- 0:23chickens. Hey everybody.
- 0:28Good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30So today we are talking about our crazy ability to be able to
- 0:37look at other people and see what's wrong with them and not
- 0:41necessarily see that in ourselves because you're all
- 0:44laughing right now. And I know you are because it's
- 0:47all true. We can always look at other
- 0:48people and we can always see what's wrong with them.
- 0:50But we rarely look at ourselves with the same, you know, finite
- 0:55glass and say, well what is wrong with me?
- 0:57As much as there is with other people.
- 1:00And we always Look outside of ourselves for Solutions rather
- 1:04than looking inside of ourselves to say.
- 1:06Okay, I really need to look at myself instead of them or only
- 1:09them and trying to figure it out.
- 1:12So let's take one of our most important relationships that we
- 1:16have, which is with our family. And it doesn't matter how your
- 1:19family's made up, doesn't matter what the composure or no
- 1:23composition of it, is it matters that you're looking at it and
- 1:29you're saying to yourself, okay? I can look at myself and I can
- 1:33see my role in this, in this layout of my family.
- 1:37And I can see everything that's wrong with them.
- 1:39I can see how they do all these things wrong.
- 1:41I can see how they answer me. I can see their actions, I can
- 1:44see everything that's wrong with them.
- 1:46But in my including myself in this critical analysis that I'm
- 1:49putting forward, am I giving an honest opinion of myself outside
- 1:55of my critical eye for them? And the answer is a hard.
- 1:59No, I already know. Oh, that that's a hard.
- 2:01No, because that's the human nature that we live with each.
- 2:04And every one of us is to look outside of ourselves for the
- 2:06problems. Before we look at ourselves for
- 2:08the problems, I myself do this, I can look at things and I can
- 2:12tell you everything that's wrong with my husband, and my kids,
- 2:17and how they're the cause of the issues, as opposed to me and
- 2:21maybe how I'm communicating things with them, or how I'm
- 2:24describing things to them, or my expectations of them or how The
- 2:31expectations might just be absolutely unreasonable because
- 2:35no one is going to be as organized as I am in these
- 2:38situations or do it the way that I do it just because it's my
- 2:41way. And if it's not my way then it
- 2:44must be the wrong way. Well, that was probably one of
- 2:47the hardest lessons I ever had to learn was that my way was not
- 2:50the only way to do something. And I think that when you can
- 2:55stop and you can pause, especially if you are willing to
- 2:59do this with your family. Ali, and then you can expand
- 3:02out, you know, you have concentric circles of how live
- 3:04life works and you can work yourself out and say, okay,
- 3:07well, what about my co-workers or people I lead or people that
- 3:11I have an effect on in my life. If you can start to work
- 3:14concentrically out from the core, then you get better and
- 3:17better and better as it goes and you can start to see how you
- 3:20affect other people. So profoundly.
- 3:24And you can start to see how you can look at yourself and say,
- 3:28okay, well clearly I'm interacting in this in a way
- 3:30That's making this difficult for the other person as well and if
- 3:36we really want to clean ourselves up, if we really want
- 3:38to clean the situation completely up, and we want to
- 3:41make it so that we can hit new levels of greatness.
- 3:45Now, you're all going to hear my little dog barking this morning
- 3:48because she's out here with me, you'll start to recognize that
- 3:52as you start to clean this up within yourself.
- 3:55You can start to see shifts in other people because it's
- 3:58impossible and I'm I'm really using that word truly.
- 4:02Meaning it. I'm not doing it just as a
- 4:04cliche. It is impossible for something
- 4:07to remain the same when a factor in the equation changes.
- 4:10It's the butterfly effect. So when something changes, even
- 4:13if it's a my new amount, something else has to change and
- 4:17that is across the board. So when someone will say to me,
- 4:20okay, I'm willing to do this and then there's a shift, they'll
- 4:23see a little shift in their partner, or their co-workers, or
- 4:26whatever, and it will last for a period of time.
- 4:29And then they'll say well we're right back.
- 4:30Where we used to be and I will check in and I'll say well are
- 4:33you remaining consistent with how you changed and there's
- 4:36inevitably the pause and they go maybe not and I say okay so you
- 4:41slipped back into an old behavior and they say probably
- 4:46but because they weren't monitoring it because they
- 4:49weren't critically on it. They could not discern if that
- 4:52was really what was happening in the moment and they just slipped
- 4:55back into the behavior. And so we went right back down
- 4:57the rabbit hole again and as I always like to say not only did
- 5:00Did you go down the rabbit hole? But you ended up seeing Alice
- 5:03and having tea with the rabbit and enjoying your time down in
- 5:07Wonderland and you didn't even realize it.
- 5:10So what's so important is that you're willing to measure
- 5:14success and failures over and over and over.
- 5:18This is another mr. Miyagi moment from The Karate
- 5:20Kid wax on wax off, you have got to be willing to do it over and
- 5:24over and over. And this is why I say you've got
- 5:28to track yourself. And say, okay what today, what
- 5:33were my wins? Where could I have been better?
- 5:35What can I do better tomorrow? And for most of us that is to be
- 5:40very on track with monitoring our own behavior.
- 5:43Our own language, our own reactions, our own Focus because
- 5:47when we do that, everything else change.
- 5:49Because I know you've heard me say this before and I sound like
- 5:52a broken record but change is an inside job and when you change
- 5:55yourself everything else around you changes.
- 5:57So I'm going to challenge you to.
- 6:00Look at this And say, you know, am I willing to look at myself
- 6:03as critically as I am other people and if you do that, even
- 6:08if you just start off today and you start to recognize how you
- 6:11showed up in your, you know, point-blank honest with yourself
- 6:14and you say, you know, alright, I was a complete jackass today,
- 6:18I've had those days and not long ago where I was just a complete
- 6:21jackass because maybe I didn't get enough sleep, or maybe I
- 6:24wasn't hydrated enough or whatever, there's no reason and
- 6:28I can come up with a million excuses.
- 6:29But the truth is, I was Dreadful and I needed to fix it.
- 6:32So start there, start with yourself.
- 6:35Start looking at yourself and start asking the questions and I
- 6:38promise you, we get some fascinating answers and you'll
- 6:41work yourself through. So I hope you guys have a very
- 6:43blessed day discovering yourselves and love yourself
- 6:46anyway. Because guess what?
- 6:47This is a part of Being Human, this is who we are.
- 6:50So I will see you tomorrow and I hope you have a wonderful day.
