- 0:00Aloha. It's Friday morning. I'm Mele with what's happening in Hawaiʻi today.
- 1:39Friday and Saturday are your best window for beach weather. Light winds, mostly dry skies across all islands — a few afternoon clouds over the mountains, but rain will be rare. This is solid for outdoor plans. If you're heading to a leeward beach, make the most of today and tomorrow before conditions shift.
- 1:54Surf is small and manageable right now. Oʻahu south shore is 3 feet, north shore 2.7 feet. Kauaʻi's at 3.1 feet. Kāʻanapali on Maui is 2.2 feet. The Big Island is glassy at 1.1 feet. Today is a swim day — comfortable for snorkelers and beginners. That changes when south-facing shores see larger swell moving in.
- 2:10At Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park, Kahuku Unit Roads and Kīpukapuaulu Trail are closed due to hazard work, and the Lava Tube Bridge is under replacement. Kīlauea remains at advisory level — if you're hiking exposed areas, protect yourself from volcanic ash. Everything else across the parks is operating normally.
- 2:26If you're thinking about a scenic flight but helicopters feel expensive or loud, our new piece covers gliders, biplanes, and small fixed-wing tours. They cost less, run quieter, and reach the same coastlines. Depending on which island you're on, you've got real options beyond the standard helicopter tour.
- 2:41Sunday through mid-week, humidity builds and showers increase on windward slopes. A south swell arrives Sunday and peaks Monday, with strong runup and minor coastal flooding possible during high tides early next week.
- 2:52If shade is your beach priority, we have an island-by-island guide on how to find it. Talk to you tomorrow.
