Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey, it's your person, Michelle. Maybe then I'm here and
- 0:06Speaker 1: you might be here too or not. I don't really know,
- 0:10Speaker 1: but if you are, that's nice. Thanks for coming back.
- 0:14Speaker 1: As you know, we're you know, going through given l
- 0:18Speaker 1: anime Given, and so we're gonna do episode three today.
- 0:22Speaker 1: I don't really think there's much I need to talk about,
- 0:25Speaker 1: you know, besides, given, pretty much everything I'm watching this
- 0:28Speaker 1: season is still pretty good. No, I'm sorry, Almost everything
- 0:34Speaker 1: that I'm watching is still really really good, except of
- 0:36Speaker 1: course for try gun Stargaze, which I just totally hate.
- 0:40Speaker 1: But we don't need to go into that. So yay,
- 0:44Speaker 1: let's talk about Given, because that's what you're here for,
- 0:49Speaker 1: right you think this is okay and you wanted to
- 0:52Speaker 1: hear more, I think, I hope, just for you know,
- 0:56Speaker 1: your information. I guess there's no guitar in this episode
- 1:01Speaker 1: at all, Like none of me playing the guitar or
- 1:04Speaker 1: like singing. Not that I sang in the last episode,
- 1:06Speaker 1: but I almost did, and then I cut it out
- 1:08Speaker 1: because it was embarrassing. So you don't have to worry
- 1:13Speaker 1: about that if that's been bugging you. This is, you know,
- 1:15Speaker 1: no guitar show. I kind of miss it. But there's
- 1:20Speaker 1: just nothing to do for it. So yeah. Oh and
- 1:25Speaker 1: before we get truly started, I did want to say
- 1:28Speaker 1: I have been reading ahead in the manga now and
- 1:31Speaker 1: I am just kind of floored at how much of
- 1:35Speaker 1: what we're watching is anime original and I'll try to
- 1:38Speaker 1: point that out while we're going through the episode, but yeah,
- 1:41Speaker 1: I just wanted to say that somewhere. Okay, So given
- 1:46Speaker 1: Episode three is called somebody Else, which is the title
- 1:51Speaker 1: of a song by The nineteen seventy five from their
- 1:55Speaker 1: second studio album called I Like It When You Sleep
- 1:59Speaker 1: for You you Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware of
- 2:02Speaker 1: it Gross, which came out in twenty sixteen. You probably
- 2:08Speaker 1: might be familiar with this song. I don't know song titles,
- 2:11Speaker 1: so I was like, what is this and then I
- 2:13Speaker 1: listened to it and I was like, oh, the song
- 2:15Speaker 1: about that. So I will say right now, I don't
- 2:19Speaker 1: think the song fits this episode. When I originally started
- 2:23Speaker 1: the episode and saw what song it was, I got
- 2:25Speaker 1: excited because I was like, this is perfect, but I
- 2:29Speaker 1: failed to realize that the part of the anime I
- 2:31Speaker 1: was thinking of is not in this episode. So what
- 2:34Speaker 1: I'm trying to say is somebody else is a song
- 2:37Speaker 1: about I guess jealousy. It's about some dude, I guess
- 2:42Speaker 1: the singer maybe, and he is I guess, not in
- 2:46Speaker 1: a relationship with this person anymore. But he just found
- 2:50Speaker 1: out that that person is now in a new relationship
- 2:54Speaker 1: and he's not happy about it. That's basically what the
- 2:58Speaker 1: song is about. It's about like, he doesn't want this
- 3:00Speaker 1: person back, but he also doesn't want them to be
- 3:03Speaker 1: in a new relationship. It pisses them off. So yeah,
- 3:08Speaker 1: it's either about jealousy or about just disliking someone enough
- 3:12Speaker 1: that you don't want good things for them. I'm not
- 3:14Speaker 1: really sure, but either way, it doesn't really work for
- 3:17Speaker 1: this episode except yeah, I don't know, so huh. I'm
- 3:22Speaker 1: interested as to why that was chosen anyway. If you
- 3:25Speaker 1: remember from the last episode, we ended with oh no
- 3:30Speaker 1: Yama asking Mafuyu to join the band after he heard
- 3:34Speaker 1: him sing because it was that good. Yeah, we don't
- 3:39Speaker 1: start there, which is super fucking annoying. We see a gray,
- 3:43Speaker 1: cloudy sky and snow is falling down slowly. We pan
- 3:48Speaker 1: down a city street with cars like waiting for a
- 3:51Speaker 1: red light, you know, to not be read anymore, and
- 3:54Speaker 1: then we see a crosswalk light that's on red, and
- 3:57Speaker 1: we hear mafu You say, I'm not lone. He's waiting
- 4:01Speaker 1: at a crosswalk with like lots of people who have umbrellas,
- 4:04Speaker 1: because I mean, no, I don't think you should have
- 4:09Speaker 1: an umbrella in the snow. Snow is fun and it
- 4:12Speaker 1: should get on you, or you should have a hat
- 4:14Speaker 1: or something. But I guess in Japan, or at least
- 4:17Speaker 1: in this area, everybody has umbrellas to prevent the snow
- 4:22Speaker 1: from falling on them, except for Mafu You. He does
- 4:25Speaker 1: not have an umbrella anyway. This kind of voiceover of
- 4:28Speaker 1: him continues, even though I'll never see you again, He
- 4:31Speaker 1: kind of clutches or hugs his guitar, even though I
- 4:34Speaker 1: still don't have any words. The crosswalk light turns green
- 4:39Speaker 1: and people start to cross, but Mafu You doesn't move yet.
- 4:42Speaker 1: He continues, I'll take the thing you loved with me.
- 4:46Speaker 1: We see his breath condensing in the cold air, and
- 4:50Speaker 1: he starts to walk. We cut to his boots as
- 4:53Speaker 1: he walks, and then to his face. You know, we
- 4:56Speaker 1: see his breath again, and he continues. Story that took
- 5:00Speaker 1: place one winter, A story that took place one morning,
- 5:05Speaker 1: and then we go to the opening theme. Yay, I guess.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Back from the opening theme, we see some like white
- 5:13Speaker 1: buildings hanging around each other and like one of them
- 5:17Speaker 1: has a clock tower, and it's eleven twenty and there's
- 5:19Speaker 1: some trees in the foreground and it is still partly
- 5:24Speaker 1: cloudy out because that is what it is all the time,
- 5:27Speaker 1: except for just that last scene where it was snowing,
- 5:30Speaker 1: and there's like kids sitting on benches like that are
- 5:33Speaker 1: kind of wrapped around trees, like wooden benches around trees,
- 5:37Speaker 1: and then like standing on like what looks like a
- 5:39Speaker 1: big wooden deck of some sort, like a really big
- 5:42Speaker 1: one because yeah, I don't know. Anyway, a bunch of
- 5:45Speaker 1: kids are standing around on this wooden deck like talking
- 5:48Speaker 1: and like groups as you might. And then we panned
- 5:51Speaker 1: to Hodocky, who is leaning on like one of those
- 5:54Speaker 1: little bike racks, or he's kind of sitting on it
- 5:58Speaker 1: like by a fence that also might just be a
- 6:00Speaker 1: bigger bike rack, I'm not really sure, and he's looking
- 6:02Speaker 1: at his phone and we see that on his phone
- 6:06Speaker 1: he has like a text screen open and he has
- 6:09Speaker 1: said I'm at the bike racks on campus. It says
- 6:12Speaker 1: that it's sent at eleven fifty four, so maybe I
- 6:15Speaker 1: misread the clock. And then the other person says, okay,
- 6:20Speaker 1: got it at eleven fifty five, be there in about
- 6:22Speaker 1: ten minutes. And then how dock he says, Roger at
- 6:26Speaker 1: eleven fifty seven, so yeah, I just can't read. I
- 6:28Speaker 1: guess either that or they didn't do the clock right.
- 6:32Speaker 1: How dock. He looks up and he seems kind of annoyed,
- 6:35Speaker 1: and we see the Kaji has pulled up on his motorcycle,
- 6:38Speaker 1: which is red. I thought you should know, and there's
- 6:41Speaker 1: some girl on the back with like long, you know,
- 6:44Speaker 1: dark hair, who we're supposed to know is Yayoi. You know,
- 6:48Speaker 1: we know ya. I'm a sister. So anyway, he pulls
- 6:52Speaker 1: up like the visor that's on his helmet, and I
- 6:54Speaker 1: thought he looked over at Hodokei, but he was really
- 6:56Speaker 1: just looking back at Yayoi and he says, can you
- 6:59Speaker 1: get to and you're always like yeah, Hadoki looks like
- 7:05Speaker 1: I don't know, like maybe he's sick of this shit.
- 7:08Speaker 1: As she like gets off the bike and thanks, Kaji.
- 7:12Speaker 1: Kaji says, your hair's a mess, and he puts his
- 7:14Speaker 1: hand on her head to like, smooth it down. He
- 7:18Speaker 1: needs to control how much he touches people because they
- 7:21Speaker 1: all have crutches on him. I think. Yayoi kind of
- 7:24Speaker 1: gasps as he fixes it, see what I mean? And
- 7:27Speaker 1: Kaji looks up and he sees Howdokei slumped over head
- 7:31Speaker 1: and hands on the bike rack and he says, dook
- 7:35Speaker 1: Haddoki thinks drop dead, you obvious heartbreaker. Yeah. Kaji starts
- 7:41Speaker 1: to walk over to him, and he waves to Yayoi
- 7:44Speaker 1: and says, well, see you later. Ya always like later.
- 7:48Speaker 1: Kaji says, make sure you go to class yeah you
- 7:50Speaker 1: always like yeah. Yeah. Kaji reaches where Haddoki is sitting
- 7:56Speaker 1: still with his head in his hands, and he says, hey, hodoge,
- 7:59Speaker 1: what do you doing? How do? He is like vibrating
- 8:03Speaker 1: just slightly, and Kaji continues, did you see that text
- 8:07Speaker 1: from uey Noyama? How dock? He lifts his head slightly
- 8:10Speaker 1: and he looks sick, like he's got blue lines over
- 8:13Speaker 1: his face. Whatever that's supposed to mean, and he says
- 8:16Speaker 1: I did. Kaji sits down next to him on the
- 8:19Speaker 1: bike rack. He wants to let Mafuyu join the band. Huh,
- 8:24Speaker 1: He's like I figured this had happened eventually, but this
- 8:28Speaker 1: is far more expeditious than I anticipated. Kaji says, what's
- 8:34Speaker 1: with the big words? He takes out a cigarette and
- 8:37Speaker 1: lights it, because that's what he does. How dick. He
- 8:40Speaker 1: finally lifts his head and is like, I figured it
- 8:43Speaker 1: would be after he made more progress with the guitar.
- 8:46Speaker 1: Kaji's like, yeah, I thought so too, So I asked him, why, oh,
- 8:51Speaker 1: there you go communicating? How do? He's like, isn't that
- 8:54Speaker 1: a little mean? You know who? She likes that kid? Oh?
- 8:59Speaker 1: He does. I don't really. I don't think anyone has
- 9:02Speaker 1: ever specifically said that. But okay, and Kaji's like it
- 9:07Speaker 1: just slipped out. He exhales some smoke. He was like,
- 9:10Speaker 1: you'll get it when you hear him. How do? He's
- 9:13Speaker 1: silent for a second and he says, what's that mean?
- 9:16Speaker 1: Now we see an exterior shot of the school. It
- 9:19Speaker 1: is still partly cloudy, and we hear Unoyama say, what
- 9:24Speaker 1: the hell is that supposed to be? Damn it? He
- 9:27Speaker 1: slams his head on a desk on the damn it. Jeez,
- 9:30Speaker 1: he's getting a little bit frustrated here. I liked that
- 9:34Speaker 1: transition between what does that mean, and what does that mean?
- 9:37Speaker 1: Everyone looks over at him. They were in the classroom
- 9:40Speaker 1: kind of cleaning it up and moving desks, and he
- 9:42Speaker 1: was in the middle of moving a desk when he
- 9:44Speaker 1: just shoved his head into it, which was not good.
- 9:47Speaker 1: And he is kind of breathing, like really loudly, like
- 9:51Speaker 1: he needs to get a grip. The guy with the
- 9:54Speaker 1: reddish hair who has a name, which is Ittaya. It
- 9:57Speaker 1: was said once in episode one, but I wasn't sure
- 9:59Speaker 1: it was referring to this guy because I wasn't really
- 10:02Speaker 1: sure who was talking in the episode. But I know
- 10:04Speaker 1: it is him now, so his name is Etaya. So anyway,
- 10:07Speaker 1: he says, what's going on? Uwayo Yama? Everyone has already
- 10:11Speaker 1: gotten back to work, thankfully. I guess maybe he has
- 10:14Speaker 1: these little fits often, and Etaya continues, you've been real
- 10:19Speaker 1: weird lately. Waynoyama lifts up his head slightly and is
- 10:23Speaker 1: like he's the damn weirdo. Etaya looks super concerned, and
- 10:28Speaker 1: Unoyama continues, you know mafu usato, right, Etaya says, yeah,
- 10:34Speaker 1: the guy from class next door Ouyenoyama says, I invited
- 10:37Speaker 1: him to join our band, and he thinks, and yet
- 10:41Speaker 1: that bastard. Wait what. We go to the stairwell windows
- 10:46Speaker 1: and we hear Awaynoyama say you want to join our
- 10:49Speaker 1: band mafoo. You gasps and then looks at the floor.
- 10:54Speaker 1: He like clasps one of his hands over the other
- 10:57Speaker 1: and says, I don't think I should wait what he
- 11:02Speaker 1: turned him down? Uo Yama thinks, huh what why was
- 11:08Speaker 1: that even supposed to mean. We go back to them
- 11:10Speaker 1: cleaning the classroom, and Ittaya says, oh, I get it.
- 11:14Speaker 1: You didn't think he'd reject you? Oh god ou We
- 11:17Speaker 1: know Yama looks over at him angrily, and Etaya's like uh.
- 11:23Speaker 1: And we cuts it to the clock. It's three eleven,
- 11:25Speaker 1: and we hear like something kind of slam, like a
- 11:28Speaker 1: stick slam into something, and we cut back to them
- 11:31Speaker 1: and Ui know Yama is hitting him with like the broomstick,
- 11:34Speaker 1: not like super hard or anything, but he's upset, and
- 11:37Speaker 1: we hear some girls say, come on, you stupid boys. U. No.
- 11:41Speaker 1: Yama is now just kind of like punching Ittaya in
- 11:43Speaker 1: the back, and he thinks, yeah, that's right, I didn't
- 11:46Speaker 1: think he'd reject me. He goes back to sweeping, but
- 11:50Speaker 1: he thinks of Mafu you singing. I mean, he gulps
- 11:54Speaker 1: and tenses up. Damn it, No way in hell, I'm
- 11:58Speaker 1: just gonna give up. Yeah. I mean, normally, when someone
- 12:05Speaker 1: says they don't want to do something, you just aren't
- 12:08Speaker 1: supposed to bother them about it anymore, and you're supposed
- 12:11Speaker 1: to respect their feelings. But okay whatever. That girl with
- 12:15Speaker 1: the shortish brownish hair that we see all the time
- 12:18Speaker 1: is just kind of staring at him. During this, we
- 12:21Speaker 1: see the red crosswalk lights again and Mafoou is waiting
- 12:25Speaker 1: to cross the streets. This is all anime original and
- 12:28Speaker 1: we hear we know Yama say Sato. Mafou looks over
- 12:32Speaker 1: to see no Yama walking up the sidewalk towards him,
- 12:35Speaker 1: and Mafou says, we know, Yama kun, don't you have
- 12:39Speaker 1: worked today? We know? Yama's like, you want to learn
- 12:42Speaker 1: to play guitar? Right, Mafoo. You just kind of blinks
- 12:46Speaker 1: and it's like, yeah, we know. Yama says you're interested
- 12:51Speaker 1: in bands, right, Mafoo. You's like, yeah, we know, Yama says,
- 12:57Speaker 1: and you can sing, right, Mafoo. You is silence ou.
- 13:01Speaker 1: No Yama goes You're supposed to say yeah again. Instead,
- 13:05Speaker 1: Mafuyu looks up and he's like, oh, it's green. Uno
- 13:10Speaker 1: Yama looks kind of comically devastated, and Mafooo points and says, well,
- 13:15Speaker 1: I'm going this way so and he starts to walk
- 13:17Speaker 1: across the street, and we know Yama's just like huh
- 13:21Speaker 1: Mafulu finishes crossing the street and he turns and waves
- 13:24Speaker 1: to Uyenoyama, who is just standing there seething. He's got
- 13:29Speaker 1: to find a better time to talk to him. We
- 13:30Speaker 1: see some apartment buildings at night, and Uleinoyama is sitting
- 13:34Speaker 1: on the floor in the living room looking at his phone,
- 13:37Speaker 1: while Yayoi lies on the couch behind him looking at
- 13:41Speaker 1: her phone. Yay phones. We see that Uyenoyama is staring
- 13:46Speaker 1: at a blank Poyo search like, I guess it's like Google,
- 13:50Speaker 1: but Puyo like a chicken in Spanish. And he thinks
- 13:55Speaker 1: it's not that he doesn't like our band, right, Yeah,
- 13:57Speaker 1: it's a scary feeling when someone might not like your band.
- 14:00Speaker 1: I get it. He thinks of Mafoyu practicing at the
- 14:03Speaker 1: studio and then saying he had fun after and then
- 14:06Speaker 1: he thinks, I mean that's what he said. He's typing
- 14:12Speaker 1: bondo how to invite in Japanese into poyo. Now I
- 14:16Speaker 1: could only read Bondo because it's literally bound. The other
- 14:20Speaker 1: stuff is who knows what it is? I mean someone
- 14:23Speaker 1: who can read Japanese does. But the translation says how
- 14:27Speaker 1: to invite, so I believe them. The screen of his
- 14:31Speaker 1: phone shakes slightly with his frustration and he looks up
- 14:36Speaker 1: and he's like, hey, Yayoi. Yayoi's like, hmm, we know.
- 14:41Speaker 1: Yama says, how do you keep getting a hold of
- 14:45Speaker 1: Kaji sent even though he dumped? And he gets hit
- 14:47Speaker 1: in the face with a pillow and falls over, probably
- 14:50Speaker 1: dramatically because it didn't look like the pillow really hurt.
- 14:53Speaker 1: Now we see kids walking into school and Mafoyu is
- 14:57Speaker 1: walking in slowly too, and then he stopped and we
- 15:00Speaker 1: see that Wueno Yama is resting against some lockers in
- 15:05Speaker 1: front of him, looking at his phone. That's what we're
- 15:07Speaker 1: doing in this episode, looking at phones. Mafu You says,
- 15:11Speaker 1: Wayna Yama kun Waa. Yama looks up and is like, yo, Mafo.
- 15:16Speaker 1: You walks over and says morning, what are you doing?
- 15:20Speaker 1: We know Yama's like, huh nothing. It kind of looks away.
- 15:24Speaker 1: Mafu You says, oh, by the way, thanks for lending
- 15:28Speaker 1: me that guitar book. He takes off his guitar and
- 15:30Speaker 1: leans down. You can have it back now. I guess
- 15:33Speaker 1: he's getting it out of like the pouch in his
- 15:35Speaker 1: case or something. We know. Yama's like, Oh, it's not
- 15:38Speaker 1: like I'm gonna use it anytime soon, so you can
- 15:40Speaker 1: just hang on to it. I mean, he looks at
- 15:43Speaker 1: his phone. On his phone, the screen says how to
- 15:47Speaker 1: ask someone out even after they've rejected you once. No,
- 15:53Speaker 1: the important part is to remain composed. Try to remember
- 15:57Speaker 1: back to when you first asked them out. Did you
- 16:00Speaker 1: ask them without even thinking about how they'd feel? Right? First,
- 16:04Speaker 1: show them how relaxed you are by talking about something
- 16:07Speaker 1: like click here for more details. This is all anime
- 16:13Speaker 1: original Ouio. Yama thinks what's important is to hermain Come,
- 16:18Speaker 1: it's not the same thing, so it starts with me.
- 16:22Speaker 1: He takes a deep breath and then exhales, I think
- 16:27Speaker 1: our band is pretty awesome. He's such a mess. Mafu
- 16:31Speaker 1: you looks kind of confused because this is weird. Ou know.
- 16:35Speaker 1: Yama's like, I've been in a few other bands, but
- 16:37Speaker 1: this one's the easiest to play in. That's the point.
- 16:41Speaker 1: The bell rings and Mafou starts to look around like
- 16:44Speaker 1: he doesn't know what to do because he's got to
- 16:46Speaker 1: go to class. And I totally understand this feeling. And
- 16:50Speaker 1: this doesn't even kind of slightly phase Wuno Yama, Like,
- 16:54Speaker 1: I don't think he even realizes it happened, because he
- 16:57Speaker 1: continues Kaji San and Hanukis are both super skilled people
- 17:02Speaker 1: are like running to make it to class now, and
- 17:05Speaker 1: Lafuyu is not feeling confident about his chances. And Uoyama continues,
- 17:11Speaker 1: I mean they like to mess around sometimes, but they're
- 17:13Speaker 1: actually serious when it counts. We've been an instrumental band
- 17:17Speaker 1: this whole time. Oh, instrumental means a Mafuu's like oino Yama.
- 17:22Speaker 1: Kun ouyeno Yama says, h Lafu's like, can I go
- 17:26Speaker 1: get the class records now? I have class duties today?
- 17:31Speaker 1: Yeah again. Ouio Yama looks kind of comically devastated by this.
- 17:36Speaker 1: You've got to pay attention to what's going on with
- 17:37Speaker 1: the other person, dude. You can't just say a bunch
- 17:40Speaker 1: of things. When the bell rang already and he realizes
- 17:43Speaker 1: that and he kind of steals himself and he says
- 17:46Speaker 1: go ahead. Mafoyu says sorry, see you later, okay, and
- 17:51Speaker 1: he walks away. Oo Yama sighs, I guess we can
- 17:55Speaker 1: talk about it at lunch. We see the windows of
- 17:58Speaker 1: the stairwell. It is super bright outside, so we can't
- 18:01Speaker 1: even see anything through them, and we see that uino
- 18:04Speaker 1: Yama is sitting alone on the landing with his arms crossed,
- 18:08Speaker 1: and we go to black and then we hear a slam,
- 18:11Speaker 1: which is uino Yama. He is slammed open Mafuyu's class
- 18:14Speaker 1: door like it's a pocket door, so it slams into
- 18:17Speaker 1: the pockets. Yay. I've done this before once and no
- 18:21Speaker 1: one was excited about it, and I felt really stupid afterwards.
- 18:25Speaker 1: So he's in the doorway and he's like, aren't you coming.
- 18:29Speaker 1: Mafuyu is at his desk and he says, I forgot
- 18:31Speaker 1: to do my homework. Uio Yama slumps forward, maybe with rage,
- 18:35Speaker 1: I wasn't sure. And then we hear a bell and
- 18:38Speaker 1: we see the class two nine sign and we hear
- 18:41Speaker 1: a voice say, Sato, there's a kid standing in the
- 18:43Speaker 1: doorway with Uino Yama in front of him, and the
- 18:46Speaker 1: kid says, he went home already. Yeah, he's not doing
- 18:51Speaker 1: too well. We cut to the studio exterior and we
- 18:55Speaker 1: hear Hadopi laughing, and then we see inside the studio
- 18:59Speaker 1: where Hadoukei is just laughing wildly as Kaji is like
- 19:02Speaker 1: trying not to chuckle, but he kind of almost is.
- 19:05Speaker 1: And o. We know Yama looks pissed. How do Ki
- 19:08Speaker 1: says that's hilarious and he's laughing so much that he
- 19:12Speaker 1: starts to cough because he's a smoker. Kaji's like, come
- 19:16Speaker 1: on stop, how do he cannot stop? And He's like sorry.
- 19:20Speaker 1: Kaji is still kind of trying not to laugh, and
- 19:22Speaker 1: he says, oh, he's gonna get mad. We know Yama's like, oh,
- 19:26Speaker 1: shut up already. How Dooki is still laughing. We know
- 19:30Speaker 1: Yama looks around and he says, and he didn't even
- 19:33Speaker 1: show up? Is he avoiding me? It kind of feels
- 19:35Speaker 1: like that's what's happening. You are being real weird. Oh no, no,
- 19:39Speaker 1: he had a job interview today. We know Yama's like, huh,
- 19:43Speaker 1: how did you know that? How Dooki says what he
- 19:47Speaker 1: texted me. He puts his hand on his chin. What
- 19:50Speaker 1: could it be the you don't have Mafuyu's contact information? Uechi?
- 19:55Speaker 1: O know, Yama just kind of stares at him blankly.
- 19:58Speaker 1: Kaji kind of glance is over at him, and we
- 20:01Speaker 1: know Yama kind of mechanically sort of it's really weird
- 20:05Speaker 1: shaky movements, kind of turns his head to the side
- 20:08Speaker 1: to look at Kaji and he makes kind of like
- 20:11Speaker 1: augh noise, and Kaji says, I don't have it. We
- 20:17Speaker 1: see one are the amps in the practice space. We're
- 20:19Speaker 1: kind of panning down on it so we don't have
- 20:21Speaker 1: to see them talk. And how do he says, So
- 20:24Speaker 1: Mafu is doing what we asked him to. They're all
- 20:27Speaker 1: just kind of sitting on the floor. How do he continues,
- 20:29Speaker 1: He's been pretty serious about finding a job. This is
- 20:32Speaker 1: also he can keep making music. We know, Yama says,
- 20:35Speaker 1: So Kaji and how Doki kind of look at each
- 20:39Speaker 1: other and sigh. And how Doki says, Uechi, did you
- 20:43Speaker 1: actually ask Mafu you why? We know Yama's like, huh,
- 20:49Speaker 1: how do he says, when you were wondering why he declined,
- 20:52Speaker 1: did you think to actually ask him we know Yama
- 20:57Speaker 1: is silent for a moment, and then he kind of
- 20:58Speaker 1: gasps how to sighs. He didn't even bother to get
- 21:02Speaker 1: his number. You should probably hear him out. Yeah, Kaji
- 21:07Speaker 1: says music is all about communication. For some reason, they're
- 21:11Speaker 1: saying communication in English in this episode, I worry about
- 21:14Speaker 1: you sometimes. OI know. Yama makes like a pain sigh
- 21:19Speaker 1: and then we see Kaji and how do He's smoking
- 21:22Speaker 1: on a bench which I thought was outside, but it's
- 21:24Speaker 1: actually in the hallway, which is gross. How Doki says,
- 21:28Speaker 1: do you think I said too much? He crosses his arms.
- 21:30Speaker 1: I mean, I know, we know Yama is trying his best,
- 21:33Speaker 1: but he kind of like grumbles a bit. Kaji kind
- 21:38Speaker 1: of like starts to muss Haddaki's hair, which catches him
- 21:42Speaker 1: really off guard. And when he stops, how dog, he
- 21:44Speaker 1: blushes and he's like, what the hell? Kaji just kind
- 21:48Speaker 1: of chuckles because I think he just might be totally oblivious,
- 21:52Speaker 1: and how dook he continues, ugh huh. He's incredibly flustered.
- 21:58Speaker 1: At this point. Kaji's like, get a grip. You're everyone's
- 22:01Speaker 1: big brother, right. He stands up and starts to walk.
- 22:04Speaker 1: Come on, let's head home. Cheez Hodoki thinks there's no way.
- 22:08Speaker 1: Aki goes two years younger than me. Kaji presses the
- 22:12Speaker 1: down button for the elevator so they can go down,
- 22:15Speaker 1: and he looks at these two keys he has on
- 22:18Speaker 1: a keychain in his hand. Yay. Now we go to
- 22:22Speaker 1: a train station. I guess it's like outside of the
- 22:26Speaker 1: train station, like it looks like it. There's an elevated
- 22:28Speaker 1: line above this street or something. And it's night, so
- 22:32Speaker 1: I think it's the same night. And uino Yama is
- 22:35Speaker 1: walking looking at the ground. Maybe just coming out of practice,
- 22:38Speaker 1: I assume. And he thinks back on Mafuyu's surprised face
- 22:42Speaker 1: when he asked him to join the band, and he
- 22:44Speaker 1: stops walking and he says communication again in English. He
- 22:49Speaker 1: takes a sharp breath and turns around. Go to the
- 22:52Speaker 1: eye catch yay. We see a city street at night now,
- 22:57Speaker 1: and then we cut to a room with lockers and
- 22:59Speaker 1: like a TV and a jube box and tables and chairs,
- 23:02Speaker 1: some sort of multipurpose room. I don't know. Mafou is
- 23:06Speaker 1: sitting with two people at a table and he is
- 23:09Speaker 1: facing us, but the two people are facing, you know,
- 23:12Speaker 1: the other way. So we can't really see what they
- 23:14Speaker 1: look like. And one of them is a guy I
- 23:17Speaker 1: guess with like longish grayish hair maybe, and he says, okay,
- 23:21Speaker 1: you'll start here next week. Wow he got a job.
- 23:25Speaker 1: Mafou bows and is like, thank you very much. We
- 23:28Speaker 1: hear the guy say, Subaki, son, can you take care
- 23:30Speaker 1: of the rest, and we hear a girl say sure,
- 23:34Speaker 1: sato kun Mafu. You looks up and he sees a
- 23:37Speaker 1: woman with short brown hair standing in front of him,
- 23:40Speaker 1: who I guess is Subaki, and she says, want to
- 23:44Speaker 1: take a look inside if you have some time. Now
- 23:47Speaker 1: we see a desk with like magazines below it's maybe
- 23:50Speaker 1: they're for sale or something, and like a beverage fridge
- 23:53Speaker 1: behind it, and a sign on the wall that says
- 23:55Speaker 1: no re entry, and we hear Subaki say, this is
- 23:59Speaker 1: the reception desk. You hand out and accept tickets here.
- 24:02Speaker 1: Now we see the table and the jukebox again, chie contenuse,
- 24:06Speaker 1: you'll be mostly cleaning it. First. We see doors to
- 24:10Speaker 1: a room with lots of posters, and Subaki says, but
- 24:15Speaker 1: it's dangerous around the stage because of all the equipment.
- 24:18Speaker 1: I mean, I guess you could trip. Now we see
- 24:20Speaker 1: a stairwell with purplish light, just full of posters. I
- 24:24Speaker 1: guess we're heading down towards the stage or something. Subaki continues,
- 24:28Speaker 1: so you'll be cleaning the other areas until you get
- 24:30Speaker 1: used to it. Mafui's like, okay. We see now a
- 24:34Speaker 1: set of two green double doors, and one of them opens.
- 24:38Speaker 1: We see Subaki and Mafuu you on the other side.
- 24:40Speaker 1: And then we see a stage with drums on it
- 24:44Speaker 1: and like amps, and there's like two people bending down
- 24:48Speaker 1: doing stuff on the stage like texts. I guess. Subaki says,
- 24:52Speaker 1: if there's a show where alcohol isn't served, we'll have
- 24:55Speaker 1: you work the bar too. Now we cut to a
- 24:57Speaker 1: laptop placed on a soundboard. These are all like still shots.
- 25:01Speaker 1: By the way, a mufful who says the bar. We
- 25:04Speaker 1: see a wooden bar surface yay Zubaki places her hand
- 25:08Speaker 1: on it and says, this is the bar counter and
- 25:11Speaker 1: bar is in English. Huh, you hand out drinks here.
- 25:15Speaker 1: You also get a really good view of the stage
- 25:16Speaker 1: from here. Mufflou stares at the stage and one of
- 25:21Speaker 1: the guys is like fucking around with a mic stand
- 25:23Speaker 1: now and Subaki says, if you ever get a show here,
- 25:26Speaker 1: let me know, and we'll give you a bit of
- 25:27Speaker 1: a discount. Hmm. I want to talk about that, but
- 25:31Speaker 1: let's just wait until the end, because I am not
- 25:34Speaker 1: usedtabbing to pay for shows. We hear a door open
- 25:37Speaker 1: and we hear a guy say hey. Subaki looks over
- 25:40Speaker 1: and there's this dude with like kind of his hair
- 25:44Speaker 1: is like in a ponytail, but it's like shaved down
- 25:46Speaker 1: the side. He's got like dark brown hair and really
- 25:48Speaker 1: thick black glasses, and he's wearing a black hoodie. He's
- 25:51Speaker 1: like peeking into the room, and he's my favorite person
- 25:52Speaker 1: in the whole world. Subaki says, take chan yay. Taki's like, oh,
- 25:57Speaker 1: he finally sees them because they're like on the side
- 25:59Speaker 1: of the room. I came to talk to you about
- 26:01Speaker 1: the show. Sabaki's like, oh sure, and walks towards him.
- 26:05Speaker 1: Mafu you just kind of stares at the guy who's
- 26:08Speaker 1: messing with a mic stand now for just like a
- 26:10Speaker 1: really really long time. That's uncomfortable. Sort of. Now we
- 26:14Speaker 1: see Mafo you exiting the building from above. We're looking
- 26:18Speaker 1: down on him. I assume this is the building because
- 26:20Speaker 1: it doesn't have a sign. Or anything, and he stops.
- 26:23Speaker 1: He sees Uo Yama leaning against the like railing for
- 26:27Speaker 1: train tracks which are kind of running parallel to this streets,
- 26:30Speaker 1: and he's looking down and Mafou says, ou we know
- 26:33Speaker 1: Yama kun uina Yama looks up and is like, oh,
- 26:37Speaker 1: mafoou walks over. Oua Yama says, so you had an interview.
- 26:41Speaker 1: Maful's like yeah. Ua Yama says, uh, so how to go?
- 26:49Speaker 1: Mafoo you says, they asked me to start next week.
- 26:52Speaker 1: Ouina Yama's like, oh, he thinks, I guess he had
- 26:56Speaker 1: at least some social skills if you manage that. Then
- 27:00Speaker 1: loud he says uh, and then he thinks communication communication
- 27:07Speaker 1: out loud. He's like, so, uh, you poor guy. Then
- 27:12Speaker 1: we hear someone say mafo you. Mafulu turns slowly and
- 27:17Speaker 1: there's this dude with brown hair that's got like blonde
- 27:19Speaker 1: tips on it, and he has got a guitar case
- 27:22Speaker 1: on his back too, and he's standing like maybe a
- 27:25Speaker 1: yard away from them, and he just looks like kind
- 27:29Speaker 1: of shocked, and he says again, mafoo you. We cut
- 27:33Speaker 1: back to Mafoou. We get a close up of just
- 27:36Speaker 1: like one of his eyes and part of his mouth.
- 27:38Speaker 1: His eyes just wide and his mouth is open slightly,
- 27:41Speaker 1: and he just looks so terrified. Oh, I know. Yama
- 27:45Speaker 1: sees Mafuu's reaction and he turns to look at the
- 27:48Speaker 1: other guy and he's like, huh, We're now seeing maful
- 27:53Speaker 1: kind of his side profile, but like he's just kind
- 27:56Speaker 1: of slightly in frame and very close up, so we're
- 28:00Speaker 1: just seeing kind of the bottom of his face and
- 28:01Speaker 1: the top of his torso he's kind of on the
- 28:03Speaker 1: left side of the screen, and he starts to kind
- 28:06Speaker 1: of back away out of the frame. The guy is sweating,
- 28:11Speaker 1: and he's like, what what are you doing. We cut
- 28:16Speaker 1: to Mafuyu's boots as he takes a step back, and
- 28:20Speaker 1: guy says, you just fell off the face of the earth.
- 28:25Speaker 1: Mafulu's foot slides back further. He's clearly getting ready to run.
- 28:30Speaker 1: Guy says, hey, wait a second. Mafuyu is continuing to
- 28:35Speaker 1: make these little cautious steps backwards, his eyes wide. He
- 28:39Speaker 1: looks like a really scared rabbit. You know, like, if
- 28:42Speaker 1: you've ever tried to approach like a rabbit outside, if
- 28:46Speaker 1: you have those where you live, and you think it's
- 28:48Speaker 1: really cute and you want to go see it. When
- 28:50Speaker 1: you start getting too close, it will just freeze and
- 28:53Speaker 1: just stare at you like it's just getting ready to
- 28:56Speaker 1: run because you know you're dangerous. Not really, you just
- 29:00Speaker 1: want to hug it, but it doesn't know that, and
- 29:02Speaker 1: also maybe he doesn't want to be hugged. But anyway,
- 29:05Speaker 1: that is exactly what Mafluu looks like. Basically, he is
- 29:09Speaker 1: just preparing to run. And the guy says, what the
- 29:13Speaker 1: hell that thing on your back? Fuck? Ou know. Yama
- 29:18Speaker 1: looks at Mafuo, who is still backing up, and says,
- 29:20Speaker 1: what you know this guy? The guy says, is that
- 29:25Speaker 1: you he's guitar? Fuck wu know. Yama makes some sort
- 29:29Speaker 1: of confused noise, and the guy says, are you playing
- 29:34Speaker 1: music now? Maflou is now just totally frozen, and we
- 29:40Speaker 1: cut to black, and then we cut back and we
- 29:43Speaker 1: see one of his boots slide back another step and
- 29:47Speaker 1: he thinks, I never know I'm supposed to react, and
- 29:52Speaker 1: then to black, and then to his boots as he pivots,
- 29:56Speaker 1: and then to black and we hear him think at all.
- 30:00Speaker 1: We cut back to his boots kicking off the ground
- 30:03Speaker 1: as he just bolts Ooh, I know, Yama looks so
- 30:07Speaker 1: fucking surprised. We got to black again and we hear U,
- 30:10Speaker 1: we know Yama, say Sato. We have a quick first
- 30:14Speaker 1: person perspective of mafuy running down the streets, and then
- 30:18Speaker 1: we cut to his boots and he thinks everyone else
- 30:22Speaker 1: can manage it so well. And it's important to say
- 30:25Speaker 1: that while Mafui is running, the only sound we have
- 30:28Speaker 1: in this episode besides what he's thinking, is his boots
- 30:31Speaker 1: just hitting the pavement. It's fucking perfect. We cut to
- 30:34Speaker 1: a black and white image of people sitting in a group.
- 30:38Speaker 1: Looks like they're at a funeral. They're all kind of
- 30:40Speaker 1: out of focus except for Mafuyu, who is lit differently
- 30:44Speaker 1: and he looks just flat and solemn, and we hear
- 30:48Speaker 1: him say, but I can't we see his face now
- 30:53Speaker 1: as he's running. Then we cut to him laying in
- 30:56Speaker 1: bed covers like wrapped up around him, maybe looking at
- 30:59Speaker 1: his phone. He continues, just like how everyone laughs and cries.
- 31:04Speaker 1: He pulls the blanket over his face. We cut to
- 31:07Speaker 1: three guys standing together in like a little circle with
- 31:10Speaker 1: guitars on their backs, so two of them are kind
- 31:12Speaker 1: of standing like perpendicular to him, Like we're seeing their profiles.
- 31:16Speaker 1: Oh right. One of them has a drum instead of
- 31:18Speaker 1: a guitar on the back, like a snare or something.
- 31:20Speaker 1: The one in the middle has his back to the camera.
- 31:22Speaker 1: Mafou is standing there kind of behind them, just kind
- 31:25Speaker 1: of looking on and we cut to black again and
- 31:28Speaker 1: we hear muffle you say, I just can't do it. Well.
- 31:33Speaker 1: We hear uino Yama say, Sato. We cut to his
- 31:37Speaker 1: profile as he runs, He's like trying to catch up. Now, hey, Sato.
- 31:42Speaker 1: We now see that Kaji is sitting on his bike
- 31:45Speaker 1: kind of parked, taking off his helmets close by, and
- 31:48Speaker 1: he's like hmmm. He turns. We hear uino Yama say,
- 31:52Speaker 1: are you listening? Damn it? Mafulu is still running. His
- 31:56Speaker 1: head is down so we can't see his expression, but
- 31:58Speaker 1: I assume it's not good. And uino Yama's like, Sato,
- 32:03Speaker 1: mafoo you. He reaches out and grabs his arm. It's
- 32:07Speaker 1: kind of cool that he called him his like given name.
- 32:10Speaker 1: There they both stop totally out of breath and they're
- 32:15Speaker 1: just silent for a while in this position, trying to
- 32:17Speaker 1: catch their breath, which I really liked thought it added
- 32:21Speaker 1: some I don't know, like a really nice sense of
- 32:24Speaker 1: reality to this that they're just like there's a lot
- 32:26Speaker 1: to say, but they're exhausted. First finally, Uinoyama says, Mafo you.
- 32:33Speaker 1: He pulls his arm closer to him, and Mafuu turns,
- 32:36Speaker 1: and uino Yama gets a good look at him and
- 32:39Speaker 1: let's go of his arm and is like, are you crying?
- 32:42Speaker 1: He kind of bends down because remember Mafou is kind
- 32:45Speaker 1: of hunched over, and he brushes Mafuu's bangs like away
- 32:49Speaker 1: from his eyes so he can see his expression, and
- 32:52Speaker 1: Mafou is not crying, but he just looks like incredibly hurt.
- 32:56Speaker 1: He shakes his head. No. Uino Yama thinks, what's with
- 33:00Speaker 1: that face? The wind kicks up and rustles through the trees,
- 33:06Speaker 1: and Uainayama says, are you okay? What's up with that guy?
- 33:10Speaker 1: Who's Yuki? Mafuyu is just silent and still Uinoyama continues,
- 33:18Speaker 1: is it something you can't tell me? It's just silence?
- 33:23Speaker 1: Wuinoyama says, does this have something to do with why
- 33:26Speaker 1: you don't want to join the band? Mafoyu shakes his
- 33:29Speaker 1: head now and says, no, it doesn't. Ouenayama's like, then
- 33:34Speaker 1: why Mafou is silent for a second, and then he says,
- 33:39Speaker 1: if you're in a band, you have to express yourself
- 33:41Speaker 1: in front of people, right. People always tell me that
- 33:44Speaker 1: I look like I'm not thinking about anything, and sometimes
- 33:50Speaker 1: I think they might be right. Oh God, I think.
- 33:56Speaker 1: He looks up at Ouainoyama. I'm really bad at expressing
- 33:59Speaker 1: my self compared to everyone else. Fuck. Uinoyama is just
- 34:06Speaker 1: staring at him at this point and thinks, what the
- 34:09Speaker 1: fuck mafu you continues so he looks off to the
- 34:14Speaker 1: side again. Ouinoyama thinks, I can actually feel my blood
- 34:19Speaker 1: beginning to boil. Mafu He looks down again, so I
- 34:24Speaker 1: we cut to Ouinoyama's tightened, shaking fist, and then he says,
- 34:31Speaker 1: you idiots. He steps forward and grabs a very confused
- 34:36Speaker 1: Mafu you by the collar. Are you shitting me right now?
- 34:40Speaker 1: There's no way you're not thinking about anything. He takes
- 34:43Speaker 1: a breath and kind of calms down. You're not good
- 34:45Speaker 1: at expressing yourself. The whole reason I invited you into
- 34:49Speaker 1: our band. He like really pulls him in now and
- 34:51Speaker 1: takes a breath is because your song shook me to
- 34:54Speaker 1: my core. Geez Ouinoyama is now breathing really hard, because
- 34:59Speaker 1: it is hard. It's hard to say that kind of
- 35:01Speaker 1: shit to someone. Mafu You just stares at him in
- 35:04Speaker 1: total shock, and then his face kind of morphs and
- 35:08Speaker 1: he looks like he's like really about to cry, like
- 35:11Speaker 1: tears are starting to wel in his eyes. O. We know.
- 35:14Speaker 1: Yama thinks, how could you say something like that with
- 35:16Speaker 1: such a pained look on your face? Oh my god.
- 35:20Speaker 1: He finally calms down and releases Mafuu's shirt and says, Lafu,
- 35:25Speaker 1: you sing for me. I like that song too. Mafuyu
- 35:32Speaker 1: is quiet, and then he starts to sing Ou I know.
- 35:36Speaker 1: Yama puts his hand over his face and he looks
- 35:39Speaker 1: just exhausted, and he thinks, ever since I met you,
- 35:43Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure I've been a complete mess. Mafou is
- 35:46Speaker 1: still singing, and U I know Yama thinks, shit, it hurts.
- 35:52Speaker 1: We pan down the street and see that Kaji is
- 35:54Speaker 1: standing kind of behind the vending machines, listening as he smokes,
- 35:59Speaker 1: and he thinks, well, I definitely didn't expect this, and
- 36:04Speaker 1: we slowly fade to black. Okay, I want to stop
- 36:07Speaker 1: there real quick because I got really excited, but I
- 36:11Speaker 1: didn't explain why. So we just heard Mafo you say
- 36:16Speaker 1: that he didn't feel like he was good at having
- 36:19Speaker 1: emotions basically, and that upset Uyenoyama because obviously Mafo you
- 36:26Speaker 1: looks like he's having an emotion right now. He looks real,
- 36:29Speaker 1: real sad, So uh, what are you talking about? Basically?
- 36:35Speaker 1: So when Uinnoyama was thinking like, how could you say
- 36:38Speaker 1: something like that with such a pained look on your face,
- 36:42Speaker 1: I was like, is this a Banana Fish reference? Because
- 36:46Speaker 1: if you remember from Banana Fish, if you were with
- 36:49Speaker 1: me for Banana Fish, the main character doesn't think he
- 36:55Speaker 1: has emotions, like he thinks that he's a monster because
- 37:00Speaker 1: he doesn't feel anything when he kills people basically, and
- 37:04Speaker 1: when he says that, he is crying, and my reaction
- 37:08Speaker 1: to that was just like, what do you mean you
- 37:10Speaker 1: don't have emotions? You're crying? So I was like, huh,
- 37:14Speaker 1: that really reminds me of Bananafish, even though the characters
- 37:16Speaker 1: are different, it's kind of a similar, like you expressing
- 37:20Speaker 1: an emotion and saying that you don't think that you're
- 37:22Speaker 1: good at expressing emotions or you don't have them. So
- 37:25Speaker 1: I got real excited, and then I got even more
- 37:28Speaker 1: excited because I remember that the mangaca like said banana
- 37:33Speaker 1: fish was one of her influences. So it is a
- 37:35Speaker 1: banana fish reference. Yay. There should be confetti and it
- 37:39Speaker 1: would come down and it would say like Michelle got
- 37:41Speaker 1: a banana fish reverence, right, I would be so happy.
- 37:46Speaker 1: So anyway, I just wanted to tell you that because
- 37:48Speaker 1: I got to tell someone who doesn't think I'm crazy.
- 37:51Speaker 1: Not that you don't think I'm crazy, but maybe one
- 37:54Speaker 1: of you somewhere doesn't think I'm crazy. Maybe, or even
- 37:59Speaker 1: if you do, I can't hear you say you're crazy,
- 38:02Speaker 1: like towards your whatever you're listening to this on. But anyway,
- 38:07Speaker 1: if you are listening to this and you're like, oh,
- 38:10Speaker 1: I don't even know what banana fish is, maybe you
- 38:12Speaker 1: should look into it. Anyway, let's continue with the episode.
- 38:17Speaker 1: We see some people standing in line, like partially out
- 38:21Speaker 1: of a door into the sidewalk area, so I'm thinking
- 38:24Speaker 1: it's at a venue, and there's like a sign next
- 38:27Speaker 1: to it that says today's events. Mixed Model twenty nineteen
- 38:31Speaker 1: in English. Now we see inside where like there's lots
- 38:35Speaker 1: of people talking. It's really crowded. This is definitely a venue.
- 38:38Speaker 1: And there's this guy with like brown hair walking through
- 38:42Speaker 1: the crowd and he looks over and he sees the
- 38:45Speaker 1: kid with the blonde tipped hair who just basically destroyed Mafuyu,
- 38:49Speaker 1: sitting alone at a table, looking like real bummed. He
- 38:53Speaker 1: walks over and he says, Hiragi, Hiragi. The guy with
- 38:57Speaker 1: the blonde tips is just silent and we can't see
- 39:00Speaker 1: his eyes, and this guy's like, what's up. Kiragi looks
- 39:05Speaker 1: up and he says, jess, assume me I saw Mafu. Oh.
- 39:10Speaker 1: Now we see a street light and we hear a
- 39:12Speaker 1: beep of like the vending machine, and then an orange
- 39:17Speaker 1: soda can lying in like the bottom part of the
- 39:19Speaker 1: vending machine where you take out the things whatever that's
- 39:22Speaker 1: called wuaya Yama takes it and walks to a bike
- 39:27Speaker 1: rack where Mafou is sitting and he holds it out
- 39:30Speaker 1: to him and he's like hmmm, and he sits down.
- 39:34Speaker 1: Mafoo looks up and Ouya Yama like puts it in
- 39:38Speaker 1: his hand and maful you says thanks. He stares at
- 39:42Speaker 1: it for a while and then it is like, but
- 39:45Speaker 1: I can't drink fizzy drinks. This is anime original too,
- 39:50Speaker 1: by the way. Wuna Yama's like, uh. He looks at
- 39:54Speaker 1: the coffee that he got for himself and he holds
- 39:56Speaker 1: it towards Mafou, like offering it to him, but obviously
- 39:59Speaker 1: he can't do words right now. Mafou shakes his head
- 40:03Speaker 1: and oh you know, Yama just kind of rubs his
- 40:05Speaker 1: neck and makes a bunch of I don't know what
- 40:07Speaker 1: I'm supposed to say or do right now, noises Mafoous
- 40:11Speaker 1: like it's okay, and it's silent again. Oh we know.
- 40:15Speaker 1: Yama looks at Mafou, who is still pretty clearly distraught,
- 40:22Speaker 1: and he starts to drink his coffee, and Mafou says,
- 40:26Speaker 1: are you sure you're okay with me? We know? Yama
- 40:29Speaker 1: glances at him and says, how many times do I
- 40:32Speaker 1: have to say? Yes? Mafuyu's like, I'll do it. I
- 40:37Speaker 1: want to join your band yeay? Oh we know, Y'ama
- 40:40Speaker 1: looks shocked. We see Mafoyu is looking at him very
- 40:44Speaker 1: sweetly actually, and he says, I look forward to working
- 40:47Speaker 1: with you yea. We get the title card number three
- 40:52Speaker 1: somebody else. Then we get the ending theme hooray, and
- 40:56Speaker 1: then I thought that would be the end, but it
- 40:57Speaker 1: wasn't the end. We see a tile floor. It looks
- 41:01Speaker 1: like it's kind of at the front of a house,
- 41:02Speaker 1: you know, it's like style, and then there's like a
- 41:05Speaker 1: transition to a green carpet, and we see two pairs
- 41:08Speaker 1: of shoes, one that is red high heels and one
- 41:10Speaker 1: that is boots, sitting there like this is the area
- 41:13Speaker 1: you take off your shoes in a Japanese house. And
- 41:16Speaker 1: we hear a door open and we see some shoes
- 41:19Speaker 1: with beating them step in and Ohio Yama takes off
- 41:24Speaker 1: his shoes. They're his shoes, and he runs down the
- 41:27Speaker 1: hall past the living room where a Yeyoi is laying
- 41:30Speaker 1: on the couch as she always does apparently, and she's like,
- 41:34Speaker 1: you're so freaking loud. Pipe down. Ouino Yama turns the
- 41:38Speaker 1: light on his bedroom and throws his jacket on the
- 41:40Speaker 1: bed and he takes a twenty nineteen July burst Jamada
- 41:45Speaker 1: music lesson maybe book off like a bookshelf, and then
- 41:49Speaker 1: we see just his hand like looking at the bookshelf.
- 41:52Speaker 1: Like he's trying to locate something, and then he pulls
- 41:55Speaker 1: out song Door magazine. Okay, he opens a where he
- 42:00Speaker 1: has many different color guitar picks a pen and cleaning
- 42:04Speaker 1: cloths for like a guitar, and I think like some
- 42:06Speaker 1: strings in the back we cut to his floor as
- 42:09Speaker 1: he tosses a pad of pink posted notes and a
- 42:11Speaker 1: memo pad onto it, and there's already like some line
- 42:15Speaker 1: paper and some other kind of pad on the floor.
- 42:18Speaker 1: He plugs his instrument cable into his Marshal MG one
- 42:22Speaker 1: oh one FX amp, which is a real amp and
- 42:24Speaker 1: it was only made from twenty nineteen to twenty twelve.
- 42:27Speaker 1: And then we see him sitting on the floor with
- 42:30Speaker 1: his guitar, his headphones on paper like split out in
- 42:35Speaker 1: front of him. He makes some kind of face and
- 42:38Speaker 1: he starts to bend down like he's getting real fucking serious. Now, yeah,
- 42:44Speaker 1: I guess maybe, And that's the end of the episode. Hooray.
- 42:48Speaker 1: I think closing thoughts, there are some things I wanted
- 42:51Speaker 1: to talk about in this episode, Yay, So let's see.
- 42:55Speaker 1: I think, first of all, the thing that I kind
- 42:57Speaker 1: of alluded to at the beginning of the episode is
- 42:59Speaker 1: a lot of this is anime original, like half of
- 43:02Speaker 1: the episode is, and I don't think it's like coming
- 43:07Speaker 1: from like an omake or something, you know, like a
- 43:10Speaker 1: extra thing. I haven't found any of that yet. I mean,
- 43:13Speaker 1: there are omake and some of the stuff the click
- 43:15Speaker 1: that comes from extras, but we have like whole new
- 43:18Speaker 1: scenes that are not coming from the manga. The manga
- 43:21Speaker 1: moves really really fast. And I don't mean fast because
- 43:24Speaker 1: things are always happening. I mean fast. We just go
- 43:26Speaker 1: through everything like quickly like in the manga, as far
- 43:31Speaker 1: as I can tell. And I kept rereading it because
- 43:34Speaker 1: I was like, you're kidding, right, It doesn't look like
- 43:36Speaker 1: maf where you ever accepts the invitation to join the band.
- 43:40Speaker 1: It's just in the band now. I don't understand. It's
- 43:42Speaker 1: just like it was said off camera at some point,
- 43:45Speaker 1: which is weird to me because it seems like it's
- 43:47Speaker 1: a big deal. So really, the changes that the anime
- 43:51Speaker 1: made I actually really like, especially that scene with them,
- 43:56Speaker 1: you know, sitting on the bike rack at the very end.
- 43:59Speaker 1: I thought that was really good. I also thought it
- 44:02Speaker 1: was really interesting that they just added the whole thing
- 44:04Speaker 1: with uy no Yama trying to talk to Mafuu about
- 44:08Speaker 1: joining the band, like pretty much any scene where he
- 44:12Speaker 1: was like, hey, Mafu, you I want you to join
- 44:14Speaker 1: the band, but I don't have time to tell you
- 44:16Speaker 1: because you have to do something now, like where Mafuu
- 44:19Speaker 1: started to walk away from him because he was crossing
- 44:21Speaker 1: the street, or when the bell rang. That's all anime original.
- 44:25Speaker 1: I like it because I thought it was funny, and
- 44:26Speaker 1: I loved the idea that he basically couldn't find anything
- 44:30Speaker 1: on the internet that would help you convince someone to
- 44:33Speaker 1: join your band after they said no, so we just
- 44:36Speaker 1: started looking for our relationship advice. Thought that was great
- 44:39Speaker 1: for so many reasons. Yeah. No, but it's important to
- 44:43Speaker 1: say that if somebody tells you they don't want to
- 44:45Speaker 1: be in a relationship with you or band, you just
- 44:48Speaker 1: need to leave them the fuck alone. Now, it's a
- 44:51Speaker 1: little bit different in this case, obviously, because Mafu doesn't
- 44:54Speaker 1: think he's good enough to be in the band. It's
- 44:55Speaker 1: not that he doesn't want to, so I guess it's
- 44:59Speaker 1: fine to keep bothering him about it. But yeah, don't
- 45:03Speaker 1: do that when you're interested in someone romantically. It's weird
- 45:06Speaker 1: and mean. People want to tell you the truth so
- 45:10Speaker 1: just so you should assume that if someone tells you
- 45:13Speaker 1: know about something, that that is the truth. I don't know,
- 45:17Speaker 1: don't bother people if they've already told you know. It's
- 45:19Speaker 1: what I'm trying to say. But the other thing that
- 45:24Speaker 1: that bunch of stuff did that I didn't really like
- 45:28Speaker 1: is that it did kind of make it look like
- 45:29Speaker 1: Mafu you was avoiding Oinoyama, which in the manga it
- 45:32Speaker 1: really doesn't look like that. The only thing we have
- 45:35Speaker 1: is Mafuu saying I'm not going to join the band
- 45:38Speaker 1: and then him missing the next practice, which he did
- 45:41Speaker 1: because he had a job interview. But yeah, in the anime,
- 45:45Speaker 1: it kind of looks like he is avoiding having the
- 45:47Speaker 1: conversation with him. I know the timing isn't right, but
- 45:50Speaker 1: he could have waited to cross the street until the
- 45:52Speaker 1: next green light. You know. That wasn't that big of
- 45:56Speaker 1: a deal. I don't know. So, yeah, that's all going on.
- 46:00Speaker 1: What else do we got? So? I also wanted to
- 46:03Speaker 1: bring up that I said earlier. There was like a
- 46:06Speaker 1: spot where that girl who was working for the venue
- 46:10Speaker 1: who has a name, Oh, her name is the same
- 46:13Speaker 1: name as my favorite character in Windbreaker, Subaki, So Subaki
- 46:19Speaker 1: had said that like, oh, you know, let her know
- 46:22Speaker 1: if the band is going to play there, because she'll
- 46:24Speaker 1: give them a discount. So I wanted to come back
- 46:26Speaker 1: to that because I looked into that because hearing that
- 46:30Speaker 1: they have to pay to you know, have a show there,
- 46:32Speaker 1: I was like, Oh, is just Japan doing the pay
- 46:35Speaker 1: to play model? So yeah, it is. It looks like
- 46:38Speaker 1: as far as I could figure, all venues, like kind
- 46:42Speaker 1: of small venues like that in Japan where you just
- 46:44Speaker 1: have like a you know, maybe like two hundred max
- 46:47Speaker 1: capacity or something, you know, like a little venue, they're
- 46:50Speaker 1: all pay to play. And what pay to play is
- 46:52Speaker 1: is exactly what it sounds like it is, right. It's
- 46:55Speaker 1: not good in my opinion. It's the venue gives you tickets,
- 46:59Speaker 1: your band toickets, and you have to sell them. They
- 47:02Speaker 1: give you, i don't know, like twenty tickets or thirty
- 47:04Speaker 1: tickets or fifteen who knows. It probably depends on the venue,
- 47:07Speaker 1: and you got to sell them. And if you don't
- 47:09Speaker 1: sell them, you have to pay the venue what you
- 47:13Speaker 1: didn't make basically for them. And in Japan you don't
- 47:17Speaker 1: ever get paid, like even if you were to sell
- 47:19Speaker 1: more tickets or people were to come to the show
- 47:22Speaker 1: specifically for you. After you sold all the tickets that
- 47:24Speaker 1: you said that you would, you still don't get paid,
- 47:28Speaker 1: which sucks. It sucks, and maybe that is why you
- 47:32Speaker 1: need to have a job if you're in a band
- 47:34Speaker 1: in Japan. So yeah. Oh, and the way you get
- 47:38Speaker 1: a show at a venue apparently is either you audition
- 47:41Speaker 1: for them, get thrown on a show and you pay
- 47:44Speaker 1: to play, or you rent out the venue, which would
- 47:47Speaker 1: probably cost more money. So uh, kind of sucks. You
- 47:52Speaker 1: can't have a booking manager or something. It's like not
- 47:56Speaker 1: a thing in Japan, so that's what they do. I
- 47:58Speaker 1: also couldn't find any evidence that there were like actual
- 48:01Speaker 1: DIY underground shows. Every time I looked into that, these
- 48:04Speaker 1: just kind of what they're called is live houses, they
- 48:07Speaker 1: popped up as like, oh, that's where you listen to
- 48:09Speaker 1: underground music, Like that wouldn't be underground music by my standard.
- 48:13Speaker 1: If you have something at like a legit music venue
- 48:17Speaker 1: like these live houses, that's not underground, that is on
- 48:21Speaker 1: the ground, even if it's in a basement as many
- 48:23Speaker 1: of these are, it is still a legal operating venue.
- 48:27Speaker 1: That's not what I think of underground. I'm thinking underground
- 48:30Speaker 1: like house shows, like just in some dude's house, or
- 48:34Speaker 1: in a basement that is part of some dude's house,
- 48:37Speaker 1: or under an overpass for some reason that just has power.
- 48:41Speaker 1: So I couldn't find any evidence that that's happening in Japan,
- 48:44Speaker 1: which made me kind of sad. How is any of
- 48:47Speaker 1: this different than what we would do in the US.
- 48:49Speaker 1: For music, there's absolutely venues in the US that you
- 48:52Speaker 1: pay to play. I think it sucks. I've done it
- 48:55Speaker 1: once or twice, but I don't I'm not good at
- 48:59Speaker 1: selling pickets. People don't want to buy tickets from me
- 49:02Speaker 1: because I'm scared of them, so it's hard for me
- 49:05Speaker 1: to tell them that I have tickets. But I don't
- 49:08Speaker 1: know what I'm trying to say. So a lot of
- 49:11Speaker 1: times in the US, if you're playing in a very
- 49:13Speaker 1: small band, like at a small venue or a coffee
- 49:17Speaker 1: shop or somebody's house, you're kind of waiting for the
- 49:21Speaker 1: door to make back their money, and then if they do,
- 49:23Speaker 1: you will get paid a percentage of the rest kind
- 49:27Speaker 1: of so you would make some money, which is why
- 49:30Speaker 1: you might not need a part time job if you're
- 49:33Speaker 1: doing well enough. That is so Yeah, now you know
- 49:36Speaker 1: a little bit about that. I think unless you didn't
- 49:38Speaker 1: understand any of the things I said, which you might
- 49:41Speaker 1: not have because I don't know how I was explaining it.
- 49:44Speaker 1: But if you did, yay. And if you didn't and
- 49:46Speaker 1: you want to ask me questions, you totally could. I
- 49:50Speaker 1: might know the answer to them, or I might be wrong,
- 49:53Speaker 1: and then you would spread that wrong information to other
- 49:55Speaker 1: people and that might not be great. So I don't
- 49:58Speaker 1: know what I want you to get out of that. Yay.
- 50:01Speaker 1: The last thing I wanted to talk about is just
- 50:03Speaker 1: the whole scene with Kiragi confronting Mafuu, which is kind
- 50:09Speaker 1: of the big important scene in this episode. It kind
- 50:14Speaker 1: of hurt me a bunch obviously. First of all, Mafu
- 50:18Speaker 1: you really just looked so shocked and scared in a
- 50:23Speaker 1: way that really did remind me of a rabbit, like
- 50:26Speaker 1: just kind of like the frozen posture and slight movements
- 50:29Speaker 1: backwards preparing to like just run for it and hope
- 50:34Speaker 1: that you're going to survive. It's exactly the same, and
- 50:37Speaker 1: it made me sad. And obviously we don't know who
- 50:42Speaker 1: Yuki is, but he pretty much infer that the guitar
- 50:48Speaker 1: that Mafo you has is or was Yuki's, because pretty
- 50:52Speaker 1: sure Yuki's dead because we saw Mafu. You see a
- 50:55Speaker 1: dead person who was hanging in the first episode, and
- 50:58Speaker 1: it could be that Yuki is so someone else, but
- 51:01Speaker 1: that seems unreasonable and unlikely, so we don't know who
- 51:05Speaker 1: he is. We just know he's an acquaintance of Maflu
- 51:07Speaker 1: and Hiragi and that Mafuu has been kind of just
- 51:11Speaker 1: Mia for a while and we don't know why. But
- 51:15Speaker 1: I assume none of this is good. Normally, when you
- 51:18Speaker 1: see someone and then they confront you about why you
- 51:21Speaker 1: have Yuki's guitar and then you run from them, it's
- 51:26Speaker 1: not a good thing. So I'm really interested, I mean metaphorically,
- 51:32Speaker 1: that's not how you use metaphorically, but whatever, because I
- 51:35Speaker 1: already know what happens, but I'm really interested to see
- 51:38Speaker 1: where this goes because it's probably not gonna be good.
- 51:42Speaker 1: And then, of course, the whole thing about Mafou feeling
- 51:46Speaker 1: like he doesn't know how to express his emotions and
- 51:50Speaker 1: he's not sure he thinks about anything, just like really
- 51:53Speaker 1: really hurt me. I don't know characters that have trouble
- 51:57Speaker 1: expressing their emotions or don't feel like they're expressing their
- 51:59Speaker 1: emotions correctly. That always, like really hits me because I
- 52:03Speaker 1: kind of feel like that myself a lot. I don't know,
- 52:05Speaker 1: and I could go more into that, but I just
- 52:08Speaker 1: kind of wanted to put it out there that, like,
- 52:11Speaker 1: I mean, obviously Muffou has emotions, not just from what
- 52:17Speaker 1: we've seen from him singing, which is just him singing,
- 52:21Speaker 1: but also you know, from how he's reacted when he's
- 52:25Speaker 1: seen the guys you know, play their music, and from
- 52:30Speaker 1: this scenario where he just looks hurd and terrified, it's
- 52:36Speaker 1: obvious that something's going on in there, and it's obvious
- 52:39Speaker 1: that he has thoughts and feelings. And it really sucks
- 52:43Speaker 1: to be told that the way you're expressing your emotions
- 52:48Speaker 1: isn't good enough, or that you don't look like you're
- 52:52Speaker 1: thinking about anything. And yeah, I've I get it, so
- 52:57Speaker 1: like say that to people because it's like, hey, it's
- 53:00Speaker 1: not true, and yeah, it's just mean, and yeah, I've
- 53:07Speaker 1: totally had that happen before. Yeah, I once told someone
- 53:10Speaker 1: that I was really upset about how our relationship ended,
- 53:14Speaker 1: which yay, it ended because I wasn't really working out
- 53:16Speaker 1: because I'm not really interested in people. But I just
- 53:22Speaker 1: kind of said, like, I was hurt by what the
- 53:24Speaker 1: person had said to me, and their response was that
- 53:27Speaker 1: they didn't know that I had feelings, and yeah, that
- 53:31Speaker 1: really hurt. So you don't say that to people. Also,
- 53:37Speaker 1: you know, you are you just you know, speaking to everybody,
- 53:41Speaker 1: and your emotions and the way that you express them
- 53:45Speaker 1: are totally fine and normal and valid. I mean, unless
- 53:48Speaker 1: you're killing people, which you're probably not right, or like
- 53:52Speaker 1: doing things that other people don't consent to to them.
- 53:55Speaker 1: I think you're good with the way that you're reacting
- 53:57Speaker 1: to things. It's okay to feel the way that you've
- 54:00Speaker 1: you know, and it's okay if you're expressing it differently
- 54:04Speaker 1: than you think you're supposed to. If you are reacting
- 54:09Speaker 1: in a bigger way then people think you should, or
- 54:13Speaker 1: reacting in a smaller, quieter way, that's okay. The main
- 54:18Speaker 1: thing is that you're being honest with yourself about how
- 54:21Speaker 1: you feel and that you are not stifling how you feel.
- 54:26Speaker 1: But you don't have to have big reactions to be
- 54:31Speaker 1: honest about them and to express the way that you feel.
- 54:34Speaker 1: So yeah, I just I wanted to put that in there,
- 54:37Speaker 1: you know, so, and I'm sure you know all that stuff.
- 54:41Speaker 1: You don't need to hear it from me. You don't
- 54:43Speaker 1: even know me. But yeah, I'm rooting for you, I think, Yeah, no, totally,
- 54:51Speaker 1: but uh, I don't know that's that's really the lot
- 54:56Speaker 1: of it. But yeah, I it's always weird when I
- 54:59Speaker 1: have a character that res with me because I don't
- 55:01Speaker 1: have a lot of them, which you may or may
- 55:03Speaker 1: not have noticed going through this podcast with me. So yeah,
- 55:08Speaker 1: it just it just really upset me to hear him
- 55:10Speaker 1: say that. But it's nice that of course he's got
- 55:13Speaker 1: oh you know Yama there who knows that's not true?
- 55:16Speaker 1: So again running back with the banana fish theme there,
- 55:20Speaker 1: but you know that makes me happy. And then the
- 55:24Speaker 1: last thing I want to say is that it's interesting
- 55:26Speaker 1: to have a character that's like, I don't think I
- 55:28Speaker 1: can express myself, so I shouldn't be in a band. Yeah,
- 55:31Speaker 1: it's true playing music has to do a lot with
- 55:34Speaker 1: expressing yourself, but it usually uses an outlet to express yourself.
- 55:39Speaker 1: So if you're not expressing yourself in your daily life
- 55:42Speaker 1: in the way that you want to, that doesn't mean
- 55:45Speaker 1: you wouldn't be good at doing it through music at all.
- 55:47Speaker 1: In fact, it probably means the opposites. So it's interesting
- 55:51Speaker 1: to have someone say like, oh, I can't play music
- 55:54Speaker 1: because I'm not good at expressing myself. It's like, that's
- 55:56Speaker 1: what that's for. Im off of you, That's exactly what
- 55:59Speaker 1: that's for. It'll be interesting to see how he uses
- 56:01Speaker 1: music to express himself. Yeah, okay, I think that's pretty
- 56:05Speaker 1: much it. I hope you're liking this. Okay. Again, I
- 56:09Speaker 1: know it's a big departure from what we've done, so
- 56:12Speaker 1: I hope you're liking it. Part of me is now like,
- 56:15Speaker 1: should we just do Bochee the Rock next to see
- 56:18Speaker 1: how they compare with how well they represent people in
- 56:21Speaker 1: bands and have another character that makes me feel like
- 56:26Speaker 1: I relate to myself. I don't know if I'm really
- 56:27Speaker 1: gonna do that, but I'm thinking about it now. Sorry,
- 56:31Speaker 1: So anyway, I'm going to go and do something else
- 56:36Speaker 1: that is probably less interesting than this, unless this wasn't interesting,
- 56:41Speaker 1: and then maybe now that means the other thing is
- 56:43Speaker 1: even less interesting than this was, which is sad, I guess. Anyway,
- 56:49Speaker 1: I hope you have a really good whatever. And I'm
- 56:52Speaker 1: still working to remove the hiss sound in the podcast,
- 56:55Speaker 1: so I'm very sorry. If it's still there when you
- 56:57Speaker 1: hear this. But yeah, I will see you next time.
- 57:01Speaker 1: I probably later webs
