- 0:00Speaker 1: Yeah, back on the coach of show Hall of Famer
- 0:02Speaker 1: Geen Orema with US Huskies will get Creighton tomorrow night
- 0:06Speaker 1: six thirty on the network Varsity Network at Varsitynetwork dot com.
- 0:09Speaker 1: And I want to say, Sirius XM eighty four tomorrow night,
- 0:14Speaker 1: check SERIOUSXM dot com for that. I'll come firm that later. Creighton,
- 0:17Speaker 1: by the way, I mean, not the same team that
- 0:19Speaker 1: we've seen in past years. And you kind of beat
- 0:21Speaker 1: them rather handily in Omaha on January eleventh. They lost
- 0:27Speaker 1: at DePaul, did not play well in the fourth quarter.
- 0:30Speaker 1: They then thumped Saint John's by thirty. They went at
- 0:34Speaker 1: Seaton Hall late, they rally and they beat Georgetown on
- 0:39Speaker 1: a hoop with two seconds to go, and then they
- 0:41Speaker 1: rally from twelve down to beat Marquette on Sunday in overtime.
- 0:46Speaker 1: This is a young, young team that's got a lot
- 0:49Speaker 1: of talent. The two players that really stand out of
- 0:51Speaker 1: the freshmen are Neelie Guesser, who's twin sisters also on
- 0:56Speaker 1: the team, and the Zediger kid, who had twenty three
- 1:00Speaker 1: against you. Kind of the first time out. She can
- 1:02Speaker 1: get to the basket, She's going to be a handful
- 1:05Speaker 1: for four years.
- 1:07Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, they are, they are.
- 1:09Speaker 3: I saw a lot of I saw those kids play
- 1:11Speaker 3: a lot during the summer, and they they really are
- 1:17Speaker 3: the kind of kids that uh, you know flan Jim Flanagan,
- 1:24Speaker 3: the coach at Creighton, he he gets those kind of kids,
- 1:29Speaker 3: you know, Midwestern kids.
- 1:30Speaker 2: They're tough kids, they can shoot.
- 1:32Speaker 3: They can handle the ball, you know, and and they
- 1:37Speaker 3: they just need some time to play together.
- 1:40Speaker 2: Uh yeah. They don't have the same same level of.
- 1:49Speaker 3: Experience and talent that that team that just graduated that
- 1:53Speaker 3: they went to the final eight with. But I think
- 1:56Speaker 3: these kids in the next couple of years are going
- 1:57Speaker 3: to be really, really good.
- 1:58Speaker 2: You know. I like that.
- 2:00Speaker 3: And you know, quite frankly, we need we need some
- 2:04Speaker 3: of these teams to get to get a lot better
- 2:07Speaker 3: in our league. You know, we need them to get good.
- 2:10Speaker 3: That that's important. I think when you look at you
- 2:14Speaker 3: look at the Big East, you know, and years ago
- 2:17Speaker 3: what we used to have, and you look at the
- 2:19Speaker 3: Big East now, Hey, when you look at the Big
- 2:22Speaker 3: East now, you know, on the women's side, on the
- 2:24Speaker 3: men's side, you know, on the women's side, we have
- 2:27Speaker 3: one team in the top twenty five. On the men's side,
- 2:30Speaker 3: we have two teams in the top twenty five. You know,
- 2:34Speaker 3: it's not the old Big East that we remember, you know, where.
- 2:39Speaker 2: One time.
- 2:41Speaker 3: Between the men's and women's teams, we had nineteen teams
- 2:44Speaker 3: in the NC tournament. We had sixteen teams in the league.
- 2:47Speaker 3: So we had nineteen teams in the NC tournament out
- 2:50Speaker 3: of thirty two.
- 2:52Speaker 2: Who's the old pick coach?
- 2:55Speaker 1: The woman I can't think of her name, sha Agnus Bernado.
- 2:58Speaker 1: When she was there and Shay was one of her assistants,
- 3:01Speaker 1: Agnes said winning the Big East Tournament was hard of
- 3:03Speaker 1: the one of the NCAA tournament.
- 3:05Speaker 2: Well, yeah, back in the day.
- 3:07Speaker 3: There was two years where we lost in the Big
- 3:09Speaker 3: East Tournament and we won the national championship.
- 3:12Speaker 2: I remember those days.
- 3:13Speaker 3: So yeah, you know you're playing at Louisville, at Rutgers,
- 3:17Speaker 3: at Notre Dame, you know, at Syracuse at De Paul.
- 3:22Speaker 2: You know, these teams, you know, these teams.
- 3:26Speaker 3: Were really really really really good Averrginia Tech, right, I
- 3:30Speaker 3: mean it was just an unbelievable league. And yeah, yeah,
- 3:38Speaker 3: it's unfortunate. You know, the money thing has really screwed
- 3:43Speaker 3: up a lot of things.
- 3:44Speaker 2: You know, we we.
- 3:46Speaker 3: Had the best of both worlds there for a number
- 3:49Speaker 3: of years. You know, we had football teams that were
- 3:52Speaker 3: playing in the biggest bowl games, and we had basketball
- 3:55Speaker 3: teams that were winning national championships.
- 3:57Speaker 2: We had the best of both worlds.
- 3:59Speaker 3: And you know, like all things in life, you know,
- 4:04Speaker 3: the money thing became an issue.
- 4:06Speaker 2: And you know, I'm a good.
- 4:09Speaker 3: Catholic boy, so I know that all the Jesuits in
- 4:12Speaker 3: our league, they they know, they know three things very
- 4:20Speaker 3: very well.
- 4:21Speaker 2: The Jesuits.
- 4:22Speaker 3: Okay, they're tremendous educators. They're they're they're the educators of
- 4:29Speaker 3: the Catholic Church. All those great Jesuit schools, BC, Saint Joe's, Georgetown,
- 4:35Speaker 3: you name it, all their schools. So they're great, great educators.
- 4:40Speaker 3: They are great fundraisers. They love money, and there isn't
- 4:48Speaker 3: a scotch they haven't met that they don't like.
- 4:53Speaker 2: I'll tell you.
- 4:53Speaker 3: I'll tell you a quick funny story. A friend of
- 4:56Speaker 3: mine was in seminary a long time ago. He was
- 5:00Speaker 3: a basketball coach. He left the seminary to become a
- 5:03Speaker 3: basketball coach. So he went from crazy to crazy er.
- 5:08Speaker 2: And uh, he said that.
- 5:12Speaker 3: You know, back in the day when people believed in
- 5:16Speaker 3: such things a woman had a baby boy, and she
- 5:21Speaker 3: wanted to know what this boy's life was going to
- 5:25Speaker 3: be like. And can you tell me this boy's future?
- 5:30Speaker 3: And so they called a woman. If you're tying, you
- 5:38Speaker 3: know there's a woman all the time. They'll come to
- 5:39Speaker 3: your house for five bucks and tell you your future.
- 5:42Speaker 3: And you know, so she made she made.
- 5:47Speaker 2: A great test.
- 5:51Speaker 3: And she said, I put him in the crib and
- 5:55Speaker 3: put a Bible next to him. She's like, okay, and
- 6:01Speaker 3: then get a bottle of whiskey and put it next
- 6:03Speaker 3: to him. And then get just a load of cash
- 6:08Speaker 3: and put it next to him.
- 6:10Speaker 2: Now come back tomorrow.
- 6:12Speaker 3: And if he's reading the Bible, he's going to become
- 6:15Speaker 3: a man of the cloth. If he's got money all
- 6:21Speaker 3: over himself, he's going to want to be a guy
- 6:24Speaker 3: that makes a lot of money, and money is going
- 6:27Speaker 3: to run his life.
- 6:28Speaker 2: If the whiskey's like half.
- 6:29Speaker 3: Gone, then this guy's going to have like a drinking
- 6:31Speaker 3: problem the rest of his life. So they come back
- 6:34Speaker 3: the next morning. The bible's open and he's looking at it.
- 6:38Speaker 3: He's got fifty dollars bills coming out of his shirt,
- 6:41Speaker 3: and the scotch is half gone, and the woman looks
- 6:44Speaker 3: at the mother and goes.
- 6:46Speaker 2: Oh my god, he's going to be a jesuit.
- 6:51Speaker 3: And if you done went to a jesuit school, you
- 6:54Speaker 3: know what I'm talking about.
- 6:56Speaker 2: It's Whydy's just so much fun.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Back with Gino in a minute and you kind of
- 6:59Speaker 1: women's back b sketball coaches show. Were Lavit Kaffee or
