- 0:00Speaker 1: We're live Acafer with Geed Oriema. It is you kind
- 0:05Speaker 1: of love with basketball show. We're we're just we're just
- 0:07Speaker 1: continuing the conversation on the assistance, thinking stuff and passing
- 0:11Speaker 1: the basketball.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Like if you don't hear the words out of coming
- 0:13Speaker 2: out of my mouth, listen, I have a suggestion for you.
- 0:16Speaker 2: If I don't say that, it's not a suggestion that
- 0:19Speaker 2: means I want you to do this.
- 0:22Speaker 3: I mean that makes sense?
- 0:23Speaker 1: Right, Yeah, so it usually works.
- 0:25Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, works.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Well, you know you've you've talked about that for a
- 0:29Speaker 1: while now, though times have change.
- 0:31Speaker 3: It's not like and yeah, but it was me. Spetter
- 0:34Speaker 3: used to pull that nonsense. You know.
- 0:37Speaker 2: Every time I said something other than shoot, she would go,
- 0:41Speaker 2: I do not understand.
- 0:43Speaker 3: No speak English, No speak English. Right, but when I said, listen,
- 0:47Speaker 3: you need to shoot it. See, yep, there you go.
- 0:50Speaker 1: Speaking of which offensively, not only is page getting going,
- 0:55Speaker 1: but you know who's been sneaking sinky good lately, Caylen Chen,
- 0:58Speaker 1: your point guard. Offensively, she's been her first three game
- 1:02Speaker 1: stretch of double figures this season. She's beneficient in doing that.
- 1:07Speaker 2: Yeah, I think she's surprised a lot of people on
- 1:12Speaker 2: our team. On our staff and then our league to
- 1:15Speaker 2: it because she wasn't necessarily known as a good three
- 1:20Speaker 2: point shooter because she didn't shoot a lot of them,
- 1:23Speaker 2: you know, right, she just got the ball. You see
- 1:26Speaker 2: her when she gets in the lane, she's pretty good,
- 1:28Speaker 2: Like I mean, she finishes right hand, the left hand.
- 1:30Speaker 3: She's got a little nice little you know, shot, fake
- 1:33Speaker 3: little pull up. But she's worked really really hard on it.
- 1:37Speaker 2: And you know, you try to talk to these kids
- 1:40Speaker 2: and you tell them, listen when you leave here, if
- 1:42Speaker 2: you want to play at another level and you're a
- 1:45Speaker 2: guard and you can't make threes, you're not going to
- 1:47Speaker 2: last very long you want to you're not gonna make
- 1:49Speaker 2: it through training camp. So you've got to be able
- 1:52Speaker 2: to be a threat from the three point line. And
- 1:55Speaker 2: she spent a lot of time on it. She's worked
- 1:57Speaker 2: really really hard on it, and.
- 2:00Speaker 3: I trust it.
- 2:00Speaker 2: Like if she shoots the three, I think it's going
- 2:03Speaker 2: in and they're gonna And the interesting thing is they're
- 2:06Speaker 2: going to leave her open because they're going to put
- 2:08Speaker 2: their three best defenders on page As and Sarah, So
- 2:12Speaker 2: that means the other two guys are guarding Jenna and
- 2:17Speaker 2: Caitlin MHM and the challenge for us to be honest
- 2:22Speaker 2: with you when you watch us, Well, why is and
- 2:24Speaker 2: so and so playing? Well, why is and so and
- 2:26Speaker 2: so playing? Why is and so and so playing? You know,
- 2:28Speaker 2: it's like these crazy parents. They all want to know
- 2:31Speaker 2: why their kid isn't playing more because I tell them,
- 2:33Speaker 2: because then if I take if I put your kid in,
- 2:36Speaker 2: I got to take some other kids. I got to
- 2:38Speaker 2: take some other kid out, and then I got their
- 2:40Speaker 2: parents on my butt asking me why they're not playing.
- 2:42Speaker 2: So when you look at our lineup sometimes and you
- 2:45Speaker 2: look at it, you have to look at it in
- 2:48Speaker 2: the sense of what combinations work like Like, for instance,
- 2:53Speaker 2: you can't have two players out there on the perimeter
- 2:57Speaker 2: that the other team doesn't think they have the guard.
- 3:02Speaker 2: You can't because now we have no drives to the
- 3:04Speaker 2: basket because those guys just stand on the lane. We
- 3:07Speaker 2: can't throw it in the lane because they trap everybody.
- 3:10Speaker 2: So you have to have four people on the perimeter
- 3:14Speaker 2: or at least three and a half that can all shoot.
- 3:19Speaker 2: So there's a couple people that you won't see them
- 3:23Speaker 2: together out on the floor ever, because the other team
- 3:27Speaker 2: won't guard them, right, they won't guard.
- 3:30Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean for Caitlin, this is a career high
- 3:32Speaker 1: in number of three's man in a season already with
- 3:34Speaker 1: twenty three I think previous I was twenty two. But
- 3:37Speaker 1: conversely too doing what she does, she Sarah Strong and
- 3:41Speaker 1: Paige are already at the hundred assists mark. It's a
- 3:43Speaker 1: third straight time in her career she's done that and
- 3:45Speaker 1: KKs not that far from one hundred. You haven't had
- 3:49Speaker 1: four players of one hundred of sists or more since
- 3:51Speaker 1: the twenty seventeen eighteen season. You've had three, But to
- 3:55Speaker 1: have four, I mean, that's that's pretty darn good.
- 3:57Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, we we have. You know, we have players
- 4:05Speaker 2: that are pretty good at recognizing where the balls should
- 4:15Speaker 2: go next, and some just so you know how we coach,
- 4:22Speaker 2: there are some players on our team that are not
- 4:25Speaker 2: allowed to pass because we encourage them to shoot it
- 4:32Speaker 2: because if you shoot it, it has a fifty to
- 4:34Speaker 2: fifty chance of going in. If you pass it those kids,
- 4:39Speaker 2: it has no chance to be completed. So just like
- 4:43Speaker 2: you might have some kids to go, listen, you're past first,
- 4:47Speaker 2: shoot second, we have some kids on our team shoot first,
- 4:52Speaker 2: past never. But the guys on our team that are
- 4:57Speaker 2: the most aggressive offensive players, they get an opportunity to
- 5:01Speaker 2: make good passes because they constantly draw more people to
- 5:04Speaker 2: them now, and that's uh so, yeah, we're we're fortunate.
- 5:08Speaker 2: We have a really good passing team this year and
- 5:11Speaker 2: we're playing more players, so that helps. We have more
- 5:15Speaker 2: players that can finish, so that helps. Okay, you know,
- 5:19Speaker 2: all these assists and all that comes out because the
- 5:21Speaker 2: people were passing it to are making shots.
- 5:24Speaker 1: Right, all right, were with Geno. It's the UKON Women's
