- 0:00Speaker 1: We now turn to the Licking Valley Courier to bring
- 0:03you news from in and around West Liberty. Your reader
- 0:06today is Janice. We begin with the addition dated Thursday,
- 0:10July twenty third, twenty twenty six, as a reminder Radio
- 0:15I as a reading service intended for people who are
- 0:17blind or have other disabilities that make it difficult to
- 0:21read printed material. Our first article today is Morgan's Student
- 0:26represents Licking Valley RCC in DC. Maddie Conley shares twenty
- 0:33twenty six Washington Youth Tour Experience. Maddie Conley represented Licking
- 0:39Valley RCC in June on the twenty twenty six Washington
- 0:46Youth Tour, joining rising young leaders from electric cooperative communities
- 0:51across Kentucky for a week of history, government, and civic engagement. Conley,
- 0:57a Morgan County High School senior, was sponsored by Licking
- 1:01Valley RICC on the week long experience. Coordinated by Kentucky
- 1:06Electric Cooperatives and the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association, the
- 1:12program brings together students from electric cooperative communities to experience
- 1:18American history, civic engagement, and cooperative commitment to the community.
- 1:24My favorite parts were making new friends, meeting people from
- 1:28across Kentucky in visiting the Holocaust Museum, Condy says throughout
- 1:33the trip, I learned valuable leadership skills, gained more responsibility,
- 1:38and grew as a person. It was an unforgettable experience
- 1:42that I will always be thankful for. Conley joined Kentucky
- 1:46delegates for visits to Thomas Jefferson's Monticello and George Washington's
- 1:52Mount Vernon before continuing to Washington, d C. Where students
- 1:57toured the US capital museums and memorials on Capitol Hill.
- 2:02The students were engaged and appreciative of the opportunity to
- 2:06discuss important issues with congressional staff members and the US
- 2:12Senator Rand Paul. They spoke up for electric cooperatives, asking
- 2:17about FEMA reform and how to make sure Kentucky co
- 2:20ops are adequately served by FEMA. They also ask about
- 2:25artificial intelligence and the nation's future. The week also included
- 2:30a walking tour of the memorials on the National Mall,
- 2:34stops at the Smithsonian Museums, the White House Visitor Center,
- 2:38the World War One Memorial, the Holocaust Museum, and the
- 2:42National Air and Space Museum at Arlington National Cemetery. The
- 2:47students watched the changing of the guard, and members of
- 2:50the Kentucky delegation laid a wreath at the tomb of
- 2:53the Unknown Soldier. The ceremony gave students time to reflect
- 2:58on service, sacrifice, and the freedoms they were learning about
- 3:03throughout the week. It is a privilege to spend a
- 3:07week in Washington, d C. With some of Kentucky's brightest
- 3:10young leaders, says Mallory wah Fifth WIF, the Statewide Association
- 3:16manager of Cooperative Outreach. As they walk in the footsteps
- 3:21of our nation's founders and experience the democracy firsthand, they
- 3:26are inspired to lead, serve, and make a difference in
- 3:30their own communities. Our next article is artisans Harvest, slated
