- 0:00Speaker 1: Come on you. Uh huh, I sure will. Good morning
- 0:06Speaker 1: everybody you're listening to the voice, Come on dig me now,
- 0:11Speaker 1: one and only Steve Harvey got a radio show. You
- 0:14Speaker 1: know this week, I've just been on it, So today
- 0:17Speaker 1: is no different. I'm telling you, I've just reinvigorated myself.
- 0:22Speaker 1: I'm more determined to share the principles of success. I'm
- 0:26Speaker 1: more determined to help and guide and teach as many
- 0:32Speaker 1: people as I can the things that I've learned. And
- 0:34Speaker 1: I mean, man, I've been through it. I have really
- 0:37Speaker 1: been through it. I kid you not. You know. I
- 0:39Speaker 1: used to say, Okay, God, you know, why is all
- 0:41Speaker 1: this happening to me? But as I've gotten older, I
- 0:45Speaker 1: understand that was the ingredients. I needed the ingredients to
- 0:49Speaker 1: be this cake. I needed all those ingredients stirred up.
- 0:54Speaker 1: I need all of that different flavors, the stuff that
- 0:57Speaker 1: I didn't think tastes so good. All that stuff had
- 0:59Speaker 1: to come into the bowl in order for me to
- 1:02Speaker 1: get to where I am today. As much as I
- 1:05Speaker 1: did not like the taste of the ingredients, little did
- 1:10Speaker 1: I know God was making this cake, not me. But
- 1:13Speaker 1: what he did was and you've heard the old saying,
- 1:16Speaker 1: God could turn lemons into lemonade. Well, that's what he
- 1:21Speaker 1: was doing now. At the time, it all had a
- 1:25Speaker 1: little funky lemonade lemony flavor to it, with some other
- 1:29Speaker 1: stuff in it too. I didn't care for it. But
- 1:33Speaker 1: little did I know that I needed everything that happened
- 1:36Speaker 1: to me, that happened to me, in the exact order
- 1:38Speaker 1: that it happened, and the exact array of things that
- 1:41Speaker 1: happened for me to have the knowledge I have today,
- 1:44Speaker 1: the experience, the attitude, so I could turn around and
- 1:50Speaker 1: share that information. Okay, got that out the way. This
- 1:55Speaker 1: is what I want to give to you today. I
- 1:57Speaker 1: want you to understand something that discipline determines your destiny,
- 2:03Speaker 1: not your desire. Discipline determines your destiny, not your desire.
- 2:10Speaker 1: You've heard me say this how many times on the show. Okay,
- 2:13Speaker 1: here we go against Eeve. I got it. Faith without
- 2:17Speaker 1: works is dead. But let me tell you something. To
- 2:21Speaker 1: be a hard worker, you got to be disciplined. That's
- 2:23Speaker 1: one of the hardest lessons I'm trying to get through
- 2:26Speaker 1: to my sons. You're gonna throw yourself down a cliff
- 2:30Speaker 1: if you're not a young man or a man that
- 2:32Speaker 1: possesses discipline because they got something for undisciplined people. They
- 2:38Speaker 1: got some street laws for undisciplined people, and they got
- 2:41Speaker 1: some federal laws and state laws for undisciplined people. So
- 2:46Speaker 1: that's why them signs is outside on the freeway, we're
- 2:49Speaker 1: gonna let you go fast, But seventy is the limit.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Seventy fast enough. Really, if you're disciplined enough of a
- 2:56Speaker 1: person to leave your house at the time you're supposed
- 2:59Speaker 1: to leave your house, seventy miles per hour is absolutely enough.
- 3:04Speaker 1: But if you're an undisciplined person, if you don't have
- 3:07Speaker 1: the wherewithal to leave your house on time, to get
- 3:10Speaker 1: ready to go where you wanna go, see the desires
- 3:14Speaker 1: where you wanna go, the discipline is how you get there.
- 3:18Speaker 1: You understand, you can wanna go to see your family
- 3:21Speaker 1: in California all you want, but the flight leaves at
- 3:26Speaker 1: one eighteen. You leave your house at twelve thirty. They
- 3:29Speaker 1: told you you must check in one hour before your flight. Now,
- 3:35Speaker 1: if you ain't got the discipline to get to the
- 3:37Speaker 1: airport to check in one hour before your flight, leaving
- 3:41Speaker 1: your house forty five minutes before the flight departs, what
- 3:44Speaker 1: you think gonna happen? Your desire to go see your
- 3:48Speaker 1: family in La is going to be thwarted because you
- 3:52Speaker 1: lack the discipline to prepare yourself and get yourself ready
- 3:57Speaker 1: to do the things that you have to do to
- 3:59Speaker 1: make your desires come true. I'm telling you, discipline determines
- 4:04Speaker 1: your destiny, not your desire. You can write down a
- 4:07Speaker 1: list of stuff you wanna do all day, but if
- 4:10Speaker 1: you don't produce and show the discipline necessary to get there,
- 4:14Speaker 1: what you think gonna happen? Huh? Okay. I wanna be rich, Okay,
- 4:21Speaker 1: I wanna make four hundred thousand a year. Okay, I
- 4:25Speaker 1: wanna be the best player that they is. Okay, but
- 4:29Speaker 1: you don't want practice. See the cat that's disciplined enough
- 4:33Speaker 1: to show up at practice, that's shooting jumpers when everybody
- 4:36Speaker 1: gone home, that's the guy that's gonna be the best.
- 4:39Speaker 1: The guy that's never late for practice, the guy that
- 4:42Speaker 1: study the playbook, that's the guy that's gonna make it.
- 4:45Speaker 1: Not the guy that's talking crack, got stalking that smack.
- 4:48Speaker 1: I'm gonna make the Pro Bowl, I'm gonna make the
- 4:50Speaker 1: All Star Team, I'm gonna be All American. That's just
- 4:53Speaker 1: what you're saying. But discipline determines your destiny, not your desire.
- 5:00Speaker 1: So now let's talk about this discipline. What is that, really, Steve.
- 5:04Speaker 1: That's your work ethic, that's your hunger, that's your will.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Discipline is how hard you're willing to demonstrate the attributes
- 5:16Speaker 1: and the traits to be what you want to be.
- 5:19Speaker 1: Did you hear me? It is your willingness to conduct
- 5:23Speaker 1: yourself in a manner that is above and beyond what
- 5:28Speaker 1: they say is necessary. Now, this is a good example
- 5:31Speaker 1: right here. Now. You can want to be in the
- 5:34Speaker 1: NFL all you want, but they got this thing called
- 5:37Speaker 1: the NFL Combines where they bring in some of the
- 5:41Speaker 1: top players at every position to come in and they
- 5:44Speaker 1: gonna run a forty yard dash, They're gonna do a
- 5:47Speaker 1: standing broad jump, They're gonna do a standing vertical leap.
- 5:53Speaker 1: They gonna do drills, running drills, cutting drills. They can
- 5:58Speaker 1: determine if a line back of God stiff hips by
- 6:01Speaker 1: making him backpedal, point him in one direction and throw
- 6:04Speaker 1: the football in another direction. How does he turn his body?
- 6:07Speaker 1: Now you can say you can tell everybody at your
- 6:09Speaker 1: college you want to play pro football. You can tell
- 6:11Speaker 1: everybody at your high school you can tell them in
- 6:13Speaker 1: Peewee you wanna play pro football, but they got tests
- 6:16Speaker 1: for you though. It's called the combines. Now you get
- 6:19Speaker 1: out here and you have a bad combine day, Ain't
- 6:22Speaker 1: nobody trying to hear that. Let me tell you how
- 6:24Speaker 1: excuses don't work with people when they just trying to
- 6:26Speaker 1: get when they trying to win. In the NFL, the
- 6:30Speaker 1: fact that you had a bad day at the combine
- 6:32Speaker 1: and you don't run your best forties and you keep
- 6:35Speaker 1: telling them you could do better, they don't want to
- 6:37Speaker 1: hear that. Because see, what ain't nobody gonna pay you
- 6:39Speaker 1: for is to play on Sunday. And that's one of
- 6:42Speaker 1: your bad days. We paying you to play on Sundays.
- 6:47Speaker 1: But because you keep having these bad days, because you
- 6:51Speaker 1: ain't disciplined enough to put in the work to make
- 6:53Speaker 1: sure that your maximum can be called upon at any time.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Now you at to combine with some slow times that
- 7:00Speaker 1: go on your record. You had to combine. You don't
- 7:03Speaker 1: jump as high as you did when you was at
- 7:04Speaker 1: the gym class. Well, hold up, man, this is show
- 7:07Speaker 1: day now in the NFL. Sunday is show day. What
- 7:12Speaker 1: they can't run the risk of is paying you your money,
- 7:14Speaker 1: and your bad day happen to be on Sundays after
- 7:17Speaker 1: we done cut your check. No, no, no, We looking
- 7:20Speaker 1: for people who limit them bad days, who got the
- 7:23Speaker 1: discipline to work hard, to make an effort for it.
- 7:26Speaker 1: You understand what I'm saying to your folks. Please understand this.
- 7:30Speaker 1: Discipline determines your destiny, not your desire. If you can
- 7:35Speaker 1: want it all you want, but if you ain't working,
- 7:38Speaker 1: if you ain't grinding, if you ain't hurting, if you
- 7:42Speaker 1: ain't sweating real bad, if you always somewhere, got to chill,
- 7:47Speaker 1: you got to have a cold one, you got to
- 7:49Speaker 1: smoke one, You got to do all them things. Can
- 7:51Speaker 1: I tell you something you ain't gonna make it. Discipline
- 7:56Speaker 1: determines your destiny, not your desire. To the Steve Harvey
