- 0:00Speaker 1: On October 3rd, 1953, ABC carried the 53rd episode of
- 0:05Speaker 1: Space Patrol, Return to Planet X. The continuing story finds
- 0:11Speaker 1: Commander Buzz Corey and Cadet Happy moving on from a
- 0:14Speaker 1: skirmish in the tunnels beneath Prince Baccarati's missile base on
- 0:19Speaker 1: Jupiter's fourth moon. Their pursuit of Baccarati leads away from
- 0:23Speaker 1: the Jovian outpost and toward the remote Planet X. Ed
- 0:27Speaker 1: Kemmer and Lynn Osborne had a cast that includes Bella Kovach,
- 0:32Speaker 1: Ken Mayer, Virginia Hewitt, and Norman Jolly. Lou Houston received
- 0:37Speaker 1: the original story credit. From the Ralston Serials series, we
- 0:42Speaker 1: now take you back to the original broadcast.
- 0:45Speaker 2: Wheat Chex, Rice Chex, and good, hot Ralston present Space Patrol!
- 0:50Speaker 3: Space Patrol!
- 0:54Speaker 2: High adventure in the wild, vast riches of space. Missions
- 0:57Speaker 2: of daring in the name of interplanetary justice. Travel into
- 1:01Speaker 2: the future with Buzz Corey, Commander-in-Chief of the Space Patrol.
- 1:10Speaker 2: And now, today's exciting Space Patrol adventure, Return to Planet X.
- 1:22Speaker 3: A blasted heap of rubble.
- 1:24Speaker 2: That's all that remains of the camouflaged launching base on
- 1:26Speaker 2: Jupiter Moon No. 4, aiming point from which Prince Fakirati
- 1:31Speaker 2: planned to hurl guided missiles across half a million miles
- 1:33Speaker 2: of space to destroy two key cities on the planet Jupiter.
- 1:37Speaker 2: Last week, we learned how Commander Corey and Cadet Happy
- 1:40Speaker 2: arrived just in time to blast the missile chutes and
- 1:43Speaker 2: control blockhouse to bits with a space torpedo from the
- 1:46Speaker 2: Terra V.
- 1:47Speaker 4: It's now a few moments later. Buzz and Happy have
- 1:49Speaker 4: landed on moon.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Number four, while the last grains of dust from the
- 1:53Speaker 2: explosion are falling swiftly to the surface of the airless satellite.
- 1:56Speaker 2: Wearing spacesuits and carrying portable disintegrators, they crushly approach the
- 2:01Speaker 2: shattered structure.
- 2:05Speaker 5: Take it easy, Hap.
- 2:06Speaker 6: Don't go charging into that mess.
- 2:07Speaker 3: Okay, Commander.
- 2:09Speaker 2: But you don't think anybody could still be alive in
- 2:10Speaker 2: that wreckage? I think we've learned not to take anything
- 2:12Speaker 2: for granted where Baccarati is concerned. Whoever was in that
- 2:15Speaker 2: control station may have been wearing a spacesuit.
- 2:17Speaker 6: You're right, sir.
- 2:18Speaker 2: This looks like a chunk of control panel, huh? Let's
- 2:20Speaker 2: get to work with the disintegrators.
- 2:22Speaker 6: Yes, sir. Remember, if there's someone alive under this masonry,
- 2:25Speaker 6: we want to.
- 2:26Speaker 2: Keep them that way. So don't blast too deep with
- 2:28Speaker 2: the disintegrator. Just reduce the chunks of concrete to a
- 2:30Speaker 2: size we can lift.
- 2:32Speaker 6: Yes, sir. Nothing under that chunk. Try that one over there.
- 2:54Speaker 2: Many feet below the surface of the moon, right under
- 2:56Speaker 2: where Buzz and Happy are searching for survivors.
- 2:59Speaker 3: Prince Baccarati and Dr.
- 3:01Speaker 2: Malingo huddle in the corner of an underground room.
- 3:06Speaker 7: What was that?
- 3:07Speaker 8: I don't know, Your Highness.
- 3:09Speaker 7: Perhaps they have found a passage leading down to this
- 3:11Speaker 7: escape tunnel.
- 3:12Speaker 6: Go to the connecting door and investigate.
- 3:15Speaker 8: Very well, Your Highness.
- 3:20Speaker 7: Well, can you see through the peephole?
- 3:23Speaker 3: Well, I know your house.
- 3:25Speaker 7: This floor was almost entirely covered with debris.
- 3:27Speaker 8: I think a large rock just dropped there.
- 3:30Speaker 3: Well, that's what I thought had happened.
- 3:33Speaker 2: Well, Hamish, didn't you be advised not to get out
- 3:35Speaker 2: of the other end of the passage to the spaceship?
- 3:37Speaker 3: There is no hurry.
- 3:38Speaker 7: We can blast off until we're sure there is no
- 3:40Speaker 7: space patrol ship watching this part of the moon. However,
- 3:44Speaker 7: we can work our way down to the other center
- 3:45Speaker 7: of the planet.
- 3:54Speaker 6: Hold it, Happy. Cut it off. What is it, Commander?
- 3:58Speaker 1: Look at this.
- 3:59Speaker 6: I found it near a piece of the control panel.
- 4:02Speaker 6: An electrode pit? Yes, a path of sensitized plastic with
- 4:06Speaker 6: some computation on it. Robots build electrode pits. Somebody once did.
- 4:11Speaker 6: The pen has a emblem on it.
- 4:12Speaker 2: Black Falcon.
- 4:13Speaker 6: Prince Baccarati. Cap, look at the writing on this path.
- 4:18Speaker 6: He blew up this launching station just in time.
- 4:20Speaker 2: At 1827 Universal Star Time, Baccarati was going to launch
- 4:24Speaker 2: a guided missile to blow up Kepler City, Jupiter.
- 4:26Speaker 6: Wow, then he must have been ready to fire it
- 4:28Speaker 6: just as we zoomed in. The question now is, what
- 4:31Speaker 6: happened to Baccarati? We disintegrated enough of the wreckage to
- 4:34Speaker 6: know he isn't here.
- 4:35Speaker 2: If he had escaped across the surface in a spacesuit,
- 4:37Speaker 2: we surely would have spotted him. Yeah, and that'd be
- 4:39Speaker 2: just one alternative. There must have been a trap door
- 4:42Speaker 2: under the floor of the old box house. Sort of
- 4:45Speaker 2: double protection.
- 4:46Speaker 3: A cellar.
- 4:46Speaker 6: Probably more than that.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Very likely there's an underground hangar that can be reached
- 4:50Speaker 2: from this blockhouse to the tunnel.
- 4:51Speaker 6: Then he may already be ready to blast off the moon.
- 4:54Speaker 2: Have you get back to work with the disintegrator and
- 4:56Speaker 2: look for the entrance to the escape tunnel.
- 4:58Speaker 6: I'll go back to the ship and call for a
- 4:59Speaker 6: patrol squadron to watch the pretty ship blast.
- 5:09Speaker 2: Off.
- 5:10Speaker 3: The End.
- 5:15Speaker 6: Hap, how you doing? I think I found it, Commander.
- 5:18Speaker 7: Let's have a look.
- 5:21Speaker 2: You're right.
- 5:21Speaker 6: That's the metal framework of a trapdoor.
- 5:24Speaker 2: Another short blast will clear the rest of the rubble away, sir.
- 5:34Speaker 6: Yes, there's a stairway. Bring your disintegrator, Hap. We may
- 5:37Speaker 6: need it down there. All right, Commander. There's a metal door, Hap.
- 5:48Speaker 6: Let's see if we can open it. An airlock. Get
- 5:54Speaker 6: in and close the door, Hap. Let's check these indicators.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Here's a gauge for passage air pressure. 0.8 atmosphere. Then
- 6:08Speaker 2: Baccarati wouldn't need a space suit inside the tunnel.
- 6:11Speaker 3: Right.
- 6:11Speaker 6: We can open our space plates after we open the
- 6:13Speaker 6: inner door.
- 6:21Speaker 3: Better close the door behind us now.
- 6:26Speaker 8: Wow, what a tunnel.
- 6:27Speaker 3: I wonder how far it goes.
- 6:28Speaker 4: Possibly a couple of miles, perhaps more.
- 6:31Speaker 3: Let's get going. We have quite a hike ahead of us.
- 6:39Speaker 7: Langrow, what's the matter with you? Stop pacing back and forth.
- 6:42Speaker 8: I'm sorry, I feel uneasy.
- 6:44Speaker 7: What about?
- 6:44Speaker 8: I suppose it's been impressive this time.
- 6:48Speaker 7: What do you mean impressive? In a few minutes, we'll
- 6:50Speaker 7: be in a spaceship on our way back to Planet X.
- 6:53Speaker 8: Of course, your Majesty.
- 6:55Speaker 2: But suppose the space patrol does discover the hangar entrance
- 6:58Speaker 2: to the tunnel.
- 6:59Speaker 7: If they don't... Ah, stop manufacturing trouble. The hangar entrance
- 7:02Speaker 7: is well camouflaged. The thing for us to do is
- 7:05Speaker 7: plan what we're going to do when we get back
- 7:07Speaker 7: to Planet X. Our number one project, of course, will
- 7:11Speaker 7: be to get rid of Commander Corey.
- 7:13Speaker 8: It shall receive my entire attention, Your Majesty.
- 7:16Speaker 2: Good.
- 7:17Speaker 7: That will leave me free to solve our difficulties with
- 7:20Speaker 7: our captive natives in the Arctic region of Planet X.
- 7:23Speaker 2: That has been worrying me too. When we last left
- 7:26Speaker 2: Planet X, they were on the verge of revolt. We
- 7:28Speaker 2: simply must keep those Endurium mines in full production. Already
- 7:32Speaker 2: I'm weeks behind in my timetable of conquest. There must
- 7:36Speaker 2: be some way to terrify those natives into more effort.
- 7:39Speaker 2: It is unfortunate, Your Highness, that some of your own men,
- 7:42Speaker 2: your guards and supervisors, are not cooperating as they should. Listen.
- 7:47Speaker 7: What's that?
- 7:48Speaker 8: Someone's in the tunnel. They've discovered our spaceship.
- 7:51Speaker 2: Wait. Wait.
- 7:52Speaker 4: Listen.
- 7:55Speaker 7: Take a look through the door of this compartment. Toward
- 7:57Speaker 7: the bloodhound in the tunnel.
- 8:04Speaker 3: See anything?
- 8:05Speaker 2: It's very thin, I think, sir. I bet I saw
- 8:09Speaker 2: something shattered.
- 8:10Speaker 7: Get away from the people.
- 8:12Speaker 3: There is somebody in the tunnel. Hit the ground half.
- 8:41Speaker 8: It's a blast now.
- 8:42Speaker 3: Baccarat, he sees us.
- 8:44Speaker 2: I'm going to get this thing over before he fires again.
- 8:47Speaker 4: I dropped it when I hit the floor, sir. It's
- 8:49Speaker 4: out of reach.
- 8:49Speaker 3: I'll get it.
- 8:51Speaker 7: Get down, Hap. I'm touching now, Corey. All I got
- 8:54Speaker 7: to do is keep blasting away till I hit you.
- 9:03Speaker 2: We'll return to Space Patrol in.
- 9:05Speaker 4: Just a moment.
- 9:22Speaker 2: And now, gang, the most exciting news ever revealed on
- 9:25Speaker 2: Space Patrol. News about a gigantic contest that's going to
- 9:29Speaker 2: shake this planet like an earthquake. News about the biggest
- 9:36Speaker 2: prize ever given away to any boy or girl. A
- 9:39Speaker 2: prize that's going to rock you like a thundering explosion.
- 9:46Speaker 2: And that prize is Commander Corey's.
- 9:48Speaker 7: Own rocket ship.
- 9:50Speaker 2: Yes, Space Patrollers, Commander Corey is actually giving away his
- 9:53Speaker 2: great silver and scarlet spaceship, Terra 4.
- 9:56Speaker 4: Giving it away to some lucky boy or girl.
- 9:59Speaker 3: Now, just imagine.
- 10:00Speaker 4: A huge 10,000 pound all metal.
- 10:02Speaker 2: Spaceship, 35 feet long, almost as big as a house.
- 10:06Speaker 2: And that's exactly what it is, a clubhouse on wheels.
- 10:09Speaker 2: Now just think, a rolling rocket clubhouse, especially equipped with lights,
- 10:13Speaker 2: real sleeping bunts, space lockers, even a cooking stove, and
- 10:17Speaker 2: a giant truck to pull it.
- 10:18Speaker 4: Take you and your pals anywhere you want to go.
- 10:20Speaker 2: Can't you just see yourself zooming down the road toward
- 10:23Speaker 2: high adventure, headed out camping, hiking, on sightseeing trips aboard
- 10:27Speaker 2: your rocket clubhouse on wheels?
- 10:29Speaker 7: And here's something else you want to see, dollar bills.
- 10:31Speaker 2: $ 1, 500 bills. $ 1, 500 that.
- 10:37Speaker 4: Comes as first prize.
- 10:38Speaker 7: Along with a rocket clubhouse.
- 10:39Speaker 3: That's right.
- 10:40Speaker 7: The first prize in this terrific contest is.
- 10:42Speaker 2: A gigantic rocket clubhouse and a real truck.
- 10:46Speaker 7: And $ 1, 500.
- 10:47Speaker 2: Now that's what one of you space patrollers will win.
- 10:53Speaker 2: Here comes Carol with something that 750 of you are
- 10:56Speaker 2: going to win second prize. 750 Schwinn Varsity Bicycles.
- 11:01Speaker 7: Terrific, bike space procureurs. Schwinn, America's best. With three-speed dealership
- 11:07Speaker 7: and two-wheel handles.
- 11:08Speaker 2: And third prize, a thousand third prizes, a thousand pieces
- 11:12Speaker 2: of regulation space patrol equipment.
- 11:14Speaker 4: 250 autosonic rifles.
- 11:15Speaker 2: 250 outer space helmets.
- 11:17Speaker 3: 250 emergency kits.
- 11:17Speaker 7: And 250 beautiful space patrol wristwatches.
- 11:25Speaker 2: Now, Space Patrollers, it takes only one word to win
- 11:28Speaker 2: Buzz Corey's rocket ship or a Schwinn bike or one
- 11:31Speaker 2: of the thousand other swell prizes. Now, sit tight, because
- 11:34Speaker 2: right after today's Space Patrol adventure, I'm going to tell
- 11:37Speaker 2: you about the one word that can bring you the
- 11:41Speaker 2: great rocket.
- 11:41Speaker 7: Clubhouse rolling up to your home.
- 11:50Speaker 2: And now, back to our Space Patrol adventure, Return to
- 11:53Speaker 2: Planet X. Buzz and Happy are in a tunnel on
- 11:56Speaker 2: the fourth moon of Jupiter trying to overtake Prince Baccarati
- 11:59Speaker 2: before he can escape from Planet X.
- 12:02Speaker 3: Baccarati and Dr.
- 12:03Speaker 2: Malingo have discovered the two space patrolmen. Through a compartment
- 12:06Speaker 2: door in the tunnel, Baccarati is firing into a dim
- 12:09Speaker 2: passageway with a blast gun. Lying flat on the floor
- 12:12Speaker 2: near a stack of crates, Buzz and Happy so far
- 12:14Speaker 2: have not been injured.
- 12:18Speaker 3: Well, that was close, Commander.
- 12:19Speaker 4: Get a show of the next one. Roll to the
- 12:21Speaker 4: right behind those crates.
- 12:22Speaker 2: Hurry up. And if I only hadn't dropped that disintegrator,
- 12:28Speaker 2: probably wouldn't hit Baccarati from this distance anyway.
- 12:31Speaker 6: Hurry!
- 12:32Speaker 3: Now you!
- 12:33Speaker 7: I can't see you now, so you're probably behind a
- 12:36Speaker 7: stack of crates. But that's not going to protect you.
- 12:40Speaker 2: I'm lucky I had this spacesuit helmet on, sir. That
- 12:45Speaker 2: last shot clipped a chunk of crate right next to
- 12:47Speaker 2: my head. Unless we think it's something Baccarati can just
- 12:49Speaker 2: take his time and blast these crates.
- 12:50Speaker 3: Away, but he gets us.
- 12:52Speaker 8: If we were only a little closer to him, they
- 12:53Speaker 8: could rush him.
- 12:55Speaker 7: Maybe we could goad him into coming toward us.
- 12:57Speaker 3: No, Baccarat.
- 12:57Speaker 4: It doesn't take unnecessary chances.
- 12:59Speaker 3: Here, this might do it.
- 13:01Speaker 8: This big metal gun.
- 13:02Speaker 7: Rocket fuel.
- 13:02Speaker 8: Help me drag it out.
- 13:03Speaker 3: Into the passage.
- 13:04Speaker 7: But, sir, the whole tower will blow up.
- 13:06Speaker 4: Remember now, a full container of fuel is very heavy.
- 13:09Speaker 3: Give me a hand.
- 13:10Speaker 7: Yes, sir. But, sir, this isn't... Quiet. Better hold your fire, Baccaratty. Oh,
- 13:21Speaker 7: you want to surrender, I suppose. No, I'm just warning you.
- 13:25Speaker 2: We're pushing a drum of rocket fuel out into the tunnel.
- 13:28Speaker 7: Hit that with your blast gun.
- 13:29Speaker 2: And you'll be shot through this tunnel like a torpedo
- 13:31Speaker 2: through a space cannon.
- 13:33Speaker 6: You're bluffing.
- 13:35Speaker 2: You'd be killed too. You're determined to finish us off anyway.
- 13:38Speaker 2: Come on, Happy, push it out. Roll it toward Baccarati.
- 13:41Speaker 3: Yes, sir.
- 13:44Speaker 7: All right, Baccarati, go ahead and shoot. You can stay
- 13:50Speaker 7: in the tunnel.
- 13:53Speaker 6: He's given up, sir.
- 13:53Speaker 7: He's locked the compartment.
- 13:54Speaker 3: Stay behind the fuel drum, Hatch. Go to the door. Yes, sir.
- 13:59Speaker 7: I can keep moving now. Get the disintegrator.
- 14:01Speaker 3: Here's the disintegrator, sir.
- 14:03Speaker 2: Get the door a blast.
- 14:10Speaker 3: Yes, sir.
- 14:17Speaker 4: Something's wrong.
- 14:18Speaker 2: It won't work. Fall to the stone floor. Probably built
- 14:20Speaker 2: with discharge mechanisms. Now we'll have to go clear back
- 14:24Speaker 2: to the other end of the tunnel for the other descent.
- 14:25Speaker 3: By that time, Buck, we'll be out of the tunnel.
- 14:27Speaker 3: We'll leave the spaceship. Let's get back to our ship, Hattie.
- 14:33Speaker 6: Hey, Commander.
- 14:34Speaker 4: I'd like to ask you something.
- 14:34Speaker 3: Sure, Hattie.
- 14:35Speaker 4: Don't you feel well?
- 14:36Speaker 7: I mean, do you feel weak or something?
- 14:38Speaker 6: No.
- 14:38Speaker 1: Why?
- 14:39Speaker 3: Well, that fuel drum. I could have lifted it easily
- 14:41Speaker 3: by myself.
- 14:42Speaker 2: It was empty.
- 14:43Speaker 7: Sure it was, Hattie.
- 14:45Speaker 6: Come on.
- 14:45Speaker 3: Let's hurry back to the ship.
- 14:46Speaker 2: Oh.
- 14:53Speaker 4: Meanwhile, Baccarati and Malangro have reached.
- 14:56Speaker 2: The other end of the tunnel where a small spaceship
- 14:58Speaker 2: sits poised, its sharp nose almost touching the heavy metal
- 15:02Speaker 2: gate that seals the entrance of the hangar. With a
- 15:04Speaker 2: last glance down the tunnel, Baccarati climbs into the ship,
- 15:07Speaker 2: followed by Malangro. Quickly, the prince presses a button that
- 15:10Speaker 2: operates the remote control mechanism, and the.
- 15:12Speaker 4: Huge gates slide back. Through the nose port, the two
- 15:16Speaker 4: men look out into a black curtain of space dotted
- 15:20Speaker 4: with bright, unwinking stars.
- 15:23Speaker 7: Put on a viewscope, Lengo. We'll see if any spaceships
- 15:26Speaker 7: are out there before we blast off.
- 15:27Speaker 8: Yes, Your Highness.
- 15:29Speaker 7: We can't cover a very wide angle while.
- 15:31Speaker 3: We're still in the tunnel.
- 15:33Speaker 7: But if it looks clear, we'll have to risk a
- 15:35Speaker 7: blast off.
- 15:36Speaker 2: There are no patrol ships visible, Your Highness.
- 15:38Speaker 3: All right.
- 15:39Speaker 7: We're blasting off. And I hope Corey managed to break
- 15:42Speaker 7: through that compartment door back there. In fact, I hope
- 15:46Speaker 7: he's right behind our ship when I cut out our rockets.
- 16:03Speaker 3: Good.
- 16:04Speaker 7: With our radar well covered, we can confuse their view scope.
- 16:10Speaker 7: I'll contact my castle on Planet X and report that
- 16:13Speaker 7: I'm returning. Prince Baccarati calling Black Falcon Castle on Planet X.
- 16:18Speaker 7: Prince Baccarati to number one tower. Report immediately.
- 16:22Speaker 6: Black Falcon Castle to your highness, Prince Baccarati. Murdoch speaking
- 16:26Speaker 6: and awaiting.
- 16:26Speaker 7: Your orders, sire. I'm returning to Planet X in a
- 16:29Speaker 7: Class D space cruiser. Alert the defense stations to expect
- 16:33Speaker 7: my code signal at the outer perimeter. Yes, your highness.
- 16:37Speaker 7: Do you have anything to report?
- 16:38Speaker 6: Well, yes, your highness.
- 16:40Speaker 2: It's in regard to the Aduria mine situation at the
- 16:42Speaker 2: polar cap.
- 16:43Speaker 7: Well, let's have it, Murdock.
- 16:44Speaker 6: Production in mine area five is at a complete standstill.
- 16:47Speaker 7: Standstill?
- 16:48Speaker 3: Why?
- 16:49Speaker 6: There's been a large-scale revolt. Six labor battalions refused to work.
- 16:53Speaker 7: That's against my law. Tell the supervisors to drive the
- 16:56Speaker 7: ringleaders out into the ice cap without food or protective clothing.
- 17:00Speaker 6: Your excellency.
- 17:01Speaker 2: The supervisors, I regret to report this, sire, but the
- 17:04Speaker 2: supervisors have sided with the slaves.
- 17:06Speaker 6: They refuse to enforce that order.
- 17:08Speaker 7: That's unheard of. Refusing to obey the orders of Prince Baccarati.
- 17:12Speaker 3: All right.
- 17:13Speaker 7: If that's the way they're going to play, I'll wipe
- 17:16Speaker 7: them all out. Turn on the atomic heat reflectors at
- 17:20Speaker 7: mine area five. Melt the grazer. Do you understand? Burn
- 17:23Speaker 7: them all like red. Turn on the heat reflector at one.
- 17:28Speaker 6: and pump them out. I mean that we'll do as
- 17:31Speaker 6: they're told. I'll tolerate no insubordination. Is that clear?
- 17:35Speaker 7: Yes, sir.
- 17:37Speaker 3: Then obey.
- 17:37Speaker 6: Prince Baccarat, the honor.
- 17:39Speaker 3: I've got a mass-murdering wrath. Baccarati is no that.
- 17:42Speaker 2: He's the most dangerous psychopathic tyrant in the history of
- 17:45Speaker 2: the solar system.
- 17:46Speaker 7: How are we going to.
- 17:47Speaker 3: Prevent those mines from being flooded?
- 17:49Speaker 7: If any of our ships go near Planet X, they'll
- 17:50Speaker 7: be destroyed.
- 17:51Speaker 4: He'll maintain this distance from Baccarati's ship.
- 17:53Speaker 2: Fortunately, we're close enough to detect his rocket blast, even
- 17:55Speaker 2: with the Vader foil producing interference in our view scope.
- 17:58Speaker 7: If we close in on him now, we could catch
- 18:00Speaker 7: him before any of his own ships could come to us.
- 18:01Speaker 4: But I want him to feel that he's perfectly safe
- 18:03Speaker 4: until the last minute.
- 18:04Speaker 2: You let him notify Planet X of his estimated arrival time,
- 18:07Speaker 2: and we'll start space-phone interferences.
- 18:10Speaker 7: Then he won't be able to call for help.
- 18:11Speaker 4: No, neither will we.
- 18:13Speaker 2: It'll be a battle just between us and Baccarati.
- 18:21Speaker 3: On through the.
- 18:22Speaker 2: Endless reaches of space, Buzz and Happy trail Prince Baccarati.
- 18:25Speaker 2: The ship appears in their view scope as a tiny
- 18:27Speaker 2: dotted plane surrounded by a shapeless blur, the effect of
- 18:31Speaker 2: the radar for it. Finally, both ships are far beyond.
- 18:34Speaker 3: The orbit of T-Bone.
- 18:35Speaker 2: Then, as they near the outer defense perimeter of Planet X,
- 18:38Speaker 2: Buzz increases acceleration.
- 18:40Speaker 4: In the small cruiser, Akirati smiles triumphantly at Dr.
- 18:43Speaker 3: Malinga.
- 18:45Speaker 2: Ah, we're safe now.
- 18:47Speaker 7: Even if any space patrol ship knew we were here,
- 18:49Speaker 7: they wouldn't dare affect us close to my own defenses.
- 18:53Speaker 3: Again, your highness.
- 18:55Speaker 8: We have outgiven Commander Coney.
- 18:57Speaker 7: I'm going to contact Murdoch at the castle to see
- 19:00Speaker 7: if mine area 5 hasn't been flooded out.
- 19:02Speaker 8: Hasn't been timely, your highness.
- 19:04Speaker 2: It will take several hours for the floodwaters to reach
- 19:06Speaker 2: the moon.
- 19:07Speaker 7: Well, that won't hurt to let them know I'm keeping
- 19:09Speaker 7: fab on them.
- 19:15Speaker 3: Confound it.
- 19:17Speaker 7: I know it's interference, but what could be causing it?
- 19:20Speaker 8: The viewscope.
- 19:23Speaker 2: Look.
- 19:24Speaker 7: The ship is closing in on us. Blango, why haven't
- 19:27Speaker 7: you been watching?
- 19:28Speaker 8: It's a space patrol ship. Commander Corey's.
- 19:34Speaker 7: I can't call for help at my defenses because of
- 19:36Speaker 7: this blasted jamming signal. Probably been on our trail ever
- 19:42Speaker 7: since we blasted off from Jupiter's fourth moon. Well, if
- 19:47Speaker 7: he wants to fight, he'll get it.
- 19:49Speaker 8: The ship isn't terribly armed, Johannes.
- 19:51Speaker 7: One lucky shot might do it. Take the controls, Melango.
- 19:54Speaker 7: I'll mend the space ship.
- 20:01Speaker 2: We're awfully close, sir, and I don't think he's seen
- 20:02Speaker 2: us yet. He may just be waiting till we get
- 20:04Speaker 2: close enough to fire at us. That little ship didn't
- 20:06Speaker 2: have much armament, sir.
- 20:08Speaker 3: Uh-oh.
- 20:09Speaker 4: Fire a space torpedo close to his port side, Hap.
- 20:11Speaker 3: Let him know we mean business, too.
- 20:12Speaker 7: Yes, sir.
- 20:19Speaker 2: Nice going, Hap. That came close enough to scrape the
- 20:22Speaker 2: radar coil off his hull.
- 20:23Speaker 3: Now cut our.
- 20:24Speaker 2: Interference down to 20 units. We can talk to him
- 20:26Speaker 2: without Planet X picking us up.
- 20:28Speaker 3: Yes, sir. Now, all set, sir.
- 20:32Speaker 2: Baccarati, this is Commander Corey. Surrender, or our next torpedo
- 20:35Speaker 2: will blast your rocket assembly.
- 20:36Speaker 6: It's Baccarati's penitent emergency.
- 20:39Speaker 2: They won't hear you, Baccarati. This is a private conversation
- 20:41Speaker 2: between you and me. Do you surrender, or do you
- 20:44Speaker 2: want Cadet Happy to demonstrate his skill.
- 20:46Speaker 3: At space gunnery? All right, Corey.
- 20:49Speaker 6: You win.
- 20:50Speaker 3: Now listen, Baccarati.
- 20:51Speaker 4: I'm going to join airlocks with your ship, and I'm
- 20:53Speaker 4: coming aboard.
- 20:54Speaker 7: Don't try anything.
- 20:55Speaker 6: All right, Commander.
- 20:58Speaker 4: Okay, have you take the controls.
- 20:59Speaker 3: I'll board Baccarati's ship immediately.
- 21:04Speaker 2: A few moments later, the Terra-5 joins airlocks to Baccarati's cruiser.
- 21:08Speaker 2: While happy remains of the controls, Buzz enters Baccarati's ship
- 21:11Speaker 2: with his ray gun ready for action.
- 21:15Speaker 6: All right, Baccarati.
- 21:16Speaker 4: Just be the controls as they are. Stand there beside
- 21:18Speaker 4: Malengo with your hands up.
- 21:20Speaker 3: Very well, Commander. I surrender gracefully. Take me to Terra.
- 21:24Speaker 4: I've got news for you, Baccarati.
- 21:26Speaker 3: We're going on to Planet X in your ship. I.
- 21:30Speaker 6: I don't understand.
- 21:31Speaker 2: I heard you ordered the glacier melted to flood the mines.
- 21:34Speaker 2: and to see that you stop that mass murder. And
- 21:36Speaker 2: the only way I can be sure is to take
- 21:37Speaker 2: you to Planet X. But if they see your ship,
- 21:39Speaker 2: my men, they destroy us all. I'm notifying Pluto Space
- 21:42Speaker 2: Patrol to pick up Terra 5 and take it to Pluto.
- 21:45Speaker 3: Our interference is beamed only toward Planet X, so your
- 21:47Speaker 3: cutthroats won't hear a word.
- 21:52Speaker 2: Within a few moments, the Terra 5 is headed back
- 21:54Speaker 2: toward Pluto on automatic pilot.
- 21:56Speaker 4: To be intercepted by Space Patrol ships.
- 21:59Speaker 2: Meantime, Baccarati's Pooja, with Buzz and Happy aboard, proceeds toward
- 22:02Speaker 2: Planet X.
- 22:04Speaker 3: All right, Baccarati.
- 22:05Speaker 2: I think it's time you reported to Murdoch at your
- 22:07Speaker 2: castle and get this straight. You'll regret it if you
- 22:10Speaker 2: attempt to warn them, understand?
- 22:12Speaker 3: Yes, sir.
- 22:13Speaker 2: Get a report on the heat reflectors near mine area five.
- 22:16Speaker 2: Then tell Murdoch you're heading for the polar cap to
- 22:18Speaker 2: watch the fun.
- 22:18Speaker 6: Got that?
- 22:20Speaker 4: I'll tell him I'm not planning at the castle first,
- 22:23Speaker 4: but I'm.
- 22:23Speaker 3: Going to the polar ice cap.
- 22:24Speaker 2: That's right.
- 22:25Speaker 7: I'll turn on your space phone and watch what you say.
- 22:29Speaker 7: Prince Baccarati to Murdoch at Black Falcon's castle, Planet X.
- 22:33Speaker 7: Prince Baccarati to Planet X.
- 22:34Speaker 6: Murdoch, to his highness, Mr.
- 22:36Speaker 3: Baccarati.
- 22:36Speaker 6: We tried to reach you before, but there was some interference.
- 22:39Speaker 3: Yes, I noticed it.
- 22:41Speaker 7: Did you follow my orders regarding mine area five?
- 22:44Speaker 6: The letter, your highness. The heat reflectors were started by
- 22:47Speaker 6: remote control.
- 22:48Speaker 2: Of course, it would be several hours yet before the
- 22:50Speaker 2: flood water reached the mine.
- 22:52Speaker 7: I understand. Murdoch, when I enter the atmosphere of Planet X,
- 22:57Speaker 7: I'll proceed at once to.
- 22:58Speaker 3: The ice cap.
- 23:01Speaker 7: I want to inspect the results. That's all, Murdoch.
- 23:06Speaker 2: From a dozen control towers on the enormous panel decks,
- 23:09Speaker 2: U-scope beams probe out into space and feel with electronic
- 23:12Speaker 2: fingers the contour of Baccarati's ship. The electronic ears listen
- 23:16Speaker 2: critically to the identification frequency radiated from.
- 23:18Speaker 4: The small cruiser, and then let the ship proceed unchallenged.
- 23:22Speaker 2: The watchdogs have recognized their master's voice, and having done
- 23:26Speaker 2: their duty, watch and listen for remote ships and sounds
- 23:28Speaker 2: that may approach over.
- 23:29Speaker 4: The infinite horizon of space. Then, within the atmosphere of Planet.
- 23:33Speaker 2: X, Buzz Corey heads Baccarati's ship for the northern polar regions.
- 23:37Speaker 2: Visible in the dim light are the atomic heat reflectors
- 23:40Speaker 2: and the surging, steaming waters that roar down from the
- 23:43Speaker 2: glacier into the valley toward Mine Area 5.
- 23:46Speaker 7: Smoking rockets, Commander. It's a regular flood.
- 23:49Speaker 4: Yes, unless it stops, 10,000 people.
- 23:51Speaker 3: Will meet a horrible death.
- 23:52Speaker 7: Well, can't you order Baccarati to tell Murdoch to cut
- 23:54Speaker 7: off the heat reflectors?
- 23:55Speaker 4: I could, but it would be out of character for
- 23:57Speaker 4: Baccarati to commit an.
- 23:58Speaker 3: Act of mercy. I see what you mean.
- 24:00Speaker 4: Murdoch might get suspicious.
- 24:01Speaker 2: Alert the whole planet that the big boss might be
- 24:03Speaker 2: in trouble. We'll blast those towers out of operation, Hap.
- 24:06Speaker 2: Stand by to fire the space cannon. Standing by, sir.
- 24:09Speaker 6: Corey, listen.
- 24:10Speaker 7: Those towers can't be replaced. I've millions of credits invested.
- 24:13Speaker 3: Quiet, Baccarati.
- 24:15Speaker 2: I'm thinking of 10,000 lives that can't be replaced.
- 24:18Speaker 7: But they're subhuman natives of Pentatex, most of them. Almost savages.
- 24:22Speaker 3: Yeah, look who's talking about savages.
- 24:24Speaker 7: The worst of them is worth a hundred of you, Baccarati.
- 24:26Speaker 2: Quiet!
- 24:39Speaker 4: Well, that did it happen. We got all of them
- 24:41Speaker 4: with one shot.
- 24:42Speaker 7: Yeah, but, Commander, the water's still pouring down off the glacier.
- 24:44Speaker 2: It will for a while, but when that intense cold
- 24:46Speaker 2: down there, it'll freeze back into ice before it reaches
- 24:48Speaker 2: the mine.
- 24:49Speaker 3: Hey, quit looking so sour, Baccarati.
- 24:51Speaker 7: You ought to be grateful. We just saved you from
- 24:53Speaker 7: destroying 10,000 people.
- 24:57Speaker 3: They won't obey me.
- 24:58Speaker 2: If they're men enough not to obey you, I'd say
- 25:00Speaker 2: they're well worth saving you. And that's just what you're
- 25:03Speaker 2: going to do, Baccarati. You're going to free them and
- 25:05Speaker 2: return them to their homes and families. Get on that
- 25:07Speaker 2: space phone and order all your ships here at once.

- 26:51Speaker 3: Baccarati and the Langrow are in here, all right. I
- 26:53Speaker 3: hear them down the side. Shall I use my atomo lights?
- 26:55Speaker 4: Not yet, then.

- 26:57Speaker 8: He's crushing my chest.

- 28:11Speaker 2: A word from the man who test flies it, Joe Lynch.
- 28:13Speaker 2: It's the Air Force F-86D Sabre Jet Interceptor, designed by
- 28:17Speaker 2: North American Aviation Los Angeles. The Sabre holds the world's
- 28:20Speaker 2: speed record at 715.7 miles per hour. Wing span is
- 28:24Speaker 2: 37 feet, length 41, cruising range 500 miles, timing speed 300.
- 28:29Speaker 4: Miles per hour.
- 28:30Speaker 3: Now by special tape recording, Maynard.
- 28:31Speaker 4: International Airport, the well-known test pilot of the Sabre, Joe Lynch.
- 28:37Speaker 5: The D is a one-man interceptor, so when you fly it,
- 28:40Speaker 5: you're really on your own. That's why I see to
- 28:43Speaker 5: it that I'm in good condition all the time. And
- 28:46Speaker 5: one way to stay in good condition is by eating
