- 0:13- Welcome to the divine five fifteen
- 0:16- podcast. Here is this week's devotional.
- 0:19- Hello, and welcome to daily prayers with Valerie
- 0:23- Rocha.
- 0:25- This month of October, we are addressing
- 0:30- how
- 0:31- to let
- 0:32- go by making room for what God is
- 0:34- doing next.
- 0:36- Now we wanna start
- 0:38- this series by saying that sometimes moving forward
- 0:41- with God requires releasing what we've been carrying,
- 0:43- and that's not always an easy thing.
- 0:46- And so this month, what we want to
- 0:48- focus on
- 0:50- is
- 0:51- not giving up, but surrendering the hurt control
- 0:55- disappointment. And even those past seasons that can
- 0:59- keep us from fully embracing where God is
- 1:02- leading us next
- 1:04- throughout this series, we'll learn what biblical surrender
- 1:07- looks like and how prayer helps us release
- 1:09- what we've been holding
- 1:10- onto
- 1:11- because sometimes the next step isn't about doing
- 1:15- more.
- 1:16- It's more about
- 1:18- making room.
- 1:21- So
- 1:21- scripture texts
- 1:23- today, it comes from Hebrews twelve and one.
- 1:25- It says, let us throw off everything that
- 1:29- hinders
- 1:30- and the sin that so easily entangles.
- 1:34- So we wanna
- 1:36- continue the conversation by always addressing the problem,
- 1:39- which is that some things become heavy simply
- 1:41- because we've carried them way too long.
- 1:44- It's an issue
- 1:46- of normalization or comfortability.
- 1:50- Those past disappointments,
- 1:52- maybe it's words someone said,
- 1:55- mistakes we can't undo,
- 1:58- Or what about expectations that weren't fulfilled
- 2:02- and relationships
- 2:04- that changed when you were hoping that
- 2:07- they would stay the same?
- 2:09- Yes. We've learned how to function while carrying
- 2:12- them.
- 2:13- So it's not surprising that after a while,
- 2:16- we don't even recognize the weight,
- 2:19- but
- 2:21- just because you've learned how to carry something,
- 2:23- doesn't mean God intends for you to keep
- 2:26- carrying it.
- 2:29- So
- 2:30- the idea of letting go can feel like
- 2:32- losing control.
- 2:35- Sometimes the pain has been with us so
- 2:37- long that releasing it
- 2:39- feels unfamiliar.
- 2:42- And at other times, we're waiting for an
- 2:45- apology and explanation or an outcome that may
- 2:48- never come.
- 2:50- I think it's just easier to point the
- 2:52- finger at someone else than to assume our
- 2:55- responsibility.
- 2:56- But, hey, what are you gonna do? It's
- 2:58- part of the human nature. Right?
- 3:00- So
- 3:01- we hold on.
- 3:03- But Hebrews tells us to throw off everything
- 3:06- that hinders.
- 3:08- And yet not everything we carry is sinful,
- 3:12- but it may not help us grow.
- 3:16- And yet
- 3:17- some things are simply too heavy to take
- 3:20- where God is leading us.
- 3:23- So the power of prayer
- 3:26- is that it gives us a place to
- 3:28- name what we're carrying,
- 3:30- which requires courage, by the way.
- 3:33- So
- 3:34- instead of saying I'm fine, which
- 3:37- is just another way of saying I don't
- 3:39- wanna talk about it or leave me alone
- 3:41- or,
- 3:42- you know, fill in the blank. Right.
- 3:46- We can come honestly before God and say,
- 3:49- father,
- 3:50- this is still bothering me, or this is
- 3:52- still hurting me.
- 3:54- I'm still disappointed.
- 3:57- I'm still angry.
- 4:00- I'm still holding onto
- 4:03- what happened.
- 4:06- Now, the key here is to remember that
- 4:08- surrender
- 4:09- begins with honesty
- 4:12- and honesty first comes
- 4:14- with oneself
- 4:16- and sometimes freedom begins when we finally place
- 4:20- into God's hands what we've been carrying in
- 4:24- ours.
- 4:26- That being said, let's pray.
- 4:30- Heavenly father, show me what I've been carrying
- 4:34- that you never
- 4:36- intended me to keep.
- 4:38- Give me courage to release the hurt,
- 4:42- disappointment, and weight of the past.
- 4:45- I place it into your hands and trust
- 4:48- you with what I cannot change.
- 4:51- Make room in my heart for what you're
- 4:53- doing next.
- 4:55- And I will bless you in Jesus name.
- 4:59- Well, in this week's kingdom invitation,
- 5:02- I would like to challenge you to ask
- 5:05- yourself,
- 5:06- what am I carrying that has become too
- 5:08- heavy?
- 5:11- Name it,
- 5:12- pray about it,
- 5:13- then begin releasing it.
- 5:17- Sounds easy,
- 5:19- but you can do it. It's a lot
- 5:21- ease... It's a lot easier said than done.
- 5:26- And if you desire a community where you
- 5:28- can grow in prayer and know others are
- 5:30- praying with you,
- 5:32- I'd like to invite you into the inner
- 5:34- prayer chamber community.

- 5:46- message,
- 5:47- share this episode with them. They may be
- 5:49- carrying something heavy too.
- 5:52- And until next time,
- 5:54- leave at the throne what you were never
- 5:56- meant to carry away.
