- 0:10Speaker 1: Hey, what's up everybody. Welcome into this edition of to
- 0:12Speaker 1: check Odaily. It's Andrew de Checko from Inside the Birds
- 0:16Speaker 1: dot Com and today I want to talk a little
- 0:19Speaker 1: bit about the upcoming trade deadline. And by the way,
- 0:23Speaker 1: after the trade deadline, anyone who is released is subjected
- 0:28Speaker 1: to waivers, whether you're a veteran or not, so there's
- 0:32Speaker 1: a big distinction there. I just wanted to throw that
- 0:34Speaker 1: out there before I forget to mention it. I feel
- 0:37Speaker 1: it's important to note every single season that I have
- 0:40Speaker 1: these conversations. But the trade deadline and what could that
- 0:44Speaker 1: potentially mean for the photo off Eagles. Well, there's a
- 0:47Speaker 1: number of positions that I think are worth considering. Now
- 0:51Speaker 1: to what degree, Well, I'm going to sort of map
- 0:54Speaker 1: it out at least how I view it, what I
- 0:56Speaker 1: view to be the most important, and we'll go from that.
- 1:01Speaker 1: The most important for me is edge rusher. The Eagles
- 1:06Speaker 1: were able to dominate the New York Giants and they
- 1:09Speaker 1: produce five sacks in that game. But if you think
- 1:12Speaker 1: about it, Zach Bond had one and there were three
- 1:16Speaker 1: from the interior. Jalen Carter, Moro Jomo and Jordan Davis
- 1:20Speaker 1: had one. Jordan Davis, by the way, has three on
- 1:23Speaker 1: the season, which is just tremendous, But they haven't gotten
- 1:27Speaker 1: a ton from their edge group, and when you look
- 1:30Speaker 1: at the current iteration of what they have to work with,
- 1:33Speaker 1: sure there's reinforcements on the way in Brandon Graham and
- 1:36Speaker 1: Nolan Smith, but for me, they still need to add
- 1:39Speaker 1: another piece because then it allows Nolan Smith to play
- 1:45Speaker 1: reduced snaps and keep his body as fresh as possible
- 1:48Speaker 1: and preserve him for the stretch run. The way that
- 1:51Speaker 1: he plays the game, it lends itself to constantly being
- 1:55Speaker 1: nicked up. It's also what makes him such an impactful player.
- 1:58Speaker 1: So it's kind of a double edged sword there. Jay
- 2:00Speaker 1: looks Hunt, you can kind of reduce some of his snaps,
- 2:03Speaker 1: Josh jushe and go on down the line. We'll see
- 2:06Speaker 1: what it means for someone like a Patrick Johnson, who
- 2:08Speaker 1: I think has given good effort, good snaps. Vik Vanjaio
- 2:11Speaker 1: is really high on him and he's an excellent special teamer.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Brandon Graham, of course, will be coming onto the fifty
- 2:18Speaker 1: three man roster and that's gonna be an addition that
- 2:22Speaker 1: is gonna be interesting to see how it unfolds. And
- 2:25Speaker 1: what BG ultimately can provide in terms of output. But
- 2:29Speaker 1: I think they still need to add another body. Now
- 2:32Speaker 1: who that is. We'll have to see if the Eagles
- 2:36Speaker 1: are looking to add to that defensive group.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Hey, I still like a good night out, but I'm
- 2:40Speaker 2: not always in the mood to drink. And that's why

- 4:08Speaker 1: I have to think that going back to the team's
- 4:10Speaker 1: philosophical approach and what they tend to value, that's trench play,
- 4:15Speaker 1: and specifically in this case, I would think that edge
- 4:18Speaker 1: would be the most prudent, especially given the the youth
- 4:25Speaker 1: in that room. It's very it's youthful, and a lot
- 4:28Speaker 1: of these players haven't been asked to play a ton
- 4:30Speaker 1: of snaps in their career. So adding another player, and
- 4:33Speaker 1: I'm not suggesting it has to be a headliner like
- 4:36Speaker 1: a Trey Hendrickson or someone to that effect, but they
- 4:40Speaker 1: could certainly stand to add someone who's played a decent
- 4:44Speaker 1: portion of the snaps you're in and year out, they've
- 4:47Speaker 1: been a productive player, and then it alleviates some of
- 4:50Speaker 1: the pressure from the two younger players. So I believe
- 4:53Speaker 1: are more than capable of doing it. But just for
- 4:55Speaker 1: optionality purposes, just for preservation purposes, I do think that
- 4:59Speaker 1: that group needs to be bolstered. And I don't think
- 5:02Speaker 1: that you can look at the Giants game and say, yeah,
- 5:04Speaker 1: they're okay, they can get to the quarterback. They don't
- 5:07Speaker 1: need to add anybody there, they're good. You have to
- 5:10Speaker 1: take the full complement of games, all eight games into
- 5:14Speaker 1: the equation here when you're really assessing the edge group.
- 5:18Speaker 1: Maybe I'm wrong, maybe they are going to be fine there.
- 5:20Speaker 1: But I think if you're looking at three positions and
- 5:24Speaker 1: I have them sort of slotted in my mind that
- 5:26Speaker 1: I feel to be the most important, that is at
- 5:30Speaker 1: the top of the list for me. Next on the
- 5:32Speaker 1: list would be backup offensive lineman. The reason being is
- 5:38Speaker 1: that the Eagles offensive line is playing through a lot
- 5:41Speaker 1: of injuries. They're not at full strength, and they haven't
- 5:44Speaker 1: been at full strength all season. Cam Jurgens is dealing
- 5:47Speaker 1: with the knee Landon Dickerson's been banged up all season long.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Jordan Mailatta hadn't mentioned a couple months ago. I believe,
- 5:55Speaker 1: dating back to the summer that he was still maybe
- 5:58Speaker 1: working through some things or or working through that, I
- 6:02Speaker 1: guess the rigors of the previous season. Lane Johnson had
- 6:05Speaker 1: a stinger earlier in the year. Tyler Stein's been healthy,
- 6:09Speaker 1: but he hasn't had to play a lot in his career.
- 6:11Speaker 1: He's also younger, so he's sort of a little bit
- 6:16Speaker 1: more fresh than maybe some of the other players. But
- 6:19Speaker 1: I think when you look at beyond that, Brett Toath
- 6:23Speaker 1: did a tremendous job and a commendable job piloting the
- 6:27Speaker 1: offensive line Sunday against the Giants, and he deserves a
- 6:31Speaker 1: lot of recognition, and I think he kind of reinforces
- 6:34Speaker 1: why the Eagles have a lot of confidence in him
- 6:37Speaker 1: as a backup offensive lineman. But beyond that, Fred Johnson
- 6:41Speaker 1: is another player that they can count on on game day.
- 6:45Speaker 1: He's been the sixth offensive lineman. He played a number
- 6:47Speaker 1: of snaps in jumbo package on Sunday, even a few
- 6:51Speaker 1: against the Vikings, and that's something that I believe the
- 6:53Speaker 1: Eagles can lean on moving forward and implement that to
- 6:56Speaker 1: the offense. But beyond that, there's a lot of questions
- 7:00Speaker 1: that I have in terms of viable depth pieces. And
- 7:05Speaker 1: I think that my urgency on this stems from just
- 7:09Speaker 1: the beaten up nature of the offensive line and you
- 7:12Speaker 1: want to have as many capable options behind them without
- 7:15Speaker 1: having to, I guess, alter the offense or have it hindered,
- 7:22Speaker 1: have it be hindered in any way. And Matt Pryor
- 7:25Speaker 1: is a player who the Eagles signed in free agency.
- 7:28Speaker 1: He played over a thousand snaps last season for the
- 7:31Speaker 1: Chicago Bears, but he's mostly been a right side guy,
- 7:34Speaker 1: and when he had to go in against the Rams,
- 7:36Speaker 1: he didn't look very good. And I don't know how
- 7:38Speaker 1: comfortable the Eagles would be putting him in there in
- 7:41Speaker 1: a critical moment. They have Drew Kendall, who's a rookie
- 7:45Speaker 1: and played his first offensive snaps against the Giants, played
- 7:48Speaker 1: four snaps second game that he was active, but he's
- 7:51Speaker 1: clearly not ready to step in if the situation calls
- 7:58Speaker 1: for it. And then you know, you have a couple
- 8:02Speaker 1: of rookies who are on the injured reserve list. They
- 8:06Speaker 1: just don't have a lot of players that they can
- 8:10Speaker 1: hang their hat on in terms of reserve offensive line
- 8:12Speaker 1: that you can plug them in and then feel confident
- 8:14Speaker 1: that they can go out there and the offense is
- 8:16Speaker 1: will be able to get off without a hitch. I
- 8:18Speaker 1: think you can count on well, I know you can
- 8:20Speaker 1: count on Toth, and I know you can count on
- 8:22Speaker 1: Fred Johnson. Matt Pryor is a bit of a question mark,
- 8:25Speaker 1: and so is Drew Kendall being a rookie. But he's
- 8:28Speaker 1: certainly someone in Kendall that they're going to want to
- 8:30Speaker 1: continue to develop and work with. But I'm not so
- 8:33Speaker 1: sure that he's going to often factor into the game
- 8:36Speaker 1: day equation.
- 8:37Speaker 3: Hey, Philly fans, game day is stressful enough. Parking, traffic,
- 8:41Speaker 3: long lines, We've all been there, But when it comes
- 8:44Speaker 3: to your cannabis, Camden Apothecary makes it easy. This is
- 8:48Speaker 3: the dispensary for sports fans, just minutes outside of Philly,
- 8:53Speaker 3: with plenty of free parking. You'll be in and out fast,
- 8:56Speaker 3: no hassle, no waiting, and they don't just care about convenience.
- 9:00Speaker 3: Camped In Apothecary is all about the guest experience. Their
- 9:04Speaker 3: staff makes sure you feel taken care of every time
- 9:07Speaker 3: you walk in. Plus they carry only the best quality
- 9:10Speaker 3: cannabis at the fairest prices, So whether you're stocking up
- 9:14Speaker 3: for the tailgate, the watch party, or celebrating a big win,
- 9:18Speaker 3: you know you're getting the good stuff without overpaying. They
- 9:22Speaker 3: even show love to the community with specials for fans, students,
- 9:26Speaker 3: service members, and healthcare pros. Cam din Apothecary top quality cannabis,
- 9:32Speaker 3: great prices, and an experience made for Philly fans twenty
- 9:35Speaker 3: one and up.
- 9:37Speaker 1: Unless injuries dictated, he's getting to be This is more
- 9:41Speaker 1: so a learning season for him, but you do need
- 9:44Speaker 1: to have another lineman that I believe that you can.
- 9:47Speaker 1: You can plug in and for Jeff Satlin to feel
- 9:51Speaker 1: comfortable if injuries arise. So backup offensive linement is two
- 9:57Speaker 1: and then final for me. Number three might surprise some
- 10:00Speaker 1: folks because it's not higher on my list, but it's cornerback.
- 10:04Speaker 1: Cornerback is a little bit lower because I believe that
- 10:08Speaker 1: if you rectify the pass rusher, you bolster it, that
- 10:11Speaker 1: helps the back end and you're able to kind of
- 10:13Speaker 1: marry the rush and the cover aspect of the defense.
- 10:17Speaker 1: The other point is is that the Eagles have three
- 10:19Speaker 1: corners who have played defensive snaps for them, or at
- 10:24Speaker 1: least profile as being a long term number two option
- 10:30Speaker 1: this season, and that's a Dori Jackson, Keeley Ringo and
- 10:33Speaker 1: Jakooryan Bennett. Adding another player to the mix sort of
- 10:37Speaker 1: muddies the waters. And you don't really even really know
- 10:40Speaker 1: what you have in Jakorean Bennett yet. So how can
- 10:42Speaker 1: you hastily go and add another player unless this is
- 10:46Speaker 1: a big unless they are a surefire upgrade over what
- 10:50Speaker 1: you have, like Arik Wohen for example, isn't so much
- 10:55Speaker 1: of an upgrade that it would be worth bringing him
- 10:57Speaker 1: in having to teach him the offense, And maybe it
- 11:01Speaker 1: takes a couple of weeks for you know, Vic Vangio
- 11:03Speaker 1: and Eagles to get comfortable putting him in there. I'm
- 11:06Speaker 1: just throwing him out there as an example because his
- 11:08Speaker 1: name's floated around. But yeah, I mean, I think they
- 11:11Speaker 1: have enough there that they should be able to piecemeal
- 11:14Speaker 1: it together. Land On whoever you believe is the most competent,
- 11:18Speaker 1: the most consistent of that trio and make do with that.
- 11:22Speaker 1: You're not going to be able to alleviate all your
- 11:24Speaker 1: problems or address all of your perceived deficiencies in a
- 11:29Speaker 1: trade deadline one. It takes two to tango. But there's
- 11:33Speaker 1: also so much parody in today's NFL that there's going
- 11:36Speaker 1: to be a lot of teams that are still in
- 11:38Speaker 1: it that are going to be in the mix, I
- 11:40Speaker 1: imagine during the trade deadline. So it's not always as
- 11:43Speaker 1: simple as saying, well, Howie Roseman will be aggressive and
- 11:45Speaker 1: he'll go get player X. You know, there's a lot
- 11:48Speaker 1: more that goes into it. So you can go into
- 11:51Speaker 1: the trade deadline and approach it in a way where
- 11:53Speaker 1: you want to make an upgrade, but it has to
- 11:55Speaker 1: make sense from a compensation standpoint. But also there's other
- 12:00Speaker 1: teams that maybe are willing to pony up a little
- 12:02Speaker 1: bit more. So I think if you have to whittle
- 12:04Speaker 1: it down, it would be edge rusher top of the
- 12:07Speaker 1: need for me backup offensive linemen, and then cornerback. I'm
- 12:12Speaker 1: sure there are a lot of folks out there who
- 12:14Speaker 1: might differ on that, but they're all needs. It's just
- 12:16Speaker 1: a matter of where you prioritize. And I just think
- 12:19Speaker 1: adding an edge rusher and bolstering that group so you
- 12:22Speaker 1: can send players in waves take some of the pressure
- 12:25Speaker 1: off the back end. And you even saw against the Giants,
- 12:28Speaker 1: the Eagles were pressuring Jackson Dart so much so that
- 12:33Speaker 1: you hardly notice keithy Ringo is even out there. Now.
- 12:35Speaker 1: I understand that not every team's going to be the
- 12:37Speaker 1: New York Giants, but it just goes to show you
- 12:40Speaker 1: the impact that a good rush can have on the secondary.
- 12:43Speaker 1: Or you can kind of mask a player if you're
- 12:46Speaker 1: not necessarily I guess, if you're not overwhelmed with what
- 12:51Speaker 1: they can bring, or if they're sort of when you
- 12:54Speaker 1: look at your secondary and they're a player that you
- 12:57Speaker 1: know is going to be targeted every week, well, if
- 12:59Speaker 1: you're a toy to bear down on the quarterback, that's
- 13:02Speaker 1: something that you can sort of you can kind of
- 13:05Speaker 1: mask that player. So just my thoughts here as we're
- 13:08Speaker 1: fast approaching this trade deadline, there's a lot of there's
- 13:12Speaker 1: a lot of scenarios. There's a lot of ways that
- 13:15Speaker 1: the Eagles could go or not go. They could like
- 13:17Speaker 1: their roster the way it is right now. They could
- 13:19Speaker 1: be really intrigued with some of the younger players and
- 13:23Speaker 1: be infatuated with those who are coming back because they
- 13:26Speaker 1: are getting a number of reinforcements that it may preclude
- 13:29Speaker 1: them from being aggressive at the deadline. The great thing
- 13:33Speaker 1: about it is we're gonna find out. Well, that's going
- 13:36Speaker 1: to do it. For this edition of the Checko Deily,
- 13:39Speaker 1: I'm Andrew to Checko and I will catch you on
- 13:41Speaker 1: the next one.
