46Speaker 2: like Belton was probably the most impressive.
- 20:48Speaker 1: I still think Connorly or and you mentioned Tyler Guitton earlier,
- 20:53Speaker 1: like I think we're right back into that spot. That
- 20:56Speaker 1: was the guy last year. It was all right, trade
- 20:57Speaker 1: up from thirty four and hit your tackle, and they
- 21:00Speaker 1: obviously didn't do that. There's some reports out there that
- 21:02Speaker 1: they tried, but they always didn't do that. I think
- 21:04Speaker 1: we're gonna be having that same conversation again, they're gonna
- 21:06Speaker 1: pick whoever unless they take Campbell or Banks at the
- 21:09Speaker 1: top of the board. Right, if we're we're sitting there
- 21:11Speaker 1: April twenty, what is it, twenty fourth, twenty fifth, and
- 21:14Speaker 1: they take Travis Hunter or they take Tech mcmillany, like
- 21:18Speaker 1: they trade back to take Tech McMillan, right, something like that,
- 21:20Speaker 1: they take Mason Graham, We're gonna kind of be sitting there.
- 21:24Speaker 1: We're not. We're not gonna We're not gonna be done
- 21:26Speaker 1: for the night. We're not. And when I say we,
- 21:29Speaker 1: I mean I think you have to have an eye
- 21:31Speaker 1: on for people following the team. Is their move back
- 21:34Speaker 1: up the board. Are they gonna try to squeeze the
- 21:36Speaker 1: second pick in the first round, because I think those
- 21:39Speaker 1: tackles are probably worth it Elsewhere on offense wide receiver,
- 21:44Speaker 1: I think this is where we're gonna disagree a little
- 21:46Speaker 1: bit on a couple of players. The player to watch
- 21:49Speaker 1: coming in, especially for the Patriots with Xavier or Streppo,
- 21:53Speaker 1: who kind of profiles as that ideal Patriots slot. Not
- 21:58Speaker 1: only does he have the quickness, but he is the
- 21:59Speaker 1: tough to be a volume guy. You see, he's built
- 22:03Speaker 1: for it. He's built a little thicker, a little more
- 22:04Speaker 1: dense to absorb some of those hits. I think he's
- 22:08Speaker 1: done what he needed to do so far through two practices.
- 22:12Speaker 1: I don't have you know, it hasn't really any been
- 22:15Speaker 1: anything that stood out that did you worry about for
- 22:17Speaker 1: me from him. I know you were texting me that
- 22:20Speaker 1: you maybe had some concerns about his long speed in
- 22:23Speaker 1: that position. I don't really worry so much about straight
- 22:25Speaker 1: line speed. I'm gonna be running in a straight line
- 22:28Speaker 1: that much. And if he is, he's pulled away from defender,
- 22:30Speaker 1: which is great. I'm really high in what I've seen
- 22:33Speaker 1: from Rastreppo this week.
- 22:35Speaker 2: Yeah, I wanted to really fall in love with Rastreppo,
- 22:40Speaker 2: and I don't know if I necessarily got there with him.
- 22:42Speaker 2: The thing that it stands out to me though with
- 22:44Speaker 2: him is the build. Like yesterday, as soon as I
- 22:47Speaker 2: saw him, I was like, all right, that he's built
- 22:50Speaker 2: like a running back and runs routs like a receiver,
- 22:52Speaker 2: which is what you want if that's the role that
- 22:54Speaker 2: you're gonna play, if you're gonna be a volume slot
- 22:57Speaker 2: in that Julian Edelman khalilis here, you know, like that
- 23:01Speaker 2: type of role and I see a little bit of
- 23:04Speaker 2: shakier in him. She hears a little bit taller, a
- 23:06Speaker 2: little bit bigger. But in terms of Restreppo, I do
- 23:10Speaker 2: see some comparisons there, and a big element of it is,
- 23:13Speaker 2: you know, you don't see a ton of after the
- 23:15Speaker 2: catch in these practices, so if he plays in the game,
- 23:19Speaker 2: maybe we'll see a little bit more of that. But
- 23:20Speaker 2: like you did, you're watching these guys run routes, you're
- 23:23Speaker 2: not necessarily watching what they can do with the ball
- 23:25Speaker 2: in their hands. And I think that's a big part
- 23:27Speaker 2: of Restreppo's game. You know, he's returning punts this week,
- 23:30Speaker 2: you know he's working out of the slot, he's doing
- 23:32Speaker 2: all those types of things. So I definitely think that
- 23:35Speaker 2: that's a big element to his game. He's the first
- 23:38Speaker 2: and second level route runner, though, like there's not going
- 23:40Speaker 2: to be a whole lot. He tried a couple of
- 23:43Speaker 2: times this week to run the slot, fade and take,
- 23:46Speaker 2: you know, get deep on a defender, and he just
- 23:49Speaker 2: doesn't have a whole lot of pull away speed. And
- 23:51Speaker 2: he's got really short stride length as well, because he's
- 23:54Speaker 2: like five eight five nine and he's five to nine,
- 23:57Speaker 2: so that that's a part of it too, So I
- 24:00Speaker 2: don't think you're going to get much of a vertical
- 24:02Speaker 2: element from him playing in the slot. But again, you know,
- 24:05Speaker 2: like we've been saying with him, if you want to
- 24:07Speaker 2: move the chains, if you want to get that quick
- 24:09Speaker 2: twitch guy on the inside that can create separation, I
- 24:12Speaker 2: still think he can do that. I just see a
- 24:14Speaker 2: lot of it coming at the first two levels, especially
- 24:17Speaker 2: the first level of the defense, and maybe some of
- 24:19Speaker 2: the like screens and scheme touch type of stuff as well.
- 24:23Speaker 1: And I'm I'm not too worried about that because we
- 24:25Speaker 1: know they probably need more than one receiver and can
- 24:27Speaker 1: you go get the vertically divertical guy elsewhere, right or
- 24:33Speaker 1: I for what he is, I still think he's a
- 24:35Speaker 1: good player. But I know you're maybe a little more
- 24:38Speaker 1: interested in Tess Johnson.
- 24:40Speaker 2: Well, Tess Johnson is a fascinating one because you can
- 24:44Speaker 2: just say it, are we doing Taekwon again? Right?
- 24:46Speaker 1: You know where it will well significantly shorter Taekwon Thornton right.
- 24:51Speaker 2: Which is to me that's part of it. Though. Like Taekwon,
- 24:56Speaker 2: Taekwon's issues were that he wasn't just underweight, he was
- 25:01Speaker 2: also rail thin, like he was a stop he was
- 25:04Speaker 2: a stretched out one hundred and eighty pounds, if you
- 25:07Speaker 2: get what I'm saying. Like he he was a tall,
- 25:10Speaker 2: lean individual like that. That that was his big thing,
- 25:14Speaker 2: and so he was he was frail, like he just
- 25:17Speaker 2: didn't have the body to withstand the the NFL in
- 25:20Speaker 2: terms of staying healthy and also just the physicality of
- 25:23Speaker 2: the NFL too, at least to this point. Ye, So
- 25:27Speaker 2: with Teses Johnson, I still have some of those concerns, like.
- 25:31Speaker 1: Fifty six pounds.
- 25:32Speaker 2: Yeah, he's tiny, you know, he's one hundred and fifty
- 25:34Speaker 2: six pounds, there's no doubt, But it's a little bit more.
- 25:38Speaker 2: The way he carries it is a little bit more natural,
- 25:40Speaker 2: if that makes sense, because he's not six one six
- 25:42Speaker 2: y two right like he's He's built a little bit more,
- 25:46Speaker 2: you know, Like Take Dell, you know like that, that's.
- 25:48Speaker 1: Take much bigger than he is. No, to me, the
- 25:50Speaker 1: comparison is Devin Tompkins. And I know you're gonna say
- 25:53Speaker 1: too too at well, but.
- 25:55Speaker 2: Yeah, to two outlaws. Like another one that came to
- 25:57Speaker 2: mind is Take though that much bigger. I mean, I'll
- 26:01Speaker 2: look it up. I don't remember Tank Dell being that
- 26:04Speaker 2: much bigger. But maybe I have it wrong. I mean,
- 26:06Speaker 2: take Dell is five eight one sixty five at the combine,
- 26:09Speaker 2: so he's he was ten pounds heavier I suppose than Johnson.
- 26:16Speaker 2: So the way that he's run routes down here though,
- 26:19Speaker 2: it just reminds me of evolved that I wasn't at
- 26:22Speaker 2: that Senior Bowl when when Tank Dell came out, but
- 26:25Speaker 2: I remember all the us and ohs about Tank Dell's
- 26:28Speaker 2: route running and we watched on TV and stuff like that,
- 26:31Speaker 2: and he put on a show. And I don't know
- 26:33Speaker 2: if Taz Johnson quite did the Tank Dell. But Tate
- 26:36Speaker 2: Tell had an incredible week in mobile to his draft cycle.
- 26:40Speaker 2: But he was really really good today in team in
- 26:44Speaker 2: one on ones. He can't cover him. You know, if
- 26:48Speaker 2: you're not going to be able to be ultra physical
- 26:51Speaker 2: in the safety's not going to come down and knock him. Probably,
- 26:54Speaker 2: Like those are all things that you have to think
- 26:55Speaker 2: about in practice. It doesn't necessarily translate to the game.
- 26:59Speaker 2: But he's fast that he's quick on his feet, he's
- 27:01Speaker 2: got all the separation ability in the world. He's just tiny.
- 27:05Speaker 2: Like so I understand if you're a Patriots fan and
- 27:10Speaker 2: you're a hard no on a player like that, because
- 27:12Speaker 2: of what we've seen with Taekwon, I totally get it.
- 27:17Speaker 2: I'm not going to necessarily argue with you, but just
- 27:19Speaker 2: what has happened with what I've seen with my eyes
- 27:22Speaker 2: over the last two days, there's no question that he's
- 27:25Speaker 2: been the best separator in Mobile.
- 27:26Speaker 1: No, But it's it's more than just that to me,
- 27:29Speaker 1: because what like, he's gonna be a top one hundred pick.
- 27:33Speaker 1: If you could get him later on day three, I'd
- 27:35Speaker 1: be more interested. But he's gonna be a top one
- 27:38Speaker 1: hundred pick. So that's a guy you need a plan
- 27:40Speaker 1: for immediately. What is his assuming we think Josh mctamale's
- 27:45Speaker 1: gonna run it, and we know we talked about this
- 27:47Speaker 1: last week, there's gonna be different wrinkles too with Drake maybe,
- 27:49Speaker 1: but like the same core concepts right, same corps offense.
- 27:53Speaker 1: What's the role for Ted Johnson? It's not the slot
- 27:55Speaker 1: because he can't get one hundred and twenty targets in
- 27:58Speaker 1: a season. He's just not physically, he's not gonna be
- 28:01Speaker 1: able to do that. He's not nacks probably like is
- 28:05Speaker 1: he a Z? But if he's that kind of speed
- 28:07Speaker 1: Z that you know Chris Hogan, Danny Amandola Role. We
- 28:12Speaker 1: already have Pop Douglas, so you're either to me, if
- 28:15Speaker 1: you draft Tes Johnson, it's to move on from Pop Douglas,
- 28:19Speaker 1: which when you have all these other needs and Pop
- 28:22Speaker 1: Douglas is one of your better players, using a top
- 28:25Speaker 1: one hundred pick to replace Pop Douglas doesn't It doesn't
- 28:30Speaker 1: move the needle for me. I think that's a redundant
- 28:33Speaker 1: pick and they need to be adding, not replacing, in
- 28:35Speaker 1: the top one hundred.
- 28:37Speaker 2: It's a valid point. And I look at Tess Johnson
- 28:42Speaker 2: as a receiver that I would say is a runway player,
- 28:46Speaker 2: Like you want to set him up on crossers, on
- 28:49Speaker 2: go routes, on slot fades, anything that you can possibly
- 28:53Speaker 2: do to get that guy in a foot race like that.
- 28:55Speaker 2: That's exactly what you're gonna try to do with him.
- 28:58Speaker 2: You're gonna move him around, you're gonna put him in
- 29:00Speaker 2: you're gonna put him in stacks and bunch alignments and
- 29:02Speaker 2: things like that so he doesn't get pressed, and you're
- 29:05Speaker 2: just going to get him off the line of scrimmage
- 29:07Speaker 2: and let him run like that. That's just ultimately what
- 29:10Speaker 2: he's gonna be. He's shown a little bit more of
- 29:13Speaker 2: you know, horizontal uh, you know, lateral agility than I
- 29:17Speaker 2: thought he had in that tank, Dell Mold. But I
- 29:20Speaker 2: hear you like I I definitely see some similarities in
- 29:23Speaker 2: terms of usage with Pop. I think he's a little
- 29:25Speaker 2: bit longer than Pop, like his catch radius is a
- 29:28Speaker 2: little bit bigger, but he's a similar player overall. And
- 29:31Speaker 2: if you're the Patriots, yeah, if you're worried about that
- 29:35Speaker 2: type of redundancy. Now, I will say I do think
- 29:39Speaker 2: that they're trying to get away from role specific scouting,
- 29:43Speaker 2: you know, just looking at it as this is the
- 29:46Speaker 2: guy's a slot receiver, this guy's a third down back,
- 29:49Speaker 2: that guy's a situational pass rusher, this guy's a mic linebacker.
- 29:53Speaker 2: I do think they're trying to get to more of
- 29:55Speaker 2: a best overall talent type of system and what they're grading.
- 30:00Speaker 2: Elliot Wolf has talked about this on the record before.
- 30:03Speaker 2: Somehow you know, breaking any news here, but that I
- 30:07Speaker 2: do believe is is what they're trying to do with
- 30:10Speaker 2: this new grading.
- 30:11Speaker 1: But there has to be a balance there otherwise you
- 30:13Speaker 1: end up with like ten guards. There has to be
- 30:15Speaker 1: a balance there, and especially if it's a guy in
- 30:17Speaker 1: the top one hundred. Like, it's not just we've talked
- 30:20Speaker 1: about it. It's not just best player available. It's best
- 30:22Speaker 1: player available for the football team, for your specific football team.
- 30:25Speaker 1: And if you think Tess Johnson's a great player, and
- 30:28Speaker 1: then you you know, you get to camp and you're
- 30:30Speaker 1: you're putting the offense together and suddenly you don't have
- 30:33Speaker 1: any place to put them. How's that the best player
- 30:37Speaker 1: available if you don't have a way to get them
- 30:38Speaker 1: on the field, or you're you're now taking Pop Douglas
- 30:40Speaker 1: off the field, who's one of your better players. I
- 30:42Speaker 1: just think that has to be considered.
- 30:45Speaker 2: Yeah, I definitely agree it has to be considered. But
- 30:49Speaker 2: my my rebuttal to that, because you know, I just
- 30:51Speaker 2: I got a need for speed.
- 30:52Speaker 1: You just want you just want to track team.
- 30:55Speaker 2: You just want any guy that can any guy that
- 30:57Speaker 2: can separate. I am on board.
- 30:59Speaker 1: So here's what you do, because go go to Oregon's
- 31:04Speaker 1: track practice and just convince all those guys after the draft.
- 31:07Speaker 2: Oh, is that what they did with Tess Johnson? Because
- 31:09Speaker 2: it's possible that Oregon just did that for me by
- 31:12Speaker 2: putting Tess Johnson on their football team. But just the
- 31:15Speaker 2: last thing i'd say about Tess Johnson just as a
- 31:18Speaker 2: rebuttal teerpoint, because I hear where you're coming from. I
- 31:23Speaker 2: worry that, you know, looking at last year's draft, for example,
- 31:26Speaker 2: we've heard a little bit of this coming out with
- 31:29Speaker 2: reports and things like that that they passed on lad
- 31:31Speaker 2: Mconkey because they felt like he was a slot only
- 31:34Speaker 2: player and that they had that already with Pop Douglas, right.
- 31:38Speaker 2: And I'm not saying that that's necessarily exactly what it was,
- 31:43Speaker 2: but that there's been some reporting out there that that
- 31:46Speaker 2: was the mindset, that they thought that a guy like
- 31:48Speaker 2: Jalen Polk could play a little bit more on the
- 31:50Speaker 2: outside and be a little bit more versatile and all
- 31:52Speaker 2: those types of things. I would just hate to see
- 31:54Speaker 2: them miss out. And I'm not necessarily saying this is
- 31:57Speaker 2: tes Johnson, but maybe it's Luther Burden, maybe it's you know,
- 32:00Speaker 2: somebody else like in this mold as well. I would
- 32:03Speaker 2: hate to see them miss out on that type of
- 32:05Speaker 2: receiving talent simply just because they're sitting there saying, well,
- 32:09Speaker 2: he's redundant to the.
- 32:10Speaker 1: Guy, Yeah, I think Luthor Burden can do more. That's
- 32:13Speaker 1: a different conversation you're gonna get a lot more out
- 32:15Speaker 1: of Luther Burden yard of Tess Johnson. I just think
- 32:18Speaker 1: if I get the Lad McConkey thing, but it shouldn't
- 32:22Speaker 1: be Lad McConkie or Jalen Polk's. It doesn't have to
- 32:26Speaker 1: be one or the other. It's Lad McConkie or Jalen
- 32:30Speaker 1: Polk or Ady Mitchell or Tovandre Sweat or Brandon Coleman,
- 32:37Speaker 1: or like any of these other players that are available. Right,
- 32:41Speaker 1: you could look at it like, all right, so I'm
- 32:43Speaker 1: trying to remember exactly where the board was at that point.
- 32:46Speaker 1: I think Tavandre Silt was still on the board when
- 32:48Speaker 1: they traded down, right, if I remember correctly. I know
- 32:51Speaker 1: he went the pick before, but it was the pick
- 32:53Speaker 1: before they actually took Polk, not the pick before they traded, right.
- 32:58Speaker 1: So anyway, the point being, like, let's say it was
- 33:02Speaker 1: just for the sake of argument thirty eight, Okay, so
- 33:07Speaker 1: they had a chance to take Sweat when they traded down.
- 33:10Speaker 1: So Andandre Sweat's a great player, and they needed a
- 33:14Speaker 1: defensive tackle this year badly. They needed a player like that.
- 33:18Speaker 1: So you know it's not just oh, well, you know,
- 33:21Speaker 1: we don't think this wide receiver is a fit for us,
- 33:23Speaker 1: So we're gonna take a lesser wide receiver. If anything,
- 33:26Speaker 1: it speaks more to the best player available thing. You know,
- 33:28Speaker 1: all right, we think this player is good, but this
- 33:30Speaker 1: player and no other position is also good. And if that, like,
- 33:34Speaker 1: whether or not you have a role for the guy
- 33:35Speaker 1: should absolutely be a tiebreaker. So I if they draft,
- 33:39Speaker 1: if they were to draft Tess Johnson, they're gonna end
- 33:41Speaker 1: up burying somebody. And they just don't have the roster
- 33:43Speaker 1: where they can afford to bury guys. They need to
- 33:45Speaker 1: spread the talent. I get it's like, yeah, we think
- 33:48Speaker 1: this guy can do this. I'm more so approaching it
- 33:50Speaker 1: from from the It's not it's not so much. Yeah, Okay,
- 33:54Speaker 1: they already have a guy that can do this, so
- 33:55Speaker 1: they shouldn't draft Ted Johnson. It's they have so many
- 33:58Speaker 1: things that they the other things that they need filled
- 34:02Speaker 1: that can we look at another position, Can we look
- 34:03Speaker 1: at another skill set? Maybe it's an X receiver right
- 34:06Speaker 1: in that spot that I think they need to consider.
- 34:10Speaker 1: And sure any other wide receivers stand out to you.
- 34:14Speaker 2: Yeah, we can move on from from our Tess Johnson
- 34:17Speaker 2: debate that will probably have fifty hundred more times. So
- 34:21Speaker 2: I thought both Iowa state receivers were decent, Noel and Higgins.
- 34:26Speaker 2: Both those guys I thought stood out for different reasons.
- 34:30Speaker 2: Noel I think is smooth at the top of the route.
- 34:32Speaker 2: It doesn't waste much movement, gets in and out of
- 34:34Speaker 2: the brakes pretty cleanly. You can see that that second
- 34:37Speaker 2: level separation there from him there. And then Jayden Higgins
- 34:41Speaker 2: I thought was really smooth for his size. Like he
- 34:44Speaker 2: came in at six foot four. He's a tall, bigger
- 34:49Speaker 2: receiver six foot four, two hundred and fifteen pounds, and
- 34:53Speaker 2: he's really really smooth for that size. We do this
- 34:58Speaker 2: a lot, and I think it's applicable here. A couple
- 35:02Speaker 2: of years ago. Was like Za Flowers, Josh Downs, Pop
- 35:05Speaker 2: Douglas right right, I would say Teed McMillan is like
- 35:09Speaker 2: that the the what's the word, like the high end
- 35:13Speaker 2: apex prospect for this type of body type and skill set.
- 35:17Speaker 2: Jayden Higgins is like day two TEP McMillan, right, Like
- 35:19Speaker 2: he's he's the guy that's got the size that but
- 35:23Speaker 2: has that size and runs routes like a smaller guy,
- 35:27Speaker 2: but can use that size when called upon, Like it's
- 35:30Speaker 2: not He's not Mike Evans, Like, he's not going to
- 35:32Speaker 2: go in and moss people and stuff like that. It's
- 35:35Speaker 2: not necessarily his game. But I do think he can
- 35:38Speaker 2: use his length and his catch radius when needed. But
- 35:41Speaker 2: he's more a route runner, you know, and that tech McMillan,
- 35:44Speaker 2: Drake London type of mold.
- 35:46Speaker 1: Do you think there like part of conversation around him
- 35:49Speaker 1: this week was he's gonna get type cast is a
- 35:51Speaker 1: big slot in the NFL. Do you think he's broken that?
- 35:55Speaker 2: I don't. He had a really good one on one
- 35:57Speaker 2: rep today on the outside. Awesome, you know, if you
- 36:01Speaker 2: want to be realistic about the type of player that
- 36:04Speaker 2: he used and not get too crazy with the cops.
- 36:07Speaker 2: Yoshiva's on the Bengals is like one guy that kind
- 36:09Speaker 2: of stood out to me as that type of player,
- 36:12Speaker 2: and I think Yoshiva's played a lot in the slot.
- 36:14Speaker 2: But he also had Higgins and Jamar Chase, you know,
- 36:16Speaker 2: on the outside taking up reps there, so maybe that
- 36:19Speaker 2: was just the situation, but those are the types of
- 36:22Speaker 2: guys that I look at for Jid and Higgins. I
- 36:25Speaker 2: don't think that he's a pure plot only guy, but
- 36:29Speaker 2: I can see why people think that that would be
- 36:32Speaker 2: advantageous matchups for him inside. You know, again, if you
- 36:35Speaker 2: can get him on a slot corner who might be
- 36:37Speaker 2: a little bit smaller, and get him on a safety
- 36:39Speaker 2: where he now can win that foot race versus trying
- 36:42Speaker 2: to stack a corner on the outside, I could see
- 36:45Speaker 2: those types of things being advantageous for him. But I
- 36:48Speaker 2: don't think he is just a slot guy because of
- 36:50Speaker 2: his size. Like I think he's got enough size to
- 36:52Speaker 2: play on the perimeter, but you're probably talking about a
- 36:55Speaker 2: piece you're trying to move around. But for all the
- 36:57Speaker 2: reasons why people love tech McMillan to call into our
- 37:01Speaker 2: show all the time and talk about Ted, this is
- 37:04Speaker 2: a tech McMillan. But on day two of this draft,
- 37:08Speaker 2: and I know a lot of people are sick of
- 37:10Speaker 2: doing that, you know, trying to shop at the at
- 37:13Speaker 2: the dollar store or the discount store instead of just
- 37:15Speaker 2: going out and buying the brand name. But I definitely
- 37:18Speaker 2: could see Jayden Higgins playing a similar type of role
- 37:22Speaker 2: in the NFL and doing it pretty well.
- 37:24Speaker 1: You can only take one player top of the draft,
- 37:26Speaker 1: so if it's you know, you got to know who
- 37:28Speaker 1: these guys are later because if it's not if you're not.
- 37:31Speaker 1: If it's not you know, day two Tech mc millan,
- 37:33Speaker 1: and you're looking for day two Abdual Carter or day
- 37:35Speaker 1: two Will Campbell or whatever. Right, I'll give you one
- 37:38Speaker 1: more rector I like. And this is another guy I
- 37:40Speaker 1: like for that volume slot role, although I think he
- 37:42Speaker 1: does have some zero receiver potential. And that's Kyle Williams.
- 37:46Speaker 1: I'll be honest. I was kind of late to him.
- 37:48Speaker 1: I was doing some research before the game and I
- 37:50Speaker 1: was just looking at the roster and I'm looking all
- 37:52Speaker 1: these guys and I start looking at him, and I
- 37:53Speaker 1: start watching him. I think, I text you, I text
- 37:55Speaker 1: some other people and like hyper productive with really bad
- 37:58Speaker 1: quarterback play Washington State. The thing that stands out to
- 38:01Speaker 1: me is not just his ability to accelerate. Not just
- 38:05Speaker 1: his acceleration, is deceleration. He can go from full speed
- 38:08Speaker 1: to a stop like that, and then you can go
- 38:10Speaker 1: from a stop to full speed like that, and it
- 38:12Speaker 1: makes him really dangerous at the top of the route
- 38:14Speaker 1: and off the catch. So I'm looking at him and like, look,
- 38:17Speaker 1: he's a little undersized, like five ten one ninety. He
- 38:21Speaker 1: played in that Pack two didn't have the strongest competition,
- 38:24Speaker 1: But I'm like this, this guy looks like a top
- 38:25Speaker 1: one hundred receiver foringy top one hundred receiver, And I
- 38:28Speaker 1: go to our big board and he's at like eight hundred.
- 38:31Speaker 1: He's I think he's eight thirty. He was the last
- 38:33Speaker 1: ranked receiver on the big board. And then I start
- 38:35Speaker 1: looking out these things to change right right. Well, then
- 38:37Speaker 1: I start like trying to google him and looking on
- 38:39Speaker 1: Twitter and nobody's talking about him, and I'm like, did
- 38:41Speaker 1: I just did I imagine this guy? And it got
- 38:44Speaker 1: to the point where even during the broadcasts today, every
- 38:47Speaker 1: time he was up for one on one, they cut
- 38:49Speaker 1: away like they're gaslighting me into believing this guy exists.
- 38:52Speaker 1: But from what I've seen, he's looked very good. I'm
- 38:54Speaker 1: curious what you think, but I've been very impressed. You
- 38:57Speaker 1: want to talk about like a true sleeper. Again, they
- 38:59Speaker 1: won't even show was once on the broadcast, but you
- 39:02Speaker 1: know they cut back to it later. I see people
- 39:05Speaker 1: in the media posting clips and it looks pretty good.
- 39:08Speaker 2: Yeah. I wrote down his name a couple of times today.
- 39:10Speaker 2: I thought he had some good moments today. Didn't really
- 39:13Speaker 2: see much of him yesterday, didn't really flash a Ton
- 39:16Speaker 2: in the first day of practice, but I thought today
- 39:19Speaker 2: definitely had some good moments. And I would say him
- 39:23Speaker 2: and then the other guy I was going to bring
- 39:25Speaker 2: up to you too is it is Jack Beck from TC.
- 39:30Speaker 1: Yeah, very different players, but he's been good.
- 39:32Speaker 2: Yeah. Both those guys, though, I think did a nice
- 39:35Speaker 2: job this week of finishing through some contact and being
- 39:38Speaker 2: able to just kind of be strong and sturdy with
- 39:41Speaker 2: at the catch point.
- 39:42Speaker 1: Well is like a total catch point monster, like he dominant,
- 39:47Speaker 1: is a monster.
- 39:49Speaker 2: He's a big dude.
- 39:51Speaker 1: He gives me some some Jake Bobo vibes.
- 39:53Speaker 2: Yeah, Yeah, that's a good colm. With Kyle Williams too, though,
- 39:58Speaker 2: I thought I saw some of that, and and I
- 40:01Speaker 2: think that's such an underrated skill in the scouting receivers,
- 40:05Speaker 2: is being able to finish through contact, especially.
- 40:08Speaker 1: Start cut out, especially for a guy like just to
- 40:10Speaker 1: separate them becks like what six two two ten two
- 40:12Speaker 1: fifteen like Williams is a much smaller receiver doing that.
- 40:17Speaker 2: Yeah, Yeah, and I definitely think that there's some of that.
- 40:21Speaker 2: You know, some of these guys get into the NFL
- 40:24Speaker 2: level and you just you can't finish the catch at
- 40:28Speaker 2: the catch point because you're always gonna see good coverage
- 40:31Speaker 2: at the NFL level. It's not gonna be like college
- 40:33Speaker 2: where you're you know, no one's within five yards of
- 40:36Speaker 2: you right at some points, like there's always going to
- 40:38Speaker 2: be somebody in your back pocket and you're gonna have
- 40:41Speaker 2: to finish through contact. The other guy that I thought
- 40:43Speaker 2: that that really well today was Arian Smith from Georgia,
- 40:47Speaker 2: who looked like a Georgia player playing at a college
- 40:50Speaker 2: showcase game today. You know, I had those moments where
- 40:53Speaker 2: it was like, all right, this is like a you know,
- 40:55Speaker 2: four or five star recruit out of high school, like
- 40:57Speaker 2: that type of alpha athlete. Had a great down the
- 41:00Speaker 2: field in one on ones in the end zone where
- 41:03Speaker 2: he climbed the ladder and was able to go and
- 41:06Speaker 2: get the ball. So those types of guys always stand
- 41:09Speaker 2: out to me in these settings, like I love the
- 41:11Speaker 2: Tess Johnson's I just talked about him for five minutes.
- 41:14Speaker 2: But at the end of the day at the NFL,
- 41:15Speaker 2: you know you're gonna have Christian Zalez in your back
- 41:17Speaker 2: pocket and training camp, and the question is, you know,
- 41:20Speaker 2: can you finish the job at when the ball is
- 41:22Speaker 2: targeted when you're throwing at the football. And I thought
- 41:25Speaker 2: I saw a little bit of that from those.
- 41:26Speaker 1: Guys tight ends. The big story arguments. One of the
- 41:31Speaker 1: bigger stories of the week has been Elijah Royo, And
- 41:33Speaker 1: for me coming in, you know, I didn't really know
- 41:35Speaker 1: what to expect from him. He had a good season
- 41:38Speaker 1: at Miami, but there's a lot of attention played to Ristrepo.
- 41:41Speaker 1: Teams are doing, you know, they're blitzing cam Ward or
- 41:44Speaker 1: spine kim wardon things like that. A lot of his
- 41:45Speaker 1: production felt like, I don't want to say, a byproduct
- 41:48Speaker 1: of other people getting attention, but it was all right,
- 41:51Speaker 1: what does he look like when he is the guy?
- 41:54Speaker 1: Like he was the guy to me. We try not
- 41:56Speaker 1: to use one on ones too much, but he's a
- 41:57Speaker 1: guy that I think one on ones are big for
- 42:00Speaker 1: and he's been excellent. He's just been dominant and he's
- 42:04Speaker 1: the guy that's gonna fly up draft boards. But for
- 42:06Speaker 1: a team that you know, day three developmental tight end,
- 42:10Speaker 1: if he stays on day three, certainly feels like he
- 42:13Speaker 1: checks that box.
- 42:15Speaker 2: Yeah. Here. He reminds me a little bit enough as
- 42:18Speaker 2: Jared Wiley last year from TCU, just like an athletic
- 42:22Speaker 2: past catching tight end. I'm not sure I see a
- 42:24Speaker 2: ton of blocking up side there with him. But he's
- 42:27Speaker 2: gonna be able to run routes and he's gonna be
- 42:28Speaker 2: able to get open, you know, with that body type
- 42:33Speaker 2: is rare. He's got great straight line speed too.
- 42:36Speaker 1: I mean he's yea and all of he's fast.
- 42:39Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 42:39Speaker 2: These analytic all these analytic models that they're they're trying
- 42:42Speaker 2: to pump up here at the Senior Bowl are all
- 42:44Speaker 2: giving him really high mark so he can really run. Uh.
- 42:48Speaker 2: You know, some of the one on ones have definitely
- 42:50Speaker 2: been you know, stick nod like double move type of
- 42:53Speaker 2: routes and things like that, where you know he's shaking guys.
- 42:56Speaker 2: But you see that ability, you know, the change of
- 42:59Speaker 2: direction skill there, and the strength line speed to be
- 43:03Speaker 2: a productive pass catching tight end potentially. I definitely think
- 43:07Speaker 2: he's a move like, you know, uh type of tight end.
- 43:10Speaker 2: I don't think you're going to put the hand of
- 43:11Speaker 2: the dirt and have him block very many defensive ends
- 43:15Speaker 2: or outside linebackers at the next level. But if you're
- 43:19Speaker 2: looking for that that developmental tight end with some athletic upside,
- 43:23Speaker 2: with some receiving upside, Arroyo definitely fits that bill. I think,
- 43:27Speaker 2: you know, there's been a lot of really good tight ends.
- 43:29Speaker 2: The one guy that is hasn't really popped a ton
- 43:32Speaker 2: of fan in though you know, I thought he would
- 43:34Speaker 2: be a little bit better.
- 43:36Speaker 1: He he looks more like a big slot receiver at
- 43:39Speaker 1: this point.
- 43:40Speaker 2: Yeah, he hasn't done a ton like I think that,
- 43:42Speaker 2: you know, with the really the entire national roster, the
- 43:47Speaker 2: early practice for people watching it on tv U, the receivers,
- 43:51Speaker 2: both tight ends and and wide receivers. You know, the
- 43:53Speaker 2: pass catchers have just been a lot better on that team.
- 43:56Speaker 2: I would say, uh, they're just better on paper even,
- 43:59Speaker 2: but I would you know, Terrence Ferguson from Oregon, I
- 44:02Speaker 2: think is the guy that stood out as like the
- 44:04Speaker 2: number two guy behind a Royo and in this tight
- 44:07Speaker 2: end group here in Mobile. You know, I don't think
- 44:10Speaker 2: it's been fannin which I don't know, maybe he just
- 44:13Speaker 2: trust the tape on the guy like that. But when
- 44:15Speaker 2: he goes when you go to Bowling Green and then
- 44:18Speaker 2: you come up here, you're playing against yeah, better competition,
- 44:22Speaker 2: and Ferguson I thought, has done a lot of really
- 44:26Speaker 2: good things as well. And I think he can maybe
- 44:28Speaker 2: block a little bit better than the Royo can, but
- 44:31Speaker 2: probably doesn't have the straight line speed and athleticism, but
- 44:34Speaker 2: he's certainly a good athlete and he's got a lot
- 44:37Speaker 2: of those same skills. You know, big guy, good catch radius,
- 44:41Speaker 2: finishes through contact, runs, good routes, you know, clean route runner.
- 44:45Speaker 2: I like him too. I mean it's a good class.
- 44:47Speaker 2: It's a good class it is.
- 44:49Speaker 1: I like Mason Taylor. I think he's been really good
- 44:51Speaker 1: if you want that. Just like blocking tight end. I've
- 44:54Speaker 1: kind of looked at this too. Do they just go
- 44:55Speaker 1: on Day three and say we want a third tight
- 44:57Speaker 1: end we can put in on the goal line, put
- 44:58Speaker 1: in when we want to go heavy. And Jackson Hawes
- 45:02Speaker 1: from Georgia Tech, he even got a call out today
- 45:05Speaker 1: when they did those one on ones at the end,
- 45:07Speaker 1: like it was all offensive lineman and then Jackson Hawes
- 45:10Speaker 1: and I think he lost the rep. But like just
- 45:12Speaker 1: the fact that the edge rushers, because I think the
- 45:15Speaker 1: players get to call each other out, right, Like you
- 45:17Speaker 1: want to go against the lineman. You'd thinked in order
- 45:19Speaker 1: to set yourself up for the biggest pop. But I
- 45:22Speaker 1: want to go up against this guy. And I thought
- 45:23Speaker 1: this was interesting. Here's what you thought of this. Somebody
- 45:27Speaker 1: on the broadcast today, don't remember who it was. Somebody
- 45:29Speaker 1: on the broadcast talking about Gavin Bartholomew from pitt and
- 45:32Speaker 1: called him a Jason Witten starter kit.
- 45:35Speaker 2: Okay, let's calm down.
- 45:37Speaker 1: He said starter kit. He said starter kit?
- 45:40Speaker 2: Okay, does that mean?
- 45:41Speaker 1: Like?
- 45:43Speaker 2: What does that mean?
- 45:44Speaker 1: I assume that means like he has all the tools
- 45:46Speaker 1: to be Jason Witten, but he needs to be coached
- 45:48Speaker 1: up into it.
- 45:50Speaker 2: He has all the tools to be a Hall of
- 45:51Speaker 2: Fame tight End got it all right.
- 45:53Speaker 1: So you disagree. I thought it was a little strong.
- 45:57Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a little it's a little strong. I think
- 45:59Speaker 2: the three guys that we mentioned that that position have
- 46:01Speaker 2: been the ones mostly that have popped for me at
- 46:04Speaker 2: tight End. Ferguson Arroyo, Mason Taylor, who I think has
- 46:08Speaker 2: been solid from LSU, Gunner Hilm today, I haven't seen
- 46:12Speaker 2: a ton of Gunner Helm. I don't think he practiced.
- 46:17Speaker 1: Might he might have opted out. I've been trying to
- 46:18Speaker 1: keep track of ye.
- 46:20Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, and the other bringing stool from cleansing. I
- 46:27Speaker 2: wouldn't say I'm like overlaid into it, but he has
- 46:32Speaker 2: those three guys Taylor, Arroyo and and Ferguson have been
- 46:36Speaker 2: the three best tight ends. But when you put that
- 46:39Speaker 2: on top of you know, the guys that were at
- 46:40Speaker 2: the Trine, Yeah, obviously Tyler Warren. Like you know, it's
- 46:44Speaker 2: a really good class. It's a really good class.
- 46:46Speaker 1: All right. I haven't say something nice about one of
- 46:47Speaker 1: the running backs or more than one if you want.
- 46:51Speaker 2: I gotta admit there's been two running backs and you're
- 46:54Speaker 2: gonna love this. There's been two running backs that I liked.
- 46:57Speaker 2: I guess that I've been pretty you can. I don't
- 46:59Speaker 2: know if you'll get it right, but.
- 47:00Speaker 1: I think one of them has got to be Donovan Edwards. Yeah,
- 47:03Speaker 1: because of what he's done. There's people are saying, like
- 47:05Speaker 1: draft him as a slot receiver, which I think is
- 47:07Speaker 1: a little bit too far, but he's been really good.
- 47:11Speaker 1: I would love for the other one to be Ollie Gordon,
- 47:13Speaker 1: but it's not. I'm just gonna guess my favorite receiving
- 47:16Speaker 1: back there, which is Quinn Allen.
- 47:19Speaker 2: I know it's not, but yeah, but that's a that's
- 47:22Speaker 2: a good shout. Like, He's definitely had a decent week.
- 47:24Speaker 2: I I it wasn't him, So Edwards is definitely one.
- 47:29Speaker 2: Devin Neil from Kansas to the other you like, do you.
- 47:32Speaker 1: Like a five eleven, two hundred twenty five pound running back.
- 47:35Speaker 1: I would not have seen that.
- 47:36Speaker 2: Look at look at me, look at me, look at
- 47:38Speaker 2: the growth right now and pressed Devin. Neil had him
- 47:44Speaker 2: run today where he had some space, but he was
- 47:48Speaker 2: one on one with a linebacker and he just went
- 47:50Speaker 2: right up the sideline around.
- 47:52Speaker 1: Oh, I know what you're talking about. That was good.
- 47:54Speaker 2: Yeah, I turned it into a really nice run and
- 47:56Speaker 2: I was like, all right, there's some juice there for
- 47:58Speaker 2: a bigger compact guy. That. That was what I liked
- 48:01Speaker 2: about Edwards and about Neil the most is that I
- 48:04Speaker 2: think both those guys are built like NFL running backs,
- 48:07Speaker 2: like guys that can withstand yeah, some some volume, you know,
- 48:11Speaker 2: and and be able to tote the rock a little
- 48:13Speaker 2: bit and and not have to worry about a ton
- 48:16Speaker 2: of injuries like I think. You know, Marx from USC
- 48:19Speaker 2: has has been solid as Brishard Smith has had some
- 48:23Speaker 2: moments from smu uh, you know, he's been a kay.
- 48:26Speaker 2: Marcus Yams from Delaware has had some moments. But those
- 48:30Speaker 2: two guys, to me, Neil and Edwards look like they
- 48:33Speaker 2: are our dudes that that could really take it and
- 48:37Speaker 2: and be a volume ish back or at least being
- 48:40Speaker 2: a committee of running backs. And this group hasn't disappointed.
- 48:44Speaker 2: I mean it's a great running back class. Uh, and
- 48:47Speaker 2: it hasn't disappointed. I think all these guys have had
- 48:50Speaker 2: their moments for the most part. But I really like Edwards.
- 48:53Speaker 2: I think Edwards is h is a really nice player. Uh,
- 48:57Speaker 2: probably a complimentary back to you know, in the platoon
- 49:01Speaker 2: or something like that. But you know, there's some really
- 49:03Speaker 2: good running backs that have been here in the last
- 49:04Speaker 2: couple of years, and he's one of those guys.
- 49:06Speaker 1: Well, if they're gonna go back to that early down,
- 49:09Speaker 1: passing down back dynamic, right, I think you mentioned what
- 49:13Speaker 1: he marks the Quinn Allen if we're gonna do the
- 49:15Speaker 1: whole next James White thing, those are guys that kind
- 49:17Speaker 1: of profile that way. Donovan Edwards is like, stick with
- 49:21Speaker 1: me for this comparison. He's kind of like a souped
- 49:24Speaker 1: up Rex Burkhead. And what I mean by that is
- 49:26Speaker 1: rexor rex Burkehead could go. He was one of the
- 49:30Speaker 1: few guys that could go back and forth. He could
- 49:32Speaker 1: play an early down role, he could be a receiving
- 49:34Speaker 1: down role. And you know, if you're gonna draft Donovan Edwards,
- 49:37Speaker 1: I wouldn't he could bat like so the way they
- 49:40Speaker 1: haven't set up now right, Ramondre is probably gonna be
- 49:42Speaker 1: the early down back, and you figure Antonio Gibson is
- 49:45Speaker 1: going to be your passing down back, and then if
- 49:48Speaker 1: you were to draft on of An Edwards, he can
- 49:49Speaker 1: be the backup for both, whereas if not, you need
- 49:52Speaker 1: to get a backup for each spot. So I like
- 49:55Speaker 1: Edwards in that role, but I'm looking at some of
- 49:56Speaker 1: the early down guys too. I still can't quit Olie
- 49:59Speaker 1: Gordon Evan. He was just so good in twenty twenty three,
- 50:03Speaker 1: and I think there were forces outside of his control
- 50:06Speaker 1: that led to the depth he had this season. He
- 50:09Speaker 1: he looks like an edge rusher. He looks like he
- 50:11Speaker 1: should be lining up and rushing off the edge. He's massive,
- 50:14Speaker 1: and yeah, we know Mike Rabel has now He's not
- 50:17Speaker 1: Derek Henry, He's not two hundred and sixty pounds with
- 50:19Speaker 1: all the muscle. But we know Mike Rabel has experienced
- 50:22Speaker 1: with kind of those oversized running backs. And I just
- 50:25Speaker 1: I think somebody's gonna get a steal because Ollie Gordon
- 50:28Speaker 1: with this class is gonna fall to day three and
- 50:31Speaker 1: somebody's gonna get an absolute steal with him and you
- 50:33Speaker 1: know him platooning with Ramandra Stevenson in that early down role,
- 50:38Speaker 1: I think would be electric before we wrap up the offense.
- 50:42Speaker 1: Unless you have any other thoughts on the running backs.
- 50:45Speaker 2: No, I think I've done enough on running back.
- 50:47Speaker 1: Right well, no, now we're gonna do it. Now, we're
- 50:48Speaker 1: gonna do the one you really want to talk about,
- 50:49Speaker 1: which is quarterbacks. To one big quarterback takeaway for me
- 50:54Speaker 1: and I said, going in for Patriots fans, what you're
- 50:56Speaker 1: watching at quarterback is does anybody have that ride? Does
- 51:00Speaker 1: anybody have that push up the board? You know, Will
- 51:02Speaker 1: Howard didn't end up going, which I get, so you know,
- 51:04Speaker 1: is it Jalen Millrow, is it Jackson Dart? Was somebody
- 51:06Speaker 1: gonna push their way up the board, maybe into the
- 51:08Speaker 1: top ten, change the value of that fourth overall pick. No, No,
- 51:13Speaker 1: that's that has not happened to this point. It has
- 51:15Speaker 1: been a rough couple of days for the quarterbacks. Although
- 51:19Speaker 1: my guy el Gerzma is hanging in there. He's made
- 51:21Speaker 1: a couple of throws.
- 51:22Speaker 2: So I this this quarterback group. I'm sorry. I don't
- 51:29Speaker 2: like to say this about players because I try to
- 51:32Speaker 2: be nicer. But this quarterback group has been awful.
- 51:35Speaker 1: It's been real, it's been awful, and some.
- 51:37Speaker 2: Of it, you know, I get it. I didn't think
- 51:40Speaker 2: that Michael Pennix or Boon Nicks was awesome down here
- 51:44Speaker 2: last year either, because it's you never worked with these receivers.
- 51:48Speaker 2: You're in these like abbreviated offenses that you're learning on
- 51:51Speaker 2: the fly. The timing, the rhythm of the passing game
- 51:54Speaker 2: is there's no way it's gonna be there. There's just
- 51:56Speaker 2: no way. But that being said, Joe Milton was better
- 52:01Speaker 2: last year down here. And I don't say that as
- 52:03Speaker 2: like a knock on our boy Joe Milton. I'm just
- 52:04Speaker 2: saying like that he would have been the best quarterback
- 52:08Speaker 2: in Mobile this year based off his practice performance last year, Right,
- 52:12Speaker 2: Like that makes any sense? Uh, It's just been really
- 52:15Speaker 2: really rough for the entire Like, I can't really think
- 52:18Speaker 2: of one notable throw. I think Riley Leonard has probably
- 52:22Speaker 2: been the best, which is not saying much.
- 52:26Speaker 1: Yesterday, Okay, your boy, you're give me give me one
- 52:30Speaker 1: thing cause I'm not there, Like I can't watch everything.
- 52:32Speaker 1: Give me one thing on him.
- 52:35Speaker 2: He made a really nice throw rolling right on the
- 52:39Speaker 2: sideline that you texted me about when it happened because
- 52:41Speaker 2: they were so excited and that that was a really nice.
- 52:44Speaker 1: Because I know you're not watching him, so I to
- 52:46Speaker 1: make sure you notice it.
- 52:49Speaker 2: Jalen Milroth throws a really nice ball like he can
- 52:54Speaker 2: really rip it but doesn't know where it's going, and
- 52:57Speaker 2: it's not he can rip it, but he's not Joe
- 52:58Speaker 2: Milton rip it right like it's not Zuka. It's it's
- 53:01Speaker 2: a good arm though he's got he's got plus arm talent,
- 53:03Speaker 2: there's no doubt about that. And when he has no
- 53:05Speaker 2: pass rush and he's just throwing one on ones, Jackson
- 53:08Speaker 2: Dart's the best, the best pass like if you do
- 53:11Speaker 2: if you took away the pass rush and he took
- 53:13Speaker 2: away the part of the that he has to read
- 53:15Speaker 2: the field and go through progressions and all that kind
- 53:17Speaker 2: of stuff and you just have him throw go balls
- 53:19Speaker 2: one on one, then Jackson Dart can can sling it right,
- 53:23Speaker 2: he can, he can twirl it, but he's he's got
- 53:26Speaker 2: no all the other elements of the game or lost
- 53:29Speaker 2: on and.
- 53:29Speaker 1: That's that's all the ole miss offenses. Go balls. So
- 53:33Speaker 1: as these guys get ready for their NFL shot. I
- 53:35Speaker 1: will ask you out there listening, are you getting ready
- 53:38Speaker 1: for the big game? Create your own winning, winning watch

- 54:16Speaker 1: these guys are to.
- 54:17Speaker 2: Have our listener's grade. Are our read skills?
- 54:21Speaker 1: You don't want You don't want that answer I've seen
- 54:23Speaker 1: in the comments. You don't want that answer unless you
- 54:27Speaker 1: want to be done with the responsibility of it. You
- 54:29Speaker 1: don't want that answer in the chat. Who's better at
- 54:31Speaker 1: the Adreids? Uh? Before we get to the defense, Patty
- 54:34Speaker 1: and Sean Havevan hanging on for a while. I gotta
- 54:36Speaker 1: remember how to take these calls. It's the one all
- 54:38Speaker 1: the way on the left, right, Matt. I don't want
- 54:40Speaker 1: to hang up on these people. They've been on on
- 54:42Speaker 1: on long enough. But this says air air okay, so
- 54:45Speaker 1: I'm on. I can't read that from here. The text
- 54:49Speaker 1: is tiny and I'm even wear my glasses on the show.
- 54:53Speaker 1: So maybe I'm better at the area. But Evan's better
- 54:56Speaker 1: at answering the phones. That's undoubtable. Patty and Ago on,
- 54:59Speaker 1: what's up? Patty?
- 55:01Speaker 2: What's up? Guys?
- 55:02Speaker 3: Than you doing good? Hey, Evan, Alex told you months
- 55:07Speaker 3: ago to take a look at are at the nursery,
- 55:09Speaker 3: and now you're you're getting a front row speed you know. Yeah,
- 55:13Speaker 3: that's awesome. He's one of the guys that intrigues me.
- 55:17Speaker 3: But you guys kind of hit the kind of hit
- 55:19Speaker 3: what I wanted to ask you guys about, which is
- 55:22Speaker 3: like I want to We're obviously not going to get
- 55:25Speaker 3: one of the top two tight ends off the board,
- 55:28Speaker 3: but I wanted I want to just you know, you
- 55:30Speaker 3: went over Elijah Royo, but also I wanted to ask
- 55:33Speaker 3: you about Mason Taylor, which is thought of him? And
- 55:35Speaker 3: do you think he would be a good fit here?
- 55:38Speaker 3: And I had another question, but damn it, I can't
- 55:40Speaker 3: remember it. But that's it. I'll take it off their guys.
- 55:42Speaker 1: We'll get in next week thanks to the call, Patty Evan.
- 55:45Speaker 1: Any anything more on Mason Taylor. We did kind of
- 55:47Speaker 1: just glide by him. He's looking like a top one
- 55:49Speaker 1: hundred picks, so that still maybe a little high for
- 55:51Speaker 1: the Patriots at tight end, but if they really like him,
- 55:54Speaker 1: you know, it could make some sense, especially if Austin
- 55:57Speaker 1: Hooper leaves in free agency suddenly, that that pick makes
- 56:01Speaker 1: a lot more sense. Mason Taylor at maybe like seventy seven.
- 56:04Speaker 1: Your your thoughts on him? Also, just seeing Jason Taylor
- 56:08Speaker 1: there talking about him made me feel old and I
- 56:09Speaker 1: hated that.
- 56:11Speaker 2: Oh god, he didn't even put that connections.
- 56:13Speaker 1: Jason Taylor's son.
- 56:15Speaker 2: Oh my good Yes, okay, I know that hurts, right,
- 56:18Speaker 2: that hurts. That makes me a little bit queasy. Yeah. No,
- 56:23Speaker 2: he he had a really good day today, a really
- 56:25Speaker 2: good day today. Catches everything really really good. You know,
- 56:30Speaker 2: tough guy over the middle can separate a little bit,
- 56:33Speaker 2: kind of is a little bit. He's cheeky about it, right,
- 56:37Speaker 2: Like he he pushes off, but he doesn't push off,
- 56:39Speaker 2: you know, he kind of uses his body to box
- 56:42Speaker 2: out and make that a little bit of separation at
- 56:44Speaker 2: the top of the route without getting penal eyed for it.
- 56:47Speaker 2: There are refs here throwing flags, so.
- 56:49Speaker 1: Like, oh, they're they're throwing those flags all right, yeah.
- 56:52Speaker 2: Oh yeah, there are lots of flags. So yeah, no,
- 56:55Speaker 2: I like what I saw to him. I would like
- 56:58Speaker 2: to see if he plays, assuming you will while playing
- 57:01Speaker 2: the game, maybe I can really watch that more closely
- 57:04Speaker 2: on the tape and see his blocking. But in terms
- 57:07Speaker 2: of the receiving, there's something there. I think there's some
- 57:10Speaker 2: upside and it makes sense. You know, Dave was really
- 57:12Speaker 2: athletic guy that he's a pretty athletic pass catcher, So
- 57:16Speaker 2: I don't know. You know, when you look at this class,
- 57:18Speaker 2: it can go one of two ways, saying with the
- 57:20Speaker 2: running backs, like, either there's like an insane run in
- 57:23Speaker 2: the top one hundred on all these tight ends and
- 57:25Speaker 2: they all get drafted high, or you know, the depth
- 57:28Speaker 2: of the class pushes some guys down. I guess it
- 57:30Speaker 2: depends on which way it goes.
- 57:32Speaker 1: Sean in Vancouver has been hanging on, Sean, what's going on?
- 57:36Speaker 4: Hey, guys, I want to talk about the coaching. I've
- 57:40Speaker 4: been looking at some of the coaching and listening to
- 57:42Speaker 4: some people talk about some of the offensive coaches have
- 57:46Speaker 4: a bit of a West Coast background, and I'm wondering
- 57:49Speaker 4: about the schemes. I'm wondering if Josh mccannel's will we'll
- 57:52Speaker 4: stick to more of the gap downhill run schemes with
- 57:59Speaker 4: the Marriswell play action, or is it gonna mix in
- 58:03Speaker 4: more of the zone blocking that we've seen in the
- 58:05Speaker 4: past couple of years, which I think was kind of
- 58:08Speaker 4: a miss on a scheme fit, Like I don't think
- 58:12Speaker 4: the players really were able to execute that as well.
- 58:15Speaker 4: So I'll leave you for that answer.
- 58:18Speaker 1: Thanks, Sean. Evan, what do you think on that? And
- 58:20Speaker 1: also just your reaction to any of the recent coaching
- 58:23Speaker 1: hires or guys that are reported moving on.
- 58:26Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a fair question. I think. What's where I
- 58:30Speaker 2: come at it with this West Coast thing is I
- 58:33Speaker 2: feel like the West Coast offense you have to talk
- 58:35Speaker 2: about the two branches, and we've talked a little bit
- 58:37Speaker 2: about this on the show already, but you have like
- 58:40Speaker 2: the Shanahan Tree right, Kyle Shanahan, Sean McVay, Matt Lafore.
- 58:44Speaker 2: You have that side of the branch, which is under center,
- 58:48Speaker 2: outside zone, moving pockets, bootlegs, you know, shots down the field,
- 58:52Speaker 2: off play action like that. That side of it that
- 58:56Speaker 2: that dresses that all up with motion and all that
- 58:58Speaker 2: kind of stuff. And then there's the other side of it,
- 59:01Speaker 2: which is more like Dandy Reid, Doug Peterson, Frank Reich
- 59:05Speaker 2: version of the West Coast offense that really is more
- 59:08Speaker 2: of like a spread offense, like it's you know, I
- 59:11Speaker 2: think Lombardi likes to call it West Coast College right,
- 59:13Speaker 2: like it's a West Coast boot roots. Mike Holmgren likes
- 59:18Speaker 2: all of this goes back to Bill Walsh, like it's
- 59:20Speaker 2: that side of it, but it's got a lot of
- 59:24Speaker 2: spread elements where the quarterback is in shotgun and they're
- 59:28Speaker 2: running gun run and they're running RPO and they're running
- 59:31Speaker 2: motion off that and all that kind of stuff. So
- 59:34Speaker 2: a guy like Thomas Brown, who is just reportedly right
- 59:38Speaker 2: now a Patriots higher not official, but a guy like
- 59:42Speaker 2: Thomas Brown has done both. He was obviously with the
- 59:48Speaker 2: Rams for a little while with Sean McVay worked a
- 59:52Speaker 2: couple different positions. There was the assistant head coach at
- 59:55Speaker 2: one point for the Rams, but he's also worked with
- 59:58Speaker 2: Frank Reich in Carolina, uh and you know has done
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: that side of the of the tree as well. So
- 1:00:05Speaker 2: are they bringing in a guy like Thomas Brown who's
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: supposedly gonna have the pass game coordinator title. Are they
- 1:00:11Speaker 2: bringing in that guy to be to Shanahana the offense
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: or are they bringing that guy into Andy Reid the
- 1:00:17Speaker 2: offense right again, that's gonna be the big question. My guess,
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: just based off of Drake May is that they're bringing
- 1:00:25Speaker 2: him in to Andy Reid the offense, and they want
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: to build something that looks a little bit more like
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: what we see in Kansas City what we see in
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: Philadelphia with the quarterback and the shotgun and a lot
- 1:00:36Speaker 2: of that early down option stuff that those teams do.
- 1:00:39Speaker 2: I don't know if you people notice, but in the
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: AFC Championship game last week, the entire opening script from
- 1:00:47Speaker 2: Kansas City was RPO like right down the field.
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: I think it was like nine of the first twelve
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: plays something like that.
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: Yeah, just just rp O them to death zone team
- 1:00:56Speaker 2: and you expect in Buffalo you're gonna play a lot
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: of zone coverages and let's just mess with the linebackers,
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: right and you know, play with their eyes. That that
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: was their entire plan to open the AFC Championship game.
- 1:01:07Speaker 2: So that's where I would go. I hope was where
- 1:01:10Speaker 2: they're gonna go because Drake, you know, Drake May is
- 1:01:13Speaker 2: to me is at his best as a gun quarterback,
- 1:01:16Speaker 2: So I don't necessarily want to live with him under
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: center like McDaniels has done in the past, or like
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: that that side of the tree does. But I think
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: we're too quick and I'm not saying Sean, but just
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: in general, I think we're too quick right now to
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: label all West Coast as Shanahan right, like all of
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: it is outside zone, under center, bootlegs, things like that,
- 1:01:38Speaker 2: when there's this whole other branch of the West Coast
- 1:01:40Speaker 2: with Andy Reid and with Doug Peterson and Frank Reig.
- 1:01:43Speaker 2: So that's what I'm hoping for. But we'll see, We'll
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: see what they end up doing. I talked to Brabel
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: yesterday the pieces up on Patriots dot Com to want
- 1:01:51Speaker 2: to read it, and he hammered that that there's gonna
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: be this is not going to be the Tom Brady offense.
- 1:01:56Speaker 2: You know, there's gonna be differences. There's gonna be I
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: think he called new innovations, you know, to this scheme.
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: And one of the things that really encouraged me about
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: that interview and about what he said about McDaniels is
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: that he went into the interview process and they discussed
- 1:02:11Speaker 2: all these things in depth about Okay, this is what
- 1:02:14Speaker 2: you're he called it your history, right like, this is
- 1:02:17Speaker 2: what you've done in the past, schematically, this is where
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: we want to go, and you know, how are you
- 1:02:24Speaker 2: going to get us there? And he point blank said
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: this quarterback is different from other quarterbacks that they've had here.
- 1:02:30Speaker 2: You know, this is not Mac Jones, right like, this
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: is a different type of quarterback and they want to
- 1:02:35Speaker 2: do different things with Drake May than maybe what Josh
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: McDaniels did with Brady or Mac or Derek Carr or whatever.
- 1:02:41Speaker 2: So I'm encouraged by a lot of things that they
- 1:02:44Speaker 2: that Rabel had to say about Josh. I think their
- 1:02:47Speaker 2: head is in the right place in terms of trying
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: to change this offense and update it a little bit.
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: And I think just to the Color's point, specifically, when
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: you talk about you know, how's that going to work
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: with gappern Zone Run. Like Thomas Brown, the Reporter is
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: pass game courting, right, So maybe more of that stuff's
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: in the past game than in the run game. And
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: obviously it's got to be married together. You can't be
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: running Gap Run and then all your play actions built
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: off Zone. But you know, maybe the idea is to
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: kind of try to blend those two things together whatever
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: they call you on and be confident about it. Confidence
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: it's also important to have when you're on the road
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: with Bridgestone tires on your car, truck, suv, or minivan,
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: you're riding on tires you can trust Bridgestone tires or
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: engineered to give you peace of mind so you can
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: focus on enjoying the journey. So whether you're on your
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: morning commute, across country road trip, or relaxing Sunday drive,
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: Bridgestone Tires will be with you wherever life's roads may lead.
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: Bridge Stone Solutions for your journey available now at Sullivan Tire.
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: All right, let's get back to the Senior Bowl defense.
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: Let's just start up front, because it's there's been a
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: lot of overlap UH defensive tackles, defensive ends outside linebackers.
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: Who from that group has has wowed you the most?
- 1:03:56Speaker 2: Who has?
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: That's a good answer.
- 1:04:00Speaker 2: This is what a group like, what a what a
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: fun group to watch? I just think that there's across
- 1:04:06Speaker 2: the board this group has just been outstanding. Like if
- 1:04:09Speaker 2: we just start with the Interier defensive line Peebles from
- 1:04:14Speaker 2: Virginia Tech, Darius Alexander, your boy Dion Walker, I think
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: all those guys have been good. Cam Jackson from Florida
- 1:04:22Speaker 2: had a nice day today. Walter Nolan got hurt. It's
- 1:04:25Speaker 2: i think during practice today, so they didn't practice, but
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: it was was decent yesterday. If you want to look
- 1:04:31Speaker 2: at Interier guys and one of the things that fascinates
- 1:04:33Speaker 2: me about how you know, we move forward here. I
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: wrote a little bit about this earlier in the week
- 1:04:38Speaker 2: before I came down here, about you know, the four
- 1:04:40Speaker 2: to three defense and the Patriots being a little bit
- 1:04:43Speaker 2: more one gap, you know, single gap up the field,
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: you know, trying to make more plays behind the line
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: of scrimmage and be more aggressive. I think this group
- 1:04:51Speaker 2: had even though you know Dion Walker is certainly the opposite, Like,
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: this group had a lot of those types of guys
- 1:04:56Speaker 2: you know if you wanted that type of player. I
- 1:04:59Speaker 2: think that Alexander Peebles, Walter Nolan, I think all three
- 1:05:05Speaker 2: of those guys fit that mold of like let's shoot gaps,
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: let's get up the field, let's make plays behind the
- 1:05:11Speaker 2: line of scrimmage, And all three of those guys looked
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: really good.
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that that interior group, especially I'll just
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: say on Walker, because I spent a lot of time
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: last week hyping him up. I think you've more or
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: less gotten the full picture with him, and you see
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: why he's so hyped, but why he's not a first
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: round pick, and why those concerns are there. He has
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: all the physical tools in the world, but using them correctly,
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: using them consistently, Like he still gets beat at times
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: by players who really don't expect him to get beat
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: by the guy that's really impressed me. So if we're
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: gonna do again the draft heres thing, Mason Graham is
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: your first round this aggressive penetrating interior alignment. Dion Walker
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: is the day two guy. Cam Jackson from is probably
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: the day three guy in that regard. Sixty six then
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: came into three P. Fifty three if I remember correctly,
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: and he's been awesome. He's been great. And his explosiveness
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: and quickness, his ability to win initially and then quick
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: movements with his hands and feet to you know, turn
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: what might be an early edge into a full on
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: dominant win really stands out for a guy his size.
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: He's not just out there bullying people. He can do it.
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: We've seen him do it. It's in his bag. But his toolbox,
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: at least from what I've seen this week, is a
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: lot more developed than what I was expecting from him.
- 1:06:35Speaker 2: Yeah, Dion Walker, I mean he plays a little high,
- 1:06:38Speaker 2: like his paths definitely get up. I know that's been
- 1:06:40Speaker 2: a criticism for him across the board, and you can
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: see that and that probably SAPs some of his power
- 1:06:46Speaker 2: that should be there at his size that isn't always
- 1:06:49Speaker 2: there consistently. But he had a running team drills today
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: where like three four plays in a row he was
- 1:06:55Speaker 2: just wrecking stuff, you know, like he was just in
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: the backfield and making things happen. And then he's so
- 1:07:00Speaker 2: strong and in his upper body that when he gets
- 1:07:03Speaker 2: extended and he starts walking guards and centers back into
- 1:07:07Speaker 2: the line, uh, you know, back into the pocket, it's
- 1:07:09Speaker 2: it's over. Right, you know, you're on, You're on, You're
- 1:07:12Speaker 2: on the tracks like it's done. Uh yeah, I thought
- 1:07:14Speaker 2: Cam Jackson was really good today too, in a similar mold.
- 1:07:18Speaker 2: But all these guys on the interior, I think I've
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: had their moments for the most part. Uh you know,
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: just looking at the group and it's it's really impressive.
- 1:07:26Speaker 2: And I thought, especially during the American practice, but there
- 1:07:30Speaker 2: was not a lot. There wasn't really a pocket and
- 1:07:33Speaker 2: there was not a lot of running room on the
- 1:07:35Speaker 2: interior for the American offense against the American defense. So
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: I'm interested to see because I think the national offense
- 1:07:42Speaker 2: has better offensive linemen than the American the group does.
- 1:07:45Speaker 2: Uh So in the game on Saturday, I'm interested to
- 1:07:47Speaker 2: see it that carries over. If connorly plays, a Versary
- 1:07:51Speaker 2: plays a Belton plays on the National sides able, you know,
- 1:07:56Speaker 2: do they still control the line of scrimmage like they
- 1:07:59Speaker 2: did in practice because the American group just dominated the
- 1:08:01Speaker 2: defensive line.
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: How about the stand up guys? I know as Iraku
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: is so many people around here, like Princelyalimian, maybe I'm
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: gonna work on that. I'll have that down by the combine.
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: He's been unreal to watch because he's so big and
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: so physically dominating. All the old miss guys have been
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: pretty good on the edge, I'd say as well anybody
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: from that group.
- 1:08:28Speaker 2: So Mike Grad's been was the best player on the
- 1:08:30Speaker 2: field today I thought for either either team. Really, he
- 1:08:34Speaker 2: was great. From Marshall fringe first round guy. Probably if
- 1:08:39Speaker 2: he has this is sort of it, you know, if
- 1:08:42Speaker 2: this is his last sort of pitch to NFL teams
- 1:08:46Speaker 2: until the combine, I think he's probably a first round pick.
- 1:08:50Speaker 2: I think he's kind of locked that up to this week.
- 1:08:52Speaker 2: Just been fantastic. I personally, I like what I've seen
- 1:08:56Speaker 2: from from Azeruku from Boston College, Like I think there's
- 1:09:00Speaker 2: something there. I know, you know, we kind of get
- 1:09:03Speaker 2: Oh he went to BC, you know that's interesting. But
- 1:09:07Speaker 2: the guy that's really stood out to me is Josia
- 1:09:09Speaker 2: Stewart from Michigan. I just the way that he plays,
- 1:09:13Speaker 2: the first step quickness, the way he gets off the line.
- 1:09:16Speaker 2: And we're always with these Michigan guys. They're always really
- 1:09:19Speaker 2: good hand fighters, and they're really well versed in their
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: pass rush repertoire already because they basically run a pro
- 1:09:25Speaker 2: system down there in Michigan. So you know, all these
- 1:09:28Speaker 2: guys that from Michigan tend to come into the league
- 1:09:31Speaker 2: really polished with their technique as pass rushers and have
- 1:09:34Speaker 2: multiple moves. And I think that Josiah Stewart is another
- 1:09:37Speaker 2: one of those guys that has that. And I just
- 1:09:40Speaker 2: looked it up quickly yesterday. It's not a perfect size
- 1:09:44Speaker 2: measurables kind of comparison, but the knock on him is length.
- 1:09:47Speaker 2: Like he's not overly tall or overly long, but he
- 1:09:51Speaker 2: does have some of the same measurements as like Harold
- 1:09:55Speaker 2: Blandry if you want to come up with like a
- 1:09:57Speaker 2: Vrabel comp. Right, So that's the guy that I think
- 1:10:01Speaker 2: you know could be on their rail on this type
- 1:10:04Speaker 2: of system.
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: Is the Joshua comp lazy because he played that same
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: role in Michigan's defense.
- 1:10:11Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't think it's necessarily lazy. I think there's
- 1:10:13Speaker 2: some of the same concerns in terms of his run
- 1:10:16Speaker 2: defense and and this week is definitely a really heavy
- 1:10:19Speaker 2: on rushing the passer versus stopping the run in these practices,
- 1:10:23Speaker 2: So you don't see a ton of that. I think
- 1:10:25Speaker 2: you can see that because he doesn't have no length, right,
- 1:10:27Speaker 2: So he's not going to be able to set the
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: edge and do all that kind of stuff. That's what
- 1:10:32Speaker 2: you're they're still looking for, and he's not their guy.
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: Like if they're still looking for Anthony Jennings types, you know,
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: like that type of mold, he's not for them. But
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: if you're looking for somebody to rush the passer, I
- 1:10:44Speaker 2: think he is for you. Uh. He hasn't been consistent,
- 1:10:48Speaker 2: but uh, femi Ola deeo, I'm gonna say that, that's
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: how you say it from U c LA.
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: You know.
- 1:10:55Speaker 2: The one thing that talking to count and especially this
- 1:10:59Speaker 2: week for the piece. Uh he he mentioned effort in finish.
- 1:11:04Speaker 2: We're like the two big sort of cliche type things
- 1:11:09Speaker 2: that they look for, right not we're not talking skill
- 1:11:11Speaker 2: sets and all the details and right now just effort
- 1:11:14Speaker 2: and finish. Those two things were really big for them.
- 1:11:17Speaker 2: And that guy has been motor hot the entire week. Right.
- 1:11:21Speaker 2: You just see that type of ability. It's not always
- 1:11:24Speaker 2: been consistent, he's been he's been stymied a few times,
- 1:11:27Speaker 2: but I think that he's been really a high effort,
- 1:11:31Speaker 2: high motor, intense competitor type. And then the kids from
- 1:11:35Speaker 2: Texas has been good too. Currell Baron Currell. I think
- 1:11:39Speaker 2: he's similar. He had that Emery Jones showdown at the
- 1:11:42Speaker 2: end of practice today, which was cool. They went, Yeah,
- 1:11:48Speaker 2: they went three straight reps in a row because they
- 1:11:51Speaker 2: they went the first rep and it was a stalemate,
- 1:11:54Speaker 2: like Cerell beat him initially, and then Emery Jones actually
- 1:11:58Speaker 2: recovered really well, really well. Then it seemed like, you know,
- 1:12:02Speaker 2: they went the second rep that I think Emery Jones won.
- 1:12:06Speaker 2: I think Crell said, I want another one. They wanted
- 1:12:09Speaker 2: they wanted a time. Yeah, they they went again and
- 1:12:14Speaker 2: uh and I think Emery Jones beat him. But Sorell
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: was was good for the another one of those like
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: in the type of mold right, like he a little
- 1:12:23Speaker 2: bit more undersized, a little bit of a screamer off
- 1:12:26Speaker 2: the edge. But Shamier Stewart, that guy's a dude. He's
- 1:12:30Speaker 2: gonna be a first round pick. I would assume. H.
- 1:12:33Speaker 2: Kyle Canards has been okay in moments, he's flashing moments.
- 1:12:38Speaker 2: Just a great group, just a deep, deep group of
- 1:12:41Speaker 2: edge rushers, you know, throughout this draft, as everybody anticipated,
- 1:12:45Speaker 2: and I think it's lived up to the bill.
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: Do you see Canard as one of those patriots like
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: fits I did.
- 1:12:51Speaker 2: And it's an interesting spot, right, Like, if they don't
- 1:12:53Speaker 2: go edge in round one, it's not ab dual Carter
- 1:12:57Speaker 2: in the first round. Is Canard in play thirty eight?
- 1:13:01Speaker 2: I would say he probably is in play at thirty eight.
- 1:13:04Speaker 2: He's he's a twitched up guy, like he's not. He's
- 1:13:08Speaker 2: he's gonna again. It comes down to if they're going
- 1:13:11Speaker 2: away from this Belichick stuff of you know, too gap
- 1:13:14Speaker 2: and hold the point of attack and set the edge
- 1:13:16Speaker 2: and be disciplined and stay in your rush lanes and all.
- 1:13:20Speaker 2: If that's if they're going to allow guys to kind
- 1:13:22Speaker 2: of color outside the lines a little bit more to
- 1:13:24Speaker 2: try to make more plays that I think Canard fits.
- 1:13:27Speaker 2: I don't think he fits if he's gonna if they're
- 1:13:29Speaker 2: gonna run sort of the old style of defense.
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: Well, if they are going to go to that more
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: aggressive defense, they need to get smaller and more athletic.
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: Not I shouldn't say smaller, they need to get quicker
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: and more athletic a linebacker. So that's a you know,
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: I don't. I don't know that it. Linebacker is one
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: of the stronger positions the Senior Bowl overall. But I
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: will say if you're a team that's looking for that
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: kind of three down coverage east to west linebacker that
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: seems to be who most of these guys are, you
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: know coming into the week. I like Demetrius Knight, another
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: South Carolina guy. I think a guy that he's big
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: for a guy that can move. He moves at two
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: forty seven, so you kind of get the best of
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: both worlds. Nick Martin from Oklahoma State, a guy that
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: missed a lot of time last year due to injury.
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: I feel like we haven't seen a lot of the
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: off ball linebackers because they're not really doing the rush trails.
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: But we haven't seen them a ton of one on ones.
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: And again there's not a ton of run defense. It's
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: really just the team stuff. Who stood out to you
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: from from linebacker?
- 1:14:26Speaker 2: Yeah, Night's a good a good one. Shamar James from
- 1:14:30Speaker 2: Florida and Eugena Sante. Those two guys, by.
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: The way, Eugena Sante is such a like he should
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: be playing safety if he comes here or defense comes
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: in right. Eugena Santa.
- 1:14:39Speaker 2: Yeah, both those guys have stood out a little bit
- 1:14:43Speaker 2: just because of their versatility, like I've seen them.
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: Do a lot.
- 1:14:46Speaker 2: Yeah, in terms of coverage and you know, play off
- 1:14:50Speaker 2: the ball against the run. What's what's Jack Kaiser's deal
- 1:14:53Speaker 2: from Notre Dame. Here's another guy that I thought really
- 1:14:58Speaker 2: played the run very very well, like not the most athletic,
- 1:15:01Speaker 2: but very very good in terms of like reading his
- 1:15:04Speaker 2: keys and playing laterally to the line of scrimmage and
- 1:15:08Speaker 2: you know, kind of mirroring guys and squaring running backs
- 1:15:11Speaker 2: up and things like that. I thought it was interesting,
- 1:15:14Speaker 2: you know, him and and rj Oben who had some
- 1:15:16Speaker 2: moments to the Notre Dame edge rusher. Like, both those
- 1:15:20Speaker 2: guys still coming here, I thought was interesting. I know
- 1:15:24Speaker 2: Ryley Leonard's here too, but he's a quarterback and he's
- 1:15:27Speaker 2: wearing the red jersey and all that stuff. But both
- 1:15:29Speaker 2: those guys just played in the National Championship game like
- 1:15:31Speaker 2: a week ago, but nine days ago, and uh, and
- 1:15:34Speaker 2: they're here right. So that tells me something like that,
- 1:15:37Speaker 2: those are contact positions. They're coming here to hit people,
- 1:15:40Speaker 2: They're coming here to be physical and to do all
- 1:15:42Speaker 2: those types of things. A lot of the of those
- 1:15:45Speaker 2: guys dropped dropped out, you know, the Ohio State guys
- 1:15:48Speaker 2: and Notre Dame guys, Penn State guys, like the lot
- 1:15:52Speaker 2: those guys dropped out for And I'm not pulling it
- 1:15:54Speaker 2: against them, but I do kind of think it's cool
- 1:15:57Speaker 2: that that some of them did show up. You know,
- 1:15:59Speaker 2: open And and Kaiser were two guys that fit that
- 1:16:02Speaker 2: out of you just looking for and I don't I
- 1:16:04Speaker 2: don't know if they're necessarily these guys through and through,
- 1:16:06Speaker 2: but if you're looking for guys effort, finish, you know,
- 1:16:10Speaker 2: just football players, right like I D tells you something
- 1:16:14Speaker 2: that they still came even though they were just playing
- 1:16:17Speaker 2: a game nine days ago.
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: Anybody else up front?
- 1:16:21Speaker 2: Uh no, I think we named all the guys that
- 1:16:24Speaker 2: sit out.
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: Did you say Tim Smith earlier? I thought he had
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: a good day today.
- 1:16:29Speaker 2: Yeah, yep, had had a good day today. Made some
- 1:16:32Speaker 2: plays in the run game today. I thought we're pretty good.
- 1:16:35Speaker 2: Him and Cam Jackson kind of tandemed a couple of
- 1:16:39Speaker 2: of periods today. Uh Dion Walker like at that one
- 1:16:43Speaker 2: flurry of plays and I think he shut it down
- 1:16:45Speaker 2: a little bit and was like, yeah, all right, I
- 1:16:48Speaker 2: did my thing. I'm good. Uh So, yeah, those two
- 1:16:51Speaker 2: guys had a good day today.
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: At a corner, the guy I've been really interested in
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: all week, he had a really good day yesterday, he
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: was okay. Today took a little bit of a step back,
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: but I thought he was solid. Is balal Cone from
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: Western Michigan. Now, last year we saw Matt Corner come
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: to this event and have a great week, and it
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: was Quinny and Mitchell and obviously right door it up. Now,
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: I don't think ballalll Cohnes, Quinyan Mitchell is probably gonna
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: be a Day three pick, But for what the Patriots
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: need a corner, Like you're looking for somebody to play
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: opposite Christian Zalez, ideally somebody with some size because they
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: have a really small room. Cohen is his experience in
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: man in his own he can play physically, and I
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: think he's done a good job for the most part
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: sticking with these powerful receivers, which is kind of what
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: you want to see from him this week.
- 1:17:33Speaker 2: Yeah, it's funny because you know, last year was my
- 1:17:36Speaker 2: first Senior Bowl being here and Quinnon Mitchell just was
- 1:17:42Speaker 2: far and away the best player here last year. And
- 1:17:45Speaker 2: then he goes and gets drapped in the first round
- 1:17:48Speaker 2: and has like a rookie of defensive Rookie of the
- 1:17:51Speaker 2: Year type season for the Eels. Right, So you know,
- 1:17:54Speaker 2: that that's always stands out about those types of guys
- 1:17:56Speaker 2: that you just mentioning that I thought Cohan was good,
- 1:18:00Speaker 2: and I thought Quincy Riley from Louisville was really good today.
- 1:18:03Speaker 2: I think those two guys if you're looking exactly for
- 1:18:06Speaker 2: what you described, and then I also have really been
- 1:18:08Speaker 2: impressed by Mac McWilliams from UCF, Like I think those
- 1:18:11Speaker 2: three guys have covered really well. If you're they're still
- 1:18:14Speaker 2: gonna be man to man, you know, press man, sticky
- 1:18:17Speaker 2: guys on the outside. I think all three of those
- 1:18:20Speaker 2: guys have really competed. McWilliams had an awesome rep yesterday
- 1:18:24Speaker 2: in one on ones and basically ran the route for
- 1:18:26Speaker 2: the receiver and picked it up. Had another good rep today.
- 1:18:29Speaker 2: He's an picy guy. He's you can he lets you
- 1:18:32Speaker 2: know about it right like he beats you and then
- 1:18:33Speaker 2: he tells you about it afterwards. I always like those
- 1:18:36Speaker 2: types of guys at corner, especially opposite not you know,
- 1:18:39Speaker 2: obviously Christian Zalez, second team All Pro, fantastic player, but
- 1:18:43Speaker 2: opposite a guy like Gonzalez, it would be the worst
- 1:18:45Speaker 2: thing in the world to have a little bark on
- 1:18:47Speaker 2: the other side, right, have somebody that's in people's ears.
- 1:18:51Speaker 2: But I thought all three of those guys and Tom
- 1:18:54Speaker 2: Is from Florida State didn't do as well today, but
- 1:18:58Speaker 2: I thought he was okay yesterday.
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: So that's gonna have about the guys. So those are
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: more depth guys that we just named. The top corners
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: are Maxwell Harrison from Kentucky, Asray Thomas from Florida State,
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: Terry and Porter. You know I love like the super
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: long corners, right Darian Porter from Iowa State. This is
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: we're just gonna do juju. Brent's all over again. Who
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: I really liked that year. Any of those guys, like
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: the top of the draft guys stand out is you know,
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: if the Patriots really want to get aggressive and build
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: that cornerback tand of not obviously it for it's Will
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: Johnson and guys that aren't here, but you know, at
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: thirty eight, a guy like Maxwell Harrison or Azrie Thomas.
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: I know Trey Amos got hurt today, but he would
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: also kind of be in that group if any of
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: those guys think maybe justify the Patriots going up and
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: really getting aggressive at corner.
- 1:19:47Speaker 2: I thought Azray Thomas had a really good first day.
- 1:19:49Speaker 2: I wrote about him yesterday and my retap of the day,
- 1:19:52Speaker 2: I thought he was really good yesterday. Wasn't as great today,
- 1:19:55Speaker 2: but you can definitely see cover skills there and the
- 1:19:58Speaker 2: ability to play man to man and Maxwell Harriston had
- 1:20:02Speaker 2: like a couple of flashes, right. I don't know if
- 1:20:04Speaker 2: it was necessarily super consistent, but he had a couple
- 1:20:07Speaker 2: coverage reps where you're just like, all right, well that
- 1:20:10Speaker 2: guy was going nowhere, right, you know, I just strapped him.
- 1:20:12Speaker 2: So they both have some coverage ability. There's no doubt
- 1:20:16Speaker 2: about data. But I would say, I'm telling you, I
- 1:20:19Speaker 2: like to make Williams right. I don't know. There's something
- 1:20:21Speaker 2: about the attitude that I liked it. I like guys
- 1:20:24Speaker 2: that come here and compete, you know. I think there's
- 1:20:26Speaker 2: there are a lot of guys that come here and
- 1:20:30Speaker 2: it's you know about the interviews, it's about the exposure,
- 1:20:33Speaker 2: it's about all that of those elements. And there's other
- 1:20:36Speaker 2: guys that come in here to prove a point, that
- 1:20:38Speaker 2: come in here to make some money. And I thought
- 1:20:41Speaker 2: Williams did that.
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: He's been good. He's he's been really he's along the
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: smaller side, right, is he boundary corner?
- 1:20:49Speaker 2: I think he's got the length if I remember correctly
- 1:20:51Speaker 2: the look this up yesterday. I think he's got the
- 1:20:53Speaker 2: length to play on the outside. But he's not He's
- 1:20:55Speaker 2: not super big, no, you know five yeah, you know,
- 1:21:00Speaker 2: on the smaller side certainly, so you know, we'll see.
- 1:21:04Speaker 2: I'm trying to think that.
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: I'm not anti him. I would just like it's not like, oh,
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: he's too small to take him off the board. They
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: need multiple corners, but I do want to see them
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: add size at that position.
- 1:21:15Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, maybe it's because of the the GW that
- 1:21:19Speaker 2: made me think of Jack Jones, But okay, he's got
- 1:21:22Speaker 2: he's got a little bit of Jack, like you know,
- 1:21:23Speaker 2: Jack Jones, a lighter guy like this is not a
- 1:21:26Speaker 2: super big corner. You're just looking it up. He's five
- 1:21:29Speaker 2: ten seventy at the combine Jack Jones was and and
- 1:21:34Speaker 2: Mac McWilliams is five.
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: You know, I'll take five, like the five eight guys
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: on the boundary having to cover like t Higgins and
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: Devanta Adams. It's more just like getting away from that.
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: But they do.
- 1:21:44Speaker 2: If you want the if you want the big guy,
- 1:21:46Speaker 2: then but Billy L. Cohen has been the best, you know,
- 1:21:48Speaker 2: he's been the best in my opinion.
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: I also think, you know, there might be some guys
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: in the safety room that can help them out. So
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: I'm as we transition to safeties, I really want to
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: see Andrew mccooble because you know, I've been on this
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: campaign that they need to get another true free safety
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: in here to replace Devin McCarty, allow Kyle Dugger, allow
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: Jabill Peppers to play in the box, do what they
- 1:22:08Speaker 1: do best, and it's the rotation and playing. Solving that
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: problem by playing guys out of position, I think has
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: been proven to not work, at least with the personnel
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: they've had. They can maybe try again with another strong safety,
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: but at this point, just go get a guy. And
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: there's not a lot of these guys in the draft
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: because the way colleges play. I think mccooba can be
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: a true free safety. Maybe he's not a guy you're
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: gonna put single high seventy eighty percent of the time
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: the way you did with Devin mccordy, but he can
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: do it enough that I think he'd give that to you.
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: Now he's not there, so I go down to like
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: the next level guy that can maybe do that, and
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: Billy Bowman from Oklahoma is an interesting player because he's
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: kind of a tweener, but he's not a tweener. They
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: have a lot of tweener box safety free safeties. He's
- 1:22:49Speaker 1: more of a tweener free safety slot corner, and they
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: need that depth behind Marcus Jones, especially if Jonathan Jones
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: doesn't come back. He's depending free agent, So get guy
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: like Billy Bowman on day three who can give you
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: some true back end reps and also give you depth
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: in the slot. He's another guy too, to your point,
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: that I think has shown up and competed. You've seen
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: the effort, You've seen the compete level with him. He
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: had a really nice pass break up the other day
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: on like a deep It was a deep flag where
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: he initially got beat and just showed unbelievable recovery. So
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: I really liked him. I don't know how many other
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: safeties have stood out to me, but I think Bowmen's
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: been really good and definitely guy that should be on
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: the Patriots radar.
- 1:23:32Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, he's been good, and I think you see
- 1:23:35Speaker 2: him a little bit in that post safety role too,
- 1:23:37Speaker 2: being able to help over the top in terms of leverage, right,
- 1:23:41Speaker 2: Like you, lot of these guys you know, are using
- 1:23:44Speaker 2: him as a as a leverage defender and to play
- 1:23:46Speaker 2: on the outside and take away the go routes and
- 1:23:50Speaker 2: the quarners and things like that because they know they
- 1:23:52Speaker 2: have post safety help and he's been there a couple
- 1:23:54Speaker 2: of times. Then I've seen obviously these passing games are
- 1:23:57Speaker 2: not attacking the deep part of the field the time
- 1:24:00Speaker 2: because there's no rhythm to it and the quarterback steak,
- 1:24:03Speaker 2: so that that's a big part of it. But I
- 1:24:05Speaker 2: thought Billy Bowman's been pretty good, and I think Dante
- 1:24:09Speaker 2: Trader from Maryland has been probably the best of like
- 1:24:12Speaker 2: the Patriot box safety types, right, you know, if you're
- 1:24:16Speaker 2: looking for in this this group at least, you know,
- 1:24:20Speaker 2: for that type of player not as big, you know,
- 1:24:23Speaker 2: he's not as built as like a Kyle Duggar or
- 1:24:26Speaker 2: Marte Mapu or someone like that. He's only you know,
- 1:24:29Speaker 2: five eleven, two hundred pounds, but he's really covered tight
- 1:24:33Speaker 2: ends very very well all week. And you know, with safety,
- 1:24:38Speaker 2: the Titans obviously had Kevin Byern for a very long time.
- 1:24:41Speaker 2: You know, he was sort of a Devin mccordy for
- 1:24:44Speaker 2: them playing post safety. But they also drafted, like I've
- 1:24:47Speaker 2: always loved him as a player. Monti Hooker like that
- 1:24:49Speaker 2: type of guy that is like what you're talking about
- 1:24:52Speaker 2: with bowman rights. He can play slot, he can play safety,
- 1:24:56Speaker 2: and I do wonder if that role evolves to more
- 1:24:59Speaker 2: of that type of player. I'm like an the Moni
- 1:25:02Speaker 2: Hooker who's kind of a someone that can do a
- 1:25:04Speaker 2: little bit of both and uh and play that way,
- 1:25:07Speaker 2: and I I like bowmen for that role.
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: Uh. So they haven't shown again. I'm I'm I'm back
- 1:25:13Speaker 1: here in Boston. So I'm i'm uh. You know, at
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: the mercy of the TV broadcast, they haven't shown really
- 1:25:21Speaker 1: any special teams. They did show a little bit of
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: punting today. Jeremy Crenshaw was good. The Patriots don't need
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: a punter. I don't know if either these kickers or
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: Patriots fits if they're gonna stick to kind of what
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: they've done in the past of wanting guys from, you know,
- 1:25:34Speaker 1: inclement weather environments. Ryan Fitzgerald's from Florida State. Kiten Davis
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: was at Texas A and m transfer to Ole, miss.
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: But anything you're not you're not gonna have anything on
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: the on the kickers for me, are you so?
- 1:25:47Speaker 2: Ro I shouldn't say the name because I'm not a
- 1:25:51Speaker 2: hundred I can't remember a hundred percent. Watch kicker shanked
- 1:25:54Speaker 2: one yesterday pretty badly. They're one of these two guys.
- 1:25:58Speaker 2: Helmet I think it was a gold helmet. I'm gonna
- 1:26:01Speaker 2: say so. Uh then, but Frenshaw's punted the crap out
- 1:26:06Speaker 2: of them all. You want to, Yeah, if you want
- 1:26:08Speaker 2: to get into punters and kickers, he is. He has
- 1:26:11Speaker 2: certainly looked the part.
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: I mean, you know, I'd love to. But at the
- 1:26:14Speaker 1: end of the day, they have a good punter. They
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: have Bryce Bearinger.
- 1:26:19Speaker 2: Is he a good punter?
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: I think so.
- 1:26:21Speaker 2: Yeah, it's fine.
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: He had like a little dip in the middle of
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: the season, but he was.
- 1:26:26Speaker 2: Uh. Kreshaw definitely had some some uz and ohs at times.
- 1:26:30Speaker 5: You know.
- 1:26:31Speaker 2: I had some of that going on, which I thought
- 1:26:33Speaker 2: was interesting.
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: So I tried to get the stop Watch out, but
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: the angle they were showing it from I couldn't do
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: it any any anybody else that we didn't get to.
- 1:26:42Speaker 2: No, I think that was pretty pretty thorough. I think
- 1:26:44Speaker 2: that that was pretty much the group. I think that
- 1:26:47Speaker 2: a lot of these guys, though, were as advertised, which
- 1:26:50Speaker 2: is what you wanted to see. Yeah, I don't think
- 1:26:52Speaker 2: that you want to come into a week like this
- 1:26:54Speaker 2: and have somebody come completely out of left field on you,
- 1:26:57Speaker 2: and then yet like you're gonna change your entire opinion
- 1:27:00Speaker 2: on a player or a class or a position group
- 1:27:03Speaker 2: just because of what they did here that you're trying
- 1:27:05Speaker 2: to look at more confirming priors. I think the only
- 1:27:08Speaker 2: the one guy that because I admit I came in
- 1:27:12Speaker 2: and I tried. I tried alas. I tried to to
- 1:27:15Speaker 2: not do Taekwan again, like I tried to throw out
- 1:27:17Speaker 2: that type of mark, that archetype. I tried to talk,
- 1:27:21Speaker 2: he's not that hard. Don't not this time. Evan, you're
- 1:27:25Speaker 2: not falling for this track.
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: You are.
- 1:27:28Speaker 2: But Tess Johnson, that was the only thing that happened.
- 1:27:30Speaker 6: All right, And I guess if he literally was like
- 1:27:35Speaker 6: you could not cover him, like if if you if
- 1:27:38Speaker 6: he was just okay, I promise you, I wouldn't be
- 1:27:41Speaker 6: doing this right Like if he was just okay.
- 1:27:43Speaker 2: But he wasn't just okay. He was he was great anyways.
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: And he's going to run like a four to three,
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: he was saying on the on the NFL Network broadcast
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: yesday he's going to beat the Savior worthy time.
- 1:27:56Speaker 2: I don't know about that.
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: Look, if he does, I just and I hate using
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: this because I was pushing back on it last year.
- 1:28:02Speaker 1: But the track record of those guys is not great. No,
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: it's not great because if you if you get what
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: I worry about, the guy like that is beyond the size,
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: you get so used to winning by pure speed. Everybody
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: in the NFL is fast and is his game. We
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: did this with Isaiah Bond, who I think people have
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: come back down to Earth on. But like, he's fast,
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: and he's fast, and because you can't run by guys
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: in the NFL the same way you can in college,
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: you have to. It's good to be fast, but you
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: have to have another tool of preferably multiple other tools
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: to win beyond your speed. So I get look for
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: the sake of the exercise, tes Johnson is fast and.
- 1:28:45Speaker 2: Fast, and john he can separate the toppler out. He's
- 1:28:51Speaker 2: a He's a better separator than I thought he would be.
- 1:28:53Speaker 2: And that's why if he was just running past people
- 1:28:57Speaker 2: in a straight line the whole week, I would have
- 1:28:59Speaker 2: been like our whatever, No, but there was some more
- 1:29:02Speaker 2: nuance to it in my opinion than I expected, because
- 1:29:06Speaker 2: I promise you when I was trying to.
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: I'll give you that. No, he has been he's a
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: little more shifty. I'll give you that. He's I think,
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: get like, if they are going to take that guy,
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: if we're you know, being honest, I'm I mite the
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: side still worries me. He's probably more technically impressive than
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: Isaiah Bond if we're talking about those kinds of guys.
- 1:29:25Speaker 2: So I think Guysayah Bonds bigger.
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: Right, That's where I kind of hesitation.
- 1:29:30Speaker 2: I'm just just looking at it up Like Worthy is
- 1:29:34Speaker 2: five to eleven, one sixty five. So the biggest thing
- 1:29:37Speaker 2: with with Tess Johnson is that he's five to nine right,
- 1:29:41Speaker 2: Like if he was that two inches matters for like
- 1:29:44Speaker 2: the catch radious thing is important, like that two inches matter.
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: Yeah, you know you're worthy.
- 1:29:48Speaker 2: He's not going to win a ton of to catch point,
- 1:29:50Speaker 2: but we saw it the A's the championship game that
- 1:29:52Speaker 2: he can. I know not everybody agrees that it was
- 1:29:55Speaker 2: a catch, but like he went up and made it.
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: He was able to make a play on the foot.
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: He also is like and he has really long arms.
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: He his arm his what is it wingspan that's got
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: to be the equivalent of somebody who's like six one
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: sixty two, whereas Tesz Johnson is I think built more proportionally.
- 1:30:14Speaker 2: Yeah, so you know Worthy is five eleven one sixty
- 1:30:18Speaker 2: five with thirty one inch arms thirty one and one
- 1:30:21Speaker 2: eight inch arms, and Tenz Johnson's five to nine fifty
- 1:30:24Speaker 2: six with twenty nine and seven a's almost thirty in charms.
- 1:30:27Speaker 2: They we're talking about, like, yeah in an interest. So really,
- 1:30:32Speaker 2: to me, the the body type com is Tank Dell,
- 1:30:36Speaker 2: and I get that Tank Dell. If you want to
- 1:30:39Speaker 2: make the argument for it, it's that Tank Dell's been
- 1:30:42Speaker 2: great when healthy, yeah in the NFL. If you want
- 1:30:45Speaker 2: to make the argument against it is that Tank Hell
- 1:30:47Speaker 2: can't stay healthy again.
- 1:30:48Speaker 1: That's that's why I go to Devin Tompkins, who was
- 1:30:51Speaker 1: and you know that would he was twenty two. I
- 1:30:54Speaker 1: was a big fan of Devin Tompkins coming out of
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: Utah State. He averaged like twenty five yards of catch
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: his last year in college because you so fast, and
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: he wasn't like detailed his release specifically, but in the
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: route he was good and he just pull away from everybody.
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: But he's five to nine, one hundred and sixty pounds.
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: He ends up up going undrafted, and he was in
- 1:31:12Speaker 1: Tampa for a couple years. Now he's in Carolina and
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: they use him as a kick returner and he's used
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: kind of sparingly as a gadget player. And if that's
- 1:31:18Speaker 1: what Tes Johnson is, if that's ultimately what he is, like,
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: I could be into that. I'm not taking that guy
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: in the top one hundred, which I think is what
- 1:31:28Speaker 1: they're gonna have to do to get Tes Johnson. I
- 1:31:30Speaker 1: guess I need to go figure out who Day three
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: Tes Johnson is. I don't know if thought my head,
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: we'll find out. I'm not totally out on test. I
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: shouldn't say we're doing Taekwon again with Tes Johnson. I
- 1:31:41Speaker 1: do think there are differences there. I just don't think
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: that player, how that player usually translates in the NFL
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: is worth where Tes Johnson's gonna go. I think, just
- 1:31:51Speaker 1: like what happened to Taikwan and what happens with other players,
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: I think teams are Gonnat caught up in the forty
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: and the fact that he was at Oregon Big School,
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: made a run all of that and probably end up
- 1:32:00Speaker 1: overdrafting him and then he ends up being You texted
- 1:32:03Speaker 1: me like two two at will as a comp which
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: two to out Well is not a bad player. I
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: don't think you need to take two too out Well
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: in the top one hundred, especially when you're already it's
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: too much.
- 1:32:12Speaker 2: That is truly too much like Pop Douglas, right, I
- 1:32:15Speaker 2: think those two guys are aren't too Two out Well
- 1:32:17Speaker 2: and Pop Douglas are really similar. The thing with with Johnson,
- 1:32:21Speaker 2: I know are doing a lot on Johnson, but if
- 1:32:24Speaker 2: he runs well like Tank Dell is basically the same size,
- 1:32:28Speaker 2: you know, five eight.
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: One Dell like have a bad forty whatever? Remember that?
- 1:32:32Speaker 2: So Tank Yeah, so Tank Dell ran a four four nine,
- 1:32:35Speaker 2: which is at that size was considered uh like that
- 1:32:38Speaker 2: was considered a flag. Now. I understand the forties not everything.
- 1:32:41Speaker 2: It certainly is nowadays it's becoming less and less important.
- 1:32:45Speaker 2: But when you look at Ted Johnson, to your point,
- 1:32:49Speaker 2: if he has the Senior Bowl week that he had,
- 1:32:52Speaker 2: he measures similarly to Worthy and similarly to to Tank Dell,
- 1:32:56Speaker 2: and then he also puts down like a four to three, yeah,
- 1:32:59Speaker 2: then you're probably right. Then we're probably talking about at
- 1:33:02Speaker 2: worse to a second round thing.
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: So I just don't think that that's where they should
- 1:33:06Speaker 1: be taking that guy. No, not with all the holes
- 1:33:09Speaker 1: that they have.
- 1:33:10Speaker 2: So can we talk about another potential wide receiver for
- 1:33:13Speaker 2: the Patriots?
- 1:33:14Speaker 1: Is it? We hang on? Is it a Senior Bowl guy?
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: Or no?
- 1:33:17Speaker 2: No?
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: All right, So let me just put a rap on
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: this real quick, because you reminded me of the point
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: I wanted to make. As you consider all this and
- 1:33:23Speaker 1: consider it if you've hunger, I appreciate everybody who hung
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: around for an hour forty minutes or an hour thirty five,
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: so that was late. Consider this a disclaimer and basically
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: everything we said and this applies to the combine, and
- 1:33:33Speaker 1: this really applies the next four months. And I think
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: it's important to remember like this, we're evaluating these guys
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: as football players. We're evaluating them as eleven on eleven
- 1:33:41Speaker 1: pads on full contact sixty minutes. Right. These events are
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: more about confirming priors in tie breakers. I don't think
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: you look at what a guy does in this event,
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: and there's different variants for different players, right. A guy
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: like Carold Fannin is going to have some more variants
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: because he's coming from a smaller school. A guy like
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: Nick Martin is gonna have some variants because he only
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: has one full season under his belt and it was
- 1:34:02Speaker 1: two years ago because he was hurt last year. Right,
- 1:34:04Speaker 1: So those guys can maybe move a little more. But
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: you're not gonna take a guy who's a projected, you know,
- 1:34:11Speaker 1: not even in the top two hundred and suddenly say, Okay,
- 1:34:14Speaker 1: he's a top fifty pick because he had a great
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: Senior Bowl. You're not gonna take a guy who's a
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: projected top forty pick and say I wouldn't take him
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: till day three because he had a couple of bad
- 1:34:21Speaker 1: reps at the Senior Bowl. At the end of the day,
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: you need to look at what the guys did during
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: the year to figure out what kind of prospects they
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: are with. This is more about like we talked about
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: off the top, all right, ariantae Ersie and Josh Connolly,
- 1:34:32Speaker 1: similar players who like sort that thing out, right, Xavier
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: Estrepo Tes Johnson expected to go in the same area
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: sort that thing out. We're not And I know we
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: just kind of talked about test Johnson moving up draft boards.
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: We're talking about maybe fifteen twenty spots, which is pretty extreme.
- 1:34:49Speaker 1: But that's the guy who's having the best Senior Bowl
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: week and we think could have the best If he
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: runs sub four three, people are gonna call it the
- 1:34:55Speaker 1: best combine. So and that's worth fifteen or twenty spots, Max,
- 1:34:59Speaker 1: we're talking about you know, it's more how do you
- 1:35:02Speaker 1: set the board? You're gonna take all these guys in
- 1:35:04Speaker 1: the same range, you have a rank Similarly, it's that
- 1:35:07Speaker 1: ranking within the range is what this week is for,
- 1:35:10Speaker 1: what the combine is for, what things are like that
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: as for So, I just I kind of want to
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: I meant to say that off the top. Maybe I didn't.
- 1:35:15Speaker 1: I forgot. It's a long show, but I just kind
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: of want to put that caveat on all of it.
- 1:35:21Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, it's really true. And I think that you know,
- 1:35:24Speaker 2: the tackle one was a big one that I think
- 1:35:27Speaker 2: a lot of teams and scouts were trying to divvy up.
- 1:35:30Speaker 2: Is you know, where are Connery ery? Like, where those guys.
- 1:35:35Speaker 1: I don't want to hear, Like I don't want to
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: hear Connorley got bull rushed. You can't draft him in
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: the top one hundred anymore. Yeah, that's it was one rep,
- 1:35:42Speaker 1: which to your point was probably not as convincing of
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: a win as it looks on film or says it
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: looks like in the immediate but like, I don't know,
- 1:35:52Speaker 1: it's it matters. Yeah, and yeah, I would be worried
- 1:35:56Speaker 1: about Josh Connolly or right tackle, and you're not drafting
- 1:35:58Speaker 1: right tackle.
- 1:35:59Speaker 2: So yeah, No, I definitely think that that that was
- 1:36:04Speaker 2: a big conversation was those fringe first round tackles like
- 1:36:08Speaker 2: you know, Ursery, Connory, where it was able gonna play
- 1:36:12Speaker 2: you know, all those types of things. How do those
- 1:36:14Speaker 2: guys look this week, and how do we then go
- 1:36:18Speaker 2: ahead and stab them, you know, and and and you
- 1:36:21Speaker 2: know who how do we feel about all of them
- 1:36:23Speaker 2: looking at them at the same time against similar competition.
- 1:36:26Speaker 2: It's especially nice that Connory and and Nursery or playing
- 1:36:29Speaker 2: the same.
- 1:36:29Speaker 1: Guys because they're right literally to back.
- 1:36:32Speaker 2: Yeah, which I don't think is a coincidence. I think
- 1:36:34Speaker 2: that was that, you know, Jim Nagy was asked to
- 1:36:37Speaker 2: probably do that by teams to put those guys together.
- 1:36:40Speaker 2: So it's a it's a good a good parometer to
- 1:36:44Speaker 2: try to separate those guys now moving forward, But along
- 1:36:48Speaker 2: with the tackles, you know, kind of that being sort
- 1:36:51Speaker 2: of the conversation. It was all it was really fun
- 1:36:55Speaker 2: this week, these last couple of days to talk about
- 1:36:58Speaker 2: Travis Hunter with with these people, and I gotta, I gotta,
- 1:37:02Speaker 2: I know you love this conversation.
- 1:37:06Speaker 1: Is this the receiver you want to talk about? The
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: receiver you want to talk ye?
- 1:37:10Speaker 2: So the majority of people, I would definitely say, feel
- 1:37:14Speaker 2: like he's a corner, But there definitely are people that
- 1:37:18Speaker 2: think he can that he is a better receiver and
- 1:37:21Speaker 2: at least could make more it could be more valuable
- 1:37:27Speaker 2: for your team at receiver if I put it to
- 1:37:29Speaker 2: you that way, right, Like, if you it's it's a
- 1:37:32Speaker 2: great conversation, like would you rather have an A plus
- 1:37:36Speaker 2: corner or like a A minus receiver? And how does
- 1:37:41Speaker 2: that needle move in terms of positional value and like
- 1:37:44Speaker 2: all that good stuff, right, uh? Is uh is a
- 1:37:48Speaker 2: fun conversation. I just I think it's worth having because
- 1:37:51Speaker 2: I think that there's there's one thing that's very true,
- 1:37:55Speaker 2: and that is there is no question about the talent,
- 1:37:58Speaker 2: right Like every buddy is enamored with Travis Hunter, and
- 1:38:03Speaker 2: everybody is enamor with Dabdel Carter, Like those two guys
- 1:38:06Speaker 2: are are at the very very top of his draft.
- 1:38:10Speaker 2: It's like those two guys, where are the quarterback's gonna go?
- 1:38:14Speaker 2: And then everybody else? And that's right now is how
- 1:38:17Speaker 2: this draft is looking.
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: Look, I'm still where I was with Travis Hunter. You
- 1:38:22Speaker 1: want to play him at corner, I think it'll work.
- 1:38:24Speaker 1: You want to play him at receiver. I think it
- 1:38:26Speaker 1: can work. But you gotta know, and that needs to
- 1:38:30Speaker 1: be discussed, Like is they can meet with it. I
- 1:38:32Speaker 1: guess they can't meet with him now. They can meet
- 1:38:34Speaker 1: with them at the combine, they can meet with them
- 1:38:36Speaker 1: at you know, when they have their meeting here or
- 1:38:38Speaker 1: every many meetings they can have with him out of
- 1:38:39Speaker 1: as many as possible if you think you're gonna take them,
- 1:38:42Speaker 1: and like you, it's not all right, we drafted Travis Hunter.
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: What are we gonna do? It's the coaching staff, the
- 1:38:49Speaker 1: front office, everybody needs to be on the same page
- 1:38:51Speaker 1: for what he is doing, and you need to make
- 1:38:54Speaker 1: sure that he is good being on that page. You
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: can't draft him, plan to play him why receiver and
- 1:39:01Speaker 1: then have him stewing because he wants to play corner
- 1:39:03Speaker 1: and I don't think it's realistic for him to play
- 1:39:05Speaker 1: both ways full time. I'm still sticking through that. Can
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: you maybe use him as like you know, all right,
- 1:39:10Speaker 1: he's gonna play receiver full time and then you know,
- 1:39:12Speaker 1: all right, two minute trail, we're gonna throw him as
- 1:39:14Speaker 1: in as an extra corner because we could use them.
- 1:39:16Speaker 1: They're like, yeah, you can, Like that is fine. He's not.
- 1:39:20Speaker 1: He can't play one hundred snaps the game in the NFL.
- 1:39:22Speaker 1: You just can't do it. So I'm not against him
- 1:39:25Speaker 1: drafting Travis Hunter. I just if you're the process to
- 1:39:31Speaker 1: prepare to draft him is different than the average player,
- 1:39:34Speaker 1: because he's not average. He's not normal rights, We're talking
- 1:39:37Speaker 1: about a different kind of animal. And and and he's
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: a tremendously talented football player. You need to know the
- 1:39:44Speaker 1: best way as a team to harness that talent. And
- 1:39:46Speaker 1: I don't think it can be something you decide on
- 1:39:48Speaker 1: the fly. I think it needs to be something you
- 1:39:49Speaker 1: need to go in with a plan, and maybe that
- 1:39:51Speaker 1: plan changes as you go and you get new information.
- 1:39:54Speaker 1: But I don't think that plan can be all right,
- 1:39:56Speaker 1: you know, we got him in here, we'll wing it.
- 1:39:58Speaker 1: We'll just we'll just see what feels right. No, I
- 1:40:00Speaker 1: think you got to know coming in this is what
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: he's gonna do, and you've got to make sure that
- 1:40:03Speaker 1: he's on board with that because if not, now you
- 1:40:07Speaker 1: you have a guy used top five pick on that's
- 1:40:10Speaker 1: instantly unhappy and that's really not good, especially for a
- 1:40:13Speaker 1: new coaching staff.
- 1:40:16Speaker 2: Okay, I agree with a lot of what he said.
- 1:40:18Speaker 2: I think that the main thing though, is that you
- 1:40:22Speaker 2: need to make sure that Travis hunder is in the
- 1:40:25Speaker 2: right headspace with what he's gonna do at the NFL level, right,
- 1:40:28Speaker 2: Like you know, I said, he needs to understand right,
- 1:40:31Speaker 2: Like to me, it just comes down to when you
- 1:40:33Speaker 2: get into the interviews and you get into the thirty visit,
- 1:40:36Speaker 2: in the private visits on campus and all that good
- 1:40:38Speaker 2: stuff that's gonna come yeah, you know, combined and on
- 1:40:42Speaker 2: you know, brodes and things like that. Like what's his mindset?
- 1:40:46Speaker 2: Like if he thinks that he's gonna come in and
- 1:40:47Speaker 2: be a unicorn and be like the sho heeo Tania
- 1:40:50Speaker 2: football and playing both ways and do all this stuff
- 1:40:52Speaker 2: right like he's he's he's probably naive, like he's kind
- 1:40:57Speaker 2: of dreaming.
- 1:40:57Speaker 1: So I guess here's my point because because I like,
- 1:41:00Speaker 1: I'm not saying you have to let him dictate it.
- 1:41:04Speaker 1: And I'm not saying you one hundred percent dictate it
- 1:41:06Speaker 1: to him. I don't think that would work. But you, like,
- 1:41:09Speaker 1: it doesn't have to be his favorite thing. But you
- 1:41:11Speaker 1: go and you meet with him, You lay it out,
- 1:41:12Speaker 1: this is our plan for you, right, and if he
- 1:41:15Speaker 1: says that's exactly what I want to do, awesome. If
- 1:41:17Speaker 1: he says, yep, I can see that working for me. Great.
- 1:41:19Speaker 1: If he goes, nope, I'll you know I'm not gonna
- 1:41:21Speaker 1: do that. Like, let's say he says I want to
- 1:41:24Speaker 1: play full time. Don't draft me if you don't planning me,
- 1:41:26Speaker 1: if you don't plan on playing me both ways full time,
- 1:41:29Speaker 1: you have to It becomes tough question, Right, do you
- 1:41:33Speaker 1: draft him and try to fit the square peg in
- 1:41:35Speaker 1: around hole and say Nope, we're just gonna play a
- 1:41:37Speaker 1: receiver and you're gonna have to deal with it, or
- 1:41:40Speaker 1: at that point till you move on, and like, if
- 1:41:42Speaker 1: his plan, if what he wants to do is something
- 1:41:44Speaker 1: you don't believe will be successful, do you still draft him?
- 1:41:48Speaker 1: Because at that point, I'm kind of looking at it
- 1:41:50Speaker 1: and saying, especially the recent history of this organization's had
- 1:41:55Speaker 1: in the draft, I kind of look at it and say,
- 1:41:56Speaker 1: and I'm not saying this will happen. I don't know
- 1:41:58Speaker 1: this will happen, but it's a scen area have to
- 1:41:59Speaker 1: be prepared for. I kind of look at it and say,
- 1:42:02Speaker 1: if we can't get to a point with him where
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: we can make it work, I'm using the I'm using
- 1:42:07Speaker 1: the pick elsewhere. I'm looking elsewhere because there's no point here.
- 1:42:11Speaker 1: You can't develop them.
- 1:42:14Speaker 2: Yeah. Here. Here's the reason why I mainly bring it
- 1:42:17Speaker 2: up because the way that I see the board shaking
- 1:42:20Speaker 2: out right now is the reality is is that like
- 1:42:24Speaker 2: the blue chip players in this draft, of those two guys,
- 1:42:27Speaker 2: it's Carter.
- 1:42:28Speaker 1: I think he's going to be on the board right
- 1:42:29Speaker 1: because I don't.
- 1:42:31Speaker 2: So, I don't know. But if he's on the board
- 1:42:35Speaker 2: at four, and we're assuming that Carter is not on
- 1:42:38Speaker 2: the board, you are not taking the best player available
- 1:42:41Speaker 2: if you don't take DRAMs Hunter. But that's just if
- 1:42:44Speaker 2: you take Mason Graham in that spot, and even Will
- 1:42:47Speaker 2: Campbell and that's spot which would obviously make a lot
- 1:42:50Speaker 2: more sense, you know, just from a positional needs type
- 1:42:53Speaker 2: of thing, you're not taking the best player available. And
- 1:42:56Speaker 2: I think a lot of people, myself included, are all
- 1:42:59Speaker 2: about let's just stack talent onto this rock team. They
- 1:43:02Speaker 2: have so many holes. They need talent, they need top
- 1:43:05Speaker 2: end talent. And I get it. They need to have
- 1:43:07Speaker 2: a plan. They need to have a plan that he
- 1:43:09Speaker 2: agreed that everybody's on the same page. This is how
- 1:43:11Speaker 2: we're going to use you. I just think that, you know,
- 1:43:15Speaker 2: just being here, I just think that there are people
- 1:43:17Speaker 2: that think that he can be a great wide receiver.
- 1:43:20Speaker 2: That makes me think, okay, like in the league, there
- 1:43:24Speaker 2: are people that think that he can be a great
- 1:43:26Speaker 2: wide receiver. That was my take from him watching his
- 1:43:29Speaker 2: tape originally. So I'm just not crazy, right, Like I'm
- 1:43:33Speaker 2: not completely out of left field with that day. That's all.
- 1:43:35Speaker 1: And if he wants to play receiver, great, If he
- 1:43:38Speaker 1: says I don't want to play receiver, it doesn't you know.
- 1:43:40Speaker 1: Now those people have to ask themselves a tough question.
- 1:43:44Speaker 2: So just to play it out, Yeah, yeah, just to
- 1:43:47Speaker 2: play it out because we have a few more minutes
- 1:43:49Speaker 2: and we can.
- 1:43:49Speaker 1: Do there's a call in the line I want to
- 1:43:50Speaker 1: take to it. We'll do this, okay, Tennessee, yep.
- 1:43:55Speaker 2: I think Tennessee is going to take out dual Card.
- 1:43:57Speaker 1: I think so.
- 1:43:59Speaker 2: I think Tennessee is gonna take out Duel Carter.
- 1:44:01Speaker 1: They're gonna give Will one more shot for some reason, or.
- 1:44:05Speaker 2: They're gonna sign a bridge quarterback, they'll end up with
- 1:44:08Speaker 2: Sam Darnold or you know, something like that.
- 1:44:11Speaker 1: We'll get to Sam Donald, Sam Darnold factors and elsewhere.
- 1:44:13Speaker 1: Thisess equations.
- 1:44:14Speaker 2: But Uh, they have an offensive minded coach uh in
- 1:44:17Speaker 2: Brian Callahan. Uh. They just changed GMS again, you know,
- 1:44:21Speaker 2: like they they're gonna understand that this is a little
- 1:44:24Speaker 2: bit more of a of a slow burn.
- 1:44:26Speaker 1: Uh.
- 1:44:26Speaker 2: They have every Boy Bergonzi is there at GM and UH,
- 1:44:30Speaker 2: and they hired Dave Ziegler, old Patriot UH executive as
- 1:44:35Speaker 2: their assistant general manager. I think those guys are in
- 1:44:38Speaker 2: it for the long call. Like I think they're gonna
- 1:44:39Speaker 2: play the slow play. They are with Tennessee and just
- 1:44:42Speaker 2: take who they think is the best player in the draft.
- 1:44:44Speaker 2: And at Duel Carter with Cleveland, Uh, in the Giants,
- 1:44:49Speaker 2: I don't think Sudor Sanders is going to Cleveland, Like,
- 1:44:52Speaker 2: I just don't think he's gonna go on to play there.
- 1:44:54Speaker 2: I don't think he wants anything to do with the Browns.
- 1:44:56Speaker 2: I think the Giants, though, that makes a lot of sense.
- 1:44:59Speaker 2: We saw them kind of, you know, rubbing elbows at
- 1:45:02Speaker 2: the shrine.
- 1:45:02Speaker 1: But you said you said Sanders would drafts Hunter go
- 1:45:05Speaker 1: to Cleveland.
- 1:45:07Speaker 2: I don't know. I don't know. I just I don't
- 1:45:10Speaker 2: think Door Sanders wants to go to Cleveland. That's just
- 1:45:12Speaker 2: my opinion. I'm just just my take on it. I
- 1:45:14Speaker 2: just don't think he wants to go to Cleveland. Are
- 1:45:17Speaker 2: they gonna draft Cam Woard like with the Browns, Because
- 1:45:21Speaker 2: the Browns could also be in a position where they
- 1:45:23Speaker 2: just say, there's no quarterback in this draft that we loved,
- 1:45:29Speaker 2: we're not gonna reach, so we're just gonna go Carter
- 1:45:31Speaker 2: Hunter one two, and then the whole thing is moved.
- 1:45:35Speaker 2: So the Browns conversation is really where it is to me,
- 1:45:38Speaker 2: because I think the Giants are gonna take the Door.
- 1:45:41Speaker 2: I think that's happening.
- 1:45:42Speaker 1: I think the Giants are gonna take a veteran quarterback.
- 1:45:45Speaker 1: I think they're more that same Donald team. Because it's
- 1:45:49Speaker 1: so didn't they just do that with Daniel Jones. No,
- 1:45:51Speaker 1: because they kept Daniel Jones and Daniel Jones was inherited
- 1:45:55Speaker 1: by Brian Daball.
- 1:45:56Speaker 2: And this is but like in terms of talent level,
- 1:45:59Speaker 2: Like I know dartl had a much better year than
- 1:46:01Speaker 2: than Daniel Juns ever had in the league, but like
- 1:46:03Speaker 2: you're just talking about pure talent like and evaluated the
- 1:46:06Speaker 2: two players, like I just.
- 1:46:08Speaker 1: But it's it's kind of thing I guess. But it's
- 1:46:11Speaker 1: also proven versus unproven, and I think that it for
- 1:46:15Speaker 1: for both Brian Table and for Joe Shane. It doesn't
- 1:46:19Speaker 1: it feel like they need to make the playoffs to
- 1:46:20Speaker 1: save their jobs and you're you're trying to capture lightning
- 1:46:24Speaker 1: in a bottle. You're trying to get what the Commanders
- 1:46:26Speaker 1: got with Jayden Daniels. For every Jade and Daniels, there's
- 1:46:29Speaker 1: how many, like even as good as Drake may was. Right,
- 1:46:32Speaker 1: look at where the Patriots ended up. So I think
- 1:46:35Speaker 1: the Giants are veteran quarterback team, and I think that
- 1:46:37Speaker 1: that team makes all the sense in the world for
- 1:46:39Speaker 1: Travis Hunter if they have a quarterback in place, because
- 1:46:42Speaker 1: it's it's New York, it's a big market, you can
- 1:46:44Speaker 1: sell them, you know him with Malik Neighbors is really attractive.
- 1:46:50Speaker 1: He's playing offense. If not, they need a corner. They're
- 1:46:53Speaker 1: in that division that has a ton of good receivers.
- 1:46:56Speaker 1: I think Travis Hunter makes a ton of sense for
- 1:46:58Speaker 1: the Giants. I ALWAYO almost think he makes enough sense
- 1:47:00Speaker 1: to the point where they would go out and get
- 1:47:03Speaker 1: a veteran quarterback in order to facilitate it. The other
- 1:47:05Speaker 1: thing that happens is we know the Raiders like Shudur Sanders,
- 1:47:08Speaker 1: and we've talked about the Raiders moving from six to four.
- 1:47:11Speaker 1: What about the Raiders going from six to two? And
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: maybe the Browns just say, right if they are that
- 1:47:17Speaker 1: team that says, you know, we want a quarterback next year,
- 1:47:20Speaker 1: and it maybe maybe Travis Hunter won't go there. If
- 1:47:23Speaker 1: you think the Sanders family has an issue with Cleveland,
- 1:47:26Speaker 1: and that's kind of been rumored that Dion may limit
- 1:47:28Speaker 1: where these guys can go. Maybe the Raiders move up
- 1:47:31Speaker 1: and say, fine, we'll take Shaudar, and the Browns look
- 1:47:35Speaker 1: at it and they get the ammunition to move up
- 1:47:36Speaker 1: and take the quarterback next year. So maybe the Giants
- 1:47:39Speaker 1: don't even get a chance at Shouldar Sanders.
- 1:47:43Speaker 2: Well. Either way, I think we're both in agreement that
- 1:47:45Speaker 2: there's a real chance that Shador goes before the Patriots picked.
- 1:47:48Speaker 2: Which is which is the best case scenario for the Patriots. Yes,
- 1:47:51Speaker 2: they need the quarterbacks to.
- 1:47:53Speaker 1: Go, but they need they either need both to go
- 1:47:58Speaker 1: or none to go. I actually think one going is
- 1:48:00Speaker 1: the worst case scenario because if both go, well, now
- 1:48:05Speaker 1: you get automatically Travis Hunter or Abdull Carter, right, you
- 1:48:09Speaker 1: get one of those two. If neither go, now, for
- 1:48:13Speaker 1: those quarterback teams that are a little further down, the
- 1:48:16Speaker 1: Raiders the Saints, now you're selling the object of choice.
- 1:48:20Speaker 1: And you'd say, well, if those guys like the quarterback
- 1:48:22Speaker 1: when they move up higher, well, now that's a little
- 1:48:24Speaker 1: more affordable. Now becomes more realistic, and now that fourth
- 1:48:27Speaker 1: overall pick has more value if one guy goes. Right now,
- 1:48:32Speaker 1: the Raiders at six, they know you're not taking a quarterback.
- 1:48:35Speaker 1: They know the Jaguars aren't taking a quarterback, and the Saints, no,
- 1:48:38Speaker 1: they can call your bluff and say, well, Jaguars aren't
- 1:48:41Speaker 1: gonna take quarterback. We'll trade with them, and it's gonna
- 1:48:43Speaker 1: be a cheating pick, right, They're gonna force you into that.
- 1:48:46Speaker 1: So to me, the worst case scenario for the Patriots
- 1:48:49Speaker 1: is one of the quarterbacks goes. I think you need
- 1:48:51Speaker 1: both to go in the top three, or neither to
- 1:48:53Speaker 1: go in the top three to maximize the value. I
- 1:48:55Speaker 1: think both going probably is the best outcome, but I
- 1:48:59Speaker 1: actually think it's better neither go than just one goes
- 1:49:01Speaker 1: because if it's quarterback Travis Hunter Abdull Carter, now that
- 1:49:05Speaker 1: pick has the least amount of value in the trade market,
- 1:49:07Speaker 1: and both blue chip guys are gone, and I wouldn't
- 1:49:11Speaker 1: roll out Carter and Hunter going in the top three.
- 1:49:14Speaker 1: I still think that's realistic.
- 1:49:18Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, No, I think you're one hundred percent right.
- 1:49:22Speaker 2: I just I think we've almost flip flopped on this
- 1:49:25Speaker 2: because I am saying that these quarterbacks stake these quarterback
- 1:49:28Speaker 2: steak and I'm not saying that necessarily. I think that
- 1:49:30Speaker 2: it's a lot that one or two of them go.
- 1:49:32Speaker 2: But I just I come back to four, right, and
- 1:49:35Speaker 2: I just look at it, and I say, whether it's
- 1:49:38Speaker 2: Carter or Hunter, whichever one is right. You as the
- 1:49:43Speaker 2: Patriots in the position that they're in in terms of
- 1:49:45Speaker 2: this roster right now, needing just all kinds of talent.
- 1:49:49Speaker 2: I just need top of the roster talent. I just
- 1:49:52Speaker 2: think it's really tough pill to swallow, Like to what
- 1:49:57Speaker 2: you're gonna let Abdul Carter get the five in this,
- 1:50:00Speaker 2: you know what I mean, Like, I just I don't
- 1:50:01Speaker 2: see how if you're Elliott Wolf and Conten and Mike
- 1:50:05Speaker 2: Rabel and you're on the clot and one of those
- 1:50:07Speaker 2: two guys is sitting there and you don't draft that player.
- 1:50:10Speaker 2: Even if you don't even if you have concerns about
- 1:50:14Speaker 2: Hunter in terms of yeah, and you know which side
- 1:50:16Speaker 2: of the ball he's playing on, I don't know. I
- 1:50:19Speaker 2: don't know how you just don't draft that guy. Now
- 1:50:21Speaker 2: we might not be in this situation.
- 1:50:23Speaker 1: So I get so, wait, hang on, because you said
- 1:50:25Speaker 1: we flip flopped on this, Just to backtrack, wasn't your
- 1:50:28Speaker 1: original case that Hunter was going to be on the
- 1:50:30Speaker 1: board for.
- 1:50:32Speaker 2: No, My original case was that I don't think that
- 1:50:35Speaker 2: the I think the league is going to be smart
- 1:50:37Speaker 2: enough about these quarterbacks.
- 1:50:38Speaker 1: That's my that's if that happens, the Patriots aren't going
- 1:50:41Speaker 1: to have Carter or Hunter because who if not if
- 1:50:45Speaker 1: neither quarterbacks go in the top three?
- 1:50:46Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah right.
- 1:50:47Speaker 1: You also maybe McMillan mixes it, maybe if like the
- 1:50:51Speaker 1: Browns are fascinated, But right exactly so, I think the.
- 1:50:56Speaker 2: Only other guy is that good factor into any of
- 1:50:58Speaker 2: this conversations, right, now and yeah, January twenty nine, there's
- 1:51:01Speaker 2: a long fricking way to go. But the only guys
- 1:51:03Speaker 2: that can kind of, I truly factor in right now
- 1:51:06Speaker 2: to me are Campbell if he measures out of the tackle,
- 1:51:09Speaker 2: and Mason Graham. Like, I think those two guys are
- 1:51:12Speaker 2: the next closest thing to what we're talking about.
- 1:51:16Speaker 1: If but if check out Jeremiah.
- 1:51:19Speaker 2: You know, like in his top fifty that he dis released.
- 1:51:21Speaker 1: He thinks Campbell's tackle right.
- 1:51:23Speaker 2: But I'm just saying, like, looking at the rankings, yeah,
- 1:51:26Speaker 2: like you know, it's it's crystal clear that you know,
- 1:51:29Speaker 2: right now the consensus is Hunter and Carter are the
- 1:51:33Speaker 2: two best players in the draft. Sure, and then there's
- 1:51:35Speaker 2: a drop off.
- 1:51:36Speaker 1: If if Campbell's arms check out, would you call him
- 1:51:39Speaker 1: a blue chip player?
- 1:51:42Speaker 2: Yeah, I probably would. I think he's I think everybody
- 1:51:46Speaker 2: feels confident about him making his sticking in the league.
- 1:51:49Speaker 1: That's what we're talking about here, we're talking about we're
- 1:51:52Speaker 1: talking about different been a blue chip player and a
- 1:51:53Speaker 1: really good player. So, right, if Campbell's a blue chip
- 1:51:57Speaker 1: at you take a blue chip player at four if
- 1:51:58Speaker 1: he's there, if his arms check out, right, So, and
- 1:52:02Speaker 1: I guess here's my one other point to something you said,
- 1:52:04Speaker 1: and then I do want to get to your call, Ed,
- 1:52:05Speaker 1: and I know we're u against We're gonna do just kind
- 1:52:06Speaker 1: of quick you mentioned with where their roster is, they
- 1:52:10Speaker 1: can't pass on a blue chip player. I would almost
- 1:52:12Speaker 1: take the opposite case, especially if it's if it's Hunter
- 1:52:17Speaker 1: and you're not on the same page with him about
- 1:52:19Speaker 1: what his role is gonna be. They don't need one
- 1:52:21Speaker 1: good player, they need multiple good players. And if you
- 1:52:25Speaker 1: can move down and get a future first or get
- 1:52:28Speaker 1: an extra top fifty pick, or get like a second
- 1:52:30Speaker 1: round pick something like that, you get what I'm saying.
- 1:52:31Speaker 1: And it's a combination of those. Now you've turned the
- 1:52:34Speaker 1: ability to get one great player. Maybe you're going from
- 1:52:37Speaker 1: blue chip to whatever the step below blue chip is
- 1:52:39Speaker 1: and it's a green chip, right, Maybe you're going from
- 1:52:41Speaker 1: blue chip to green chip, but now you're getting like
- 1:52:44Speaker 1: three or four green chip players who are still cornerstone,
- 1:52:47Speaker 1: foundational players. I actually see more value in that because
- 1:52:51Speaker 1: they need more than one guy. It's not you're plugging
- 1:52:53Speaker 1: one guy in and fixing it. So I think the
- 1:52:56Speaker 1: potential to trade down is still very attractive. Real quick,
- 1:52:59Speaker 1: Ed and Western as has been hanging on. I want
- 1:53:02Speaker 1: to make sure I get you in here, Ed. What's
- 1:53:03Speaker 1: going on? Hey?
- 1:53:05Speaker 5: Can you hear me?
- 1:53:06Speaker 1: Yep?
- 1:53:07Speaker 5: All right, great, Thanks for taking the call. First, I
- 1:53:10Speaker 5: just want to remind you, Evan, when you first watched
- 1:53:13Speaker 5: Will Campbell's tape, you said he was a blue chip.
- 1:53:15Speaker 5: So if the arms measure out, he said he was
- 1:53:17Speaker 5: a blue tip from the start. The question I have
- 1:53:20Speaker 5: is about Travis Hunter. I actually am all set on him.
- 1:53:23Speaker 5: I know he's the best player in the draft, but
- 1:53:25Speaker 5: I'm curious where you would rank him positionally as a
- 1:53:28Speaker 5: wide receiver in last year's draft, so Harrison neighbors a
- 1:53:33Speaker 5: doom day does he slot in there? You put him
- 1:53:35Speaker 5: above one of those guys? And then for corners in
- 1:53:37Speaker 5: the draft that we got Gonzo, how does he slot
- 1:53:39Speaker 5: in with witherspooning Gonzo. I'll take it off there. I
- 1:53:41Speaker 5: appreciate it.
- 1:53:43Speaker 2: Yeah, Okay, So I guess I said Will Campbell's blue chips.
- 1:53:46Speaker 2: I'm gonna be consistent.
- 1:53:47Speaker 1: I think you did. You did say it with the
- 1:53:51Speaker 1: caveat of the arm line, which is that's fine.
- 1:53:55Speaker 2: There's no there's no debating Will Campbell in terms to
- 1:54:00Speaker 2: him being sticking in the NFL for the next decade
- 1:54:02Speaker 2: on an offensive line. It's just a conversation that he's
- 1:54:05Speaker 2: going to be inside a round.
- 1:54:06Speaker 1: Well, I guess you know. Well, let me to go
- 1:54:11Speaker 1: back to your takes during the twenty twenty two draft,
- 1:54:13Speaker 1: which we don't need to rehash fully, but in your mind,
- 1:54:17Speaker 1: can a guard well, can a guard be a blue
- 1:54:20Speaker 1: chip player?
- 1:54:25Speaker 2: Yes, but it's much harder, Like you have to be
- 1:54:29Speaker 2: Quentin Nelson. Do you have to be Zach Martin? Do
- 1:54:32Speaker 2: you have to truly move the needle, move the equation
- 1:54:36Speaker 2: like you.
- 1:54:36Speaker 1: Have to do you think he's that kind of guard?
- 1:54:38Speaker 1: If he is a guard? I don't know you said
- 1:54:42Speaker 1: you said he was a blue chip player.
- 1:54:44Speaker 2: Okay, but we're talking when we're talking about Zach Martin,
- 1:54:47Speaker 2: we're talking.
- 1:54:47Speaker 1: You think do you think he has the potential to
- 1:54:50Speaker 1: be that kind of player? I'm not saying you have
- 1:54:51Speaker 1: to say this is what he will be. Do you
- 1:54:53Speaker 1: think he is the tool that that kind of player? Yes?
- 1:54:56Speaker 2: Yeah, and and the and I also just what I
- 1:54:59Speaker 2: all so think needs to be mentioned with Will Campbell
- 1:55:02Speaker 2: as the intangibles, you know, like I think he's got
- 1:55:04Speaker 2: he's got leadership, he's got effort, he's got finished, he's
- 1:55:09Speaker 2: got traits, right, like, if that's what they're looking for,
- 1:55:12Speaker 2: which is certainly what it sounds like based off of
- 1:55:15Speaker 2: what you know they told me this week and what
- 1:55:16Speaker 2: they've been saying like that, he checks all those boxes
- 1:55:19Speaker 2: for them, and and that's what makes him intriguing at
- 1:55:22Speaker 2: the top. What was the other thing that real?
- 1:55:25Speaker 5: All? Right?
- 1:55:25Speaker 1: So he asked about I think in this class you
- 1:55:28Speaker 1: had Travis Hunter second to Tech as a receiver.
- 1:55:32Speaker 2: Nope, I think Travis. I think Travis Center is the
- 1:55:35Speaker 2: best receiver and the best corner in.
- 1:55:37Speaker 1: The Okay, last year's class. He asked last year's class
- 1:55:40Speaker 1: for a receiver. So it's it's Harrison, it's neighbors, it's
- 1:55:44Speaker 1: a Dooneesday and then Brian Thomas, I don't think you're
- 1:55:47Speaker 1: gonna have him below anybody beyond that. You're not gonna
- 1:55:49Speaker 1: have him below like Keon Coleman. So where where do
- 1:55:52Speaker 1: you rank him there as a receiver?
- 1:55:55Speaker 2: Well, it's funny because we were all too low on
- 1:55:59Speaker 2: VTEJ is fantastic. I would probably say that he's in
- 1:56:07Speaker 2: the conversation with me, uh for with the dunes for
- 1:56:11Speaker 2: wide receiver three, I don't know if he would be
- 1:56:15Speaker 2: wide receiver three. I mean, I would really have to
- 1:56:17Speaker 2: think about it. But I think he's certainly in the
- 1:56:21Speaker 2: conversation as I think to me, Myrison and neighbors are really.
- 1:56:25Speaker 1: Yeah, he's not. To me, he's not that level. But
- 1:56:28Speaker 1: I think he's at a Duneesa or maybe a little above.
- 1:56:31Speaker 1: He's probably closer to a Duneesa than the other two.
- 1:56:34Speaker 1: But I put him in there and then the question.
- 1:56:37Speaker 1: The other one was twenty twenty two draft corners, so
- 1:56:40Speaker 1: that was yeah, Christian Witherspoon. Yeah, I don't think Gonzales
- 1:56:46Speaker 1: is maybe as good of a cornerback prospect as I've seen.
- 1:56:50Speaker 1: I don't know that he's quite there. Maybe a touch below.
- 1:56:54Speaker 1: I'd put him head of Witherspoon. That's me.
- 1:56:57Speaker 2: Yeah, No, I think I think he's definitely in the
- 1:57:00Speaker 2: conversation to be the top corner in any draft.
- 1:57:02Speaker 1: Okay, Yeah, he's really good.
- 1:57:05Speaker 2: He's a really good player, you know, he just I
- 1:57:09Speaker 2: don't know, I because I think a lot of us,
- 1:57:11Speaker 2: I know we have to wrap, but like a lot
- 1:57:13Speaker 2: of us have sort of been all over the place
- 1:57:15Speaker 2: on Travis Hunter, myself included, because he's such a unicorn
- 1:57:18Speaker 2: and it's Yeah, it's a tough it's a tough call.
- 1:57:20Speaker 2: Like it's a tough one to kind of figure out
- 1:57:22Speaker 2: which position is he gonna play? You know, all that
- 1:57:24Speaker 2: kind of stuff is difficult, uh to figure out. And
- 1:57:28Speaker 2: but I think at the end of the day, everybody's
- 1:57:30Speaker 2: sort of coming to the realization that he that is
- 1:57:33Speaker 2: just a really really good football player. I'm not gonna
- 1:57:36Speaker 2: call him generational or anything like that, but like, that's
- 1:57:39Speaker 2: just a really really good football player.
- 1:57:41Speaker 1: If we're ever gonna call a player generational, tim because
- 1:57:43Speaker 1: generational means a player you only see once in generation,
- 1:57:45Speaker 1: once every twenty thirty forty years, you know, Travis Hunterson
- 1:57:49Speaker 1: one player you call generation. Sure, Yeah, that that might
- 1:57:53Speaker 1: be the best word I could think to describe him,
- 1:57:55Speaker 1: although it's going to be more common, you know, because
- 1:57:57Speaker 1: you're gonna have all these kids that saw him do
- 1:57:59Speaker 1: it and want to do it.
- 1:57:59Speaker 2: So all right, oh, really really quickly, really quickly, last thing,
- 1:58:03Speaker 2: I promise. Yeah, your boy Josh Simmons was walking around
- 1:58:09Speaker 2: this week intervening with teams.
- 1:58:11Speaker 1: That I think he's a good player. I just he
- 1:58:15Speaker 1: so I missed the report back in December. He's a
- 1:58:18Speaker 1: torn pteller tendon, right, that's what he had.
- 1:58:20Speaker 2: Yeah, that's that injury.
- 1:58:21Speaker 1: That's the same injury Cole Strange has had. Cole Strange's
- 1:58:24Speaker 1: out twelve months, and I know he had some setbacks.
- 1:58:27Speaker 1: He was out twelve months. So Josh Simmons had his
- 1:58:31Speaker 1: in late October. So even if we call it ten months,
- 1:58:36Speaker 1: he's just getting back to it in August. And I
- 1:58:39Speaker 1: just for a team that desperately needs an immediate answer
- 1:58:43Speaker 1: at tackle, he's not going to be that because of
- 1:58:47Speaker 1: the injury and for the team they are at this time,
- 1:58:50Speaker 1: he doesn't make sense. There's other teams he might make
- 1:58:52Speaker 1: a ton of sense for if a team has an
- 1:58:54Speaker 1: older tackle and a one year deal or you know
- 1:58:56Speaker 1: something like that. Yeah, he makes more sense. He doesn't
- 1:58:59Speaker 1: make if you're draft If you're drafting, he's not probably
- 1:59:02Speaker 1: not gonna play at a high level until twenty twenty six.
- 1:59:06Speaker 1: At that point, I'll just take a tackle next year
- 1:59:08Speaker 1: that's fully healthy, because either player, you're gonna get him
- 1:59:11Speaker 1: at the same time.
- 1:59:12Speaker 7: So yeah, for him, I'm glad he's talking to teams.
- 1:59:16Speaker 7: I think he's a good player. Don't get that twisted.
- 1:59:18Speaker 7: I don't have anything against the kid. I just think
- 1:59:20Speaker 7: for where the Patriots are at, a guy that's coming
- 1:59:22Speaker 7: off the injury he's coming off of is a misuse
- 1:59:25Speaker 7: of ass They need guys that can make an impact
- 1:59:28Speaker 7: like day one, and he's just unfortunately because he's heard,
- 1:59:31Speaker 7: he's not gonna do that.
- 1:59:32Speaker 2: So it's not I don't think you can really talent
- 1:59:36Speaker 2: on him as the season right exact time he gets healthy,
- 1:59:39Speaker 2: he gets ramped up. Like we saw this with the
- 1:59:42Speaker 2: guys from this year. You know, like it's obviously an
- 1:59:44Speaker 2: end season injury, but I Candon Wallace basically lost his
- 1:59:46Speaker 2: entire season, and you know it just it's impossible.
- 1:59:49Speaker 1: So to me at that point, if you're gonna use
- 1:59:51Speaker 1: a top fifty pick on a tackle, because thats where
- 1:59:53Speaker 1: he's gonna go. If you're gonna use a top fifty
- 1:59:55Speaker 1: pick on a tackle, use a top fifty pick next
- 1:59:57Speaker 1: year because you'll get the guy at the same time
- 1:59:59Speaker 1: either way. And now you've you know, you've added this
- 2:00:02Speaker 1: guy this year. So if he if he like falls
- 2:00:04Speaker 1: to Day three, I could totally be convinced of it
- 2:00:07Speaker 1: because I think with those picks you have a little
- 2:00:08Speaker 1: more runway. But that's just I feel bad, like I
- 2:00:13Speaker 1: I don't want to come across as ripping on the
- 2:00:15Speaker 1: kid or knocking him, like, do you.
- 2:00:17Speaker 2: Want another another Josh Simmons connection here? For so, not
- 2:00:21Speaker 2: only is he like a value pick.
- 2:00:24Speaker 1: Right, yea rabel Ohio State.
- 2:00:26Speaker 2: Not only did he go to Ohio State, he is
- 2:00:29Speaker 2: a Drew Rosenhouse client.
- 2:00:31Speaker 1: All right, Well that's that's a bygone era. So we'll
- 2:00:34Speaker 1: see if that's still places. But I guess maybe not.
- 2:00:39Speaker 1: I guess maybe not. Look, they're gonna take him, and
- 2:00:41Speaker 1: I'm gonna look like an idiot, But I'm just saying
- 2:00:44Speaker 1: I'd like guys that can play day one. I think
- 2:00:46Speaker 1: this team needs that.
- 2:00:48Speaker 2: Uh fair enough because we're already over.
- 2:00:51Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, we're even over the time I missed, So
- 2:00:54Speaker 1: I apologize, Matt. We'll be back next week. We'll be
- 2:00:57Speaker 1: back at new next week. I saw some people confuse
- 2:00:59Speaker 1: that it does move around a little bit this time
- 2:01:01Speaker 1: of year because you have events like the Senior Bowl
- 2:01:03Speaker 1: and the Combine and all that. But for the most part,
- 2:01:06Speaker 1: off season shows are going to be noon on Wednesdays.
- 2:01:09Speaker 1: We will be back at that time next week. Evan
- 2:01:11Speaker 1: will be back in the host chair. In the meantime,
- 2:01:13Speaker 1: he'll have Senior Bowl recaps on Patriots dot com. I
- 2:01:16Speaker 1: let my Senior Bowl recap once the week is over
- 2:01:18Speaker 1: on ninety eight five the Sports dot Com. Next week
- 2:01:21Speaker 1: we will probably have the bulk of the coaching staff.
- 2:01:24Speaker 1: They made some more hires. We didn't get into it
- 2:01:25Speaker 1: this week, so we'll get into that more next week.
- 2:01:27Speaker 1: Maybe we have some titles things like that, and I'm
- 2:01:30Speaker 1: sure more more draft and fre agency stuff as well.
- 2:01:32Speaker 1: So until next week. Frev Lasara Malex part thanks tuning
