- 0:14Speaker 2: Welcome back to the Spiritual Shit Show, where we unravel the tangled threads of the human experience and remember that even the mess holds the magic.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Today's episode is an invitation into something sacred, and it's something that I'm personally working through right now, something most of us spend years, even lifetimes, avoiding, but not today.
- 0:36Speaker 2: Today we're talking about your story, the one that shaped you into who you are today, the one you might still be trying to run from, the one that, when witnessed with love, has the power to alchemize shame into self-love and fragmentation into wholeness.
- 0:55Speaker 2: Let's begin here.
- 0:56Speaker 2: If you've ever sat across from a therapist, a healer, a guide, they likely started with a single question Tell me about your childhood.
- 1:07Speaker 2: And that one question.
- 1:09Speaker 2: It cracks the door open to a lifetime of impressions, of inherited beliefs, conditioned behaviors, hidden griefs and moments of unspeakable tenderness.
- 1:22Speaker 2: We don't ask about childhood to dwell in the past.
- 1:25Speaker 2: We ask because the past never really leaves.
- 1:29Speaker 2: It lives in our nervous system, in our relationships, in the way that we flinch or overgive or stay small to feel safe.
- 1:39Speaker 2: The neuroscience is clear the brain forms its core beliefs based on repetition and emotional intensity, especially in childhood.
- 1:48Speaker 2: By age seven, most of our subconscious programming is set the messages we received, spoken or silent, become the architecture of our inner world and unless we become conscious of them, those old stories quietly shape everything how we love, how we tolerate, what we dream and what we don't dream.
- 2:13Speaker 2: But here's what's often missed you are not your story, but the story holds the key to who you are becoming.
- 2:24Speaker 2: The story holds the key to who you are becoming, and I'll say that again because I need to hear that for myself.
- 2:31Speaker 2: Like I said, I am doing this work for myself currently.
- 2:32Speaker 2: You are not your story, but your story holds the key to who you are becoming.
- 2:42Speaker 2: And that's where the shame comes in, coming.
- 2:48Speaker 2: And that's where the shame comes in.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Shame says don't look there.
- 2:50Speaker 2: Shame says it wasn't that bad, or worse, it was that bad and you're still not over it.
- 2:54Speaker 2: Shame silences us, it fractures us from the truth of our experience.
- 3:01Speaker 2: But shame can't survive the light of awareness.
- 3:05Speaker 2: Shame can't survive the light of awareness.
- 3:11Speaker 2: It dissolves when met with curiosity, compassion and presence.
- 3:20Speaker 2: So what if you sat with your story, not to fix it but to witness it?
- 3:24Speaker 2: So what if you sat with your story, not to fix it but to witness it, to turn it gently in your hands and say look what I survived, look how I adapted, look at who I had to become to make it here.
- 3:44Speaker 2: And this is the power of reframing.
- 3:44Speaker 2: Reframing isn't spiritual bypassing, it's not slapping gratitude onto trauma, it's the sacred act of reclaiming.
- 3:54Speaker 2: It's saying maybe the moment I thought broke me actually revealed my strength.
- 4:01Speaker 2: It's realizing the girl who stopped speaking up was actually protecting her voice and the boy who shut down was practicing spiritual insulation and the teenager who lashed out was fighting to feel real in a world that didn't see her.
- 4:19Speaker 2: And when you start to view your life through this lens of tenderness and truth, something shifts.
- 4:27Speaker 2: You don't just heal, you remember, you regather the parts of yourself that got lost in the survival or the trauma, and then you offer them a seat at the table of your becoming.
- 4:43Speaker 2: This work is not just for you, it ripples outward, downward in all ways, because unhealed stories unfortunately just don't stay quiet.
- 4:52Speaker 2: They get passed down.
- 4:54Speaker 2: I see it in my friends, in their parenting, in their inherited wounds dressed up as expectations, silence, or that's just how I am, or that's just how they are.
- 5:07Speaker 2: I can see it when the work of healing isn't done and you can see it in their kids of how they feel about themselves.
- 5:16Speaker 2: We don't mean to pass it on, but we do.
- 5:19Speaker 2: And we're not going to be perfect in who we are, but I do so much of my work because I want to pass the least amount on to my daughter, because unless we choose to pause the pattern, the pattern will continue, and that, my love, is the soul of this work.
- 5:40Speaker 2: It is not to relive the past, but to break its unconscious hold.
- 5:47Speaker 2: If you're ready to begin or, in my case, begin again, here are five invitations to start reconnecting with your story.
- 5:56Speaker 2: Number one is let your memory speak.
- 5:59Speaker 2: Set a timer for five minutes and write.
- 6:01Speaker 2: No filter, no editing.
- 6:03Speaker 2: Let the story come through.
- 6:05Speaker 2: Number two is get curious about your beliefs.
- 6:08Speaker 2: What do you believe about being worthy, lovable, safe, and whose voice is that?
- 6:17Speaker 2: Number three trace the pattern.
- 6:19Speaker 2: Notice the loops in your life repeated relationships, self-sabotage, roles you play.
- 6:26Speaker 2: These are all portals towards awareness.
- 6:30Speaker 2: Number four is reparent your inner child, connect with this version of you and let them guide you and or ask them what do you need, what did you need and how can I offer that to you now and then?
- 6:50Speaker 2: The fifth one is allow someone to witness you a friend, a therapist, a guide.
- 6:55Speaker 2: Our stories heal faster when they are witnessed and held with love.
- 7:00Speaker 2: And if this feels okay, I'd love to guide you through a short grounding practice.
- 7:04Speaker 2: It's just a simple way to begin practicing how to land in your body to generate safety so that you can begin this process.
- 7:15Speaker 2: So, if you're not driving, obviously, just close down the eyes, take a few deep breaths, inhaling through your nose and then exhaling through the mouth.
- 7:35Speaker 2: Bring an awareness to your body, allowing an invitation of surrender.
- 7:49Speaker 2: I allow myself to surrender to the weight of my body.
- 7:53Speaker 2: I allow myself to feel my seat, making contact with what's underneath me.
- 8:15Speaker 2: I allow myself to feel the gravitational pull towards earth and then really allowing yourself to be supported and anchored through gravity, notice any sensations in your body and anchoring deeper into wisdom, into truth, into safety, and then, in your mind's eye, just see if you can bring the brightest version of yourself in front of you.
- 9:19Speaker 2: And so you're sitting there noticing the reflection of you and then, with a lot of compassion and curiosity, just notice what you notice who sits before you, and you can lovingly place your hands on your heart as you honestly witness and see who is in front of you.
- 10:25Speaker 2: And then, if there's parts that can be held, maybe you notice this person in front of you holds a lot of sadness or holds a lot of grief.
- 10:42Speaker 2: Just hold that, just hold that.
- 10:52Speaker 2: And then you can ask if, just for a moment, can we remove the sadness and can we remove the grief or can we remove the fear.
- 11:05Speaker 2: And if this version of you says yes, just remove it, just safely, just put it on the table or on the altar and then return to noticing Now.
- 11:26Speaker 2: Who do you see to noticing Now?
- 11:37Speaker 2: Who do you see?
- 11:38Speaker 2: Wow, I see somebody who's so courageous.
- 11:41Speaker 2: I see somebody who's so strong.
- 11:43Speaker 2: I see somebody who's so creative.
- 11:44Speaker 2: I see somebody who has an incredible capacity for love.
- 11:47Speaker 2: I see somebody who loves freedom.
- 11:55Speaker 2: What do you see?
- 12:05Speaker 2: And as you continue to witness this version of yourself, who isn't holding on to the pain, the grief, the sadness, the struggle, but you really see them for the truth of who they are, just notice if there's a light that emerges.
- 12:25Speaker 2: Notice if there's a light that emerges.
- 12:30Speaker 2: You can see them in a radiant light.
- 12:42Speaker 2: And as this version of you continues to lighten up, notice how their face looks.
- 12:50Speaker 2: And then they begin walking towards you and you feel the power of their light body, the heat of who they are, the heat of love, radiance, truth.
- 13:04Speaker 2: You feel it on your skin.
- 13:08Speaker 2: As they get closer and closer, you feel that light and truth and wisdom begin to merge into your being.
- 13:25Speaker 2: You are being.
- 13:32Speaker 2: You remember who you are and then bring an awareness now to the sensation of the body, as you are filled with the light, truth and unconditional love of who you are.
- 13:51Speaker 2: Wow, I am so courageous, I am so creative, I am so curious.
- 14:02Speaker 2: I am so.
- 14:05Speaker 2: And allow yourself to really feel that the truth of who you are.
- 14:11Speaker 2: And maintaining this state of conscious awareness, noticing if there's a color or a tone or a frequency that you can feel in the body, holding that sensation as you also return awareness to gravity what does this feel like?
- 15:07Speaker 2: Or the gravity to be anchoring me down, allowing loving awareness to be brought back into the space we're not fully back yet Just noticing the light that's around us.
- 15:41Speaker 2: Just noticing the light that's around us.
- 15:46Speaker 2: And where do we want to expand our light?
- 15:48Speaker 2: Where it safely is, nourishing us for the rest of the day In this conscious remembrance of who we really are.
- 15:58Speaker 2: And then, as you consciously choose to establish that frequency, that energy bubble, take a couple deep breaths.
- 16:14Speaker 2: You can wiggle and then place your hands just to make contact with who I am now, where I am now, consciously claiming I allow myself to live in truth and remembrance of who I am, the light of who I am, the light of who I am.
- 16:49Speaker 2: And then take a couple deep breaths and I will leave you here Until next time.
- 16:59Speaker 2: All my love.
