- 0:01Welcome to Rick and That Michelle Chick, the weekly
- 0:05podcast where your hosts, Rick and Michelle, confidently dive
- 0:10into topics they know absolutely nothing about and somehow make
- 0:15it sound legit. They're not experts.
- 0:17They're not qualified. Honestly, they barely googled
- 0:20it. So grab a drink, lower your
- 0:23expectations, and let's pretend this counts as content.
- 0:28So buckle up. Facts are optional, but the
- 0:31bullshit? That's premium grade.
- 0:34This is Rick and that Michelle chick.
- 0:41I did see that Robert Redford passed away.
- 0:44Yep, very, very sad. One of the the greats.
- 0:47One of the one of the last of the greats I guess of of
- 0:50Hollywood. Which I tried to think back if
- 0:54I've ever seen an actual movie that he's been in, I'm sure I
- 0:58have, you know, maybe when I was younger, but I, I honestly don't
- 1:02remember. And I think growing up I would
- 1:05always confuse him with Paul Newman for some reason.
- 1:07So easy. Yeah, both, both legendary, both
- 1:10great. So indecent proposal is Robert
- 1:14Redfern OK? OK, I did see.
- 1:16That's Robert Redfern. OK, I knew, you know that one.
- 1:18I knew if I dropped that one, a great one with Michelle Pfeiffer
- 1:21is called up close and personal where they're both they're both
- 1:25competing at ATV radio TV station as as reporters.
- 1:29That's in the that's in the middle 90s, a great one called
- 1:33sneakers, Butch Cassidy, the Sundance Kid, there's a bunch of
- 1:36the early Robert Redferns. That's, you know, all the
- 1:38president's been. I mean, they, he was, he was
- 1:41definitely he's like Dustin Hoffman, he's like Michael
- 1:44Douglas. I mean, he's he's that level to
- 1:47where that he's considered one of the greats.
- 1:50Rain, yeah. No, boy, I mean, I mean the, the
- 1:55we were talking off microphone before we started the the
- 1:57podcast was what's really changed, I think in theaters is
- 2:02it's so rare that a name packs a theater anymore.
- 2:07And people like Robert Redfern or John Wayne or Julia Roberts
- 2:11or Denzel Washington back in the day, name value alone, even on a
- 2:16bad movie, could pack a pack a movie.
- 2:18Theater. The Cary Grants of the World.
- 2:20Right. And so, so I, I put Robert
- 2:23Redford in that. I think Tom Cruise for me is
- 2:25like, I, I think Tom Cruise is really the last.
- 2:28They're saying he's kind of the last of the movie stars to where
- 2:31people go to see, I'm going to go see a Tom Cruise movie.
- 2:33Not going to go no matter what it was so a.
- 2:37List of the movie. Yeah, Jack Nicholson would be in
- 2:39that those. Yep.
- 2:41But but now you're not even guaranteed because of streaming
- 2:44all that's available to everybody now you're not
- 2:46guaranteed a billion dollar movie.
- 2:49So if it's a Pedro Pascal, you're saying you're not
- 2:51guaranteed? I know you're, I know you're a
- 2:53big fan of Pedro Pascal, but I've watched several movie
- 2:57reviewers talk about, let's say the Fantastic Four movie that
- 2:59came out or different movies he's been in.
- 3:02And, and she was talking about the fact that we've taken people
- 3:06like, let's say Pedro Pascal or Chris Evans or Chris Hemsworth,
- 3:10and we've tried to make them into that next marquee, you
- 3:14know, and, and the interesting thing they discovered, at least
- 3:17with the Chris Evans and the Chris Hemsworth is outside of
- 3:20Marvel, Robert Downey Junior, outside of Marvel, people don't
- 3:23go see them in their independent films.
- 3:26Yeah, so they could just a regular movie, Yeah, even like a
- 3:30ROM com or something with them in it.
- 3:32People wouldn't go see. Yeah.
- 3:33Same as Pedro Pascal because I think he had two movies out at
- 3:36the same time and the same month.
- 3:38So like 3 movies out. Yeah, yeah.
- 3:41And, and each of them did different according to to who
- 3:44was going to go see, who's going to go see those movies.
- 3:45So, but Robert Redfern back in the day, he was one of those
- 3:49guys that that people would go to see and he was in a Marvel
- 3:52movie. He was in Captain America, he
- 3:54was the, he was one of the directors of SHIELD, if you're
- 3:56just curious about that. And he's a great actor.
- 3:59He's a great actor and there's a lot of great movies from him.
- 4:01So sad to see they passed away. Yeah, definitely.
- 4:04Also another passing was Charlie Kirk.
- 4:08This. Charlie Kirk and and I know we,
- 4:11you know, it's one of those things where I purposely have
- 4:13tried to stay off social media because of it.
- 4:14I don't know about Michelle. Again, I'll say this as you
- 4:20know, basic as I can, nobody, nobody deserves to die.
- 4:24But before for their beliefs and and their freedom of speech.
- 4:27You are, you are allowed to say whatever you think you want to
- 4:32say. Consequences.
- 4:34That may be a different argument for a lot of people.
- 4:37I just know that it's one of those things where I, I, I'm
- 4:42really torn up on it because on one hand, I just want to, I just
- 4:45want to get off social media because it's so venomous out
- 4:49there on, on, and I'm going to say it bluntly on both sides.
- 4:52But definitely, yeah. And, and The thing is, a lot of
- 4:55people don't realize that you've got extremes on both sides,
- 4:59whether you're a extreme Democrat or you're extreme
- 5:01Republican. And there's a bunch of us that
- 5:05are down the middle. And so I don't we, we try not to
- 5:08talk about politics on this, you know, because it's just I.
- 5:10I have a little bit. A little bit I don't like again,
- 5:13I just so my foster mom, this I, I, I, my foster mom when I was a
- 5:18young kid, it was she was very, she was religious, religious,
- 5:23but I never heard them talk about politics.
- 5:25And so in her mind with me as a little kid was I don't, she
- 5:29didn't care what your politics were.
- 5:30She didn't really care what how you know religion is.
- 5:32It's like you're going to be a good person.
- 5:34That's it. That's.
- 5:34What I was going to say, as long as you're a good person.
- 5:38I remember asking my grandma one time who she voted for and she
- 5:42said, you know, that is my own personal.
- 5:45I like that. Thing and I am not going to
- 5:48share that with you. Like I regard it as something
- 5:51sacred almost is kind of how she described it.
- 5:54And so I. Can't.
- 5:56Yeah. So I've kind of tried to carry
- 5:58that on if people will ask me, well, who did you vote for?
- 6:03And that's basically my response.
- 6:05That's a personal sacred thing that I value that I don't really
- 6:09want to share with you because usually when you do say who you
- 6:13voted for, then it's like, well, why did you vote for them?
- 6:15Why? You know, you have to justify
- 6:17it. Why I like?
- 6:19It shouldn't have to be that way.
- 6:21And that's what I want to bring up too, is like, why do I have
- 6:23to defend myself number one to complete strangers?
- 6:27I, I think that, that, I think that's the, I think that's the
- 6:30double edged sword of the social media is it's like, and it was
- 6:34interesting. A Co worker came in, Co worker
- 6:37came in the, the morning of and we were on the air.
- 6:40We did not talk about it on the country station cause the top of
- 6:42the hour news had it. And Patty and myself just said,
- 6:45hey man, let's just not touch it.
- 6:46It's not worth it. It's really, I mean, it's hard
- 6:49in radio. I think we've talked about that,
- 6:50you know, the 9 elevens and you, you have to acknowledge it, but
- 6:55you. Can't and then we're there,
- 6:56bring it and then we're there. We're there to play music.
- 6:59I look at it like, Hey, I'm on a I'm on a music station.
- 7:01So it's not that you don't want to mention it or that it's not
- 7:03important or that you don't have views on it, but it's like, if
- 7:05that's not what we're there for now, if you're on our sister
- 7:07station, Kona AM or KIT in Yakima, they're going to talk
- 7:11about that. And on a music station, it's
- 7:14just something we we kind of avoid.
- 7:15But I know a Co worker came in on that morning and he had said
- 7:19as he and we were on the air little after 7, he came in and
- 7:21goes, he goes, Oh, my heart, my heart is heavy, you know, about
- 7:25the shooting. And and he's a conservative.
- 7:28He goes, I'm a conservative. And you know, I'm really
- 7:29heartbroken about that. And I said, well, I said, I'm
- 7:31sorry, I'm sorry on the loss. And I just I kind of just
- 7:35forewarned him. I said, I just want to forewarn
- 7:38you that, you know, that we may not line up.
- 7:42We may not line up politically. I didn't say anything bad.
- 7:47Well, no, you mean. That and I and and I said I'm
- 7:51more frustrated. I'm more frustrated for us that
- 7:54that's down the middle. So you and I've talked a lot
- 7:56about about that I would be considered and I will just said
- 7:59I'm considered a Blue Dog Democrat.
- 8:02Yeah. So there are things about there
- 8:03are things about the Republican platform that I like death
- 8:06penalty. You already know how I feel.
- 8:07About that are down the middle. Right.
- 8:09A lot of America is I'm a death penalty guy, Second Amendment.
- 8:13I grew up on a ranch. I grew up with with a shotguns
- 8:17in the back of a truck. Now where I draw the line in,
- 8:20in, in arms and all that is what level does is someone allowed to
- 8:24have what's this? What's an appropriate level?
- 8:27Does someone need an AK, you know, AK17 or under 15 or
- 8:31whatever to go shoot an elk or something?
- 8:33So there's. They're not though, because they
- 8:35you can't hunt with that, right? But, but so, yeah, so, so to me,
- 8:39there's these levels, I'm not trying to control it.
- 8:41I'm just saying, yes, I, I think you have the right to bear arms.
- 8:44I do believe in that. I also believe in the 1st
- 8:45Amendment, Hey, it's your freedom of speech now.
- 8:48You're not free from consequences.
- 8:49So what's interesting right now is a lot of people are losing
- 8:51their jobs. That's why I didn't want to
- 8:53dwell. I didn't want to dwell too deep
- 8:54into it because it's like, if my bosses are listening to this
- 8:57podcast, they could go, well, Rick da, da, da, da.
- 9:00And so it's like, I, I need, I need the paycheck.
- 9:03So it, it's just the reality of, you know, that's why I, that's
- 9:08why I didn't, I didn't want to touch on it too much, but but I
- 9:11really worry for the people and even from the Republicans that
- 9:14are, are down the middle too. Not, not every Republican is
- 9:17extreme. Not every Democrat is not every
- 9:19independent is extreme. You got it on both sides.
- 9:21And how can we come together and, and make the whole country
- 9:26a better place? And why, why does it have to be
- 9:28so tribal? People treat it like it's like
- 9:31it's sports. Yes, like you're, if you're not
- 9:34a Seahawks fan, you're a piece of crap.
- 9:35Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, you're allowed to like other teams.
- 9:38What what I mean so and? The The funny thing is, if we
- 9:43actually do sit down and talk to each other, we have way more in
- 9:46common than any of us even realize we do.
- 9:51And if we just sat down and really talked to each other and
- 9:54listened and it wasn't, oh, well, you're this and you're
- 9:58that. So I hope you die.
- 10:01Or because I've heard people on the other side say that about my
- 10:05view that people like me should die.
- 10:08And so that's how can, how can you rationalize and talk to
- 10:14someone who thinks that way about you because of your
- 10:18belief? I, I thought about it one time
- 10:21as I was sitting in the studio was thinking about, you know, on
- 10:24either side. Let's say, let's, let's say
- 10:26there was Democrats outside and they were beating the living
- 10:28crap out of Republican, you know what I'm saying?
- 10:30And, and only because of their views, not any other reason
- 10:32would, would you intervene and go, hey man, break it up.
- 10:35And that's, and that's on the flip side of a Democrat getting
- 10:38the crap kicked at him by, you know, 4 massive Republican guys
- 10:42on, on both sides. My my foster mom would not allow
- 10:46either like like Pearl would have stepped in and.
- 10:50She would have. Shut that shit down.
- 10:53She would shut that shit down. And what's amazing about my
- 10:56yeah, what's amazing about my foster mom is besides me, they
- 11:00they had six kids. They have three boys and three
- 11:04girls. They're all politically
- 11:06diametrically different. So it's interesting growing up
- 11:11on the ranch, growing up on the ranch, they are politically
- 11:14different and they love each other and they get along and
- 11:17when they get together for family dinner, they don't talk
- 11:20about it. Great.
- 11:21They don't, you know, they know where everybody.
- 11:23They know where everybody stands.
- 11:24A great example, my foster brother Doug, lives in Riggins,
- 11:27Idaho. He's got a he's got a cattle
- 11:28ranch. He's a Republican, which is
- 11:31fine. My foster sister, Kathy, lives
- 11:33in Baker City. She's a retired school teacher.
- 11:35So which way is she going to lean?
- 11:37And her, her and her husband and all of them, including Doug and
- 11:42Debbie and Gary and all of them are the most wonderful people
- 11:46I've ever met in my entire life. And I never once thought being
- 11:50their foster brother, that they that they would judge me by my
- 11:53political leanings or which way which way I go.
- 11:56And I've said this multiple times.
- 11:59I flipped. I flipped.
- 12:01I grew up in the Lewis Clark Valley.
- 12:03I remember that my first job was shovelling manure for my, my
- 12:09school counselor and Mr. Mr. John Rollins, who basically
- 12:11saved my life from the Wallaces, gave me a part time job on
- 12:15Saturday mornings shovelling manure.
- 12:17And it's funny, we would sit down at lunch and we would talk
- 12:20about the things of the day. And I was probably, what, 161516
- 12:23years old? And he was a staunch Democrat.
- 12:27And at the time, I was a staunch Republican because I was
- 12:31influenced by Michael J Fox, Alex B Keaton.
- 12:33I mean, I, you know, you're a kid, number one, you're 15.
- 12:36No life experience. Right.
- 12:38You're a kid. You're a kid.
- 12:40You're 15-6 years old. And so we would sit there.
- 12:42We would sit there and we would, we would talk the discussion of
- 12:45the day. One of the most fascinating
- 12:47things I, I, I, I want to tell you about John, Mr. Rollins is,
- 12:52and I learned his back story. He was a Catholic priest for 20
- 12:57years and he gave up his faith and became an atheist.
- 13:02And I thought that was most fascinating.
- 13:04And I asked him and I asked him why.
- 13:06And he goes, well, I fell in love.
- 13:08And so his wife Gina was a nun. So, so for 20 years he was a
- 13:14Catholic priest. Gina was a nun.
- 13:16They fell in love and and by the time I had met them, they had
- 13:20been married 20 plus years and he'd been an educator for 20
- 13:22plus years. So when I met Mr. Rawlins, he's
- 13:24probably 75 years old. So I thought, I absolutely
- 13:28thought that's that love story was fascinating.
- 13:30I thought to myself, what made him like literally lose faith?
- 13:34Because remember, we talked about that I'm an agnostic,
- 13:37which means I, I neither disbelieve nor do I, I don't
- 13:40know. I just don't know the answer and
- 13:42it's not and it's not worth me. It's not worth me getting in a
- 13:45fight with a stranger about it because it's it's like you said
- 13:49and a religion I really believe is personal.
- 13:52Mm hmm. Yeah.
- 13:53And and why do you and why do we have to defend that to anybody?
- 13:56Well, because it's out there on social media now where before it
- 14:00wasn't, you know, you didn't know every little last detail
- 14:03about somebody. You know what they were having
- 14:05for dinner that night because that's social media now.
- 14:08You know anything and everything about somebody and now it's in
- 14:10your face sometime. Yeah.
- 14:12And so I'm very, I was very influenced by John and Gina when
- 14:15I learned, when I heard their love story.
- 14:17And I went and I went. The Catholic faith would not let
- 14:21Mr. Rollins marry. And I went I, I, I go like this.
- 14:26I can't be a part of something that would take that from
- 14:29somebody or want to take that from somebody.
- 14:32So and so it's funny looking. And sadly, John and Gina have
- 14:36passed away many, many years ago.
- 14:38They'd be laughing right now if they knew.
- 14:40But the, you know, that after that, I, I made the big, I made
- 14:44the big flip. But again, it's not the big flip
- 14:46because like you said, we have more in common than what you
- 14:49think. There are things from both
- 14:51parties that, that, that I take from it.
- 14:54I voted, I voted for Bush. I voted for Clinton.
- 14:57I voted for Obama. I mean, I I voted for Bush
- 15:01Senior, but my first time I got to vote, I did not vote for
- 15:05Dukakis. No new taxes.
- 15:06Right. I, I did not vote for Dukakis
- 15:08because I was a Ronald Reagan fan.
- 15:10So and so, but, but I look at, but I look at John McCain,
- 15:15Republicans like John McCain. I look, they're not extremists.
- 15:18They're not. They are and I would I would
- 15:21always. I love that.
- 15:22I love that great video where the the one the John McCain
- 15:25video where he's talking about Obama and the lady's like he
- 15:28he's illegal. He wasn't born here.
- 15:30Muslim. Or whatever she said to.
- 15:32John McCain. John McCain said it exactly how
- 15:36I believe. He's like, no, ma'am, we
- 15:38disagree on the fundamentals of running the country, but he is a
- 15:42good person and I, and these are the things that that I that I
- 15:46inherently believe. So I didn't mean to get off on
- 15:49it because I just felt like we had to talk about, about the
- 15:52situation, but it made me I for the first time, and you know,
- 15:56you know me, I've always been an optimist.
- 15:58I truly, I truly believe in the good of people.
- 16:02I believe the majority of people are good.
- 16:05And I sat on the a couple days after that, sad, that sad
- 16:08situation, I sat on my back porch with my dogs and I went.
- 16:12And for the first time in my entire life, I went.
- 16:15You know what? Logan's right.
- 16:16Why did I bring him into this world?
- 16:18Oh goodness. So I so I had that.
- 16:21I had that. Have you ever had that thought?
- 16:22I mean, I know you have 4 wonderful kids.
- 16:24They're all incredibly successful, but but my brain
- 16:27just went because my son always brings up that argument with me
- 16:30all the time. Like, why did you bring me into
- 16:32this world? Dad and and I, I always try to
- 16:36have an answer like, hey man, while you're here, you can make
- 16:39a difference. I mean, you know, because you
- 16:41know, dead post society is my favorite movie Carpa diem seats
- 16:44the day B you know, it doesn't matter where you come from.
- 16:48You, you have the opportunity to be more or to leave something to
- 16:53to to to help the world in some way.
- 16:55And for that one moment on my back porch, I went, man, I don't
- 16:59have the answers at all. I right, which I my kids aren't
- 17:04really they don't ever they've never said anything like that to
- 17:08me. Like oh, why would you bring me
- 17:10into this world? I personally in my mind think
- 17:14OK, what what kind of future or what is this world going to look
- 17:18like in 20-30 forty years? Take my grandchild.
- 17:23What, what does their world look like?
- 17:27And they are an infant that worries me and scares me more, I
- 17:32think, than what they even realized.
- 17:34And and they, and they might not voice it to me.
- 17:36I don't know. They could think those things,
- 17:38but they've never, you know, said that to me.
- 17:42But that's where. I sit with all of it.
- 17:45Yeah, well, and that's why Logan is refusing to give me
- 17:47grandchildren. So if you know and you know how
- 17:50I feel about that. Babe.
- 17:52I should be a grandfather. I deserve to be a grandfather.
- 17:55So yeah, I just do. It's one of those it's and and
- 17:59if I in looking back, I've also made the I've always said this.
- 18:01If I had known that he was going to be that way, I would have had
- 18:03two, I wouldn't I wouldn't have stopped it.
- 18:07One, I have my stepson Kyron. I mean, yes, I have my stepson
- 18:10Kyron. See, Kyron could have a kid you.
- 18:12Don't know exactly, exactly and, but, but Logan and I, I mean,
- 18:17because I, you know, because I did not have a great
- 18:19relationship with my father or I did not have the relationship I
- 18:23wanted with my father. I looked at Logan as my lineage
- 18:27to, to be like, there's me, Logan and then my grandson that,
- 18:32that lineage. So and that's that's important
- 18:35to me, but it's going to die. So my lineage is I'm dead.
- 18:38So if you don't like Rick Michaels, guess what?
- 18:40I'm dead. You know, there's always,
- 18:42there's always oopses or accidents.
- 18:44I mean, you don't. Know he won't do it he won't do
- 18:47it I'm, you know exactly I try not to interfer in that he yeah,
- 18:51obviously he's taking great care.
- 18:53We talked to he talked about getting a vasectomy and I gave
- 18:55him I you know what, being his dad, I gave him the information.
- 18:58I said, here's what you got to do, because I mean, I had that
- 19:00years ago and and so I mean, I would never again.
- 19:05It's his choice. I'm I'm bummed out about it, but
- 19:08I still believe that while you're here, you can be a good.
- 19:12I mean, thank you, thank you Pearl, you know, thank you Pearl
- 19:15and Russell, thank you mom and dad.
- 19:16You can, you can be more than what you are and you can
- 19:19contribute and you have a voice. And do you want that voice to be
- 19:23of hate or do you want that voice to be of reason and love
- 19:27and, and to your fellow man? And I, I think, I think the sad
- 19:32thing about social media is people talk a lot of shit on
- 19:34social media that they would never say to your face.
- 19:37Definitely. They don't have the courage to
- 19:39say it to your face. And that's and that's and so
- 19:41why? So again, why be like that?
- 19:45Because it makes you feel good as a person.
- 19:47The person putting it out there, they feel good and they're kind
- 19:52of a group now, like you just said.
- 19:54You're a mob mentality. It's a mob.
- 19:56It's a mob mentality. You belong right, to this group
- 20:00or this special thing that is only in the know of this
- 20:03information and now you're part of that group.
- 20:05And so it makes you feel special as a person and part of
- 20:08something which is understandable.
- 20:10That's us as human beings, so. It is and and and again it's
- 20:13like and and. You can't just take it.
- 20:17I mean, I, I was disappointed in a lot.
- 20:20I have a lot of great friends on Facebook and I was disappointed
- 20:24in a lot. And I understand it was the
- 20:25moments and it is, it is a tragedy and it's sad, but I, I
- 20:29saw a lot of hate and I, I and, and, and again, you know, I
- 20:35guess I just need it more defined like, because some
- 20:38people say, you know, Democrats explain it or liberals or I
- 20:41mean, they or whatever. It's like, and I just, I didn't
- 20:45feel like I didn't want to engage in any of those
- 20:47conversations. I just felt like just, yeah, and
- 20:49I've also thought about the last week because of that, that
- 20:52situation, just getting off social media like, but but I'm
- 20:56able to keep in contact with people that that I normally
- 20:59never would keep in contact with.
- 21:02So that's why I love social media.
- 21:04That's why I like social media. There are people that like you
- 21:07said in high school that I never would have been friends with.
- 21:10And now I'm friends with on social media.
- 21:11And like you said, we have more in common, not religiously,
- 21:15politically, but we went to high school together, you know, we
- 21:19know each other different things like that.
- 21:21And I and I love having them. You know, I love being able to
- 21:24communicate with them. And I'm and I'm not a pick up a
- 21:26phone kind of guy, you know, I'm not.
- 21:28Hate it. No you're not.
- 21:29I don't even answer your text messages after.
- 21:31The third one, right, So it's easier for me just to get on
- 21:34social media and hey, happy anniversary, happy birthday.
- 21:37Hey, Congrats on the success, all these different things.
- 21:39It's much more easier for me to do that than me pick up the
- 21:42phone. And so for all the good that I
- 21:44enjoy about social media this last week, I'm like, man, I just
- 21:47want to get off because because of just the.
- 21:51Just detox. Well, yeah, and, and it and it
- 21:54just went. It just flooded, flooded it and
- 21:57on both on both sides. And it's scary.
- 21:59And like you said, it's scary. And I will leave you with a
- 22:02little story. Saturday morning, I was at Yokes
- 22:06and this could have been, this could have been any random
- 22:08person. It just happened to be this kind
- 22:10of person. So this guy, so there's a person
- 22:12in the poor chat. The poor cashier had one.
- 22:14It was 6:30 in the morning. So there's only one cashier
- 22:17working at Yokes. And so there was two people in
- 22:21front of me and there was like a college kid behind me.
- 22:23There was a woman behind him. And then this guy walks up and
- 22:28he's wearing his Trump hat and he's like, oh, I'm here to he
- 22:31goes, I'm here to get a can of Copenhagen.
- 22:33So he gets in line and then he looks at the line.
- 22:36We're all in line. And he goes.
- 22:38He goes, what do you guys think of Charlie Kirk?
- 22:40And, and he saw the college kid who had glasses.
- 22:44He was wearing like, you know, shorts or whatever.
- 22:47And, and he just immediately goes, yeah, I know you don't
- 22:50care, looking at the college kid.
- 22:52So for me, while I was in line, I just turned my back.
- 22:55I went OK, it's 6:30 in the morning.
- 22:57I want to buy some. I want to buy some.
- 22:59Trying to start shit with all the people in the.
- 23:03Line and that is not and I don't want and I do not want to put
- 23:05that as that's that's who that is.
- 23:07I'm just saying, but it made me so instead of confronting the
- 23:10guy, which I wanted to do like man, I'm but but I'm like it's
- 23:136:30 in the morning. I'm just trying to buy some I'm
- 23:15just trying to buy some damn groceries.
- 23:17So I turned my back to him. You know what I'm saying?
- 23:19I mean, in line, because you know how you're facing like
- 23:20that, you know, in line I went like, Nope, not will not will
- 23:25not engage. And so, but I couldn't believe
- 23:28that may and, and maybe even on both sides.
- 23:31It's like, why go out in public? Why?
- 23:33And I felt bad for that cashier because they were, they were in
- 23:36this line. You know, we're all in this
- 23:38line. And the college kid was cool.
- 23:40He was great. He goes, he goes, hey, man, just
- 23:41calm down. He just goes, hey man, calm
- 23:42down. Right.
- 23:43He's just trying to defuse the situation regardless of what
- 23:47what? But that guy made a judgment
- 23:49call on on what the. College.
- 23:51How you looked? How he looked, it wasn't because
- 23:55because, and and even I make it a different call because it
- 23:57looked like a college kid. I could be totally wrong.
- 23:59It could have been homeless. I don't know.
- 24:00But but but he looked like a young, you know, early 20s.
- 24:06He was, he was dressed well and, and it's 6:30 in the morning.
- 24:10So you, you know, and you good looking dude, I guess.
- 24:13But so I just had to turn my back.
- 24:16I'm like, no. And it, and it's one of those
- 24:18things. And I remember, and it was
- 24:19interesting that I've seen it on, I've seen it on both sides
- 24:22cause Megan's uncle is on the other side and he was posting
- 24:27and I saw him say something and somebody underneath goes, Hey,
- 24:29man, can you just put it to a rest?
- 24:30Can you just rest it? So it's like, OK, it's it, it's
- 24:35on. It's on both sides.
- 24:36And so I think that and it makes me wonder about Martin Luther
- 24:40King. We did not live during John F
- 24:42Kennedy. We did not live during Bobby
- 24:43Kennedy or or Martin Malcolm X. We were.
- 24:46I was born. Yeah.
- 24:47Could you imagine? I just, I thought of myself, the
- 24:50hostility. Yeah, because what, There were
- 24:53five set or within what, four years?
- 24:57Five of them were assassinated. Yeah.
- 24:59Can, yeah, can you? But can you be?
- 25:01Wrong on the years, but. Yeah, thinking about that, it's
- 25:03like, yeah, we think that the we think that the tension is, you
- 25:06know, high. Now, I couldn't imagine living
- 25:09in the 60s where that that that existed, right.
- 25:13So I will say it was interesting.
- 25:15I saw Taylor Swift go behind a bulletproof thing.
- 25:17Did you see that at the Chiefs, that you're a big Swifty fan?
- 25:20No, I didn't see that. So what they did was she arrived
- 25:23at the the football game on the weekend and it was almost like,
- 25:26is it is it called a wardrobe gate?
- 25:28What's the big thing you when you get dressed behind this
- 25:30wardrobe thing I. Don't know I you've.
- 25:34Seen it like. Yeah, I've seen it if you're in.
- 25:36The heart video, these dreams, Nancy goes behind it and change
- 25:39his clothes. I I don't know what it's called.
- 25:41It's a wardrobe thing. Well, they had, they had a
- 25:44walking, they, they, they had a walking one.
- 25:48So she was going down the tarmac this walking, this walking
- 25:51wardrobe. Going with her like she was
- 25:54bulletproof. So yeah, so tater's like like
- 25:57this. That's crazy.
- 25:59It's like the Pope Mobile but for a.
- 26:01Tailor. Yeah, but you couldn't see her.
- 26:02It was like she was behind. There so.
- 26:04OK, it was black. It was jet black.
- 26:07And apparently they said it was bulletproof.
- 26:08So, and, and I guess that the stadium was on high, high alert
- 26:13high. Security, I was going to say,
- 26:14there has to be some reason. Or it was interesting.
- 26:17It was, and it was after the Charlie Kirk situation.
- 26:20So again, I do not condone violence in any form from a
- 26:24political, religious standpoint, any of those things.
- 26:27That is not the answer. You are allowed.
- 26:30You are allowed to say and do what you want.
- 26:32This is America, I 100% believe that.
- 26:36That is the First Amendment. So whether you it could be gross
- 26:40hate speech, whatever. I don't like the amendment.
- 26:42I don't like it from either side.
- 26:44I hate all of it. I don't want to be a part of it.
- 26:46And I hate when I get drug into it and I hate when it makes me
- 26:49feel, you know, sick to my stomach that that that's the
- 26:52country we live in. I just didn't realize, didn't
- 26:54realize that we really hate each other that much.
- 26:57I hope we. I hope we don't.
- 26:59Yeah, well, let's hope so. Let's hopefully with our podcast
- 27:02we can make people not hate each other.
- 27:04Be kind to each other, be kind to each other, be kind to each
- 27:08other. There's, I like what you said
- 27:09when we started it. There's common ground.
- 27:11If you, if you just, if people would just have the
- 27:14conversation, I think you, you would discover that.
- 27:17But people, people #1 AII think, I think AI is dangerous.
- 27:22We definitely think, although I do like it for something well.
- 27:25Of course I like, I like, I like the cats and dogs talking to
- 27:28each other on TikTok. I think.
- 27:30I mean, there's a ton of things I love, you know, I mean, I
- 27:34like, I mean, there's a lot of great things that again, it
- 27:36comes down to. There's a lot of great things
- 27:38social media does, but then there's also the, the, the, the
- 27:40lies or the fabrications and, and all, and all these different
- 27:44things too. And that's, that's even from the
- 27:46other side too. I mean, if you've seen it to
- 27:48you, you, you can't just, you know, if from either side.
- 27:52I mean, I almost felt like being an independent going forward.
- 27:55Like, yeah, maybe I'm just an independent.
- 27:56Todd. Todd Lyons.
- 27:57Obviously, I mean, a lot of people do fall into that camp as
- 28:01independents so. Yeah.
- 28:03Oh, yeah. I mean, I mean, because like you
- 28:05said, if you're down the middle, if you're a blue dog like I am
- 28:09down the middle, it's like, yeah, I, I have.
- 28:12But again, I've always voted my conscience.
- 28:17I've always voted, please, going to do a good job, or at least
- 28:19who I think is going to do a good job, right?
- 28:22I've never voted right down like like party lines anyway even
- 28:27though I may be registered as one, I don't always when I get
- 28:30my ballots. In some states, you have to be
- 28:32either or. You have to be registered as
- 28:34Democrat, Republican. You can't be independents.
- 28:36But I but again, I vote, you know, I vote.
- 28:40I vote where I want where I want to.
- 28:42Right. And that's the majority of the
- 28:44people. So hopefully that that you know,
- 28:47won't won't turn you off of the the podcast with my little my
- 28:50little opinion there, It's not. Really a Rick rant.
- 28:53We can't call it a Rick. Rant.
- 28:54It's not a Rick rant you haven't done because.
- 28:56You weren't, like, amped up. Yeah, You weren't like.
- 28:59My wife to this day has never heard of Rick Rant so.
- 29:02She has never. No, she's never heard.
- 29:04No, no, I've never done it in front of her.
- 29:06How is that possible? She she says that that she hears
- 29:11their legendary and people talk about them all the time.
- 29:13And she goes. I've never, I've never heard
- 29:15one. No, she's lucky.
- 29:19I mean, there's still time. There's still time, Megan.
- 29:22There's still time. It's it's comedy, it's comedy
- 29:25goal. If I if I could bottle that and
- 29:27make it a comedy show, I'd make $1,000,000.
- 29:31Gosh, you'd be hoarse by like the 1st 10 minutes because
- 29:34you're just like, OK, well let's move on because I want to, I
- 29:38want to talk about Charlie Sheen.
- 29:40I watched the documentary. Did you watch it?
- 29:42I did not. I've seen some interviews for
- 29:44it. I've seen some interviews for
- 29:45it. OK so this is my opinion and
- 29:50it's going to be biased because as a teenager I loved him and
- 29:54his brother Emilio and Kiefer Sutherland.
- 29:56I had their little pin UPS from the Teen Beat magazine all over
- 30:01my bedroom wall. Yeah, I like Charlie.
- 30:03Sheen yeah, so the so I liked the documentary, although he did
- 30:08seem to be a little bit vague or beat around the Bush maybe is a
- 30:15better description. I don't know.
- 30:18There might be a better way to say that just in how he would
- 30:21talk about things. And it could be because he has a
- 30:24book also coming out, the Book of Sheen, or it's out that's.
- 30:29It by the book that's. Exactly why?
- 30:31I mean, he did address things. I'll give an example and the
- 30:35spoiler alert. So towards the end, the director
- 30:39or whoever it is asking him questions, they clear the room
- 30:43to ask him the the rumor questions or the tough
- 30:47questions. So like the question about Corey
- 30:50Haim, I don't know if you remember that.
- 30:52Oh, I know. I know the story.
- 30:54Well, yes. Right, so they asked him that
- 30:56and then they asked him about if he the rumors about him having
- 31:01sex with men and he so it's almost like he took the long way
- 31:07to answer it. He talks about, you know, you
- 31:09have this menu and you, you know, you eat all everything on
- 31:13this side and then you turn it over and you're like, oh, what's
- 31:16this? And then you order off that
- 31:18side. So that's kind of like how he
- 31:21answered the question. Yes, he did.
- 31:24I mean, he did say yes to some degree to that, but it's like
- 31:28just just answer the question. Just get to it.
- 31:33You know, yes, he has kids that are going to see this and hear
- 31:37this, and it's probably and he mentions it a couple times in
- 31:40the documentary. It's reliving this stuff.
- 31:44The shame that you feel, he. Says he's not that person.
- 31:48I saw an interview when they talked, when they asked about
- 31:50that, the tiger blood of the winning.
- 31:52He even said this interview with CBS when he goes, that's not me.
- 31:55I don't know who that person is, right?
- 31:57You know he goes. I'm going to drug and deuce
- 31:59Haze. Yes, which you you'll have to
- 32:02watch it because how they get him off of drugs.
- 32:06I was shocked. So now you have to go watch it
- 32:09because I'm not going to tell you.
- 32:10So you got to go watch it. So it's great.
- 32:13But one things one of the things that they Charlie did mention in
- 32:17his documentary that made me think of something as a child.
- 32:22So Charlie talks about how he came home when he was a kid and
- 32:26his mom and dad were going through their nudist phase so.
- 32:32Yeah. They were nude.
- 32:35So they were nude like walking around the house.
- 32:39Keep in mind they're in Hollywood.
- 32:41Yeah. This is where he grew up.
- 32:42He grew up with Sean Penn. They show like the childhood
- 32:46videos that they would all make together, and Sean Penn's in it
- 32:49and George Clooney. So yes, they're in Hollywood.
- 32:53So maybe this is more of a Hollywood thing than those of us
- 32:56that lived out in America. But he says that his mom and dad
- 33:00were going through their nudist phase and they were just
- 33:02wandering around the house nude, which reminded me of when I was
- 33:07growing up. So my dad would come home from
- 33:10work and take a shower and then walk around the house naked.
- 33:15He would sit in his recliner. Yes, yes, I'm like, yes, this
- 33:19reminded me of this. He would sit in his recliner
- 33:22like his butt cheeks on there. Everything, everything,
- 33:26everything on the recliner. And I think when I was about, I
- 33:30want to say 7 or 8, my mom finally said something to him,
- 33:36said, you know, you have a daughter, you should probably
- 33:40not walk around the house nude anymore.
- 33:44And so he would just put on like these really short, short cut
- 33:48off Jean shorts that he had like still wasn't like covering a
- 33:52lot. Thankfully he did cover his
- 33:57private bits once I got a little bit older now myself and my
- 34:01husband never walked around nude in front of our kids.
- 34:04I don't know about you. No, no Logan.
- 34:07So I've never outside of outside of Logan after he was a toddler,
- 34:12I never saw Logan's junk. I never saw.
- 34:14I never saw my foster dad's junk.
- 34:16I never saw my real dad's junk. I didn't walk around nude in
- 34:19front of. I am not that guy.
- 34:21I will say, though, what's interesting is I have some good
- 34:24friends and they'd come, come, come down camping from Seattle
- 34:29and they had three daughters. Great.
- 34:31They're a great family. They come down to the Bogan's
- 34:33Oasis and they had a little camper.
- 34:35And, and I remember, I want to say the first time I ever saw,
- 34:39ever saw a grown man's, you know, is he came out of the
- 34:43shower. It was in a camper, right?
- 34:45It was in a camper. And his daughters were a varying
- 34:48age at the time. They're probably like what 8,
- 34:5097, whatever they're they're all close in age right, never him
- 34:54coming out buck naked and I went what you know now he didn't
- 34:59didn't do anything. He just went and got dressed.
- 35:01But that was the first time I went whoa, hello, hello.
- 35:04But it was. Like no big deal to him, he was
- 35:05just. Like no, no big deal.
- 35:06And the girls and the yeah, and the girls didn't didn't react at
- 35:11all. So so.
- 35:11He probably did all the time. What's that?
- 35:14He probably did it all the time for.
- 35:16Them and, and for me, I've, you know, I've, I've, I've always
- 35:22said if I, if I was packing 12 inches, I'd walk around naked
- 35:26all day long. But, but that is not the case.
- 35:28So to me, I'm more modest about it.
- 35:30I have heard nudists talk about how freeing it is, literally and
- 35:35figuratively. So they talk about obviously not
- 35:39having to wear clothes. That freedom, but the freedom of
- 35:43not feeling the shame when they don't wear their clothes, just
- 35:48being completely naked and not give a shit, basically, that
- 35:54they are just nude. Obviously they're in a nudist
- 35:56colony, they're not wandering around the grocery store nude.
- 35:59But. Yeah, but, you know, but you're
- 36:00going to be sadly disappointed because, you know, Logan and I
- 36:03should joke about that a lot, you know, when he was younger.
- 36:06Oh, I want to see Nick, you know, want to go to new, you
- 36:08know, nudist beach where I'm like, dude, you're going to be
- 36:11sadly disappointed. It's going to be a bunch of 75
- 36:13year olds out there. Right.
- 36:15I mean, in Europe they have topless beaches.
- 36:17Nudity isn't, of course, such a big deal in.
- 36:19Europe now maybe in France and Europe and all that, you're
- 36:22going to find the more toned bodies, but usually in the
- 36:25United States it's going to be, it's going to be Uncle Fred.
- 36:30Right. Yeah, so so.
- 36:32That's prudishness. But that is that I get.
- 36:36Yeah, that's now. Do you recall?
- 36:39I remember, oh, it's not like once, once that memory came back
- 36:45to me, I was like, oh, because I would OK, OK, keep in mind my
- 36:50dad was probably, I want to say he was 511, maybe taller, might
- 36:56have been taller. And if I was 7-8, so I would
- 37:01have been right, you know, like eye level.
- 37:04He was like standing there. And so I remember distinctly,
- 37:09it's just like standing there when he would come out of the
- 37:14shower and just having that his, his jug right in my face when
- 37:20I'm like 7-8. I mean, obviously I, I don't, I
- 37:24don't remember really thinking about it or understanding what
- 37:29was happening. And so it was a, it wasn't a big
- 37:33deal at the time for me. Looking back on it now I'm going
- 37:37Oh my God it was like eye level staring at me.
- 37:40But one thing I one thing I hated about the Wallaces to this
- 37:44day, to this day is when we were 1213 years old, let's say they
- 37:50were watching, you know, a movie.
- 37:52Let's say they're watching Porky's or whatever.
- 37:54And if there was nudity, they'd always make us cover our eyes.
- 37:58Oh. As a kid, I thought that's I
- 38:00mean looking I like that's ridiculous great.
- 38:03And so I just it's like I'm already a modest person.
- 38:07It's like I wouldn't you know, I but but for Logan, when Logan
- 38:10was a was a teenager or an early teen.
- 38:13Not that I would let him go watch a movie like Porky's, but
- 38:16but if there was a. Scene of nothing.
- 38:18I didn't just go close. Shut your, you know, shut your
- 38:20eyes. I always, I just never
- 38:23understood that. And I know that there are some
- 38:25people that are like that, like, hey, cover your eyes.
- 38:27Cover your eyes. I'm like, they're boobs.
- 38:30Right. They're, they're boobs, you
- 38:31know, and so or what or whatever, you're whatever you're
- 38:34watching and then and then you're like, well, why are we
- 38:36watching this? And if it's not appropriate.
- 38:38Anyway, right, that's what I was going to say.
- 38:39Why were you, why were you guys even watching it then?
- 38:42I mean, my kids would not be watching something like that.
- 38:44What was he? OK, so the 80s.
- 38:47But remember the 80s? So you had shows like What
- 38:50Meatballs, which or, or was it Animal House?
- 38:54I mean, it was those quick flashes of, you know, it wasn't
- 38:58like, yeah, it wasn't like, you know.
- 39:01Just nudity, nudity, nudity. Staring right at.
- 39:03You right, right you watched Remember, Remember airplane, the
- 39:07movie airplane where the plane's going down and there's that
- 39:09quick flash of these, you know so they knew that Wallace's new
- 39:14one that was going all right, get ready to cover your eyes,
- 39:16you know, and that quick. I'm like, it's boobs, man, it's
- 39:19boobs but but so I never did that to my kid.
- 39:22I didn't. I never wanted to and and job.
- 39:25To make just male and female body parts and anatomy a
- 39:30shameful thing for my kids. I mean, again, we didn't walk
- 39:33around nude, but at the same time it wasn't this.
- 39:37Oh, we can't talk about it or it's not a real thing or you,
- 39:41you know, we need to discuss the birds and the bees and those
- 39:45types of things with them. So it wasn't some secretive.
- 39:50I, I think it, I think there's, I think there's a healthy way to
- 39:52look at it because one of my favorite stories is Beverly
- 39:55Hills Cop with my, with my foster mom.
- 40:00We had gone was what? So I was already living with, I
- 40:02was already living with the Wallaces.
- 40:03I was living with the Wallaces, but I still saw Pearl.
- 40:06Through the years, so it wasn't like I just did not see her.
- 40:09So we went to see Beverly Hills Cop and we start the movie.
- 40:12It's Eddie Murphy movie. It's 1984.
- 40:15Right out of the the first few words, Eddie Murphy's already F
- 40:17word. And so mom Pearl, she's like,
- 40:21mom goes, She goes, yeah, she goes, Virgil, I'm going to go
- 40:25shopping. You enjoy your movie.
- 40:27So she got up and left here. I'm at the Liberty Theater in
- 40:29downtown Lewiston and I'm 1312, thirteen years old at an R rated
- 40:34movie. I'm like, I'm like store.
- 40:37And so Eddie Murphy, of course, the F word all the way through
- 40:39it. They went to the strip club.
- 40:40You know where there's naked girls dancing all over.
- 40:42It's Eddie Murphy, right? So anyway, that's how my mom, my
- 40:46mom never my foster mom was not. I mean, she just taught me.
- 40:50She taught me right or wrong. She didn't, but it was what it
- 40:53was never one. It was never any shame or I just
- 40:57never had any of those situations to where that she
- 41:00ever made me, you know, feel bad for anything, I guess.
- 41:04Right. She would always explain
- 41:06something like the birds and the bees.
- 41:07I don't think I ever asked her about the birds and bees, but if
- 41:10she if I did, she would just explain it.
- 41:12She was never. She was never one of those
- 41:14people. Yeah.
- 41:14Yeah, she would have sat down and had the conversation with
- 41:17you and not made it some shameful thing that.
- 41:20You better not see that person's Hoo ha, you know, or different
- 41:23things like you know and trust. Trust me, it's I was a horny
- 41:26little kids. I will not allow.
- 41:29I will not elaborate, but it's one of those things where it's
- 41:33like, you know, I played enough doctor in my time.
- 41:35I was going to say, I think we've touched on the neighbor
- 41:37girl. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 41:41We've touched on that in a past podcast, Go back and I don't
- 41:44remember which one at this. Point probably I would not want
- 41:47to now. I guess I'm getting beat, Red
- 41:48not not that I would ever want to talk about those experiences,
- 41:52you know, with my foster mom or any of that.
- 41:54She never knew. She didn't know so.
- 41:56I'm sure she I'm she was a parent.
- 42:00She probably, who knows? She probably knew to some degree
- 42:03we as a mom. Maybe, but yeah, to some.
- 42:05Degree but. I think, I mean, I think that's
- 42:08a little, I mean, as little kids, that's the curiosity of
- 42:10it. All right.
- 42:11And like you said, at least maybe maybe that's the, you
- 42:14know, with your dad or my, my buddy that came out of the
- 42:17shower, maybe maybe that's why their kids were like, yeah.
- 42:20Yeah, no big deal. They saw it all the time.
- 42:22Was it right, Right. Something abnormal or you know,
- 42:27it's shocking me to see a penis. So you're recommending the
- 42:30Charlie Sheen documentary? I mean, I liked it, but again,
- 42:35I'm biased so I wouldn't go off in my opinion at this stage of
- 42:39the game so. Yeah, I liked.
- 42:40Well, I like the whole family. I like Martin Sheen.
- 42:42I like Emilio Estevez. I.
- 42:44Mean they're not in. They chose not to be in the
- 42:46documentary. I know that which I think we
- 42:47talked about that last podcast, but Denise is in it, his
- 42:52ex-wife, one of his daughters, Sammy Jon Cryer is in it.
- 42:59Chuck Lorre, is that who? Yep, that's the one he had the
- 43:02fight with. That was the big.
- 43:03That was the big fight. For 2 1/2 men, yeah.
- 43:05Yeah. So they go through that whole
- 43:07story and what happened. So it's interesting to hear all
- 43:10of it. What really went down because we
- 43:12were only getting bits and pieces out of media.
- 43:15Was it really true? Most of it.
- 43:16Yeah, but when you're coked out of your mind and then and and
- 43:19you're the highest paid sitcom, I mean, can you submit?
- 43:22I mean the money, just the just the insanity you and I could
- 43:26never fathom. No.
- 43:28And he talks about how why didn't someone stopped me on one
- 43:33hand and then he's like, but look at who I was and the money
- 43:37I had. No one was going to tell me,
- 43:40right? No one was going to tell me.
- 43:41Otherwise, and I've said that a billion times about the Michael
- 43:44Jackson situation with Alisa Marie Presley because they
- 43:47interviewed her and she said I absolutely loved Michael
- 43:50Jackson. Stop saying that was fake.
- 43:52I loved him. And then she also said, you
- 43:55don't understand his level of wealth and how people treat him.
- 44:00We saw that with the the guy from friends, sadly, who passed
- 44:04away from the drug overdue was that.
- 44:08Yeah. Matthew Perry.
- 44:10It's like when you have wealth beyond your wildest means, no
- 44:14one's going to tell you no. Great.
- 44:17You know, especially if they're making money off you, they're
- 44:19definitely not going to tell you no.
- 44:21Right. And, and she said, and she said
- 44:23that with Michael Jackson, Lisa Marie said with Michael Jackson,
- 44:25it was like it didn't matter. It's like no one was going to
- 44:29tell Mike. And, and when you're that big,
- 44:31you're in a bubble. You are in a bubble.
- 44:34Did did Charlie talk about that? You're in a bubble.
- 44:36You are not. Yeah, he, yeah, I mean, he
- 44:38touches on his circle, which one of his lifelong friends is in
- 44:43it. So yeah, it's all discussed in
- 44:46the documentary. But you and I, you and I have
- 44:48no, we just have no concept of that.
- 44:51Right. Maybe someday, Maybe, Maybe
- 44:53someday, we'll get there. Never for this guy.
- 44:56I'm a DJ. Never.
- 45:00It's either that or we'll keep each other humble.
- 45:02I'll just like smack you upside the head.
- 45:04Yeah. All right.
- 45:08We we have been talking a whole bunch, but so there's was a
- 45:13couple other things I wanted to talk about, but we're only going
- 45:15to be able to talk about one of them.
- 45:18Which one do? You want to go on.
- 45:20Let's talk about the bride. I want to talk about the bride.
- 45:23OK, so there is this bride who wants to disinvite her friend to
- 45:30her wedding. So to the bride's wedding
- 45:32because she found out that she's not invited to her friend's
- 45:37wedding. Now they're close friends, or so
- 45:41the bride thought that they were close friends.
- 45:45Obviously her feelings are hurt. Now this is not a small wedding
- 45:49either, which the bride says the bread that's upset with her
- 45:53friend for not being invited. She says that I would have
- 45:57understood if it was a small intimate wedding that I would
- 45:59not have been invited. But both of their weddings are
- 46:02like 100 plus people. So we're not talking small
- 46:05weddings that you have a small amount of people that can come.
- 46:11So this bride is upset and she is asking if she should
- 46:17disinvite her friend now that she's already invited her
- 46:21friend, but her friend is not inviting her to the wedding.
- 46:24So that is the question she's been asking.
- 46:27I think it's on credit or somewhere.
- 46:29One's not a bridesmaid or anything like that.
- 46:31No, neither one are in the weddings.
- 46:33They're just she thought they were close friends and maybe
- 46:37it's a little bit more 1 sided than the other friend and so.
- 46:43She's on the side. Maybe that person won't even
- 46:45show up or or did they RSVP? Did they RSVP?
- 46:49I don't think she mentioned or I didn't see that whether or not
- 46:54she RSVP it might she might have.
- 46:56I don't I don't know. I.
- 46:57I think, I think, you know, if you want me to jump in on this,
- 47:00I think that. As the.
- 47:02Guy how I was raised. If I invited you, then I that
- 47:07that invitation would stand. And then if you didn't want to
- 47:10invite me, I'd be very hurt and fuck you down the road because
- 47:16because my second favorite movie of all time is Roadhouse with
- 47:20Patrick Swayze. So we've got Dead Poets Society
- 47:22where it's like carpet DMCS today.
- 47:24Love you, love you. And then we got Patrick Swayze.
- 47:27Like my way or the highway? There is.
- 47:29What do you know my favorite movies?
- 47:31What's that? Labyrinth.
- 47:34Yeah, of course. Well, how?
- 47:36Of course you're in that era, of course.
- 47:37I was like 10 or yeah that that's I fell in love with David
- 47:42Bowie and that's probably where my love of bad boys came from,
- 47:45I'm sure. Yes, Labyrinth and then Forrest
- 47:49Gump is my second favorite. So could you?
- 47:51Not love. Yeah, Jenny.
- 47:52So. Yeah, So.
- 47:54So I if I invite somebody, hey, that, that that's the invite.
- 47:58I won't, I won't disinvite you unless something drastically
- 48:01happened in that relationship. I'd be very hurt.
- 48:03I wouldn't understand why, why I would not why I was not invited
- 48:07to the other one. And then I and then going
- 48:08forward, then I would be really gun shy.
- 48:12Right, which it? That's OK if that's the way it's
- 48:14going to be. I'm, I'm, you know, maybe we're
- 48:15not as good as friends as I thought.
- 48:17Yes, which this isn't wedding related but when my kids were
- 48:22growing up I had to set boundaries for myself because my
- 48:27family would attend other family members kids's stuff like mainly
- 48:32birthdays, you know, whatever it was and then those family
- 48:36members would not show up for my kids.
- 48:38And I understand after missing a few events, people have
- 48:42conflicts and other things going on.
- 48:45So this is multiple times that they would miss coming to my
- 48:49kids events. And so I finally stopped going
- 48:52to their events. I would, I don't send birthday
- 48:56cards. I do if it's graduation or
- 48:59something like that, then I'll send a graduation card.
- 49:01But I don't go to their kids stuff anymore because I could be
- 49:07doing something with my kids. And if you're not going to show
- 49:10up for my children, then I'm not willing to show up for yours.
- 49:14So, well, I think, does that make me sound like an ask?
- 49:16But. I think it, I think it hurts.
- 49:19I think that I mean, yes, at the end of the day and especially
- 49:22for for people like us, you know, coming from broken homes,
- 49:27we're. Always trying to people please
- 49:29or be there for people or be the be the one doing doing for
- 49:33other. People and you act all tough,
- 49:34but that's not the reality. It's very easy.
- 49:36I've always, I've always said it's when someone comes to a
- 49:39broken home, they may act all tough, but it's very easy to
- 49:41just go, you know what I'm saying and and hurt.
- 49:44Then let me not say it to your face, right?
- 49:46Let me not say it to your face, but it's it's really.
- 49:48Super. Super easy to hurt them, you
- 49:50know, I've always. Yeah, I feel like we're we're
- 49:53very independent and like I'm very independent and being able
- 49:57to do things for myself or or that sort of thing.
- 50:00But like you said, if it's something that hurts our
- 50:03feelings or we take personal, then it hurts.
- 50:06Yeah, so. So there's a different.
- 50:08Yeah, for like, like I can go to a movie by myself.
- 50:11I can go to a restaurant by myself.
- 50:12These things, don't I? I always look, I always look at
- 50:16it like if I show up, man, you are special.
- 50:20For you, yes. Yeah, coming from the guy who
- 50:23did not. I attend my wedding.
- 50:27No, so, so that was funny that and I think John and I think
- 50:29even John Riggs brought it up one time too.
- 50:31It's like and and I looking back, I'm like, man, and I want
- 50:34you to say I regret that. I regret that I've I want you to
- 50:37know I've done a lot better and. I just like teasing you about
- 50:40it. No, but I have done a lot but.
- 50:42It did kind of hurt my feelings at the time, I do have to say,
- 50:44like at the time it did. No, and, and, and I have tried
- 50:51in my older years that and people trust me when I show up,
- 50:56they lose their crap because they do not like when they say,
- 50:59oh, I'll try to make it. And then I just know I don't go.
- 51:01And then when I do show up, people like what the he came.
- 51:05I did that for my I did that for my niece Mariah.
- 51:07She was having her graduation party in Lewiston.
- 51:10So Megan and I went over, you know, and that shocked the crap
- 51:13out of my family because they were like, what the showing up.
- 51:17So, and that does not mean I'm special by any means.
- 51:19It's just, it's just a rarity. We've talked about that, how you
- 51:25don't like to go on a fast podcast, how you don't like to
- 51:27go to things or us trying to get you to go to things.
- 51:31You complain about it leading up to set event and then once you
- 51:36get there, you go, oh, this, this was fun.
- 51:38Had a great time. It's good, yeah.
- 51:40I mean, I'm perfectly capable of having conversations.
- 51:42That's. Yeah.
- 51:43So yeah, you. Turn it on.
- 51:45When you walk into that room, you were like.
- 51:47I can of course, of course, but but then I'm like, oh, it's so
- 51:50exhaustive, so exhaustive that he got it that he got to be on.
- 51:54So to me, I'm like, so the so for me, invitation stands set.
- 51:58I'm and I'm sad for the lady because it's like that friend is
- 52:01obviously not as good of a friend as you thought.
- 52:04Now do you confront them? I was going to say I would
- 52:08probably oh, OK, I would not confront them.
- 52:13I would sit down and have a conversation with that my my
- 52:17friend or who I thought was my friend and say, hey, look, I'm
- 52:21just curious why? Because there may be a valid
- 52:25reason why she didn't get invited like this other her
- 52:28friend could have such a big family or you don't know what
- 52:33other people have going on. And so you probably should sit
- 52:35down and have a conversation, conversation with her adult to
- 52:38adult and say, hey, is is there some reason I didn't get
- 52:43invited? Why did I not make the cut?
- 52:45Yeah, However you want to say it and find out exactly why.
- 52:49And then based off of maybe what she says the reason is, then you
- 52:53can kind of gauge, OK, going forward, this is how our
- 52:57friendship is going to look. Or I need to set boundaries for
- 53:00our friendship. You know, whatever you need to
- 53:03do for yourself, that's what you need to do.
- 53:05Yep, and as my mom would have said, the invite stand, you
- 53:09invited them and then then you know you invite them as a guest
- 53:13so you are obligated. Right, you can't read any.
- 53:16But going forward after that, then that, that changes
- 53:20everything. It's like, yeah, then.
- 53:21But I would again if it just depends on how good of a first
- 53:24friend they are so. It she says that they're close
- 53:27friend. Now I don't know what you we all
- 53:29have different definitions of what close friends.
- 53:33Are. Yeah, I don't.
- 53:34What our definition of that is, it could be different from what
- 53:39you and I think. Yes, I will say this as as
- 53:43antisocial as I can be, if if I know someone's really counting
- 53:47on me, I'll be there. Because once I say I'm going to
- 53:50be there, I'm going to be there. Yes, you know that.
- 53:53Michelle, yes, that is going to be there.
- 53:56Yeah, that is the truth. And that that that's never been,
- 53:58that's never been a shocker to people because if I say I'm
- 54:00going to be there, I, I will show up when I say I'm going to
- 54:04be somewhere, I'll be there. So, yeah.
- 54:06So I definitely, I'd get to the bottom of it.
- 54:09But right now I, Yep. Honor the invitation.
- 54:12OK, well, you know what? That's that's a lot.
- 54:15That's a. Lot.
- 54:15Was that a lot? Was that?
- 54:17Was that a lot? I'm you know, I, I think, you
- 54:20know, I don't know if we needed to dwell that much into some of
- 54:23the politics. I apologize.
- 54:25You know, we love we love having people listen and, and again, I
- 54:29think it I would. Love, is this your disclaimer?
- 54:31Now it is a. Disclaimer, I think that's this
- 54:33is a good place for common ground.
- 54:34I think that's common ground and and I think we can coexist.
- 54:39I don't, I don't think it's as I, I hope it's not, I hope it's
- 54:44not as bad as I think it is in terms of I I would like to think
- 54:48it's not as bad as we see on social media.
- 54:51It immediately that's not a reflection.
- 54:53The temperature, yeah. At the time and hopefully
- 54:58because everybody's upset and things are well, just crazy
- 55:02right now that maybe they are in the temperature of everything,
- 55:05so. Yeah, and, and again, it's one
- 55:07of those, it's one of those things where I, but I guess I, I
- 55:10just don't actively try to engage.
- 55:11If you have different political views, which is fine.
- 55:13You're allowed to have those things.
- 55:15I don't try to act. And I never understood the
- 55:18people trying to convince somebody else like they believe
- 55:22what they believe. So why is it why it's it's
- 55:25almost like, it's almost like when someone knocks on my door
- 55:28and they said, let me, can I talk to you about God?
- 55:31And I'm like, no, not interested.
- 55:33And then they go, but wait. But wait, no, I already said
- 55:36very politely, I'm not interested.
- 55:38So why? What is that human need to make
- 55:42people think the same as somebody else?
- 55:45The religious aspect is they're saving you though.
- 55:48That's the religious aspect of it.
- 55:50And maybe. I already know where I go.
