- 0:09>> Hello. >> Hi. How's it going? >> Pretty good. Just like to say to get
- 0:14this out the way for our American listeners, happy 4th of July. >> Oh, yeah. It will be
- 0:20>> will be tomorrow. >> True. Yeah. Cool. All right. >> I thought I could do that now.
- 0:26>> Happy 4th. Probably you'll probably think more about it next week if we if
- 0:31you're able to record. >> Yeah, actually it's a good point. I
- 0:34probably won't be cuz I'll be away. But we'll see.
- 0:38>> We'll see. That's what we'll celebrate it now. Yay, America. >> Yay. >> Is it great?
- 0:45>> Everything Everything's great. [laughter] >> Everything's fine.
- 0:49>> Everything is fine. >> Yes,
- 0:55gas prizes are great. eat. Although they're probably worse in Australia.
- 0:59>> Yeah, cuz even to begin with it was worse because it's like further for the
- 1:04gas to come. >> Yeah. I forget now I'm I climatized to
- 1:10the prices here. I forget how [ __ ] expensive it was in Australia.
- 1:13>> Mhm. Everything is expensive here. >> Yeah. Yeah. True, true, true, true.
- 1:19>> Y [clears throat] Iceland is worse. If it if it makes you feel any better.
- 1:23Probably not. Is Iceland where you have to have an app to see if you're related
- 1:26to someone before you sleep with them? [laughter] >> I don't know. It didn't come up. Uh,
- 1:32let's have a look. Let's find out. >> I think that's a thing. >> Iceland app relatives
- 1:38[snorts] sex. >> Yep. >> Yes.
- 1:42>> Yep. Yep. Because there book of Icelanders allows people to
- 1:48check if they are closely related. Mhm. >> The catchphrase is bump the app before
- 1:53you bump in bed. >> Yep. So, if you're about to hook up that
- 1:57one night stand, you might [snorts] want to check and see if they're your cousin.
- 2:01>> There you go. [snorts] That's interesting. I guess it's a small community. >> Mhm.
- 2:07>> I don't know why I know that. >> Yeah, I don't know either. Are you Icelandic?
- 2:13>> Did this come up? >> I don't think so. I look very different
- 2:17to people who are from Iceland. Yeah, I suppose
- 2:22>> there are beautiful, beautiful people over there. [laughter]
- 2:30>> You just been scrolling through the uh the app looking for Yeah,
- 2:35>> I don't think it shows pictures. >> No, >> no, [laughter] >> that would be
- 2:40>> I don't think it's like a dating app. I think it's just >> like a menu. [laughter]
- 2:45>> I don't have that one. So, >> what's been going on?
- 2:50>> I I did manage to go out and I did go and see Supergirl. >> Okay, cool.
- 2:56>> Cuz I remember I wasn't excited for Superman. That was was I was a bit
- 3:00nervous about it. >> I enjoyed that. >> I went saw Supergirl thinking,
- 3:06>> "Yep, this should be good as well." >> More of the same goodness.
- 3:10>> No, it's sort of different, but it's >> I don't know. It sort of missed the mark
- 3:16for me. It's not a great second outing.
- 3:20>> Yeah. I mean, I've it got bad not good reviews, let's say. Uh, and then I guess
- 3:26the audience scores a mix. The audience scores are hard, man, because people
- 3:29seem to enjoy anything. >> Well, they either love it or hate it. There's no in between.
- 3:35>> No, I've seen a bunch of people say it's mid. >> Okay, then. So, I guess that's kind of
- 3:40like saying it's, you know, >> see, it sort of reminded me a bit more
- 3:44of like Guardians of the Galaxy to tell the truth cuz it's not set on Earth at all.
- 3:49>> Yeah. No, I knew that. >> Yeah. It's not um I mean, it's not James
- 3:56Gunn, but it is >> head of the studio. So, >> yeah. Um and we definitely know that
- 4:01Aquaman's not coming back, >> right? Because he's somebody else now.
- 4:05>> He's someone else. Yes. >> Yeah. No, I knew that, too. Yeah. But
- 4:09>> yeah, the whole movie was just about Supergirl just sort of coming to terms
- 4:15with herself and deciding, "Yep, I'm going to go back and live on Earth." >> Okay,
- 4:20>> that's it. Movie over. >> I mean I mean I mean that's that's a perfectly fine,
- 4:27you know, outline for a movie. It's >> Yeah. >> But is it interesting? >> Not really.
- 4:32>> Yeah. Okay. See, that's the that's the bit they've missed. Um
- 4:37>> All right. Yeah. Yeah, looking at the reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, a lot of
- 4:40three stars, which I guess is like >> Yeah.
- 4:46>> Like this is I would honestly wait for it to go to streaming. >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
- 4:52>> I'll go anyway to see it in the movies. >> No, I don't I won't I I could tell from
- 4:56the trailer like I I was I was excited about it cautiously until I saw the
- 5:00trailer and then I was like I don't think I want to. They did say this was
- 5:05going to be a different tone to Superman as well. I don't remember.
- 5:10>> Yeah. Is it funny? >> I laughed once.
- 5:15>> A no. Yeah, that's a no that you had to think about it. Yeah,
- 5:18>> I think they tried to be funny. >> Okay. Yeah. See, that's worse.
- 5:24>> So, look. Yeah. I Shane, uh, the trailer for Spider-Man I
- 5:30actually found more interesting. [laughter] >> Okay.
- 5:35But even that is that trailer's now put me off. >> Yeah, I don't know about the new
- 5:40Spider-Man >> cuz there's a new trailer now. >> Okay. Oh, okay. Have I seen the new new
- 5:47one? I don't know. >> This one's got the Hulk in it. >> Yeah. Okay. I have seen that.
- 5:51>> Okay. Yeah. So, the trailer sort of leading up seemed I was quite enjoying.
- 5:56And then this last one, it's just >> gotten worse somehow. I remember when
- 6:03people were complaining that, you know, Spider-Man 3, the Sam Remy Spider-Man 3
- 6:07had too many villains in it. And then I look at this trailer and there's like
- 6:10like [ __ ] so many villains in it. You've got Scorpion,
- 6:16uh, those ninjas, apparently the Hulk.
- 6:19Uh, and then there's an article here, uh, the actual main villain hasn't even
- 6:25been revealed. Like, so you can see in the trailer somebody's taking over and controlling.
- 6:29>> Taking over. Yeah. And I don't know who that would be. >> Yeah. I don't know.
- 6:35>> There'll be some nerd out there who probably knows what villain is. >> I'm sure.
- 6:40>> Yeah. >> Sorry for calling you a nerd. [laughter] [snorts]
- 6:45>> Yeah. I um Yeah, I'm not super
- 6:51I don't know. >> I'm going to go see. This is definitely one I'm going to go see. >> Yeah.
- 6:57Is Is the action in Supergirl good? Sorry, just to go back to that trying to find some uh
- 7:03>> there was silver lining. >> Not really either. The fight seemed very
- 7:07subdued, especially coming off Superman where he's flying around. There's lots
- 7:12of stuff happening in the background. This just seemed
- 7:15>> Does she have superpowers when she's not on Earth? She doesn't, right?
- 7:18>> She doesn't know. Yeah, she needs a yellow sun. So, it did focus a lot on
- 7:22explaining to people green sun, yellow sun, red sun, and
- 7:26>> Oh, all right. and the different powers, what happens to her under the different
- 7:29things. >> So, there was one fight where she was under the red sun, so she sort of got
- 7:34beat up but still managed to win, >> right? Yeah. >> And then she went to then there was
- 7:38another fight that sort of happened in the background where you didn't really
- 7:42see it was sort of >> okay >> you sort of see it from a point of view
- 7:46of a girl hiding and then Super running around beating up everyone in the background and
- 7:51>> right >> but yeah the action wasn't as big as >> you'd expect from a super
- 7:58>> movie. Okay. A super movie. >> Mhm.
- 8:04H I mean Spider-Man certainly seems to
- 8:08have a lot of action in it. I just I just don't know. Maybe superhero movies.
- 8:13Maybe I just don't like them anymore. I did I like Superman though. So
- 8:18>> Superman was good. >> I think a lot of high hope for >> Yeah.
- 8:22>> what James was going to do. But yeah, the second outing just >> Yeah.
- 8:27>> scares me. What's next? >> Yeah. Because he didn't do it, but he's still in charge.
- 8:32Well, Man of Tomorrow is they're they're filming it, which is the next Superman
- 8:36movie. Is that what's next? Next DC
- 8:41movie. Yeah, Supergirl's already out, mate. What's next?
- 8:47>> Oh, Clayface. >> Clayface, which comes out in September. And then
- 8:53Man of Tomorrow is uh next year in July. Clayface is
- 8:58interesting. It's um looks more like a horror movie. >> Yeah.
- 9:04>> So, I mean, yeah, again, I I don't know. I just don't know.
- 9:09>> And I know it's not all James Gun, but he is the head. That's why I keep
- 9:13referring back to him cuz >> Yeah. Yeah. He's the buck stops with
- 9:17him. Um, and then Batman the Batman part two >> next October, which is nothing to do
- 9:24with these films technically, but >> um, >> I'm kind of looking forward to that. I I
- 9:30did quite like the fact that that was was bit one and done.
- 9:36>> Yeah, >> like the Joker was as well.
- 9:41>> Yes. Did you watch the second one? >> No. >> No. Me either. I should do that at some
- 9:47point, I suppose. But I just heard it wasn't very good. So,
- 9:50>> yeah. And a good I I think it being a one and done and it just that whole
- 9:56story, it made sense and it ended. You don't need a sequel.
- 10:01>> Terrible reviews looking at it now. >> That's just a case of people saying,
- 10:07"Oh, this one did well. We'll make more money if we do it again."
- 10:12>> Yeah, but The second one had was a musical, right?
- 10:18>> Yes. >> Had a What's the face? Lady Gaga or something.
- 10:23>> Yeah. I mean, I guess, you know, give it a try, I suppose. >> Yeah.
- 10:27>> Didn't work, though. Um, did I watch anything this week?
- 10:32>> Um, oh, I watched season five of Clarkson's Farm.
- 10:36>> Oh, yes. I also I looked up some stuff too because I was trying to understand
- 10:42um we'd have to go into this too much so this people don't give a [ __ ] but
- 10:49Clarkson's farm if anyone doesn't know Jeremy Clarkson from Top Gear he has a
- 10:53farm now and in England and he it's the show is about him trying to be a farmer
- 10:57and he's bad at it. Uh, and it's it's funny, but it's also kind of um
- 11:04uh I guess it tells you about
- 11:10>> British farmers and stuff and the the decisions the British government's
- 11:13making that's really badly affecting the farmers and all this kind of thing. And
- 11:16the way it's portrayed in the show, it's kind of like basically I was like, it
- 11:19seems so obviously bad. M >> I don't understand
- 11:24why they would make these decisions because the the show it wants you to
- 11:29dislike the policies or whatever. >> It doesn't show you both sides of the
- 11:33story or anything. I was like >> very one-sided but
- 11:36>> yeah cuz I was like it can't just be that the British government is like [ __ ]
- 11:41you farmers we [ __ ] hate you like doesn't make any sense. So what is
- 11:47>> the argument for it? So I looked it up. Uh there is some nuance there. It does
- 11:52seem like they're pretty under, you know, halfbaked policies. Like the the
- 11:57short version is the whole point of this stuff is in Britain at the moment or or
- 12:03previously up for a long for a while it's been that you don't pay any
- 12:07inheritance tax on farms. >> Mhm. >> I guess to encourage farmers to keep
- 12:11farming or whatever. Y >> except all the rich people who aren't
- 12:15farmers bought all bought a bunch of farmland to use as a tax haven because
- 12:20you don't pay tax on it inherit tax on it. >> So they were like, well, we need to stop
- 12:24that. And so this this thing was supposed to say, okay, if you if you if your farm,
- 12:30>> the blunt instrument was that, okay, if you have a farm that's worth over a
- 12:34million dollars, a million pounds, you do have to pay tax. But then the point
- 12:39they make in the show is that well that's a lot of farms that are
- 12:42legitimate farms and it will [ __ ] like farms. >> Yeah.
- 12:47>> Yeah. You're hurting the wrong people >> because they're already struggling
- 12:51>> because because of weather as you'll see in the show if you watch it. It's
- 12:54farming's hard, man. Yes. I don't [laughter] >> I don't know.
- 12:58>> I would not want to be a farmer. >> No, that's tough. And so there it's just
- 13:01making it even harder for them. And and then so I found out that since that, not
- 13:07because of necessarily because of the show, but since the show, it's been put
- 13:11up to two and a half million pounds, which is not as bad, I guess. I don't know.
- 13:16>> I could see why you want that. Like you want the farms not to pay that
- 13:19inheritance tax, especially because person most likely to become a farmer
- 13:24and remain a farmer is someone who's in the family.
- 13:27>> Like already doing it. And the problem they're having too is that the reason
- 13:31that that they want to they need to fix it is that all these like wealthy people
- 13:35are buying up the farms and young people can't buy any and farmers can't buy
- 13:41anymore because as soon as there's farmland up all these [ __ ] rich
- 13:44people are buying it and just >> doing nothing with it because it's oh
- 13:48I've got a farm now I don't have to pay tax on that like >> y
- 13:53>> so there should be a way like it should be like like if you buy a house you and
- 13:58you're going to sell it you to have lived in it for a certain number of
- 14:01years not to pay as a a tax thing. So >> yeah, >> it can't be a rental property. You know,
- 14:07I've lived here for a year. Should be something like that. No, I've worked on
- 14:10the land for the last five years here. >> Well, that's one of the things too is
- 14:15that in in the show, you see the You've watched it, right? >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
- 14:19>> I haven't watched season five, but I've watched most of
- 14:21>> it. You've watched, you know, you see him struggle with the council and with
- 14:25all the Yeah. everything. you know, they won't let him do any do things, that
- 14:28kind of thing. And the other side of that is though, a lot of people think
- 14:34he's one of these rich people who bought farmland.
- 14:38>> And there's a there's a perception, I don't know if this I have no idea if
- 14:40this is true or not. It seems from the show like it's not, but obviously
- 14:44they're trying to portray this that that that you know that he's only doing the farm
- 14:50show to get around the fact that people think he's just a wealthy guy who bought
- 14:55a farm as a tax haven >> like and and initially when he did it
- 14:59that's what people thought he was doing. So I'm not I don't know. I have no idea
- 15:01whether that's true or not. I want to think it's not true. I want to think
- 15:03he's genuine. But um but the reason that that people are being dicks to him a lot
- 15:10of the time is apparently because they think he's one of these rich [ __ ]
- 15:13who's ruining things. >> I I don't think he brought it as a
- 15:17taxation haven as such. I think he brought it as a small farm where this is
- 15:21where I'm going to retire. >> I wonder if he I I bet an accountant said to him, you
- 15:27know, if you buy a farm, you don't have to pay as much tax. And then and then
- 15:30maybe he went a farm? I could be a farmer. Like I think from from what I've
- 15:35seen of the show like I mean he gets involved in everything and he's clearly
- 15:39really invested in it. It's more than just he's just >> trying to you know save money or
- 15:44whatever. >> Yeah. >> But I wonder if that's how he got the idea.
- 15:47>> Yeah. But yeah, he got the idea. I wonder though I think the big thing that
- 15:51would show if if he's still working the farm when the cameras aren't there would
- 15:56be the big thing. Or is he there for that exact three months that they're
- 15:59filming? It's like with Top Gear when they're doing the challenges in Top Gear
- 16:02and they're out in the middle of [ __ ] nowhere.
- 16:05>> Do they go back to a hotel every night? [laughter]
- 16:08>> It's very likely that they do. I'm not I I can't say. But
- 16:11>> can't say. But yeah, that for me, if he was there all year round and that's
- 16:15where he lives now and that's what he's doing, >> then I would fully believe that he is
- 16:19committed to this. If it's just cameras are here, we back to the farm, build my
- 16:24stuff and then go back and live it up. >> I mean, it's hard to know. So, I mean,
- 16:28I've been I've been there and it's a seems like a real farm as far as I can tell. Um,
- 16:33>> well, it's it's well well
- 16:39cuz he has people working the farm as well. >> No, and I wasn't out in the fields where
- 16:44things happen. I was at the >> And he's not going to be at the store or at
- 16:49>> every day. But all I meant was that like >> he wasn't there.
- 16:52>> It is a real farm. It's a functioning farm. You can go there and see it. So,
- 16:57>> but then of Yeah, one of the things they brought up like season 4 that I thought
- 17:00was hard like their local abbittoire shut down cuz all the abattoars are
- 17:03going to super mega abattoars. >> So, they had all these pigs that they
- 17:08can't afford to take to slaughter because >> they're all small
- 17:14>> farmers. So, they had to orchip into hire a lorry to take their >> Yeah.
- 17:20>> pigs away. And >> well, >> so hard watching >> more bad things happen. [clears throat]
- 17:26>> Oh, okay. >> I lift it up to the point where that
- 17:31happened and he's just he's just buying the pub and finding out how much it's
- 17:34going to cost him. >> Oh, yeah. >> Yeah. >> But yeah, I couldn't do it. I could not
- 17:41>> I did see a very smart a very a very interesting thing about how the the show
- 17:45has done something that um that nobody's been able to do for a very long time in
- 17:50in Britain which is make people care about it because
- 17:53>> when people were hearing about this stuff oh the farmers are having a hard
- 17:56time and everyone goes oh yeah okay whatever >> but then when they watch Clarkson's farm
- 18:01and they see in the first season where you know he grows the potatoes right
- 18:05>> but and he grows too many potatoes to sell on his own but not enough potatoes
- 18:10to sell to a big company and he's just stuck with all these potatoes that he's
- 18:13got nothing to do with and he's just going to lose money on it.
- 18:16>> People got angry in a way that they just didn't give a [ __ ] before and so it's
- 18:22kind of done this it's gotten the British public like and then they like
- 18:27overall it's a good for the farmers. >> Yeah. Because I think a lot of people
- 18:30used to see farmers as not really think about them but they just hear oh the
- 18:34government's giving them millions of dollars in payouts and they're driving
- 18:36around in millions. They're getting millions of dollars of machinery and
- 18:40>> all this stuff. >> And then you see the reality of it or
- 18:42the you know alleged reality. I >> Yeah. >> I hope it's I hope it's legit.
- 18:47>> Well, I'm pretty sure it is the farmer's reality. >> May not be his, but
- 18:53>> he's he he literally says at one point in this season, uh they're just out in
- 18:58the fields doing something and he's like, "Oh, this is great." You know, um
- 19:01why didn't I do this earlier? And then he says, "Oh, yeah, because I wouldn't
- 19:05have I wouldn't have been able to afford to do this." Yeah.
- 19:07>> If I didn't make all my money doing Top Gear. >> Yeah. Yeah. He wouldn't be able to
- 19:11afford Especially the way he's just he's just mcking around a lot as well. Like it's
- 19:16>> Yeah. He can afford to make mistakes. >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It's not a It's not
- 19:20the end of the world if the farm doesn't make a profit. Whereas for other farmers, it is.
- 19:24>> It literally is. Yeah. Yeah. >> It's if Yeah. If we don't make make it
- 19:27this year, well, we're selling the farm. >> Yeah.
- 19:33>> But anyway, let's stop doom and gloom. >> Yeah. Anyway, it's a good season. Uh,
- 19:38yeah, recommend it. Good show. >> And Oh, how did him coming out having
- 19:42cancer? How was that? >> He Well, >> I know because Yeah, you hadn't seen
- 19:46that episode yet. He's He's in the >> No, in the show. Uh, yeah, but we don't
- 19:50you don't find that out to be honest in the show. >> He just announces it.
- 19:54>> He just announced it on Instagram. Yeah, but because the show I guess they
- 19:57wrapped the show and then um >> he got the results, you know, later. But
- 20:02anyway, yeah, he did have he had uh prostate cancer. He got a large chunk of
- 20:06his prostate removed. So that that's in the show. Oh, not you don't see it,
- 20:11[laughter] but it happens during the show. And then the show ends at a
- 20:16certain point with it and they're talking about how he'll find out. And
- 20:19then he on Instagram he announc Yeah. He's apparently he's clear. So that's good.
- 20:22>> This is why guys go get a finger up the bum. >> Yeah. Or a blood test can tell you too
- 20:28these days. >> Or an ultrasound. >> There's a bunch of ways. Just just do
- 20:33it. Just check. You just do do one of them. >> Yeah. Just check.
- 20:37>> Each to their own how they want it done. I'm going the ultrasound.
- 20:41>> Yeah. Get the finger. >> Not until they buy me dinner first.
- 20:45>> I've not had I've not had the finger. >> I've never had the finger.
- 20:49>> No, I don't. Do they even still do that? >> I I don't know. I Because they only
- 20:54really see it in like sitcoms and things. It's a >> I've been told it's ruled out based on
- 20:59blood tests. That's I've been I've had blood tests and they've said, "Oh, yeah.
- 21:03There's no real reason to think." So, yeah, there's no need to get in there,
- 21:07>> any other test. >> Yeah. Yeah. And I was like, "Okay, fine.
- 21:11>> I'll believe you. You're my doctor, but also it's an American doctor."
- 21:14>> Yeah. Would you mind just doing it anyway? [laughter] >> Can you Can you try?
- 21:19>> I'll pay I'll pay extra. [gasps]
- 21:26>> Um, what else? We'll finish off on movies. We got movies news here.
- 21:30I when I first saw this I thought this was a joke
- 21:34>> article that World War Z is having a sequel made.
- 21:41>> Yeah, I've I've never watched this. Um did you see this movie? I watched it and
- 21:47my whole joke was cuz the zombies would run past certain people and they
- 21:53worked out that some people with a certain disease, >> right,
- 21:57>> were immune from the zombies attacking them. So the whole thing focused around
- 22:01Brad Pit going off to some secret location to get the disease >> get the disease,
- 22:06>> right? >> But then all the diseases get mixed up
- 22:09and he just jabbed himself with one. And my whole thing was he just gave himself AIDS.
- 22:13>> Right. Right. You don't know what he gave himself.
- 22:16>> Don't want Don't know what he gave himself, but I reckon A's was the
- 22:19answer. And then the movie ended. And I thought, well, they've got the cure.
- 22:23It's done. So, I don't know really where you go for for a sequel. Like, they've
- 22:27got the cure. >> Well, we'll find out, I guess. >> You have to give yourself another
- 22:33disease to avoid this disease. >> Yes. >> Yeah. They found out that Yeah. the
- 22:38zombies would just ignore someone with a particular disease. I don't I honestly
- 22:43don't remember what it was. It was a very long time ago I saw this movie.
- 22:46>> This summary on here says it was a vaccine based on that the information
- 22:50they gained. So I'm I'm not saying you're wrong. Maybe this person who
- 22:56wrote this summary is wrong, but the summary says that they made a vaccine
- 22:59based on what they found out and that's what he injected himself with.
- 23:05>> I don't it's been a long time. I still just say cuz I remember all the needles
- 23:09got mixed up or something. I remember that.
- 23:11>> Is it a vac? Wait, I mean the vaccine against zombies attacking you. I guess
- 23:17it is. Would you call that a vaccine? Anyway, >> yeah. The film end on a bright note
- 23:22after the creation of a vaccine that masks humans from the undead.
- 23:26>> But there's still room to explore. >> Depending on what direction the sequel
- 23:30takes. Oh yeah, I guess that's true. Well, I mean, they haven't given
- 23:32everybody the vaccine yet, have they? >> Maybe that's what it's about. But it'd
- 23:37be pretty easy to cuz you like for me the stakes aren't going to be that high
- 23:42for the people going out trying to give the vaccine because
- 23:45>> Oh, the zombies aren't going to go after them. >> Yeah. So, it's just going to be just
- 23:49trying to find people to give it to. And also, it's going to be very easy to kill
- 23:53the zombies cuz they're not going to be worried about attacking you.
- 23:58>> Do they attack you if you attack them? No, they just from what from what I
- 24:04remember they just completely ignored >> and the zombies weren't smart enough to
- 24:08go on being attacked. They were just focused on attacking
- 24:15>> Yeah, that's weird. >> It's like even a dog that isn't going to
- 24:18attack you if you keep punching it in the face probably will bite you.
- 24:22>> Yeah. But no, from what I remember is the zombies were just so focused on. And
- 24:25if you see it in the movie, they were like climbing up a wall and it's just
- 24:28cuz they were climbing on top of each other just and it wasn't working
- 24:31together. It was just a wall of people trying to get up to cross a wall. They
- 24:36were able to get through. And in the book, cuz I know somebody read the book,
- 24:41there was a part of the book where he was trapped under
- 24:44>> I didn't read it. He was trapped under a bridge or something and then used to
- 24:47hear the splat splat splat of the zombies just walking off the bridge to
- 24:52try and get to him cuz they just >> mindless own goal is just to get to him
- 24:57to bite him but that was it. >> Okay. >> But one thing I've always wondered when
- 25:03does zombies know when to stop eating people? >> Do they know?
- 25:09>> I don't know because you you'll see I'm just talking zombie movies in general.
- 25:13Sometimes [clears throat] they'll like eat an entire arm.
- 25:16>> Sometimes sometimes they just bite you and Yeah. Yeah, you're right. Sometimes
- 25:20they rip people in half. >> Yeah. I just don't know when do they >> whatever serves the
- 25:26>> Yeah. Whatever's the most dramatic. I think often
- 25:31>> they just want brains according to >> Return of the Living Dead. >> Yeah.
- 25:37>> Which doesn't explain why they buy anywhere else but
- 25:39>> No. No. Uh in return Yeah. Yeah. It doesn't explain that cuz it what? Return
- 25:43of the dead. They wanted the brains cuz that stops the pain. >> Yes. >> Yep.
- 25:46>> It hurts. That's a great movie. >> Yes. I haven't seen it in ages. I should watch that.
- 25:53>> Yeah. >> Is it a great movie? No, it is. It is. >> I think it is. It has been a little
- 25:59while, but I think it is. That's the one where the the paramedics pull up. Oh,
- 26:04no. The cops the police pull up and the zombies kill the police and then they
- 26:07get on the radio. They go, "Are you there? Is this [laughter] this is base?
- 26:10Do you need anything? And then the zombie picks up the radio and goes,
- 26:13"Send more cops." [laughter] >> It's a [ __ ] great movie.
- 26:20>> Ah, yep. No, I need to watch that again. I think they did a good job with the
- 26:24comedy with that. Like, it wasn't [snorts] >> Yeah, comedy, but also very, very
- 26:30intense. Like, it's very gory. If anyone's thinking of watching this, it's quite gory. And
- 26:35>> uh it's just a classic, though. >> Yeah. It's like an unofficial sequel to
- 26:40Night of the Living Dead if anybody hasn't seen it. And it opens in a
- 26:44morttery where they um they're talking about the events of Night of the Living
- 26:49Dead. Not unofficially because it's an unofficial sequel, but oh yeah, did you
- 26:52hear about that thing that happened? >> And then they've got one of the bodies
- 26:56from the uh there's a barrel that fell off a military truck that they got with
- 27:01the triioxin in it, which they've got in the basement with a body in it. And then
- 27:05they've also got a body of of a of somebody. Anyway, they burn the
- 27:12>> they burn the one of the zombie bodies. >> Oh yeah, they do it all of the
- 27:17>> and the rain falls in the cemetery and all the zombies come up in the cemetery.
- 27:20It's a great movie. It's really good. >> But even Night of the Living Dead was a
- 27:24great movie. >> True. I mean, very different tone though.
- 27:27>> Very different tone. But yeah, no Return of the Living Dead. That was the one I
- 27:30would watch now again. >> More fun. >> Yeah. Night Living Dead is great, but
- 27:34it's more serious. >> Yes. >> It's a racial commentary. In fact,
- 27:40>> yes, it was, wasn't it? >> Yes. >> Mhm. >> Very controversial to be uh to have the
- 27:47main character be a black man back in the back in the day. George Romero is
- 27:50very progressive. >> You don't I don't get why it's
- 27:55controversial, but I do. But >> not back then. >> I don't get why it's controversial now.
- 28:02Let's not let's not revisit that. Yeah, we don't. [laughter] Yeah.
- 28:06>> Uh, we can talk about something sad. >> Go on. [laughter] >> What?
- 28:13>> I'm just I just Let's not talk about sort of black people being discriminated against.
- 28:19>> Sad instead, >> right? [laughter] >> The fact that Xbox prices are going up. [sighs]
- 28:26>> Yes, they are >> uh significantly. Yes. >> Um
- 28:32>> a lot a lot. It's >> 100 bucks uh the minimum and
- 28:38>> more in some cases. Um the they're discontinuing the two TBTE model that
- 28:44they brought out >> which I I really wanted that. >> Well, get it now.
- 28:49>> Well, actually, they're actually releasing uh an anniversary model later
- 28:54this year, which is green one. >> Yeah. And I was hoping that was going to
- 28:58be two terabyte, but it's not the one terabyte. Well, now I know they're
- 29:01discontinuing. I'm probably still going to get the special edition
- 29:04>> because uh my Xbox is starting to die. >> Oh, how do you know?
- 29:09>> Um it's starting to do weird things with um disconnecting from controllers, just
- 29:14popping up randomly and yeah, it's just on its way out. >> Oh, interesting. All right.
- 29:19>> Well, I've got a backup in a box over there. Yeah, I was going to say if you I
- 29:23was my actual advice to you was going to be if you need another backup because I
- 29:26know you have backup Xboxes. Yes. Uh now would be the time before the price goes
- 29:30up. But yeah, so the >> two terabyte model's gone. Um
- 29:36>> the one terabyte with the disc drive is going up from this is US from 649 to
- 29:42799. >> So that's like 150 bucks more.
- 29:46>> Yeah. Um, the 1 TB digital's bumping up from 599 to 7.49, which again is what,
- 29:53like 150 bucks. And the Xbox Series S is going up
- 29:59uh for the 1 TB 449 to 599 and for the
- 30:04512 GB 399 to $4.99. There's a massive price jumps
- 30:08>> and they're not doing it to make money. They're doing it so they're not losing as much
- 30:13>> apparently. So yeah, it's just oh man, this is brutal. Um,
- 30:20yeah. So strange like that that this is where we are right now.
- 30:25>> [ __ ] AI stuff. I mean, that's what it is, right? It's the AI stuff causing a
- 30:32shortage of uh parts. So >> Oh, wow. So I'm even looking at because
- 30:38I hadn't looked at the price of an Xbox in a while. M.
- 30:41>> So even just the one TBTE one is had already gone up $100 here from when
- 30:46first release. So and it's going to go up again. >> Yeah.
- 30:50>> And it's not I mean it's not just Xbox. We talked about a little while ago I
- 30:54think uh I said I think I said Apple haven't put the price of their stuff up
- 30:58because often they buy in bulk and they lock in prices for a long period. Well,
- 31:02they are putting up the prices now. >> They're all going up by 100 bucks I
- 31:06think as well. So, all the laptops and uh iPads. >> Yep.
- 31:12>> It's every It's going to be everywhere. It's going to get worse presumably.
- 31:15>> Oh, yeah. Yeah. It's definitely going to get worse. There's no way it can get better.
- 31:19>> Yeah. >> Unless everyone goes, "Oh, wait. You know what? We don't need AI." Which is
- 31:24not happening. They're just finding more use. It's getting more useful, which I
- 31:28guess is nice. Well, that's what I was talking to people at work just recently to go
- 31:34I've actually told people to come see me if they need to learn how to use it
- 31:37because when I first got it I went I have no use for this >> and then you slowly
- 31:42>> oh hold on I'll try this I'll try that and then you find it useful. >> Yeah.
- 31:46>> And so even at work I'm going hey like if you do if you do get a license you're
- 31:51not sure what to do come see me I'll give you a few ideas to get you started
- 31:54because what works for one person won't work for everyone. Yeah.
- 31:59Yeah. And I think I I feel like it works best if you're uh if you're working with it.
- 32:06>> Yes. >> I think a lot of people expect it to just do things and it's like no, you
- 32:09know, kind of need to hold its hand and you need to be like Yeah. I think as a as like a
- 32:15>> like a junior assistant, it works quite well. I think not as a replacement.
- 32:20That's my opinion anyway. or a replacement for a junior assistant,
- 32:24which is the problem everyone's talking about, which is we're not going to have
- 32:26any senior people if we just don't hire them because we're using AI for
- 32:30everything. But that's >> it's a really it's we're in a tough
- 32:34place at this the moment. It's >> and we're not The thing that would solve
- 32:39it all is if we had um replicators like we do in Star Trek.
- 32:45>> So we would we wouldn't have to do anything. [snorts] Well, that was the
- 32:49whole thing that made Star Trek tconomics work was the fact that people
- 32:52didn't have to worry about food or accommodation or everything that was all
- 32:55done and then people didn't worry about money. So, it just became people working
- 32:59for that's tconomics essentially. >> Yeah. >> In a very dumb down form
- 33:03>> stuff for the love of it. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> H but the problem is is we're heading to
- 33:08a lot of stage where everything's being automated and we're making a lot of jobs
- 33:12redundant with what's there. Yeah. >> Where does everyone shift to? >> Yeah.
- 33:18>> And especially the thing is is this is happening a lot faster this time.
- 33:23>> Yeah. Well, that's the the issue with the programming field is like if all the
- 33:28junior developers get replaced with AI, who becomes a senior developer in five,
- 33:3310 years, whatever. >> Nobody. >> The the the AI >> the AI does replacement.
- 33:39>> Yeah. And then >> it's like when all the but on the other
- 33:42side it's like when all the stores started using self checkouts. >> Yes.
- 33:47>> Everyone's going like this is people adapted but didn't that took that
- 33:52happened that took place over time.
- 33:56>> Yeah. There's a new um uh Rhode Island where I am has a new selfch checkckout
- 34:01law. Uh there are going to be limits placed on how many items you can selfch
- 34:07checkckout. Oh. >> Uh, I think that is I think that's right. To protecting job protecting
- 34:12jobs. Oh, wait. No, sorry. My mistake. My mistake. It's not about that. I've
- 34:17got confused by the wording. I think it's
- 34:22uh about making sure there's a balance
- 34:25of selfch checkout to staff. You got to have staff available
- 34:32>> uh as well as just having the checkouts. See, the one thing that does get me about the
- 34:38people complaining about there not being it's all there are still people who
- 34:42complain about there being it's all selfch checkout and there's no staff
- 34:44available even though there are staff available >> right
- 34:48>> where where I am there are staff available sitting [laughter] at a
- 34:50register waiting but there might be one person with a full trolley in front of them
- 34:56>> well before we even had selfch checkckout >> that's what would happen but you'd wait
- 35:01for like people with two or three trolley full in front of you.
- 35:04>> I hate when the worst part is when somebody with a massively full trolley
- 35:08goes through the selfch checkckout because you're like you're going to take
- 35:10[ __ ] forever because you're not a professional >> check [laughter] out person.
- 35:16>> But it just used to people complain about it. I'm sort of like no if you
- 35:19remember what it was like when you had just >> lined up. Yeah. You just waited. Yeah.
- 35:24>> Yeah. >> And you want to go back to that? I can't go back to that
- 35:29>> cuz I don't do a big shop. I do a >> Yeah. I buy a couple things.
- 35:35>> I get my stuff delivered. Ever since co I got a taste for it and now I can't
- 35:39stop even though I know it would save me. The only I I've checked this. The only
- 35:46difference is I've got to pay a tip to the driver.
- 35:50Like Walmart and Whole Foods I don't have to pay to have stuff delivered. And
- 35:56as far as I can tell the price is exactly the same. The only thing I've
- 35:58got to pay is I got to pay the a tip to the driver which is usually about 10
- 36:01bucks. And then and sometimes it's just worth 10 bucks to me to just be able to
- 36:06stay home with my kiddo, you know? >> Well, I think it is because your time is
- 36:09worth money. >> Yeah. And because if I go to the shops
- 36:12with her, we're buying a bunch of [ __ ] I don't need. More than $10 [laughter]
- 36:16worth of [ __ ] cookies and [ __ ] So,
- 36:21>> I don't know. I I for me, the trade-off has been worth
- 36:24>> the trade-off is good for me. And I also, but the good thing is is at where
- 36:28I am, they do have people on the registers still. >> Yeah.
- 36:32>> Cuz they've made a thing like, "No, people are complaining. We'll have
- 36:35people on the register so you can still >> Mhm. >> do that. No one uses them."
- 36:40>> All right. >> But they're there. >> Yeah. They're waiting.
- 36:46>> I'm trying to find out how I get my green Xbox. >> I'm going to stop.
- 36:51>> Shut down these windows. >> You've had all day to do that. It just hit me.
- 36:57>> You've been playing games all day, haven't you? >> No, I've been asleep all day again.
- 37:01>> Interesting. All right. >> I got home at >> Getting old, mate.
- 37:05>> I know. I got home at what, 8:00? No, would have been 9:00 last night, and I
- 37:10slept from then until about an hour ago. >> [ __ ] hell.
- 37:15>> It's what I do on weekends. If I'm not at work, I sleep. >> All right. Or play games.
- 37:21No, >> I've actually been sleeping lately. Huh? All right. >> I play games at lunch.
- 37:28[laughter] >> That's why you you you're never going to get your game score
- 37:35reasonable. >> I'm still getting at least a thousand gamer score a day.
- 37:38>> I don't know, mate. You're going to keep that little wimpy gamer score you've got
- 37:41if you don't try harder. [snorts] >> I can't I will never catch fifth in Australia.
- 37:46>> Yeah. My daughter's coming for you, mate. She's got two achievements. She's
- 37:50coming for you. Like let's have a look. Where am I? Oh,
- 37:56this is why I know I think this sort of taken the sale wind out of my sales a little bit.
- 38:02>> My links uh my leaderboards
- 38:06six in Australia. I got 4,700 and the person in front of
- 38:13me has 6 million. >> Oh, that's [ __ ] man. I don't even have
- 38:19a million. >> Yeah. So they're they're like >> big gap.
- 38:24>> Yeah. [clears throat] 1.22 million in front of me essentially.
- 38:27>> But you've overtaken people. >> I've overtaken a lot of people. Yes.
- 38:30>> So I mean it's not impossible like if that person >> also just sleeps all the time.
- 38:36[laughter] >> This person see everyone above me is very very active. >> Right. Yeah.
- 38:42>> The person behind me is 3.8. So no, like I'm probably
- 38:48horrible for them thinking I'm never going to get six in Australia, >> right?
- 38:55>> And in the world I'm 141. >> That's [ __ ] That's pretty [ __ ] good.
- 39:00>> That I can make some [laughter] that that I can make some difference in.
- 39:03>> Yeah, right. >> That I could probably get to the top 100.
- 39:06>> I wonder what I am in the world. You can check that, can't you?
- 39:09>> I could probably check that. Um, leadable standings. I don't know how
- 39:15to check it cuz these are my saved ones. I'll let you know next time.
- 39:19>> All right. And do I I would have a ranking in Australia. Would I or no?
- 39:25>> Or would I not anymore? >> Oh, I don't know. It depends if you
- 39:28change your region, which you probably would have. >> I did.
- 39:32>> So, yeah, your region would have changed to >> Oh, okay. >> Yeah. >> US.
- 39:36>> Depends where your console account is based is where it pulls it from. Yeah,
- 39:41definitely changed it. All right. Well, look, on the topic of consoles and such
- 39:45things, we now know what the Steam Machine is and will cost, and there's
- 39:52been some reviews and stuff like that. Let's begin with the cost. I suppose
- 39:56it's [ __ ] expensive. >> Um,
- 40:01>> uh, we were thinking if it was under $1,000, it would be a it would probably
- 40:06sell. It's not under $1,000. No, >> it's $1,049
- 40:12minimum. >> In Australia, it's >> to get the
- 40:18half like 512 GB, it's 1,600.
- 40:24>> So, you would be better off getting >> the two terabyte.
- 40:28This This doesn't make any sense to me. M. >> So, the Steam Machine with the like the
- 40:34half a terabyte and a controller is 1,728. >> Mhm.
- 40:39>> To get the two terbte one with the controller is only an extra $500.
- 40:462,200, >> right? >> So, and memory [snorts]
- 40:51is not cheap. So, it's you're only paying 500 more to get one and a half
- 40:57more terabytes of >> I don't know, mate. [laughter]
- 41:02>> That the math just isn't math.
- 41:07>> Yeah. I don't know. I mean, you're not just paying for the um memory, so I'm
- 41:13[snorts] sure there's a I mean, I'm sure there's a reason.
- 41:17>> Um I'm looking Look, there doesn't seem to be anything different.
- 41:22It's just the memory. It seems to be the only change in price. >> Oh, okay. Interesting.
- 41:28>> Like normally, I know sometimes with the cheaper ones, it's a different
- 41:32>> Yeah. Yeah. Different. >> Maybe not as much RAM or something like
- 41:35that, but no, this is one to one. It's just a memory seems to be the only difference.
- 41:42>> Well, I'm sure they've got a reason for it. Um,
- 41:46>> but yeah, it's it's really expensive and I mean a lot of I'm sure there some
- 41:51people who will buy it, but a lot there are a lot of people online who I follow
- 41:55who have previously had said this is a this is a day one purchase who have said
- 42:00>> I'm out. >> Like I'm not buying it. It's too expensive for what it is. It's like
- 42:07>> it's not a bad machine, but it's not that great. Like it's fine. Basically,
- 42:13it's it's fine. >> You're essentially buying a a console that's going to cost >> well
- 42:20>> twice as much as a console. >> It's not even a console. It's just like
- 42:22a little PC. And then there people I guess it's hard. I don't know right how
- 42:28much stuff costs now. Like could you build a PC for that price? Probably.
- 42:33>> You you could. >> Yeah. Like a equally powerful one. I mean, I know. I'm sure.
- 42:37>> Oh, yeah. Definitely def most definitely you could.
- 42:40>> Yeah. Okay. So, what are you paying for? I guess the form factor and the
- 42:42integrations and whatnot. Um, >> yeah, it's just But no, it's it's made
- 42:47for Steam Control, it's great for streaming. It's all this all seems to be
- 42:51focused on the gaming side. >> Yeah. >> Which is great. So, is it so that people
- 42:57can say there's still PC master race? But >> maybe
- 43:01>> I mean, so I've linked I linked the the IGN review. They said like it is
- 43:06expensive, right? people have gotten sticker shock already cuz they weren't
- 43:11thinking it was going to be this expensive because at the time it was
- 43:13announced it wouldn't have been based on the specs >> but they're saying it is actually
- 43:20competitive like to build an equivalent >> to build Okay. Y
- 43:25>> apparent apparently would be pretty similar and uh
- 43:31>> but what operating system though that's the thing like the operating system
- 43:35>> put whatever you want on it. Yeah, >> it comes with Steam OS, but you can put
- 43:39whatever you want on. >> Yep. >> Um, it doesn't have I don't think it has
- 43:45any expansion slots or anything like that, which is a I mean, most people
- 43:49wouldn't want that. Uh, >> I do have a high-speed micro SD card
- 43:55slot. Yes,
- 43:58basic IGN saying at at 1049 and 1349 for the two terabyte model, the Steam
- 44:04Machine seems like it would be hard to recommend most people.
- 44:10So, there you go. Like, it's it's a bummer, man. Like, I feel like if
- 44:16if we didn't have this this part shortage and this was priced better,
- 44:21this would be great. I'd be interested in this. >> Wondering how long to the
- 44:26to this part shortage writes itself.
- 44:33Don't know >> cuz yeah that's what I like is it would you accept this or are they in the
- 44:39process of building more factories to build these or >> what's happening
- 44:44>> like my I was the way >> no and like my laptop is is great right
- 44:48I bought a I bought an M3 MacBook Pro a couple years ago
- 44:53>> and at the time I was like do I >> bump up the specs a bit to try and make
- 45:00it last a while and then I'm glad that I said Yes, [laughter] I did. Right. It's
- 45:05It's got pretty good specs. >> So, I'm going to be riding this out for a while.
- 45:10>> Yeah. Well, I think that my computer's probably what, three years old at the moment.
- 45:16>> Yeah. >> And I've still got probably another three years out of this easy before I'd
- 45:20have to even >> look at just more RAM or anything because I don't really use it too much
- 45:25for gaming, but it still runs all the games I want at the high end.
- 45:31>> Yeah. So, well, I've got my I got my Xbox uh and a Switch, too. They're the
- 45:35ones I use most. I do have a PS5, but I forget that it's in there. Um and then I
- 45:38mean, because I'm not going to be buying anything else for a while at at this rate.
- 45:42>> Like, it's just not feasible. And uh I'm I'm glad I got the switch to early
- 45:48before because there was that initial price hike because of the tariffs. >> Y
- 45:52>> and then now that there's the price is going up even more. So, I'm glad I've
- 45:54got that. And I guess that's just going to And I'm playing on GeForce Cloud as
- 46:00we've talked before. I wonder if the price of that is going to go up.
- 46:04>> Well, I would say yes. And I think there might be
- 46:07>> cuz that'll that'll push me off to be honest.
- 46:11>> There might be a bigger push for people to move to doing something like that as
- 46:14well because that is a cheaper version than going out and buying your own system. Yeah.
- 46:21>> So, that can put more strain on what you got, which means they're going to have
- 46:24to to charge more while they go out and buy more.
- 46:29>> Yeah. Oh, they've put the price down. Wait, how did I not know this? You bastards.
- 46:36They put the price down the other week as in a sale and no one told me. I could have
- 46:42>> Because Yeah, because you were paying for it. You don't get
- 46:45>> I could have upgraded to the ultimate one for cheaper, you bastards. Anyway,
- 46:50[laughter] I'll look at that later. That's annoying. But yeah, if they put the price up on
- 46:55that too much, I'll probably stop doing that, too. And I'll just play on my
- 46:58Xbox, which is here in the house, and I don't have to worry about it. >> And it works.
- 47:03>> Yeah, it'll I won't be able to play Dune until >> October, I think. >> Yeah.
- 47:10But oh well. I have to say goodbye to my Dune character probably. >> Yeah,
- 47:15>> I'm playing a bit more Dune this week. >> You have?
- 47:18>> I'm still playing it. Yeah, I'm still playing it. It's still fun. It's a fun game.
- 47:21>> No, I Fencom is great. >> Yeah. Yeah.
- 47:27>> You You gone off You had your go on Conan though. >> Uh
- 47:32>> remembered it for a little bit. >> No, look, the new version of Conan is
- 47:35great. It's just that I've got so little time to play games that like I pop in
- 47:38there, but and I'm kind of like the the >> Dune makes you play it because otherwise
- 47:45your base will degrade. >> So that's a lot to do with it. Like if
- 47:49it didn't have that, I might have I might have been playing it less. >> Yeah. >> But um
- 47:54>> but yeah, you don't have time to play two big games like that.
- 47:57>> Yeah. Because I know I have to log in and power up my shields.
- 48:00>> I get in there and I'm like, well, I'll do some stuff while I'm here. And then
- 48:03that and then I'm like, okay, well that's my gaming time done. Like Yeah.
- 48:07>> Yeah. And you probably got people who live right next door to you go, "Why
- 48:10this guy keep logging in? I want to take over that area."
- 48:14>> Not having it. They're not having it. There is a new base next to me. a big
- 48:17[ __ ] cube and it's hideous. I logged in the other day and I was like, "What
- 48:22is that monstrosity?" [ __ ] off, mate. Like, make an effort. [laughter] Just a big
- 48:28>> See, at least when I move in next to you, life's going to be just a small
- 48:32cube that I had to use for the And that's it. >> Yeah.
- 48:36>> Well, you'll be you'll be miles away from me then. [laughter] >> Well,
- 48:43>> you can just live in my base. Well, I don't think it's got crossplay, which I
- 48:46think is going to be the worst thing. >> No, no, that'll be annoying.
- 48:51>> Um, we've got some uh some GTA 6 news. Not a lot of it, just a little bit of
- 48:57GTA 6 news. Um, this will be this is obviously going to
- 49:01annoy people, but uh the physical copy
- 49:05of GTA 6 apparently on all platforms uh is just going to be a code in a box.
- 49:11Well, that's >> so why why bother? >> Why bother? Um, when I brought the
- 49:16special edition of the Starfield, that was just a code [clears throat] in a box,
- 49:22>> but it did come with a watch and all this other stuff.
- 49:25>> Yeah. Do you wear that watch? Where is that watch? >> I I don't know.
- 49:31>> I wore it for a little bit. It was a pretty good watch. >> I just don't wear watches,
- 49:35>> right? Defeats purpose. >> Um, >> yeah. So, you're not going to be getting
- 49:41a disc of this. There aren't any, apparently. >> And it's weird because the disc is also
- 49:45launching a month after as well. [laughter] >> I didn't know that. That's funny.
- 49:51>> Not the disc. I mean the physical version. >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. But that's
- 49:55>> that's weird. >> Like cuz the game releases in November
- 49:58and then the physical version comes out in December, but it's just a code. So
- 50:03>> Yeah. Right. >> Why? You got to pay to >> get a box.
- 50:10>> Okay. I guess >> I guess they're from their perspective,
- 50:14they just want to get it in stores so that your grandma can buy it for you. I
- 50:17guess that's probably what they're thinking. Whereas if you're a collector,
- 50:22>> I mean, give up on that, you know. >> Although that does look like there's a
- 50:27reason why they're doing it. Redeemable codes will prevent the game from leaking early.
- 50:33>> That's true. Yeah. Yeah, that's true. But still, if he was buying a physical,
- 50:38I I don't want to buy a case. >> Like, that's the reason that they're
- 50:41doing it. That's absurd. But you already said they delayed it. Just delay it like
- 50:45that and have an actual disc. If you delay, that's not an issue. >> If it's still on disc,
- 50:52>> it always think they're not putting it on discs in the world. They're like, "We
- 50:56don't want any copies of this on the disc cuz someone might have it." >> Yes.
- 50:59>> I feel like >> I don't know. I'm just If you look at
- 51:01the t the title article and just That's right. I'm not I'm not having a go at
- 51:06you, mate. I'm just saying I feel like this is a flawed if this is why they're
- 51:10doing it. I feel like there's a flaw there, which is that
- 51:12>> the digital one can easily be pirated as well. >> And it will be
- 51:18>> in the box appears to be contradicted by Super. >> I predict this game will quickly be
- 51:24pirated. [gasps] >> Oh, I don't think they're worried about
- 51:27pirating. I think they're worried about it just leaking and people seeing it
- 51:32being played, which If you don't print the physical discs
- 51:36until a month later, that's not going to happen.
- 51:39>> Exactly. But the in saying this, but the code in the box appears to contradict an
- 51:45earlier statement from Take 2 CEO asked about online rumors Rockstar might
- 51:49delay the release of the physical copies until 2027 in order to avoid leaks. He
- 51:55responded, "That's not the plan." >> Well, plans change, I guess. Or maybe
- 52:01he's counting on an empty box as a physical version, skipping discs at
- 52:05launch. I don't know. We'll have to wait and see. I do know how much the game is
- 52:08going to cost in Australia, though. >> How much? >> 130.
- 52:13>> How much does the game normally cost now? I don't have any
- 52:16>> 110 to All right. So, it's a bit more. >> It's No, but 120. Like, it's it's not
- 52:22unreasonable. >> No. Okay. How much is it going to be
- 52:26here? I don't know. I don't care because I don't >> You're not gonna buy it?
- 52:30>> I don't know, man. I feel like I should try it, but I don't
- 52:36want to pay that much money for it at launch. >> Oh, there games I am interested in that
- 52:41I don't buy at launch. >> Yeah, I feel like I'm not going to buy this.
- 52:45>> Well, I've got you to tell me whether I should play it or not.
- 52:48>> Well, the thing is I I there's no point in me telling you because you don't like
- 52:52these games. I like these games. >> Yeah. No, like was it there was a game I
- 52:58wanted recently and I just haven't I'm not going to buy it because I'll wait.
- 53:02Oh, Resident Evil. I really want to play that, but I'm going to wait till it's on sale.
- 53:08>> Oh, I did see an article recently that saying that they're not going to be
- 53:11doing remakes of Resident Evil five and six. And I went, I know why.
- 53:17>> Because they weren't very good. >> They weren't very good, >> but make them good.
- 53:20>> One of them is set in Haiti. And I think that could be interesting if you
- 53:26uh >> I don't I don't I haven't played the actual game, but I'm imagining it
- 53:31probably didn't do a lot with it, but Haiti as the source of zombies
- 53:35>> could be a really cool setting. >> Yeah, I don't think they did a lot with
- 53:38it. Six was to some co-opy thing that just was horrible, but >> right,
- 53:43>> I think they're just stopping because they know that they know their audience.
- 53:47I don't know that they stopped being good at four until they did the new ones. >> Yeah.
- 53:52>> So they came back with seven and sort of restarted the whole genre.
- 53:57>> When I say the source of zombies, like Haiti, the law of like as in zombies as
- 54:01we know them in in media and Hollywood, that comes from like Haitian tradition.
- 54:07>> So I feel like you could make >> carefully. I guess you'd have to be
- 54:11respectful. You'd have to be careful about it. But I feel like it would be an
- 54:15interesting setting if somebody was able to do that.
- 54:18>> But maybe that game's not the game for that. >> But but but yeah, that that that
- 54:21wouldn't be a remake. That would be going back and redoing the game just
- 54:25>> No, they do do that. They do do that. Yeah. [laughter] Okay, fine. But make a
- 54:28new game and set it there. I just think that would be really interesting as a as
- 54:31[clears throat] a setting >> because I I think I talk I talked about
- 54:34it already. I read a book about the um the source of uh the is they tell you
- 54:39about this the botonist the the uh paleo the botist who went to he got sent
- 54:46to Haiti to try and figure out what zombies were cuz they it's like a
- 54:49cultural thing over there and like they people say that they literally die and
- 54:53then come back and then the short version of it is he discovers that um
- 54:57there's a a powder that they make that has a bunch of stuff in it but one of
- 55:00the main things is like puffer fish uh dried in it. And he found that in Japan
- 55:06in particular, the puffer fish you had to eat fugu, the puffer fish. >> Yeah.
- 55:09>> You can eat if you eat it and you eat the toxin, the tetrototoxin,
- 55:14>> you can literally appear dead, >> be conscious, be present for your funeral. This this
- 55:20has literally happened to people. Everyone thinks they're dead. They're
- 55:24not dead. They're still conscious. They've experienced their funeral. And
- 55:29in they he says people must have been buried alive because of this. Some
- 55:34people have not and that's how we know about it.
- 55:36>> But that apparently that's what it is is that they they make this powder and um
- 55:40>> it's a combination of you get poisoned with this stuff.
- 55:44>> You go into this state, everyone thinks you're dead, they bury you,
- 55:48>> the the people uh come and dig you up
- 55:53and then revive you. Uh, and then you become a zombie, which is basically an
- 55:58indentured servant for the for the like the the shaman kind of thing. And they
- 56:03put you to work and stuff like that. And then um there's this case of this one
- 56:07guy investigates who the shaman was killed by one of the zombies and then
- 56:12they all thought, "Oh, the spell's broken." And so they went home, but they
- 56:16were shunned by the family and the and the community because they were zombies.
- 56:20And it's like this whole it's this weird mix of >> It's fascinating. Yeah. No, the book is
- 56:26really interesting because it's this mix of of like poisoned and then culturally
- 56:31they think, well, you're not my son anymore. You're this other thing. And so
- 56:36>> I the reason why that probably killed the child is I don't want to be your
- 56:41slave anymore. >> Somebody figured out, hang on, I'm not
- 56:44actually under this guy's control. But but like yeah, it's just Yeah, it's just
- 56:47this fascinating cultural thing where this happens to you and you go, oh [ __ ]
- 56:51I'm a zombie. So you just accept it and then like >> wow.
- 56:55>> Yeah. Not necess probably [laughter] not. You just got poisoned, mate. >> Yeah.
- 57:00>> But but then Yeah. They go back to the their town and everyone's like, "Fuck
- 57:03off, mate. You're a zombie. Don't want anything to do with you."
- 57:07>> Uh yeah, it's interesting. >> It's sad for them.
- 57:10>> Yeah. Anyway, I think that [laughter] background >> that could be awesome.
- 57:15>> And and there's more to The book goes into why and like the slave revolt and
- 57:19that because it's like it's it's an interesting story and it would make a cool game.
- 57:25>> Yes. >> I don't think Resident Evil 6 is that game though or five. Whichever one. I
- 57:29think it was six. >> It was five. >> Was it five or someone in Haiti? Okay. >> Yep.
- 57:35>> Anyway, >> need to see if I can still get the achievements on that on PC.
- 57:42>> Also, >> feel free to fact check me on any of that. I just read a book [laughter]
- 57:46and that's that's what I remember from the book. So, if anybody out there is
- 57:49listening to this going, "You're full of shit." Let me know because I don't mean
- 57:52to be. I just read a book and I thought it was interesting.
- 57:55>> Yeah, sometimes we remember stuff wrong. >> Yeah, it wasn't that long ago, so I'm
- 58:00pretty sure that's what the book was saying. But again,
- 58:05>> pretty sure I remember stuff wrong the most. >> I'm pretty sure you remember stuff
- 58:10wrong. Dan reads headlines wrong. >> Yes. [laughter]
- 58:13in a funny way sometimes. Sorry, Dan. I know Dan's listening to this going, "Fuck you."
- 58:18>> Just just just read that extra line under that one.
- 58:22>> Oh, we've got some followup actually courtesy of Dan who >> yes
- 58:27>> messaged us the other day asking why we pronounce a certain former former
- 58:32celebrity. That's a weird way to say it. [laughter] Uh,
- 58:37apparently you and I both say and I'm going to say it because this is just how
- 58:40I say his name. Anthony Stewart Head. I don't know why I say it that way.
- 58:45Anthony Stewart Head. I don't know why I say it that way, but we think that's
- 58:49very funny because his name is obviously Anthony Head.
- 58:53>> And they don't credit him as well, they don't credit him as Anthony Stewart Head
- 58:58in a lot of things. He's just Anthony Head or Tony. They call him Tony Head.
- 59:02Anthony Head. Anthony Head. Actor and singer. I just always believe Anthony
- 59:09Stewart >> because in the credits of Buffy he's Anthony Stewart and hang check something
- 59:13in the credits is his is the name Stwart slightly larger in the font or something
- 59:18[laughter] cuz I don't know why I do that.
- 59:24>> So is it one of these cases where he changed his name
- 59:28to be shorter later or something and I just didn't
- 59:32>> No, I mean he's included his middle name for some reason. Uh,
- 59:37why is Anthony No. Why is he as Giles? No, cuz he was a famous actor. I'm
- 59:42assuming that's why. Why does Anthony Head have the have his
- 59:48middle name sometimes? [laughter]
- 59:56Oh, because there's another actor called Tony Head.
- 1:00:01So to avoid confusion, he's Anthony Stewart >> head.
- 1:00:06>> Yeah. Anthony Stewart Head. Anthony Stewart
- 1:00:10>> head. [laughter] >> Anyway,
- 1:00:16he called us out on that. >> Yeah, but I didn't realize I was doing anything weird.
- 1:00:21>> Write in. Let us know. How do you say his name? [snorts]
- 1:00:24>> Yes. Put it in writing how you say his name. >> Where do you emphasize his name? And is
- 1:00:29it Stuart? Because apparently that's where we emphasize it.
- 1:00:34Anthony Stewart Head. Not Anthony. Not Stewart Head.
- 1:00:40>> Do you know that he Anthony Stewart Head played Dr. Frankenfer?
- 1:00:45>> Yes, I did know that in the stage play. >> I didn't know that.
- 1:00:47>> Yeah, in a stage play. >> Yeah, [snorts] I would have seen that.
- 1:00:51>> Yeah. Yeah. [ __ ] yeah.
- 1:00:56[sighs] Ah, I I just saw Repo and then and um [ __ ] what's his name? Damon
- 1:01:02was his what's the director? Repo J Cor Damon
- 1:01:08Darren Darren Lin Bowsman. Sorry. The director did a little intro video when
- 1:01:12we saw it because it's like a rescreening of it all. And he said that the
- 1:01:16>> thanks to the fans uh it's not off the table that there'll be a follow-up. >> Oh.
- 1:01:22>> Well, he wouldn't be in it anyway because he dies. Spoilers. Yeah.
- 1:01:25>> Um but yeah, I was just like, "Oh, that's a shame." Because he could have
- 1:01:28been involved somehow. >> Yeah. >> But yeah, he wouldn't it wouldn't be starring him.
- 1:01:33>> No, >> he dies at the end. Spoilers.
- 1:01:39Yeah. >> Shame.
- 1:01:43Anyway, uh, one interesting one that I saw this week is that Richard Garrett,
- 1:01:50uh, famed, uh, game maker made Ultima, >> uh, of which
- 1:01:56>> I have an original copy of it up there. >> Ultima is still going, isn't it?
- 1:02:01>> I don't think so. Currently, >> uh, oh, they might might have kept Ultima online.
- 1:02:06>> Yeah. >> Running, but I don't know. >> But yeah, the Eccentric Lord British.
- 1:02:12Yes. Lord British. Yeah. Y >> uh he's an eccentric man. He's a
- 1:02:16astronaut now. Uh amongst other things. Um >> is he an actual astronaut?
- 1:02:22>> Yeah, I think so. >> Was he one of those ones that went up and down [laughter]
- 1:02:26>> in an elevator? >> I don't count those ones. >> Richard Garrett astronaut
- 1:02:33is a real astronaut.
- 1:02:39Yes, he became the sixth private citizen to head into space when he spent 12 days
- 1:02:45aboard the ISS. >> Okay, >> that's legit. >> That's legit.
- 1:02:49>> Um, so anyway, he's trying to get the rights to Ultima back to make another game.
- 1:02:54>> Where did Where did he get his money from? >> From Ultima, I think.
- 1:02:59>> He didn't get go to space money from Ultima, did he?
- 1:03:02>> Oh, I think he might have. Ultima was huge. >> Wow.
- 1:03:06>> Back in the 80s. Yeah, those like they made a lot of money those early and and
- 1:03:11I guess he was smarter with it. You hear about you know Sierra and what they got up to
- 1:03:16>> and they went bankrupt at one point. Like that was that's cuz they they
- 1:03:19weren't smart with it. They were too busy building hot tubs and >> hiring
- 1:03:24disreputable uh ladies to be in the hot tubs. [laughter]
- 1:03:29>> It was it was research for games.
- 1:03:32>> Yes, I'm sure it was. Um but uh yeah, so
- 1:03:38Richard Garrett's trying to get the rights to Ultimate Back and apparently
- 1:03:41he might or
- 1:03:45spotting new trademarks like he he he might be able to do it. There's some
- 1:03:49obscure law uh because EA's not been doing anything with it and he wants to
- 1:03:54take it back. >> So yeah, that could be
- 1:04:00Oh, I can see. So he sold where was it? just saw.
- 1:04:05So, Ultimate 2 was published by Sierra, but the third game Garrett opted to form
- 1:04:11his own label in ' 83, Origin Systems, >> which he sold which was purchased by EA
- 1:04:17>> for $30 million. That's $30 million in 92. >> Yeah. Yeah. So, as long as he wasn't a
- 1:04:23dumbass with that money, which it seems like he wasn't, >> uh, you know, he's good.
- 1:04:28>> Yep. >> Um, he's a strange man. like he like
- 1:04:32he's a weird dude. Uh but I feel like let him have it back.
- 1:04:37>> I'd be interested to see what he do with it with today's technology
- 1:04:40>> or let him let like at least you know let him do something with it. If EA is
- 1:04:44not going to do anything with it, let him do it. >> Yeah. I wonder what sort of
- 1:04:48>> It's like a 35 year rule where uh Okay. An obscure copyright law dictates the
- 1:04:54original creator is allowed to reclaim work after 35 years. Uh however, the key
- 1:05:00word is copyright. EA would still retain retain the trademark to Ultima, meaning
- 1:05:04he would be able to make an Ultima game, but have to brand it distinctively from
- 1:05:08EA's property. Okay. >> It's sort of weird. >> Yeah. >> Couldn't he possibly already do
- 1:05:14something like that now? >> You would think so. Just make a role playing game. >> Yeah.
- 1:05:19>> I mean, you're not going to make it the same as the original Ultima. Surely.
- 1:05:22Like, don't make that. No one No one wants that. >> No one's playing that. [laughter]
- 1:05:27>> Make a new one. Just call it Blimma. But I think I think the big thing is he he'd
- 1:05:32want to be Lord British still. And I think that might be
- 1:05:36>> Yes, that's a good point. I wonder if they own that. Would they own Maybe
- 1:05:41>> I'd say they would. >> Yeah. >> He still calls himself that, doesn't he?
- 1:05:47>> For anyone who doesn't know, Lord British is the king of Britannia.
- 1:05:52Britannia, the the world of Ultima. >> And uh it's it's Richard Garrett put
- 1:05:57himself in there as Lord British. And so he calls himself Lord British in the real world.
- 1:06:02>> The guy who goes by the name Lord British is in short a character. >> He is.
- 1:06:07>> He hasn't clarified what EA's trademark refer to or what will future Ultima
- 1:06:13would be. He suggests fans pop by his upcoming appearance at Dragon Kong in
- 1:06:19Atlanta. [laughter] Of course, [gasps] >> by then he'll say he says he'll hope to
- 1:06:25have more thoughts to together about what will what that will actually mean.
