- 0:01Hello and welcome to another episode of the Christian we
- 0:04podcast, but it's not just any episode.
- 0:06It's the fifth appearance of my good long-term friend, mr.
- 0:11Jack Hatcher. AKA Calamity Hatcher online.
- 0:16This is also episode 1, 2 3. So that's fun.
- 0:19But yeah, II. Painstakingly went back to find
- 0:23out which episodes you appeared on to appeared on episode 4
- 0:27episode 18 episode 19. Right around the time basically.
- 0:32Just before I started doing video podcasts and immediately.
- 0:37When I said I was doing that, you were like let's do it and
- 0:39we'd literally just had you on the podcast and I was like cool.
- 0:42Alright, fuck it. So that's this back-to-back
- 0:45episodes. Just got funny and then, that's
- 0:47good. Yeah.
- 0:48And the last time was episode 74 and you know I mean for those
- 0:53who don't know me and Jack went to school together.
- 0:56So we know each other a bit more than any of them.
- 1:00Avec, I think. Let me think there's a few
- 1:02people. I've met online that are part of
- 1:04my community that been on the podcast but you're the only
- 1:06person. Yeah.
- 1:08You're the only person that's been on the podcast that I know
- 1:11in real life. So that's cool.
- 1:14So the Alana yeah man and oh, my God, I mean obviously I follow,
- 1:20you know, what you do online sort of from afar that you know
- 1:24how it is. When you're really busy doing
- 1:25this stuff, like you don't really get the time to like look
- 1:28at each other stuff. Like I'm sure you don't get the
- 1:29timetable. My starts, it's like a glance
- 1:31like, oh cool. They're doing that.
- 1:33And this is a real Guru Rhythm gives you on the on the
- 1:36particular time you're scrolling.
- 1:38Those are the bitchy sea of people.
- 1:39But outside of that you don't really have much opportunity to
- 1:42go through and like, oh I'm going to check what this
- 1:43person's posted this week and you well yeah, no, not even that
- 1:46just like actually just sitting down and looking at someone's
- 1:49content, you know what I mean? Like, I fully accept especially
- 1:52other creators like you just, you don't get the time to do
- 1:55that stuff by exactly. There's, there's a lot that's
- 1:59happened. Since OKC episode 74.
- 2:01When was that sometime towards the end of last year?
- 2:05No. Was it last year earlier this
- 2:07year? It's been a while.
- 2:09These are all either or yeah. Okay.
- 2:12Yeah. Well, a lot of things have
- 2:14happened up. Yeah.
- 2:15Yeah. Whatever it was.
- 2:17Gosh, I don't even know what to jump straight into it.
- 2:20This point. That's okay, before we get into
- 2:24that the really, really exciting stuff.
- 2:25Let's talk about this shift in your content.
- 2:27So for those who don't know, Jack does I guess if you're
- 2:33going to sum it up video game content online with streaming
- 2:38heavily into, you know, obviously Sonic and we've
- 2:42detailed that Sonic the Hedgehog Your Love of that since
- 2:45childhood all the way up to now also Your Love of All Things,
- 2:49Marvel Spiderman stuff like that but basically to put that in a
- 2:52context for people understand, as far as the sort of content
- 2:55that Jack Bauer's on line. It's basically like live
- 2:58streaming with his community that he's built up.
- 3:01He does a lot of streaming On the Super Smash Bros leagues on
- 3:06YouTube. I think a couple of times you've
- 3:08actually been number one in the world for that.
- 3:10So that's amazing. Achievement was mad.
- 3:15But yeah, but there's been a recent shift and you sort of
- 3:17detailed why on social media, but I just wanted to explore
- 3:22that. I mean, I know the reasons.
- 3:24It seems kind of obvious why you want to do this.
- 3:26But in your own words, why have you sort of was prompted to
- 3:29shift in your content where you're not sort of?
- 3:32Walking away from that. But you're now you're creating
- 3:34other sorts of content. I want wider them.
- 3:36So, you know, for the longest time, I have covered Sonic, the
- 3:41Hedgehog, and I have covered every facet of the franchise
- 3:45leaks predominantly because those are the videos that get
- 3:49you views at the end of the day, and I no longer legally can talk
- 3:57about leaks. Oh, I do too.
- 4:02Contracts that I have signed, see this.
- 4:05I didn't know. I mean, I dunno, I dunno what
- 4:08you're talking about, but I didn't know it was connected to
- 4:10this. That's interesting.
- 4:11Not a non-disclosure agreements. Interesting course.
- 4:16Yeah. Because if you if you because
- 4:18you have knowledge that insider trading and they like, you know,
- 4:21yeah. Oh wow.
- 4:22So even if you know, I see a leak and I see it to be
- 4:26completely false, even if I know nothing about the particular
- 4:30thing and that does often Turn out to be the case to be
- 4:33completely honest with you, just by covering it, I could
- 4:38jeopardize everything. So even if it's, you know, I
- 4:42have no knowledge of it'll ever. So yeah, we've kind of had to
- 4:46move away from that now and I've found a real passion in doing
- 4:52video essays and doing voice acting recently.
- 4:55Yeah, so I've been doing a lot of primarily YouTube shorts
- 5:00based around. Dubbing Sonic scenes, Sonic
- 5:04cutscenes and adding my voice to the characters and that kind of
- 5:07thing and that's been a lot of fun and then I've been working
- 5:10on the video essay type things you know because I think it's
- 5:13the main thing I watch on YouTube.
- 5:14Hmm. Yes.
- 5:15I love a good 20 minute nerdy video essay.
- 5:19You know why this Spider-Man film is amazing or terrible or
- 5:24what the DCU needs to focus on to rival the Mt.
- 5:28I don't care what it is. I love getting into that, so I'm
- 5:31trying to move more into that. That form of content, those
- 5:34videos again, do particularly well at times some of them do
- 5:38atrociously, but then obviously really well.
- 5:40And, you know, the ones that do really well, you think.
- 5:42Okay, that's the motivation for the next one.
- 5:44Let's talk about something else that I'm very passionate about
- 5:48and want to ramble on about 20 minutes.
- 5:50So I totally get that dude, you should always move with the sort
- 5:53of content that you're into that you enjoy doing the most and
- 5:57He's one of the reasons why I diversify and do a lot of
- 6:00different types of content. Some of that is, in reaction to
- 6:03things that work. Other things, it's just stuff I
- 6:05want to do, you know, I get that.
- 6:07You know, it's not all about getting views, but what I will
- 6:10say with that because I've had this, this comment come up a few
- 6:13times in my live streams lately, when people like stop focusing
- 6:17on views and I know why you're telling me that and I appreciate
- 6:20it, but the reality is, if you're a content creator, it's
- 6:23impossible. At some level to not think about
- 6:27views because it's how you measure your performance over
- 6:31time. It's how you measure sentiment
- 6:34as far as what your audience is into, it can it can help you to
- 6:38make decisions. For example, instead of
- 6:41focusing, all your efforts, on one particular content type of
- 6:44content, you diversify or maybe you set up a separate platform.
- 6:48You know, I've done this in some instances where you can only
- 6:51find say the podcast and one platform and Another acting in
- 6:57another but like, you know, I mean, it separate.
- 6:59So as to not annoy the existing audience and that's something
- 7:02interesting about what you're doing.
- 7:03Like, how come you've chose to keep it all on one channel as
- 7:08opposed to not? Is it?
- 7:09Because it's about those things? So it's relevant or it's just
- 7:14quickly say about your earlier point.
- 7:16I want to shatter the Illusion for anyone that is watching
- 7:19online content, every single Creator on the Internet is doing
- 7:25it for views. He's there is no point saying to
- 7:27them. Oh don't worry about the views
- 7:30because nobody is picking out their stuff online but nobody to
- 7:34watch it as absolutely. You have no idea the amount of
- 7:38effort and time that goes into creating these pieces of content
- 7:41that we put up that we don't want that for nothing.
- 7:45Hmm. You know you want people to see
- 7:47that. So yeah.
- 7:49That on that point. I will just activated by the
- 7:52way. Yeah.
- 7:53The people that serve them, you know who they are.
- 7:54They're awesome people. They It more, in the sense, we
- 7:57don't Focus only on that because it make you sad and my point was
- 8:01I get where you're coming from, and I do agree.
- 8:03You should make content, first and foremost, because you enjoy
- 8:06doing it. If you stop enjoying doing it,
- 8:08don't do it but of course, but at the same time, you're 100%
- 8:12right. Like you.
- 8:13Yeah, you want people to look at it.
- 8:14That's why you do it. Exactly.
- 8:16Exactly. And on your point of the, of the
- 8:19channel, I mean, I've opened this up to my community quite a
- 8:24lot with YouTube. Bowls and things like that.
- 8:27And the first, real instance, for I saw there being a split
- 8:31potentially was with the Calamity, quickies.
- 8:34I don't know if you've actually watched any of the Calamity,
- 8:36quickies. It's basically a new segment.
- 8:39I kind of view it as the Calamity Hatcher, keemstar
- 8:42segment of the channel, but I focus a bit more on the nerdy
- 8:45news and that's in that side of things.
- 8:47But it is generally, I Do cover, YouTube drama and things of that
- 8:49nature purely. Because again, something I was
- 8:52watching a lot of and I do still watch drama alert whenever Comes
- 8:56out. I enjoy that kind of content and
- 8:58I have opinions on these things and I would talk about it.
- 9:00So you know, I put out there with that and I said to people,
- 9:03do you think the Calamity quickie should be its own
- 9:06channel? You know to because it's very
- 9:09diverse from the Sonic content, I do try and drop a bit of Sonic
- 9:11news in there if I can but generally it is quite diverse
- 9:14from it and overwhelmingly, the response was no, keep it
- 9:17together and then I've had that on other things in terms of like
- 9:22Marvel and comic book culture. I've asked, you know do you guys
- 9:25You want me to separate that have a different channel.
- 9:27So this is just for the Sonic people and the other guys can go
- 9:31and view ever. They want and again the response
- 9:33has unanimously. No, keep it on one channel.
- 9:36And that's the weird thing because you know, these videos
- 9:40don't do certain types of videos don't do as well on the channel.
- 9:44But I think it's also becoming My brand is just that blend like
- 9:52for instance as a YouTuber I watch called Channel pup than if
- 9:55he's if he's maybe watching this, love the guy awesome
- 9:57YouTuber and he is a Sonic Spider-Man YouTuber, you know
- 10:02they are different topics but that is his branding and you
- 10:06know, both sides of his videos to just as well in that regard.
- 10:10So I think yeah I think it's just become a bit of my brand
- 10:14now that like this is where you go for your son.
- 10:17Snooze but also find out what tanomo Joe did this week or, you
- 10:20know, that's that's just some Sonic voice acting dubs and oh
- 10:24there's a new Spider-Man video out, you know, just it's still
- 10:27fitting within that playground of like gaming a nerd culture, I
- 10:30feel so I think it's just becoming that brand I guess I
- 10:34but I don't know. Again, as the channel keeps
- 10:36growing, it's something I'm going to keep putting out
- 10:38feelers for keep asking the community because at the end of
- 10:41the day, there's no point making a decision, if your community
- 10:44isn't behind it. Because well that can't be, of
- 10:47course. But you know, like in the terms
- 10:50of creating content that people want to see and where they can
- 10:53view that content, I always feel it's better to listen to my
- 10:55community and see what they say about it.
- 10:57Really. How many times a week right now
- 11:01on? Average are you posted, would
- 11:03you say? I'm very inconsistent.
- 11:06I have fallen off the wagon in that regards.
- 11:10Yeah, there's some weeks I'll go with that.
- 11:11Pasting go two weeks without posting and then I might have a
- 11:15week where I do three videos and five streams and like it's just
- 11:20it's random. And like for instance, last week
- 11:23I didn't really have a lot of content out.
- 11:26I don't think I put any content out last week if I did, I
- 11:28apologize for that video. I didn't mean to scare you but
- 11:31then this week, you know Monday I hear the Sonic 2 movie trailer
- 11:35is dropping then Tuesday. I find out that the there's a
- 11:39new gamer Well then I've heard those videos, one of them got
- 11:441,000 views before I went to sleep.
- 11:46Oh, the had I was okay. And you know Thursday, we had
- 11:50the game awards where we got two big Sonic announcements so not
- 11:55only did I live stream that up till 3:00 a.m. in the morning
- 11:59saying that I've been given to cut the bits from the stream up.
- 12:03Yeah, those reactions. I've now done an Easter egg
- 12:05video, covering everything I found in the Sonic movie
- 12:08trailer. I'm going to have another one.
- 12:10One coming up today tomorrow for Sonic Frontiers, there are
- 12:14moments, you know things get busy.
- 12:15You have content to create as a Sonic tubers.
- 12:18It can be quite dry at times. There's not a lot to talk about.
- 12:20So you know this has been an instance where things have got
- 12:25really busy but you have dry weeks, you have slow weeks.
- 12:29I think this week in particular has really reminded me why I do
- 12:35what I do with the YouTube because you know, the stream is
- 12:39and everything I just Such a blast this week making content
- 12:42again. And I think it's it's kind of a
- 12:45thing of, you know, when you shift in and out of making it
- 12:47over the course of weeks, I sometimes you just mentally
- 12:49trait, sometimes you just can't do it.
- 12:52And then you have weeks like this where you put yourself out
- 12:55and you make a lot of content and you just love it so much.
- 12:57It's like an old shoe just fits and it makes you want to run
- 13:01with it. I know exactly what you mean
- 13:03like exactly what you mean because I got to a point where I
- 13:09stopped. I stopped worrying so much about
- 13:12the views and reaching a bunch of people.
- 13:15And I tried to think about, Okay, I've got these people hear
- 13:20these, let's say figures about 15 people in total, 15, maybe 20
- 13:25who always at least come to some of the streams.
- 13:30If not all of them who always listen to the podcast to always
- 13:34check out the shorts and stuff like idea Etc.
- 13:38And I started thinking more about, I should focus on making
- 13:42content for them and making them happy as well as myself rather
- 13:46than trying to just reach. New people that it's great to
- 13:49reach new people, but it's like, you know, every time you do a
- 13:52livestream, you're essentially advertising marketing, you know,
- 13:57I mean like you're interacting with the people that are always
- 13:59there but you're also it's one big adverts like hey you should
- 14:04join me, you know, you can't, you can't.
- 14:06You know what your own coming from on this?
- 14:07You cut. Ya can't be switched off, you
- 14:09can't, you got to be on the whole time.
- 14:12Same with the same of the podcast.
- 14:14I mean, I would never dream of being lazy here, but you know,
- 14:16same amount of research Search and effort goes into every
- 14:19single episode and it yeah, it can get monotonous but it's like
- 14:23you said, it's sometimes it gets it feels a bit like that and
- 14:26then the next week or I don't know maybe I just have a really
- 14:29good episode or whatever something we'll just reignite
- 14:32that fire and as you say it gets better and for me it's
- 14:36interesting because I'm making long form and short form
- 14:39content. So the podcast is a bit
- 14:41different. I don't ever expect it to get a
- 14:45lot of views. But once in a while, I might
- 14:49pick up some new people, but generally, it's discordance
- 14:52always listening and watching same with the live stream, but
- 14:55we have picked up some new people here and there, but with
- 14:58the shorts, it's totally totally different ball game.
- 15:01Oh, yeah. I've seen your Tick-Tock that's
- 15:03relations, sir. Thank you.
- 15:05But, you know, the funny thing about that is I thought it was
- 15:08popping up that I thought I was, you know, I felt it was like
- 15:13when you got your first 1K on YouTube later, this is it, that
- 15:17everything is going to change and then nothing changed Life
- 15:21Changes. That's all I mean, I think that
- 15:24was the biggest thing that that hit me.
- 15:26I actually distinctly remember it, because I came off stream
- 15:29after I hit 1K and my good friend.
- 15:33Nathan called me crude cartoons. Who you may know, who did the
- 15:37awesome stream intro, for my streams is incredible.
- 15:39He called me. He's like, bro.
- 15:41You It. That's it, that's it.
- 15:45It's just, I've always liked, it's just hit me.
- 15:49That, that was, that was nothing.
- 15:51That's, that's the first hurdle that what happens from here is
- 15:57constant work. That is the only way this keeps
- 16:00growing like it. You, you have this idea in your
- 16:03head that once you hit that particular Milestone, like the
- 16:05city made it. Yeah.
- 16:07No, you can't take your foot off the pedal at all.
- 16:10You're still going to be grinding.
- 16:11You're still going to put content out there.
- 16:13Nobody watches. It's like you're going to put
- 16:15out content that people do watch, you know?
- 16:16It's it's a battle. It's always a battle.
- 16:21This leads me on to my next thing.
- 16:23I was going to ask you and don't worry, we'll get to those
- 16:25exciting projects that. Yeah, exactly, like the Jack's
- 16:27working on. I just want to say that for a
- 16:29second because it's the flow of things.
- 16:31And, you know, me, I like to make it more conversational,
- 16:34what you're talking about, there it gets me because one of my key
- 16:38goals I achieved every other YouTuber goal For this year
- 16:42except for one, which was to get 1,000 on my main Channel.
- 16:47Okay, I've got just shy of like 800 or 800, something like that,
- 16:52which is great. Don't get me wrong, but it's not
- 16:55what I wanted. And obviously, I am very glad
- 16:57about it, but then here's the weird thing.
- 17:00As, you know, Tick-Tock kind of blew off and then my YouTube
- 17:04shorts page as well, which is random started.
- 17:06Getting a lot of views, okay? And the interesting thing about
- 17:09that, and I've mentioned this in the podcast before, For it.
- 17:12Initially when I set it up loads of views and then there was just
- 17:16this drought season where does nothing the ages?
- 17:18Like maybe six months and then suddenly boom views again and
- 17:22followers again. And and basically my point with
- 17:25this is that I no matter what kind of goals you set yourself,
- 17:28or how you think the use going to turn out, it's always very
- 17:31different from what, how you envision 100%?
- 17:36I mean, last time I was with you, I said that I would hit TK
- 17:39Subs by the end of this year. Mon just over 1.5 K, that's not
- 17:44going to happen. Unless I go magically like viral
- 17:48or Soto 1.5. Yeah, I'm doing, I'm not
- 17:51complaining at all. Why I overshot with the
- 17:53estimation but 1.5 is amazing and sincere.
- 17:56Thank you to everyone of you they subscribed.
- 18:00But I think I set myself an unrealistic goal in the sense
- 18:04that with the, I was forgetting that I had covid last year.
- 18:07I know it sounds weird, but I was followed from work.
- 18:11And so I had a whole year of being able to stream everyday,
- 18:16make non-stop content. And you know, I've gone back to
- 18:19work this year and worked my ass off since January.
- 18:23And you know, when I come home do I have the motivation to
- 18:27stream everyday? Of course not.
- 18:29You know sometimes it is difficult to get a video out in
- 18:32a week. It's just, you know, things
- 18:35things change, the circumstances have changed and in terms of the
- 18:39shorts as well. What you were saying about the
- 18:43shorts? I think it's interesting that
- 18:46once shorts became a bit more recognizable after like the boom
- 18:49of tick-tock and people are, oh my God.
- 18:51Have you heard about YouTube shorts?
- 18:52People got a big boost in views. Yeah.
- 18:55Then it died down again because the trend kind of went down now.
- 18:58I think we're going into a trading with it again, where
- 19:00people are. Oh yeah, YouTube shorts.
- 19:02I have forgot about that. Oh yeah, let's get back on that.
- 19:05And more and more people are going on to it as an alternative
- 19:07to ticked up because they scroll through their Tick-Tock found
- 19:09everything. Now they're going to it's to try
- 19:12and find some content. I'm gonna shit on Tick-Tock for
- 19:14a little bit, so, there it is. Okay, now the reason why I'm
- 19:18going to do this is for two reasons, one, because they
- 19:20deserve it, sort out your bloody up.
- 19:22Secondly, I'll get to why. I just want to go on a bit of a
- 19:25rant, right? So Instagram is, we all know
- 19:29that Instagram is trying to be Tick-Tock right there.
- 19:32That's what the trendy that's that's what reels is, reels is
- 19:34basically, they're trying to do Tick-Tock and no one really
- 19:37cares about reels. Like, reels get views.
- 19:40Don't get me wrong, but it's like It is the other, maybe it's
- 19:43something to do with the the app like the the UI or something.
- 19:47There's just something off their that, it's not easy, accessible
- 19:51on the app. And I feel like only people who
- 19:53are like Diehard Instagram. And I use Instagram users
- 19:57newsreels because Plessy, that's that things are going to other
- 20:00platforms. I think the people that are
- 20:02DieHard, Instagram users probably don't really use, I
- 20:06mean, maybe I'm wrong on this, but like, you remember like,
- 20:08what principally what Instagram is for is to, you know, Sort of
- 20:13broadcast yourself as far as like images is concerned and
- 20:16maybe videos. Yeah, it's an image Focus.
- 20:18Tap it's about, you know, like this is my life.
- 20:21This is what I do or to promote a business or a brand or some
- 20:24shit like that. This real thing, it don't get me
- 20:28wrong it's huge the numbers are there.
- 20:29Like I'm not saying it's not big or anything.
- 20:31I'm just saying that your average Instagram user they
- 20:34probably have like a small interest in reels but they're
- 20:37not like addicted to it. Like how if you're using
- 20:41tick-tock? You are probably addicted to the
- 20:43a plan, and that's not a bad thing, you know, I mean, I'm
- 20:45addicted to it, too, but it's like, it's different.
- 20:48Because when you were committed Creator, trying to grow a brand,
- 20:51that's very different from someone just mucking around
- 20:54having a laugh. It's different different folks.
- 20:57Different of course, yeah. But the interesting thing is
- 20:59that while Instagram is trying to match everything that tick
- 21:04tocks doing like now you can reply to comments with videos.
- 21:07That's a big feature. I noticed the other day.
- 21:09Yeah and I think too. An extent shorts is trying to do
- 21:13a similar thing. I don't know necessarily that
- 21:17they'll go to full hog and completely copy to talk but they
- 21:20that's basically why it exists. It is a gap in the market.
- 21:24It's why it's not Gap in the muck.
- 21:25It's it's a new type of I can't even say it's new really.
- 21:32Here's what I don't know what never work, right?
- 21:35This will never work for shorts and telling you this if they
- 21:38copy took taught you in it, while this is why they can never
- 21:41copy Tick Tock, which is why this will never be the same kind
- 21:44of rival. Tick-Tock.
- 21:46One of the main things of it is copyrighted music.
- 21:51People dance, it like songs, go viral on Tick-Tock and people do
- 21:55their dance, things to more than lip-syncs or whatever.
- 21:58And that's how its run. YouTube, the algorithm will not
- 22:01allow that you are not going to be able to monetize those.
- 22:04Therefore people are not uploading that kind of content
- 22:07to YouTube shorts. I will say though because my
- 22:14YouTube shorts account is probably going to get to a K1 K
- 22:17or more probably in the next year or so now and that's what
- 22:20we are. That's that's not me flexing.
- 22:22I'm just saying it's growing quickly.
- 22:24If it continues the way it continues, it it probably will
- 22:26happen. And I thought about this, I
- 22:28thought about the concept of maybe getting monetized, but
- 22:31I've seen the very top creators that have shorts accounts and
- 22:35they just laugh, but they show you how much they earn and it's
- 22:37there's not a joke because what Forget is that the videos are
- 22:40less than a minute. So how much are you really going
- 22:44to let you get like Hundreds of millions of users and even then
- 22:48you'll probably get peanuts. So even if your goal is to get
- 22:53big free short, I don't think that you're going to like, make
- 22:56like, it's not really something to make money with really it's
- 22:59no nay go a following, yeah, complement other content.
- 23:03Yeah, it needs to be like, for instance, so my advice would be
- 23:07say you're a streamer, and you're playing, I don't know,
- 23:11Call of Duty. Will say, do your strings have
- 23:16Just ask what your view is go. That's where your ad revenue is.
- 23:19That's where your make your money from viewers on that.
- 23:22Your shorts, your kill, the you do an awesome kill that.
- 23:27You did a minute clip of that string upload like five of
- 23:31those. Over the course of the week
- 23:33before your stream, do your string.
- 23:35Because the viewers from make sure people can obviously
- 23:37clearly identify from that short where to go through the stream
- 23:41and it's just symbiotic, marketing know, they just it.
- 23:46Works perfectly together, but if you're going to rely on shorts
- 23:49to, you know, fund your lifestyle and get it, I'm sorry
- 23:56guys, YouTube, don't pay that any more on normal videos, let
- 24:00that kind of stuff. Like there's no Logan and Jake
- 24:03pools being created from today's YouTube.
- 24:05Monetary system that point that you made is stellar.
- 24:08And I'll be honest, I never considered that.
- 24:10I've seen that. Obviously many of my shorts get
- 24:12copyright claimed so it happens on Instagram.
- 24:16Fuck. Got retrospect retroactive one
- 24:18where they claim something and block the video from like a year
- 24:23and a half ago, or something. I'm not.
- 24:24Why do you care like this video? Didn't even get like, 50 views
- 24:27that why'd you put wherever the yeah, no, you're right.
- 24:31You're right. That's 100% why I think it's and
- 24:33they can't do it even if they wanted to do that.
- 24:35And they would have to change so much that it wouldn't be worth
- 24:38it. So, yeah, totally agree.
- 24:41You heard about the state of the copyright landscape recently in
- 24:44YouTube. Yeah.
- 24:46Yeah, I just assume it's eternally shit, but I haven't
- 24:50heard any news. Well, this, so I'll give, I'll
- 24:52give you a balmy. Quickie story, rules are broken
- 24:56down quickly, and so, there was a YouTuber, I forget his name.
- 25:00Now, relatively relatively decent sized YouTuber.
- 25:04I don't think it's got million subs or anything like that, but
- 25:07and he would say something Mark. Mark, is in the name, somewhere
- 25:12Mark? No, no.
- 25:13Wasn't Markiplier. It might be like a guy called.
- 25:16Of course something like that. It's just very thing.
- 25:18He name and he reveal Homer. Oh hi Mark.
- 25:22Yeah he refused out of me. He's okay.
- 25:25Absolutely loves Dragonball one piece stuff like that and the
- 25:29company the parent company. Terry animation recently came
- 25:33through and overnight took down 150 of his videos via manual,
- 25:38playing blocked them online. They have reviews of anime in
- 25:44fair, use terms and And he has to go to a lawsuit over it
- 25:49because to actually dispute all 150.
- 25:55Someone figured out like it's not possible in his lifetime
- 25:58with the way YouTube disputes work.
- 25:59And the fact you can only have one open at a time.
- 26:02They take 30 days to be resolved.
- 26:05Well, like, it's just ridiculous.
- 26:07And so funny thing is the horrible movies are on YouTube
- 26:11to watch but you can't watch his reviews of Dragon Ball so, but
- 26:15the, the issue, You not just to break it down in simplistic.
- 26:18Terms is basically because he's used clips and they're like you
- 26:21can't just Eclipse. Yeah.
- 26:23I like this is our content. It's not transformative to
- 26:26review. Of course, it's transformative.
- 26:28I mean you could okay I'm not agreeing with this because I
- 26:30think it's bullshit but I mean maybe he and other reviewers
- 26:34should not include clips and YouTube should be like really
- 26:38you know straightforward about it like you can't vote, you
- 26:40can't have Clips kind of thing and then they get that.
- 26:43But then I do understand that point of view, but Like as final
- 26:47he's done reviews before and like in my most recent
- 26:50Spider-Man video, right? My Spider-Man to review, its put
- 26:53a border over it and I'm dancing anime, girl, GIF, that was that
- 26:58I reduce the opacity on because Sony would absolutely kill me.
- 27:03But how do I talk about the moment that Peter and Doc Ock
- 27:10fight on that train without showing just some of that
- 27:15footage? Not Things because I work in a
- 27:17very simple system of three seconds cut.
- 27:21Even if you're going to show more footage, you jump forward,
- 27:24a few seconds and then started from this, you keeping the face
- 27:28turns. How am I properly going to
- 27:30explain the emotion, when New York gives Peter back his mask?
- 27:35And says, we won't tell anybody without showing just a bit of
- 27:39that scene, you can reenact it. So I could have done that.
- 27:42Actually, yeah, that I'd actually prefer to watch that
- 27:45first. Ask it something.
- 27:48Yeah. Like I was working on an Arcane
- 27:54video, which I've got Bo. So don't think he's going to
- 27:56come out now because I tried recording like twice and had
- 27:59issues, you know, when you get to that point, we just like, you
- 28:01know what the moments gone. But like, when I was doing
- 28:05working on that, I can't talk about how beautiful and
- 28:11breathtaking the animation is without just showing a little
- 28:15bit of that animation. Is me sitting in this then in,
- 28:19you know, in this lighting doesn't really reflect what I'm
- 28:23talking about, unless I can show part of that.
- 28:26And I don't think it's an issue because you're not.
- 28:29Nobody is going to that content. Hmm, and saying, well, I've I've
- 28:34seen the Clips in his review. So why would I need to watch the
- 28:37movie - thinking that, like, if anything, you're going to watch
- 28:41it. Be like, you know what, either I
- 28:43haven't seen that and I'm going to give it a go.
- 28:45It's been a A while since I've seen that, you know what?
- 28:47Yeah, let's let's get the DVD out.
- 28:50Let's go. Well, I was just so now I
- 28:52completely agree with you. I'm just playing Devil's
- 28:55Advocate. I reckon the way up the way that
- 28:57they think is all. Well, you know, you can just not
- 29:00use the clips or you know it's copyright.
- 29:03You can't do that, blah blah, blah blah blah blah blah, and
- 29:05it's that. But you're right like to every
- 29:09review you've probably ever seen.
- 29:10That's actually worth watching aside from there are reviews
- 29:13without clips and stuff, but it's always.
- 29:16When you have the clips you just add something like I just wish I
- 29:21could say to these companies like.
- 29:24Okay. So I have an 3 pounds from this
- 29:31and there is a high chance that 50% of the people that have
- 29:36watched this video have walked away with the thought all add
- 29:41SHINee. You know what, I'm going to give
- 29:42that watch. So you have paid me essentially,
- 29:45three pound to use your content but I'm not claiming me and you
- 29:49have and, you know, I well I don't really know with streaming
- 29:53services and whatnot. On both, the content is on
- 29:55there, you have More than doubled your money.
- 29:58I would say at least, in terms of you know, whether it be
- 30:01subscriptions or whether people go and buy on Amazon Prime,
- 30:04whatever it's stupid to attack the Creator that is promoting
- 30:09your brand. You are not paying them anything
- 30:12to do that. They are using their time and
- 30:15their energy to promote your products.
- 30:18The people that are paying for it or a third-party, our Google,
- 30:23with their advertisements, you are basically getting away,
- 30:25you're not paying anything. They're promoting your brand,
- 30:28the copyright claim is pointless.
- 30:32The very small amount of money. You will take away from a small
- 30:35YouTuber or a bigger YouTuber. You know, saying take like a
- 30:38hundred pounds from YouTuber. That's for that money to be
- 30:44accumulated by Google and give into that.
- 30:46Crater the amount of views that must have.
- 30:50What are you doing? You are much better, just
- 30:53letting the, the promotion go out, then making a hundred quid
- 30:57off it because you will make more from that that free
- 30:59promotion essentially. And they just don't see that
- 31:02they see the dollar signs. And it's just, you know, you
- 31:05understand, make a very good point.
- 31:07Actually, every time they ever talk about this stuff.
- 31:11So we When yeah, whenever someone is talking about your
- 31:13product, your movie. That's free advertising for you.
- 31:16You know, especially if a person has a following I mean And I
- 31:21think that's part of it as well. Like I imagine if you have like
- 31:26a couple of million followers, I doubt that stuff's getting
- 31:29claimed. You know?
- 31:30The mean because it's like look at this audience from what I've
- 31:33seen. It's more so the radar.
- 31:35Yeah. But the Anchorage Osho is a
- 31:38fantastic example. The Cosmonaut variety hour.
- 31:42They've all had big issues with copyright where companies have
- 31:48gone from these has Channels with me.
- 31:50Ian's of subscribers whose videos do over 100,000 views,
- 31:55each video, at least, you know, I know summer cosmonauts, have
- 31:57got millions and he's had copyright issues, particularly
- 32:01from Warner Brothers, Warner Brothers, are the worst of the
- 32:04worst, it just want to point that out.
- 32:06They really do not want people talking about their stuff
- 32:09clearly and that, yeah, they're just constantly Under Fire with
- 32:14this stuff, you know. I just want to add to this as
- 32:17well. It's check quickly.
- 32:18I saw I was watching some in the other About this, like, like,
- 32:21how crazy copyright can go. And I think Disney might
- 32:25actually be the worst of all, because I've heard that in some
- 32:29cases. Like, if you, okay, let's say
- 32:32you wanna have like a children's birthday party, right?
- 32:35And you just want to have like a mock-up image of like alone,
- 32:40Mickey Mouse, right? They will sue your ass for that
- 32:43shit. Like, even though it's like it's
- 32:47just some kid's birthday party, who cares, right?
- 32:50I think stable got outside yourself and so I don't think
- 32:54that's the case now so much. So I know for a fact that Nikki
- 32:59was supposed to be in the public domain really doesn't.
- 33:02Yeah. Cuz it's like, 100 years of the
- 33:04character you, but it's still actively.
- 33:07That's the thing that they stopped it.
- 33:09They, they have stopped it, they have retained it.
- 33:11So it's not in the public domain.
- 33:13Yeah, that's, that's what I mean.
- 33:14They can, they continue it? They continually extend the
- 33:17license and stuff on it. Yeah, but I think Disney Kind of
- 33:20waking up as a company a little bit.
- 33:22I know people view them as the thing of all evil, I do get that
- 33:27but I, I don't know. I just feel like they might be
- 33:32cleaning up their act slightly like in terms of YouTube's
- 33:35copyright, I get very few issues from Disney.
- 33:40I got a claim for playing Kingdom Hearts last year for
- 33:45playing Kingdom Hearts 3 and they released it very quickly.
- 33:50Lee. I disputed it and within a
- 33:51couple of days, they release this so that didn't go to the
- 33:5530-day thing. We default to my favor, someone
- 33:58manually reviewed and said, you know what, fair enough recently.
- 34:02I don't know if you know about it, but Sora from Kingdom
- 34:04Hearts, was added, Smash Bros who I haven't received, a single
- 34:09claim for the music. When I've been stream is Master,
- 34:12I've been having it as my reading music because I
- 34:14absolutely love the Kingdom Hearts series.
- 34:16I want to well, the, the best moment of the entire smash I
- 34:20guess for me and I have not received one claim.
- 34:23I've been streaming Kingdom Hearts 2, which has variations
- 34:28on the classic Disney music that disney-owned.
- 34:31No, not a single issue. So, I do think they're wise
- 34:34enough to it particularly, seeing, as the Warner Brothers,
- 34:37versity seen as sorry. Warner Brothers, First, Disney
- 34:39wall continues, Warner Brothers, just keep getting worse.
- 34:43And I think Disney have realized, like, okay, people
- 34:46enjoy our movies more in this whole superhero.
- 34:50Or were having. So how about we get the
- 34:51community even more on side and stop, claiming them for
- 34:55everything they have and then yeah, yeah, I have to say, Well,
- 34:58since they bought Marvel things, do seem to be changing for
- 35:02better and worse. I mean, you know, the Star Wars
- 35:05movies is, you know, it's a very diverse of kind of.
- 35:09Is it? Polarizing issue?
- 35:10Is it polarizing? Because most people agree, it
- 35:14was bullshit. He's a hunter eyes I see a lot
- 35:18of people that don't you know what, you know what is right.
- 35:21I don't hear anyone going and I'm sure there are some people
- 35:24that genuinely love those movies but I don't hear anyone going
- 35:28like Ah that's amazing that these movies were amazing but
- 35:32you know the one thing I do kind of feel for them on is the fact
- 35:37that like Naturally, those movies get compared to that.
- 35:41The original original Star Wars movies and the original original
- 35:44ones. Like not only are they good Star
- 35:47Wars movies, they are good. But they are Classic Cinema.
- 35:52That's that's the big difference.
- 35:53They are like, yes, like yes, but great.
- 35:56Great is some of the greatest movies.
- 35:58Ever met. Like, Empire Strikes Back is
- 36:00arguably, probably the best sequel ever made to any movie,
- 36:03you know? I mean, and then there's loads
- 36:04out. I agree.
- 36:05I agree. I think there's a few others on
- 36:06the same. Yeah, yeah, yeah, great.
- 36:10So I only know one person that loves these include trilogy, Now
- 36:15if you're watching this showers to you but God, no I view the
- 36:22sequel was on the same level that I view the prequels.
- 36:26Yeah. Revenge - see - - the fun
- 36:30prequel so the fund means there's no means.
- 36:34I think Revenge of the Sith is the best of the prequel trilogy.
- 36:39I actually think it's a decent Star Wars movie, you know, third
- 36:43one in this. A saga.
- 36:46I think the force awakens is a genuinely good Star Wars, maybe.
- 36:51Yes. I've had a lot of fun with that
- 36:54but it's just a remake of a new hope.
- 36:56It is anticipated by the number of plays it by the numbers.
- 37:04Do they actually made the same movie?
- 37:07Yes. Think about the plot structure
- 37:13of a phantom menace. Okay, but here's the thing.
- 37:19See ya, the plot that the divide, the plot device is
- 37:22always the same across all of those movies more or less except
- 37:25for Attack of the Clones where it's just talking talking
- 37:27talking, talking talking, most forgettable film I've ever seen.
- 37:31It's aside from like the few good mean, worthy points.
- 37:35All I remember from that movie is Anakin sand talking Jango
- 37:42Fett. Oh yeah.
- 37:45The things I remember about Jango Fett and, and Kenobi on
- 37:51kamino. The Camino was good.
- 37:52That was good. Yeah.
- 37:53But do you know flipping about with a lightsaber for the first
- 37:55time? That was okay, right.
- 38:00That I don't think it's a good movie.
- 38:01I don't like it but you have to admit when you're in the cinema
- 38:05as a church to. Oh, yeah, you saw him under seat
- 38:07belt. Light, save your life.
- 38:09Yeah, that was. Yeah, of course, of course.
- 38:11But I thought in the third, the third movie, Revenge of the Sith
- 38:14I do, That movie. I think it's fun.
- 38:16Yes, I think is really good. I think it's saved the pretty
- 38:20Coast. Be honest.
- 38:22I don't think it could save it. I think it did.
- 38:24So I think at that point, if they'd just done another ship
- 38:27movie, that would have been it. Brendan is saved as a as a
- 38:31Trilogy, it's terrible. But I feel like the third one is
- 38:35like George, Lucas BMO. We are sorry for everything else
- 38:39and that Jim do, you know I mean like I know that it's him
- 38:42saying. I'm so sorry about Jar Jar
- 38:44Binks. Here's Yeah.
- 38:46Well have you heard this stuff about charger?
- 38:48The batt the original plan. Yeah, I think it's BS.
- 38:52George. Lucas has said it, what did he
- 38:55plan to have him as a Sith? Lord, not necessarily as a Sith
- 39:00Lords but George, I was meant to have a much bigger and darker
- 39:05role is what he said, but even the fans hated it, so much, that
- 39:11scrapped, it, that would have been so much better because it
- 39:14would have been It would have been swell.
- 39:16The reason why I would have been cool is because his character
- 39:18act stupid, right? And this idea that he's actually
- 39:23putting on an act, makes him an even greater villain, but I
- 39:26agree, but instead, use just annoying, he was supposed to be
- 39:31comedy relief, but it wasn't funny.
- 39:33That's how he was just a bit like of a racist caricature at
- 39:36the end of the day, like that. Well, there's bit, there's been
- 39:40a lot of calls about it being quite racist, but I heard that I
- 39:46am a middle-aged white guy. I can't speak on those matters
- 39:48of the end of the day, but there's been a lot of talk on
- 39:51that and there's been a lot of talk on like the actor himself.
- 39:58I think he's self-harmed over. I think d'amigo out to say yes,
- 40:02I got like a lot of backlash and bullied for that, which is not
- 40:05cool. Now, there's an obvious, I'm not
- 40:08being funny, right? These idiots that watch movies
- 40:11and then Target the actor. Like it.
- 40:13Like it's the actors for the actors playing.
- 40:15Roll. You idiots.
- 40:19Let me say it's about the Sonic Community, actually, because
- 40:22this is a really valid point that I've really had to drive
- 40:25home this year. And I've really been I've argued
- 40:27the toss for people over. So a lot of people have been
- 40:32unhappy with the way that someone has been written since
- 40:37about 2010. And that's when the new voice
- 40:40actor. Roger Craig Smith came in in
- 40:422010 as at the I'm time as new writers.
- 40:47And all Roger has received was not all he's received by here
- 40:51for. She's a massive amount of hay
- 40:55from the fans because although he's written, so cheese Ali.
- 40:59No, and there's no depth to the character and it's just like, I
- 41:04remember when I interviewed him, the amount of people that gave
- 41:06him hate on it and I was just like, he doesn't write his
- 41:10lines, he doesn't write how the character is portrayed.
- 41:14And People are suing all they are now it's all his fault and
- 41:17it's, I know, it's these terrible writers that just
- 41:21aren't doing anything with the character, like he is doing the
- 41:24very best with what he is. Give it a go to say.
- 41:27There's something I really don't like about fan culture in make
- 41:32because I don't ever remember I'm sure this happened.
- 41:35You know when we were kids and before then like I'm sure people
- 41:40I think I remember hearing about that when Star Trek Next Gen
- 41:43came out people you know they have received hey 84 that, you
- 41:45know, for example versus old Star Trek fan, but I think the
- 41:48concept is stupid. Like, look whenever you really
- 41:51something new, there's just going to be people that don't
- 41:54like it and even if it's kind of universally agreed that it sucks
- 41:57like don't Target people like you know what?
- 42:01Like I say this about those Star Wars movies, right?
- 42:06At least they're like They are coherent stories, their stuff
- 42:12you can, you can enjoy even enjoy them as movies, you know,
- 42:15you can get entertainment from them and the Act and the ACT
- 42:19isn't your did, their best. And then the directors had their
- 42:21own vision for ETC. When I think about and I've said
- 42:24this on the podcast before, when I think about that, the Game of
- 42:28Thrones season finale, right? That angered me, not because of
- 42:34anything that the actors did or, you know, even particularly
- 42:38Story. You know, the story was, it was
- 42:41what it was, but my problem was that, it was clearly rushed and
- 42:45it was lazy. And it was, it didn't make any
- 42:47logical sense. For example, just a quick thing.
- 42:52And again, I said this before, so sorry, but to drive the home
- 42:55Point, there's a character called it bran.
- 42:59I think his name is the, what the one who gets like crippled
- 43:02at the beginning of the first season.
- 43:04And then he becomes the black eyed Raven and then That's what
- 43:09you think is three-eyed Raven Weaver's.
- 43:11That's his story arc. Okay.
- 43:13And it comes into full effect and it's cool.
- 43:15It's interesting, it's always this going.
- 43:17And then randomly season a oh okay he's going to be king.
- 43:23What? Like there was there was no set
- 43:25up for that. There was no excuse for out the
- 43:27entire eight seasons. It was also contradicting
- 43:32contradictory because his character is supposed to what
- 43:35the point of his characteristic, his old character that Run is
- 43:39now dead and all it is. Is this three-eyed Raven?
- 43:43Character is replaced it. That's what you're supposed to
- 43:45believe. And this character is supposed
- 43:47to be above, you know, things like ego and stuff like that.
- 43:53But him going to Druid isn't he by that regard?
- 43:57Kind of. Yeah.
- 43:58So, like, one with nature, not to be tied to a throat you.
- 44:02Yeah. The whole point is that he
- 44:03wouldn't have either. Yeah, because if you're going to
- 44:05be king, there's a certain amount of ego involved.
- 44:07You know, you believe you, You are good enough to rule the
- 44:10Kingdom's and Bob are right. But and then that final season,
- 44:16but he's pushing he actually wants to become king and I'm
- 44:19like, yeah, but this, this is contradictory to his character.
- 44:22This doesn't make any sense. Anyway, I think that was what
- 44:27annoyed me not anything else, you know?
- 44:29Like I think we're stories at the end of the day you can't,
- 44:33please everyone. You just can't.
- 44:34It's impossible. And I check changes inevitable.
- 44:37Like, you going back to the Sonic point?
- 44:39The original actor? I mean, how long did you do that
- 44:41for like, a long, long time? I mean, we've had a few
- 44:44different actors. Okay.
- 44:46The current Sonic has been the longest running, okay, Sonic 4
- 44:50Pro decade. Now there will come a time when
- 44:54he leaves the role you know and And they'll be a whole new
- 44:57generation of fans that will have grown up with Roger and
- 45:00hate the new one and it's service.
- 45:02It's just like, it's like, it's like Doctor Who, you know, like
- 45:05when everyone grew up with Tenon and then Matt Smith came along
- 45:09and said, who's that smooth and then they give him a chance,
- 45:11they find. They're like him and then they
- 45:13hate the next person and it's just like this is stupid.
- 45:17Like look, it is I get the people don't like it when
- 45:20something changes, you know, they like they want to remember
- 45:23how it was and stuff, but change is inevitable.
- 45:25Change is part of life and you got to embrace it.
- 45:29I think I think one of the big things is the judgment on
- 45:32whether that is the correct thing to do though.
- 45:35Like with a lot of things like let's look at Two and a Half Men
- 45:38for instance, right? I was an intern on them fan,
- 45:40right? So once you had got rid of
- 45:43Charlie Sheen, yes, we can change to Ashton Kutcher.
- 45:48We can continue for all the four or five seasons but should we
- 45:54No, that's that's where the Judgment needed to come in, you
- 45:59know, I'll dig around. I don't hate on Ashton Kutcher's
- 46:01performance in it and I don't hate on those that those
- 46:04Seasons, but the show was the show was Charlie Sheen, and I
- 46:08think it should have been wrapped their.
- 46:10See, here's where I disagree with you.
- 46:13I agree that the heart and soul of that show was definitely the
- 46:17area with Charlie Sheen and it was definitely the best episodes
- 46:19hands down but they had a real chance.
- 46:24Chance to revamp the show with Kushner do something, different.
- 46:27When you think about his, here's the thing, okay, is just a
- 46:30comedy show, right? So logic and reasoning.
- 46:32Doesn't have to always be there. But let's just look at the story
- 46:35for one second right. Charlie's brother.
- 46:41He's leaching of his brother. And and the reason why that's
- 46:45loud is because they're brothers and blah, blah blah, right?
- 46:47Yeah, and they love each other, okay?
- 46:49And therefore each other, that makes sense.
- 46:50That story makes sense, people can relate to that when Ashton's
- 46:54cooked Kutcher's character came in.
- 46:55He's a billionaire who happens to buy this house and Charlie's
- 47:04brother is initially kind of showing him around this place
- 47:08and manages to weasel his way into staying there.
- 47:11Right by being, a sort of a guide, I don't know, like a kind
- 47:16of leaching friend, which kind of is funny in the beginning.
- 47:20But then after a while you're like, why wouldn't this guy just
- 47:23tell them to effort, get the hell out of my out?
- 47:25Like, stop pinching off me, you know, because he's maybe it's
- 47:27the point like, oh, we're going to adopt a child together and
- 47:29pretend, we're married and all this kind of stuff and I'm like,
- 47:33you have run out of ideas. Yeah, that does scare and simple
- 47:37and it's like, don't get me wrong, I think it could have
- 47:40been something. but when you look at it, like, Chop the whole
- 47:46dichotomy of it wasn't just that he was leeching off his brother.
- 47:49It's the Charlie was a cold unaffectionate alcoholic.
- 47:55Mmm, that's a sex addict. Essentially, who was learning to
- 48:01open up to family again and learning to be tolerant and
- 48:05learning to fall in love and things like that.
- 48:08And It just felt like his a reinvention of that character
- 48:16type where he can do all of those things.
- 48:21But he's got an innocence to him where it's like, but he doesn't
- 48:25do those things but he's Goodrich he's realizing that he
- 48:28could be a billionaire playboy kind of thing and Allen kind of
- 48:30keeps them on track and it's just like, it just wasn't the
- 48:34same Dynamic. It was an interesting.
- 48:36And another great example of why I was saying I think his UPS
- 48:41scrubs finished with season 8, as far as I'm concerned when JD
- 48:46walks through that hallway and he sees all the images from his
- 48:50past and he sees what's going to happen, Miss future with him and
- 48:52Elliot having kids, and he walks down the hallway, finishes his
- 48:55last day of Sacred Heart. That is the end and then what
- 48:59did they decide to do? Will bring them back, we'll do a
- 49:02season with brand new characters, but we'll bring that
- 49:05main cast back to be mentor and characters and move.
- 49:08Reinventing it. And we're In Scrubs differently.
- 49:11No, stop because it was fucking terrible.
- 49:14And it destroyed everything. They did in that last episode
- 49:18because moments of closure, you had, you know, but something
- 49:21we're talking about here, which is important.
- 49:23Is this concept of reinvention? You can reinvent, but you've got
- 49:27to give time for people to love the new characters.
- 49:30Like, for example, look at the unsuccessful Ghostbusters movie
- 49:34from 2016, right? Yeah.
- 49:36The original characters from what I understand because I've
- 49:39never saw them. What I got told is apparently
- 49:41they played like cameos in the movie and what people will
- 49:47really clamoring for what people really wanted was a third
- 49:51Ghostbusters movie and it would have, you would have been able
- 49:57to introduce an all-female cast. If you'd have kind of had like a
- 50:03passing of the torch moment, you know what I mean?
- 50:07I think I'm stupid. That is something that we kind
- 50:09of touched upon. Earlier is none of this stuff
- 50:12works. No matter how much like
- 50:15Nostalgia you put in or whatever.
- 50:17If there is not good writing, good writing is the backbone.
- 50:22You can introduce me, you could give me a new four-person cast
- 50:27of Brad Pitt and Angelina Angelina, Jolie Leonardo
- 50:33DiCaprio. Give me that.
- 50:40If they're not written well then that is going to suck.
- 50:44It's not going to resonate with audiences and they're not going
- 50:47to be invested. If it's written correctly.
- 50:51You have something fantastic. Do you can build on that
- 50:53reinvention with and yeah I just think it comes down to it all
- 50:56the time. The backbone, the solid backbone
- 50:59of any production is the writing.
- 51:02It can look like crap but if you if you can resonate with that
- 51:06story, if you are gripped by it and you want to go into every
- 51:11episode wanting more or, you know, the next movie or
- 51:13whatever, then you've done it, it's all about the writing, it's
- 51:16all about the narrative. Yeah, you know, you nailed that
- 51:20one. I couldn't agree more and I just
- 51:22want to tie up on the reinvention thing.
- 51:24I think. You got to have a combination of
- 51:28the two day so you need good writing for the story.
- 51:30But, you know, you like, for instance, with this new
- 51:34Ghostbusters movie, that's exactly what they're doing
- 51:36actually, is the passing of the torch them, like, they've got
- 51:39record. Don't get me wrong, they got
- 51:40recognizable actors for this generation that you'd know like,
- 51:44was it Finn from from stranger things?
- 51:47Pull her out. Pull, right.
- 51:48Yeah. Like people that you would like
- 51:50and people, you know. Yeah.
- 51:51But point is, it's for a new generation but it's got that
- 51:54first Alger but it's handing over Like they did that.
- 51:57Well in the force awakens, to be honest.
- 52:00I mean zactly, you know, you had Han Solo and chewy and and
- 52:05Princess Leia. But then, you know, you
- 52:06introduce these new characters and and it was exciting, you
- 52:09know, it was exciting. Here's this Jedi that, you know,
- 52:12nothing about that is really powerful and what's going on
- 52:16there and it has to be a Skywalker.
- 52:19Yeah, that are powerful team and we've been so much cooler if
- 52:23they did this end of that movie, right?
- 52:26With her. Her going into.
- 52:28Are you? And she just went Palpatine and
- 52:31then just civilization no, that would have been amazing because
- 52:40it's just fantasy or he's come to life and I hate it so much.
- 52:47You think that's what it was. Then my people hated The Last
- 52:49Jedi so much that there was just too much.
- 52:52Then the third movie was so kind of retcon it.
- 52:54Basically this is the problem, right?
- 52:56Because Star Wars fans. It's just, I'm one of them so I
- 53:01feel friend. I know you are as well, so don't
- 53:03take offense, but I'm just gonna sell them all of us.
- 53:05Now, we are all fucking idiots, man.
- 53:09It's like so we see Ray in the force awakens and it's like, oh
- 53:14so she could be Obi-Wan's daughter.
- 53:16Oh, oh, I imagine if she was like Palpatine's granddaughter
- 53:19or she's definitely a Skywalker because she can't just be
- 53:23someone else that isn't connected to anyone.
- 53:28And then Brian Johnson was like, no, that's exactly what I'm
- 53:31going to do and then go wrong. I really don't like the Last
- 53:33Jedi but he did it and I wasn't okay with it.
- 53:36The start, because I'm one of those Star Wars fan.
- 53:38So I was like, you know, I've made peace with this.
- 53:41She is nobody. That's kind of exciting that not
- 53:44every Jedi. And this thing has to be from
- 53:45the same families and then we get to the third one where it's
- 53:49like, oh yeah, yeah, people really didn't like the Last
- 53:53Jedi. Now, let me go on a ready, and
- 53:55let me just see what the top fan theories.
- 53:57I've raised a pal 13. Yo, that could work at JJ on the
- 54:01phone. Let's get this written up.
- 54:02And yeah, he'll come back for it.
- 54:04He's not starting anything for a while, you know, make a bit of
- 54:06money. Yeah, call us get done.
- 54:08No. Stop like I'm a fan, stop
- 54:12listening to us. When is it ever go?
- 54:15Well when people base entire plots on fan theories like
- 54:20wasn't I wasn't a fan of Palpatine coming back.
- 54:23I loved carrots. Don't we Rollin I love in
- 54:25McDermott. I think it's brilliant character
- 54:27but To me that kind of killed the ending of Return of the Jedi
- 54:32in a way, because it was like, oh, he some but even was a typo
- 54:37damn room when he's just like, somehow he came back.
- 54:41Right. And that's exactly the sense of
- 54:43Haiti everyone's head. So this is the thing Palpatine.
- 54:48As he has written an extended media and whatnot is powerful
- 54:53enough to survive. What happened?
- 54:55Yeah, the Jedi so For if you're going to bring him back and
- 55:01again we come back to my point about oh well written narrative.
- 55:04If we're going to bring him back and there is some explanation,
- 55:08some well-written story as to how that's happened.
- 55:11I am all for it. Explain the greater loss,
- 55:13explain how connected he is with the force.
- 55:16Do not, tell me in a title screen, title cruel reveal that
- 55:22he's back and then have Oscar Isaac to say, somehow Palpatine
- 55:26has returned and that be it. Like that's not good narrative.
- 55:31That's low narrative that says, no worries there.
- 55:34It's like the excitement. That's frozen.
- 55:36Everyone is someone going, oh, and then something happened, and
- 55:40it sort of happened and then this happened.
- 55:42Okay. Great.
- 55:42Cool. Start seem like, it's like, just
- 55:47accepted just accept it. Yeah, you know what?
- 55:49Like, I half expected, there's some point senses, your comic
- 55:53and just be like, oh, want to know the bit that we couldn't be
- 55:56more than surrounding to, the story, here it goes.
- 55:58We'll do that. People hate it so much, just
- 56:01like that. Seeing that clo.
- 56:03Let's switch it up. I love how this to cover style
- 56:06was podcast. Yeah, that's that's medium.
- 56:10You've secured a job at Sega. Yes, you now work as say go,
- 56:15this is mad telework and Sega tell us about this job, what it
- 56:19means to you and how you got it. So I was working for a company
- 56:24previous, see that where I built PCS for the VFX architecture and
- 56:29gaming Industries. So big bad boy PCS.
- 56:34You know 38 years? 30 90s, All That Jazz.
- 56:39And it was great. I was having so much fun with it
- 56:43honestly. Awesome.
- 56:44And I got to a point where I was building PCS for Sega through
- 56:50that job. They were one of the customers
- 56:54and I've always kind of Been updated on LinkedIn stuff with
- 57:01people at Sega, I've always kind of followed that stuff because
- 57:04they're part of the job. As a Sonic cheaper is 0 that
- 57:07they're hiring for a new project.
- 57:09Okay. What's going on there then?
- 57:11And one thing just kind of led to another in a series of crazy
- 57:20events and things happening. I just I didn't plan for and
- 57:27Yeah. Now I am working as on the help
- 57:32desk that the it help desk at Sega, it's it's crazy.
- 57:39I have to kind of remind myself every day that this is reality.
- 57:44Now it's just I just can't put into words.
- 57:50Like I think people will ever understand because I don't fully
- 57:53understand just how like the entire Destiny of mine has been
- 58:04linked to a video game that I played in 1995.
- 58:09Yeah, and the journey that I've taken over these 28 years I'd
- 58:17now contributing to my favorite franchise will tired.
- 58:22You know, not that not directly. I'm not going to say here that
- 58:24I'm like I working on next Sonic game guys.
- 58:27And that's, that's not how it works.
- 58:29But like it didn't happen, it just saying heads.
- 58:33But you know the people that I'm supporting The issues.
- 58:39I'm fixing all of that kind of thing is all directly affecting
- 58:44this brand and all of the other wonderful brands that Sega has,
- 58:48you know, in the UK. We work very hard on the
- 58:51football manager games every year which I hugely successful
- 58:56and we support, you know, teams like Relic who work on the total
- 59:00war series, it's hugely successful series, the Yakuza
- 59:05series. There's so many amazing friends.
- 59:07Sighs is coming out and Sega and just doing what I do.
- 59:12Kind of well not kind of supports them all and it's just
- 59:16such a surreal feeling it's one. I can't really quantify it just
- 59:22every day. Those Elevate both every day
- 59:24because you know, covid restrictions not every time I go
- 59:27into that office and those elevator doors open.
- 59:29And I just see that massive Sega sign on the doors before I enter
- 59:34and see the big statue of Saint occur.
- 59:36It's just It's crazy. I'm really living the dream
- 59:40right now. Like I just just can't even just
- 59:43can't even like it. When they do guys get this shot.
- 59:47Like the chance in life. It makes me happy.
- 59:50Thank you, bro. I lost.
- 59:53I did. They reach out to you.
- 59:54I know you are obviously that if you can't say the legal reasons,
- 59:58the problem but like I gotta know, like, was it you pushing
- 1:00:03for it or was it they kind of recognize them?
- 1:00:06Like hey what about this? Or like, who kind of extended
- 1:00:10the olive branch? Jose was Mutual.
- 1:00:15Okay. And that's not like a thing of
- 1:00:17like I can't really see. Like it was genuinely talker
- 1:00:21kind of a mutual thing. Hmm through conversation fair
- 1:00:26enough that's actually I had asked and said look do you think
- 1:00:32it's a good idea for me to to go forward for this to go for this
- 1:00:37position? The conversation happened and
- 1:00:41yeah, now we're Congratulations been proud of you.
- 1:00:45Thank you man. Thank you.
- 1:00:48It's crazy. You mentioned it a little bit
- 1:00:51earlier but let's explore this. What can you tell us about?
- 1:00:54You getting the opportunity to voice.
- 1:00:56Sonic the Hedgehog. So not in an official capacity.
- 1:01:01Yeah, guys, do not expect me in the movie or the games, but I'm
- 1:01:05gonna click bait and just say that, your, you voiced Sonic the
- 1:01:09Hedgehog because it's not, it's not a lie.
- 1:01:12It's just, it's just it is to read it for a fan thing.
- 1:01:15Anyway, well I haven't done that yet.
- 1:01:18So there's two projects at the moment.
- 1:01:21There's one that I'm working on with a few people.
- 1:01:24I'm not like the main person on it, but I am going to be voicing
- 1:01:27characters in it, which is awesome.
- 1:01:29We're going into some work in that on that during January.
- 1:01:34There's another one that is being run by one of my channel
- 1:01:38viewers. That is also looking at the
- 1:01:41beginning. Work in January, I believe that
- 1:01:43I have, I've, I think I'm in the running for, to do something
- 1:01:48with, which is really cool. And then, on my channel, I've
- 1:01:51just been doing my own fandubs, as I said, of of cutscenes
- 1:01:56voicing multiple different. Actors.
- 1:02:00And I want to continue my comic series as well.
- 1:02:02My comic dub Series this year. Just during this pandemic has
- 1:02:06been quite difficult to find a female voice actor to come in
- 1:02:10and do a me to be completely honest with you.
- 1:02:12So I can do episode 2, the first episode is Sonic and Tails, the
- 1:02:17second is Sonic and Amy. I think after that, I've got
- 1:02:20like a solid six episodes. Sure, I can voice every
- 1:02:23character and it causes male, but then it gets to the point
- 1:02:26where all the female character start coming into as well.
- 1:02:28And it's like, Looking to do a disservice, by trying to do a
- 1:02:32female voice. So, I'm just gonna try and
- 1:02:36assemble a cost to get this done.
- 1:02:38Hmm. So yeah, like, I'm really loving
- 1:02:42jumping into that world of the voice acting side of things, you
- 1:02:47know, I'm not gonna sit here and say that I'm particularly good.
- 1:02:49I'll leave, you know, people up to make up their own minds up
- 1:02:53about that. You may go check it out on the
- 1:02:54channel if you want to see something and look out for these
- 1:02:56projects hopefully coming next year.
- 1:02:58Yeah, but it's just it's a lot of fun to be able to kind of sit
- 1:03:02here and like a lot of nights. I'll be sitting there and I just
- 1:03:06maybe I'm having a smoke Rome, just watching something and I'm
- 1:03:09like, practicing the voice and refining it and trying to get to
- 1:03:13a little places. Think like, how would I want to
- 1:03:17voice Sonic? How would I want to waste Shadow
- 1:03:20Tails Knuckles and I'll get it going to be doing their Knuckles
- 1:03:23one soon for the channel. That's not no one's seen me.
- 1:03:26Do Knuckles yet, but I will be doing or knuckles.
- 1:03:29Isis is really nice. You know, I mean, just to kind
- 1:03:31of be able to put my own unique spin on these characters that I
- 1:03:36love so much and just yeah, it's a bit of fun, really, and people
- 1:03:39do seem to be enjoying it on the YouTube shorts from so long as
- 1:03:43people keep watching, imma keep doing it and, you know, we'll
- 1:03:46see how it goes. But, you know, Sega if you are
- 1:03:49watching this You know, and you need someone for a Sonic
- 1:03:53project, I'm your guy. I'm real glad I don't worry
- 1:03:55about it. I've got you a donut, Amy
- 1:03:58Calamity Hatcher. For the next Sonic, the Hedgehog
- 1:04:03voice acting spot I'm calling it.
- 1:04:05Now imagine if that happens, imagine if that Calamity for
- 1:04:08subsonic, imagine that happens. Imagine the voice actor steps
- 1:04:11down and they say Jack, would you like to audition would
- 1:04:16youwould? Can you audition?
- 1:04:18I wonder Sega. Ah, Very good about like
- 1:04:25opportunities within the company.
- 1:04:28So I, you know what, like I think if that did happen,
- 1:04:32obviously, they would probably look at professional voice
- 1:04:35actors first, but I don't think, say, good-b the kind of company
- 1:04:38to throw your CV out the window when you apply to go beyond
- 1:04:41Shinobi brilliant, like as a full circle, you just mad.
- 1:04:45Imagine that story I picked up my Sega Mega Drive controller in
- 1:04:491995. Then let's say 30 years later.
- 1:04:55I am. So, did the head documentaries?
- 1:05:01But well, I am campaigning for so listening to this podcast,
- 1:05:07you know, we're going to move this along with any of the
- 1:05:09hatchlings that are watching right now.
- 1:05:11We're going to form together and create this this Army.
- 1:05:14They're going to get this going, we need a Calamity hatch, a
- 1:05:18cameo in Sonic, the Hedgehog's, the movie 3 because are Shadow
- 1:05:24the Hedgehog Hedgehogs in it as well.
- 1:05:26I need a cameo. Just just as a tiny Cameo 5
- 1:05:29seconds on screen. Never see me again.
- 1:05:32This guy died. Do you know what?
- 1:05:34I honestly think? That's very possible for no.
- 1:05:39But know if you if you look at it from the perspective of like,
- 1:05:45Eva people even there's a section where like Sonic has
- 1:05:50fans or something like that that could work or people, you know
- 1:05:53like okay. I was watching a movie called
- 1:05:57free guy. The other day love that film
- 1:06:00great movie for those who don't know, basically giant video game
- 1:06:05world, it's pretty. I won't spoil it, it's really
- 1:06:07good. But anyway there's a lot of
- 1:06:09people in it. Like a ninja I did not expect to
- 1:06:12see Ninja in a movie But he's obviously, they're streaming,
- 1:06:16you know, talking about what's going on, kind of thing.
- 1:06:19And it's kind of a weird thing when you think about it, but
- 1:06:21also it's not really that weird, you know, streaming and gaming
- 1:06:25is a massive part of culture. Now, it's just us.
- 1:06:28Yeah, it is so. So, and the whole game is about
- 1:06:31video game, video game. So, it makes sense.
- 1:06:33And if we can get a Sanic cameo in the first movie, we could
- 1:06:37definitely get a clammy hands during the third, I think.
- 1:06:40So, like come on fingers crossed.
- 1:06:43Let's make it happen. PPL.
- 1:06:44Tweet of the driver tweet a parallel, right?
- 1:06:48I want to ask you something serious because you've spoken
- 1:06:53about this publicly, and you don't have to answer this, if
- 1:06:56you don't want to go down. So this year, you mentioned that
- 1:07:01you've experienced health problems having real.
- 1:07:04Yeah, that could lead to blindness.
- 1:07:07Now, this kind of freaked me out when I read this, to be honest,
- 1:07:11what can you tell us about? This can be cured or Reversed
- 1:07:17because this is a this is Major especially yeah everything that
- 1:07:20you do. I'm a situation that so it can't
- 1:07:22like, it can't be cured, it can be. postponed to a point where
- 1:07:33like It doesn't actually affect you in your lifetime, but
- 1:07:41there's a lot of conditions go to that, you know, as
- 1:07:45everything, you know, nothing in life is easy.
- 1:07:51So, at the moment, I'm kind of just working on me in that
- 1:07:56regard because it's largely diabetes based.
- 1:08:00So, you know, I worked really Well, have been working hard to
- 1:08:07kind of, keep up Sugar's under control, start eating better or
- 1:08:11that kind of thing, and it gave her AIDS.
- 1:08:13It's not an easy thing to do it. So a lot of people don't kind of
- 1:08:18give it credit, but, you know, it is what it is.
- 1:08:23Yeah. Which we try to get through.
- 1:08:25At the end of the day, I think the biggest change I've made is
- 1:08:29not drinking monster anymore because monster was like, I was
- 1:08:33drinking like four or five months is a Day 1.2 him.
- 1:08:37Do you say 42 grams of sugar? I can.
- 1:08:41Wow, I know, I know and now I drink tea few, which has no
- 1:08:45sugar and that's all I took murdering monster anymore.
- 1:08:48So what actually is in key for what's in the, a lot of fruit
- 1:08:54powder, okay? A lot of caffeine goodness, I'm
- 1:09:00guessing a Sparta mean as the sweetener which we all know
- 1:09:04isn't great. I thought at the end of the day,
- 1:09:08if you're diabetic, that you're drinking as part of me, like
- 1:09:11there's no way around it, whether you're drinking no added
- 1:09:15sugar fruit squash with your drinking diet coke, mmm, Fanta
- 1:09:20Fanta, whatever it is. You're drinking.
- 1:09:22As far as me, okay? It's just the trade up at the
- 1:09:24end of the day, but yeah, so at the moment I'm making an active
- 1:09:29kind of things to make my life better to work on things and
- 1:09:33improve my health. So yeah, it's a battle but it's
- 1:09:38a war but I'm it would appear that.
- 1:09:41I'm starting to turn the tide of battle.
- 1:09:45So yeah, it's a tricky one. One thing that we share as well
- 1:09:50as like you know, they say sometimes like or the strongest
- 1:09:53people don't complain, they just get on with it.
- 1:09:56I always kind of disagree with that because I like you quite
- 1:10:00happily will ran or get annoyed or get upset and and, and wear
- 1:10:05my heart on my sleeve and just say like, oh this is
- 1:10:07frustrating. This pisses me off.
- 1:10:08This isn't you know, Bubba, Bubba, but then I'll do
- 1:10:12something about it. Like I'll still keep working
- 1:10:15hard. Keep trying to change different
- 1:10:18things taking advice, whatever. Like I won't just sit and sit
- 1:10:21and do nothing about it or wine and I feel like that's
- 1:10:24something. We share like you know, you're
- 1:10:27faced with these things. Your Voice search online.
- 1:10:28You'll be like, this is fucked. I don't know what to do, but
- 1:10:31then I see you keep going. You keep trying, you know, it
- 1:10:34doesn't like stop you from doing things.
- 1:10:36It's just your opinion, your frustrations kind of thing.
- 1:10:38Yeah. And like, they take it wrong,
- 1:10:41there's a fine line between, like, you are just making a
- 1:10:44doing nothing about it. Hmm.
- 1:10:46And venting. But it's the way that you
- 1:10:51conduct yourself. Like I will vent about stuff a
- 1:10:54little bit. Okay.
- 1:10:55This fucking sucks but then as soon as I've released that it's
- 1:10:59time to move on and start working on making it better the
- 1:11:03end of the day, like, you see me posted things and, oh, I'm so
- 1:11:07sick of the YouTube copyright system.
- 1:11:10Still going to upload a video the next day.
- 1:11:12Like you you have your right to complain about things in life.
- 1:11:18I really feel like people Well, don't appreciate this enough.
- 1:11:21Like if you're unhappy about something, and it's legitimate,
- 1:11:25then voice, it, fair enough. But you are not going to get the
- 1:11:31Absolution that you want from doing that.
- 1:11:34It's about getting that out of your system.
- 1:11:37And then working on how, you know, you can prove this and I
- 1:11:40do understand, you know, there are some circumstances of people
- 1:11:43room where they can't do anything and, you know, my heart
- 1:11:46goes out to that complete completely empathize with that.
- 1:11:50But everyone's situation is different.
- 1:11:53And it's like, for instance, one of the things that really annoys
- 1:11:57me that you hear quite a lot is, like over there are people like
- 1:12:01starving all over the world and you're complaining about this.
- 1:12:03It's like everyone's problems of relative to them.
- 1:12:08You can't just be like, oh yeah, but this person is suffering
- 1:12:10much more, but of course, you will always find someone in this
- 1:12:13world is suffering more than you, but that doesn't mean your
- 1:12:17problems aren't valid. It doesn't mean that you don't
- 1:12:19have a right to voice that and say, I'm unhappy with what's
- 1:12:23going on in my life right now. But then you just got to try and
- 1:12:25do everything. You can within your power to
- 1:12:28change that and make active improvements.
- 1:12:30And as I said, I am son of the snow always easy and I'm so it's
- 1:12:35not always possible but I guess that's what.
- 1:12:37On the mentality, I've had like me and you are very similar in
- 1:12:40like the work driven mindset. That we have, we are very intent
- 1:12:45on getting where we want to get in life and we just keep working
- 1:12:49and I think yeah then run if it's going to help you get to
- 1:12:55the top as long as you're proactive about it do what you
- 1:12:58need to do. Then the day I get to some
- 1:13:00people have more reserved but unlike you I wear my heart on my
- 1:13:04sleeve, a lot of things. So I'm just like I'll be giving
- 1:13:07I don't give a shit. This is unashamedly me.
- 1:13:12I'm still going to get to where I want to get to.
- 1:13:15So enjoy the ride. I'm not going to sit on social
- 1:13:18media pretend my life is perfect, like everyone wants to
- 1:13:21do, it's just come on, man. That thing really annoys me like
- 1:13:26everyone on the show. This is the perfect life.
- 1:13:28It's like, who buys that who really buys that?
- 1:13:32Like we've all got problems. There's like there's someone we
- 1:13:36used To school with and I'll tell you, I'll tell you off
- 1:13:39camera here it is. So it's a couple.
- 1:13:42They were dating someone from outside our school, and don't
- 1:13:47get me wrong, I'm very happy for them.
- 1:13:50Okay? But they were a bit much when
- 1:13:55they were dating when we were at school, okay?
- 1:13:57Yeah. All these years later exactly
- 1:14:01the same. It feels like every moment of
- 1:14:03their life is an update. Its Like, oh, we went to this
- 1:14:08party. Oh, we went for coffee.
- 1:14:13Oh, we painted the wall. I don't know, like, just
- 1:14:18everything is fucking life update that everyone needs to
- 1:14:22know and it's like, how much time do you actually spend
- 1:14:24living your life? Like you're not a bit.
- 1:14:28Like, don't get me wrong. If you want to share like P.
- 1:14:30We had a baby. I haven't got married yet.
- 1:14:32Awesome. Right.
- 1:14:34But I just don't understand why Everything needs to be an addict
- 1:14:39and update it and I tired of seeing it something.
- 1:14:42I'm very tempted to just like unfollow this person because it
- 1:14:46did it kind of aggravates me it's just like you know you've
- 1:14:51been doing this for the better part of like 50 years man.
- 1:14:55See you at the same time that you kind of go in the oven?
- 1:14:57You a little bit? Like your life is so contempt.
- 1:15:01Like it, you're so in love and happy that this is just see.
- 1:15:05This is what you post. Like, I call BS on that though
- 1:15:08because I feel like, if you genuinely were happy you
- 1:15:11wouldn't feel the need to tell the world about it.
- 1:15:13Over 5 seconds. I kind of get that you'd be too
- 1:15:16busy enjoying your life, you know.
- 1:15:19Yeah, I do kind of get that lucky but was in love like
- 1:15:21genuinely in love with someone. My post that one photo like
- 1:15:27particular place, you know, we just, it's a good moment.
- 1:15:31I want to remember it. But I would probably keep image.
- 1:15:34Like, for instance, I have pictures of me and my
- 1:15:36ex-girlfriend like, quite a few that I didn't post on social
- 1:15:39media. And I still work obviously now,
- 1:15:42but I keep him as memories, you know, for me like and I don't
- 1:15:48know, maybe, maybe Maybe it's just cause I'm more reserved.
- 1:15:52When it comes to private life, I just believe in that.
- 1:15:54But at the same time, I don't know.
- 1:15:57Like, I feel like the more it's kind of like that expression,
- 1:16:01you protest too much. You know what I mean?
- 1:16:04I feel like it's, you know, you who you trying to prove this to,
- 1:16:08you know, you're happy. Yeah.
- 1:16:10Are you trying to prove it to me some random person?
- 1:16:12Like, I don't get it. They, maybe they reject.
- 1:16:15Maybe there are genuinely people that are just sharing everything
- 1:16:17because they want to, okay, fine.
- 1:16:19But I just Don't get that. I do not understand.
- 1:16:22I think they like the way that the reason I can kind of see it
- 1:16:26though that I can, I can appreciate it is, I mean, I
- 1:16:29can't speak for you, but I kind of do the same thing like, you
- 1:16:35know, like I'm posting content to YouTube.
- 1:16:38I might not be in the best state of mind at that point.
- 1:16:40But that's certainly not what you're going to see in that
- 1:16:42content. That's giving a see nurse
- 1:16:44presenting, the best us business.
- 1:16:47That's a product. That's the thing.
- 1:16:49That's different. Yeah, I suppose I suppose I know
- 1:16:52exactly what you mean and you're right, you're right.
- 1:16:54It is kind of okay well yeah you're right, you know the
- 1:16:57character almost isn't it? Not quite because it is you are
- 1:17:05presenting a certain aspect like they're not going to see the
- 1:17:09dode subject like, you know, how me and you would be in real life
- 1:17:12having a beer. It's not what people see on
- 1:17:14screen and it's not, because we're hiding anything, it's just
- 1:17:17it's you know, the real reason for that is it's just not
- 1:17:19interesting, it's not interesting.
- 1:17:21If I would just sit her book, that's not interesting.
- 1:17:27That's that's who wants to sit and watch that or listen to
- 1:17:29that. It's like I'm in pajamas like
- 1:17:3290% of the time if I'm not home but you know, the hatchlings
- 1:17:35don't see that clammy. I've always I'm always like, hey
- 1:17:39guys gonna got my hat on its energy that I'm going to break
- 1:17:42the illusion. You want to give your audience
- 1:17:44energy. That's what it is.
- 1:17:45Yeah, I've got a break this to the hatchlings right now and see
- 1:17:48your viewers as well. This only goes on for videos.
- 1:17:53I don't wear the hat normally but it's been lying to us all
- 1:17:58this time. You know what?
- 1:18:01Yeah, it's because I've come to realize like, so I'm a bit like
- 1:18:04obsessed with taking care of my hair.
- 1:18:06I'll be honest. The like my body routine and I
- 1:18:09really see through the hair. I rarely see you that wearing a
- 1:18:12hat actually, I've missed, I don't know, but it's obviously
- 1:18:16I've ruins my hair man. So I'm like, nope, if I'm going
- 1:18:21down to the shop. So I'm not wearing a hat now,
- 1:18:24for the night, like, in a nightclub, whatever, I will not
- 1:18:26be wearing the hat. I don't really work to work now
- 1:18:29anymore. Hmm.
- 1:18:30Yeah. See where to work.
- 1:18:32Do you wear like just smoke? Casual.
- 1:18:34Yeah, it's just completely casual.
- 1:18:36I swear to God every because the place I work at smart casual as
- 1:18:39well and it's a star B like, I swear it everywhere now is
- 1:18:43smart. Casual, I can't remember the
- 1:18:44last time his part from that business business that in this
- 1:18:47inner-city. I rarely ever see anyone that
- 1:18:48should stand up to the office and is, I think, I think we're
- 1:18:52definitely kind of hitting a generational shift in that
- 1:18:54whereas like obviously you have like your lawyers and your
- 1:18:58Bankers are kind of thing. You expect everyone to To be
- 1:19:00suited and booted, but then like, I think we're a lot of
- 1:19:03these managers are coming through right now is like, why
- 1:19:06would I put someone in essentially?
- 1:19:09What is a uniform when they're going to be much more
- 1:19:12comfortable, working in dinner? Whatever they choose to work it
- 1:19:16because that it does affect productivity.
- 1:19:19Like, if people are, just not comfortable, they're more
- 1:19:21productive. Like obviously there are
- 1:19:22examples, like if you're a UPS driver, for instance, say
- 1:19:26whatever uniforms, right? Or a firefighter or a police.
- 1:19:30Men or an ambulance with the I get that because that's clearly
- 1:19:33identifying what you are to the public, but things like I go and
- 1:19:37sit in an office all day and I don't interact with any one
- 1:19:42company facing do, you know, I mean, why do you need to wear a
- 1:19:45shirt and tie? What I mean, you know, I'm
- 1:19:48speaking for a male perspective, don't even get me started on the
- 1:19:52restrictions on what women have to wear in the, in the office
- 1:19:54workplace. It's absolutely ridiculous.
- 1:19:58And it's just like, What people wear their streets but somewhat,
- 1:20:02some of the things you've seen in offices.
- 1:20:04You oh, I know, you know, I've had some friends that have said
- 1:20:07they there's rules on heels and things that you have to wear
- 1:20:12heels. It's like you have to weigh.
- 1:20:14It has to wear heels. Like so you want to put your
- 1:20:16female workers through excruciating foot pain.
- 1:20:21Wow, 48 Hours 8 to 12 hours a day because they're in an office
- 1:20:25saying that's really selfish because apparently was some of
- 1:20:28the, some of those heels. Depending on the top of Hills,
- 1:20:31you have some of them are known to actually break bones in
- 1:20:34women's feet. Like it's actually a really,
- 1:20:36really bad for your feet. Exactly.
- 1:20:38I'd like I think as well. You have to put a bit of trust
- 1:20:41in your employees, like casual, like, wearing whatever you want
- 1:20:46to work, most people are still going to turn up looking
- 1:20:49presentable. But, you know, it's not like
- 1:20:52everyone's just going to be like, well, it's not like I'm
- 1:20:55going to come into the office in pajamas, your onesie ones, you
- 1:20:59know? I mean like it's just is common
- 1:21:02sense and I think a lot of companies now are starting to
- 1:21:05realize that and they're starting to say, you know what?
- 1:21:07Where were you want? Like I generally always try and
- 1:21:09buy some. It was Sonic on it from in the
- 1:21:11office just because why the hell not, you know, it's asleep.
- 1:21:15I just wrap that was out and I love the thing.
- 1:21:21It's a big statue every day. That's really sweet.
- 1:21:23So something is going to come out and see the video on that
- 1:21:26will come out. See where that's all being used.
- 1:21:28That's all been saved for something.
- 1:21:30Is that is that like okay, all right, well why don't you let us
- 1:21:33give us, put it. It's fun talking about it but
- 1:21:35yeah there is there is a video that's going to be coming out
- 1:21:38probably the 31st of December. Hmm.
- 1:21:42Which I believe at the moment is being just being called 2021 and
- 1:21:46those those images will be shown that because they've only really
- 1:21:50been shown to To my friends on Facebook.
- 1:21:53They have not been shared out really in like, Calamity
- 1:21:56Hatcher, UCI. Social medias.
- 1:21:58I forget like, because I have yours on Facebook, because,
- 1:22:01yeah, and it's I forget that what's public and what isn't and
- 1:22:06I'm like, that's why I asked you about this question earlier, the
- 1:22:08serious one because that's like, did does anyone know that?
- 1:22:11Is that okay to talk about? I don't know.
- 1:22:13Well, the hats things don't know about it but ah okay, right so
- 1:22:17we have it okay, you've spoiled the show you what What I keep if
- 1:22:21you want to keep that in. So I can take that.
- 1:22:23That's I don't mind, it's up to you.
- 1:22:25It's up to you boys, up to you. That's so I'm gonna fuck the
- 1:22:29flow of your editing, no sweat. No.
- 1:22:31I've had situations where I've had to edit stuff out before
- 1:22:35sometimes for legal, because there was so as a couple of had
- 1:22:37on the show Once who spoke about a newspaper that had put them in
- 1:22:42a difficult situation, let's put it that way, and they messaged
- 1:22:46me like a week later saying, hey, yeah, please take that out
- 1:22:49because they're threatening legal action.
- 1:22:51Wow, that's an easy edit that out, and delete it.
- 1:22:54And it's like, damn. So it's yeah.
- 1:22:56And also like, I always want my guests to feel happy and
- 1:22:59comfortable and all that jazz, so that's yeah.
- 1:23:02No. Anyway, speaking of 2021, what
- 1:23:06have you learned from 2021? Do I make myself sound sappy on
- 1:23:14the on? Yes, yes, why the hell no okay,
- 1:23:17yeah I'm gonna take some pure inspiration from the some of the
- 1:23:21Hedgehog franchise as I talk about this.
- 1:23:26No matter how ridiculous something seems no matter how in
- 1:23:33the distance, you know how small something seems in your future.
- 1:23:40Just fucking believe in yourself and go for it. because, you
- 1:23:46know, I if you told me in the beginning of this year and the
- 1:23:50last year that, I'd be in this situation now.
- 1:23:55You're an idiot but I've never believed you for a second.
- 1:23:58And here I am at the end of the day and I'm literally living my
- 1:24:03best life right now. So, Do you know, just just keep
- 1:24:08running, people just grit your teeth and keep on running and
- 1:24:14eventually some good karma, will come around for you or at least
- 1:24:17I hope it will touch word that. Yeah, I, that's the biggest
- 1:24:22thing. I've learned just, it's quite
- 1:24:24funny because one of the things that I find myself saying to
- 1:24:28myself a lot I've really picked up on this.
- 1:24:32Is I give up but I will cut is probably one of my most said
- 1:24:36phrases if I'm just sitting there and I have like a bad
- 1:24:39thought and to my head or whatever, I'd rather give up
- 1:24:43just to myself, just match it to myself.
- 1:24:46And damn, I didn't give up. Even though I kept saying, I
- 1:24:50don't give up, I just didn't give up.
- 1:24:52That was almost like the gang it out of my system and not doing
- 1:24:55it. And now this is, this is what I
- 1:24:57learned about. You actually, from from having
- 1:24:59you as a friend and face, but I suppose, I should Stupid saying
- 1:25:02that like there are no Facebook that we actually know each
- 1:25:04other. We went to Scott high school
- 1:25:06together for years but anyway and 61 got my mind's gone blank
- 1:25:14for a second and just think about high school.
- 1:25:17Now I'm thinking about it says good never ran.
- 1:25:20I'm just thinking about to the day, when, when someone from our
- 1:25:24sixth form had had happened to be on TV and you decided to run
- 1:25:30it. Without them JB JB, JB.
- 1:25:38Yeah, JV, you know, he'd he ghosts me on Instagram actually
- 1:25:42offered to have him on my show and he just goes to me.
- 1:25:45He saw the message as in, he saw the message and didn't respond,
- 1:25:50and who is the worst kind of go? I would actually prefer, they
- 1:25:52just never saw it. If they see the message and
- 1:25:54ignore you, that's like AA also. And there was a girl, I won't
- 1:25:58say who who we went to school with who's now a very good?
- 1:26:01Singer. Apparently, she.
- 1:26:03Okay. See also saw my message, didn't
- 1:26:06respond. I'll tell you who they are off
- 1:26:08camera and I'm just like, wow, man.
- 1:26:12But we literally went to school together, like, you know, and
- 1:26:16okay, maybe for some people that doesn't mean shit, but I don't
- 1:26:18know. I think when you spend a lot of
- 1:26:19time with people in any capacity, it means something,
- 1:26:22you know. Yeah, yeah, sure.
- 1:26:25But yeah. Damn.
- 1:26:27Anyway. What yield goes for 2022.
- 1:26:34I, Haven't thought that far ahead.
- 1:26:41That's so weird in a month. Yeah, literally.
- 1:26:46It's just I'm still kind of Blown Away by everything that's
- 1:26:51that's happening at the moment and I'm still processing that
- 1:26:55day by day and I don't know where that's going to take me.
- 1:27:01I know next year will be a very big year for me in terms of
- 1:27:06content. Because we have something maybe
- 1:27:10to Sonic Prime on Netflix, Sonic Origins.
- 1:27:17Something Frontiers it's going to be a busy year in terms of
- 1:27:20content for me I'm going to have games and TV shows to cover.
- 1:27:23It's going to be awesome and I'm hoping that my career would say
- 1:27:30God will continue to develop as well as my relationship with
- 1:27:34them as a YouTuber, which is Growing in tandem with with
- 1:27:39working for them today ever. So kind of sauce you do they
- 1:27:44ever say anything about that? Do they know that you do this
- 1:27:46stuff? Yeah, so a lot of people in the
- 1:27:49company of come out here. So I loved your video.
- 1:27:52I saw your video about well it's a great.
- 1:27:54How much you enjoyed it. I really enjoyed it and the
- 1:27:57licensing. The guy that runs the licensing
- 1:28:00side of things, I'll show you quickly now.
- 1:28:02I see. So he gave me this the other
- 1:28:04day. I saw he was looking at some
- 1:28:07some merch. IDK, gave me this beautiful
- 1:28:10statue. Oh my God, that's so cool.
- 1:28:13Is this is the 30th Anniversary statue squares like 70 quid.
- 1:28:17He just gave it to me as well as the fact is anniversary mug, a
- 1:28:21brand new Sonic water bottles. That hasn't been released yet.
- 1:28:25I'm the first person in the UK to have one coul could be
- 1:28:29opening that one, but I'm not open it but showing it off in a
- 1:28:32video at some point of the next week.
- 1:28:34So my relationship is Flushing them.
- 1:28:37I was able to talk to them about things that I know that the
- 1:28:40community are really crying out for, in terms of merchandise and
- 1:28:43stuff like that. And I just hope to be able to
- 1:28:46continue developing that particularly as I become more
- 1:28:51adapted to, you know, the IT solutions Our Savior and how I
- 1:28:55can improve things for people through my tech support.
- 1:28:59I just really looking forward to exploring that opportunity as
- 1:29:03much as I can and still providing, you know, quality
- 1:29:07Sonic. Except for everyone, and it's so
- 1:29:10funny. Now that since I started working
- 1:29:13at Sega, what I consider the big boys in the Sonic YouTube seen,
- 1:29:19you know, you're 50 to 100K, subscribers range are all very
- 1:29:24aware of who I am now, and challenge me and stuff like
- 1:29:28that. And so, I just want to continue
- 1:29:31my standing as a Sonic Juba, improve my standing, as a
- 1:29:35general note, Uber And give me keep going with, with the
- 1:29:41streams in the, Smash Bros content.
- 1:29:43I feel like after all this time, I finally hit, like my god mode
- 1:29:49and smash a long time. He's no good ego at all.
- 1:29:54He's a colleague. I know.
- 1:29:55But it seems, I got an early smashes like that's it.
- 1:29:58I haven't you go now then but yeah.
- 1:30:01So I want to continue with the Smash Bros.
- 1:30:03I want to keep improving as a player and I you will be Seeing
- 1:30:09Calamity videos. Next year of me at local
- 1:30:13tournaments, I fully intend. So we can go and try and win
- 1:30:18some tournaments. Now, whether I'll ever get to a
- 1:30:21regional national International setting, probably not.
- 1:30:25But the best way to find out is to subscribe.
- 1:30:26So, you know, I love that. I love that.
- 1:30:30Yes, it's so ingrained in me, I love that.
- 1:30:34Yeah, go and subscribe, Calamity Hatcher on YouTube, you won't
- 1:30:37regret it. And go subscribe to this guy
- 1:30:40outside. This guys have already.
- 1:30:42He's thank you. As we draw things to a close
- 1:30:47when you've already mentioned, a few things.
- 1:30:48But yeah. Do you have any upcoming
- 1:30:49projects, or maybe some fun or thoughts that you'd like to
- 1:30:51leave our listeners with? So I was provided with something
- 1:30:56else from Sega, that is very, very cool.
- 1:31:02Christmassy themes is opened over 24 days.
- 1:31:07It's currently the 12th of December.
- 1:31:09So this this is being recorded every day and there will be a

- 1:31:27I'm just going to pull that, right?
- 1:31:28Okay. So stay tuned for that.
- 1:31:32As I said I've got this video coming out on probably the
- 1:31:34safest December as well. I'm planning on it being quite
- 1:31:38like a big video. It's going to be talking a lot
- 1:31:42about what has happened this year and the position I'm now in
- 1:31:45and it's going to be quite. I feel I'm trying to take that
- 1:31:50core of the Sonic franchise that heartfelt, emotional.
- 1:31:53We can do anything with our friends.
- 1:31:55Like power Piggies this video and it's become a really
- 1:32:00awesome. There's some really cool

- 1:32:28trophies but I can send you some Sonic stickers so, you know,
- 1:32:31they'll be getting out the figure so definitely worth
- 1:32:33watching and I guess, you know, I'm hopefully going to be going

- 1:33:22So I'm sure you can imagine what that might entail.
- 1:33:26I've been very lucky to chat to Roger Craig Smith, the voice of
- 1:33:29Sonic before so You know, there's a couple of the voice
- 1:33:33actors in there. There's some people that have
- 1:33:35contributed, a lot of music to this franchise that people love.
