- 0:51Speaker 3: Dr.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Trudy Simmons on with us today.
- 0:54Speaker 4: Hi.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Hi.
- 0:55Speaker 2: Good to see you.
- 0:57Speaker 4: Good to see you, Pastor Chuck.
- 0:59Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure. Episode 20 today is Suicide Awareness Month,
- 1:04Speaker 2: so we thought we should and could talk about that.
- 1:08Speaker 2: And for those listening to podcasts later, you can go
- 1:12Speaker 2: to trudysimmons.com. That will get you to her website. And
- 1:18Speaker 2: she also hosts the Christian View, 270 episodes or plus
- 1:20Speaker 2: or more. Yeah, now we do the Zoom and all that.
- 1:30Speaker 2: There's just a lot going on, a lot to talk about.
- 1:33Speaker 2: But for the benefit of our viewers, tell us a
- 1:36Speaker 2: little bit about you.
- 1:37Speaker 4: Yeah. I live in Atlanta, and it's really hot here today.
- 1:41Speaker 4: I have been married 30 years this coming August. I mean, April. Okay,
- 1:51Speaker 4: I can talk. Let's start over. I live in Atlanta,
- 1:53Speaker 4: and it's hot. And I've been married almost 30 years
- 1:56Speaker 4: this April. I have a 20 year old son and
- 2:00Speaker 4: a 10 year old daughter. I have a counseling and
- 2:03Speaker 4: coaching practice here in Atlanta. And I did the Christian
- 2:07Speaker 4: view for 10 years, 10, 10 seasons. And I'm an
- 2:13Speaker 4: avid athlete. I trained for Ironmans and endurance races and
- 2:18Speaker 4: happy to be alive and fit and love Jesus. Yeah.
- 2:23Speaker 2: And you do counseling, right? So coaching. Yeah, that's good.
- 2:29Speaker 2: Holy Spirit's a good coach too, but he uses people.
- 2:33Speaker 2: He speaks through, works through people. I always, I know
- 2:37Speaker 2: we know a lot about Bluetooth technology now, and I
- 2:39Speaker 2: always ask God to pair with some vocal cords around
- 2:43Speaker 2: me to put some words in the air that I
- 2:45Speaker 2: might need to hear. Yeah. And that kind of ties
- 2:48Speaker 2: into suicide awareness because we know the devil has a
- 2:52Speaker 2: voice and and tries to whisper in our ear or
- 2:56Speaker 2: attempt in lots of different ways. John 10, 10, right?
- 3:00Speaker 2: The enemy came to steal, kill, and destroy. Jesus came
- 3:03Speaker 2: to give life, life abundantly. Your thoughts on some of that?
- 3:06Speaker 4: Yeah, no, I mean, honestly, that is my favorite, my
- 3:09Speaker 4: favorite scripture, John 10, 10, because the enemy does come
- 3:12Speaker 4: to steal, kill, and destroy, but it says, I, Christ,
- 3:15Speaker 4: have come. Part of that is having that sound mind
- 3:21Speaker 4: that we are, that, has to have because we have
- 3:25Speaker 4: the mind of Christ, but the enemy wants to come
- 3:27Speaker 4: in and wreak havoc in our minds, you know, through unforgiveness,
- 3:31Speaker 4: through bitterness, through trauma, you know, through abuse and learning
- 3:36Speaker 4: how to take those thoughts captive to the obedience of
- 3:39Speaker 4: Christ and understanding that he has given us everything we
- 3:43Speaker 4: need for this life, you know, to be prosperous. And
- 3:47Speaker 4: we talk about prosperous. It's not about, I'm not talking
- 3:50Speaker 4: about your bank account. I'm talking about what's going on
- 3:53Speaker 4: in your heart, your mind, your soul, and your body.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure. And it all works together, body, soul,
- 4:00Speaker 2: and spirit. We say we have a triune God, the Father,
- 4:03Speaker 2: the Son, the Holy Spirit, and there's me, myself, and I,
- 4:07Speaker 2: which is the unholy trinity. And it's all about me, right?
- 4:14Speaker 2: So yeah, at the end of the day, we need
- 4:18Speaker 2: to listen and hear God's voice. I do want to
- 4:21Speaker 2: share one scripture. And again, this is a difference between
- 4:23Speaker 2: Christianity and I want to encourage people again, check out, uh, trudysimmons.com. Just, uh,
- 4:29Speaker 2: a lot of great, a lot of great interviews and
- 4:32Speaker 2: panel discussions as well as some one-on-ones. Um, and of
- 4:36Speaker 2: course we can invite, uh, Trudy to speak at your church,
- 4:40Speaker 2: your women's conference. Um, so there's a way to do counseling, coaching,
- 4:45Speaker 2: and also get to the Christian view and see some
- 4:48Speaker 2: of the, episodes there as well. There's just a lot
- 4:51Speaker 2: going on. But in Romans 8, the whole book of
- 4:56Speaker 2: Romans is amazing. I would just say it was written
- 4:59Speaker 2: a little over 20 years after the conversion of Saul
- 5:04Speaker 2: at 35 AD. So it was written, they say, about
- 5:09Speaker 2: maybe 56 AD during his third missionary trip. So he
- 5:15Speaker 2: kind of gives us a mature overall view of what
- 5:18Speaker 2: the gospel is. But in chapter eight, there's so many
- 5:21Speaker 2: great verses. The first one, there's no condemnation for those
- 5:27Speaker 2: who are in Christ Jesus. And we're going to talk
- 5:30Speaker 2: about that a lot. Christ in you, the hope of glory.
- 5:34Speaker 2: If you're in Jesus and he's in you, you should
- 5:37Speaker 2: have the Holy Spirit in you. There's no condemnation. That's
- 5:40Speaker 2: really strong. That's like hell talk. Condemnation is hell and
- 5:44Speaker 2: condemnation versus conviction and guilt. maybe even struggle with shame,
- 5:49Speaker 2: which could cause someone to want to end their life.
- 5:51Speaker 2: So let's start there. Um, some thoughts there and we'll
- 5:54Speaker 2: kind of work through Romans eight a little bit.
- 5:56Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 5:56Speaker 4: Well, I think you mentioned shame. I mean, the difference
- 5:59Speaker 4: between shame and guilt, right? Shame is I am bad
- 6:03Speaker 4: or I am wrong. Guilt is I did something bad
- 6:06Speaker 4: or I, um, or some, you know, I did something bad.
- 6:09Speaker 4: So when you, when you're walking in shame and I
- 6:11Speaker 4: even think condemnation, it's a direct attack on your identity. Um,
- 6:16Speaker 4: and who you are. And so that in and of
- 6:19Speaker 4: itself will weigh you down so much, which can, yeah,
- 6:23Speaker 4: lead to suicidal thoughts, suicide attempts, because you're walking around
- 6:28Speaker 4: feeling that you are a, you are bad. And that
- 6:31Speaker 4: feeling of that, of feeling bad will weigh anybody down.
- 6:35Speaker 4: I He will gently correct us. He will have that
- 6:43Speaker 4: conviction in our heart, but He's not going to condemn us.
- 6:45Speaker 4: He's not going to shame us. He's going to try
- 6:49Speaker 4: to encourage us to walk in that freedom that He
- 6:52Speaker 4: has given us from the cross.
- 6:55Speaker 2: Yeah, that's good. That's good. And as we go through
- 7:00Speaker 2: this chapter, it continues to say that if we don't
- 7:05Speaker 2: walk according to the flesh... but according to the spirit.
- 7:09Speaker 2: And some will stop there and say, well, if you
- 7:11Speaker 2: do something fleshly, you're walking according to the flesh, but
- 7:13Speaker 2: according to the spirit. And you got to keep reading.
- 7:16Speaker 2: Anytime you take one verse and take the word text
- 7:20Speaker 2: out of context, you're left with con. So keep reading
- 7:23Speaker 2: verses before and after, right? So for we, he goes
- 7:27Speaker 2: on to say in verse nine, but you are not
- 7:32Speaker 2: in the flesh, but in the spirit, if indeed, the
- 7:35Speaker 2: Spirit of God dwells in you. So this is the
- 7:39Speaker 2: difference of Christianity, the Holy Spirit in you. So you're
- 7:43Speaker 2: not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if the
- 7:46Speaker 2: Spirit dwells in you. Now, if anyone does not have
- 7:48Speaker 2: the Spirit of Christ, he's not his. And if Christ
- 7:51Speaker 2: is in you, the body is dead because of sin,
- 7:53Speaker 2: but the Spirit is light because of righteousness. Verse 11,
- 7:57Speaker 2: but if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from
- 8:00Speaker 2: the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ from
- 8:03Speaker 2: the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies
- 8:06Speaker 2: through His Spirit who dwells in you. So this dwells
- 8:10Speaker 2: in you is like three times. So let's just set
- 8:13Speaker 2: the record straight. If somebody listening to us right now
- 8:15Speaker 2: is struggling with suicide, ask Holy Spirit to come in.
- 8:19Speaker 2: Come in my heart. Come in my mind. Come in
- 8:21Speaker 2: my body. I want to be a temple of the
- 8:25Speaker 2: Holy Spirit. Live in me. This is the one distinction
- 8:28Speaker 2: between Christianity and every religion in the world is that
- 8:31Speaker 2: the Holy Spirit of the creator God wants to live
- 8:34Speaker 2: in you. Take it from there. Yeah.
- 8:36Speaker 4: And I mean, with the Holy Spirit living in us
- 8:39Speaker 4: and working through us, we can walk through even the
- 8:42Speaker 4: most difficult, darkest hours. And so for those who may
- 8:45Speaker 4: be contemplating suicide and they may even say, well, I am,
- 8:48Speaker 4: I feel like I am a believer. You know, I
- 8:52Speaker 4: want you to call out to Jesus even more and
- 8:54Speaker 4: just say, you know, I need you like never before
- 8:57Speaker 4: because we can't do life on our own strength, Pastor Chuck.
- 9:00Speaker 4: We all need the power of the Holy Spirit working
- 9:03Speaker 4: in and through us. And for those who may be
- 9:06Speaker 4: thinking about suicide, tomorrow is always a better day. Put
- 9:09Speaker 4: your hope in Jesus, not in your circumstances, not in
- 9:13Speaker 4: what's happening today, but in Jesus Christ and tomorrow will
- 9:17Speaker 4: be a better day. Yeah.
- 9:19Speaker 2: On your show, um, There was a little thing I
- 9:23Speaker 2: tried to show before it went away, but it was
- 9:25Speaker 2: miracles just ahead. It was like a little road sign.
- 9:30Speaker 2: You showed on one of your episodes. And you know what?
- 9:33Speaker 2: You are really potentially just a moment away from a miracle.
- 9:37Speaker 2: And a miracle is obviously defined with, you know, God
- 9:40Speaker 2: did it. It's like naturally it's supernatural, usually a miracle
- 9:45Speaker 2: outside of the normal laws of physics. So the textbook
- 9:50Speaker 2: definition of miracle, God showing up, And I've heard someone say,
- 9:53Speaker 2: and it really helped me, even when I was miserable
- 9:55Speaker 2: or going through a tough spot, I've heard someone say, hey,
- 9:58Speaker 2: when you're down to nothing, God is up to something.
- 10:01Speaker 4: Amen.
- 10:01Speaker 2: That just started breeding faith in my spirit. Like, you
- 10:04Speaker 2: know what? I am down to nothing. I feel like
- 10:06Speaker 2: I'm at my wit's end, but maybe God is up
- 10:09Speaker 2: to something and he's going to break through any minute.
- 10:11Speaker 2: Your thoughts on that?
- 10:13Speaker 4: No, because he always shows up. He always shows up.
- 10:16Speaker 4: You know, They say that if you don't feel God's presence,
- 10:18Speaker 4: it's because we've walked away, not not him leaving. And so,
- 10:22Speaker 4: you know, let's just say that you are a believer
- 10:25Speaker 4: and you're struggling with suicide. Maybe you have a sin
- 10:27Speaker 4: in your life that you haven't been able to overcome yet.
- 10:30Speaker 4: You know, the enemy would want you to say, well,
- 10:33Speaker 4: I need to walk away from God because Christianity is
- 10:35Speaker 4: not working for me or I just got to I
- 10:38Speaker 4: can't stand this life anymore. So, you know, I'm going
- 10:40Speaker 4: to take the next step, which is suicide. you know,
- 10:43Speaker 4: we've got to make sure that we aren't relying on
- 10:45Speaker 4: our own strength. We are relying on the power of
- 10:47Speaker 4: the Holy Spirit and we can overcome sin. But the
- 10:50Speaker 4: enemy wants you to feel stuck in whatever situation you
- 10:54Speaker 4: are in that looks dark. But God can come and
- 10:57Speaker 4: work even in the 11th hour. I think that miracle
- 11:00Speaker 4: was with, oh, she's a pastor and I can't remember
- 11:03Speaker 4: her name, but she had been walking through a lot
- 11:07Speaker 4: of different issues. And she was like, I just need
- 11:09Speaker 4: God to show up. I just need him to show up.
- 11:11Speaker 4: And she just cried out And, you know, and sometimes he's,
- 11:15Speaker 4: you know, he'll show up in so many different ways
- 11:18Speaker 4: through a phone call, through a verse, through something on
- 11:22Speaker 4: TV or now social media. But God will always show
- 11:25Speaker 4: up when we cry out to him.
- 11:27Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 11:27Speaker 2: Amen. That's so true. And for those that may not
- 11:31Speaker 2: have noticed, I just put a QR code on the
- 11:33Speaker 2: top left corner. That'll bring you right to Trudy's website, TrudySimmons.com. Dr.
- 11:40Speaker 2: Trudy Simmons.com. Don't put that in the website though, but
- 11:43Speaker 2: she's earned it. She deserves it. And I appreciate your
- 11:47Speaker 2: insights because after the fact, suicide awareness is just one
- 11:51Speaker 2: of those things. We were thinking about the title and
- 11:54Speaker 2: I was thinking understanding suicide. I'm like, nobody can understand it.
- 11:57Speaker 2: It doesn't make sense. Your whole life, you're scared of
- 11:59Speaker 2: the boogeyman. You know, you're looking both ways before you
- 12:02Speaker 2: cross the street. Stranger, stranger, danger, danger, you know, and
- 12:05Speaker 2: we're trying to stay alive. And now all of a
- 12:07Speaker 2: sudden you're your worst enemy. It's you and you're you
- 12:10Speaker 2: by yourself and you're in bad company. And you're the
- 12:12Speaker 2: one that might take your own life. Nobody can wrap
- 12:16Speaker 2: their head around this, which tells me it's demonic. It's demonic, demonic,
- 12:22Speaker 2: which we may want to jump to Ephesians 6. But
- 12:26Speaker 2: while I'm going there, you want to add some thoughts
- 12:28Speaker 2: to that?
- 12:29Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, again, it goes back to, you know,
- 12:32Speaker 4: the enemy wants you to feel like there's no hope.
- 12:34Speaker 4: He wants you to feel like you're a failure. that
- 12:36Speaker 4: things are never going to change. I mean, I've sat
- 12:38Speaker 4: next to people in the counseling office and they're like,
- 12:41Speaker 4: is it ever going to get better? You know, is
- 12:43Speaker 4: it ever going to change? And the answer is yes,
- 12:47Speaker 4: it is going to change. So God has given us tools.
- 12:51Speaker 4: He's given us guidelines on how to walk in freedom.
- 12:56Speaker 4: A lot of times though, Pastor Chuck, we stay stuck with,
- 12:59Speaker 4: because we're so used to the familiar. It feels better
- 13:02Speaker 4: to feel this way than to allow myself to get
- 13:06Speaker 4: excited or to feel hopeful again or to dream again.
- 13:10Speaker 4: It feels more common to stay in that state of
- 13:14Speaker 4: depression or guilt or condemnation instead of allowing yourself to
- 13:20Speaker 4: rise above that. I heard someone say we all have
- 13:22Speaker 4: an emotional home, and that's where we always go back to.
- 13:27Speaker 4: If you're prone to negativity, if you're prone to complaining,
- 13:33Speaker 4: or even if you're prone to more of a depression state.
- 13:38Speaker 4: That's your home state. But you know what? We can
- 13:41Speaker 4: change homes, right? Just like in the natural, we move homes.
- 13:45Speaker 4: We can change that by the renewing of our mind
- 13:48Speaker 4: on God's word and trying to find, you know, we
- 13:51Speaker 4: can find one thing to be thankful for. We can
- 13:53Speaker 4: find one thing to be hopeful for. We can find
- 13:55Speaker 4: one thing to be grateful for and find that and
- 13:58Speaker 4: focus on that because the enemy, again, wants you to
- 14:02Speaker 4: stay focused on on the negativity and the circumstance of
- 14:05Speaker 4: the situation that you're in.
- 14:07Speaker 2: Amen. That's true. Let's unpack Ephesians 6. Finally, my brethren,
- 14:14Speaker 2: and it's a letter to the church in Ephesus, chapter 6. Finally,
- 14:17Speaker 2: my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the
- 14:20Speaker 2: power of his might. So we need to access that
- 14:23Speaker 2: power of the spirit that dwells in us that Paul
- 14:25Speaker 2: was talking in the book of Romans. Put on the
- 14:28Speaker 2: whole armor of God. And I want you to see
- 14:30Speaker 2: something that you may be able to stand Against the
- 14:33Speaker 2: wiles of the devil. Right? And it goes on, and
- 14:38Speaker 2: I'm just going to pop through it. For we do
- 14:41Speaker 2: not wrestle against flesh and blood. So imagine you're wrestling.
- 14:46Speaker 2: But against principalities, against powers, against rulers of darkness of
- 14:51Speaker 2: this age. Against spiritual hosts of wickedness. It's what we
- 14:55Speaker 2: call demonology. In heavenly places. That's who we're wrestling with.
- 15:00Speaker 2: And he goes, therefore, take up the whole armor of
- 15:03Speaker 2: God that you may be able to withstand in the
- 15:06Speaker 2: evil day, having done all to stand. And then verse 14, stand, therefore,
- 15:12Speaker 2: and he starts going through. So that word stand pops
- 15:15Speaker 2: out almost four times. In the middle of 11, be
- 15:20Speaker 2: able to stand against the wiles of the devil. Take
- 15:24Speaker 2: up the whole that you may be able to withstand
- 15:25Speaker 2: in the evil day, having done all to stand. Stand, therefore.
- 15:29Speaker 2: Do you think he's trying to drive a point home here?
- 15:31Speaker 2: Sometimes the best thing you can do is just stand.
- 15:33Speaker 3: Right.
- 15:34Speaker 4: Absolutely. I think so. I mean, God in his goodness
- 15:38Speaker 4: knew that we have an enemy and that enemy was
- 15:42Speaker 4: going to try to take us out. And the thing is,
- 15:45Speaker 4: Pastor Chuck, we can be Christians and be unfruitful and
- 15:50Speaker 4: we can stay stuck, right? And if we do that
- 15:54Speaker 4: this side of heaven, then the enemy's won. But God
- 15:56Speaker 4: has given us like that, like Ephesians says, every tool
- 16:00Speaker 4: to stand against. But I think we have to recognize
- 16:03Speaker 4: that it is the enemy. It's not your situation. It's
- 16:05Speaker 4: not your spouse. It's not your kids. It's not your job.
- 16:08Speaker 4: It's the enemy that is coming against you. And if
- 16:11Speaker 4: we understand who's coming against us, we really will understand
- 16:15Speaker 4: how to fight the right way. I can't hear you.
- 16:31Speaker 2: So yeah, mental health matters. You know, it's a spinoff on, um,
- 16:37Speaker 2: blue lives matter. Black lives matter. All lives matter to
- 16:41Speaker 2: God because he made everything. But what we think about
- 16:44Speaker 2: really matters. And that's why we say, renew your mind,
- 16:48Speaker 2: renew your life. And, uh, that, you know, just to
- 16:52Speaker 2: kind of jump over to a couple other verses, um,
- 16:57Speaker 2: In Philippians, and we'll probably talk about this on every
- 17:01Speaker 2: single show, because this really is the best advice. In
- 17:05Speaker 2: Philippians 4, where Paul wrote a letter to the church
- 17:09Speaker 2: in Philippi, there's a couple things, starting in 6 and
- 17:13Speaker 2: through 8. It's just paramount. Because again, anxiety, depression, all
- 17:19Speaker 2: those are kind of from the same root, I think.
- 17:22Speaker 2: Verse 6, be anxious for nothing, and just saying that
- 17:26Speaker 2: doesn't make it go in a way. It doesn't make
- 17:28Speaker 2: it go away. But in everything, not for everything, in
- 17:31Speaker 2: everything by prayer and supplications, with thanksgiving, just start thanking
- 17:35Speaker 2: God for some stuff. Thank him for your dog, your cat.
- 17:38Speaker 2: Thank him for the chair that you're sitting on. Thank
- 17:40Speaker 2: him for your shoelaces. Just start thanking him for stuff.
- 17:43Speaker 2: Let your requests be made known to God. God, I
- 17:45Speaker 2: need your help. Start talking to him. I need this.
- 17:47Speaker 2: I need you to help me change the way I'm
- 17:49Speaker 2: thinking right now. And the peace of God, that's what
- 17:52Speaker 2: we're lacking. That's what we want, which surpasses all understandings.
- 17:56Speaker 2: even in the midst of a stage four cancer diagnosis.
- 18:00Speaker 2: I got a piece about it. God's going to take
- 18:01Speaker 2: care of it. If not, I get to go to heaven.
- 18:03Speaker 2: It's a promotion. I mean, that's just the way God
- 18:06Speaker 2: might put it on your heart. That doesn't make sense
- 18:08Speaker 2: to the world, but God give you peace that surpasses
- 18:11Speaker 2: all understanding. It'll guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
- 18:15Speaker 2: These are the first two verses. And for people like
- 18:19Speaker 2: you and I that are trying to counsel, this is
- 18:22Speaker 2: the prescription. If you're going to go to the doctor
- 18:24Speaker 2: and want a prescription, If you go to biblical counseling
- 18:26Speaker 2: or Christian, this is your prescription. Let's get in, reapply this,
- 18:31Speaker 2: rethink through this. Let's start doing this. Your thoughts.
- 18:34Speaker 4: Yeah, no, I mean, it's true. It's be anxious for nothing,
- 18:37Speaker 4: but in everything by prayer and petition. I mean, I
- 18:39Speaker 4: think a lot of times we go to the phone
- 18:41Speaker 4: before we go to the throne, right? We go to
- 18:44Speaker 4: call people and get them to kind of rally with
- 18:47Speaker 4: us with whatever anxiety we're going through or whatever stress
- 18:50Speaker 4: we're going through instead of first going to to prayer
- 18:53Speaker 4: and petition and making sure first, you know, that our
- 18:56Speaker 4: hearts are right, that our motives are right. And it's
- 18:59Speaker 4: fine to go to counseling. It's fine to call a friend,
- 19:02Speaker 4: but make sure that you are bathing it in prayer
- 19:05Speaker 4: first and foremost, because you can get how many different,
- 19:08Speaker 4: you can call five different people, get five different opinions
- 19:10Speaker 4: and five different advice. But if you go to the
- 19:12Speaker 4: word of God, he's going to give you exactly what
- 19:16Speaker 4: you need.
- 19:17Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 19:18Speaker 2: Proverbs three, five and six, trust in the Lord with
- 19:20Speaker 2: all your heart. And lean not on your own understanding.
- 19:24Speaker 2: In all your ways, acknowledge him and he'll direct your path.
- 19:27Speaker 2: And if you do that, he'll never tell you to
- 19:28Speaker 2: kill yourself. That's the voice of the devil. So learning
- 19:31Speaker 2: how to distinguish the voice. Not every thought I have
- 19:34Speaker 2: is the voice of God. So this is where talking
- 19:38Speaker 2: with other Christians about what you're thinking. If there are
- 19:41Speaker 2: Christians like, look, I don't think that's from above. I
- 19:43Speaker 2: think that's from below. Wisdom from above is first peaceable, pure,
- 19:47Speaker 2: full of mercy, willing to yield. And the other is demonic, sensual.
- 19:53Speaker 2: So even there's a verse in James which talks about
- 19:56Speaker 2: where wisdom or where it's coming from, above or below.
- 19:59Speaker 3: Right.
- 20:01Speaker 2: And so, again, suicide awareness, people, by what they're saying,
- 20:06Speaker 2: you can kind of get in it. Out of the
- 20:08Speaker 2: abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. So we need
- 20:10Speaker 2: to really be listening to what people are talking about,
- 20:13Speaker 2: which helps us say, are they on a track? Were
- 20:15Speaker 2: they committing, contemplating, committing suicide? And in this, after verses
- 20:20Speaker 2: six and seven, for the math majors out there, is
- 20:23Speaker 2: verse eight. Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things
- 20:29Speaker 2: are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure,
- 20:33Speaker 2: whatever things are lovely, Jesus said, blessed are the pure
- 20:36Speaker 2: in heart, for they shall see God.
- 20:39Speaker 3: Purity.
- 20:39Speaker 2: You got to purify what you're looking at, what you're
- 20:41Speaker 2: thinking about. Whatever things are lovely, whatever things are a
- 20:44Speaker 2: good report, not the negative, not the gossip, not the
- 20:47Speaker 2: you can't believe what he said or did. If there's
- 20:50Speaker 2: a good report, if there's any virtue, anything praiseworthy, meditate
- 20:55Speaker 2: on these things. And the things you learned, received, and
- 20:58Speaker 2: heard and saw in me, in your pastor, in your
- 21:00Speaker 2: spiritual mentors, the things you heard, learned, and received and
- 21:03Speaker 2: saw in them, If you do these things, the peace
- 21:07Speaker 2: of God will be with you. So he gives us
- 21:08Speaker 2: the exact remedy. What we're meditating on. Noble. Whatever things
- 21:14Speaker 2: are just. Whatever things are pure. But start with whatever
- 21:18Speaker 2: are true. Right. Whatever is true. What if-ing. What if
- 21:22Speaker 2: this happens? What if that happens? You're not meditating on
- 21:25Speaker 2: what's true. Because it's a what if. It's not true.
- 21:27Speaker 3: Right.
- 21:28Speaker 2: Cling to what you know. Your turn.
- 21:30Speaker 4: Yeah, absolutely. I mean, the what ifs will just... cause
- 21:34Speaker 4: that anxiety to come or the depression to come because
- 21:37Speaker 4: we're so focused on the what ifs, the could ifs,
- 21:40Speaker 4: the should ifs that we're not really focused on what
- 21:43Speaker 4: is really actually true. And you know, the enemy, the
- 21:46Speaker 4: devil is the father of lies and he is going
- 21:48Speaker 4: to bombard you with one lie after another lie after
- 21:52Speaker 4: another lie. And those lies can seem real in the
- 21:55Speaker 4: midst of what's going on. But if you go back
- 21:58Speaker 4: to what is true, what is just, what is right,
- 22:00Speaker 4: what does the word say about the situation that then
- 22:03Speaker 4: the truth, it says, what does it say? You shall
- 22:06Speaker 4: know the truth and the truth will set you free.
- 22:09Speaker 4: But sometimes it's easier, especially when you're right in the
- 22:12Speaker 4: middle of the thickness of the situation, it's easier to
- 22:16Speaker 4: believe a lie than it is to believe a truth.
- 22:18Speaker 4: And that's why having solid people in your life and
- 22:22Speaker 4: praying will help you decipher between the truth versus the lie.
- 22:27Speaker 2: What's true is God loves you and so do I.
- 22:29Speaker 2: You may not feel loved right now, but the truth
- 22:31Speaker 2: is you are loved valued highly regarded and um but
- 22:36Speaker 2: yeah and so that was john 8 32 and he
- 22:39Speaker 2: says the truth you'll know the truth that truth will
- 22:41Speaker 2: set you free a little later uh in john 14
- 22:44Speaker 2: 6 he said i am the way the truth so
- 22:48Speaker 2: jesus says i am truth so focusing on jesus is
- 22:52Speaker 2: really focusing on truth and again i don't want to
- 22:55Speaker 2: overly simplify because that's really that simple looking unto Jesus,
- 22:59Speaker 2: the author and the finisher of our faith. That's Hebrews 12, 2.
- 23:03Speaker 2: So what we're looking at, what we're meditating on, looking
- 23:07Speaker 2: at Jesus, focusing on talking to Jesus, praying to Jesus,
- 23:11Speaker 2: praying to God in Jesus' name, Holy Spirit, lead me,
- 23:14Speaker 2: guide me. These are basic, basic, basic principles for a
- 23:19Speaker 2: Christian who's learning how to walk, like a toddler who's
- 23:22Speaker 2: learning how to walk. We're going to fall down. We're
- 23:24Speaker 2: going to bump into some furniture. We might have to
- 23:27Speaker 2: childproof the room Yeah.
- 23:29Speaker 4: And you're going to cry. You're going to spill your milk.
- 23:32Speaker 4: I mean, things are life. It says in scripture that
- 23:36Speaker 4: in this life, we will have trials and we will
- 23:39Speaker 4: have tribulation. We will have trouble. And that's to be expected.
- 23:43Speaker 4: But he also goes on to say, but be of
- 23:46Speaker 4: good cheer. I have overcome this life. And so you
- 23:49Speaker 4: may be feeling alone. You may be feeling hopeless. You
- 23:52Speaker 4: may be feeling isolated or forgotten. But as you said,
- 23:55Speaker 4: Pastor Chuck, God never leaves us nor forsakes us. Never
- 23:59Speaker 4: once have we had to walk alone unless we've chosen
- 24:03Speaker 4: to step away from the Father. And so if you
- 24:07Speaker 4: do feel like, you know, you're all alone and there's
- 24:10Speaker 4: no way out, I want you to know that there
- 24:12Speaker 4: is a way out. And that is through Jesus Christ,
- 24:14Speaker 4: that it is through that relationship with him. Life may
- 24:17Speaker 4: be hard right now, but you know what? The sun's
- 24:20Speaker 4: going to come up tomorrow and you're going to be
- 24:23Speaker 4: able to make it through another day because of Jesus Christ.
- 24:28Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:29Speaker 2: Amen to that. Amen to.
- 24:37Speaker 2: Come on. Bad spelling. Bad spelling. Hello. My fingers and
- 24:42Speaker 2: my brain aren't working. In this world, you will have tribulation.
- 24:47Speaker 2: Maybe without the S. Is it John? I'm thinking John 16... Yeah, 1633.
- 24:56Speaker 2: I was thinking 44. There was no 44. There it is. Yeah,
- 25:01Speaker 2: a great verse. These things I have spoken to you,
- 25:04Speaker 2: that in me you may have peace. There it is.
- 25:07Speaker 2: In me you may have peace. In this world you
- 25:10Speaker 2: will have tribulation, but be of good cheer. I've overcome
- 25:12Speaker 2: the world. So I saw a bumper sticker that says,
- 25:16Speaker 2: know Jesus, know peace. If you know, K-N-O-W, know Jesus,
- 25:21Speaker 2: you'll know peace.
- 25:22Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 25:22Speaker 2: Again, it's really that simple. And again, praying for the
- 25:25Speaker 2: peace of Israel. There'll be no peace for Israel without
- 25:28Speaker 2: their Messiah. Those that have rejected Jesus to Messiah, they
- 25:32Speaker 2: should be very afraid because they rejected the offer of salvation.
- 25:36Speaker 2: It was for the Jew first, still for the Jew first.
- 25:39Speaker 2: God has no favoritism at all for Israel without Messiah.
- 25:44Speaker 2: They're broken off. The wrath of God abides on those
- 25:47Speaker 2: who don't have the Son of God. Israel's not that special.
- 25:50Speaker 2: The rest of the world, God loves the whole world equally.
- 25:53Speaker 2: And he gave Jesus and whoever received Jesus is part
- 25:56Speaker 2: of the body of Messiah. So this whole, even Iran,
- 25:59Speaker 2: Israel thing, people taking sides, Jesus didn't come to take sides.
- 26:02Speaker 2: He came to take over, take over your life to
- 26:06Speaker 2: Lord your life lead. And the perfect, most perfect way,
- 26:10Speaker 2: like a perfect heavenly father would lead your wife, not
- 26:13Speaker 2: an abusive father, And there's been some husbands that maybe
- 26:17Speaker 2: bossed you around and you might've had some bad bosses,
- 26:20Speaker 2: but Jesus is the greatest boss. But this is why
- 26:23Speaker 2: he says in me, you're going to have peace. And
- 26:25Speaker 2: without Jesus, there is no peace. So let's get back
- 26:28Speaker 2: to the basics. That's why we preach the gospel. I'm sorry.
- 26:33Speaker 4: Yeah, no, I think we, we, we complicate it sometimes,
- 26:36Speaker 4: don't we? But it says in, in me, you will
- 26:38Speaker 4: have peace, not in your job, not in your family,
- 26:41Speaker 4: you know, your husband, your wife, not in your bank
- 26:43Speaker 4: account in me, you will have peace. All the other
- 26:46Speaker 4: stuff is just added unto us because of his goodness
- 26:49Speaker 4: and his graciousness. And so when we have our focus
- 26:53Speaker 4: on those other things, that's when, yeah, we, we, we
- 26:57Speaker 4: start to lose our peace and we, we have peace
- 27:00Speaker 4: in the middle of a storm. We can, as long
- 27:03Speaker 4: as we're, you know, we know who our anchor is. Right.
- 27:06Speaker 4: And so it's, it's easy. This world, um, can trip
- 27:09Speaker 4: us up like nobody's business, but we're not, this is,
- 27:13Speaker 4: we're just passing through and we have to hold onto
- 27:16Speaker 4: it lightly and every life matters. And so anybody struggling,
- 27:20Speaker 4: you have to know that your life matters and Jesus
- 27:22Speaker 4: died on the cross for you so that you could
- 27:24Speaker 4: walk in the fullness of what he has for you.
- 27:28Speaker 2: Yeah. Um, and again, end times, it's part of end
- 27:32Speaker 2: time stuff. Um, and, uh, And that'll drive people to like,
- 27:38Speaker 2: I just don't want to be here anymore. I get it.
- 27:40Speaker 2: You know, what's going on in the world. Matthew 24,
- 27:42Speaker 2: he talks about, you know, all this stuff. And, you know,
- 27:51Speaker 2: but he's talking about his plan. You know, there's going
- 27:55Speaker 2: to be nations. He says, you'll hear of wars, rumors
- 27:59Speaker 2: of wars. See to it that you're not troubled. All
- 28:03Speaker 2: these things must come to pass, but the end is
- 28:05Speaker 2: not yet. Nations against nations, kingdom against kingdoms, famines, pestilences, earthquakes,
- 28:11Speaker 2: various places. All these are the beginnings of sorrows. So
- 28:14Speaker 2: he's not pulling any punches. He's like, these are going
- 28:16Speaker 2: to happen. But make sure, let not your heart be troubled,
- 28:20Speaker 2: John 14. And that's, again, the beginning of going down
- 28:23Speaker 2: that road. Like, I don't even want to be here anymore.
- 28:26Speaker 2: But knowing God has the plan, he has a purpose
- 28:28Speaker 2: for you in your life. That's the hope that we give.
- 28:31Speaker 2: Great show. It's amazing how quick 30 minutes fly by
- 28:34Speaker 2: and we run through a lot of verses. You're amazing.
- 28:37Speaker 4: Thank you. It's fun. I enjoy being on here. So
- 28:40Speaker 4: thank you for the opportunity.
- 28:41Speaker 2: Yeah, so awesome. I'd love for you to lead our
- 28:44Speaker 2: viewers in prayer and I'll close. Sound good?
- 28:45Speaker 4: Yeah, absolutely.
- 28:47Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 28:47Speaker 4: So Father, we thank you that your word does never
- 28:49Speaker 4: return void. Lord, we thank you that you are King
- 28:52Speaker 4: of Kings and Lord of Lords and the great I am. Father,
- 28:55Speaker 4: anybody who is struggling right now with any suicidal thoughts
- 28:58Speaker 4: or tendencies, Father, I just ask that you just show
- 29:01Speaker 4: up in a mighty way where that they will have
- 29:03Speaker 4: a supernatural energy encounter with you, Lord, that rocks their
- 29:06Speaker 4: world and changes their life. Father God, I pray that
- 29:09Speaker 4: they will feel seen, heard, known, and loved by you
- 29:14Speaker 4: like never before. And we just thank you for your
- 29:16Speaker 4: word that it never returns void.
- 29:18Speaker 1: In the name of Jesus.
- 29:20Speaker 2: Amen. And Lord, I do pray for wisdom and discernment
- 29:22Speaker 2: for us that may be in contact or toe-to-toe with
- 29:26Speaker 2: someone who's thinking about it. And you know what they're
- 29:28Speaker 2: thinking about. I pray you'd give us a word of wisdom,
- 29:30Speaker 2: word of knowledge to know who to talk to and
- 29:33Speaker 2: who to love on and, again, help them get their mind,
- 29:36Speaker 2: their spirit focused on you the wills, the plan you
- 29:39Speaker 2: have for their life that would get them excited and
- 29:42Speaker 2: just breathe life into their spirit. And pray for that
- 29:46Speaker 2: person right now who's even alone, that your Holy Spirit
- 29:48Speaker 2: would just interrupt their thoughts and just reveal yourself to them.
- 29:52Speaker 2: Thank you for tuning in time together to talk about
- 29:54Speaker 2: this very, very important topic. And may it go far
- 29:57Speaker 2: and wide and do what it's meant to do to
- 29:58Speaker 2: inspire others in Jesus' name.
- 30:01Speaker 1: Amen.
- 30:01Speaker 4: Amen.
- 30:02Speaker 2: Amen.
- 30:03Speaker 4: Amen. Awesome.
