- 0:00Speaker 1: Who is my neighbor? Based on Luke Chapter ten, verses
- 0:04Speaker 1: twenty five through thirty seven. Among the Jews, the question
- 0:08Speaker 1: who is my neighbor caused the endless dispute. They had
- 0:12Speaker 1: no doubt as to the Heathen and the Samaritans. These
- 0:16Speaker 1: were strangers and enemies. But where should the distinction be
- 0:20Speaker 1: made among the people of their own nation and among
- 0:22Speaker 1: the different classes of society. Whom should the priest, the rabbi,
- 0:27Speaker 1: the elder regard as their neighbor. They spent their lives
- 0:31Speaker 1: in a round of ceremonies to make themselves pure. Contact
- 0:35Speaker 1: with the ignorant and careless multitude they thought would cause
- 0:39Speaker 1: defilement that would require wearisome effort to remove were they
- 0:43Speaker 1: to regard the unclean as neighbors. This question Christ answered
- 0:47Speaker 1: in the parable of the Good Samaritan. He showed that
- 0:50Speaker 1: our neighbor does not mean merely one of the church
- 0:53Speaker 1: or faith to which we belong. It has no reference
- 0:56Speaker 1: to race, color, or class distinction. Our neighbor is every
- 1:00Speaker 1: person who needs our help. Our neighbor is every soul
- 1:03Speaker 1: who is wounded and bruised by the adversary. Our neighbor
- 1:07Speaker 1: is every one who is the property of God. The
- 1:10Speaker 1: parable of the Good Samaritan was called forth by a
- 1:14Speaker 1: question put to Christ by a doctor of the law.
- 1:17Speaker 1: As the Savior was teaching, a certain lawyer stood up
- 1:20Speaker 1: and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to
- 1:24Speaker 1: inherit eternal life. The Pharisees had suggested this question to
- 1:28Speaker 1: the lawyer in the hope that they might entrap Christ
- 1:31Speaker 1: in his words, and they listened eagerly for his answer.
- 1:35Speaker 1: But the Savior entered into no controversy. He required the
- 1:39Speaker 1: answer from the questioner himself. What is written in the law?
- 1:42Speaker 1: He asked, how readest thou. The Jews still accused Jesus
- 1:47Speaker 1: of lightly regarding the law given from Sinai, but he
- 1:50Speaker 1: turned the question of salvation upon the keeping of God's commandment.
- 1:54Speaker 1: The lawyer said, thou shalt love the Lord thy God,
- 1:57Speaker 1: with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and
- 2:00Speaker 1: with all thy strength, and with all thy mind, and
- 2:03Speaker 1: thy neighbor as thyself. Thou hast answered right. Christ said
- 2:07Speaker 1: this do, and thou shalt live. The lawyer was not
- 2:11Speaker 1: satisfied with the position and works of the Pharisees. He
- 2:15Speaker 1: had been studying the scriptures with a desire to learn
- 2:18Speaker 1: their real meaning. He had a vital interest in the matter,
- 2:22Speaker 1: and he asked insincerity, what shall I do? In his
- 2:26Speaker 1: answer as to the requirements of the law, he passed
- 2:29Speaker 1: by all the mass of ceremonial and ritualistic precepts, for
- 2:34Speaker 1: these he claimed no value, but presented the two great
- 2:38Speaker 1: principles on which hang all the law and the prophets.
- 2:41Speaker 1: The Saviour's commendation of his answer placed him on a
- 2:45Speaker 1: vantage ground with the rabbis. They could not condemn him
- 2:48Speaker 1: for sanctioning that which had been advanced by an expositor
- 2:52Speaker 1: of the law. This do, and thou shalt live. Christ
- 2:55Speaker 1: said in his teaching, he ever presented the law as
- 2:58Speaker 1: a divine unity, showing that it is impossible to keep
- 3:01Speaker 1: one precept and break another, for the same principle runs
- 3:05Speaker 1: through all. Man's destiny will be determined by his obedience
- 3:08Speaker 1: to the whole law. Christ knew that no one could
- 3:12Speaker 1: obey the law in his own strength. He desired to
- 3:16Speaker 1: lead the lawyer to a clearer and more critical research,
- 3:19Speaker 1: that he might find the truth. Only by accepting the
- 3:22Speaker 1: virtue and grace of Christ. Can we keep the law?
- 3:25Speaker 1: Belief in the propitiation for sin enables fallen man to
- 3:29Speaker 1: love God with his whole heart and his neighbor as himself.
- 3:33Speaker 1: The lawyer knew that he had kept neither the first
- 3:36Speaker 1: four nor the last six commandments. He was convicted under
- 3:39Speaker 1: Christ's searching words, but instead of confessing his sin, he
- 3:44Speaker 1: tried to excuse it, rather than acknowledged the truth. He
- 3:47Speaker 1: endeavored to show how difficult the fulfillment of the commandment is.
- 3:52Speaker 1: Thus he hoped both to parry conviction and to vindicate
- 3:56Speaker 1: himself in the eyes of the people. The Saviour's words
- 3:59Speaker 1: had shown them. His question was needless, since he was
- 4:02Speaker 1: able to answer it himself. Yet he put another question, saying,
- 4:06Speaker 1: who is my neighbor? Again? Christ refused to be drawn
- 4:11Speaker 1: into controversy. He answered the question by relating an incident,
- 4:15Speaker 1: the memory of which was fresh in the minds of
- 4:17Speaker 1: his hearers. A certain man, he said, went down from
- 4:23Speaker 1: Jerusalem to Jericho and fell among thieves, which stripped him
- 4:27Speaker 1: of his raiment and wounded him and departed, leaving him
- 4:30Speaker 1: half dead. In journeying from Jerusalem to Jericho, the traveler
- 4:34Speaker 1: had to pass through a portion of the wilderness of Judea.
- 4:38Speaker 1: The road led down a wild rocky ravine, which was
- 4:41Speaker 1: infested with robbers and was often the scene of violence.
- 4:45Speaker 1: It was here that the traveler was attacked, stripped of
- 4:48Speaker 1: all that was valuable, and left half dead by the
- 4:51Speaker 1: wayside as he lay. Thus, a priest came that way.
- 4:55Speaker 1: He saw the man lying wounded and bruised, weltering in
- 4:58Speaker 1: his own blood, but he he left him without rendering
- 5:01Speaker 1: any assistance. He passed by on the other side. Then
- 5:05Speaker 1: a levit appeared, curious to know what had happened. He
- 5:08Speaker 1: stopped and looked at the sufferer. He was convicted of
- 5:11Speaker 1: what he ought to do, but it was not an
- 5:13Speaker 1: agreeable duty. He wished that he had not come that way,
- 5:17Speaker 1: so that he would not have seen the wounded man.
- 5:19Speaker 1: He persuaded himself that the case was no concern of his,
- 5:22Speaker 1: and he too passed by on the other side. But
- 5:25Speaker 1: a Samaritan traveling the same road saw the sufferer, and
- 5:29Speaker 1: he did the work that the others had refused to do.
- 5:32Speaker 1: With gentleness and kindness. He ministered to the wounded man.
- 5:36Speaker 1: When he saw him, he had compassion on him and
- 5:39Speaker 1: went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring in
- 5:42Speaker 1: oil and wine, and set him on his own beasts,
- 5:45Speaker 1: and brought him to an inn and took care of him.
- 5:48Speaker 1: And on the morrow, when he departed, he took out
- 5:50Speaker 1: two pence and gave them to the host, and said
- 5:53Speaker 1: to him, take care of him, and whatsoever thou spendest more,
- 5:56Speaker 1: when I come again, I will repay thee. The priest
- 6:00Speaker 1: and the Levite both professed piety, but the Samaritan showed
- 6:04Speaker 1: that he was truly converted. It was no more agreeable
- 6:07Speaker 1: for him to do the work than for the priest
- 6:09Speaker 1: and the Levite. But in spirit and works he proved
- 6:12Speaker 1: himself to be in harmony with God. In giving this lesson,
- 6:16Speaker 1: Christ presented the principles of the law in a direct,
- 6:19Speaker 1: forcible way, showing his hearers that they had neglected to
- 6:23Speaker 1: carry out these principles. His words were so definite and
- 6:26Speaker 1: pointed that the listeners could find no opportunity to Cavil,
- 6:30Speaker 1: the lawyer, found in the lesson nothing that he could criticize.
- 6:34Speaker 1: His prejudice in regard to Christ was removed, but he
- 6:37Speaker 1: had not overcome his national dislike to sufficiently give credit
- 6:41Speaker 1: to the Samaritan by name. When Christ asked which now
- 6:44Speaker 1: of these three thinkest thou was neighbor, unto him that
- 6:48Speaker 1: fell among the thieves. He answered, he that showed mercy
- 6:51Speaker 1: on him. Then Jesus said, unto him, go and do
- 6:55Speaker 1: thou likewise show the same tender kindness to those in need.
- 6:59Speaker 1: Thus you will give evidence that you keep the whole law.
- 7:02Speaker 1: The great difference between the Jews and the Samaritans was
- 7:05Speaker 1: a difference in religious belief, a question as to what
- 7:09Speaker 1: constitutes true worship. The Pharisees would say nothing good of
- 7:13Speaker 1: the Samaritans, but poured their bitterest curses on them. So
- 7:17Speaker 1: strong was the antipathy between the Jews and the Samaritans
- 7:20Speaker 1: that to the Samaritan woman it seemed a strange thing
- 7:24Speaker 1: for Christ to ask her for a drink? How is it?
- 7:27Speaker 1: She said, that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me,
- 7:32Speaker 1: which am a woman of Samaria For adds the evangelist,
- 7:36Speaker 1: the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans. And when
- 7:39Speaker 1: the Jews were so filled with murderous hatred against Christ
- 7:43Speaker 1: that they rose up in the temple to stone him,
- 7:46Speaker 1: they could find no better words by which to express
- 7:49Speaker 1: their hatred. Then say we not well that thou art
- 7:52Speaker 1: a Samaritan and hast the devil. Yet the priests and
- 7:55Speaker 1: the Levite neglected the very work the Lord had enjoined
- 8:00Speaker 1: on them, leaving a hated and despised Samaritan to minister
- 8:03Speaker 1: to one of their own countrymen. The Samaritan had fulfilled
- 8:07Speaker 1: the command thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself, thus
- 8:12Speaker 1: showing that he was more righteous than those by whom
- 8:15Speaker 1: he was denounced, risking his own life, he had treated
- 8:18Speaker 1: the wounded man as his brother. The Samaritan represents Christ,
- 8:24Speaker 1: our savior. Manifested for us a love that the love
- 8:27Speaker 1: of man can never equal. When we were bruised in dying,
- 8:31Speaker 1: he had pity on us. He did not pass by
- 8:34Speaker 1: on the other side and leave us helpless and hopeless
- 8:37Speaker 1: to perish. He did not remain in his holy, happy home,
- 8:41Speaker 1: where he was beloved by all the heavenly host. He
- 8:44Speaker 1: beheld our sore need. He undertook our case and identified
- 8:49Speaker 1: his interests with those of humanity. He died to save
- 8:54Speaker 1: his enemies. He prayed for his murderers. Pointing to his
- 8:58Speaker 1: own example, he says to his followers these things, I
- 9:02Speaker 1: command you, that ye love one another as I have
- 9:05Speaker 1: loved you, that ye also love one another the priest
- 9:10Speaker 1: and the levite had been for worship to the temple,
- 9:13Speaker 1: whose service was appointed by God himself. To participate in
- 9:17Speaker 1: that service was a great and exalted privilege, and the
- 9:21Speaker 1: priest and levite felt that, having thus been honored, it
- 9:24Speaker 1: was beneath them to minister to an unknown sufferer by
- 9:27Speaker 1: the wayside. Thus they neglected the special opportunity which God
- 9:31Speaker 1: had offered them as his agents, to bless a fellow
- 9:34Speaker 1: human being. Many today are making a similar mistake. They
- 9:39Speaker 1: separate their duties into two distinct classes. The one class
- 9:43Speaker 1: is made up of great things, to be regulated by
- 9:45Speaker 1: the law of God. The other class is made up
- 9:48Speaker 1: of so called little things, in which the command thou
- 9:51Speaker 1: shalt love thy neighbor as thyself is ignored. This sphere
- 9:56Speaker 1: of work is left to caprice, subject to inclination or
- 9:59Speaker 1: in m Thus the character is marred and the religion
- 10:03Speaker 1: of Christ misrepresented. There are those who would think it
- 10:07Speaker 1: lowering to their dignity to minister to suffering humanity. Many
- 10:11Speaker 1: look with indifference and contempt upon those who have laid
- 10:15Speaker 1: the temple of the Soul in ruins. Others neglect the
- 10:18Speaker 1: poor from a different motive. They are working as they
- 10:21Speaker 1: believe in the cause of Christ, seeking to build up
- 10:24Speaker 1: some worthy enterprise. They feel that they are doing a
- 10:28Speaker 1: great work, and they cannot stop to notice the wants
- 10:31Speaker 1: of the needy and distressed. In advancing their supposedly great work,
- 10:35Speaker 1: they may even oppress the poor. They may place them
- 10:38Speaker 1: in hard and trying circumstances, deprive them of their rights,
- 10:43Speaker 1: or neglect their needs. Yet they feel that all this
- 10:46Speaker 1: is justifiable because they are, as they think, advancing the
- 10:50Speaker 1: cause of Christ. Many will allow a brother or a
- 10:53Speaker 1: neighbor to struggle unaided under adverse circumstances because they profess
- 10:59Speaker 1: to be Christians. He may be led to think that,
- 11:01Speaker 1: in their cold selfishness, they are representing Christ. Because the
- 11:05Speaker 1: Lord's professed servants are not in cooperation with him, the
- 11:09Speaker 1: love of God, which should flow forth from them, is
- 11:12Speaker 1: in great degree cut off from their fellow men, and
- 11:15Speaker 1: a large revenue of praise and thanksgiving from human hearts
- 11:20Speaker 1: and human lips is prevented from flowing back to God.
- 11:23Speaker 1: He is robbed of the glory due his holy name.
- 11:26Speaker 1: He is robbed of the souls for whom Christ died,
- 11:29Speaker 1: souls whom he longs to bring into his Kingdom to
- 11:33Speaker 1: dwell in His presence through endless ages. Divine truth exerts
- 11:37Speaker 1: little influence upon the world when it should exert much
- 11:40Speaker 1: influence through our practice. The mere profession of religion abounds,
- 11:45Speaker 1: but it has little weight. We may claim to be
- 11:47Speaker 1: followers of Christ, we may claim to believe every truth
- 11:51Speaker 1: in the Word of God, but this will do our
- 11:54Speaker 1: neighbor no good unless our belief is carried into our
- 11:57Speaker 1: daily life. Our profession may be as high eye as heaven,
- 12:00Speaker 1: but it will save neither ourselves nor our fellow men.
- 12:04Speaker 1: Unless we are Christians. A right example will do more
- 12:07Speaker 1: to benefit the world than all our profession. By no
- 12:11Speaker 1: selfish practices can the cause of Christ be served. His
- 12:15Speaker 1: cause is the cause of the oppressed and the poor.
- 12:19Speaker 1: In the hearts of his professed followers, there is need
- 12:22Speaker 1: of the tender sympathy of Christ, a deeper love for
- 12:25Speaker 1: those whom He has so valued as to give his
- 12:28Speaker 1: own life for those salvation. These souls are precious, infinitely
- 12:33Speaker 1: more precious than any other offering we can bring to
- 12:36Speaker 1: God to bend every energy towards some apparently great work.
- 12:41Speaker 1: While we neglect the needy or turn the stranger from
- 12:44Speaker 1: his right is not a service that will meet his approval.
- 12:47Speaker 1: The sanctification of the soul by the working of the
- 12:50Speaker 1: Holy Spirit is the implanting of Christ's nature in humanity.
- 12:54Speaker 1: Gospel religion is Christ in the life, a living, active principle.
- 12:58Speaker 1: It is the grace of Christ, Christ revealed in character
- 13:01Speaker 1: and wrought out in good works. The principles of the
- 13:04Speaker 1: Gospel cannot be disconnected from any department of practical life.
- 13:08Speaker 1: Every line of Christian experience and labor is to be
- 13:11Speaker 1: a representation of the life of Christ. Love is the
- 13:15Speaker 1: basis for Godliness, whatever the profession. No man has pure
- 13:19Speaker 1: love to God unless he has unselfish love for his brother.
- 13:23Speaker 1: But we can never come into possession of the Spirit
- 13:26Speaker 1: by trying to love others. What is needed is the
- 13:29Speaker 1: love of Christ and the heart. When self is merged
- 13:32Speaker 1: in Christ, love springs forth spontaneously. The completeness of Christian
- 13:37Speaker 1: character is attained when the impulse to help and bless
- 13:41Speaker 1: others springs constantly from within, When the sunshine of Heaven
- 13:45Speaker 1: fills the heart and is revealed in the countenance. It
- 13:48Speaker 1: is not possible for the heart in which Christ abides
- 13:51Speaker 1: to be destitute of love. If we love God. Because
- 13:55Speaker 1: He first loved us. We shall love all for whom
- 13:58Speaker 1: Christ died. Not come in touch with divinity without coming
- 14:03Speaker 1: in touch with humanity. For in him who sits upon
- 14:07Speaker 1: the throne of the universe, divinity and humanity are combined.
- 14:11Speaker 1: Connected with Christ, we are connected with our fellow men
- 14:15Speaker 1: by the golden links of the chain of love. Then
- 14:18Speaker 1: the pity and compassion of Christ will be manifest in
- 14:21Speaker 1: our life. We shall not wait to have the needy
- 14:24Speaker 1: and unfortunate brought to us. We shall not need to
- 14:27Speaker 1: be entreated to feel for the woes of others. It
- 14:31Speaker 1: will be as natural for us to minister to the
- 14:33Speaker 1: needy and suffering as it was for Christ to go
- 14:36Speaker 1: about doing good. Wherever there is an impulse of love
- 14:40Speaker 1: and sympathy, wherever the heart reaches out to bless and
- 14:44Speaker 1: uplift others, there is reveal the working of God's Holy Spirit.
- 14:48Speaker 1: In the depths of Heathenism, men who have had no
- 14:52Speaker 1: knowledge of the written law of God, who have never
- 14:54Speaker 1: heard the name of Christ, have been kind to His servants,
- 14:58Speaker 1: protecting them at the risk of them their own lives.
- 15:01Speaker 1: Their acts show the working of a divine power. The
- 15:04Speaker 1: Holy Spirit is implanted the grace of Christ in the
- 15:07Speaker 1: heart of the savage, quickening his sympathies contrary to his nature,
- 15:11Speaker 1: contrary to his education. The light which lighteth every man
- 15:15Speaker 1: that cometh into the world is shining in his soul,
- 15:19Speaker 1: and this light, if heated, will guide his feet to
- 15:23Speaker 1: the Kingdom of God. The glory of Heaven is lifting
- 15:26Speaker 1: up the fallen, comforting the distress. And wherever Christ abides
- 15:30Speaker 1: in human hearts, he will be revealed in the same way.
- 15:33Speaker 1: Wherever it acts, the religion of Christ will bless where
- 15:37Speaker 1: it works. There is brightness. No distinction on account of nationality, race,
- 15:42Speaker 1: or caste is recognized by God. He is the maker
- 15:47Speaker 1: of all mankind. All men are of one family by creation,
- 15:51Speaker 1: and all are one through redemption. Christ came to demolish
- 15:56Speaker 1: every wall of partition, to throw open every compartment of
- 16:00Speaker 1: the Temple, that every soul may have free access to God.
- 16:04Speaker 1: His love is so broad and deep, so full, that
- 16:08Speaker 1: it penetrates everywhere. It lifts out of Satan's circle, the
- 16:12Speaker 1: poor souls who have been deluded by His deceptions. It
- 16:16Speaker 1: places them within reach of the throne of God, the
- 16:19Speaker 1: throne encircled by the rainbow of promise. In Christ, there
- 16:23Speaker 1: is neither Jew nor Greek, bond or free. All are
- 16:27Speaker 1: brought nigh by His precious blood. Whatever the difference in
- 16:31Speaker 1: religious belief, a call from suffering humanity must be heard
- 16:35Speaker 1: and answered. Where bitterness of feeling exists because of difference
- 16:39Speaker 1: in religion, much good may be done by personal service.
- 16:43Speaker 1: Loving ministry will break down prejudice and win souls to God.
- 16:47Speaker 1: We should anticipate the sorrows and difficulties, the troubles of others.
- 16:51Speaker 1: We should enter into the joys and cares of both
- 16:55Speaker 1: high and low. Rich and poor freely have received. Christ says,
- 17:00Speaker 1: freely give. All around us are poor, tried souls that
- 17:04Speaker 1: need sympathizing words and helpful deeds. There are widows who
- 17:08Speaker 1: need sympathy and assistance. There are orphans whom Christ has
- 17:12Speaker 1: bidden his followers receive as a trust from God. Too
- 17:15Speaker 1: often these are passed by with neglect. They may be ragged, uncouth,
- 17:21Speaker 1: and seemingly in every way unattractive. Yet they are God's property.
- 17:26Speaker 1: They have been bought with a price, and they are
- 17:29Speaker 1: as precious in His sight as we are. They are
- 17:32Speaker 1: members of God's great household, and Christians as his stewards
- 17:36Speaker 1: are responsible for them their souls, He says, will I
- 17:40Speaker 1: require at thy hand. Sin is the greatest of all evils,
- 17:44Speaker 1: and it is ours to pity and help the sinner.
- 17:47Speaker 1: But not all can be reached in the same way.
- 17:50Speaker 1: There are many who hide their soul hunger. These would
- 17:53Speaker 1: be greatly helped by a tender word or a kind remembrance.
- 17:56Speaker 1: There are others who are in their greatest need, yet
- 18:00Speaker 1: they know it not, They do not realize the terrible
- 18:03Speaker 1: destitution of the soul. Multitudes are so sunken in sin
- 18:08Speaker 1: that they have lost the sense of eternal realities, lost
- 18:11Speaker 1: the similitude of God, and they hardly know whether they
- 18:14Speaker 1: have souls to be saved or not. They have neither
- 18:18Speaker 1: faith in God nor confidence in man. Many of these
- 18:21Speaker 1: can be reached only through acts of disinterested kindness. Their
- 18:25Speaker 1: physical wants must first be cared for. They must be fed, cleansed,
- 18:30Speaker 1: and decently clothed. As they see the evidence of your
- 18:33Speaker 1: unselfish love, it will be easier for them to believe
- 18:36Speaker 1: in the love of Christ. There are many who err,
- 18:39Speaker 1: and who feel their shame and their folly. They look
- 18:43Speaker 1: upon their mistakes and errors, and they are driven almost
- 18:47Speaker 1: to desperation. These souls we are not to neglect. When
- 18:50Speaker 1: one has to swim against the stream, there is all
- 18:54Speaker 1: the force of the current driving him back. Let a
- 18:56Speaker 1: helping hand then be held out to him, as was
- 18:59Speaker 1: the elder brother's hand to the sinking Peter. Speak to
- 19:03Speaker 1: him hopeful words, words that will establish confidence and awaken love.
- 19:08Speaker 1: Thy brother, sick in spirit, needs thee as thou thyself
- 19:12Speaker 1: has needed a brother's love. He needs the experience of
- 19:16Speaker 1: one who has been as weak as he, one who
- 19:19Speaker 1: can sympathize with him and help him. The knowledge of
- 19:22Speaker 1: our own weakness should help us to help another in
- 19:25Speaker 1: his bitter need. Never should we pass by one suffering
- 19:29Speaker 1: soul without seeking to impart to him the comfort wherewith
- 19:32Speaker 1: we are comforted of God. It is fellowship with Christ,
- 19:37Speaker 1: personal contact with a living Savior, that enables the mind
- 19:40Speaker 1: and heart and soul to triumph over the lower nature.
- 19:43Speaker 1: Tell the wanderer of the almighty hand that will hold
- 19:46Speaker 1: him up of an infinite humanity in Christ that pities him.
- 19:50Speaker 1: It is not enough for him to believe in law
- 19:53Speaker 1: and force things that have no pity, and never hear
- 19:56Speaker 1: the cry for help. He needs to clasp a hand
- 20:00Speaker 1: it is warm to trust in a heart full of tenderness.
- 20:03Speaker 1: Keep his mind stayed upon the thought of a divine
- 20:06Speaker 1: presence ever beside him, ever looking upon him with pitying love.
- 20:11Speaker 1: Bid him think of the father's heart that ever grieves
- 20:14Speaker 1: over sin, of a father's hand stretched out, still, of
- 20:19Speaker 1: a father's voice saying, let him take hold of my strength,
- 20:23Speaker 1: that he may make peace with me, and he shall
- 20:26Speaker 1: make peace. As you engage in this work, you have
- 20:29Speaker 1: companions unseen by human eyes. Angels of heaven were beside
- 20:33Speaker 1: the Samaritan who cared for the wounded stranger. Angels from
- 20:37Speaker 1: the heavenly courts stand by all who do God's service
- 20:40Speaker 1: in ministering to their fellow men. And you have the
- 20:42Speaker 1: co operation of Christ himself. He is the restorer, and
- 20:47Speaker 1: as you work under his supervision, you will see great results.
- 20:51Speaker 1: Upon your faithfulness in this work, not only the well
- 20:54Speaker 1: being of others, but your own eternal destiny depends. Christ
- 20:59Speaker 1: is seeking to uplift all who have been lifted to
- 21:02Speaker 1: companionship with himself, that we may be one with Him
- 21:05Speaker 1: as He is one with the Father. He permits us
- 21:08Speaker 1: to come in contact with suffering and calamity in order
- 21:11Speaker 1: to call us out of our selfishness. He seeks to
- 21:14Speaker 1: develop in us the attributes of his character, compassion, tenderness,
- 21:19Speaker 1: and love. By accepting this work of ministry, we place
- 21:22Speaker 1: ourselves in his school to be fitted for the courts
- 21:25Speaker 1: of God. By rejecting it, we reject his instruction and
- 21:29Speaker 1: choose eternal separation from his presence. If thou wilt keep
- 21:33Speaker 1: my charge, the Lord declares, I will give thee places
- 21:37Speaker 1: to walk among these that stand by, even among the
- 21:41Speaker 1: angels that surround his throne. By cooperating with heavenly beings
- 21:45Speaker 1: in their work on earth, we are preparing for their
- 21:48Speaker 1: companionship in heaven, ministering spirits sent forth to minister for
- 21:52Speaker 1: them who shall be heirs of salvation. Angels in heaven
- 21:57Speaker 1: will welcome those who on earth have lived no, not
- 22:00Speaker 1: to be ministered unto, but to minister. In this blessed companionship.
- 22:05Speaker 1: We shall learn to our eternal joy all that is
- 22:09Speaker 1: wrapped up in the question who is my neighbor? End
- 22:13Speaker 1: of Chapter twenty eight.
