- 1:44Speaker 1: I have butterflies. I don't have butterflies when I'm just
- 1:47Speaker 1: shooting the ship with you. But this is a big deal. Yeah,
- 1:49Speaker 1: we got a list celebrities. This is the tyle listener.
- 1:52Speaker 1: This is the type of shit that freaking you know
- 1:54Speaker 1: shows when they're getting launched and everything like that. They
- 1:57Speaker 1: hope to get a guest like Brendan Fray. When Fallon launched,
- 2:01Speaker 1: he wished he got a guess like Brendan Frasier on
- 2:04Speaker 1: that episode. Same thing with Kimmel when they launched, it
- 2:06Speaker 1: were like, if we could get somebody like Brendan Frasier.
- 2:09Speaker 1: By the way, we've been saying it wrong. I'm sorry
- 2:11Speaker 1: to interrupt you, but I got yelled at on the internet.
- 2:13Speaker 1: It's Phraser. We've both been saying Frasier. It's Fraser, Fraser
- 2:19Speaker 1: like Fraser like er like Laser, Fraser Fraser. Okay, I'm
- 2:25Speaker 1: just saying I got someone was like love the podcast
- 2:28Speaker 1: sac You're all you're both saying Brendan's name wrong. Sorry? Sorry,
- 2:36Speaker 1: do you know my times? I get Donald Phisson, Pison Pison?
- 2:41Speaker 1: What's the other? Um? Oh, there's another phase on but
- 2:44Speaker 1: he spells it differently. There's phase on love Love, and
- 2:48Speaker 1: then there's Frankie Faison who spells it the same way. Right,
- 2:51Speaker 1: there's a phase on North Carolina. I've never been there.
- 2:55Speaker 1: White and black Phasons. How are you, guys? How's your
- 2:58Speaker 1: week going? By the way down, Well, did you know
- 3:00Speaker 1: that Dan's nickname is Daniel? I thought that that was
- 3:03Speaker 1: just kind of a Joel joke, but it really is
- 3:06Speaker 1: his his nickname in life Daniel. It's a nickname or
- 3:09Speaker 1: is that your name? But his name is Daniel. His
- 3:11Speaker 1: name is Daniel. But he's been because a very long
- 3:13Speaker 1: story he doesn't want to go into. But Daniel, happy
- 3:16Speaker 1: to do it another time, Happy to do it another time. No,
- 3:18Speaker 1: but I'm starting to wonder if we should call on
- 3:20Speaker 1: the podcast. I should be calling him Daniel because I
- 3:22Speaker 1: like to use nicknames. It makes me feel like I'm
- 3:24Speaker 1: close to someone. Well, I would be honored if you
- 3:26Speaker 1: would call me Daniel, or I might just do there
- 3:29Speaker 1: is Daniel. I'm gonna see, I'm gonna see. I'm gonna
- 3:33Speaker 1: see if it flows, because you can't force a nickname
- 3:35Speaker 1: like like you know, I hate it when when you
- 3:38Speaker 1: say someone's nickname and you feel like, oh, I just
- 3:40Speaker 1: it is not flowing out of me right now. When
- 3:42Speaker 1: I was a kid, When I was a kid, my
- 3:43Speaker 1: mom was like the the not the leader of a camp,
- 3:47Speaker 1: but like the creative director at a camp. It was
- 3:51Speaker 1: a camp that had a boy season in a girl season.
- 3:53Speaker 1: The name of it was Camp at Water. It was
- 3:54Speaker 1: in Massachusetts, right and I remember she went around a
- 3:58Speaker 1: table with all the counselors because she had to be
- 4:00Speaker 1: there early to meet all the counselors and stuff. She
- 4:02Speaker 1: went around a picnic table we were outside. I was
- 4:06Speaker 1: there because I'm there with my mom, and she's like,
- 4:09Speaker 1: all right, everybody, just give me your first uh, your
- 4:13Speaker 1: name and then you know a nickname that people give you.
- 4:15Speaker 1: So people was going around, I'm terrific Tasha, or I'm
- 4:19Speaker 1: you know, stunning Stephen. And they got to this dude
- 4:23Speaker 1: named Darryl. He was like, they called me delicious Darrel,
- 4:28Speaker 1: and I remember I remember being like wow and I
- 4:31Speaker 1: and then later on Cedric the Entertainer has a joke
- 4:34Speaker 1: where you know what grown man wants to call another
- 4:37Speaker 1: grown man? Delicious? Was your nickname? My father called me
- 4:49Speaker 1: the Great Destroyer. It'd be like, oh, here comes the
- 4:52Speaker 1: great Destroyer. I was had my head was constantly in
- 4:55Speaker 1: the clouds, and I had a tendency to you just
- 4:57Speaker 1: break things and running into them arms like gesticulating wildly,
- 5:02Speaker 1: knocking over cups and stuff. So wow, that stuck. Yer.
- 5:08Speaker 1: My nickname was BIZ because it's my initials backwards braf
- 5:15Speaker 1: Israel Zach. So uh. When I was a kid. So
- 5:20Speaker 1: I grew up with Terrence Howard, right, he and I.
- 5:22Speaker 1: I've known him since he was like twelve years old.
- 5:24Speaker 1: As a matter of fact, my first I took him
- 5:26Speaker 1: on his first audition. He crashed and crashed an auditioned
- 5:30Speaker 1: with me, and it wound up being like the Jackson's
- 5:33Speaker 1: U Special, and he became you know, he's Terrence Howard. Now, Anyway,
- 5:39Speaker 1: when we would hang out when we were kids, there
- 5:40Speaker 1: was this dude in the neighborhood who didn't necessarily like
- 5:43Speaker 1: the fact that two acting, you know, teenagers or you know,
- 5:47Speaker 1: young men were walking around hanging out together. So he
- 5:51Speaker 1: was called show Biz and I was Hollywood. So when
- 5:56Speaker 1: we come outside and back here comes show Biz in Hollywood,
- 6:00Speaker 1: I'm gonna start calling you Hollywood. No, no, no, how
- 6:06Speaker 1: are you? How's your life? Donald Phazon? It's good. You know.
- 6:09Speaker 1: I board in the house and I'm in the house
- 6:14Speaker 1: board old yeah, man, it's the same old stuff. Yeah. Well,
- 6:21Speaker 1: you got a birthday coming up, I do. I'm gonna
- 6:24Speaker 1: be forty six, that's fucking it'll literally be twenty years
- 6:28Speaker 1: since we started Scrubs. When we started Scrubs, I had
- 6:31Speaker 1: just turned twenty six, so it'll be twenty years this
- 6:34Speaker 1: year Scrubs will have been We will have been making
- 6:37Speaker 1: Scrubs like it was the first. The first episode came
- 6:40Speaker 1: out when I was twenty six years old. I bought
- 6:42Speaker 1: you a present. No, my wife bought me a present.
- 6:45Speaker 1: I bought you a present for both Father's Day and
- 6:49Speaker 1: your birthday, So did my wife. What did you get me?
- 6:51Speaker 1: I'm not gonna tell you. I'm not gonna tell at
- 6:53Speaker 1: least all these fine folks listening, but it did. A
- 6:56Speaker 1: donut machine? No, are you gonna keep the donut machine? Though,
- 6:59Speaker 1: by the way, we have heard the update on the
- 7:00Speaker 1: donut machine. I think I might keep the donut Yeah,
- 7:03Speaker 1: of course you're gonna keep the donut machine. Will you
- 7:06Speaker 1: post pictures on your Instagram so so our listeners can
- 7:09Speaker 1: see it? Absolutely? I made ice cream yesterday. I made
- 7:12Speaker 1: a raspberry ice cream yesterday. It was delicious. Do you
- 7:16Speaker 1: have an ice cream maker? Well, there are a lot
- 7:19Speaker 1: of things that you can use to make ice cream,
- 7:21Speaker 1: But I have a little attachment that goes on my
- 7:24Speaker 1: little Belleville and it's a mixer and it's spit. You know.
- 7:28Speaker 1: It took me two days to make ice cream, but
- 7:30Speaker 1: I made ice cream, and then I made some fudge.
- 7:33Speaker 1: So it was raspberry ice cream with a little chocolate
- 7:35Speaker 1: fudge underneath. Let me tell you, they went crazy in
- 7:38Speaker 1: this household for my food mine. So this is a
- 7:41Speaker 1: new phase for your quarantine. You become a dessert chef. Yeah.
- 7:45Speaker 1: You know a lot of people thought I would phase
- 7:47Speaker 1: off when it came to cooking. I decided to fase on.
- 7:50Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. I think that the best
- 7:54Speaker 1: solution for your diet is to start becoming a dessert chef.
- 7:58Speaker 1: I think it'll be great for my Celester all yeah,
- 8:01Speaker 1: and it'd be great for my It'd be great for
- 8:03Speaker 1: my diet. You know what I mean. I am a
- 8:05Speaker 1: dessert man. I love sweets, I love sugar, I love
- 8:09Speaker 1: ice cream. Well, dude, I made fudge to make fudge brownies.
- 8:13Speaker 1: You gotta make fudge first. I made fudge first. Oh,
- 8:16Speaker 1: let me tell you something right now, and nothing like
- 8:19Speaker 1: some homemade fudge. Oh my gosh, that shit is good.
- 8:23Speaker 1: Listen that it's good. Um. The people loved Scott Foley.
- 8:28Speaker 1: Great reaction to Scott Foley was a great guest man.
- 8:31Speaker 1: He was a great guest Everybody loved him on there yeah,
- 8:35Speaker 1: and my whole timeline was nobody cares Shan. Like, I'm
- 8:38Speaker 1: talking about ninety nine percent of the comments where nobody
- 8:41Speaker 1: cares shan. Some people said nobody cares Zach. Yeah, well
- 8:44Speaker 1: I said that a couple of times. Oh that was you,
- 8:47Speaker 1: that was you commenting. Yeah, that was me, I thought
- 8:52Speaker 1: you man on my Instagram. Um, I'm good. You know,
- 8:55Speaker 1: I don't know how do you answer that these days?
- 8:57Speaker 1: He just everyone just goes yeah, I don't know, staring
- 8:59Speaker 1: at the well. I think it's crazy. You know, the
- 9:01Speaker 1: cases are all rising. You know, somebody wrote somebody wrote
- 9:05Speaker 1: on Twitter. I thought it was really appropriate. They said, like,
- 9:08Speaker 1: so we're all just kind of got bored and just
- 9:11Speaker 1: said fuck it because people are just going out there.
- 9:14Speaker 1: It's rising. Fauci said something like, what do you you know?
- 9:18Speaker 1: People were saying like, oh, it's the second wave. Fu.
- 9:20Speaker 1: She's like, what are you talking about? This is still
- 9:21Speaker 1: the first wave. Yeah, you know, and it's spiking everywhere.
- 9:24Speaker 1: It's spiking in LA it's spiking in so many places
- 9:28Speaker 1: and spiking in the South. Hardcore Yeah, I know. So,
- 9:32Speaker 1: I don't know, man, it's crazy. It just feels like
- 9:34Speaker 1: people went fuck it. I'm over it, and they're just
- 9:37Speaker 1: gonna they're going out. Um, I don't know, if you've
- 9:39Speaker 1: seen all these videos of people out out and about
- 9:42Speaker 1: with no masks on. I think it's I think it's crazy. Yeah,
- 9:45Speaker 1: you know, Um, everybody's gonna live their life, you know
- 9:50Speaker 1: how They're gonna live there, you know. And I can't.
- 9:52Speaker 1: I can't stop anyone from I can. I can beg
- 9:55Speaker 1: and I can plead, and I can you know, you know,
- 9:58Speaker 1: say to That's all we can do. Please don't go out.
- 10:01Speaker 1: Please think of your fellow man. There are the people
- 10:03Speaker 1: that can't. You know, that won't be as lucky as
- 10:08Speaker 1: you are. If you are one of the lucky ones
- 10:10Speaker 1: that you know, this virus does nothing too. But um,
- 10:15Speaker 1: I can't, I can't. What are you gonna do. You're
- 10:17Speaker 1: gonna arrest people? What are you gonna do? Jump on
- 10:19Speaker 1: people in stop? I haven't. We haven't, we haven't. We
- 10:21Speaker 1: haven't spoken too much on about our friend Nick on
- 10:24Speaker 1: this podcast. You know, Donald and I have a very
- 10:26Speaker 1: good friend, Nick Cordero. You may have heard about him
- 10:28Speaker 1: in the news. He's about as sick as someone can be,
- 10:31Speaker 1: and he was had no pre existing conditions, and he
- 10:36Speaker 1: is forty years old, and he was. He was staying
- 10:41Speaker 1: in my guesthouse. And he's one of my best friends
- 10:43Speaker 1: in the world. He's an amazing actor, broadcast play together.
- 10:46Speaker 1: We did a play together. He's a wonderful actor, a
- 10:49Speaker 1: wonderful singer. Um, he's just incredible. You know. People always
- 10:55Speaker 1: say this about people, but like, honestly, he's the nicest
- 10:57Speaker 1: person I've ever met. Like, like, there is not a malicious, weird, competitive,
- 11:06Speaker 1: angry cell in his body. He's an angel of a
- 11:08Speaker 1: human being. And uh, he was, he was here, he
- 11:12Speaker 1: was living in my guest I'll say. He and his
- 11:13Speaker 1: wife bought a new house in LA. They were making
- 11:16Speaker 1: the move from New York to LA. They have a
- 11:18Speaker 1: they have a one year old baby. They were just
- 11:20Speaker 1: living the American dream. They literally bought their first house.
- 11:23Speaker 1: And he went back to New York to pack up
- 11:25Speaker 1: his apartment and got COVID so bad that he's been
- 11:29Speaker 1: staying alive with the help of machines. I don't and
- 11:32Speaker 1: no one knows if he's gonna make it. He's lost
- 11:34Speaker 1: his leg due to complications clotting and such. His lungs,
- 11:41Speaker 1: his lungs are just Swiss cheese, they said, the COVID
- 11:44Speaker 1: just just fucking destroys the lungs. So, UM, I not
- 11:49Speaker 1: to be a Debbie downer on this show, but I
- 11:52Speaker 1: haven't been talking about it because we're here to hopefully
- 11:54Speaker 1: entertain you and take your mind off things. But if
- 11:56Speaker 1: you're headed out and you don't have a mask on, uh,
- 12:00Speaker 1: I want you to to think about my friend Nick.
- 12:02Speaker 1: Maybe just think about it, because I think people takes
- 12:05Speaker 1: comfort and going well, worst case scenario, I'm forty, what's
- 12:09Speaker 1: gonna happen this guy had had he was healthy, his
- 12:12Speaker 1: wife's a trainer. I mean, he's a healthy guy and uh,
- 12:16Speaker 1: and he could he could die. So I don't mean
- 12:20Speaker 1: to to to preach. And I wasn't even gonna bring
- 12:22Speaker 1: this up, but I just felt weird all of a
- 12:24Speaker 1: sudden not mentioning it. And uh and um, you know,
- 12:30Speaker 1: so while you think, while you think it's uh, while
- 12:32Speaker 1: everybody's out there, just you know, uh about to uh
- 12:40Speaker 1: all the people that are sick of this virus, just
- 12:41Speaker 1: know that this virus isn't sick of us exactly, and
- 12:45Speaker 1: and just know that, uh, you know, don't have in
- 12:47Speaker 1: your head. I think it's a shame for people to
- 12:49Speaker 1: have in their head. Uh, worst case scenario. I get it.
- 12:52Speaker 1: They say it's like a really bad flu. That's that's bullshit.
- 12:55Speaker 1: That's some people. But there's also some people like Nick
- 12:58Speaker 1: who are totally healthy and have a one year old
- 13:00Speaker 1: baby and I just started walking, who just started walking
- 13:04Speaker 1: today actually, and uh and his and he could die.
- 13:07Speaker 1: I mean, we don't know. It's it's it could go
- 13:10Speaker 1: either way. So I'm sorry to open the show with that.
- 13:13Speaker 1: Donald helped me change the tone of things by being
- 13:16Speaker 1: jovial and leading us in some six seven amoris about
- 13:22Speaker 1: show we made about a bunch of docs and nurses.
- 13:29Speaker 1: Said he's a stories should so yadoo around here, A
- 13:37Speaker 1: yadoo around here. Show m. Let's bring in Brendan everybody,
- 13:45Speaker 1: Let's bring in Brendan Fraser. Donald, don't say it like
- 13:48Speaker 1: the oh I'm shu to see you too, oh man.
- 14:04Speaker 1: Donald and I both admitted to each other that we
- 14:05Speaker 1: have butterflies because we don't have fancy movie stars on
- 14:09Speaker 1: our on our pott. No offense to our other guests.
- 14:11Speaker 1: They're great offense. They all did they they've all been great,
- 14:15Speaker 1: but they're not like Brendan Fraser. We're just kicked it up.
- 14:19Speaker 1: A notch like like like like Emerald used to say, Bam,
- 14:23Speaker 1: kick it up a notch. Flattery will get you everywhere, Brandon,
- 14:28Speaker 1: we um. We we're giddy that you're here. Not only
- 14:32Speaker 1: are we not only have we always both been fans
- 14:34Speaker 1: of your work, but when you came on the show,
- 14:37Speaker 1: it was really cool because you were by far the
- 14:41Speaker 1: fanciest guest star we had on the show. And then
- 14:44Speaker 1: you became like people's favorite storyline. And I don't even
- 14:49Speaker 1: if you know this, but the episode where you where
- 14:52Speaker 1: You died is a lot of people's favorite episode of
- 14:55Speaker 1: the whole series. And so we're just we're thrilled you're
- 14:58Speaker 1: here and we want to talk about all of it.
- 15:00Speaker 1: Thank you. You helped launch our you know, I don't
- 15:04Speaker 1: think I don't know if it definitely wasn't on purpose,
- 15:07Speaker 1: but our buddy Josh Raiden, who gets spoken of every
- 15:10Speaker 1: freaking episode. His song was played at your character's funeral
- 15:16Speaker 1: and because of that his career. I mean, he travels
- 15:19Speaker 1: all over the world now and performs to packed houses.
- 15:23Speaker 1: But this was the first song that he ever wrote,
- 15:26Speaker 1: and somehow Bill used it in in this episode that
- 15:31Speaker 1: somehow is me. I said, you need to stud of
- 15:33Speaker 1: the song try my buddy's first song. He had never
- 15:36Speaker 1: written a song, and we played it during Your Funeral
- 15:39Speaker 1: episode and it launched his career. But anyway, we let
- 15:42Speaker 1: Brendan talk. That's really nice. I mean, look, the music's
- 15:46Speaker 1: important so much in the across the arc of the
- 15:49Speaker 1: whole whole show. I mean, the choices were always spot on.
- 15:55Speaker 1: They made you feel the internal conflict even though there
- 15:59Speaker 1: was you know, the comedy that that um it was
- 16:02Speaker 1: juxtaposed against. It's a very serious environment. I mean, how
- 16:06Speaker 1: do you make a hospital funny? Yeah, you guys did it,
- 16:12Speaker 1: um for many, many episodes, and I, um, I'm so
- 16:18Speaker 1: pleased when I've been going to comic conventions in the
- 16:22Speaker 1: last two years or so, that's a similar thing that
- 16:26Speaker 1: everyone says, they're very um, they're moved by that episode. Now, look,
- 16:31Speaker 1: thanks for nice things you're saying to me, But you're
- 16:33Speaker 1: only as good as you're the company you keep and
- 16:35Speaker 1: how well it's written, and some camera things too. But
- 16:40Speaker 1: I just I should say belated thank you, like what
- 16:44Speaker 1: seventeen years later now for including me in that cast
- 16:47Speaker 1: and pulling me into the fold. We get Sorry, Sorry,
- 16:52Speaker 1: I didn't mean that's okay, I was thinking about that
- 16:54Speaker 1: today too. I let's take a walk back here. I
- 16:57Speaker 1: had just finished a run of my West End debut
- 17:00Speaker 1: in London and Catnohats in Roof, and I came back
- 17:07Speaker 1: to LA and my former wife Afton and Krista Miller
- 17:11Speaker 1: are longtime friends, and I had not met Bill before,
- 17:15Speaker 1: but I did get on the phone with him, and
- 17:18Speaker 1: I recall saying something like he's asking, how you doing.
- 17:21Speaker 1: We want you to come and do this. I let
- 17:24Speaker 1: me see the script. I mentioned something about feeling a
- 17:28Speaker 1: little tired or jet lagged or I needed to get
- 17:31Speaker 1: back to the gym, and he said, all right, well
- 17:33Speaker 1: I'll send it over. So he sent the script over,
- 17:35Speaker 1: and he sent a bunch of gym shorts. And then
- 17:39Speaker 1: I mean like nice ones too, So I thought, all right,
- 17:45Speaker 1: I mean when one man sends another man his shorts,
- 17:51Speaker 1: there is no other love. You know, when you're trying
- 17:53Speaker 1: to get an actor to do something, there's always the
- 17:55Speaker 1: go to thing, which is write a nice letter. But
- 17:57Speaker 1: I'm gonna take I'm gonna take Bill's Q on this
- 18:00Speaker 1: and get more creative. He sent you a clothing. Well,
- 18:03Speaker 1: he just showed he was listening. Listen man, I'm tired.
- 18:06Speaker 1: I gotta get back to the gym. Let me help
- 18:08Speaker 1: you out. You're some shorts and the script that's true.
- 18:12Speaker 1: Are you are you in town right now or are
- 18:15Speaker 1: you out of town? I know you're doing uh that
- 18:17Speaker 1: the show, the superhero show, Doom Patrol, Doom Patrol, Superhero Guy.
- 18:25Speaker 1: I was just watching the trailer for season two where
- 18:27Speaker 1: you guys are miniaturized and everything like that. I'm very
- 18:31Speaker 1: excited for it. I was really excited when the show started.
- 18:34Speaker 1: I was actually I watched Titans and then when they
- 18:37Speaker 1: introduced Doom Patrol through Titans and Beast Boy, I was
- 18:42Speaker 1: really excited to watch the show. And the cast is phenomenal.
- 18:45Speaker 1: You got such a really dope cast, you Matt Bonner,
- 18:48Speaker 1: Uh what's his name? Uh? Timothy Dalton. Like it's a
- 18:51Speaker 1: sick cast, dude, Dian Guerrero, Ippa Bulby Season two, Let's
- 18:56Speaker 1: get out of the way, June twenty fifth on HBO.
- 18:59Speaker 1: Man the New One, check it out. So hey, Donald,
- 19:03Speaker 1: did you actually watch the read the comics before? I mean,
- 19:08Speaker 1: this is the first time my live action thing has
- 19:09Speaker 1: been No. No, I had not read the comic before,
- 19:13Speaker 1: but I knew it existed, but I had I had never.
- 19:16Speaker 1: I had never just because it's really an obscure property.
- 19:19Speaker 1: It was really kind of it was orphaned. It was
- 19:20Speaker 1: done like seven different incarnations on Real Prince. Yeah, and
- 19:25Speaker 1: they didn't they killed everybody off at one point they
- 19:27Speaker 1: brought them all back um and then Grant Morrison did
- 19:31Speaker 1: the run that this that inspired the show. So it
- 19:35Speaker 1: the words surreal gets bandied about very much in the
- 19:38Speaker 1: way we speak, but it actually borrowed from Dadaism, and
- 19:42Speaker 1: you know that what Dolly was up about surrealism in
- 19:45Speaker 1: the way that the show's inspired. A lot of the
- 19:48Speaker 1: set pieces are direct key art from um the graphic
- 19:52Speaker 1: novels Wow and It and It, and it did keep
- 19:55Speaker 1: the sense of I don't know if I want to
- 19:59Speaker 1: call it it's people like to say dark where it's serious.
- 20:04Speaker 1: I think it just didn't. It doesn't. It doesn't shy
- 20:07Speaker 1: away from going to the places that motivate brooding superhero
- 20:13Speaker 1: character is explaining really why, and often in white knuckle detail.
- 20:20Speaker 1: So you guys, you guys do you guys are very
- 20:23Speaker 1: It's a very I would say it is a dark show,
- 20:26Speaker 1: like each and every one of your origins comes from
- 20:28Speaker 1: a dark place. You know what I mean, just from
- 20:31Speaker 1: your character alone. Your character was a race car driver
- 20:34Speaker 1: who was who was like, you know, cheated on his
- 20:37Speaker 1: wife and really didn't give a shit about anybody but
- 20:39Speaker 1: his daughter, you know what I mean. And yeah, and
- 20:42Speaker 1: he was I don't think he won all those races
- 20:44Speaker 1: fair and square either to right. Just a bad, bad dude.
- 20:49Speaker 1: And he dies and gets put into a robot, and
- 20:52Speaker 1: he's led to believe that his daughter is I don't
- 20:55Speaker 1: want to spoil the show. He's dead. There, I said it.
- 20:59Speaker 1: He's and and so's he's struggling to reconcile how to
- 21:03Speaker 1: be a better man, except now he's trapped in this
- 21:11Speaker 1: steampunk robot body. And strangely, he's a better human being
- 21:16Speaker 1: as a robot than he was as a man. Right, right, right,
- 21:21Speaker 1: and and and he's there for his teammates. He's like
- 21:24Speaker 1: in every episode, he's the one character who's there for
- 21:28Speaker 1: his teammates. He's there for the girl with all the
- 21:31Speaker 1: personalities he's there for that's Crazy Jane, as she's known,
- 21:36Speaker 1: with her sixty four different personalities the year all but
- 21:38Speaker 1: superpowers too. That's a superpower, that's dope. You could sixty
- 21:43Speaker 1: four different powers. That's pretty dope anyway, Brendan, did you
- 21:48Speaker 1: read um comic books when you were a kid? I
- 21:51Speaker 1: had an anthology of Superman. I tried to get into
- 21:57Speaker 1: Batman because all the cool kids did then. And I
- 22:01Speaker 1: gotta be honest with you, they kind of think they
- 22:03Speaker 1: were formidable, and they sort of scared me a little bit,
- 22:06Speaker 1: like it was like listening to heavy metal music and
- 22:10Speaker 1: you're not ready for it to me. And and so,
- 22:14Speaker 1: I mean, I like them, for sure, but my speed
- 22:18Speaker 1: was more like Dennis the Menace and Richie rich Yeah.
- 22:22Speaker 1: I would read Archie, Little Archie, Yeah, little Archie. Look yeah,
- 22:27Speaker 1: So I guess in short, no, not really. But then
- 22:29Speaker 1: I mean when this came along, um, it's kind of
- 22:33Speaker 1: a yeah, I would want to be at part of
- 22:35Speaker 1: this because I'm not sure if if risks like this
- 22:39Speaker 1: get taken that frequently. And I'm no aficionado you know,
- 22:42Speaker 1: in a world of comics and that kind of thing,
- 22:43Speaker 1: but I know that it's, um, it's a piece. And
- 22:47Speaker 1: Donald just touched on this. That's like everyone comes from
- 22:50Speaker 1: some horrible accident that occurred to them prior to them
- 22:54Speaker 1: being introduced to its audience, our audience, and that's the
- 22:57Speaker 1: reason why that they have to build better lives through it.
- 23:00Speaker 1: Although they bicker with one another and they hate one another,
- 23:02Speaker 1: but they can't be a part and they don't function
- 23:05Speaker 1: without one another. Kind of like Scrubs, I should say, Yeah, yeah,
- 23:09Speaker 1: the very theme song is I can't do this all
- 23:11Speaker 1: on my own, and yeah, it's about the camaraderie. You know,
- 23:18Speaker 1: you had the most epic career. I was just scrolling
- 23:21Speaker 1: your IMDb page just before you came on because I
- 23:23Speaker 1: wanted to just kind of glance at everything. I mean,
- 23:26Speaker 1: you have the kind of career that actor's dream of having.
- 23:29Speaker 1: You from from really cool artistic indies to the biggest
- 23:33Speaker 1: tent pole movies ever. I mean, do you when you
- 23:39Speaker 1: look back on things, is there is there a favorite
- 23:42Speaker 1: or is it all kind of like I mean for us,
- 23:44Speaker 1: I mean Donald and I look back at Scrubs. We
- 23:46Speaker 1: haven't had the fraction of the career you've had, but
- 23:48Speaker 1: I mean we look back and go, Okay, We've had
- 23:50Speaker 1: lots of fun experiences, but Scrubs was like one of
- 23:51Speaker 1: the best experiences of our lives. Is there a project
- 23:53Speaker 1: that you look back on that and go, you know,
- 23:55Speaker 1: I've done a lot of cool things, but this one
- 23:57Speaker 1: in particular was like, holy shit, that changed my life
- 23:59Speaker 1: or this or if I had to like name something
- 24:03Speaker 1: that really changed my life for better or worse, I'd
- 24:06Speaker 1: have to say it was around two thousand or sorry,
- 24:09Speaker 1: in like nineteen ninety nine, it was the Mummy pictures.
- 24:11Speaker 1: Everybody saw those, I mean, and still they have a residence.
- 24:15Speaker 1: I guess it's just, you know, my dumb luck that
- 24:18Speaker 1: the the lore of an Egyptian mummy wrapped up for
- 24:24Speaker 1: several thousand years looking for his girlfriend is an enduring
- 24:26Speaker 1: theme that we just love to do in over and
- 24:29Speaker 1: over and over again. So you know, I had that that,
- 24:32Speaker 1: I had that going for it. But um, if I
- 24:35Speaker 1: think of a filmler that that made me feel like
- 24:40Speaker 1: it changed. I worked with I worked with Michael Caine
- 24:45Speaker 1: in Vietnam on a picture called The Quiet American and
- 24:48Speaker 1: it was a pretty good adaptation. Um. Christopher Hampton wrote it,
- 24:55Speaker 1: um of the of the novel UM. And we shot
- 24:59Speaker 1: in Vietnam, and at that time no Western film had
- 25:05Speaker 1: been made in Vietnam. I mean, if you saw a
- 25:07Speaker 1: movie that was a war picture or something, it was
- 25:09Speaker 1: in Malaysia or Thailand or doubled somewhere else in specific
- 25:12Speaker 1: for the Jungles, but we had the good fortune and
- 25:18Speaker 1: to actually be there, and it was exciting for the
- 25:22Speaker 1: reasons that it really pushed back at as the novel
- 25:28Speaker 1: did that American foreign policy was, you know, blessed in
- 25:33Speaker 1: the world. And the reality is, no, it's not. The
- 25:40Speaker 1: The picture itself, I can say confidently, was put on
- 25:45Speaker 1: the chopping block by Miramax when it came out September
- 25:49Speaker 1: eleventh had transpired it and in the I don't even
- 25:55Speaker 1: want to say his name, but the boss of that
- 25:56Speaker 1: company said, I don't want to do anything wrong for
- 25:58Speaker 1: the American people, and we never really knew what that meant.
- 26:02Speaker 1: And Michael took the picture to Toronto International Film Festival
- 26:08Speaker 1: and gave it in an audience there, and that's when
- 26:12Speaker 1: it UM really started to take off. In the Washington
- 26:16Speaker 1: Post wrote a piece called let the Quiet Americans Speak
- 26:20Speaker 1: and UM, you know, in other words, you don't need
- 26:24Speaker 1: to sugarcoat this. You don't have to treat us like children.
- 26:29Speaker 1: We should know. I mean, these are things that that
- 26:32Speaker 1: we do have to discuss. That UM has not changed
- 26:37Speaker 1: then and it had it can't change now. I mean,
- 26:40Speaker 1: so to be a part of that. UM, I guess
- 26:45Speaker 1: I felt I was in UM in good company, and UM,
- 26:51Speaker 1: I felt like I had a chance to be a
- 26:55Speaker 1: part of a picture that would, you know, in its
- 26:57Speaker 1: own way change the world. Now, movies do or they don't,
- 27:00Speaker 1: and that's the hope in the aspiration. But it did
- 27:03Speaker 1: fulfill something for me that UM was was meaningful. And
- 27:09Speaker 1: if it didn't find its audience at that time, UM,
- 27:13Speaker 1: there's always the notion of feeling that it will do
- 27:15Speaker 1: in the future. And well, I think, up, you can
- 27:18Speaker 1: have a lot of people watching it now because it's
- 27:21Speaker 1: it's one of yours. I haven't seen and I'm definitely
- 27:23Speaker 1: curious and uh, and we have a handful of people
- 27:25Speaker 1: listening to this. I'm sure we'll check it out. I
- 27:27Speaker 1: loved one of your early film school ties was Yeah,
- 27:30Speaker 1: I was about to say that, oh man, that movie
- 27:32Speaker 1: hit me at the right age, man and I especially
- 27:34Speaker 1: being a young Jewish man that you of course, and
- 27:37Speaker 1: we didn't and I didn't feel like I looked like Brendan,
- 27:39Speaker 1: you know. I was like, there, I am, look at
- 27:41Speaker 1: our handsome mind being represented. But but but I mean
- 27:45Speaker 1: your performance in that movie as as a young actor,
- 27:47Speaker 1: I mean, I think everyone in the world was like,
- 27:49Speaker 1: you know, everyone who loves movies was like, oh shit,
- 27:51Speaker 1: look at this new guy. I thought, you really really
- 27:54Speaker 1: were great in that movie. Well thanks. It was sort
- 27:57Speaker 1: of the diner casting. Yeah, it's day in a way,
- 28:02Speaker 1: Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, the list is ridiculous, So many people,
- 28:12Speaker 1: Anthony Raps ridiculous. We um at that time had no
- 28:19Speaker 1: idea what we were doing. We had an abundance of enthusiasm.
- 28:22Speaker 1: Probably the most important thing to us is getting the
- 28:25Speaker 1: producer to provide us breakfast in the morning before we
- 28:27Speaker 1: had to play football all day, although they did not,
- 28:30Speaker 1: you know, I mean and and still at that time,
- 28:33Speaker 1: I look at it and I think, I don't I
- 28:35Speaker 1: really don't know that much about that guy anymore. You know,
- 28:39Speaker 1: I just see, um, I see I see a cast
- 28:45Speaker 1: very hopeful. But but at the same time we all
- 28:47Speaker 1: have this sort of tenuous is this kind of feelings
- 28:50Speaker 1: as you do when you're first starting out in this industry. Yeah,
- 28:54Speaker 1: um so. But for that rather than you know, turning inward,
- 29:00Speaker 1: we just swung for the fences and hope for the best,
- 29:02Speaker 1: for for whatever the film would would result. And well
- 29:06Speaker 1: it was. It was really great. Donald and I both
- 29:10Speaker 1: remember that film. Finally, we've talked about it before. And Donald,
- 29:13Speaker 1: you also began your career in a football film. Yeah,
- 29:17Speaker 1: I did. It was called Remember the Titans. Have you
- 29:19Speaker 1: watched it yet? No, it's all my to do. Listen,
- 29:23Speaker 1: I'm gonna watcheman. These are that's fine, and and that's fine,
- 29:27Speaker 1: but these are the issues that I'm having. Now. Let
- 29:29Speaker 1: me tell you what happens. Don't fight in front of
- 29:31Speaker 1: our guests, don't fight in front of company. Let me finish,
- 29:34Speaker 1: Let me finish. Is this because is this because I
- 29:39Speaker 1: didn't read Garden State when you Yes, that's one of
- 29:42Speaker 1: the reasons. I was in the shower and I was thinking,
- 29:44Speaker 1: you know, I've done some projects and Zach's never seen
- 29:48Speaker 1: any of them. No, I've seen a lot of them.
- 29:50Speaker 1: You've seen, dude. You was the movie You win where
- 29:53Speaker 1: where the famous rapper was a postman was a It's
- 30:00Speaker 1: called Next Day. First of all, it was Next Day Air. Yeah,
- 30:02Speaker 1: I second all. The only reason why you saw Next
- 30:05Speaker 1: Day airs because I invited you over for screening at
- 30:07Speaker 1: my house with all the producers, and oh boy, who
- 30:11Speaker 1: is the rapper? I forgot? He was really good? Most
- 30:13Speaker 1: deaf man the most Def is a good actor. He
- 30:16Speaker 1: did a good job in that movie. I worked with
- 30:18Speaker 1: most Demost. I worked with most Deff once in a
- 30:23Speaker 1: really obscure movie that shot and saw Paula Brazil. It
- 30:26Speaker 1: was called Journey to the End of the Night, and
- 30:29Speaker 1: he played a Nigerian dishwasher who gets roped into running
- 30:34Speaker 1: a huge suitcase of cocaine in this sort of impossible
- 30:40Speaker 1: scenario that he just can't win from. He was so good,
- 30:43Speaker 1: I mean he was what was the name of the movie,
- 30:45Speaker 1: Journey to the End of the Night? Journey scene Bay
- 30:51Speaker 1: in Journey to the End of the Night. I'm gonna
- 30:54Speaker 1: watch that too, So sorry, but Titans got moved down
- 30:56Speaker 1: another rung because I had two more films. Let me
- 30:59Speaker 1: tell you what happened in my house? You have dinner,
- 31:02Speaker 1: you get what are we gonna watch tonight? Right? I
- 31:04Speaker 1: don't know if this happened dayson, and remember the Titans. Now,
- 31:06Speaker 1: let me tell you, I just want to know if
- 31:07Speaker 1: this happens in either any of your houses. You have
- 31:10Speaker 1: a list of like one thousand classics you want to watch.
- 31:13Speaker 1: You have a list of like your friends movies you
- 31:15Speaker 1: want to watch. You got a list of movies you
- 31:17Speaker 1: read online that everyone's talking about, and then you get
- 31:20Speaker 1: on there and you're tired and you had a glass
- 31:23Speaker 1: of wine and you like and it's HGTV time. Yeah, right,
- 31:27Speaker 1: Top Chef, Top Chef. I watched Top Chef. Listen, I
- 31:34Speaker 1: could be a cook now because I watched so much
- 31:36Speaker 1: Top Chef. Hold on. You said it's friend movies that
- 31:39Speaker 1: your friends are in, and you look at the classics
- 31:41Speaker 1: and everything like that. Dude, you can knock two out
- 31:43Speaker 1: with one stone. It's a motherfucking classic one two. Your
- 31:47Speaker 1: friend is in it. So dude, let's get to the
- 31:50Speaker 1: what are we waiting? We're gonna do it. I'm right
- 31:51Speaker 1: after quiet American, I'm gonna do it. Um all right,
- 31:55Speaker 1: I promise you this is a commitment. You're lying, but okay,
- 31:58Speaker 1: you've been saying this for years. I just want you
- 31:59Speaker 1: to know that for years. Listen, don't go ahead. We
- 32:03Speaker 1: don't have Brendan forever because he has to feed his children.
- 32:07Speaker 1: So I want to move quickly. We're gonna take a
- 32:10Speaker 1: quick break and we're gona come back, and then we're
- 32:11Speaker 1: gonna go through the episode because I want to talk.
- 32:13Speaker 1: This episode has so much in it and Brendan. You
- 32:16Speaker 1: probably don't even know this, but there's so many things
- 32:18Speaker 1: in this particular episode that that became through lines for
- 32:21Speaker 1: the whole series, including when you pick me up and
- 32:24Speaker 1: I yelled eagle, Um the the a cappella group, Um,
- 32:30Speaker 1: Bob Zeltzer, you're a cancer doctor. All right, we'll be

- 36:41Speaker 1: we're back all right. So um, this episode is called
- 36:46Speaker 1: My Hero and it's the second of Brendan's three episodes
- 36:50Speaker 1: he did. Um, Brennan, did you know by the way
- 36:53Speaker 1: I knew you assumed you knew you were doing too?
- 36:55Speaker 1: But then what's the story of of you came back
- 36:59Speaker 1: in Nautil SS and three? Did? Did Bill? He couldn't
- 37:02Speaker 1: have possibly see, Hey, we're gonna build your character and
- 37:04Speaker 1: come back in two seasons or so? What how did
- 37:07Speaker 1: that come about? Yeah, I gotta I gotta Bill knows
- 37:10Speaker 1: the answer to that one. I mean, I had such
- 37:12Speaker 1: a great time with the to be continued to you know,
- 37:17Speaker 1: to hander right that came on in the first season
- 37:22Speaker 1: that I was in, and then when he called up
- 37:23Speaker 1: to do it again, I was like, absolutely all right,
- 37:26Speaker 1: you know you. It was because I had such a
- 37:28Speaker 1: great time work you guys right on you and you
- 37:30Speaker 1: and you brought something to the table that a lot
- 37:32Speaker 1: of that went on for a really long time. Also,
- 37:36Speaker 1: your camera when you brought your camera to look at this. Look,
- 37:41Speaker 1: Zach has a camera just like that. Now I'm holding
- 37:44Speaker 1: up I'm holding up my my Polaroid one ten A
- 37:47Speaker 1: that I would not have purchased without Brendan. So I
- 37:51Speaker 1: want you know, Brendon and I are both Brendan, Christa
- 37:54Speaker 1: Miller and I are all camera geeks. We all collect them.
- 37:58Speaker 1: But I was never into old polaroid camera until I
- 38:00Speaker 1: met Brendan and all. And if you guys are watching
- 38:02Speaker 1: the episode and you see him shooting all these polaroids,
- 38:05Speaker 1: they that was inspired by Brendan. Those are all his
- 38:08Speaker 1: pictures you're you're looking at. And I got so into
- 38:13Speaker 1: to polaroid photography because of you, Brendon, and I've free,
- 38:18Speaker 1: not like free for the twenty years since I've seen you.
- 38:21Speaker 1: I can't tell you how many different polaroid cameras I've
- 38:23Speaker 1: bought and collected. And Donald was saying on another podcast,
- 38:26Speaker 1: he goes, why do I have so many like professional
- 38:29Speaker 1: quality polaroids of myself? And I'm like, that's because of Brendan.
- 38:32Speaker 1: Because Chris and I both got so into it. We've
- 38:35Speaker 1: taken so many pictures of them, Yeah, sitting in a
- 38:39Speaker 1: closet or on the shelf right now. Because the film
- 38:41Speaker 1: is so hard to find, and you know you can
- 38:42Speaker 1: get it online, um um if you buy. I actually,
- 38:47Speaker 1: knowing that you were coming on, I haven't. I haven't
- 38:48Speaker 1: used it in a while, but knowing you were come on,
- 38:50Speaker 1: I was like looking online where I can find Fuji
- 38:52Speaker 1: still makes um the film extra good pack film impossible
- 38:57Speaker 1: projects another one, you know, yes, but for those of
- 38:59Speaker 1: men want to into this hobby food Fujif P. One
- 39:03Speaker 1: hundred is the go to, right, Brennan, that's like the
- 39:06Speaker 1: last one. Let me just geek out. I'll put my
- 39:08Speaker 1: glasses one one hundred. I just gave him a shout out.
- 39:19Speaker 1: There should be a sponsor, um so Brendan. When you
- 39:22Speaker 1: picked me up at one thirty three in this kid's room, now,
- 39:25Speaker 1: I can't imagine you even could could know this story,
- 39:28Speaker 1: but the fans I've watched eight seasons, no, when you
- 39:32Speaker 1: picked me up and spun me, the first thing I
- 39:35Speaker 1: say that made me laugh was I go faster, because
- 39:38Speaker 1: the whole the whole gag is the JD is such
- 39:40Speaker 1: a nerd that at first he's like no, no, no,
- 39:43Speaker 1: and then then he's like as a kid and I
- 39:45Speaker 1: and then you're spinning me. You're spinning me. And on
- 39:48Speaker 1: one last take, I thought, oh, the extra dorky if
- 39:51Speaker 1: JD pretended he was soaring like an eagle, And then
- 39:54Speaker 1: I just went eagle, which became bizarrely a huge runner
- 40:00Speaker 1: throughout the whole season. On a series of the show,
- 40:03Speaker 1: Don would pick me up and I'd yell eagle, and
- 40:05Speaker 1: it became a running thing. It became his what you're
- 40:08Speaker 1: talking about Willis. It became my what you're talking about?
- 40:10Speaker 1: It became my catchphrase. You you lifted me into my
- 40:14Speaker 1: It's like in dirty dancing doing the lift. You lifted
- 40:17Speaker 1: me into my catchphrase. Thank you, thanks very very much. Everywhere.
- 40:25Speaker 1: I particularly liked your shower shorts. If I remember, yes correctly,
- 40:30Speaker 1: the man for the man who has nothing to hide
- 40:32Speaker 1: but still wants to still want and it had did
- 40:35Speaker 1: have a wallet and then you hold it out, you
- 40:38Speaker 1: let it go and there's this sort of like sound
- 40:40Speaker 1: off camera and you just winced a bit. Yeah, exactly.
- 40:44Speaker 1: But I mean everywhere I go in my life, and
- 40:46Speaker 1: I've been traveled all around the world, Um, I will
- 40:49Speaker 1: have people yell eagle at me as I walk down
- 40:51Speaker 1: the street. It's forever, It's forever. Yeah, all because of
- 40:55Speaker 1: this moment and at one minute thirty eight and then
- 40:57Speaker 1: Christy goes for a spin. Yeah, Christa liked that. I
- 41:01Speaker 1: haven't feel like Krista wasn't too fond of the spot.
- 41:04Speaker 1: I bet she liked it because it was Brennan. If
- 41:06Speaker 1: it was anybody else, she would have been like, there's
- 41:10Speaker 1: no way, I can't imagine a Bill writing an episode.
- 41:13Speaker 1: If Bill put any other character picks up Christa and
- 41:16Speaker 1: spins her. She would have been like, no no no
- 41:18Speaker 1: no no no no no no no no no no no.
- 41:24Speaker 1: Tangle in my giblets. I laughed out loud at that.
- 41:28Speaker 1: I don't like too much freedom now there. It makes
- 41:30Speaker 1: me tingle in my giblets. I think I may have
- 41:35Speaker 1: made that one up because I don't think Bill would
- 41:36Speaker 1: have written giblets. But um, Brennan, you found a way
- 41:40Speaker 1: with this character to bring out something. You know, Johnny
- 41:45Speaker 1: C had yet to really warm up to anybody. He's
- 41:48Speaker 1: his character, Doctor Cox is playing. He's such a tough
- 41:51Speaker 1: alpha guy. And then with your character, we see the
- 41:56Speaker 1: friendship that that that JD and Turke have mirrored a bit.
- 41:59Speaker 1: We um, oh, there is a guy out there who's
- 42:03Speaker 1: silly and who's goofy and is and is out there
- 42:06Speaker 1: who's kind of like um his JD. If you, if
- 42:10Speaker 1: you will, do you know what I mean? Like you
- 42:12Speaker 1: you you brought out the silly side of a guy
- 42:15Speaker 1: the audience is only known as someone who's so serious
- 42:18Speaker 1: and agro right he was and just just like Johnny C.
- 42:25Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, yeah, although Johnny's a smidgen nicer, right, absolute Yeah,
- 42:36Speaker 1: did you know Johnny before this? Had you guys worked together?
- 42:38Speaker 1: We No, we had not met before. I had seen
- 42:40Speaker 1: him in films that he'd made, and but I think
- 42:45Speaker 1: I met him on the day tell you the truth.
- 42:47Speaker 1: The day. Uh there was a nail in my hand, yeah,
- 42:51Speaker 1: a board right, Yeah, remember that was the first episode
- 42:54Speaker 1: before this one. Correctly, I think we met like maybe
- 42:56Speaker 1: three minutes earlier than that. Wow. Wow, it's because he
- 43:00Speaker 1: doesn't take much time in the makeup chair. I learned.
- 43:02Speaker 1: He just kind of walks in, scrubs his head, yeah,
- 43:07Speaker 1: and then makes like these sort of animal grunt noises. Yeah,
- 43:10Speaker 1: puts product in it and does it again, and then
- 43:13Speaker 1: like does like elaborate clicking and snapping or his fingers
- 43:19Speaker 1: and then he takes off. He's good to go. I
- 43:22Speaker 1: had to show up, like, you know, an hour early
- 43:25Speaker 1: with Christa, so we could you know, get our Strand
- 43:27Speaker 1: by strand done just perfect? Yeah? Do you? Donald went through?
- 43:38Speaker 1: Donald went through Donald. Colin Farrell was on the show,
- 43:40Speaker 1: and I think it was him, right, Donald, you didn't
- 43:42Speaker 1: want any makeup and uh, you know, because he looks
- 43:45Speaker 1: like Colin Farrell. And then Donald was like, you know what,
- 43:47Speaker 1: I'm gonna start doing that. I don't need makeup either.
- 43:49Speaker 1: If it's good enough for Colin Farrell is good enough. Yeah,
- 43:52Speaker 1: and Donald Donald was like showing off like I don't
- 43:54Speaker 1: even make up either, and then like, oh, we did
- 43:55Speaker 1: one episode and the next week that I was like,
- 43:57Speaker 1: I'm gonna go back to the makeup. I'm gonna go
- 43:58Speaker 1: back to Uh speaking of makeup, is that you in
- 44:04Speaker 1: in the in the costume all the time or do
- 44:08Speaker 1: they have a stand in for you or do you
- 44:10Speaker 1: have to do makeup every day like that? Which costume?
- 44:14Speaker 1: Which I've had a lot of weird ones, and I've
- 44:16Speaker 1: had some that were at all Oh for do Patrol.
- 44:19Speaker 1: Oh no, that's voiced by Riley shan I mean I'm
- 44:21Speaker 1: voicing the character. Riley Shanahan wears the suit. Um. He
- 44:26Speaker 1: is a wonderful comedic performer with fantastic timing. Um, and
- 44:32Speaker 1: he's full on playing the character through a mask. Yeah.
- 44:36Speaker 1: Um and uh he uh he does the heavy lifting there.
- 44:41Speaker 1: I mean I show up in an episode or two
- 44:43Speaker 1: wearing pieces of that because, like I said, it borrow,
- 44:46Speaker 1: it breaks a lot of rules and makes its own
- 44:48Speaker 1: the way the show unfolds. But otherwise, no, I'm it's like,
- 44:52Speaker 1: I gotta, I gotta, I gotta be clear with you.
- 44:54Speaker 1: It's like it's like a dream job somebody else wears
- 44:56Speaker 1: the thing shows up for you in recent and so
- 45:00Speaker 1: I don't even go inside the studio like we all thought.
- 45:02Speaker 1: You're sitting in your closet right now, I've been doing
- 45:04Speaker 1: a d R on a cell phone. It's it's it's
- 45:08Speaker 1: weird day. It's weird days for a business. But on
- 45:09Speaker 1: the other hand, like, don't tell anybody this is actually
- 45:13Speaker 1: I think that's the case. I'm not wearing pants. I
- 45:17Speaker 1: think that's the case with I think it's the case
- 45:20Speaker 1: with Mandalorian too. Um, you know, because that's all stuntman, right, yes, yeah, yeah,
- 45:28Speaker 1: so I mean it not to talk about it, though,
- 45:31Speaker 1: do they do The producers want you to be like, no,
- 45:34Speaker 1: Brennan's in the suit. No, no way, I would never
- 45:36Speaker 1: do that. That's not fair to Riley. And I mean,
- 45:38Speaker 1: and I'm fifty one. Now, this this guy is like
- 45:42Speaker 1: built like a tree, and that thing is that those
- 45:45Speaker 1: robot suits and all that all that, like you know
- 45:48Speaker 1: DC Comic and Marvel Comic, those outfitial supersuits. They're heavy. Yeah,
- 45:52Speaker 1: they are superformers are really unsung heroes. I worked with
- 45:57Speaker 1: many of them. I worked with them on On. I'll
- 45:59Speaker 1: say that's idols. George of the Jungle. The guys in
- 46:01Speaker 1: the Guerrilla Suits are amazing. They're there. I mean, they
- 46:05Speaker 1: they really take Sidney and behavior seriously and uh, I
- 46:09Speaker 1: mean it's a it's a thing back comedy. But at
- 46:11Speaker 1: the same time, no, they were. They were quite specific
- 46:14Speaker 1: about what they needed and how they would move as
- 46:15Speaker 1: a troop and yeah, yeah, I mean, can you tell
- 46:18Speaker 1: Donald and I how to get in that kind of shape? Um,
- 46:20Speaker 1: if we ever wanted to try, because you're pretty ripped
- 46:24Speaker 1: in that movie. Yeah, go back in time and eat
- 46:26Speaker 1: nothing but like broccoli and styrofoam, lift weights until you puke. Yeah,
- 46:34Speaker 1: and then go wash your mouth out and keep doing it.
- 46:37Speaker 1: I was once in the gym and a gym and uh,
- 46:40Speaker 1: and Arnold Schwartzeninger walked into the gym to sort of
- 46:42Speaker 1: inspect it. I guess his friend owned it or something.
- 46:45Speaker 1: And he he was still the governor, and he walked
- 46:48Speaker 1: over to me. Um on the I was on one
- 46:51Speaker 1: of the benches and uh, I don't know if he
- 46:54Speaker 1: recognized me as an actor or if he was just
- 46:55Speaker 1: sort of like talking to me as a citizen, like hello,
- 46:59Speaker 1: what's your goals with your workout? And I was I
- 47:03Speaker 1: was so starstruck, and I was like, uh oh um um, well,
- 47:07Speaker 1: I guess I just kind of want to look like
- 47:08Speaker 1: Brad Pitton fight Club. And he goes and he goes,
- 47:11Speaker 1: you need to eat a lot of carrots. That's all carrots.
- 47:17Speaker 1: So for like the next two months, I was just
- 47:19Speaker 1: like fucking pounding carrots and it never get ripped. No,
- 47:23Speaker 1: I mean it never happened and never was like I
- 47:25Speaker 1: never Brad Pitt in Fight Club Orange. He definitely got orange,
- 47:30Speaker 1: that's for sure. He eats a lot of carrots and
- 47:34Speaker 1: then he just moved on to somebody else. You hit
- 47:37Speaker 1: a lot of broccoli, you you eat a lot of
- 47:41Speaker 1: comquats and you eat to squash you. He's just he's
- 47:46Speaker 1: walking around to each version in the gymming for you,
- 47:48Speaker 1: broccoli for you piece? How long would you train? How
- 47:56Speaker 1: long we when? How long would you train for something
- 47:58Speaker 1: like that? I mean the mummy too. I mean, I
- 47:59Speaker 1: know you're in sick shape, Like did you did you?
- 48:01Speaker 1: Would you go through big training period? Yeah? I think
- 48:04Speaker 1: I recall it was I mean, all in it's like
- 48:06Speaker 1: a year if you're gonna you know, and then you
- 48:09Speaker 1: do maintenance and blah blah. But um, you know, I
- 48:16Speaker 1: I haven't asked about this frequently over the years, and
- 48:19Speaker 1: I really don't know the answer because everyone's body is
- 48:21Speaker 1: so different and I almost feel a reticent to say, well,
- 48:23Speaker 1: this is what I did, because then people want to
- 48:25Speaker 1: emulate or do that and it might not be right
- 48:27Speaker 1: for them. But I guess if i'd be honest, it's
- 48:31Speaker 1: just just just just get it over with and lift weights,
- 48:37Speaker 1: I guess if. But the thing is if there's wear
- 48:39Speaker 1: and tear on your joints, your spine. I became really
- 48:43Speaker 1: proficient with ice bags, like really talk about nerdy camera geek.
- 48:48Speaker 1: I was like nerdy ice cube geek. And um, and uh,
- 48:54Speaker 1: you know, it's a lot to keep it's a lot
- 48:56Speaker 1: to keep up. It's a lot to ask of your body.
- 48:58Speaker 1: And I I have to say with confidence that I
- 49:02Speaker 1: felt a sense of relief when it wasn't something that
- 49:06Speaker 1: was expected of me, that wasn't exactly what you know,
- 49:09Speaker 1: I'm known for. Or I was happy to say that
- 49:14Speaker 1: someone else's job right now, you know, like um and uh,
- 49:19Speaker 1: and just you know, pound back the milkshakes. Yeah, yeah,
- 49:23Speaker 1: and focus on. Paul Rudd said something very similar to me.
- 49:26Speaker 1: He was like, you know, I felt great when I
- 49:28Speaker 1: was doing it. But I'm gonna tell you something right now,
- 49:32Speaker 1: I'd love to drink a milkshake right now, I'd like something,
- 49:35Speaker 1: you know what I mean, Like, You're absolutely right. It's
- 49:37Speaker 1: like when you're doing it, you feel great and there's
- 49:39Speaker 1: a purpose. Somebody's paying you a lot of money to
- 49:41Speaker 1: do this stuff, but really, you know, living is a
- 49:45Speaker 1: lot of fun too, And you know, I gotta say
- 49:49Speaker 1: something psychologically, if I'm honest, I can look at those
- 49:53Speaker 1: images now and think I see a guy who is
- 49:58Speaker 1: still and secure, who still felt like a certain part
- 50:02Speaker 1: of your body didn't look the proportion that you were
- 50:05Speaker 1: hoping for. Or I learned from that that our self
- 50:10Speaker 1: image is just really um tied up with a single thing,
- 50:15Speaker 1: and that's confidence. If you have that, it doesn't matter
- 50:19Speaker 1: how often you go to a gym or don't go
- 50:22Speaker 1: to a gym. I really learned that it's about the
- 50:25Speaker 1: person who you are and the rest is just decoration. Yeah.
- 50:29Speaker 1: Oh I wish I you know, I wish I had
- 50:32Speaker 1: that confidence when I go places like the beach and
- 50:35Speaker 1: stuff like that, Like I feel great in my skin
- 50:38Speaker 1: at home, I could prance around naked in front of
- 50:40Speaker 1: my wife and stuff like that, and I'm confident that I,
- 50:44Speaker 1: you know, I still feel I still feel and look
- 50:47Speaker 1: sexy to her. When you go to the beach, though,
- 50:49Speaker 1: and there's a and there's a you know, stigmatism on
- 50:54Speaker 1: how everybody's supposed to look and you don't necessarily fit
- 50:57Speaker 1: that type. It's like, wait a second, you know I
- 51:00Speaker 1: don't necessarily want to take my shirt off and jump
- 51:02Speaker 1: into the water, now, you know what I mean? I have,
- 51:04Speaker 1: I have. I have real issues when it comes to that. Um.
- 51:08Speaker 1: I remember working so hard to get in shape and
- 51:11Speaker 1: look a certain way, you know, when, just like you said,
- 51:16Speaker 1: when it was time for the big reveal, I felt
- 51:18Speaker 1: like I didn't reach my goal, you know what I mean.
- 51:21Speaker 1: Then I look back at it now and I'm like,
- 51:22Speaker 1: holy shit, I looked right bad, Like holy look at that,
- 51:28Speaker 1: But it never back. I remember we talked about this
- 51:31Speaker 1: on the podcast. I just wish I could have been
- 51:33Speaker 1: present when I you know what I mean, Like there
- 51:37Speaker 1: were so many things on my mind when all the
- 51:39Speaker 1: projects that I've made before I wish I could have
- 51:42Speaker 1: just been it, just experienced every moment, and I didn't.
- 51:46Speaker 1: I was too worried about this or too interested in
- 51:49Speaker 1: something else to really focus on, you know. And now
- 51:54Speaker 1: the age that we live in, everybody has a camera
- 51:58Speaker 1: right in their pocket, and we're all privy to one
- 52:00Speaker 1: another physiques, and it's you know, it's a it's a
- 52:04Speaker 1: it's a it's a macabre pastime that is available to everyone.
- 52:10Speaker 1: And you know, depending on where you are in the world,
- 52:14Speaker 1: what country, part of the country. Somewhere in the back
- 52:16Speaker 1: of my mind, I always wonder, is there's somebody with
- 52:19Speaker 1: a long lens, you know, they're a sniper. Where are you? Yeah?
- 52:25Speaker 1: Did you happened a lot in La? For sure? But
- 52:28Speaker 1: gout of La? Is that one of the like tell
- 52:30Speaker 1: us a little bit about relief? I mean for that
- 52:33Speaker 1: reason alone that you know, because it's it's uh, it's
- 52:36Speaker 1: a place, that's that's that's that's myopic in that sense.
- 52:40Speaker 1: And you know, with distance you can get some perspective um,
- 52:45Speaker 1: which was which was helpful to me. Yeah, for sure.
- 52:48Speaker 1: You know, my wife always says She'll say something to me, like,
- 52:52Speaker 1: you know, I'm just bigger than everybody, and I'm like
- 52:56Speaker 1: in LA. I mean, you're bigger than everybody in LA.
- 53:02Speaker 1: And you go any place else and people would be like,
- 53:05Speaker 1: damn girl, either sandwich or something, you know what I mean.
- 53:09Speaker 1: But I think it's good when actors get out of
- 53:13Speaker 1: New York in LA. I mean, you have to have
- 53:14Speaker 1: reached a certain level of stature in the business as
- 53:17Speaker 1: you have where you can kind of be anywhere you want. Um.
- 53:21Speaker 1: But um, I fantasize about that sometimes. I don't know
- 53:25Speaker 1: about you, Donald, about about being able to be somewhere
- 53:27Speaker 1: that's not h in the heart of the industry. I think, well, yeah,
- 53:31Speaker 1: you'd get more for your buck. First of all, you
- 53:33Speaker 1: get more, you know what I mean. The two million
- 53:36Speaker 1: dollars that you spend in Los Angeles gets you a
- 53:40Speaker 1: room with the window. You do that shit in Montana
- 53:42Speaker 1: and you got a ranch, you know what I mean.
- 53:44Speaker 1: Like that, it's a huge difference. I would I would
- 53:47Speaker 1: you know, I can't picture you on a ranch. Would
- 53:49Speaker 1: you like a ranch I could pick? I could pickure Listen,
- 53:51Speaker 1: I could picture myself in Yeah, I know, but wait, Donald,
- 53:56Speaker 1: this doesn't have to have animals on it. It just
- 53:58Speaker 1: needs to know. I never asked you this I never
- 54:01Speaker 1: asked you this. If you could live anywhere in the
- 54:03Speaker 1: country that's not a New York or LA and you
- 54:06Speaker 1: could have, you know, you could you know, money's no object.
- 54:09Speaker 1: I don't mean like some stupid epic mansion. I mean, like,
- 54:11Speaker 1: you know, you have all the money that you want
- 54:13Speaker 1: to spend. What would you choose? Would you choose the
- 54:15Speaker 1: Montana ranch or would you choose I don't know what.
- 54:19Speaker 1: I can't picture. I never asked you what you're what
- 54:21Speaker 1: that would be for you. I'm a city boy, so
- 54:24Speaker 1: I'd have to live in I'd have to find something.
- 54:26Speaker 1: I'd have to live in the city. But if I
- 54:28Speaker 1: if I could live any place, there's two places that
- 54:31Speaker 1: I would love to live. One Toronto. I love the
- 54:33Speaker 1: I love the city. It's one of my favorite cities
- 54:35Speaker 1: of all time. If I could live anywhere and have
- 54:39Speaker 1: and if money was no object, which it always is,
- 54:42Speaker 1: but if it wasn't an object, dude, I would live
- 54:44Speaker 1: somewhere in Toronto that was freaking, you know, wonderful and
- 54:49Speaker 1: great either there or I you know, I am a
- 54:53Speaker 1: huge fan of London. You know this. It's one of
- 54:56Speaker 1: my favorite cities. I do like that area. And you're
- 54:58Speaker 1: very popular there. You're like, you're like, you know, Denzel
- 55:02Speaker 1: Washington of the Kingdom. No, I disagree. There's people like
- 55:05Speaker 1: John Boyega. There are a bunch of people from the
- 55:09Speaker 1: United but they do love you, and the people that
- 55:15Speaker 1: are listening in the United Kingdom can attest to loving
- 55:18Speaker 1: Donald Faizon. All right, how about this. If y'all love
- 55:21Speaker 1: me in the United Kingdom like you love Denzel or
- 55:23Speaker 1: more than you love Denzel, hit me up on Twitter
- 55:26Speaker 1: and Instagram and say that shit. Yeah, I'm gonna send
- 55:29Speaker 1: it to Denzel and be like, in your face, Denzel,
- 55:31Speaker 1: let your face, let this let this week. I got
- 55:33Speaker 1: the UK on Locke. God, I got the UK on Locke.
- 55:37Speaker 1: You're gonna make Brendon have to pull out his earphones.
- 55:39Speaker 1: Don't yell with our guests. Sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, Um, Brendon,
- 55:43Speaker 1: I know you have to go. We don't want to
- 55:45Speaker 1: keep you longer than uh than we then we promised
- 55:47Speaker 1: we would, but we just wanted to really tell you
- 55:49Speaker 1: that we love you, and that the fans love you,
- 55:51Speaker 1: and that uh and then I hope, um, if you're
- 55:54Speaker 1: if you if this wasn't too horrible, I hope that
- 55:56Speaker 1: you'll come back when we when we get to season
- 55:58Speaker 1: three for the very special episode, because whenever fans talk
- 56:03Speaker 1: about their favorite episode, it's either that one or the
- 56:06Speaker 1: musical usually, right Donald, Yeah, absolutely, uh more more that
- 56:10Speaker 1: one though. That's everyone's. It seems like that's the universal
- 56:14Speaker 1: number one episode for all of the Scrubs fans. It's
- 56:18Speaker 1: rare that we get anything else. It's always the one
- 56:21Speaker 1: where where your character passes away and Cox has no
- 56:26Speaker 1: idea where he's at at the end. Well, you guys
- 56:29Speaker 1: are really kind and you were so kind to me then,
- 56:32Speaker 1: and I'm really grateful for that experience, and he means
- 56:37Speaker 1: a lot to me that people still are finding it
- 56:41Speaker 1: today and that that you included me on the show.
- 56:45Speaker 1: Thank you included you, dude. We were so happy that
- 56:47Speaker 1: you would do. I remember when we show, it's like,
- 56:51Speaker 1: holy shit, Yeah we got a real star. We got
- 56:55Speaker 1: a real star. We got it's like a fishing we
- 56:58Speaker 1: got one on the line. Thank you so much, And
- 57:03Speaker 1: everybody check out Doom Patrol. When is it? When is
- 57:05Speaker 1: the season? Two pm, June twenty five on HBO Max. Guys,
- 57:10Speaker 1: check it out? And Brendan, thank you so much. We
- 57:11Speaker 1: love you. We'll see by it now. Oh my God,
- 57:16Speaker 1: what a what a what a what a sweet human being? Huh?
- 57:19Speaker 1: That was so awesome, dude, I can't believe we had
- 57:21Speaker 1: him on. But he's just like his You know, these
- 57:24Speaker 1: people they just and you you're so happy when they're
- 57:27Speaker 1: coming to your life. They just had a glow peace
- 57:30Speaker 1: and kindness, you know. I even though we're over Zoom,
- 57:33Speaker 1: he's just he's just he's just fire hosting his heart
- 57:37Speaker 1: at you. You know what I mean. He's got that
- 57:38Speaker 1: et heart light. He's got the et heart light. You
- 57:42Speaker 1: said it better than I do. He's got an et
- 57:44Speaker 1: glowing heart light. You feel it, you feel it. I'm
- 57:47Speaker 1: glad that. I'm almost glad that he couldn't stay the
- 57:50Speaker 1: whole time because I was looking at all my notes
- 57:52Speaker 1: about Turning talking through the episode, and I'm like, I
- 57:54Speaker 1: don't want to bother Brendan by talking about doctor Zeltzer, right, Like,
- 58:00Speaker 1: if you have Brendon Brendan sitting there being like, I
- 58:02Speaker 1: don't I don't know anything about it. I don't want to.
- 58:04Speaker 1: I don't want to. I don't care that that that's
- 58:07Speaker 1: that's that. Rob had a big bit of medical jargon.
- 58:09Speaker 1: What the fuck do I go? A fuck? I gotta
- 58:11Speaker 1: go feed my kids. Well you did the whole we'd
- 58:13Speaker 1: skipped over the whole tony shalute situation. We're talking, go back,
- 58:16Speaker 1: go back. Now that Brendon's gone, I can relax, I
- 58:18Speaker 1: can breathe. I was so nervous. I wanted to do
- 58:20Speaker 1: a good job. Now now it's just me and now
- 58:22Speaker 1: it's just us four, I can I can talk about Zeltzer.
- 58:25Speaker 1: I can talk about anything. This whole tony salute thing.
- 58:28Speaker 1: This was before he started winning all the Emmy's, huh yeah,
- 58:31Speaker 1: before he started beating me every single time, beating you.
- 58:34Speaker 1: He beat everyone, dude, he beat everyone. I know what everyone? Okay, okay,
- 58:40Speaker 1: do you know what that's from? Do you know what
- 58:41Speaker 1: that's from? No, you never saw the professional oldman. Oh yeah,
- 58:47Speaker 1: of course with now that Gary, yeah, Gary Oldman and
- 58:50Speaker 1: the we've got him upstairs. What do you want? Bring me? Everyone? Everyone,
- 58:56Speaker 1: every I'm sorry. If you're listening to this podcast on earbuds,
- 59:04Speaker 1: I apologize. I will try and counterbalance it with this
- 59:06Speaker 1: soft podcast voice I have. You don't remember that? Do
- 59:10Speaker 1: you remember that S and L sketch where they were
- 59:12Speaker 1: doing like a It was like the sweaty Balls one
- 59:14Speaker 1: where they were doing, like yeah, but that was when
- 59:18Speaker 1: alcohol was the guest start. But the normal show was
- 59:20Speaker 1: like yes, they talked like this, that's fun, that's really fun. Oh,
- 59:23Speaker 1: it's great. The Ben and Jerry's ice cream flavor now
- 59:26Speaker 1: sweaty balls. H I want to see. It's like balls
- 59:29Speaker 1: of peat butter. Oh man, I was hoping, what's your
- 59:33Speaker 1: favorite Ben and Jerry's that we should try and get
- 59:34Speaker 1: them as a sponsor so we can get buckets of
- 59:36Speaker 1: free ice cream. Dude, Ben and Jerry's rocks. Yo, Ben, listen,
- 59:40Speaker 1: I will pay money for Ben and Jerry's from here
- 59:43Speaker 1: on out, especially after this whole the whole black Lives
- 59:47Speaker 1: Matter situation that's been going on, when they straight up said, yo,
- 59:52Speaker 1: black lives matter. Anyone say anything else, pretty much, go
- 59:56Speaker 1: fund yourself. Good for them. I I love it. By
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: the way, I'm not just saying that. I really I
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: can't have Ben and Jerry's in my house because I'll
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: just snort it like it's fucking cocaine. WHOA. We need
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: to have a conversation about issue. No, I'm just saying,
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: imagine that when people that have a coke problem, I
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: think a problem ice cream like you don't like you
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: don't snort your ice cream. Donald, It's only problem when
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: you get a particularly chunky flavor and that, like a
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: peanut butter pretzel, gets stuck in your nose. Oh my gosh.
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: I like Chubby Hubby a lot. Well, Daniel is freaking
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: out over there. He likes that too, Like no Play.
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: I can never find it, but it's my favorite flavor.
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: So I love Chubby. I like anything basically anything with
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: peanut butter, because I like peanut butter and chocolate in
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: my ice cream. I see that, I like, I'm gonna
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: be honest with you. I'm gonna be honest with you.
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: I don't eat a lot of Ben and Jerry's ice cream.
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: That is the honest to goodness. Is there another brand
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: that you would have the audacity to choose because we're
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: trying to get them to be our sponsors, so don't
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: find them. There isn't another brand that I would have
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: the our death that to choose. I'm just saying it
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: hasn't been something that I have been getting a lot of. Oh,
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: because you're trying to stay thin, but then you go
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: home and make the shit yourself. I prefer to make
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: my ice cream So if Ben and Jerry's wants to
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: become a sponsor and teach them up how to make
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: somebody's flavors. Yeah, so that's what Benjor is gonna do.
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: They're gonna come on and teach you how to make
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: their top secret ice cream. I wouldn't. I wouldn't. I
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: wouldn't give it away. I would keep it for myself.
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: There are a bunch of There are a bunch of
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: things that I wish the owners of the company would
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: be like, all right, look, we're just gonna give you
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: the recipe. Keep that shit to yourself, but you can
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: make it at home. Crispy Cream, Hello, teach me how
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: to make a donut. What about those salts Cure pancakes,
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: the salts Cure pancakes. Yeah, my restaurant in Los Angeles
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: donald them. Try I've never had your oh my bad. Oh. Yeah.
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: And then there's the salts Cure pancakes are very, very tasty.
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: But you know where I really like the pancakes is Dupars.
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: Dear du Pause. Listen, no, no, listen, no, you fuck
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: you fulf motherfucker. Hold on, goddamn it, hold on. I'm
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: now going back to my podcast voice. To counterbalance Donald's
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: loud voice. And then and then Mastros. If you could
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: teach me how to make that buttercake, Yo, that buttercake,
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: that buttercake, Masstros. You remember you remember Mastros where we
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: used to go for steak Night? Yeah? Yeah, do you
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: remember steak Night? I know you don't eat meat anymore,
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: but do you remember steak night? Of course we used
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: to legit, go to steak Night. It is the world's
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: best meat. It is such a treat. Are you going
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: a stag night? Yeah? Made that song up. I want
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: the world to know. That was another in addition to
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: our theme song with the help of Charlie Booth. A
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: Steak Night with no help from Charlie Booth is an
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: original song by Donald Fazon and I Were you going
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: a stag night? You gonna eat it right? Steak steak,
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: best meat steak. And then we did the fucking this
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: damp Brady Bunch dance. Yeah. Do you remember when the
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: Brady Bunch mu did there like would perform It's like
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: a band. Like in the later episodes, they became like
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: a band and that was their move. Like when it's
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: time to change, you've got to real range Shenna na
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: nana nanana yo meanana. What was happening at the time?
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: What was happening? Peter went through puberty? Remember, and he
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: went He was like, and if you remember that episode,
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: if you're old enough to remember, he was going through puberty,
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: and and he when he was singing his song and
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: was like, when it's time to change, you've got to
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: real range. And they were like, oh no, what are
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: we gonna do. Peter's going through puberty. What the fuck happened?
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: And all of a sudden, the Brady Bunch were in
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: a band, like out of nowhere. It was like season one,
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: The Brady Bunch Day having a hard time coming together
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: as a family. Season two, The Brady Bunch, They're going
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: to school now things are great. Season three they're in
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: a band like what. I don't know if it was
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: season three, I don't know either. I'm just guessing, but
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: out of nowhere all but it had to be. Can
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: you find out when how many seasons in the pretty
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: much became it's the same shit, Donald, it's jumping the shark.
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: It's like red haired Sam coming into different strokes. You
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: gotta shake shit up. They went to fucking Hawaii and
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: jumped the shark to remember the Hawaiian Well, of course
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: you remember. I mean, we'd use it in scrubs. We
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: gotta sell those tiki necklaces on our merch shop one day, yeah,
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: one day when I heartshits are our merch shop going Okay?
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: Someone said that, wait, can I fucking finish a sentence
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: for the listen for listen for the love of yahweh
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: sentence for? Someone told me um they had a good
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: merch idea oh that they thought when I mistakenly said
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: sports players instead of athletes, someone said, please pick a
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: T shirt that says sports players on it. I like that.
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: I'd wear the funk out of that sports players wish.
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: What's your last thing? Let's talk about Let's talk about
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: Ted's band. Man. That's okay, thank you, See man, this
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: is why I should I should just say what I
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: want to say, because now it looks like I'm jumping
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: on your coattails. That's what I wanted to talk about.
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: Let's talk about Ted's band. Okay. Ted's band is is
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: introduced in this episode. You get to see, um for
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: the second time, what a ridiculously beautiful voice our Sammy
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: Lloyd had, And it's so tragic to use the word had,
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: but it is accurate to say had he Um, this
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: was real. This was his friends, all his all those men,
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: those three men are his buddies, and they all sang
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: acapella with him. And so we gave them Bill gave
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: them jobs in the hospital and and formed an acaella group.
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: And as I read on scrubs wiki, Um, it was
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: originally supposed to be the Superman theme, but they couldn't
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: get the rights. Yes, so that's how Underdog came about.
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: I remember that would have made more sense because there's
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: a whole Superman motif, but they could, Sam, and we
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: can sing it on here because we're not gonna I
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: don't think we're get in trouble for it if we
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: will cut it out. But it was like three bullets
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: of speed left behind, two powerful trains turned around, one
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: able to leap buildings, tall, inner run all in one
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: single bound Superman Superman, where it is Superman, Superman, Superman
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: calling Superman human of Steve. These lyrics on these are
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: written by Sam and his band the band. Oh So
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: the song I mean he made me think that this
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: was the theme song had lyrics. John Williams wrote this.
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: John right, right, right right. So it was just done right,
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: and so they sang the whole song with words. I
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: have it on my iPhone like it's something that stuck
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: my These guys wrote those. Those guys wrote it. And
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: as I recall on Paul, one of the members of
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: the band, wrote a bunch of them the songs from
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: the musical? Did he not write the guy Love? Oh?
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: I don't know. You look that up for me too.
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: I think this is a this is a great Bill
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: Lawrence question. Now, okay, hey, Bill, talk to us about
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: Ted's band, Ted's band and Paul from the band whose
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: name I can't quite remember right now, but we will
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: say it in this episode. Um, didn't he write um
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: some of the musical, including the song guy Love? Because
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: I feel like that's a bit of trivia, that's that's true. Also,
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: where did you come up with the idea? I mean,
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: it's obvious, but oh I got it. Paul Perry, Sorry, um, sorry, guys,
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: it's in Um it's a Philip McNiven or George George.
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: Forgive me if I don't say your name right, misserless.
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: And and Paul Perry. I believe it was Paul Perry,
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: and uh, and Bill will tell Us, who wrote a
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: bunch of the musical songs Bill tell Us, Now, hey, guys,
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: it's cool talking to you. Look. Paul Perry, who as
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: part of Ted's band, who were known as the Blanks
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: in real life. This is how Sam Woyd came into
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: my life. He was on Spin City back in the days,
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: Chris Woyd's nephew. He played basketball with us, Donald you
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: played ball with him. And he had this super talented
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: acapella band that like wrote the lyrics to Superman, made
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: him up and used to do it at parties and stuff,
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: and they were just so darn talented, and Paul used
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: to do all the arrangements for them, so we just
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: started using them on the show. Is kind of a
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: Greek chorus with commercials theme songs and TV theme songs.
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: So fun, and you know, Paul ended up writing a
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: bunch of the songs for Guy Love and a musical
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: on his own as well. And more importantly too, the
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: Blanks ended up touring as you know, the Worthless Peons,
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: Ted's band after the show rapped, doing songs from the
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: show and the theme song and their version of the
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: theme song of the finale is one of my favorites,
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: super talent on a group top to bottom and um
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: Man just even talking about him makes me miss Sam.
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: Thank you Bill. Finally where we're in the hospital where
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: the three of us get the hospital overnight and Ted's
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: band's performing and they do Charles in Charge. Yeah, that
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: was a great moment to new boy in the neighborhood
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: lives downstairs and it's understood he's there just to take
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: good care of me like he's one of the family. Charles,
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: Charles in Charge. Oh and I love that show. Didn't
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: you love that show? I did? I did love that show.
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: Nicole Legart, Nicole Leggert, Nicole Leggar, a moment of silence
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: for puberty. All right, let's talk about Zeltzer Bob Lyndennon.
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: This is his first appearance. He's pretty normal in this episode.
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: Zeltzer doesn't really get that wacky yet. He doesn't really
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: fly his his his history flag. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know,
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: I noticed that. How about Rob Machio with I know Man,
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: most impressive, he really killed that and um and then,
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: by the way, another thing that came up. There's a
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: lot of in addition to Eagle and Ted's band of
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: premiering in this episode. This was a thing that we
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: always choked about. Was um uh that that Rob is
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: the best surgeon. Um that according to doctor Wynn right
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: that he because he does um he's what does he say?
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: He goes, um, Well, everybody else's everybody else is thinking
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: about what they This dude just thinking, has nothing in
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: his brain or something. Yeah, I don't forget. He's like,
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: he's like, oh, I know what it is. It's the
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: tiny Yeah, Rob, I say this every episode, every episode
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: that he's in. Man, he really does knock it, knock
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: it out the park man. I'm it was funny. By
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: the way, this is a we go into your head
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: at fourteen twenty one. That was like out of character
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: for the show. We go into your head and uh,
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: we hear what your thoughts are, and that's how we
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: we camera spins around to see. By the way, and
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: you had jargon. But I imagine you just read that ship.
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: I read that ship off the piece of paper. Mat.
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure I heard you say that, Medical Jarre.
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: Does they donald read that ship? He didn't remember that, right,
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: And if you know I read that shit, no, no tin.
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: So when he's smacking the assid the nurse. Did you
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: notice that the nurse got her ass a little perched
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: up high enough so that the the gag works. Yeah,
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: of course that's that's how to make the joke fun.
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: I don't know what she's doing. She doesn't appear to
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: be doing anything. But no, she's just sitting there doing nothing.
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: That's Lynno, by the way, Yeah, that's our friend. That's
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: our friend Lynn. She but she she she doesn't. I'm
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: just gonna scroll because I have the episode open. I'm
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: just wondering if she at least is pretending to do something, because,
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: as I recall, she just looked like she was bent over.
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: Season three, episode sixteen of The Brady Bunch, the Kid
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: the Kids that they covered Casey in the Sunshine Band.
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: It looks like it was a ploy for Paramount Records.
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: They were like, did it for three or four seasons?
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: I told you it was season three? See I have
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: my shit right and everything? Man, can you guess season three? Ho? He?
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: How did you know your Brady Bunch lore? Though? Of
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: course I guess that shit. Do you do the Brady
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: Bunch Wiki? I should do the Brady Bunch Wiki? I should?
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: You're you're so funny, You're like, you're you don't remember
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: the fucking most obvious shit in our relationship, and then
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: you'll be like the Brady Bunch kids started singing in
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: nineteen seventy two. It was episode sixteen of season three.
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: All right, um, I want to talk about the choreographed
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: move Should we talk about that? Yeah? That was cool?
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: Do you remember doing that? Whenever we all all of
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: us are doing the exact same movements and it's a
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: split screen and we're all thinking, and it's all the
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: exact same choreography. And then I read on scrubs Wiki
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: that for some reasons, Judy's was backwards in terms of
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: right left, and so they flipped her. And that's why
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: if you look Judy's name tag is on the wrong
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: side because in post her choreography wasn't right, so they
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: flipped her. I did not I did not know that.
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: I'm gonna be honest with you. I thought this episode
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: was going to have way more Brendan Frasier in it,
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: to be honest with you, I thought it was like
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: a whole episode about, you know, what happened to the character.
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: I didn't know that other ship went on in the hospital.
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: So when watching it, I was like, I don't remember
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: any of this, Like I know that's why I felt weird,
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: Like I wanted to talk to Brendan, but I was like,
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: I feel bad, Like I want to talk about the episode,
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: but I don't want to put fancy Brendan through. Like
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: talking about the fact that Johnny sees wearing his actual
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: Oakleys when we do the real world spoof. Right, that's
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: such a hilarious, so funny. Right, did you see my hair? Dude,
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: your hair's amazing. I took a picture of it to
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: show my girlfriend. It's so funny. And and Johnny's wearing
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: those comedic Oakleys, but those are really his Okleys. Johnny
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: sees the kind of guy that really would rock those
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: ok He probably still wears them those like wrap around
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: like wrap around Oakleys. They're perfect for athletes who have
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: to who are on the go. Like if you're jogging
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: and you have the wrap around Oakleys, no sunlight gets
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: in and they don't fall off your face. I don't care.
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: I love Johnny, but I'm not wearing those Oakleys. Donald
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: than either. Are you no matter what sport you're playing, dude,
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: you are you? You? Let's be let's tell everybody what
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: you are. You're more amazing, amazing. Well, dude, you know
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: I love you and you know I think you're amazing,
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: but you're also uh when it comes to sunglasses, you're
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: very much Uh what's the one that the aviator? Yeah,
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: like eater guys or ray bands or or yeah that's
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: sort of vibe. Yeah, ray band aviators. But I wouldn't
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: rock a colored glass wrap around Oakley. That's not my vibe.
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: If you if you're playing tennis, why not. I just
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: think they look I don't. I know. Johnny listens, Johnny,
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: I love you, it's just not my style. Let me
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: let me let let me just start off by said Johnny.
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: Listen Ny, Johnny listens while he's weightlifting, and I know
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: he's like like pump an iron right now. I don't
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: want to be like, fuck you, Brav. I love my
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: old glass probably got him on right now in the gym. No,
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: I want to talk about how not only does the
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: janitor pick a lock, would that isn't locked? Did you
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: notice that? No? I didn't like, no one took the
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: time to find lockers that would have even like a
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: fake lock. It's like so clearly not locked and he
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: takes a screwdriver and like pretends to pick a non
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: locked locker. And did you think that it was weird
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: that you were writing all of this stuff in a
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: diary like out of nowhere, like just out of nowhere.
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: I forgot all of a sudden, the show's dugie howser.
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: And does that imply that all of JD's of voiceovers
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: are going into a journal? I never even I mean,
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: I certainly didn't play it that way for eight and
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: a half years, right, So when I saw that, I
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: was like, wait a second. So there's there's data. There's
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: information of everyone who, like somebody could go back and
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: in a time capsule or wherever you know, you pass
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: up passed away. There's freaking stacks and stacks of diaries
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: of everything that's ever happened to JD. I never really understood.
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: And it seems that this is the implication, because it's
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: a voiceover that goes right in the diary, that all
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: the voice over your hearing is JD's journal. Now, I
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: do remember that I had a journal, had a unicorn
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: with a sword on its head, and he's there to
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: protect my hopes and dreams. And I want to show
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: that this. I want to the record to reflect this
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: journal did not have a unicorn with a sword on
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: its head, So no one is protecting my hopes and
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: dreams right now on this journal. That's why the janitor
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: is able to get in there. But I thought it
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: was funny when he said theater camp, because you know
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: that was me he really yeah, But that's a that's
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: a that I mean, I know we went to Bill already,
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: But that's another great question for Bill. Are these JD's memoirs?
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: Are we living in present time when we watch this show?
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: You know what I mean? Is this something that took
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: place in the past. We'll ask him, go ahead and
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: ask formerly Donald. We can do a two biller. Bill,
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: is scrubs JD's memoirs? Is it like a bunch of
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: stories that JD has compiled in a bunch of books?
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: Or is this Are we living in the moment from
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: moment to moment? When? Yeah, because we're seeing in this episode,
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: Bill that JD's writing a journal and voiceover goes right
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: in the journal. Was this a Doogie Houser moment? Bill?
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: When do do do Do Do Do Do Do Do
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: Do Do Do do do Do Do do do do do
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: do do do? Hey? The voiceover originally was h conceived as, um,
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: you know, j D keeping stuff in his journals, but uh,
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: we ditched that and just kind of made it. People
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: just go with it. We made it an omniscient voiceover,
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: you know, because we are always caught in his head
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: and his thoughts, and people just go with it. The
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: same way on Modern Family, and no one ever seemed
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: to ask who was interviewing that family and who we're
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: just doing that documentary. You know. That's it. Okay, We're
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: gonna go to commercial, everybody, and thank you so much
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: for listening. Thank you for being our listeners, our friends,
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: our compatriots, and we're gonna be right back with a

- 1:22:52Speaker 1: We're thrilled to be on with you. Guys. Oh, thank you.
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: We um tell us about yourselves. We just heard a
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: little bit. Our producer Joel said that you're you've been
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: watching the show in quarantine and you're not in You're
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: in different locations, So tell us what's going on. And
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: I see Corey as a piano right next to him. Corey, Corey,
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: are you a piano player? Are you a piano? Are
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: you going to play us a little something? I don't
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: think so. But I'm a piano teacher mostly okay, but
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: I've been I'm a composer and a piano teacher. So
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: that's uh. Since I can't give lessons in my living
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: room on my grand piano, I have to give him
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: in my office on my electronic piano over zoom tricks.
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: I truly wish you knew the theme song to our
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: little Rewatch show. I love the theme song to your
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: Rewatch show. I think you guys did a fantastic job.
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: Thank you singing it. Thank you, thank You're really fantastic.
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: I'm not so crazy about the count in. But you
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: know I don't like the seven. Are you saying we're
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: off tempo, Corey, No, I'm saying that you're covering up
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: the first couple of words because there's a there's a
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: there's a pickup. You know, there's a story. So you
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: say five to six, seven, eight, there's a story. It's
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: kind of covered. Yeah, but you know it's a it's
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: a stick now, and so there's there's no way you
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: can change it from here. No, you know what, I'm
- 1:24:07Speaker 1: gonna change it when we finished this is when we
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: finished this, I'm gonna change it just for you, just
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: for this, just for this podcast. I never imagine we're
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: gonna go one two, but one. No, No, you want
- 1:24:17Speaker 1: to go five six seven. There's a story, right, I
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: can go five six five six, You can do that,
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: I said, I know, offense, Corey, but I think the
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: fans will revolt because they really love Donald's five six
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: seven eight. They do. They love everybody's. Yeah. So, like
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: I said, it's it's probably ingrained and there's nothing to
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: do about it. But it's it's just every time it habits,
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: it just kind of bothers. It irks you. All right, Well,
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: I'm sorry, Donald. I'm doing it for you. I'm doing
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: it for you, Corey. Corey, tell us how you and
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: Alex started watching the show, and was this your first
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: time through? Alex, why don't you tell us since Corey's
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: getting all the screen time? Yeah, oh no, it's it's okay.
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: I mean the reason why I wanted us to come
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: on is because Father's Day come is coming up, and
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: I said, for dad for a gift, come on the show.
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: But um, so I don't have to pay for anything.
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: I see how you do it. I I'm the favorite
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: daughter now here we go. No, so, I think I
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: can't remember who started watching the show first, if it
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: was my dad or myself. This is not our first
- 1:25:21Speaker 1: time in quarantine. I would say I've seen every episode
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: of the show multiple multiple times, and I think the
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: same as for my dad. But we really bonded over
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: our love of the show. I think we watched it
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: separately and then came together and realized that we were
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: both watching it, and um we like quiz each other
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: on Little Scrubs, Trevi effects a lot, and it's just
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: something that we've really bondled over. Is our love for
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: the show. For you guys, we love that. We love
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: families that watch together. And you know, also people finding it.
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: What's been crazy about this new era of streaming. You know,
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: the show used to be on Netflix, now it's on Hulu.
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: Is that more generations keep finding it And I think
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: that's really that's really cool. It kind of keeps on going. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:26:00Speaker 1: um to. I don't know if I watched it when
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: it first came on. What year was the first season?
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: Do you know what? Thousand and one, nine, two one?
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: I was gonna say nineteen ninety nine. I don't know,
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: but but I do own the complete collection of DVDs,
- 1:26:14Speaker 1: So I'm hoping that you guys got a little bit
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: of money for me purchasing that it's a sore subject.
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: It's a sore subject, but we don't talk about it. Well, well,
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: we don't talk about that, but I can tell you
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: that you're if you listen to DVDs, you'll have all
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: the exact real music. You won't have any weird Um
- 1:26:28Speaker 1: you're you're the only people with DVDs are the ones
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: with no musical replacements. Yeah, it was a It was
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: a real good purchase for me. Um, great, thank you
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: so much. All Right, do you guys have a question
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: for um, for Donald or for I or for mouse?
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: Is going to go first? I'm gonna go first. Um Well,
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: let me just start by saying, I'm I'm so thrilled
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: to be here you guys. I am, I am shaking.
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: I'm like very excited, UM, very happy. I know, huge
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: fans of you guys. Um Donald, I just have to
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: mention that last night, UM, my fiance and I rewatched
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: my favorite of your movies, I think, which is Remember
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: the Titans. Say Okay, yes, I mean thank you, thank you.
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: You know what you know who has never seen Remember
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: the Titans? It's Zach Braff. I'm gonna watch. We had
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: a conversation at them. Thank you for bringing this up
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: out a conversation. Thank you. We had a conversation at
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: the beginning of this episode, and Zach's like, it's all
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: my to do list. It's all my to do list. Listen, man,
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: I've seen every one of his projects, even the ones
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: that didn't come out in theaters, even the ones that
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: went straight to video. I've seen everything that Zach Braff
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: has been in. I can count them all on this
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: hand right here. Well, I thought it was about sports players,
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: and I didn't think that I would like it. But
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: I love Donald, I love Denzel, and I love Rudy.
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: So if it's anything like Rudy. Do you like Ryan Gosling? Yes,
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: I think he's wonderful. He's in it. Yeah, do you
- 1:27:53Speaker 1: like it? What Harris? I think? If it? I think
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: if it has Rudy's in it, I feel it gets
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: Rudy with Donald Fazon. Is that? Is it like that? No,
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: it's not the Listen, are you the Rudy fing? Are
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: you the Rudy? Because if so, I'm fucking watching that
- 1:28:06Speaker 1: shit tonight. I have a Rudy moment. I have a
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: Rudy moment. Why's your damn movie? Don't all right, let's
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: just put it out. Let's just like this. Let's put
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: it like this. Let's put it like this. Ryan Gosling, Yeah,
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: is up the whole time and I save his ass.
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: Let's just put it that way. Okay, I'm gonna think
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: about it, all right, go ahead, all right, all right,
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: So my question is thank you for watching Alex of course.
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: Of course. So one of the things that's just so
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: incredible about the show in general is the way that
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: you can mix the comedy and the silliness of the
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: show with some of these like more dramatic or serious
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: moments that sort of center around the theme of loss.
- 1:28:46Speaker 1: Right And I know, you just had Brendan Fraser on
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: and that's a really big, uh sort of you know,
- 1:28:50Speaker 1: plot point in the show for doctor Cox, but of
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: course with the loss of John Ritter too. So I'm
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: wondering if you guys could talk a little bit about
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: what it was like to go through the experience of
- 1:28:59Speaker 1: acting on a really highly comedic show and then have
- 1:29:02Speaker 1: to sort of transition to these pretty serious storylines where
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: the characters are experiencing death and loss of some pretty
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: important people in their lives, including patients as well well
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: I'll tell you there were times where I didn't think
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: it was gonna work. There were there were plenty of
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: times where I thought, this is like a hairpin turn
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: in a car. How are you going to go from
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: me doing something so silly? And then I walk into
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: this patient's room and I'm just dropping in for this
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: dramatic moment, and I really have to say, it's a
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: testament to the writing and to build He found a
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: way to make it work. I mean, there were only
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: twenty two minutes without commercials, so sometimes you'd read them
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: and go, how can you be in this weird fantasy
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: and then drop in for this moment where we have
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: tears in our eyes. And I think we just always
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: tried to play it real. Obviously, the fantasies were heightened
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: and some of the some of the physical comedy was heightened,
- 1:29:50Speaker 1: but we always tried to deal with the patient moments
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: like they were completely played straight. And I think of
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: the show Mash a lot, because, um, when I grew up,
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: we were watching Mash and it had a laugh track
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: on it. But when they went into the surgical uh,
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: when they were operating on the soldiers, there was no
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: laugh track. Even though there'd still be some humor. It
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: was just sort of a choice they made, and I
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: often think of that in scrubs. It was almost like
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: there were moments when the silion has stopped and we
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: just dropped in to play totally straight how a doctor
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: would be with it with a sick patient. So I
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: don't know, I think, what do you think? Donald? I
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: think it was just a matter of really good writing,
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: to be frankly absolutely that, and thank goodness that there
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: were you know, that we were able to cut in
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: between scenes and stuff like that, and it wasn't you know,
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: if if this were a play or something where there
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: aren't any cuts in it, it would be very You're
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: absolutely right, it would be very hard to be funny funny, funny, funny,
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: funny and then switch on a you know, turn on
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: a dime and now we're going to be serious. Thank
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: goodness that we had cuts, you know, and uh different
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: scenes edits hit together. For that, this would have been
- 1:30:59Speaker 1: a way more challenging show if this if everything was
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: done on one in one take and you having to
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: ride that emotional roller coaster. I think, you know, as
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: any actor will tell you, those are the most difficult
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: scenes where you're starting like, because usually you work yourself up.
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: On days when I have like a dramatic scene, I'll
- 1:31:18Speaker 1: work myself up and I'll get to the point where,
- 1:31:20Speaker 1: you know, I'm on the verge of crying. And so
- 1:31:23Speaker 1: now I don't have to act that much to get
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: to the tears. If I had to be funny and
- 1:31:28Speaker 1: laugh and and and joke around and everything like that
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: and then move into the dramatic and uh, the sadder
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: side of the scene without a cut, I don't know
- 1:31:40Speaker 1: how I would be able to do it. It It would
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: be such a challenge for me. So thank goodness for
- 1:31:45Speaker 1: the takes and editing. Also, it all comes down to
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: good writing. I mean, you can make you can. You know,
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: there's a movie out Once I really love. I don't
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: know if you're yeah, great movie. But one thing about
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: Once is like Once is the ultimate example of like,
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: if you have a great script, you don't need that movie.
- 1:32:03Speaker 1: That movie looks like it's shot on an iPhone. No
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: disrespect to the cinematographer. I mean it's brilliant. But I
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: mean if if you have a great script and great actors,
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: you can you can make anything, anything work and uh,
- 1:32:16Speaker 1: and uh, you know, it's all. It's all. It all
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: comes down to great writing. Is that? Thank you? Alling slowly?
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: D do do that one? I love that movie? You
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: check out one? Everyone stuff. We have a lot of
- 1:32:31Speaker 1: a lot of movie recommendations. Quiet American once and remember
- 1:32:37Speaker 1: the Titans. All right, Corey, do you have a question
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: for the legendary Donald phase on where is Zach Braff?
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: I do so for me. I love the fantasy sequences
- 1:32:46Speaker 1: in the show. I mean, right from the beginning there
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: were such funny you know. And I think my two
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: favorite ones are when uh, the character Alex you know, says,
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: how would you feel if you know I told you
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: I was ready now to have sex in the March
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: Band comes from Crashing and yourgether the monkey and the
- 1:33:03Speaker 1: monkey with the symbols, Oh my god. And I also
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: love memorable it's in later seasons when uh, somebody is
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: trying to teach Elliott and tasty Como wife a dance.
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: I get Alex told me it was the rewind dance,
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: Oh man, And Elliot is so bad bad at dead dance.
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: She just such a fantastic job of being a horrible
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: at that, flapping her hands and kicking her leg at
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: the wrong time. Oh, very funny anyway, So I was
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: just thinking about I wonder if there were any fantasy
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: scenes that were like pitched or written or even filmed
- 1:33:40Speaker 1: that just didn't make it into the show that you remember.
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: It's probably pretty tough. It's been a long time. That's
- 1:33:47Speaker 1: a very good question. I don't know, Donald, you know,
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: it might have to be our third ask Bill. I
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: think we're gonna have to ask Bill a third time.
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: On this side, it's just like, um, you know that
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: show Millionaire when you get we should you should only
- 1:33:59Speaker 1: be allowed a certain an amount of like ask a friend,
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: call a friend at the audience like, oh, I think
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: you're okay. I would give you a passing calling Bill.
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: All right, So we're gonna ask Bill a third time.
- 1:34:09Speaker 1: I hope you can squeeze in a third one. Were
- 1:34:11Speaker 1: there any fantasies Bill that um that that didn't make
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: the cut? Do you have any memory of anything we
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: shot in a wacky fantasy that that was never in
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: the show. You guys are watching these shows again. I
- 1:34:23Speaker 1: can't remember any I'm so old. I can't remember any
- 1:34:27Speaker 1: fantasy scenes that were cut except one that Gabby Allen
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: always wanted to do a fantasy about newsies. You know,
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: extra extra read all about it, and I think we
- 1:34:35Speaker 1: shot that and cut it because no one understood it.
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: It wasn't a huge fan of musical theater. Uh, miss
- 1:34:41Speaker 1: you guys, love you both, Thank you, Bill. I don't
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: one thing, you know. All often the fantasies took a
- 1:34:47Speaker 1: lot of time and money. Yeah, so I so, I
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: feel like they were rarely cut because it was kind
- 1:34:52Speaker 1: of where budget was getting thrown. Um. You know. Sometimes
- 1:34:55Speaker 1: they would be really elaborate and take a lot of
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: time and money. So usually they probably wouldn't be unless
- 1:34:59Speaker 1: some they went wrong with them, and they and they
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: weren't funny. And I can see that some of them
- 1:35:04Speaker 1: took a long time to make it. It was like
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: eight seconds you Oh yeah, that's all. It was just
- 1:35:09Speaker 1: eight seconds, but you had to spend all day and
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: make up oh yeah, oh yeah, there's some of them
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: were so elaborate and they would take forever and do
- 1:35:15Speaker 1: and then it'd be fully quick. But they're just the
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: laugh out loud parts of the show. And I love
- 1:35:20Speaker 1: a TV show that just makes me laugh out loud
- 1:35:22Speaker 1: but also has that serious. All my favorite shows have
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: that the laugh out Wow What are some of your
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: other shows that you love well, Freaks and Geeks is
- 1:35:29Speaker 1: probably one of my favorite shows. Yea, yeah, and also
- 1:35:33Speaker 1: Gilmore Girls is that way too. They dealt very serious subjects,
- 1:35:37Speaker 1: but there's some really good, laugh out loud stuff on that.
- 1:35:40Speaker 1: For that show, they talk really fast. On Gilmore Girls,
- 1:35:43Speaker 1: they do. I love it. I love it. They're they're
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: both they're incredibly witty. Um, all right, well, thank you guys.
- 1:35:51Speaker 1: Um you're our very first father daughter Colin and um
- 1:35:55Speaker 1: and and we're very we're very happy that you guys
- 1:35:57Speaker 1: are bonding through our show. Because reason, gentlemen, give a
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: big round of applause for Alex and co. Oh my god,
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: Oprah does not sound like that. You sound like Oprah
- 1:36:09Speaker 1: on fucking crack right now. No, I don't sound like
- 1:36:11Speaker 1: Oprah and c sound like if Oprah took a fucking
- 1:36:14Speaker 1: hit a crack rock. All right, thank you, thank you,
- 1:36:23Speaker 1: thank you, thank you. Argue making us argue in front
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: of all the guests. We argued in front of Corey
- 1:36:28Speaker 1: and Alex, we argued in front of Brandon, the hell's
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: wrong with you? I'm trying to see what it sounds like.
- 1:36:33Speaker 1: I'm trying in my head if Oprah did crack? How
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: like sounds like that. Although, listen, there's one commercial and
- 1:36:43Speaker 1: Oprah got it right. Well, she gets a lot of
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: things right, but it's one of them wait Watchers commercial.
- 1:36:48Speaker 1: It's my favorite commercial ever. It's your favorite commercial ever.
- 1:36:51Speaker 1: It's a Oprah week starts off like this. This is
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: the joy for me. I love bread, but veryite commercial. Dude. Yeah,
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: but who doesn't listen. I spent a lot of time
- 1:37:11Speaker 1: in quarantine. Yeah. Love. Do you know what I love
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: more than anything? Right now, I'm noticing I love bread
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: all I love bread. She doesn't do it like that.
- 1:37:24Speaker 1: She goes down with it. It's not bread, it's bread. Um.
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: All right, thank you everybody for tuning in. We've done it.
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: We went through the show. We had wonderful guess what
- 1:37:36Speaker 1: I have one thing Underdog, great song at the end
- 1:37:39Speaker 1: of the show one Ted's band that's on their record
- 1:37:42Speaker 1: also Underdog. Yeah. And then I feel like we tied
- 1:37:46Speaker 1: the story up really quick in this episode. You know
- 1:37:48Speaker 1: what I mean. I think we ran out of time.
- 1:37:51Speaker 1: To be honest with you, it feels like we ran
- 1:37:53Speaker 1: out of time on this episode. At the end of
- 1:37:56Speaker 1: the episode, things tie up really quick. We don't even
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: go through the whole chemo process with Brenda's character. We
- 1:38:03Speaker 1: go right into oh, you know what, chemo worked and
- 1:38:05Speaker 1: they went right and the cancer went into remission. Yeah,
- 1:38:09Speaker 1: it feels like we had to tidy up a little
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: bit so we could move on with the story. It's
- 1:38:13Speaker 1: a lot, it's a lot. It's a lot too. First
- 1:38:15Speaker 1: of all, he was only signed on for two episodes
- 1:38:19Speaker 1: in this and you know it's twenty two minutes with credits.
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: You gotta, you gotta, you gotta hurry. Um, thank you
- 1:38:26Speaker 1: guys for being our listeners. Please tell your friends about
- 1:38:29Speaker 1: the show. Please subscribe on iTunes or wherever you get
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: your podcasts. Please, what else? Donald? Please? Um? You know
- 1:38:37Speaker 1: read the word follow us on Instagram? Tell Donald that
- 1:38:40Speaker 1: you love him. Well, you don't have to just tell
- 1:38:42Speaker 1: me you love me. You can also follow me on Instagram.
- 1:38:44Speaker 1: They can do both. They could, they can do follow
- 1:38:46Speaker 1: us one point four million followers, Donald Fhazon myself, who
- 1:38:50Speaker 1: I am? I do not have one million. But you
- 1:38:53Speaker 1: don't have to bring this up every episode. People are
- 1:38:55Speaker 1: gonna think you have a hang up about it. They're
- 1:38:56Speaker 1: gonna be like, I don't want to follow that dude,
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: he's gotta hang about this ship, you know what. To
- 1:38:59Speaker 1: spite him, I'm gonna unfollow him. Well, you know, if
- 1:39:03Speaker 1: those are there are people out there that are like that.
- 1:39:05Speaker 1: You know that's understandable. But and I'm not gonna, you know,
- 1:39:09Speaker 1: hold you at fault for that. But you know, my
- 1:39:11Speaker 1: goal is to one day reach the legendary status of
- 1:39:14Speaker 1: Zach Braff on Instagram and have one point four million followers. Yeah. Well,
- 1:39:19Speaker 1: thank you to all my followers, and thank you to
