Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Big deal for the UK India signing a free trade deal.
- 0:02Speaker 1: Gevin gray Are UK correspondent Gavin good morning to you
- 0:05Speaker 1: must be celebrations of plenty around number ten. YEP.
- 0:09Speaker 2: It's taken three years to get this far. It might
- 0:13Speaker 2: be another year before it's actually implemented and comes into force,
- 0:16Speaker 2: but there's no doubt there's a great degree of celebration.
- 0:19Speaker 2: This wasn't just a fixation of this government but the
- 0:22Speaker 2: last government as well, in order to get a trade
- 0:25Speaker 2: deal with India over the line. Why we'll already trade
- 0:29Speaker 2: between the UK and India totals roughly eighty to ninety
- 0:33Speaker 2: billion New Zealand dollars a year, but that is forecast
- 0:37Speaker 2: to grow and with this trade deal, the government says
- 0:40Speaker 2: you can add another fifty percent onto that easily. The
- 0:45Speaker 2: Prime Minister of Indian or Indo Remodi described the agreement
- 0:48Speaker 2: as an historic milestone that's ambitious and mutually beneficial. So
- 0:52Speaker 2: in essence, I mean, gosh, what there are lower tariffs
- 0:55Speaker 2: coming into the UK for Indian manufactured clothing and where
- 1:00Speaker 2: food stuffs including frozen prawns, jewelry and going the other
- 1:04Speaker 2: way from the UK levees will fall on Gin and
- 1:08Speaker 2: Whiskey aerospace, electrical megnical devices, all sorts of things. But
- 1:13Speaker 2: the British government says this is the biggest and most
- 1:15Speaker 2: economically significant bilateral trade agreement that the UK has science
- 1:19Speaker 2: since leaving the European Union in twenty twenty, and are
- 1:24Speaker 2: quick to also highlight that it won't mean more visas
- 1:28Speaker 2: being given out to Indians, which has been a subject
- 1:30Speaker 2: of some debate with the migration levels here in the UK.
- 1:33Speaker 1: It's interesting what's not well, it's as interesting what's not
- 1:37Speaker 1: included as what is right As you say, no visas
- 1:40Speaker 1: and from a New Zealand perspective, no Lamb yes, but
- 1:45Speaker 1: dearie no, and deary is a big one for us.
- 1:47Speaker 1: We're over there trying to negotiate at the moment. But
- 1:49Speaker 1: that is fantastic news for you guys. Givin now. The
- 1:52Speaker 1: cardinals are all going to be locked up from tomorrow, right, Yeah.
- 1:57Speaker 2: So I hear that they are all currently in the Vatican.
- 2:01Speaker 2: They've all all arrived safely at Vatican City and the
- 2:04Speaker 2: doors will lock officially tomorrow morning. But I don't think
- 2:06Speaker 2: anyone's in nipping out for a late dinner this evening.
- 2:09Speaker 2: One hundred and thirty three Catholic cardinals in what's probably
- 2:12Speaker 2: going to be the most secretive election again of all time.
- 2:17Speaker 2: I would guess even the dining room staff who feed
- 2:20Speaker 2: the cardinals have had to observe absolute and perpetual secrecy.
- 2:24Speaker 2: Two doctors are on hand. Apparently the chapel and the
- 2:27Speaker 2: two guesthouses being used for accommodation and the actual conclave
- 2:31Speaker 2: are going to be swept for microphones and bugs. Now
- 2:35Speaker 2: all Catholics around the world will say this election is
- 2:37Speaker 2: guided by God and not politics, but it is these
- 2:41Speaker 2: cardinals who are going to be making a very very
- 2:43Speaker 2: big decision. And apparently in the rooms, no televisions, newspapers
- 2:48Speaker 2: or radio for the conclave. They can't even open the
- 2:51Speaker 2: windows because some of the windows open to the external world.
- 2:55Speaker 2: So the start of probably several days process before we
- 2:59Speaker 2: eventually find out who is the next Pope, and plenty
- 3:01Speaker 2: of speculation that could be one cardinal from Asia, and
- 3:05Speaker 2: also some speculation it could even be a new pope
- 3:09Speaker 2: might come from Africa, but we know nothing yet.
- 3:13Speaker 1: Kevin Gray for more from early edition with Ryan Bridge.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Listen live to news talks.
- 3:18Speaker 2: It'd be from five am weekdays or follow the podcast
- 3:22Speaker 2: on iHeartRadio,
