  another character in Marvel Comics that is actually a
• 0:21
  mutant. Surprise surprise.

  And today I want to talk about Warlock.

  So who is Warlock? Warlock first appeared in New
• 0:28
  mutants #18 Warlock is an alien from a place called Kvich.
• 0:33
  It's Kvich. It's.
• 0:36
  It's a weird word, but what can you do it?
• 0:39
  It's somewhere out in deep space, so it's not like you're
• 0:42
  ever going to visit his whole race.
• 0:45
  The Technarchy is made of living techno, organic material,
• 0:49
  basically sentient beings who look like a mix of machinery and
• 0:56
  circuitry. So it's he is a weird looking
• 1:00
  dude, but there's no other way to go about it.
• 1:03
  He is an odd 1. The Technarchy.
• 1:05
  They reproduce in huge numbers, raising their kids in a Krish.
• 1:10
  Though the process definitely isn't anything like how life
• 1:13
  works on earth. For the Technarchy, survival is
• 1:16
  simple and brutal. Every child has to fight their
• 1:19
  parent to the death. Either the kid wins and earns
• 1:22
  the right to exist, or the parent kills the kid instead.
• 1:26
  So there's that. Warlock was the son of Magus who
• 1:31
  ruled their world and was basically the strongest being
• 1:34
  around. He was the big dog, he was the
• 1:36
  big man on campus. Warlock realized he was
• 1:39
  different, mutant even when he discovered he didn't want to
• 1:43
  kill his father, he it's just not his thing.
• 1:47
  Since that kind of compassion was seen as defective, he
• 1:50
  panicked, fled Kovitch, and his father took off after him.
• 1:55
  Warlock eventually crash landed near Earth, first plowing right
• 1:59
  through Asteroid M, which is Magneto's old base in space,
• 2:03
  destroying it completely. He finally came down near
• 2:06
  Xavier's mansion, drawn in by the powerful Shiartek.
• 2:10
  The X-Men kept there. The mansion was home to the
• 2:14
  X-Men and the New Mutants. Warlock, totally overwhelmed and
• 2:18
  terrified, ran into the New Mutants and accidentally fought
• 2:21
  them. At first, his energy started
• 2:23
  fading fast and he was close to dying.
• 2:26
  They brought in Doug Ramsey to try and talk to him.
• 2:29
  And thanks to Doug's language powers, if you don't know Doug
• 2:32
  can just speak every language. He can say it all.
• 2:37
  They managed to communicate, Warlock became their friend, and
• 2:40
  with Xavier's approval, he joined the team at the same time
• 2:43
  as Doug Ramsey, who was Cipher and now is Revelation in the
• 2:47
  comics. Even when Warlock had the
• 2:50
  personality of an overexcited kid, he became an important
• 2:54
  member of the New Mutants and a solid ally to the X-Men.
• 2:58
  One problem though, he always needed to drain the life glow of
• 3:03
  organic beings to stay alive, which freaked people out,
• 3:06
  rightfully so. In public he'd shape shift into
• 3:09
  a human form to blend in, so he has that going for him.
• 3:12
  Later, when Amara the Enchantress kidnapped the New
• 3:15
  Mutants to Asgard, Warlock ended up in hell.
• 3:19
  Hella basically shrugged and let him go, saying he had no idea
• 3:24
  how powerful he actually was. This was also when Warlock first
• 3:28
  learned to form armor around Doug to protect him.
• 3:32
  That will come up later. After they got home, Magneto
• 3:35
  became their new teacher. Warlock and Doug eventually
• 3:39
  learned how that they could merge together.
• 3:41
  I told you it would come up again, sharing both minds and
• 3:44
  bodies as a single entity. But this also risked permanently
• 3:48
  infecting Doug with the Transmode virus and merging them
• 3:51
  forever, which scared everyone, which is also fair.
• 3:56
  Not long later, the New Mutants rescued the infant X-Men from
• 4:00
  Mojo's mind control spell. Then when Magus attacked the
• 4:05
  team again, Magic teleported everyone to Limbo.
• 4:08
  Magus teamed up with the SIM and infected tons of Limbo demons
• 4:13
  with the Transmode virus, which is not what anyone wanted.
• 4:16
  Doug and Warlock merged again, and Doug used Warlock's DNA to
• 4:19
  figure out how to rewrite Magus's code, basically turning
• 4:23
  him back into a baby. Back home, the Impossible Man
• 4:27
  showed up. Wanting to have fun, Warlock and
• 4:29
  the Impossible Man started a shape shifting contest and
• 4:33
  zoomed all over the world with the New Mutants chasing them
• 4:35
  until Warlock finally won. Mainly because he could change
• 4:38
  colors too. So a friendly soccer game went
• 4:41
  bad when Sunspot knocked out Cannonball, and thinking he was
• 4:45
  dangerous, Sunspot dipped. He ran off.
• 4:48
  Warlock chased after him thinking the team needed to
• 4:50
  stick together. He saved Sunspot for from some
• 4:53
  thugs and convinced him that he they should stay together.
• 4:57
  After a whole bunch of weird encounters, including trying to
• 5:00
  rob a church, running into a duplicate Mad Rocks, and getting
• 5:04
  recruited by the Fallen Angels, they ended up in Dinosaur World
• 5:08
  with Moon Boy and Devil Dinosaur, then got kidnapped
• 5:12
  again by the aliens of the Coconut Grove before escaping
• 5:15
  and going home. Warlock and Sunspot returned to
• 5:19
  help the New Mutants fight Cameron Hodge and the Right.
• 5:22
  During the battle, Animator tried to shoot Wolfsbane, but
• 5:25
  Doug jumped in front of the bullet and died.
• 5:27
  A furious magic threw Animator into Limbo to be eaten by
• 5:30
  demons. Magneto was enraged and told the
• 5:34
  team that they weren't allowed to leave the school again
• 5:36
  without him. Warlock, confused and
• 5:38
  heartbroken over Doug's death, especially after watching Night
• 5:42
  of the Living Dead, did not understand what death actually
• 5:45
  meant, even though Magic did try to tell him.
• 5:48
  Matt, it's a very, very sad page because you see magic like
• 5:52
  laying over Doug's body and like mourning him, and Warlock just
• 5:58
  has no idea. He's like, what?
• 5:59
  What are we doing? Why?
• 6:01
  What is why is he dead? Does that mean he doesn't come
• 6:03
  back? It's very, very sad.
• 6:06
  So he animated Doug's corpse by shape shifting around him and
• 6:11
  took him to see Doug's mother and wolfsbane, hoping Doug could
• 6:14
  somehow remember life and come back.
• 6:16
  The New Mutants gently explained he couldn't do that, and they
• 6:20
  laid Doug to rest. After this, Warlock was briefly
• 6:24
  captured along with several others by a monstrous version of
• 6:27
  the Baba Yaga, who fattened them up to eat them until Colossus
• 6:31
  rescued them and magic undid the damage.
• 6:33
  The mutants eventually broke for Magneto, who claimed they were
• 6:37
  meant to be his army. He let them go, saying they'd
• 6:40
  someday realize he was right, which is such a Magneto thing to
• 6:42
  say. They almost went home to normal
• 6:45
  lives, but instead ended up joining X Factor on their living
• 6:48
  ship and merged with the X Terminators.
• 6:51
  Warlock was later captured by Cameron Hodge again on Genosha.
• 6:56
  Hodge tried to drain Warlock's shape shifting powers for
• 6:58
  himself. During the rescue attempt,
• 7:01
  Warlocks energy was completely drained, leaving him to reduce
• 7:05
  to ashes. His ashes were scattered on
• 7:08
  Doug's grave, which is a sad man.
• 7:13
  Hodges experiment with Warlock virus led to the birth of the
• 7:15
  Phalanx. They absorbed the remnants of
• 7:18
  both Warlock and Doug, creating a consciousness that couldn't
• 7:21
  survive inside the Phalanx, and eventually separated off, this
• 7:26
  being responded to the Call of the Android 0 and gained access
• 7:29
  to Doug's memories, finally breaking free of the Phalanx and
• 7:33
  calling himself Doug Locke. Doug Locke joined Excalibur on
• 7:37
  Muir Island, went on adventures and tried to figure out his
• 7:41
  identity, even developing feelings for Wolfsbang.
• 7:44
  He was later captured by Black Air, but rescued by Excalibur
• 7:48
  again. Excalibur eventually disbanded,
• 7:52
  but Doug Locke stayed on Muir Island until he was kidnapped by
• 7:55
  the Red Skull, who used him to take over Shields Helicarrier.

  He was freed by the X-Men Deathlock Machine Man Regaining
• 8:03
  his old memories, he went back to calling himself Warlock and
• 8:06
  dedicated himself to wiping out Techno Organic tech.

  He discovered a girl named Hope. Not the same as Hope Summers,
• 8:14
  just so you know. Who carried the virus without
• 8:17
  being infected, rescued her and travelled with her and her
• 8:20
  infected monkey Chichi to find a cure.
• 8:23
  The Magus returned yet again, but Hope used her powers to
• 8:27
  rewrite his DNA so he became part human like Warlock.
• 8:31
  Overwhelmed, the magus ran off. Warlock returned to the Kavich.
• 8:36
  God I can't say that word. The Kavich and found only one
• 8:41
  Technarch left, a kid named Tyro.
• 8:44
  Warlock infected Tyra with his peaceful strain of the virus,
• 8:49
  calming his aggressive nature, and began raising him like like
• 8:53
  a little baby. When Nova arrived, infected with
• 8:57
  the virus, Warlock helped cure him, though reluctantly.

  Things went bad when Gamora and Drax accidentally summoned
• 9:03
  desired him, who was Tyra's father.
• 9:06
  Warlock sacrificed all of his life glow to cure Nova.
• 9:10
  Seemingly dying. Distraught, Tyro overwrote his
• 9:14
  father's entire being with Warlock's peaceful code, gaining
• 9:17
  control over the mass of Technarch and reviving Warlock.
• 9:21
  Together they helped take down the Phalanx, fought Ultron, and
• 9:25
  began purging the Galaxy in of the virus.
• 9:29
  Later, Eli Bard resurrected Doug using the virus, and after a
• 9:32
  fight in Utopia, Doug was freed by Warlock.

  Using Magic's soul stored, they rejoined their old friends
• 9:41
  during Bastion's assault on Hope Summers.

  This time, it is Hope Summers. Doug convinced Warlock to absorb
• 9:47
  Hodges lifeglow to save everyone, an act that
• 9:50
  traumatized Warlock deeply. Afterward, he couldn't even
• 9:54
  watch people eat. After a brief vacation, they
• 9:57
  returned to battle demons in Limbo, deal with Legion, and
• 10:01
  eventually Warlock was assigned to monitor global police feeds
• 10:05
  for threats. Later Warlock merged fully with
• 10:09
  one of multiple man's dupes, naming the being Warlocks.

  After a series of events where a mutant kind was erased from
• 10:18
  human memory once ONE Sentinels attacked, Warlocks tried hacking
• 10:25
  them and got fried. Hope found him but all he could
• 10:28
  remember was the word friends and then he died, which is like
• 10:33
  dog. That's sad man.
• 10:36
  Warlock eventually came back to life somehow I'm sure they say
• 10:40
  oh the five resurrected him. That's what they always do.
• 10:44
  Xavier recruited Cipher to help build Krakoa and Doug secretly
• 10:49
  brought Warlock along pretending they refused permanently.
• 10:53
  Warlock helped terraform the island and actually merged with
• 10:57
  Krakoa itself so he could hear everything happening and keep
• 11:01
  watch on Xavier to keep everyone from noticing.
• 11:04
  Warlock and Cypher pretended they were still fused, though a
• 11:08
  few people like Cyclops and Magic caught glimpses of them
• 11:11
  separated. Warlock was named as one of the
• 11:14
  Swords of the Contest of Swords. He and Cypher finally dropped
• 11:18
  the act and Warlock transformed into a giant sword for Doug.
• 11:23
  Turns out Doug didn't need to fight it all.
• 11:26
  His battle was a surprise wedding to bathe the Blood Moon,
• 11:30
  which was also super weird. Warlock became an independent
• 11:34
  citizen and spent more time with the New Mutants while Doug
• 11:37
  focused on a married life. He and Doug later discovered
• 11:40
  that Mystique and Destiny were planning to depower and kill
• 11:43
  Myra Mctaggart. Knowing Myra was dangerous but
• 11:47
  protected by Kurkova's laws, they let Mystique depower her
• 11:51
  but stopped them from killing her, reminding them that murder
• 11:54
  no man still applied. Myra escaped, and they allowed a
• 11:58
  Mystique and Destiny to hunt her.

  Afterward, Warlock started sitting in on council meetings
• 12:04
  and later learned from Legion that Magus had been killed by
• 12:08
  Nimrod, which devastated him. Warlock was then affected by
• 12:12
  Nimrod, giving the villain control of Herkoa through him.
• 12:17
  The Legionaries were forced to kill Warlock to save the island,
• 12:20
  though Nimrod escaped with a copy of the code.
• 12:23
  Warlock was then captured by Orcas and used by Vulture to
• 12:28
  create Hounds, heroes infected with the virus.
• 12:33
  Nightcrawlers teams eventually freed Warlock, who purged the
• 12:36
  virus from everyone, including Vulture himself.
• 12:40
  So that is Warlock. He is actually a very very sweet
• 12:43
  character. I do wish we could see him at
• 12:47
  some point. That would be really cool.
• 12:50
  Like see more of him I guess. More of a story, not just a
• 12:52
