- 0:02Welcome to Impact Ready, a show dedicated to helping you elevate
- 0:06your impact in the world. I'm Steph Safra, your host.
- 0:09Let's explore the power of showing up with intention and
- 0:12energy each day. This is for those who seek to
- 0:15make life truly meaningful. Get ready for impact.
- 0:22Hello, team. Hope you're having a great week.
- 0:24Thanks for being here and listening to the show.
- 0:27Let me know if you've ever felt this before.
- 0:29I want to pose a question. Have you ever felt stuck in your
- 0:34life? Maybe you don't know what comes
- 0:36next. You aren't sure which path to
- 0:37take. Maybe you can't even see a path
- 0:40in front of you to take. How many of us have ever felt
- 0:44like that? For me, the answer that comes to
- 0:47mind is pretty much everyone. And I know that this is probably
- 0:50something that you can relate to.
- 0:52Maybe you felt stuck in a relationship with someone, maybe
- 0:54it's not serving you. It could be a romantic
- 0:56relationship, a friendship, could be work related, really
- 0:59any type. Maybe you want to earn more
- 1:01money and you don't have any idea where to start.
- 1:04You're stuck in cycles of stress and worry.
- 1:07Maybe you're stuck in habits with your health that are taking
- 1:10you down a bad path. There's so many ways that we can
- 1:13feel stuck in our life. It's like we can't see more than
- 1:16two feet in front of us. There's no clear path.
- 1:19It feels like we're walking through fog, and it can be
- 1:22incredibly frustrating. I felt this in my life in
- 1:26different seasons to a tremendous degree.
- 1:29I remember feeling it after I graduated college.
- 1:31I was two years in the corporate world outside of college,
- 1:34working my first corporate job. I loved the job.
- 1:37I was incredibly frustrated with where I was in my life because I
- 1:41wasn't helping people. I wasn't feeling like I was
- 1:43having much of an impact and I remember it being one of the
- 1:46most frustrating, confusing fog like times of my life.
- 1:51It happened again when I graduated from my graduate
- 1:53program four years later. It was one of the most heart
- 1:58wrenching times in my life for me.
- 1:59I couldn't see anything seemingly.
- 2:02It was like I was surrounded by thick fog.
- 2:04I didn't know which steps to take, which path go, which
- 2:07direction to be in. It was so frustrating for me.
- 2:10I was also feeling the most depressed I'd ever had.
- 2:13I was feeling anxious. I wasn't sleeping.
- 2:15I was socked in by the fog. It happened again in my early
- 2:1930s when I was trying to figure out what I wanted to do with
- 2:23relationships in my life. I was dating somebody who was
- 2:26lovely person, but I just wasn't feeling like it was the right
- 2:30person for me and I couldn't see the path forward.
- 2:34I was seemingly surrounded by fog, and in the last decade,
- 2:37it's happened multiple times with different situations, with
- 2:41work and relationships and figuring out how to be the best
- 2:46version of myself. There's so many moments where we
- 2:49can get sucked in by the fog. I think it's just part of the
- 2:52human experience and whether or not you've experienced that or
- 2:55whether you're in it right now, this is the reason why we talk
- 2:59about impact. We talk about your personal
- 3:01influence and your effect on the world.
- 3:04There's so many reasons why I think this conversation is
- 3:07important, and we've talked about many of them.
- 3:09First of all, your impact influences those around you.
- 3:12We've talked about that so much, and obviously this is a huge
- 3:15one. We are always having an effect
- 3:18on the people around us, on our environment.
- 3:20Our energy has an effect. We are broadcasting a message to
- 3:23the world just through our energy, but it's not just about
- 3:28the effect that you have on others, although I truly do
- 3:31believe that that's the most valuable currency there is.
- 3:34As Jim Carrey once said, the other reason that impact matters
- 3:38so much is because we as humans really want life to matter.
- 3:43It is a core human desire to feel like there's some
- 3:46significance or meaning to our existence.
- 3:49Without it, people are lost. They feel apathetic, they feel
- 3:54existential angst. They feel greater instances of
- 3:58depression and anxiety to be grounded in purpose that is
- 4:02bigger than us. It is one of the most powerful
- 4:06human desires. Viktor Frankel describes this in
- 4:08his book A Man's Search for Meaning.
- 4:10We know this intuitively. We've felt this in our hearts
- 4:13before. But there is a third reason why
- 4:15impact is so important in my eyes.
- 4:18And it's because impact is about creating the life that you want.
- 4:23When you understand your impact and all the things that go along
- 4:26with it, you are in a better position to be the creator of
- 4:29your life. And that is the way out of the
- 4:32fog. To be the creator of your life,
- 4:35to be empowered to be the captain of your own ship and not
- 4:38be the victim getting tossed around in the waves.
- 4:41This is the gold team. This is why impact matters.
- 4:45It's why it's for everyone who's ever felt stuck at some point in
- 4:49their life, anyone who has ever felt frustrated with where they
- 4:52are now in reference to where they want to be.
- 4:55It matters because everyone has experienced the feeling of being
- 4:59in the fog and not being able to see the steps ahead.
- 5:03And if we think about what impact is, I can distill it down
- 5:07to a few things that I think are really important.
- 5:09It's about energy. The energy that you bring into
- 5:12the room, the energy you bring to your work, the message you're
- 5:15broadcasting. As we talked about, it's also
- 5:18about consistency. It's about the small actions
- 5:21that you take every single day that add up.
- 5:23It's about being consistent with how you show up so that people
- 5:28can trust you and rely on you so you can build relationships.
- 5:31That consistency is what allows for so much power.
- 5:35On the other side, it's also about radical ownership.
- 5:38Radical ownership is saying, hey, this might not be my fault
- 5:42right now. I might not have asked for this
- 5:44in my life, but it's here now and so I am going to take
- 5:47responsibility for it. Radical ownership is about
- 5:50owning your thoughts, your feelings, your beliefs, your
- 5:54actions, your communication, everything that is within you.
- 5:58You take ownership of that. One of the most crucial things
- 6:01about impact, it's about preparation and planning,
- 6:06meaning you schedule things in your life with intention.
- 6:10You are paying attention to what you are saying yes to.
- 6:13You are the controller of what goes on your schedule.
- 6:16You are prepared ahead of time to make an impact.
- 6:21You're planning and thinking ahead about what you want to do
- 6:24with your life, what you want to create for your family.
- 6:28There's such intention. That is the root of this
- 6:31preparation and planning step, and it is one of the biggest
- 6:33pillars of impact. And then finally, it's about
- 6:37choice. We as humans have the ability to
- 6:39choose so much. We choose whether or not we make
- 6:43a move on something. We choose the story that we tell
- 6:46in our heads about our life. We choose how we look at
- 6:49challenge. We choose the perspective that
- 6:51we have about people in the world.
- 6:54There's so much that we can be in choice about.
- 6:56And when we embrace that, again, we're not the victim in our
- 7:00life. We are in choice.
- 7:02And that creates a very powerful impact within somebody.
- 7:05So if you feel like you are stuck in the fog, if you are in
- 7:09one of these moments or seasons in your life, these
- 7:12conversations about impact matter so much.
- 7:15They're truly the gateway to getting access to the motion and
- 7:18the momentum that you want in your life.
- 7:20When you start to focus on those key things that we just talked
- 7:22about, you start to feel more empowered.
- 7:25And that leads to all the things you want.
- 7:27More clarity, more agency, more freedom, more ease, more peace.
- 7:33And those are just the feelings. It also leads to more
- 7:36opportunities when you're more impactful.
- 7:38People want to connect with you more.
- 7:40Your relationships improve with everyone, your family, your
- 7:43kids, your colleagues. People want to start being
- 7:46around you. Things start to line up for you
- 7:48in ways that are just absolutely beautiful and a little bit hard
- 7:52to believe. Your health and your energy
- 7:54improve, which give you the ability to show up in a
- 7:57completely different way, which then just further increases that
- 8:00positive upward spiral. The fog will start to clear out,
- 8:04the cloud cover dissipates, and all the sudden there's these
- 8:07beams of sunlight that are like punching through the sky.
- 8:10It's the best way I can describe it.
- 8:11It's like everything just clears and suddenly you can see.
- 8:14It's why I'm so passionate about this topic and everything that
- 8:17it entails. It's why at the end of the day,
- 8:20harnessing the power of your impact is really about being the
- 8:24most powerful version of ourselves.
- 8:26And when we feel whole and capable and resilient in that
- 8:30way, we just become unstoppable. So this week, I encourage you,
- 8:35if you are in the fog, if you've been feeling like you're stuck
- 8:38in that place, trust me, one of the most powerful things you can
- 8:41do is to lean into your impact. Be thinking about those key
- 8:45things, your energy, your consistency, your radical
- 8:48ownership, your preparation, and then of course, how to be in
- 8:52choice in your life, focusing on those things.
- 8:57That's what's going to start moving the needle for you.
- 8:59Remember, you don't have to see the entire staircase.
- 9:01You don't have to see the entire path.
- 9:03All you have to see is the next few steps.
- 9:07Really, it's the next few steps that you have to see.
- 9:10And I guarantee the more you lean into the influence and
- 9:14effect that you have in the world, the more that stuff is
- 9:16going to clear out. The more the cloud cover and the
- 9:18fog is going to start to clear out.
- 9:20And then you will have the clarity that you want and the
- 9:22ability to see the vision for what you want your life to
- 9:26become. So I hope this helps today.
