- 0:00And Greg of Midlife Cards. And while distance may separate
- 0:05them, here is where they come together to talk cards.
- 0:10What? Is up.
- 0:14I am Mike. I'm joined by famous author Greg
- 0:18of Midlife Cards. Breaking news here, Greg.
- 0:22Well, I wouldn't certainly wouldn't say famous author.
- 0:27Maybe if anybody watched my episode what will be yesterday
- 0:34February 27th, then yes I did share some what I consider big
- 0:40news for me. You wrote a book and and I've I
- 0:46have written two books. I've never published one, but
- 0:49I've, I've written two books and then I chickened out.
- 0:52I, I became a coward and I was like, I can't do anything.
- 0:54I know how difficult it is. It is extremely difficult to
- 0:58complete a book. How long?
- 0:59First of all, what's it called? Tell me about the book.
- 1:02Well, the book is I have it right here.
- 1:04I can hold it up. Well, this is a this is a proof
- 1:08that it this it's called midlife Card Collecting stories.
- 1:14And it's, well, yeah, I don't want to get ahead of myself, but
- 1:19it's 20 different stories of card collecting events, true
- 1:24stories from my experiences in card collecting over the last 40
- 1:30years and or experiences with my brother and or with my dad and
- 1:36or with all of us. And which chapter am I in?
- 1:41I'm trying to think you might be in it that I there are a couple
- 1:45of chapters that have several Youtubers mentioned and the
- 1:53intro or the about the author at the beginning it it it does
- 1:59shout out sports Card clubhouse. It says Greg is also the Co
- 2:03founder of the Sports Card Clubhouse, YouTube channel,
- 2:06podcast network and website. Nice.
- 2:09That's all in there. Yeah, so.
- 2:12So that sounds really good. I have not I I've purchased one.
- 2:16I haven't seen it yet. I am looking forward to
- 2:19receiving it in strong dependence right.
- 2:23Yeah, so the deal is this I, you know, people want to buy it.
- 2:27It's it's available starting. Well, this will post on February
- 2:3228th and, and by the way, I feel like I should back up what will
- 2:37be yesterday, but as we record, this is tomorrow, the day that I
- 2:41release this information on my channel.
- 2:44It's also Mookie Chilson's birthday.
- 2:46Oh, Mookie, Happy birthday. February 27th is Mookie's
- 2:50birthday, so I'm I'm excited to let him know that I care about
- 2:54him tomorrow. But yeah, the so so it goes on
- 3:00sale March 1st and on Amazon. But I being just how I'm wired,
- 3:08I would love to be able to hand copies of the book to people
- 3:13instead of them just receive it in the mail and some cardboard
- 3:16box. And so at Strongsville at the
- 3:20four Collectors trade night, which is April 11th, Saturday,
- 3:24April 11th, I'm going to be doing like a delivery slash
- 3:30signing slash whatever at the four collectors trade night.
- 3:35I'll have a table set up and people can pre-order the book.
- 3:40And in fact, what I'll do is down below in the description of
- 3:46this episode, I will put a link if people are interested.
- 3:50But this only works if you're going to be at Strongsville.
- 3:52If you're not going to be at Strongsville, you got to buy it
- 3:54through Amazon. If you're going to be at
- 3:56Strongsville, you can order it. I can get a little bit of a
- 3:59cheaper rate on it because I can get a bowl discount and I will
- 4:03bring them, I will have them delivered.
- 4:05I will have them with me at Strongsville.
- 4:09It would bring me great joy to hand the book to people instead
- 4:13of have it just be mailed and. You're going to autograph them,
- 4:16the ones that are at. If that's what would bring
- 4:18people joy, I would love to be able to sign, inscribe,
- 4:24personalize, whatever people would like.
- 4:27So. At the trade night, yeah.
- 4:29There is. As you know, there is a big
- 4:31movement in unique fun inscriptions where it can really
- 4:36increase the value of it. And so I'm thinking about resale
- 4:40here. I got to think about how do I
- 4:41sell this book after I buy it from you and get an autograph
- 4:45from you. It has to be something super
- 4:48unique that I have you inscribe and so I'm thinking about that.
- 4:55Like you let me know. I mean that would be a good one.
- 4:59I don't want to give up anything to other people though 'cause
- 5:02I'm going to sell mine for the most it's going to go on.
- 5:03Card Ladder is the highest selling Greg Miller book ever.
- 5:07I mean, it makes sense. It makes sense.
- 5:09You, you, you definitely are always looking for a way to get
- 5:13an advantage. So yeah, anything people want as
- 5:17long as it's, you know, appropriate.
- 5:22Walk the plank is pretty good, though.
- 5:25I'm open to people, you know, having an inscription that is a
- 5:31one of one subscription inscription.
- 5:35So if you want to claim, walk the plank right now and.
- 5:39I'm claiming it. It's mine.
- 5:40OK, so there there will be no other walk the plank
- 5:44inscriptions, so I will put a a specific one if people want.
- 5:50But this is only for Strongsville and then if you
- 5:54claim it, nobody else can claim it.
- 5:56So walk the Plank is officially taken.
- 5:58It will be the only walk the plank inscription.
- 6:03Why am I struggling with that word today?
- 6:05It's a tough one. It's been a rough day.
- 6:06It's been a rough day. Go ahead.
- 6:08How long did you spend writing the book?
- 6:12I am really one of my big see, I can't even, I can't just give
- 6:16you a straight answer. I have to give a full
- 6:18explanation, which is really what the book is.
- 6:20It's not just, you know, to the point stories.
- 6:24It's what was happening in my life at the time.
- 6:28Why was this particular event important and what happened?
- 6:34It's got a lot of memoir type things tied into each story
- 6:40about what was happening in my dad's life, what was happening
- 6:42in my life. Why was this an important
- 6:44purchase or event at that time? A lot of anecdotal stuff.
- 6:50I started it over the summer because I can't sit still.
- 6:53It's a sickness that I have see, I have the summers off.
- 6:58And so it was like June or July. I could, I could go back and
- 7:01look to see when I wrote Chapter 1, but it was June or July.
- 7:05I have, you know, part of, I have June off.
- 7:08I have July off and I've part of August off as a teacher.
- 7:11And so, you know, making 3 or 4 YouTube videos per week and then
- 7:17starting up sports car clubhouse with you wasn't enough.
- 7:20I said I, I have like a couple of extra, you know, hours in the
- 7:24week. So I decided I wanted to do it
- 7:27and, and I, I feel like writing a book is kind of presumptuous.
- 7:32It's like, well, I'm going to write information because other
- 7:35people, you know, would love to hear from what I have to say.
- 7:39Like it's it's kind of a, it can be a little bit of an
- 7:42egotistical thing. And so I felt for a while like I
- 7:47didn't, I wasn't sure if I wanted to write it and then keep
- 7:52it myself like you just described, or if I wanted to
- 7:55publish it. But it's sort of like a YouTube
- 7:58video. When you publish it, it's there
- 8:00forever. And when it's there forever,
- 8:03then people that you care about can always get it.
- 8:09And that to me was important because, you know, our time on
- 8:13earth is short. And this could be a way that my
- 8:17grandkids or my kids or my friends or whoever that want to
- 8:24get insight into my life and why this was a big part of it.
- 8:29And, and the how it impacted me. It, it, it's something that
- 8:33becomes like, it's, it's like a, it's like a lock box, wasn't it?
- 8:38What was it? Al Gore said in the debate.
- 8:41A lock box will put the Social Security money in a lock box, he
- 8:44said. It's like a time capsule, you
- 8:46know, it's, it's like you can freeze the memories before
- 8:52they're lost. And that was important to me.
- 8:55Does your money appreciate in a lock box?
- 8:57I'm. You don't remember that?
- 9:01There was no recollection of that.
- 9:02Oh, I remember weird stuff. There were all sorts of things
- 9:06and debates that I remember. George Bush and Al Gore were
- 9:10going back and forth and George Bush was calling everything
- 9:13fuzzy mass that Al Gore would say.
- 9:15And Al Gore would say, yeah, I'm going to put that, that those
- 9:18funds are going to go in a lock box where they can't be touched
- 9:21from, you know, we can't dip into those for other things.
- 9:25It's only set aside for that. I don't know why I remember
- 9:28that. But I do.
- 9:32So you wrote this book. It's called Collecting Stories.
- 9:35Midlife card collecting stories? Yeah.
- 9:39Awesome. Midlife card collecting stories,
- 9:42because that's what it is, is it's, it's 20 stories and it
- 9:45starts at the very beginning of me discovering cards and, and
- 9:52how that all happened. And it goes all the way to a
- 9:56couple of the most recent stories were like, I mean, one
- 10:02of them was like 3 months ago. One of the one of the stories
- 10:06happened while I was writing the book.
- 10:10Chapter 19 happened like two or three months ago chapter.
- 10:14It's not 100% in order. Chapter 20 is about two years
- 10:19old, but it's it's somewhat chronological, but it's in an
- 10:23order that makes sense and is mostly chronological.
- 10:27Nice. Yeah, that's cool.
- 10:29I'm excited for it. I'll read it on the plane.
- 10:32It's on the on the way home you mean?
- 10:35Of course I wouldn't get to read it on the way there.
- 10:37Since well, that's, that's why I was saying, I mean, I could send
- 10:39you the PDF if you really wanted to.
- 10:41But yeah, I, I'm, I'm really excited about it.
- 10:45I, I genuinely think that if people are into cards and they
- 10:50have any positive feelings towards me, then they would
- 10:54enjoy it. If they don't like cards, they
- 10:58might enjoy it. If they don't like me, they
- 11:02might not enjoy it. But it, it, it's, it's fun and
- 11:07it's a super light read. It's not like, I mean, it's
- 11:10storytelling. It's, it's basically me telling
- 11:13stories. And then I got a lot of help.
- 11:16My daughter is an avid reader. She's a college student and she
- 11:20helped me with the editing process.
- 11:22She helped me with the publication process.
- 11:25And so I worked out a financial agreement with her on on her
- 11:31getting some financial reward from it so to incentivize her,
- 11:37but she'd have done it for free because she's a good kid.
- 11:40Of course, Speaking of financial arrangements, if you want to
- 11:44sell your card collection, Greg, where would you go?
- 11:48I would go to Chris Sewell, collector, investor, dealer, in
- 11:52that order. Chris Sewell is the best guy,
- 11:57the most trustworthy guy that I would probably go to if I was
- 12:02going to sell a collection. He's looking to buy large
- 12:06collections. In fact, I was just listening to
- 12:08him today on the way home after I finished your episode, Your
- 12:13mail Day. By the way, I listened to Chris
- 12:15on Theo Clemente Collectors channel talking about how he
- 12:22buys large collections, whether the market is hot, whether the
- 12:25market is cold, whether the market is flat.
- 12:30So again, Chris Sewell at Collector investor dealer, in
- 12:35that order. Again, he is a partner of the
- 12:39Sports Car Clubhouse. You can find information about
- 12:42him on our link on our website, but also on his website,
- 12:48collectorinvestordealer.com. Again, you and I go back and
- 12:52forth on this, but his website sayschris@collectorinvestordealer.com
- 12:58is where you could e-mail him, but there's another one you
- 13:00share the other place that he could be emailed.
- 13:04It's chris@sewellsportscards.com.
- 13:07That's right. And again, if you go to the
- 13:09Sports Card Clubhouse web page, which I'll pull up right here,
- 13:13and you go to Partners, again, if you're watching, you could be
- 13:17following along. There is Chris himself and a
- 13:21link to his website, the one I was just showing.
- 13:24So yes. And Greg, you mentioned when you
- 13:28were talking about your book, people that don't like you might
- 13:31not like the book, but I can't imagine nobody liking you or
- 13:35somebody not how is. It possible that?
- 13:37Someone might not like you. It seemed unimaginable.
- 13:42Really. Until this.
- 13:43Week and I, I have to say first of all, let's let's skip past
- 13:47that for just a moment and I wanted to congratulate because
- 13:49you did win an award. I did win an impressive award.
- 13:53I won an award from the Misfits. So those of you out there who
- 13:58are not familiar with the Misfits, there is a group of
- 14:03Youtubers, but also just card collectors of guys that John
- 14:09Mangini is one of the leaders of.
- 14:12I guess you could say he does a lot of their videos and their
- 14:16live streams and things and, and our buddy Rick vintage oddball
- 14:20cards and, and you know, there's, there's several of
- 14:23them. Lou Rock was on the episode
- 14:26where they were presenting the awards, and the award that I won
- 14:29was the most diarrhea of the mouth.
- 14:34And there were there were, I think there were three nominees,
- 14:39but it was really, it was really going to be between me and
- 14:42Dylan. Double D vintage baseball cards.
- 14:45Yeah, and Dylan, probably. He probably cried himself asleep
- 14:48when he didn't win it. I.
- 14:50Mean he's probably talking to himself all the time the whole
- 14:52way to bed. That is a prestigious award.
- 14:56I'm pretty excited. About it you should be.
- 14:59Yeah, I I was just happy to come away with an award yesterday.
- 15:02It is the consolation prize because you did not get into the
- 15:07YouTube sports card Hall of Fame, which I have to be honest,
- 15:11if you had told me two weeks ago that you weren't going to get
- 15:13in, I would have speculated that you had done something very
- 15:17illegal or offensive. But no, I I've gone through,
- 15:21I've watched your videos, you have not done or said anything
- 15:24offensive and yet you still what place did you come in?
- 15:27Top five make it in. Were you 6th or no?
- 15:30No. Theo was sixth.
- 15:32I should be in. Why is Theo not in?
- 15:35I, my understanding is I was 7th.
- 15:38My understanding is Theo. Theo missed by like 2 votes and
- 15:45I missed by three or four I think.
- 15:47And then I don't know what place.
- 15:49What place did you finish in? I think I was after you and so I
- 15:54slipped from 6th to 8th at least.
- 15:58But what? How is it possible that you
- 16:03don't get into you? You've created a nation, you've
- 16:06built a community, you're friends with all these
- 16:08Youtubers. How does this happen, Greg?
- 16:13Well, the first thing I would say is the IT would be
- 16:18presumptuous for me or anybody to think that one is more
- 16:24deserving than another. I mean, there are, there are
- 16:27five channels that did, did get in.
- 16:29And then another channel, another channel Theo who who was
- 16:34finished with more votes than me.
- 16:36And to say, well, I should have gotten in or you should have
- 16:40gotten in or anybody. That's to assume that that our
- 16:44channels, my channel, your channel is better than the five
- 16:47that got in. And and I don't think that that
- 16:50is something that could just be said.
- 16:53I think that there are a lot of great channels in the community.
- 16:57I love that it's a giant menu. You know, I like going, you
- 17:01know, I like in and out. I love in and out out here in
- 17:04California. I know they've spread a lot, but
- 17:07they have like 3 things on the menu.
- 17:09Like 3 things. I know they have the secret
- 17:12menu, all that. I know yeah, I I get that.
- 17:14But they have a small menu and then there's some restaurants
- 17:17you go to and there's like, you know, 100 items.
- 17:21Our community has like 100 different things and what I
- 17:27bring to the table with my channel and I even think what
- 17:30you bring to the community with your channel, they bring certain
- 17:34things to the forefront or their menu items that maybe aren't
- 17:41appealing necessarily to some of the voters or all of the voters
- 17:47or many of the voters. So you know, very deserving
- 17:52channels that got in great guys. All of them are really good
- 17:56guys. So I'm super happy for all of
- 18:00them. Well deserving of the
- 18:03admiration, the praise. Some of those guys are some of
- 18:05my closest friends in the hobby. Three of them I voted for
- 18:10myself. So.
- 18:14So yeah, I mean, I don't, I don't know.
- 18:15Did I answer the question? What do you think?
- 18:17Are you surprised that you didn't get in?
- 18:19I mean, I could say the same thing about you.
- 18:21You have twice as many subscribers as I have.
- 18:24You have like 15,000 subscribers, probably more than
- 18:27that, I don't know. And you, you have a very popular
- 18:32channel. You're very recognizable guy.
- 18:35Were you surprised that you didn't get in?
- 18:38At some point a year ago, when I didn't get in the first time and
- 18:41I was, I missed by a vote, you said, I think we were on a live
- 18:45stream together and you and Dan and Jake said there's no way
- 18:51you're not getting in next year. And I said, no, you're wrong.
- 18:55I won't get even close next year.
- 18:57Because last year was the year I had done a lot.
- 19:01I had, I'd made a lot of friends.
- 19:03I had really put a lot of effort in.
- 19:05I was watching a lot of channels.
- 19:07And in 2025, I had to step back from that because of other
- 19:11obligations. And so that hurts you as a
- 19:16creator. And we had an influx of amazing
- 19:21channels that became eligible in the past year.
- 19:24And so I felt like I would take a step back, which I'm OK with.
- 19:28I am thrilled for these channels that get in.
- 19:32I do think, though, that there is a flaw in the voting process
- 19:39and I'm part of that flaw. And I, I think, I'm guessing you
- 19:43are too. I'd, I'd have to ask you, but I
- 19:45believe that most people vote for their friends and, and a lot
- 19:48of people would say, well, I'm friends with the people who have
- 19:51the best channels. But wouldn't it be a better
- 19:56process if we could somehow come up with a way for commenters to
- 20:01vote because the commenter should determine.
- 20:04I think one of the things I do is I say, well.
- 20:08Jeff Wilson isn't going to care about this.
- 20:09Card Collector 2 isn't going to care about this.
- 20:12I would say Dustin wouldn't care about this, but we know he does.
- 20:16And so I don't vote for those bigger channels.
- 20:18I'm voting for the smaller ones. I'm voting for my friends.
- 20:21And it's it's a flawed process because of that.
- 20:24But I don't think the commenters would have that same flaw.
- 20:29And I think that you might have some Youtubers who are
- 20:34campaigning for their own votes, but I'd be interested in seeing
- 20:39what it looks like if we could figure out a way to give one
- 20:41vote to each commenter who wants to vote.
- 20:46Yeah, I mean that that would definitely change things, I I
- 20:51think. Not, not one vote, sorry.
- 20:52One ballot, right. Yeah.
- 20:55I think one of the things is, is, is what if I were to ask
- 20:59you, or let me ask you now, what's the criteria for being a
- 21:03Hall of Famer? Like some people would say a
- 21:07Hall of Famer is somebody who is, is intelligent about the
- 21:14hobby, knows a lot about the hobby, shares that knowledge
- 21:17with people. Some people might say that is a
- 21:20Hall of Famer, some might say it's a person who has the
- 21:24greatest collection and shares that collection and adds to the
- 21:28community with their collection. Some would say that it's an
- 21:32active person, a person who not only creates videos, but
- 21:36comments on videos, is guests on videos.
- 21:40So I, I guess I mean, because if you, even if you look at like
- 21:42the Baseball Hall of Fame, there are, there are criteria, at
- 21:47least some guidelines for what is determined to be a Hall of
- 21:52Famer. Now, this is not my brainchild.
- 21:55I, I mean, I literally, you know, this, this was around
- 21:59before I made my first video. Obviously I've, it's, there are
- 22:03many classes to this and I have, you know, was finally eligible
- 22:08for this year's class. And and so I don't know, I know
- 22:12that the a lot of the original intent was to shout out other
- 22:17channels. I also know that a lot of the
- 22:20commenters, a lot of the viewers don't necessarily really like
- 22:25the whole thing. Like there are a lot of viewers
- 22:28that like like when I do did my ballot, it had some of it have
- 22:32it was probably the lowest viewed video that I made in six
- 22:36months. Yeah, because still don't care.
- 22:40Well then, and and that which goes to will Should commenters
- 22:43be the voters if the commenters don't care?
- 22:46And who are we doing this for to begin with?
- 22:48If right, if commenters were involved in the process, they
- 22:53might care more. I don't know.
- 22:56I don't know. I mean, whatever they decide to
- 22:58do, I'm sure will be great. I know that there's a, we're in
- 23:03the third, third group of people who are kind of leading it.
- 23:09And I know there have been changes over the years.
- 23:11It went from 10 people per class to five.
- 23:15That changed a few years ago. I think you used to have to, you
- 23:18didn't have to have three years of experience to be eligible
- 23:22before this year. They had the veterans committee.
- 23:25So they're willing to make adjustments and it'll be
- 23:30interesting to see what adjustments they continue to
- 23:34make to it. But but yeah, so I obviously
- 23:39think highly of your channel. You know, you mentioned Dustin.
- 23:43I voted for Dustin, I voted for Neo.
- 23:46I think that what those guys bring to the community is a lot
- 23:53of see for me, my and that's again, I go back to what is the
- 23:57criteria. For me, the main criteria is
- 24:03effort. It's it's output.
- 24:07And I like the channels that have high output because when I
- 24:11think of a Hall of Fame, I think of who excels.
- 24:15And excel doesn't necessarily mean popular, It means they're
- 24:19productive. And so Dustin does lots of
- 24:23content. He puts effort into his content.
- 24:27And so to me, he's worthy of a Hall of Fame spot.
- 24:31But Dustin doesn't leave a ton of comments on other people's
- 24:35channels. And and so he's not, he doesn't
- 24:38do a lot of cross pollenization. You know, he doesn't come on a
- 24:41lot of other people's channels. I don't know if he's not asked
- 24:44or what, But so I think maybe if if I were to make a suggestion,
- 24:51it might be create some criteria because there are a lot of
- 24:57people who are voting who I don't know if they have the same
- 25:01criteria as the next guy. So when you say Greg, I'm
- 25:05surprised you didn't get in. Well, that's based on your
- 25:07criteria, not necessarily based on the average voters criteria,
- 25:12because obviously the average voter criteria preferred some
- 25:16other. Things, well, you're a Hall of
- 25:18Famer in my book, Craig. So are you, my friend?
- 25:21Thank you. Yeah.
- 25:23So. I think it's a it's a great idea
- 25:25at the Hall of Fame. It's fun.
- 25:27It's I think that it would, it'll be interesting to see
- 25:30because these guys who are running an Alaskani tradition
- 25:33being one of them came up with the OG ballot as you alluded to
- 25:38veterans committee, I guess. And it'll be interesting to see
- 25:42what other changes they might make.
- 25:44Yeah, yeah. I mean, everything's a work in
- 25:48progress, everything including me and you.
- 25:54OK, so. Go ahead, Greg.
- 25:55I don't know what you're talking.
- 25:56About that's that's that might be why you didn't get into the
- 25:59Hall of Fame. OK, so we've talked a little bit
- 26:04about the YouTube Hall of Fame. That announcement came out
- 26:06yesterday. We talked a little bit about my
- 26:09book that came out tomorrow as we record this on Thursday the
- 26:1426th. I had some other things.
- 26:18Are you open to me throwing a couple other topics at you?
- 26:22Let's do it. Now on OK, so I want me to give
- 26:28you a menu of my my ideas, and then you pick from the menu.
- 26:32Yeah, I love it. I was just saying how I like
- 26:34menus and I like options. All right, option #1 the current
- 26:39status of my SGC order and my thoughts on that status.
- 26:47OK, that's one option. By the way, that order was
- 26:50mailed off on December 27th. Do I sense a rant?
- 26:55I don't know what I don't know. I don't know next one since the
- 27:03last time we talked, Teapot released his most recent video
- 27:07about the card grading carousel and changes in grades.
- 27:14So that was. I'm going to take that one just
- 27:15for a moment and and throw a little, not spoiler, but
- 27:20advertisement, I guess because I'm having teapot on this week
- 27:24in sports cards this week. The episode should release on
- 27:27Monday, assuming that everything goes well and we get our
- 27:30conversation recorded over the weekend.
- 27:33I will be talking to Teapot about that very thing, which I'm
- 27:36excited about. I haven't watched the video yet,
- 27:38I haven't had any time, but I'm excited to watch it.
- 27:40I have to. Watch it before I record with
- 27:42him so I've got to find some time.
- 27:44It was a good video. It was a really good video.
- 27:47So that that's a topic. Another topic is on Sunday, I'm
- 27:54releasing my pickups video for the month and I bought a couple
- 28:00of modern cards and I've got a couple of big modern cards that
- 28:06end in the next couple of days that I'm seriously considering.
- 28:10And am I doing a full pivot into modern?
- 28:13Am I now a modern card collector?
- 28:16Do am IA shiny card collector because I've been selling some
- 28:21of my vintage stuff? Those are those are the topics
- 28:26that I've got. Which of those three do you want
- 28:29to dive into? If you can guarantee me a rant,
- 28:33I want to go into the SGC talk. I can't guarantee a rant, but
- 28:38I'm happy to still go there. OK so I OK on December 27th I
- 28:46mailed them a priority. Why did I choose priority now?
- 28:51I have no idea, but at the time that I did my order it was a 15
- 28:56to 20 day turn around on December 27th.
- 29:02On December 27th I mailed my order.
- 29:04It arrived on December 29th. I know that because one it was 2
- 29:09day priority, but also because I looked at the tracking.
- 29:15On January 8th it finally said that it had arrived, that they
- 29:21had received it. That's when it in their system,
- 29:24it said received. In the olden days they would
- 29:27have had it graded in in the mail back to you by then.
- 29:30Literally. I mean, there were times that
- 29:32the cards arrived on Monday and they had been mailed back before
- 29:35Friday, like. By the way, that acquisition was
- 29:38two years ago this weekend. Yeah, it was.
- 29:41It was February 29th. It was Leap Day, right?
- 29:44Yeah. So two years ago it could have
- 29:49already been back, you know, so, so it, it, it stayed in
- 29:55received, received, received, received.
- 29:58Now day 15 gone, 1617181920 gone.
- 30:02On about day 25 or 20 to 25, they came out and said our turn
- 30:11around time is now 40 to 50 days business.
- 30:14Days. Business days.
- 30:17Now to me that should mean to all cards received at that
- 30:23point. It shouldn't mean wait, wait,
- 30:26wait, wait, wait, wait. I know I received your card 25
- 30:30business days ago, but this is now what we're going to do from
- 30:34this point forward or some sort of make good for for missing
- 30:40their promised or suggested or estimated times.
- 30:45So what they need is a like a dynamic turn around time display
- 30:49that says turn around times right now are 17 business days.
- 30:55And so when you place your order, you, you know that turn
- 30:58around times at the time that you placed them are this the
- 31:02problem is that they're telling you that what it appears to you
- 31:06as the person who's ordering some graded cards is that the
- 31:10turn around time for your order is going to be 10 to 15 business
- 31:14days. When it in reality it wasn't
- 31:16because they were already behind when you placed that order.
- 31:21When I placed the order on the order it was a 15 to 20 day turn
- 31:27around time. I mean invoice that by the way,
- 31:32I paid them in December of 2025. They've had my money for two
- 31:38months and and here we are so so from the time that they actually
- 31:45received my cards, I'm on business day 44 right now, OK,
- 31:52from when they said that they received it, it's business day
- 31:5636. So even even though they had an
- 32:01extra week that they built in week and 1/2 that they built in
- 32:06there, they built in an extra week and 1/2 and, and even then
- 32:11I'm at 36 days from now. Remember again, my invoice said
- 32:1415 to 20 day turn around time and, and I'm on day 36 right
- 32:20now. So I emailed them last week on
- 32:24Friday and I said, Hey, you know, and I didn't, I, I went
- 32:30into the customer support thing where you just put it and you
- 32:33hit submit and then you, I think I did it right.
- 32:35I think they're going to get something.
- 32:38I did that on Friday, nothing Friday, nothing Monday, nothing
- 32:43Tuesday, nothing Wednesday, Thursday, 5 business days later,
- 32:48so the same amount of time that they used to grade and return my
- 32:52cards. I finally got an e-mail back and
- 32:55the e-mail was 100% of form e-mail response.
- 33:00It wasn't even like a personalized thing.
- 33:03It was we're overloaded right now.
- 33:05I mean I could even pull it up on the screen if you want to see
- 33:08it. So it took them five business
- 33:10days to send you a form e-mail. 100% It took them five business
- 33:17days to let me put it on the screen.
- 33:21Alejandro Marquez. I'm sure he's a wonderful
- 33:25person. Let's put it on the screen.
- 33:29Oh, man, is this going to work? Why did that happen?
- 33:32Oh, hold on, hold on. I'm going to have to do this
- 33:36again. He it take 5 business days to
- 33:41get a form e-mail back. Here it is.
- 33:43Right here is my e-mail. Hello Greg, glad to hear from
- 33:50you. Oh really?
- 33:52Let's read the whole thing for all of those out there
- 33:54listening. As a collector myself, I
- 33:58understand the imortance of having a reliable turn around
- 34:01time to help set the exectations of your order.
- 34:04Unfortunately at this time I feel like I'm talking to the
- 34:07Moose in front of Wally World. Unfortunately.
- 34:11That's a great reference. Unfortunately, at this time we
- 34:17are expecting the turn around times to stay around where they
- 34:21currently are. I want to assure you that we are
- 34:26taking every precaution necessary to ensure that we are
- 34:29completing orders as quickly as we can without sacrificing the
- 34:33quality that is expected of our team.
- 34:36Additionally, I am not sure if you saw there was a recent
- 34:40update that came out directly from collectors mentioning how
- 34:44we are going to be expanding both our team and our facility
- 34:48to accommodate the continued volume that our team is
- 34:51processing. This is the same group that used
- 34:55to be 5 days, OK, Yeah, before you harvested all of the
- 34:59graders. With that said, once our team
- 35:02has been able to get through this transitional period and the
- 35:06turn around times are back down to the industry leading times
- 35:09that SGC has been known for, we will make plenty of
- 35:13announcements. On behalf of the SGC team, we do
- 35:16appreciate your understanding and continued support.
- 35:20If you have any other questions, please let me know, I am happy
- 35:24to help. Sincerely Alex.
- 35:26It took them five days to give me that form response which made
- 35:33absolutely no mention of anything in my comment about my
- 35:40exact submission, about the cards in them, about where they
- 35:46stand there, there there is. That is complete copy paste.
- 35:50It took five days for a copy paste I.
- 35:53Don't know. Rant.
- 35:55Yeah, it's a great it's a read rant.
- 35:56And now I just want to go watch National Lampoon's Vacation.
- 36:02I mean, is there anything better than when Clark Griswold just
- 36:05just rears up and just punches that moose right in the nose?
- 36:10Other than going to Big 5 or whatever a sporting goods store
- 36:13and getting the the pellet gun. Does it slightly off topic?
- 36:19Does it ruin it for you now when you're watching that movie and
- 36:22you know what a colossal jerk Chevy Chase is in real life?
- 36:27Now you have to understand something.
- 36:29There are a lot of colossal jerks in this world, and Chevy
- 36:33Chase is an insanely funny colossal jerk.
- 36:38I mean, if you go through the list, I mean, you just go
- 36:40through all of the Chevy Chase stuff.
- 36:42There are few people on planet Earth that has has more output
- 36:48of funny than Chevy Chase. In my eyes.
- 36:51Dave Chappelle is above him, but there aren't many.
- 36:54And so does that bug me? Not really.
- 36:58It doesn't really take away from me.
- 36:59I mean, anybody who could say, you know, hey, can I borrow your
- 37:03towel? I just hit a water Buffalo just
- 37:06on. Spot on.
- 37:07I mean, that's just I mean, this, this is just, I mean, it's
- 37:10just you could go through the spies like us all that, you
- 37:13know, you got John Candy in that movie.
- 37:15I mean, the movie is classic. Chevy Chase is classic.
- 37:18There are a lot of jerks if we ever get to know each other.
- 37:21Maybe, maybe Chevy Chase would have gotten into the YouTube
- 37:25Hall of Fame. What do you think?
- 37:27You can stop sharing your screen so I can see you see you better.
- 37:32Yeah, it does. I don't.
- 37:34I can. What is it?
- 37:36I guess it's compartmentalize the movies or shows that I'm
- 37:39watching and ignore who the people are outside and enjoy
- 37:44them for what they are. But yeah, that's SGC sucks.
- 37:50And I sent an order of four cards off to CGCJSA this past
- 37:57week and they received them. I mailed them on Saturday and I
- 38:03got the alert yesterday, Wednesday, that they had
- 38:06received them and they were entered into the system three
- 38:10business days. I sent 5 cards for grading, 5
- 38:14raw cards and 2RE holders and and I'm on day.
- 38:21I'm on real day 44, real business day 44.
- 38:26Their count is business day 36. It's really discouraging, man.
- 38:34Yeah. Well, that I mean, but that's so
- 38:38that's what you chose over teapot and my modern card
- 38:42collecting pivot. That's what we get.
- 38:44Well let's talk modern card collecting because I just bought
- 38:472 big refractors this week that I'll get in my mail day next
- 38:51week I hope. Define big.
- 38:57For me, big the grand total between the two of them, about
- 39:02$250. No, see, not that bad.
- 39:07I'm glad that we specified. The two cards that I'm looking
- 39:12at are big. I can't bring myself to spend
- 39:18that much money on modern cards, I know.
- 39:20That's why. That's why I probably will
- 39:22chicken out. What are they don't tell you
- 39:25how? Much.
- 39:26How much? What are you talking about?
- 39:30$1000 cards. For one card.
- 39:34Yeah, let. Me think here I'm going to look
- 39:37at my collection. Here I have the most I've ever
- 39:41spent on one modern card. What about it is 250?
- 39:51I would say and we're talking 2000 and and since then probably
- 39:58250 is my guess. I also bought.
- 40:01No, no, I'm wrong because I've got the Steph Curry rookie that
- 40:04I paid 800 for. Oh yeah, and that's done well.
- 40:08It's worth 1800 now. I know, and I think you should
- 40:11sell it. And then I also got my Optimus
- 40:14Prime rookie in. Me.
- 40:16That's great. I love.
- 40:16That I mean, I'm a complete degenerate at this point.
- 40:20You are. I like modern a lot.
- 40:23I like modern a lot and I just feel like I want to I want to
- 40:29have more of my childhood athletes represented in my
- 40:33collection. I love vintage.
- 40:36Obviously that's my main thing, but I'm, I'm like, I'm looking
- 40:40and I'm like, OK, I've got multiple Carl Hubble cards, you
- 40:44know, right. But I don't have any Ken Griffey
- 40:49junior cards other than the 89 upper deck.
- 40:52I don't have any Barry Bonds cards.
- 40:55I don't have, I don't have some of these Greg Maddox cards.
- 41:00I mean, you know, Pedro, you know, so I don't know.
- 41:10All right, Well, we're 41 minutes in.
- 41:14This is usually about the time we pull the RIP card.
- 41:16I got to tell you, though, that card, that Optimus Prime Hasbro
- 41:211985 Hasbro card, 85 per Hasbro card.
- 41:25It it brings me a lot. I love it.
- 41:28I love looking at it. Are you going to grade it?
- 41:30You're going to put in a top loader?
- 41:31One. One touch what?
- 41:33It's in a top loader right now. I can't probably a probably a
- 41:38one touch. Yeah, that's what I do.
- 41:42Yeah, that'll be on the pick up video and people are going to
- 41:44go, what is what happened to this guy?
- 41:47And I'm just, I'm just, I'm just trying to collect differently so
- 41:50I can get it back into the Hall of Fame.
- 41:53You know, I I'm trying to switch things up.
- 41:57So all right, buddy, anything, any closing thoughts about
- 42:04anything that we covered today? I don't think so.
- 42:09I'm excited to see what these cards are though.
- 42:11They they are the modern cards. I I probably will.
- 42:15I probably won't win either. There's one that I want, I want
- 42:19and I'm willing to go high comp on.
- 42:22Is it a Matt Manning card? It's not a Matt Manning card,
- 42:26no. But I will say this is my
- 42:29closing thought tomorrow. Tomorrow if you are, because
- 42:36again, this is going to post on Saturday.
- 42:38Tomorrow if you're going to be in Strongsville, I hope that you
- 42:41will check out my Sunday video to access the link to be
- 42:47actually down below. Now I'll put it down below.
- 42:49Down below in today's video, I will post the link.
- 42:52If you're going to be in Strongsville and you want to
- 42:55have my book delivered to you in Strongsville, the form for that,
- 43:01that would be cool. That would make me bring me joy.
- 43:03So even if you don't want it and you just want to send $20.00 so
- 43:07that I think that you want it, that would be good.
- 43:08That would be fine too. Cool.
- 43:11All. Right, bud, off we go.
- 43:14Another one in the books. We're at like 23 or 24.
- 43:17You know, Before you know it, we're going to be at 100.
- 43:20Well, we'll be at our silver anniversary soon with 25
- 43:23episodes. I'll have to send you a spoon or
- 43:26something. See ya, see ya.
