- 0:09Clinton: Welcome to the Sea Hawkers Podcast.
- 0:11I'm your host Clinton Bonner.
- 0:12Adam, the Seahawks, we lose 19-16 to the Tennessee Titans.
- 0:17I'm not so sure the, the final score matters tonight.
- 0:20We're gonna recap this game.
- 0:21Adam, the Seahawks played exactly one half of football, basically.
- 0:25I'm wearing half a shirt.
- 0:26How you doing, buddy?
- 0:27Adam: I love that you're wearing half a shirt in honor
- 0:29of, half a football game.
- 0:32Look, I mean, there's a lot that we can take away from this game.
- 0:35I've got my pocket full of notes here.
- 0:37Mm-hmm.
- 0:37And I think probably the first thing to start out with here, Clinton, if
- 0:42we're gonna talk about big stories of the night- I think that the biggest
- 0:46story coming out of this game by far is that Jason Myers has the shanks.
- 0:51Mm.
- 0:51He has the shanks, Clinton.
- 0:52You
- 0:52Clinton: go
- 0:52Adam: and kick it early.
- 0:55Somebody needs to take him aside, make him put his helmet on backwards,
- 0:56take all his change from his right pocket to the left, put a golf tee
- 0:59behind his ear, and stop shooting chili peppers up Lee Jansen's ass.
- 1:02And start, you know, getting through the ball.
- 1:05Like, this spraying stuff to the right, it's now two games in a
- 1:08row, and this is a massive concern.
- 1:11Clinton: Well, look, we, our special teams was so, so good last year.
- 1:15Myers literally broke the all-time NFL record for most points
- 1:19scored in what did he have?
- 1:20Six field goals in the last game of the season, right?
- 1:23Going six for six.
- 1:24Yeah.
- 1:25And he saved, saved their ass a couple times last year.
- 1:27That Philip Rivers game comes to mind as well, late in the season versus the Colts.
- 1:31He was Money Myers- Yep … all year.
- 1:33Adam: Last year, that, last year.
- 1:34Clinton: Yeah, and so far, so not very good.
- 1:37Now, the games don't count yet, but it looks ugly.
- 1:40You know, I know we're jumping right into Kicker Talk, but it looks ugly.
- 1:43Everything is getting pushed.
- 1:44Like you said, doesn't seem like a lot of follow through.
- 1:46The ball's tailing on him, and it looks very, very, very, very ugly.
- 1:51We will get into all of it, and we'll stick on Myers for a second more, but
- 1:54I always want to recognize Ryan911 coming in, our executive live producer.
- 1:59999 super chat.
- 2:00Say, "My man, the hose was fantastic tonight."
- 2:03We thank you, Ryan.
- 2:05You're the man.
- 2:06And, but all right, what else you want, do you still want
- 2:08to talk about Myers, though?
- 2:09We got it out there early.
- 2:10Adam: Special teams, like-
- 2:11Clinton: Special teams, bad, bad, right?
- 2:13Again, great last year.
- 2:15Today- Yeah … the Titans are in the game, even, even at halftime,
- 2:19they're in the game because our special teams is brutal.
- 2:22Adam: Yeah, it was tough.
- 2:24Cody White with the fumble as well on the punt return.
- 2:27Clinton: Yeah.
- 2:27Adam: Henderson had a return as well where he, like, caught it and
- 2:31then suddenly took it out, then tried to go back in, and it was just like,
- 2:34dude, like, run the football, you know?
- 2:36tough, tough game for special teams, and we wanted to get kind of the bad
- 2:39out of the way, or at least the majority of the bad out of the way at first.
- 2:42There we go.
- 2:43special teams was the worst unit of the night.
- 2:45and then you start looking at the first half and you go, "Holy
- 2:49crap, the Seahawks', twos are better than the Titans' ones."
- 2:54Clinton: Yeah, Robert Saleh can kiss all the grits.
- 2:56before we do get there, I do think we have to also recognize
- 3:00the other bad bad, Bud Clark.
- 3:02When you bring the air cast out there within, like, 30 seconds, bad bad.
- 3:06Sucks incredibly hard for the young man, for our team, for our depth.
- 3:12He's our second round pick, and- I'm no doctor, Adam.
- 3:16I, I don't, don't even play one on TV, but when you're bringing an air cast out and
- 3:19getting carted off with that much kind of fanfare around you, for a lack of a very
- 3:23bad term there, doesn't look good for Bud.
- 3:26We'll hear, I'm s- I'm sure shortly, but I don't think we're gonna see this
- 3:29dude this entire year now it seems like.
- 3:32Adam: No, that looked like a season ender right there.
- 3:34Heartbreaking for sure, and you could see just how much pain he
- 3:38was in right out of the gate.
- 3:39I mean, immediately motioning to the sidelines.
- 3:42super tough break, man.
- 3:44Yeah.
- 3:44And I was super excited about Bud Clark.
- 3:47that's, yeah, that's the second biggest story of the night,
- 3:49with Bud Clark going down.
- 3:51Clinton: Yeah, I mean, and I do wanna get into some of the people we
- 3:54did see later in even the third and fourth quarter in the safety position,
- 3:57because now that really opens up, and it may be just examining- Yeah
- 4:01what can we look at at safety, when we get behind, you know, Okada and Love,
- 4:05'cause that changes, that changes now.
- 4:07And, yeah, very, very, just very unfortunate.
- 4:12It's, it's a bru- football stuff, man.
- 4:14Brutal game.
- 4:14I mean, look, Raiders go out there today and Ashton Jeanty blew out an ACL today.
- 4:19He, he's done- Oh
- 4:20most likely done- Are we
- 4:21Adam: sure?
- 4:21Clinton: Well-
- 4:22Adam: I just saw an update that they thought that he avoided major injury.
- 4:24Clinton: I, I, I hope so.
- 4:25I saw one that said looks like an ACL tear and likely done, so look, I hope
- 4:28the dude, I hope the dude avoided all that, but it's a brutal sport, so.
- 4:32All right, well, there was a lot, a lot, a lot of good, especially early.
- 4:38Where do you wanna go first?
- 4:39Because that first half, man, we were kinda cooking and firing on
- 4:42maybe some old flurry cylinders.
- 4:44Adam: Yeah.
- 4:44So I think you have to start offensively, right?
- 4:46And one of the things that, y- when we talked with Bryce Coots on the-
- 4:51Yeah … Hawk Side just yesterday-
- 4:52Clinton: Great conversation
- 4:53Adam: talking about the idea of, like, people wanting to see the
- 4:56offense come out and click and do a little bit better there, and holy
- 4:59smoly, like, you get a touchdown drive right out of the gate.
- 5:02Mm-hmm.
- 5:03Arroyo makes a couple nice, big plays in, in that drive.
- 5:06Now, the touchdown was a complete coverage bust, so, like, okay.
- 5:10you know, the preseason, but- Yeah … look, that's a touchdown drive with your
- 5:14twos going up against the Titans ones.
- 5:16Clinton: Yes.
- 5:17Adam: And it was crisp, and I thought Drew Lock had, a better game
- 5:20tonight than he did in week one of the preseason, and that was pretty cool.
- 5:25And then I'm sure we gotta get to- Jarkadia Wright
- 5:29here at some point as well.
- 5:31Clinton: Yeah, I think so.
- 5:31And we got, we got Brandan here dialing in from the airport saying that he says third
- 5:35biggest story was R2s against the Titans ones, and Brandan has of course dialed in.
- 5:41yeah, man, look, Robert Saleh's, defense looked bad,
- 5:45and we are pushing them around.
- 5:47So before we get to celebrate maybe a little Jark- Jarkadia Wright,
- 5:51and give him a little bit of flowers, I mean, look, he ran- Yeah
- 5:55through a nice hole, I would like to put the, the emphasis on the run blocking in
- 6:00that particular play, because it wasn't…
- 6:03It was like three or four people had to do their job really,
- 6:06really well against dudes like Simmons right in the middle there.
- 6:10So I'll go to my guy, I mean, on the pull there, UConn, my
- 6:14UConn boy, Christian Haynes.
- 6:16Yeah.
- 6:17This is the second week in a row, Adam, where I was like, okay, I think
- 6:20Christian Haynes is solidifying himself as like, okay, as a legit backup guard
- 6:25right now, right behind Bradford.
- 6:27I think he played pretty good, dude.
- 6:28What did you see?
- 6:30Adam: Yeah, overall I think he had a, a decent game, and the
- 6:33block on the touchdown run where he pulls and gets out there was- Yeah
- 6:37a fantastic block.
- 6:38You know, he had some down moments as well, and I think this is
- 6:41something that we're gonna have to talk about in regards- Mm-hmm … to
- 6:43a number of performances tonight.
- 6:44There's some bad and there's some good, right?
- 6:46And that doesn't mean it was all dog water, and it doesn't
- 6:50mean it was all awesome.
- 6:51But at the end of the day, Christian Haynes has the nice
- 6:54block there on the touchdown run.
- 6:56Two plays before, he gets absolutely smoked by Simmons.
- 6:59Mm-hmm.
- 7:00and just, you know at that point, you're like, "Look, I really hope that
- 7:04we don't have to play Christian Haynes against elite D tackles on the regular."
- 7:08that could get problematic.
- 7:09So, yeah, I think at this point, especially with Richmond going down early
- 7:15in the game- Right … I, that looked…
- 7:17He jogged off, it looked like he might be okay.
- 7:19but I think Christian Haynes may have s- solidified
- 7:22a spot as the number two guard.
- 7:24Clinton: Which is pretty crazy considering where we thought maybe
- 7:27he, you know, may- maybe like just battling for a roster spot.
- 7:30I agree, and I think Cabledo got in early because Richmond went out.
- 7:33I think it was Cabledo who actually seals Simmons on that long run.
- 7:37I think it was.
- 7:39If someone wants to check in chat- Yeah … you can let us know, but I think it was
- 7:4177, which is, which I think is Cabledo.
- 7:43Yeah.
- 7:43Adam:
- 7:43Clinton: but then Cabledo was also playing late into the fourth
- 7:46quarter also, so he was- Right
- 7:47I think he was out there because of the, the ding to Richmond, but
- 7:50that's, that's the way it goes.
- 7:52But also, you know, okay, that's the payoff play.
- 7:55What did you see from Fleury's offense?
- 7:57I saw a couple things right out of the gate that I really liked,
- 8:00I would say philosophy-wise.
- 8:02Okay … during the first couple of plays.
- 8:04Well, it was simply like Brady Russell with a head of steam,
- 8:08you know, under center with a fullback kind of o- offset, and
- 8:12your, you're running back deep, and then- playing off of that, right?
- 8:16So that right, right out of the gate.
- 8:18And then they, then they change it up and they get in the shotgun
- 8:20and do some things from there.
- 8:21But I thought just philosophically and watching how Fleury scripted the opening
- 8:2710 or 12 plays or so looked really good to me, especially when you consider it's
- 8:32R2s going against Titan- Titans' 1s.
- 8:34Anything else, any wrinkles from Fleury or just, just, you know, ways in which he
- 8:39got, got the game going that excited you?
- 8:41Adam: Yeah.
- 8:41I mean, some of the multiple motions that, you see them go with, and
- 8:45like we've seen Brady Russell go in motion and then they check a receiver
- 8:48in or out or something like that.
- 8:49That was kinda fun.
- 8:50Mm.
- 8:50I think the number one thing that I kinda took away from it was just how
- 8:53many condensed formations that- Yeah
- 8:55we ran.
- 8:55It was almost all of that, right?
- 8:57And-
- 8:57Clinton: Even out of shotgun, though.
- 8:58Like- Mm-hmm … it was still, like, condensed around the line, for sure.
- 9:01So that, that's a great point.
- 9:03Adam: Yeah.
- 9:03So, you know, you kinda get that feel of the bully ball style of
- 9:07offense that I think Coach Mike wants to run, and the type of offense
- 9:11that I would love to see them run.
- 9:13But good sequencing from, Fleury in the first drive and the scripted plays.
- 9:18And now that's two games in a row where I feel like the scripted
- 9:22plays looked really, really good.
- 9:24And honestly, af- outside of that, I think he improved this game
- 9:28compared to week one as a play caller because the offense continued.
- 9:31The, obviously they scored the touchdown, they put Myers in position
- 9:34for another field goal at one point, and I, I thought they moved the ball
- 9:39pretty effectively throughout the first half and I, I think that's a great,
- 9:42great step to see out of Brian Fleury.
- 9:44Clinton: Yeah, and I think, what was it, 16-9 at the half, I wanna say.
- 9:48Yeah, 16 to nine at the half, but that was with a m- a missed PAT, a missed
- 9:53field goal, and the Cody White fumble which gave them three points, right?
- 9:57So- Right … right there, a seven-point swing.
- 9:59This should've been a, in a, I think in a typical Seahawks game, what
- 10:03starts in a couple of weeks, I think this game would've been over by halftime.
- 10:06You know, they would've been shut the door.
- 10:08But, again, we talked about Myers early.
- 10:11Just can't, you can't leave those kind of points on the board.
- 10:14but of course, Wright has that big touchdown.
- 10:17We actually get pushback with that longer PAT, make it like a
- 10:2040-something yarder to, for an extra point, but he pushed it right.
- 10:24All right, so but either way, the first half was still really good, holding
- 10:27the Titans to only three, you know, only three f- field goals,
- 10:31which is really not all that bad.
- 10:33There were some…
- 10:34Anything else about the, the offense first half, particular players?
- 10:38It…
- 10:38The stat lines aren't, like, outstanding.
- 10:41There wasn't even like a, a Foster this time to look at and be like, "Oh
- 10:44God, yeah, five or six receptions."
- 10:46It was really more spread out.
- 10:48and besides the big play from Wright- I'm not su- I don't have much
- 10:54else to, to g- grab on in saying this offensive player stood out versus another.
- 10:58Do you?
- 11:00Adam: No, not really.
- 11:01I mean, it felt like kind of a steady performance in the first half, and
- 11:04then when we got to the second half, things got, less steady,
- 11:09le- if we're gonna put it nicely.
- 11:11Yes.
- 11:11look, eh, in the first half, it, that was all positive stuff.
- 11:16That's all the stuff that we wanted to see from the offense in…
- 11:20That's without even the starters playing, and I think that's a massive positive.
- 11:24But then we get to the second half, and it's like, oh my stars, the, the
- 11:29back end of the roster receivers, if you're relying on them, on
- 11:33the regular, we're in big trouble.
- 11:36Clinton: Yeah, we're not.
- 11:37Yeah.
- 11:38We're not, we're not, and we're not going to.
- 11:39Yeah.
- 11:39But they were, they were, bad.
- 11:41They were GR double, G-R-O-double S gross, I think is how you say it.
- 11:45They weren't good.
- 11:46But, I'd like to flip back, if it's okay by you.
- 11:49In the first half, there were a couple of players I thought, defensively
- 11:53that, that really jumped out to me.
- 11:55One that I'll start with is I think Brandon Peely really had a nice game.
- 12:00Oh, interesting.
- 12:00Okay.
- 12:00I thought Peely was super disruptive.
- 12:02He's just…
- 12:03I thought he was, like, in the backfield quite a bit, just,
- 12:06just really blowing things up.
- 12:07I had, a couple of different scenarios.
- 12:10There was one in, like, five minutes to go in, in the, in
- 12:13quarter one, second down play.
- 12:14It becomes like a two-yard run, but it's a two-yard run because Peely outright
- 12:18beats, you know, wins, wins his spot, and there's a, a clean linebacker to come in.
- 12:23Might've been Paul.
- 12:24I thought Paul played really, really well.
- 12:26I thought he, I th- his- Yeah, he, he had a couple plays … his best
- 12:29game so far, I think, as well.
- 12:31and let me see.
- 12:33I had a couple more.
- 12:34Oh, you know what I got?
- 12:35I, so one more who I thought played- I think he had a, a near sack
- 12:41in the first half, and then he, I think he gets a sack, maybe it
- 12:44was, like, early third qu- quarter.
- 12:46Thought Jamie Sherriff played a really good game of football, man.
- 12:49So he's wearing number 50 out there.
- 12:51He had a bull rush, s- early, early second quarter, where he
- 12:56just walks, dog-walks this guy back into the, into s- I think Cam Ward
- 13:00was still in, into Cam Ward's lap.
- 13:02Doesn't get the sack, but he disrupts the entire play.
- 13:06At the, I think it was early third quarter, Adam, he does get the sack,
- 13:09but again, he just dog-walks a tackle directly back, and at that point it
- 13:13might have been Levis' lap or Trubisky.
- 13:16Boy, they have a lot of quarterbacks, flying around Tennessee, Adam.
- 13:20But, Sherriff stood out to me, and you saw other dudes like Gaines get
- 13:25in later, and other dudes getting in later, but I thought Jamie Sherriff
- 13:29made a really good, showing for himself that, off the edge…
- 13:34This wasn't speed either.
- 13:35This was pure I'm running through your face- Yeah … and still
- 13:38getting to the quarterback.
- 13:40I was encouraged by what I saw from Sherriff.
- 13:43Adam: Yeah.
- 13:43I, I think that he had a couple of really nice reps, getting some penetration,
- 13:47and actually, you know, screwing up the play a little bit there for the Titans.
- 13:51Another, if we're gonna stick kinda to, some of the defensive line
- 13:54stuff, you know, Connor O'Toole has a sack- Yeah … and a nice TFL,
- 13:58in the game as well, and I thought he flashed and, and showed some stuff.
- 14:02I also felt like, number 70, Singleton, at the defensive tackle
- 14:06spot, he, he made some- Yes, good pick off
- 14:08some nice plays, and, you know, he got pushed around a little
- 14:11bit in the run game at times.
- 14:13But also had some, some nice plays, and, getting in the backfield, and,
- 14:17and really stretching some things out.
- 14:19yeah, I thought that was, that was pretty encouraging.
- 14:22to kinda shift focus to maybe the back end of the defense, we talk about
- 14:28corner three all the time- Mm-hmm
- 14:29and what we're gonna be doing there.
- 14:31There was some moments that I, I felt like Dansby had a couple nice
- 14:35plays, Fuller had a couple nice plays- Yeah … then a bad one.
- 14:38Like, there, there was some up and down there from those guys, but some flashes
- 14:42that maybe we hadn't seen before.
- 14:44Clinton: Yeah, we got, WaterBearer79 saying, "Pritchett
- 14:47looked pretty good to me."
- 14:48So Nehemiah Pritchett had a very nice play, a little bit
- 14:51later- Mm-hmm … on that scri- the bubble, on the bubble, right?
- 14:54Where he just, he- Yep … just bursts it, he goes right through the wide receiver,
- 14:57says, "No, you know, not today, Satan," and he just makes a, a really nice
- 15:01tackle right at the line of scrimmage.
- 15:03but I saw the same from Dansby.
- 15:04You mentioned Dansby.
- 15:05Adam: Mm-hmm.
- 15:06Clinton: I like Dansby around the line of scrimmage.
- 15:09I have not, personally, I have not seen enough.
- 15:11This is not like, "Oh, I haven't seen it, therefore it's bad."
- 15:14This is literally I haven't seen enough volume of him in coverage.
- 15:18But the things, for me, one of the things with the Mike Macdonald defense
- 15:22is if you're a cornerback, you need to be able to stick your hat in there and
- 15:26tackle well around the line of scrimmage.
- 15:29So for me, this was the second time I saw Dansby really make a, a plus plus play.
- 15:34One was, last week, and there was one this week as well.
- 15:38So it's like, okay, so it's there, it's on tape, and he, and he's a good…
- 15:42He brings his hat.
- 15:44The other one you mentioned was Singleton, right?
- 15:46Singleton, to me, had two splash plays that were both really, really good.
- 15:50The, there was one where he beats the edge and he, and whoever it was, and
- 15:54he strings the play out to the side.
- 15:56And then it's Hook, who might get a chance now at safety, you know, who, and
- 16:01he comes flying off the screen, brings his hat, and he makes a really nice
- 16:05tackle, so it was a nice combination play.
- 16:07But it's kind of cool to, like, look at these guys that are
- 16:09gonna be bubbly/ready squad.
- 16:12And while the second half of the game was choppy at best and the-
- 16:17Yeah … interior line got bowled over, it was ugly again for certain
- 16:22dudes on the in- on the interior line, there were these bright moments
- 16:26from a guy like, Singleton, who I think was rocking number 70 out there.
- 16:30Yeah.
- 16:30If folks are like, "Who are we talking about?"
- 16:32I think he's number 70.
- 16:33Adam: Yep, you're correct.
- 16:34Number 70.
- 16:35and I think you're also correct with your assessment of, like, the overall
- 16:39defensive line play in the second half.
- 16:41the threes and the fours, like, they're, they were concerning.
- 16:45And the good news is, is that, you know, we're not gonna
- 16:49remember any of this by week five.
- 16:51Hmm.
- 16:51And, it'll all be gone, and that's fine.
- 16:54but- The competition for quarterback three was, is gonna be interesting.
- 16:59I also thought, you know, we talk about safety position stuff, I
- 17:02thought De'Anthony Bell had a, a handful of nice plays in this game
- 17:05as well, and, showed out nicely.
- 17:08So you know, some flashes, and that's kinda what you're looking
- 17:11for in preseason games, right?
- 17:13Like, the idea of picking out a lot about Fleury's scheme or, you
- 17:18know, seeing some cohesion out of the threes and the fours in the, in
- 17:22the second half of a preseason game, like it's just not gonna happen.
- 17:25I mean, that- Yeah … that looked like a preseason game, all the penalties,
- 17:29the, the- Yeah … choppiness of it.
- 17:30Clinton: It got
- 17:31Adam: ugly.
- 17:31and so yeah, like Bell, Dansby, Singleton, Otoole, those are the
- 17:38guys defensively that kinda stood out.
- 17:40I'd be interesting, interested to hear your take on, Montorie Foster Jr.
- 17:44in this game, Clinton, 'cause we've got a little back and forth,
- 17:47in the comments here regarding- Yeah … Foster's performance.
- 17:50So, where, where did you, what did you take from that?
- 17:54Clinton: Yeah, I th- you know, I think there was, well, the, the outs or
- 17:58the, the re- the reason Br- Brandan was out on Foster as we're seeing
- 18:01on screen, w- well, I think the, one of the reasons was he had, he had
- 18:04another false start penalty, right?
- 18:06So those are- Yeah
- 18:07absolute no-nos.
- 18:08You just can't do them.
- 18:10Drive killers in certain ways, and certainly momentum stoppers.
- 18:13but the other stuff I thought was, it was, I think Foster…
- 18:17Well, let's see, looking at the stats real quick.
- 18:18What did Foster end up doing?
- 18:21Foster, okay, he had the, yeah, he had one catch, but for 24 yards.
- 18:25So he did have a- Mm-hmm
- 18:25you know, kind of- Yeah … one big splash play.
- 18:28I don't, he had, he had three targets, so he only, only hauls
- 18:31in one, but again, the ball was really spread around quite a bit.
- 18:34So I don't know.
- 18:35I keep seeing enough from Foster that I think he's got a legit
- 18:39shot of making this roster.
- 18:41Cody White did not have a good day.
- 18:43Now I think- No … I think Cody White is locked into this roster, I think.
- 18:48I think.
- 18:49Adam: Yeah?
- 18:49Clinton: But he had a shot to go up and get, get a 50/50 ball from
- 18:52Milroe down the right-hand side.
- 18:54Doesn't come down with that.
- 18:56and then of course he has a really, really bad muff on that
- 18:59punt and they turn the ball over.
- 19:01So Cody White was, just a little off today.
- 19:05He had one- Yeah … reception, eight yards on two targets, and, and
- 19:09that really bad, that really bad miss.
- 19:11But, you know, Ricky White had a nice little day.
- 19:14He had the two receptions for 22, but he also had a big play called back
- 19:19that- Mm … they called hi- him, I think, on, OPI, where he gets-
- 19:22Yeah … he gets the arm extended and they call it, the arm's extended.
- 19:27Sometimes they're gonna see that and call that.
- 19:29But I don't mind it, you know.
- 19:30I think he, he got the separation and, and he gets, downfield real quick.
- 19:33Mm-hmm.
- 19:33So
- 19:34Adam: he- Yeah, and Milroe hit him with a great ball.
- 19:35Clinton: Yeah, yes he did.
- 19:36He did.
- 19:37didn't, ends up not counting, but, but that was right on time.
- 19:40So, so that was another one for me that I thought that, I thought White
- 19:44played pretty well or at least got himself back into this, this kind of race.
- 19:50Adam: Yeah.
- 19:50'cause we hadn't been talking about Ricky White much, and,-
- 19:54Yeah … it, it was nice to see him go out and have a few opportunities.
- 19:57To kinda go back to Foster a little bit- Mm-hmm … he had the one big
- 20:0124-yard, catch on the in breaker that, again, Milroe put right on the money.
- 20:07It was a perfect throw.
- 20:08that was really cool to see.
- 20:10he also had the opportunity for the touchdown, in the first
- 20:15half, and Locke just overthrew him, but just, just- Yeah … that much.
- 20:19Clinton: Yeah, that's right.
- 20:20Oh, that…
- 20:21I forgot about that play.
- 20:21So that was, that was a great all-out dive, and, you know, it's…
- 20:25the ball moves a little bit, and that's gonna be enough, obviously.
- 20:27So he- but that was a good effort, and it was-
- 20:30Adam: Great effort
- 20:30… Clinton: yeah, really r- yeah, fantastic effort, right?
- 20:33And you're right.
- 20:33Locke, it just- he's open.
- 20:36Like-
- 20:36Adam: Yeah
- 20:36… Clinton: Foster did his job all the way through, then lays out, just can't make
- 20:41a diving play as he hits the ground.
- 20:43What are you gonna do?
- 20:44But if Locke has a little more loft on that or it's a half a yard less deep,
- 20:50he's catching that in stride for six.
- 20:52So- Yeah … really glad you brought that back up, 'cause I
- 20:54momentarily forgot about that.
- 20:56But his stat line would shift dramatically, and he'd be the kinda
- 21:00the talk of the town again about catching another, another touchdown.
- 21:04so it's a little bit of, of a miss, but you know that when Fleury
- 21:08and Mike and the team go back and watch that, they're gonna lo- watch the
- 21:11process and be like, he once again got open, which is what we talked about.
- 21:16Like, this dude routinely gets open.
- 21:19He has some mental stuff- Yeah … that we saw on Hard Knocks, Adam, but for
- 21:23my money It's really hard to cut a dude in the NFL, especially a wide
- 21:27receiver, when they consistently get separation, and he's doing that
- 21:32Adam: Here's the problem, though.
- 21:33It's easy to cut a wide receiver in the NFL when you continue
- 21:36to compound boneheaded plays.
- 21:38Mm-hmm.
- 21:38Like mental errors.
- 21:39That's the type of stuff that drives coaches absolutely insane.
- 21:44Clinton: True.
- 21:44Adam: Right?
- 21:45Like, to get a false start as a wide receiver is maybe the most ex-
- 21:51inexcusable, false start of any of the players that are on offense.
- 21:56Like, all you have to do is look in, and when the ball's snapped, go run.
- 22:02Like, you can't…
- 22:03Y- y- you- there's no way you should be listening to the snap
- 22:06count or anything like that, and if you are, you're doing it wrong.
- 22:09so yeah, that's gonna be something.
- 22:12The inconsistency, the volatility of Foster's play is gonna be a difficult
- 22:18thing for y- John Schneider and Mike Macdonald to evaluate at the end of
- 22:22the day and, you know, decide if that's somebody that they wanna keep
- 22:26around based on the upside, or if they can't deal with the nonsense
- 22:30like Clinton's, no-sleeve shirt.
- 22:33Clinton: I got Noof Guy calling me out.
- 22:34He's considering dress code on YouTube live.
- 22:36so you might have missed the, the beginning there, Noof.
- 22:39I'm on the East Coast.
- 22:40My wife is sleeping.
- 22:41I was watching the game downstairs.
- 22:42There's no, there's no shirts down here, so this is what it is.
- 22:45So the Sea- it's, I made the joke, Seahawks play in a half,
- 22:47I'm wearing a half shirt.
- 22:48I appreciate it.
- 22:49And we got Brian saying, "Hey, is that the rule for hosts or viewers?"
- 22:53For you, whatever y'all wanna do at home, but then I like this too.
- 22:55I'm out.
- 22:57Then, then Brandan's saying, "Just no nips.
- 22:59Just no nips, Noof Guys."
- 23:00No nips.
- 23:00So going with the, the Janet Jackson rule here, so no nips.
- 23:04but I hope…
- 23:04I'm, I'm happy to take a, a ribbing over this, this,
- 23:08poor, poor man's Pat McAfee look that I got going on here, so.
- 23:11all right.
- 23:13So first half good, second half terrible.
- 23:16Really, really bad.
- 23:17But let's see, there's, we talked about Milroe already.
- 23:20There were some other dudes I thought in the second half that, that still
- 23:23played pretty well or had, had a couple…
- 23:26Actually, we went through them.
- 23:27We went through Singleton, we went through Dansby.
- 23:28We talked about Hook already.
- 23:30Adam: Yeah.
- 23:30Clinton: We did not talk about Milroe's performance.
- 23:33I think- Mm-hmm … I think we should talk about Milroe, because again, the pendulum
- 23:37or the, reactions are, are wide.
- 23:41E- even in our chat here, we got some people saying, "I think- Yeah
- 23:43he played pretty well," and I got some pe- and some people are like,
- 23:46"Hey, trade this dude already."
- 23:47which is odd, because he's, you know, he's a second-year guy.
- 23:52So Adam, what did you see from Milroe?
- 23:54two interceptions are not good of course, but, but there was stuff
- 23:57also beyond those interceptions.
- 24:00Adam: Right.
- 24:00Well, let's start with the interceptions and be honest about
- 24:03the, the play on the field when it came to those two interceptions.
- 24:06The first interception, inexcusable.
- 24:09You can't just- Yeah … not see that dude, you know?
- 24:13Like, it- you really, really can't.
- 24:15And that was an awful pick.
- 24:18God awful.
- 24:18Like, double minus if you're grading it, right?
- 24:21Clinton: Yeah.
- 24:21And he's, and he looks like he's trying to stare that, that particular
- 24:24line- I think it was a linebacker who dropped back, or safety, whatever.
- 24:28But it looks like he's trying to stare that guy off.
- 24:30Like, it like, he's is right there.
- 24:32So it wasn't, you know, it wasn't like a nose tackle dropping back, you know,
- 24:36with a, with a misdirection or if it got, you know, like a multiply-
- 24:40Adam: You know, just a basic zone drop from
- 24:41Clinton: a linebacker.
- 24:41Yeah.
- 24:42Yeah, very much.
- 24:42Mm-hmm.
- 24:43Right?
- 24:43Just like a little drop back and, and he's sitting in that zone, and Milroe's,
- 24:48you know, staring down that section.
- 24:50So do you think he didn't see him, or do you think it was a little bit of hubris?
- 24:53I could, I could fit that in there.
- 24:55What do you think, Adam?
- 24:57Adam: If I had to guess, it's that he didn't see them, see the guy.
- 25:01Because when they flashed to him on the sideline right after that, like, he
- 25:04looks at the tablet and then just kinda immediately is just like, "Oh my gosh."
- 25:08You know, like how…
- 25:09Like, so that's my guess.
- 25:10I don't know for sure.
- 25:11I know that the announcers tried to make it sound like he was trying to
- 25:14hold that linebacker with his eyes.
- 25:16Clinton: Yeah,
- 25:16Adam: that's what they said.
- 25:17That's not what I saw- Yeah … on the, on the game tape.
- 25:19Maybe when we go back and break down the all-22 it'll look a little different.
- 25:23But, yeah, that's a, that's a, that's a terrible, terrible pick.
- 25:27it turns out young quarterbacks throw terrible, terrible
- 25:30picks, every now and then.
- 25:32Yep.
- 25:33It happens.
- 25:33Clinton: Yep, even Peyton- … Manning, threw a bunch
- 25:35of them his rookie season from what, from what I remember, so.
- 25:37Adam: Right.
- 25:38Right.
- 25:38So then we get to the second pick, on the boot, and,
- 25:43yeah, he, he misses it on the run.
- 25:45That's a much more difficult throw, but you are going to your right.
- 25:48And he, he just puts it about a foot too far behind.
- 25:52Mm-hmm.
- 25:52Should Henderson keep his feet and be able to, at the very least, knock that down?
- 25:57Yeah.
- 25:58He did him zero favors by stretching his one leg way out and just slipping.
- 26:03but a poor throw.
- 26:05That was his most inaccurate throw, of the entire
- 26:08preseason- Yeah … to this point.
- 26:10and so when you look at Milroe's performance, those are the two
- 26:14things people are gonna focus on.
- 26:16And if you hear a lot of people out there telling you that that was a dog water
- 26:21performance, that he took a thousand steps back, that, as Brandan put it in
- 26:25our group chat, that Jalen Milroe just woof, well, then you're just wrong.
- 26:32You're just wrong.
- 26:32Because we mentioned closer to the earlier part of the podcast here, like,
- 26:37there was a number of really good throws that he made, and good decisions where
- 26:41he actually had some clean pockets and threw some really nice footballs.
- 26:45Like, again, that in breaker to Foster Jr.,
- 26:48that's a great throw.
- 26:50That's a great throw.
- 26:51And he had a handful of those throughout the game.
- 26:54I think, I think, you know, you talked about one on a comeback on
- 26:57the right-hand side that, it, it, it hits you a certain kind of way.
- 27:01Clinton: Yeah.
- 27:02Well, just he…
- 27:02I think he kind of just missed them and kind of d- he dirtied one a little bit.
- 27:05I mean, you, you miss, if you miss low where a guy's covered, that's
- 27:09not a bad place to miss, right?
- 27:10That's where
- 27:10Adam: you put that ball.
- 27:11Clinton: Right.
- 27:11It's- Yeah … it's, well, you'd like it to be a couple of feet higher so you
- 27:14c- can actually catch it, but look, I didn't think Milroe was very good tonight.
- 27:17I think we're gonna disagree on this.
- 27:18I, and I'm not saying you think he was good tonight.
- 27:20I,
- 27:20Adam: I don't know that we are disagreeing.
- 27:22Clinton: Like- I think he was, I think he was okay, and he got zero help again.
- 27:26There we go.
- 27:27And he got zero help again is the big thing, too, because
- 27:30every, oh, stat line changes around, the drives change around.
- 27:34That ro- that Rochelle drop, that's a beautiful, that's a- Yeah
- 27:37a, a planned boot to the left-hand side.
- 27:40Beautiful play, nice concept, using what Milroe does very well.
- 27:44So nice to see what Fleury understanding, hey, I can get Milroe out of the
- 27:47pocket, get him on the move, and if it's not there, then he's in position
- 27:50to use the Ferrari and use the legs.
- 27:52But guess what?
- 27:53On that play, there was a there there, and Milroe put it exactly where it had to be.
- 27:58That's a great throw, right?
- 27:59So-
- 27:59Adam: Yeah
- 28:00… Clinton: I could see enough of these, enough of these moments where
- 28:02it's like, no, those are good throws.
- 28:03I thought the ball to Cody White, we talked about it right before we hopped on.
- 28:07Yeah.
- 28:07You were a bit more forgiving on Cody than that one.
- 28:10I thought, you know, like, hey, you gotta make plays, too.
- 28:12You gotta, you gotta make plays- Yeah … for your guy.
- 28:13And Cody had kind of like, kind of had the high man position, right?
- 28:16Yeah.
- 28:16He jumped at the exact right time, and he was about to high point that thing.
- 28:21I just don't think he came down with the ball.
- 28:22He didn't come down with the ball.
- 28:23So I thought it was uneven, and the interceptions are bad, and I thought,
- 28:29I thought he was worse than last week.
- 28:31and I'm not saying- Okay … like terribly worse or markedly
- 28:33worse, but I thought it was…
- 28:35And not, it's not a step back because it's not about that.
- 28:39But I think overall performance-wise, I thought he was a little cleaner last
- 28:42week, and that was disappointing for me.
- 28:45Adam: I don't know.
- 28:46I, so I, I, I would agree with you.
- 28:48This is not a good performance.
- 28:50When you have two atrocious picks, it's not gonna be a good performance.
- 28:54it wasn't, it wasn't dog [bleep] either.
- 28:57there's, again, a lot of good stuff on the tape, and we'll do
- 29:01another, film breakdown on that, and, just to kind of show
- 29:05people what actually happened there.
- 29:07I did see one comment in the chat here talking about how the, when Milroe came
- 29:13in, bunch of false starts and holdings- Mm … and all that stuff, right?
- 29:17And, I'm not sure if the commenter was, kind of
- 29:21trying to pin that on Milroe.
- 29:24but and we'll come back to, Brandan's comment
- 29:28here on the Cody White part.
- 29:30Mm-hmm.
- 29:30but, y- look, when you get in with the threes and the fours-
- 29:35Yeah … that's what it looks like.
- 29:37I, I don't put any of that on Milroe, like, really at all.
- 29:40he had the nice, sc- he had a couple nice scrambles.
- 29:44He had one long one,- Mm-hmm … you know, picked up a first down.
- 29:47I think on the fourth down play where Jonathan Vilma kinda killed him for not
- 29:52running, it was like, okay, to where?
- 29:55Clinton: Mm.
- 29:56Yeah,
- 29:56Adam: there wa- Like, there's dude right in front of him.
- 29:58Nobody was open downfield.
- 30:00Venette broke freely- Yeah, I mean, like- … tried to come back- Yeah … but
- 30:04he was already having problems there.
- 30:06Like, I don't think the announcers did him any favors, with perception.
- 30:10you know, "Oh, he's just a quarterback who's not confident."
- 30:13He threw a lot of confident balls tonight.
- 30:15it, it, it was, it was an up and down performance, and it's,
- 30:20like, maybe just okay minus, like, was his performance tonight.
- 30:24Clinton: I think that's-
- 30:24Adam: Regarding the…
- 30:25Yeah.
- 30:25Clinton: No, I, I think that's fair.
- 30:26Do you wanna go back to, the, the Cody White play?
- 30:29Adam: Yeah, yeah.
- 30:30I actually think that that was a smidge underthrown.
- 30:33Like, I mean, if we're being real honest about the
- 30:35Clinton: performance.
- 30:35But I think this one's different, though.
- 30:37You're saying the third and five, which was- Yeah … or is
- 30:39that the shot down the sideline?
- 30:40That's shot
- 30:40Adam: down
- 30:40Clinton: the sideline.
- 30:40Oh, that's the one.
- 30:41Okay, yeah, okay.
- 30:42Adam: Yeah.
- 30:42Clinton: may, again, maybe a little underthrown, but the, the
- 30:46DB was right with Cody White, too.
- 30:48So it wasn't like- Yeah … oh, if he throws it perfectly.
- 30:51It's still not a 50/50, because- No … it was, it was that,
- 30:54w- it was covered well, right?
- 30:56Which I don't mind.
- 30:56Y- it's third and five, you take your shot down the sideline, and
- 30:59Cody White is your bigger receiver.
- 31:01That's the type of ball he should go up and go get.
- 31:03Again, for me, White had a pretty, pretty rough day out there.
- 31:07and again, turnovers are gigantic in the NFL.
- 31:10So when you throw two picks or you muff a crucial punt- Right … that
- 31:13allows the team to get back into it, well, you, you're gonna get, you're
- 31:16gonna get talked about a little bit, unfortunately in a negative way.
- 31:19Something super positive, though, we got Mark on Zero Hawk with a
- 31:22$10 Super Chat saying, "Good to see some depth finally develop.
- 31:26Lots of great stuff from those not named Milroe and Myers."
- 31:30So obviously, Mark was not into the, Milroe, game.
- 31:34We did talk about Myers already, but thank you, Mark.
- 31:36We appreciate that a lot.
- 31:38Hey, I got some looks like bad news, just kind of floating in here.
- 31:42Mm.
- 31:42So I think it was Nate, Nate Schutz, who is very fun to
- 31:46hang out with on our Discord.
- 31:47Everybody here should get involved in our Discord.
- 31:48It's fantastic.
- 31:49Go to Go- Get in the, getintheflock.com.
- 31:52I think it's five bucks a month now to get in the Discord.
- 31:54It's a ton of fun.
- 31:55Like and subscribe.
- 31:56But Nate, burying the lead here, says, "Damn, just heard they think
- 31:59Mason Richmond's injury is severe."
- 32:01So, if there's more about that, put it in, put it in the, comments.
- 32:06please let us know what's up so we can kind of rep- you know, maybe give, if
- 32:09there's a report or someone's tweeting it out, or Mike Macdonald said something, we
- 32:13wanna be as accurate as we can, especially with a young man's future like that.
- 32:16Nate, that's, stinks for all of us.
- 32:19that was a dude- Hope it's not
- 32:21Adam: true, but
- 32:21Clinton: I think- I'll, yeah, hope, hope it's just
- 32:23not, you know, not, not true.
- 32:25But that was, he was, he's locked in at, he was locked in, basically, it looked
- 32:29like, as our, as our backup left guard.
- 32:32So if, if we lost him also, and we lost what was gonna be our backup
- 32:37safety, man, we're taking some, we're taking some hits.
- 32:42And- Mm … and last season was, we had injury, we had injuries,
- 32:46but they tended to be like, "Okay, he'll be out a couple of weeks.
- 32:48All right, he'll be, it's a two-week thing.
- 32:50Even it's a six-week thing.
- 32:52Cool, he'll be back."
- 32:54This year so far, Adam, it's like we're hitting some, some guys that are, they're,
- 32:57they're done for the year with Bobo.
- 32:59Right.
- 32:59It looks like, looks like Bud Clark.
- 33:01I'm sh- unfortunately- Yeah … sure that news is gonna be bad on him too.
- 33:04Adam: Yeah, no, for sure.
- 33:06I guess in comparison to some of the other teams around the league, I mean, at
- 33:10least it is, hasn't been too, knock on wood, key starters, to this point.
- 33:14Yeah,
- 33:15Clinton: yeah.
- 33:15Adam: Right?
- 33:15Clinton: Yeah.
- 33:16Adam: so, there is that.
- 33:18And look, I mean, it's a game of attrition, and these
- 33:21things are going to happen.
- 33:23and the good news is, is that they practice at the VMAC and not next to
- 33:29a substation, so I don't think that this is gonna be a continuing trend.
- 33:33But, yeah, a bummer for Richmond, bummer for Bud Clark, no doubt.
- 33:38Clinton: Yeah, we got Car Car Carly Perkins asking a great,
- 33:41great question out there for folks that, you know, might not know.
- 33:43She's asking, "Was Richmond predicted to make this roster?"
- 33:45I think, Car Car, the answer is yeah.
- 33:47I think he was, he was looking like the very likely backup
- 33:51left- Mm-hmm … left guard.
- 33:52He was winning that battle, and that was all the buzz, and that it was,
- 33:56you know, Cable dude was sliding backwards, and others were, were…
- 33:59And Richmond was kinda lapping the field when it came to backup left
- 34:03guard, which at that point, you know, you're, you're pretty obviously,
- 34:07you're very close to getting out there for, w- with the ones.
- 34:10hopefully no more injuries, knock on, knock on all the wood for that.
- 34:14All right, so anything else you see in chat, Adam, or
- 34:16areas that we did not canvas?
- 34:18again, overall the stuff that matters most, we talked about Jason Myers,
- 34:24certainly has gotta get, get right.
- 34:25Yeah.
- 34:26But beyond, but beyond that, us, the Seahawks played really good football
- 34:31when we had our, our top players out there, second-string guys, and
- 34:36it was against Tennessee's ones at- Yeah … the beginning of that game.
- 34:40And we were the, the most crisp.
- 34:42Lock looked good, and we looked like a, a well-oiled machine on both
- 34:46sides of the ball- Yeah … when, when the twos were out there.
- 34:50So- I think that's a big improvement from last week as well.
- 34:54And again, I think that first half was a lot more like what we're gonna see
- 34:58of, of regular, if you will, Seahawks football when the real lights go on.
- 35:02Adam: And it does give you some confidence offensively just in terms
- 35:05of seeing it work and being like, "Okay, this is, this is similar to the
- 35:09scheme that we're, all comfortable with from last year," no doubt.
- 35:13oh boy, here we go.
- 35:15Yeah.
- 35:15yeah, Mark here has in the comments, "It is confirmed by
- 35:19ESPN head coach, Mike Macdonald confirmed it's a major longterm injury.
- 35:24expected to sideline Richmond for multiple months."
- 35:27also Brandan- Sounds like it … on the plane seems to have, gotten the
- 35:31same information, so, so that stinks.
- 35:33But- Yeah … yeah, offensively, I think that was a, a positive
- 35:38performance in the, in the first half, and Drew Lock looked pretty darn good.
- 35:42I mean, there was a g- a couple things you could get nitpicky about,
- 35:44but he looked pretty darn good.
- 35:46And I think that we didn't really talk enough about Wright's
- 35:49performance in this game, because-
- 35:51Clinton: Okay, let's talk about that,
- 35:52Adam: yeah … I thought he was pretty dang good as a, as a whole.
- 35:54Now, that's two preseasons in a row where he's flashed, and that gives me
- 35:59a little more confidence going into the season knowing that Charbonnet
- 36:03is not gonna be back for a while.
- 36:04And, we've yet to see Price, as fans, like, do anything on TV.
- 36:10So- Yeah … we're still projecting that.
- 36:12Clinton: So I've got a very different take on this.
- 36:14so the, this is Ja- Ja- Ja- Ja- Jacardier Wright side.
- 36:19Yeah, I'm, I'm
- 36:20Adam: not
- 36:20Clinton: even gonna- It's, it's, I always wanna put an R
- 36:22at the beginning, but it's J- Jacardier Wright, so I apologize.
- 36:24Adam: Jacardier.
- 36:25Clinton: Yeah, Jacardier, which is a really kinda cool name.
- 36:28So h- he goes eight carries for 81.
- 36:30He, you know, that's a great average.
- 36:3110, the one touchdown, but the long was, it was a 69-yard run.
- 36:35I, I, like, I know there's some people that love Wright in
- 36:39our Discord, and that's cool.
- 36:41I don't see m- I don't see a lot from, from him.
- 36:44I just don't.
- 36:44I don't, I think he's at the, at…
- 36:46He doesn't, to me, doesn't have, like, crazy elusiveness.
- 36:49And look, he hit a hole that was there that, a running back should go hit.
- 36:52Yeah.
- 36:54He had enough breakaway speed to, to take that to the house.
- 36:58Fine.
- 36:59I can't blame a guy.
- 37:00It- it's a 69-yard touchdown, so I'm not g- I'm not gonna dog the guy.
- 37:03I don't think he's all that, that special a back.
- 37:07I think that Velus Jones has s- has more special qualities in terms of burst.
- 37:12And then of course we have not s- Emmanuel Wilson can't find the field,
- 37:15and we're a couple of weeks out from kickoff- Mm-hmm … and he's been injured.
- 37:19and you know, Holani we think is good, you know, good
- 37:23to, and can pop a bit- He's okay
- 37:25but good.
- 37:26Yeah.
- 37:26I, I think he's a good back with some upside, but not, not great.
- 37:30And then you say we haven't, we haven't seen Price one bit yet.
- 37:33It is interesting that they put Price really in bubble wrap and, and- Yeah
- 37:37… the report was, for those that didn't see it, like, hey, the coaches have seen
- 37:42enough, and enough in a positive way, like the explosiveness, the vision, it
- 37:46all being there, the contact balance.
- 37:49They saw enough this week with the, with the shared practice with
- 37:53the Titans that they were like, "We do not need to risk him out there."
- 37:57So if you wanna say more about Wright, of course, go ahead.
- 38:00But I'm interested in your take on, the coaches putting Rice,
- 38:04Price in bubble wrap too.
- 38:06Adam: Yeah, I mean, of course we're gonna trust Coach Mike.
- 38:09I, I mean, at this point it, it's hard to, you know, cast much doubt on a lot
- 38:14of his decisions because of, the job he's done since he's gotten to Seattle.
- 38:19it- what I was saying, like it's projection for us.
- 38:22Like I was speaking more for us fans.
- 38:24Like we, we just haven't seen him, like unless you went to training camp.
- 38:27And, so we're…
- 38:29I, I loved his film in college.
- 38:31I, I think he's gonna be good.
- 38:33I'm excited about it.
- 38:35but it is disappointing to me to not see him on a personal
- 38:39level, but you know what?
- 38:40The Seahawks don't need to make me happy with who they play in the preseason.
- 38:44Right.
- 38:44Like that's not what they're trying to, trying to get done.
- 38:47I do have a question for you.
- 38:48Yeah, I mean, you talked about Holani and, and, and Wilson and then Wright.
- 38:53Let, let's compare Holani and Wright a little bit.
- 38:56Like which one of those two is more explosive to you?
- 39:00Clinton: I think Holani's still a, little more…
- 39:01I think, I think Wright is- Explosive?
- 39:03I think, I think so.
- 39:04I think, yeah, I've seen enough, and I think he's a better pass
- 39:06catcher, and I think he's…
- 39:07I mean, I also saw, I s- also saw Wright have a bad miss today on
- 39:11a, on a, a, a blocking assignment.
- 39:14Bad, bad miss.
- 39:14Okay,
- 39:14Adam: cool.
- 39:15I, that's not what I was asking about.
- 39:16I was asking
- 39:16Clinton: about explosiveness.
- 39:17Well, those
- 39:17Adam: things also…
- 39:18Clinton: I- Yeah … I don't think Wright is that explosive.
- 39:20I just don't see him as like, "Oh my gosh, he's making people miss that, that should,
- 39:24that should be tackling him," and, and he's ex- and b- being super explosive.
- 39:29Even the touchdown run, it's a nice run, but to me it wasn't like, "Oh my gosh,
- 39:33look how he got through that hole."
- 39:34It's not like you're watching Jahmyr Gibbs there.
- 39:36So I think it's fairly close on explosiveness, but I think Holani has
- 39:42other things he does better to make him a better, better overall back.
- 39:45Adam: All right.
- 39:45Well, I, I…
- 39:46They, we're watching two different players because I, I don't think it's even close.
- 39:49Like, I think Wright is much more explosive than Holani.
- 39:52Holani is, is okay.
- 39:54Like, he's a, he's a fine average NFL running back that will get you the three
- 40:00yards if there's three yards there.
- 40:01He'll get you- … the five yards if five yards there.
- 40:03That's how I feel about Wright.
- 40:04And he, it, it, and he'll catch, catch stuff out of the backfield, but he's
- 40:07not gonna hit a 60-yard home run.
- 40:09Like, that, that's not George Holani.
- 40:10Like, it's not the George Holani we've seen anyways, as a Seahawk.
- 40:15And then, you know, him in comparison to Velus Jones, like, I, I, I
- 40:20have a hard time with the wide receiver turned running back thing.
- 40:24have never really seen it work out much.
- 40:27And while Jones is probably the fastest of all of them-
- 40:30Clinton: Yeah
- 40:30… Adam: I don't see the vision, I don't see the instincts.
- 40:33he's a guy that bounces it constantly.
- 40:37I am not a Velus Jones guy, really at all.
- 40:39Clinton: Yeah.
- 40:40I, I get it.
- 40:41And I, and I'm not a huge lover of the, the wide receiver
- 40:45turned running back either.
- 40:45I, it's not l- not my favorite thing there.
- 40:47So, and look, Wright did, did himself very well tonight, so it's like I, I
- 40:52could have my, my viewpoint on him.
- 40:54I think he's- Sure … kind of a JAG in, in terms of what a running back is
- 40:56in the NFL, but to make this roster, he's been serviceable, he's been good
- 41:01when he, when he's gotten chances.
- 41:03I g- look, I can't take it away from him.
- 41:04When the guy's gotten touches, he has performed, so you know,
- 41:08I c- I could eat, eat that crow.
- 41:10E-
- 41:10Adam: exactly.
- 41:10Yeah.
- 41:11Clinton: So it's, so, so that's, a- admitting that for sure.
- 41:13So I, I still think he probably does make the roster, is
- 41:16what a, what a, what I would see.
- 41:18and again, we have no idea if Emmanuel Wilson will be ready, and-
- 41:22Adam: Yeah, and also too, like, I, I, I feel like I'm in the minority on
- 41:27this opinion, but, Emmanuel Wilson and George Holani are basically the same dude
- 41:33Clinton: I think Emmanuel- Like, like
- 41:34Adam: to me
- 41:34Clinton: Emmanuel Wilson's, you know, his like yards per carry are
- 41:38near elite, and when Jacobs went down and he went in, he was good.
- 41:44Like, the Packers got derailed when Craft got hurt, right?
- 41:47When the, the, he's, he was, he was the glue.
- 41:50He was the engine for that team.
- 41:51When he went down, they were just derailed.
- 41:53but when Jacobs went down, Wilson did the job.
- 41:57He was really quite good.
- 41:59So we'll see.
- 42:00But you know what?
- 42:00You gotta be healthy, and he has not. Yeah.
- 42:02He's, he's also not healthy right now.
- 42:04So we'll see.
- 42:05We'll see if he can get ready, and maybe he gets a few touches
- 42:07as we head into Kansas City.
- 42:09but I, if I had to predict right now, I think Wright has done enough
- 42:12to make this roster, because hey, when he gets his touches, he- he's
- 42:15at least productive and good enough.
- 42:19Adam: Yeah.
- 42:19A- and at least initially, right?
- 42:22Until Charbonnet is healthy in-
- 42:24Clinton: Yeah
- 42:24… Adam: then, yeah, may- maybe then he ends up getting moved down
- 42:27to practice squad or something.
- 42:29And when I'm, and I'm talking about Wright, like I'm talking about him
- 42:32as like running back three, right?
- 42:34Like, I'm not saying like, "This guy needs to be a starter.
- 42:37We need to put him out there.
- 42:38He may even be better than Price."
- 42:39Like, I'm not saying nothing like that
- 42:42Clinton: Yeah, no, I get it.
- 42:43I think he's solidly running back four on this roster currently, or, or five.
- 42:48But, we have, Daniel saying, "Put Shaheed back at running back."
- 42:52Mm-hmm.
- 42:52We did it last year, and I don't- Put JSN
- 42:55Adam: in the backfield a couple times too-
- 42:57but he was catching passes from there.
- 42:57Clinton: Yeah, I mean, Shaheed is an interesting change-up every now and
- 43:00again where they'll just be like, "Hey, let's just student body left,
- 43:04student body right, get to the edge," c- because he's so darn fast.
- 43:08Adam: Mm-hmm.
- 43:09Clinton: And he's got good vision.
- 43:10You know, Shaheed has, Shaheed has the vision-
- 43:13Adam: Mm-hmm
- 43:13Clinton: with this team.
- 43:14I would…
- 43:15I personally actually don't love giving Shaheed running back touches, because
- 43:19running backs get beat up in the NFL, and I wanna see Shaheed returning kicks,
- 43:23I wanna see Shaheed getting behind safeties deep, and I wanna see Shaheed
- 43:27running safeties deep so JSN and others can eat, and Barner can eat all day long
- 43:33because Shaheed's presence is really important to what Flurry wants to go do.
- 43:37Adam: Yeah.
- 43:38I think the other guy, since you brought up Barner, that we
- 43:40didn't talk about enough in this game, I, I think it was Arroyo.
- 43:43Like, we're, we're starting to see him pop a little bit here and there- Yeah … and
- 43:47get integrated in, and I think that's really awesome to see because,
- 43:52as you put it, like, with Shaheed and then possibly, you know, Horton being
- 43:55back at some point, taking the tops off defenses, having Arroyo working
- 43:59underneath there with JSN and Barner and all that, when they, you know they're
- 44:02gonna wanna be in some heavier personnel packages, that starts to get exciting.
- 44:06Clinton: Yeah, I mean, look, two receptions, 50 yards,
- 44:09he gets the big touchdown which was 36 yards on four targets.
- 44:13Like you said, it's an absolute blown play, which I'm sure Saleh's gonna be…
- 44:18Very interesting, like nobody, no one decided to cover him, but, he puts
- 44:22certain stress on, on, linebackers or if he, depending on who- The mismatch
- 44:27element is really, obvious, right?
- 44:32And, and I think Flurry's gonna take advantage of that, so if we can get
- 44:35a bit more Arroyo, it'll be very fun and very intriguing, and, a bit
- 44:40of a change-up from last year, too.
- 44:42So a team can't just go back and look at last year's stuff and game plan for
- 44:46Arroyo being a more sincere part of this offense, 'cause that's not really on tape.
- 44:51He really didn't get a lot of chances last year.
- 44:53Yeah.
- 44:53so let's see.
- 44:55NFL's smart.
- 44:56I think the NFL evolves really quickly, and again, I, I've been
- 44:59on the record, I'm not anti-Arroyo, I'm anti move tight ends in the NFL.
- 45:04I just don't think they…
- 45:05I think more often than not, there's a lot more hype around the move tight end,
- 45:10and there's not a lot of productivity because at the NFL level, the, you're
- 45:16seeing more teams g- At least trying to emulate, be like, "Okay, we could play,
- 45:21we could play a nickel, but we could play with some, some guys that could really
- 45:24travel and hit with these tight ends."
- 45:27So, and I think the NFL's going more towards that way, which I think
- 45:31is gonna make the move tight ends even a little bit less dep- a little
- 45:34bit more depressed than it would be.
- 45:35That's just my take on the trends and what's going on.
- 45:38With all that being said, look, I was not a huge fan of the pick
- 45:42last year, and I'm really warming up to what I see with Arroyo.
- 45:45and this is also training camp stuff and the mismatches that I
- 45:49think Fleury can create with him.
- 45:51Adam: Yeah, for sure.
- 45:51It'll be interesting to see as a whole league-wide what happens this year with,
- 45:55the tight end position, because after Sean McVay invented 13 personnels,
- 45:59we all know- then, you know, I, I think you're gonna see a lot more
- 46:04tight end usage, and we'll see if that, sweeps the league in the way that,
- 46:08a lot of people seem to think.
- 46:10So it'll be interesting.
- 46:11Clinton: One more topic I think is fun.
- 46:12We got Sean Scotchman saying, "Our fullbacks or fullback were quiet tonight."
- 46:16Yeah.
- 46:16We saw Lampey late, and Lampey had a hold, which I'm not sure was a hold.
- 46:20We didn't get a great angle at it.
- 46:22Adam: Yeah
- 46:22… Clinton: looked like, I, I, I'm not sure if it was.
- 46:24But I thought Brady Russell, look, I was very bummed when we lost Ouzts because I
- 46:29think we lost a different type of fullback with a different type of size and explos-
- 46:34explosiveness, 'cause he's 275 and he, and he actually jumps out the building.
- 46:37He has power that these other guys don't have that are at 250
- 46:41who are not quite the athletes.
- 46:43But I thought Brady Russell looked good.
- 46:45I- and the, he, he early, with the first couple of drives where Fleury was cooking
- 46:50his very most, I thought they were using Brady Russell quite effectively.
- 46:54So maybe it was quiet, but quiet effective fullback is still effective fullback.
- 47:00Adam: Yeah, not a position that, you know, really jumps off the screen
- 47:04a lot to, especially casual football fans and, and that sort of thing.
- 47:08Look, Brady puts his hat in there and, you know, gives it his best effort when
- 47:12he gets in the hole and all that, but he doesn't have the size and he's not gonna
- 47:17be able to dig out linebackers and really do the job that way like maybe Ouzts could.
- 47:23And that's something you've been talking about for,
- 47:26since the Ouzts injury, right?
- 47:27Yeah.
- 47:27And I, and I do think you're right, especially seeing him, a little
- 47:31more with the starters, in the first two preseason games.
- 47:36But what Brady Russell does have is a background in the
- 47:38tight end room as well, right?
- 47:40Mm-hmm.
- 47:40And we saw him have a catch in this game and nearly have another,
- 47:44you know, as, as Locke was, scrambling around a little bit.
- 47:47And I think that if you're gonna use Brady Russell as your starting fullback
- 47:52on the regular this season, I think one of the things that you're gonna have to
- 47:55lean into a little bit is his ability to g- catch the ball, a little more
- 47:59like Ouzts than maybe like having him as like a Lorenzo Neal type- Yeah
- 48:04just going down there and just digging out linebackers.
- 48:06Clinton: I'd like to see that.
- 48:07It'd be, it'd be a cool thing to- to adopt, if we're gonna get more
- 48:11of the Shanahan-type stuff with Fleury, some of that stuff
- 48:14could be really, really effective.
- 48:15The half orbits and things like that, that Juschek started doing, which
- 48:19kind of came from the college game and actually got, got over to,- Yeah
- 48:21to the West Coast, which we saw Lampe actually do over in, what?
- 48:24Northern Illinois.
- 48:25all right.
- 48:26So- You did.
- 48:27Adam: I didn't.
- 48:27Clinton: Okay.
- 48:28Well, I did watch his highlights, and he does some of that
- 48:31Adam: stuff- Yeah … right?
- 48:31Clinton: So.
- 48:31Okay.
- 48:31and all right.
- 48:32Look, we're heading into Kansas City, and this is kind of a, a quick turnaround,
- 48:36'cause it, I think Kansas City game is, I think, earlier, this week
- 48:40than obviously playing on Sunday night this week, with the Titans game.
- 48:44what's…
- 48:45If you had to say, hey, the, the one pos- p- take Jason
- 48:48Myers out of it for a second.
- 48:49We wanna see Jason Myers- Okay … put the ball through the, through the
- 48:51freaking uprights, and stop with the yips and pushing everything right.
- 48:54So let's suspend that for a second.
- 48:56Yeah.
- 48:56What's the one last battle/main area, like I really wanna focus on this
- 49:01as we head into the Chiefs game?
- 49:04Adam: Ooh, that's a good question.
- 49:07I think, I, because we're not g- I don't think we're gonna see the ones.
- 49:11I, I, I really don't.
- 49:12Clinton: Mm, yeah.
- 49:13I don't
- 49:13Adam: know.
- 49:13So I, I would like to see Foster put together a clean game.
- 49:17I, I think that would be something that would be really cool to see.
- 49:20I'd like to see them maybe feature Arroyo a little bit more, get the ball in
- 49:24his hands and, and see what happens there.
- 49:27Well- I feel pretty good about what we've seen out of some of the,
- 49:31the line and stuff to this point.
- 49:33is the, the twos anyways.
- 49:35Clinton: Yeah.
- 49:35Yeah, yeah.
- 49:36For sure.
- 49:36Yeah.
- 49:36The twos on both sides were good tonight.
- 49:38You know?
- 49:38Yeah.
- 49:38They, they were, they were…
- 49:40And sometimes dominant, right?
- 49:41There was a, a stretch there where the defense was giving them absolutely
- 49:46nothing, and again, it was, it was a muff punt that let them back in the game.
- 49:49But you mentioned Arroyo.
- 49:50I wanna go back to him for a second.
- 49:52at this point, w- wouldn't you be okay if Arroyo didn't
- 49:56take a snap against Kansas City?
- 49:58Like, does he need to?
- 49:59And just like let- Yeah, he's the
- 49:59Adam: prior, right?
- 50:00Clinton: Like let Venette, Saubert, and others do the…
- 50:03And I, I don't even want s- I mean, Saubert to me is a very
- 50:05good blocking tight end, and I value blocking tight ends.
- 50:07Mm-hmm.
- 50:08But I mean, can't we just figure other dudes out there, than kind
- 50:11of put him in bubble wrap with Barner and say, "Hey, you two guys, y- you
- 50:15know, just take your shirt off."
- 50:17Not, not- Yeah … like this.
- 50:18Take your pads off, you know?
- 50:19And, and kind of enjoy, enjoy the game.
- 50:22I think I'd rather see that with Arroyo.
- 50:24He's p- he's not going anywhere.
- 50:25He's gonna be a, a factor this year, so-
- 50:28Adam: Yeah
- 50:28… Clinton: I'd, I'd rather put him on the shelf.
- 50:29You're
- 50:29Adam: probably right.
- 50:30That's probably the smarter play.
- 50:31that makes a lot of sense.
- 50:33But when you…
- 50:33You kind of framed the question, what was really going through my
- 50:36mind, Clinton, is that, by the time I got halfway through the third
- 50:39quarter of this game, I was like, "Oh, I forget this happens every year."
- 50:43Pre-season Week 1 comes along, I'm so fired up I can barely stand it
- 50:46because I've been going through a football, you know, withdrawal
- 50:49for the entire off-season.
- 50:50Clinton: Yeah.
- 50:51Adam: Love pre-season Week 1, like really get into it, all that.
- 50:54Then pre-season Week 2 rolls around, you get to watch, you know, some of your upper
- 50:58tier players for a couple drives if you're lucky, and then, it devolves into
- 51:03pre-season football by the second half.
- 51:05And, I didn't wanna watch it.
- 51:07Yeah.
- 51:08I didn't wanna watch it.
- 51:09I wa- I was so over.
- 51:10I cannot wait for the regular season.
- 51:11So what do I wanna see in KC?
- 51:13no more injuries and, like r- moving on to week one.
- 51:17We're on to week one.
- 51:18Clinton: Yeah.
- 51:18We got a couple of good, comments here, too.
- 51:20Michael Knight saying, "That's easy," so answering the question I posed
- 51:23saying Pl- "Jalen play well," and then backing it up, Sean Scotchman
- 51:26says, "Milroe play with the twos."
- 51:28So hey- I
- 51:29Adam: think that would be interesting
- 51:30… Clinton: you know, like, just flip it.
- 51:31Let, let Milroe take the first half with the twos and, and see if it's, if
- 51:35he could fare, you know, just fare better than he did, than he did tonight.
- 51:39I think the thing for me is still watching, I think now Haynes has
- 51:42stacked a couple of good weeks in a row.
- 51:44Now we lose Richmond, which sucks.
- 51:46and just watching, watching the guards.
- 51:50Watching them and be like, "Okay, who, who's gonna Even at this point, like, I
- 51:53feel like you could, you know, you gotta play some dudes, but you have enough guys
- 51:57there where I think Haynes has actually done enough to be like, maybe just…
- 52:01We can't lose another.
- 52:03We just lost our second string left guard.
- 52:06It sucks.
- 52:06We don't wanna lose our second string right guard because
- 52:09we're getting thin early.
- 52:11But, that's the area I'm gonna watch for sure.
- 52:14Yeah.
- 52:14I really like what I saw from Peely.
- 52:16I'd be very happy if they bubble wrap Peely.
- 52:19It's like, okay, you won the nose tackle position, I value the nose tackle.
- 52:24You, you don't need to play anymore.
- 52:25And I'm looking around, I mean, I don't know, Chris Paul played a really
- 52:28good game, in my opinion, tonight.
- 52:30And I guess the other place is just, again, you mentioned earlier, Fuller
- 52:34had a couple of nice, nice breakups.
- 52:36Couple of- Mm-hmm … couple of gaffes, but played well.
- 52:39Can Dansby still be effective?
- 52:41And like, Deanthony Bell is now gonna be squarely battling for a safety
- 52:46position with Bud Clark's injury.
- 52:47Adam: Yeah.
- 52:48Clinton: And, but he's, but they have him out there late in the fourth quarter.
- 52:51Late, late, late.
- 52:52So it's like, that tells me the coaches are not just handing it over to him, and
- 52:56there's still a real, real battle there.
- 52:58So, kind of that battle for what the, the Bud Clark vacancy will
- 53:01bring, I think will be one of the major storylines of the week, too.
- 53:06Adam: Yeah.
- 53:06It, it should be interesting, and we'll see how the team adapts.
- 53:09If there's one thing I'm s- completely confident in is Coach Mike's ability
- 53:13to, figure out who he's gonna wanna use there, and all of that, for sure.
- 53:17so a couple people in the comments, you know, in respect to Milroe,
- 53:21being like, "Well, maybe a full game of Milroe," and I think that that
- 53:25could be something positive as well.
- 53:27I still think overall, if you look at his two games here in comparison to last
- 53:33year, like, a lot of the comments I see about Milroe, like, "Oh, he looks lost.
- 53:37He's slow," like, all this stuff, right?
- 53:39Like yeah, that was very true last year.
- 53:41I, I, I, I see overall improvement.
- 53:44Are we a finished product?
- 53:46No.
- 53:47No.
- 53:48Like, those two picks were fricking terrible.
- 53:50Like, they were, those are awful.
- 53:52you gotta own those.
- 53:54Yeah … but I, I do see some, some growth from Jalen, and it would
- 53:58be cool to see him for a full game, and maybe get him with a higher quality
- 54:03surrounding cast for at least a quarter
- 54:06Clinton: Yeah.
- 54:07I think, I think that's, that feels about right.
- 54:09And again, we might get a drive or two of Sam and the ones.
- 54:12That's, it's possible that they'll go out there and say, "Hey-"
- 54:15I
- 54:15Clinton: mean- "… go, go take a drive or two."
- 54:16I'm, I'm also I'm very okay if we don't.
- 54:20I'm totally confident in what the ones have.
- 54:22I don't need to see JSN out there.
- 54:24I don't need to see Barnard.
- 54:25I don't need to see Sam.
- 54:27In fact, I would vote not to, because the game means nothing,
- 54:30and go get ready for the Patriots.
- 54:32Well, that was fun, man.
- 54:32We, it's a first half, I'll take everything away from the first
- 54:36half and then kind of suspend.
- 54:38Second half, while it wasn't great and it was choppy, there were still moments
- 54:42that, that brought me some delight and some really nice plays by individuals.
- 54:47But the second half was just like, to me, like, you, you
- 54:50could, you could dump most of it.
- 54:52Adam: Yeah,
- 54:52Clinton: bad football.
- 54:53Yeah.
- 54:53It's, it's bad, bad football.
- 54:54But what's not bad is, of course, we had Ryan911 coming in with a 999 Super Chat.
- 54:59We had Got Zero Hawk coming in with a $10 Super Chat, and we
- 55:02had other folks like Chewy938, who's been a member for 34 months.
- 55:06He actually said- Is that awesome?
- 55:07Yeah, he came in and said, "Milroe was no good tonight.
- 55:09I didn't get to honor this earlier.
- 55:11Can we trade him for a DB?
- 55:12Hope Bud Clark is okay."
- 55:14Oh.
- 55:14Bud Clark's not okay, and we're not, we're not trading Milroe, you
- 55:18know, not this, not this off season.
- 55:19But really good comments, really, really good stuff.
- 55:22We had a lot of fun.
- 55:23It's- I- it's, I just wanna see…
- 55:27I mean, at this point, man, I, I really wanna see Seattle just get
- 55:30to the New England game as healthy as they possibly can get there.
- 55:34Yep.
- 55:34And that's really, frankly, all that matters at this point.
- 55:37We can't take more depth pieces.
- 55:41And like you said, we didn't lose a queen off the board, we didn't lose a rook off
- 55:44the board, but dude, we're losing pawns.
- 55:47Yeah.
- 55:47And, and, and they matter in the, the full game, the full season.
- 55:51And in some cases, maybe we're losing dudes that might have been even
- 55:55more pawn, even more important than a, than a pawn if we're, you know,
- 55:58continuing the chess analogy here.
- 56:00So, let's get, let's get through Kansas City, stay healthy, and just
- 56:05watch Fleury continue to find his way with this offense because, again, the,
- 56:11besides Myers, the biggest takeaway for me was the beginning of the game,
- 56:15I thought Fleury looked, and then the team looked really crisp, and
- 56:19that to me is really encouraging.
- 56:21Adam: Yeah.
- 56:21a- and just with the Myers thing, like, if you're not a Tin Cup fan, none
- 56:25of the, my jokes make sense about it.
- 56:27But, like- … he's gotta stop thinking about the doctor lady, and like,
- 56:30we need to get him out of his head.
- 56:32it, why it scares me so much, Clinton, is, the Shanks are like a virus.
- 56:37They just come- Mm
- 56:38out of nowhere, and you know how weird kickers are mentally.
- 56:42So I wanna see him come out, I wanna see the, you know, twos and threes come out,
- 56:47and put a spanking on the Chiefs, Myers kick it right down the middle, end the
- 56:51preseason with a dub, and be healthy, and go and kick the snot out of the
- 56:56Patriots, who seem to think that they're way better than they were last year.
- 56:58Clinton: Yeah.
- 56:59I could get behind all that, and I think with that-
- 57:01Adam: There's only one thing left to say
- 57:03Clinton: Go Hawks.
- 57:04Adam: Go Hawks.
