- 0:48Speaker 1: Welcome to today's edition of Reflection on the Word with
- 0:50Speaker 1: Richard K. I'm Chuck Christie, and today we are asking
- 0:54Speaker 1: you to spend a few moments of your time with
- 0:56Speaker 1: us each day as Richard shares from God's Word with notes, quotes,
- 1:00Speaker 1: and stories along with some of his own personal experiences,
- 1:03Speaker 1: to confirm for you God's great love for us, that
- 1:06Speaker 1: his compassion for us never fails, and that he has
- 1:08Speaker 1: a great faithfulness toward us in every regard. In Lamentations
- 1:12Speaker 1: chapter three, verses twenty two and twenty three, we read,
- 1:16Speaker 1: because of the Lord's great love, we are not consumed,
- 1:20Speaker 1: for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning.
- 1:24Speaker 1: Great is your faithfulness. Now, if you miss a portion
- 1:27Speaker 1: of today's broadcast or would like to recommend it to
- 1:29Speaker 1: a friend, you can hear this program anytime online at
- 1:33Speaker 1: Talknetwork Radio dot com. Well, now here's Richard with today's reflection.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Do you know Jesus was a seeker? Jesus sought the
- 1:44Speaker 2: loss we read in Matthew chapter nine and verses eleven
- 1:50Speaker 2: through thirteen. When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples,
- 1:55Speaker 2: why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?
- 2:00Speaker 2: But when he heard this, he said, those who are
- 2:03Speaker 2: well don't need a doctor of the sick. Do go
- 2:07Speaker 2: and learn what this means. I desire mercy and not sacrifice,
- 2:12Speaker 2: For I didn't come to call the righteous, but sinners.
- 2:17Speaker 2: Jesus sought the lass. You could say he was the
- 2:22Speaker 2: original seeker, but unlike the modern term, Jesus didn't wait
- 2:27Speaker 2: for seekers to see him. He actively and sacrificially sought them.
- 2:34Speaker 2: When the Pharisees saw Jesus keeping company with a lot
- 2:37Speaker 2: of disreputable characters, they had a fit and lit into
- 2:41Speaker 2: Jesus' followers, Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors
- 2:46Speaker 2: and sinners? And of course Jesus answered in the way
- 2:51Speaker 2: we read. The Pharisees viewed Jesus as a bad example
- 2:56Speaker 2: because he associated with people who needed God, who needed mercy,
- 3:01Speaker 2: who thought they were beyond ever being accepted by God.
- 3:06Speaker 2: The Pharisees saw themselves as good examples because they thought
- 3:10Speaker 2: they served God by insisting people achieve righteousness through specific
- 3:15Speaker 2: rules and rituals. But Jesus knew no one can work
- 3:21Speaker 2: their way into God's righteousness. That's why he was down
- 3:26Speaker 2: here among the disreputable, including the disreputable pharisees. Our objective
- 3:34Speaker 2: in serving Jesus is to make friends with others, including
- 3:38Speaker 2: those who might be considered outsiders. Our message is this,
- 3:44Speaker 2: we are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making
- 3:48Speaker 2: his appeal through us. We implore you, on Christ's behalf,
- 3:54Speaker 2: be reconciled to God. That's Second Corinthians, chapter five and verse.
- 4:01Speaker 2: If all our time is devoted to being with other believers,
- 4:05Speaker 2: how will the loss be sought? How many non Christian
- 4:09Speaker 2: friends do we try to cultivate? If we are to
- 4:14Speaker 2: be obedient disciples of the Lord Jesus, then we are
- 4:18Speaker 2: to go into all the world and make disciples too.
- 4:22Speaker 1: Richard will be right back in a moment to wrap up.
- 4:25Speaker 1: But if you've just joined us, you've been listening to
- 4:27Speaker 1: Reflections on the Word with Richard k. You can hear
- 4:30Speaker 1: this message in its entirety again online as well as
- 4:33Speaker 1: Richard's entire archive at Talknetwork Radio dot com. We would
- 4:38Speaker 1: like to acknowledge our theme song, how Great is Thy
- 4:41Speaker 1: Faithfulness from the America's twenty five Favorite Hymns album, unless otherwise.
- 4:46Speaker 1: Express scriptures are read from the Holman Christian Standard Bible,
- 4:50Speaker 1: which is published by Homan Bible Publishers in Nashville, Tennessee.
- 4:55Speaker 1: Additional resources used for Reflections on the Word with Richard
- 4:58Speaker 1: Ka include Great Thy Faithfulness by Our Daily Bread and
- 5:02Speaker 1: printed by Discovery House Publishers. Again, here is Richard to
- 5:06Speaker 1: wrap up today's message.
- 5:09Speaker 2: What steps can we take to reach the loss seekers
- 5:13Speaker 2: in our world? Think about the Great Commission as God's
- 5:17Speaker 2: permission to do exactly what He did. Jesus met with sinners,
- 5:24Speaker 2: eight with sinners, dealt with sinners, and for gay sinners
- 5:30Speaker 2: just like you and I, are we being obedient if
- 5:34Speaker 2: we don't do the same. Go and learn what this means.
- 5:40Speaker 2: It is our mercy, not sacrifice, for I have not
- 5:44Speaker 2: come to call the righteous, but sinners Matthew nine thirteen.
- 5:51Speaker 2: And that is today's reflection on the Word.
- 5:55Speaker 1: Thank you, Richard. Join us again tomorrow when we continue
- 5:59Speaker 1: with the next edition of Reflections on the Word with
- 6:01Speaker 1: Richard K.
- 6:02Speaker 2: For Richard and the entire team, this is Chuck
- 6:05Speaker 1: Christie saying thanks for listening to this edition of Reflections
- 6:08Speaker 1: on the Word.
